“We would like to note the inadmissibility of such comments made by any side involved in the investigation, because it does not contribute to a calm, unbiased and professional work to establish the cause of the air disaster,” Storchevoi stressed.
The Dutch Safety Board (DSB) in charge of the investigation was initially to unveil its findings on August 1, according to the UK’s Independent newspaper.
The British daily claimed Dutch officials had been stunned by Lysenko’s “premature” disclosure during a press conference, although they did not confirm the theory. It said further that Ukraine’s source is now under scrutiny after the board said it hadn’t shared any information with Kiev.
“I can’t make a comment on what source Mr. Lysenko has… We don’t want to confirm or say anything about the information on the black boxes right now; this in the best interest of the investigation itself,” The Independent cited DSB spokeswoman Sara Vernooij as saying Monday…”

There seems to be an effort to shell and/or seize the most important piece of real estate in Ukraine, the MA17 crash site. Unwisely, the NR leaders gave up the blackbodies, instead of demanding that the investigation be organized in a warehouse in Donetsk.
NATO now has the pilots’ tapes, the control-tower tapes, and all they need is to destroy the crash site. Once their own incriminating evidence is cancelled, incriminating evidence against Novorossiya is needed.

A couple of minor observations from Russia: I’ve just returned from a 10-day group tour of Moscow, Suzdal, St. Petersburg, plus two days beforehand visiting a friend in Moscow. I was the only person in our group that knew Russian well enough to carry on a conversation. In Suzdal, after I’d explained to the tour guide, the local Suzdal guide, and the driver where I learned Russian (U.S. Army), and when (pre-Vietnam), they asked me together if the current situation was like the “1962 [Cuban missile] crisis”. I said it wasn’t, at least I hoped not. I hadn’t paid much attention to the airline shoot-down, which had taken place a couple days before, not watching TV much, but they were clearly troubled by the situation.
Then this Sunday, when leaving St. Petersburg on the way to the airport, our tour guide at that end and the driver asked me what a White House spokesman, whose name they thought was “Mr. Ellis” or “Mr. Ernest”, they weren’t sure which, meant when he warned Mr. Putin “would be held personally responsible for the current situation.” Different people, but again clearly troubled by the situation. I said I hadn’t heard the statement, didn’t know who the person was or what to make of it, and hoped it was nothing worse than political posturing, the norm in Washington. [In reality, I was appalled. It sounded like a direct threat to a head of state, almost a declaration of war. In chess you never attack your opponent’s king.]
PS: Russia itself was glorious, my first trip. Marvelous weather, in the 20’s C, 80’s F. New buildings and re-building everywhere. Smooth, quiet Sapsan high-speed train between the two capitals at 240 KM/hr. And most spectacularly, an incredible large number of very-well-dressed, strikingly-attractive women everywhere in their light summer attire, like being in Paris. (Think Maria Sharapova by the millions.) When I got back, our American women looked drab in comparison. (I’m sure Nora of this blog is an exception.)

U.S./NATO preparations for war against Russia are evident. We’ve been doing our best to buy American for a long time now just on principle so I’m not going to argue with doing so, just with its effectiveness at stopping what sure looks like a rush to war. I agree our electoral choices currently suck BUT the current batch still need the votes and that does in fact mean leverage right now at least on that one issue, even if they’re utterly worthless on anything else. Also, the American working class supported Reagan when he broke the Air Traffic Controllers Union, thus biting the hand that had not just fed them but lifted them into the middle class; then Clinton finished them — and us — off with NAFTA. I’ve been asking for years how you could have a country that didn’t make anything and now we know the answer, right? You can’t. But don’t think whatever money we have to spend at this point in time is going to even be noticed by anyone in DC.
