This video was recorded in St. Isaac’s Cathedral during a concert dedicated to the Russian Army Day on February 23rd, the Saint-Petersburg choir performed a song about the nuclear bombing of the US. The performance received standing ovations. However, the lyrics of the song in question absolutely infuriated the Russian liberals and their western patrons in spite of the fact that this song was written in 1980s by a singer-songwriter Andrei Kozlovsky …as a joke!
Here is the song itself:
and here is the translation of the lyrics into English: (courtesy of Scott – thanks brother!)
On a little submarine with a little nuclear engine,
And with a dozen bombs under a hundred megatons,
We crossed the Atlantic and I call on my gunner: “Point,” I say, “Petrov, at the city of Washington!”
Tra-La-La, tra-La-La,
We can do anything for three rubles!
Greetings, the New Land of the Enemy!
On the airplane above, my friend Vovochka
Not with empty hatches came for a visit.
On a little submarine with a little nuclear engine,
Our crew cheerfully sings a song.
TRU-La-La, tra-La-La,
We can do anything for three rubles!
You burn, burn the Enemy’s land!
Sweetly sleeping shore lights in Norfolk, toys are sleeping, and Negros are sleeping quietly,
You forgive us, America, good America,
But five hundred years ago you were discovered for no-good,
Tra-La-La, tra-La-La,
We can do anything for three ruble!
In half is burning the land. Unfriendly land.
That’s would be like American liberals getting angry at Weird Al Yankovic for his parody songs!
These days the Amerkanski can’t even take black humor anymore that is if it’s not on anyone else’s behalf.
That song was a joke.

Tom Lehrer, comic pianist and songster. “We’ll all go together when we go.”
And here is one of my all time favorites by the Kingston Trio. Both Lehrer and the Kingston trio played during a time when the US was a bit crazy…well…when wasn’t it. For those Trump lovers, don’t take the overlay of Trump too personally. Whoever mixed the original song, sung in 1959, even before JFK, may have a fixation but the lyrics are timeless.

Nice performance.
Time ago Sting put out a song called Russians. It is single sided to have desired impact on masses. It portrait west as a victim rather than aggressor it doesn’t take in account historical factors such “operation unthinkable” where immediately after WWII Western Allies were to attack Soviets.

Music and cinema and TV are very powerful tools to form people’s mind. Much of the west is educated via those.

Glad to see someone else remembering Tom Lehrer –actually, he later wrote a classic Tom Lehrer World War III song (if we’re going to have any, he noted, “we’d better start writing them now”) titled “So Long, Mom”. I’ll see if I can find a link.
(Oh — and I believe the “Merry Minuet” was originated by Charlotte Rae. Maybe I can find a link to that too, and/or some credits for words and music.)
Okay, here’s that other Tom Lehrer song:

Okay, Charlotte Rae sang the “Merry Minuet” earlier in the 1950s than the Kingston Trio — but according to this page:

the originator of the song (written for a late-1940s revue by Sheldon Harnick, whom you might know from a slightly larger show called “Fiddler on the Roof”) was actually Orson Bean.

While Russia is singing , American and Russian liberals prefer bomb countries all over the world.
Let sound songs instead of bombs !
