A few notes… :
Here is testimony from rescued civilians held by Ukrainian nationalists at Azovstal plant, released by the Russian Mod: The video contains an English soundtrack. https://t.me/mod_russia_en/1293
“…I got the impression that nobody needs us. No one came to our plant, neither the military, nor civilians, nor plant managers. We provided for ourselves when we were in blockade…”
The Dollar has just fallen below 67 rubles. This is widely reported, and for those that missed it:
🇷🇺🇺🇸⚡️Volodin stated that up to $500 billion worth of Western assets were blocked on the territory of the Russian Federation, which counterbalances the $300 billion of Russian reserves blocked in the West.
In the event of the confiscation of the property of Russian oligarchs in the West, Russia will begin to confiscate the property of Western businesses in Russia.
and
🇷🇺🇨🇳⚡️The volume of gas supplies by Gazprom to China since the beginning of 2022 has increased by 60% compared to the same period in 2021. At the same time, there is an obvious tendency to increase such deliveries – it is expected that in the short term, the total volume of deliveries will increase by another 20-30%.
Is this a real war or kabuki theater? Why is the west ukie power grid still up and functional? Why are the Rooskies supplying electricity to baltic state power grids? No modern society functions in the dark….no lights, no communications, no internet, no free porn.
Agreed. Maybe Russia is positioning herself as the “Good Guys”, still hoping for a negotiated settlement instead of outright conquest.
(e.g Zaporizhzhia captured by Russia and still supplying the grid https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zaporizhzhia_Nuclear_Power_Plant)
Contrast with the 1999 NATO bombing of Yugoslavia “The NATO air forces also targeted infrastructure, such as power plants (using the BLU-114/B “Soft-Bomb”), water-processing plants and the state-owned broadcaster, causing much environmental and economic damage throughout Yugoslavia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NATO_bombing_of_Yugoslavia“
May be. But what Russia has been doing, by keeping Ukrainian population living a less disrupted life, is to signal to the world that Russia and allies can still win and are winning, despite all your dirty tricks and cruel strategies. Russia takes care of normal people, US/EU only prioritized narcissistic US interests (Rumsfeld: We don’t do civilians.”
I am sorry, but I disagree. It is beyond dispute that this soft approach has cost Russian solders lives. To me, their lives are more important than any Ukrainian Civilian or Solder.
I dispute your take on the soft approach. I also dispute your claim that Russian soldiers lives are more important than Russian/Ukrainian Civilians. The defense and liberation of Russian/Ukrainian civilians is one of the stated purposes of the SMO.
I am also really sad about that losses of Russian military. But they are professionals doing there job.
Ukrainian civilians are innocent and disarmed people…
Russia is not intentionally targeting civilians, only Ukro-nazi;s do that, and murder their own in False flags to blame on Russia. Just look at the way Ukraine treat Russian prisoners, compared to how Russia treat ukraine prisoners.
Not a good evaluation.
Many civilians are partners with the military, from basic physical research, engineering, software, transport, procurement, finance etc.
Complex systems require an entire supply chain. Any missing person might be indispensible and the entire system, whatever it might be then becomes useless until replaced. Think of the recent COVID lockdowns and their effects on the economy.
It is hard to replace certain individuals. Their actual contributions will not be publicized. The current hypersonic missiles everyone is awed by had to have considerable civilian input.
Good, reliable people, who share your values and ethics are far more valuable than a lot of material things. The soldier in the field has at least nine others behind him, managing the various other needs. A cohesive society cares about everyone and needs to value each and every one of them accordingly.
News in Euronews (in Portuguese) Human Rights watch “found” evidence of crimes committed by the Russian army. Well, HRW is committed to FAKE evidence against Russian troops – and they are very good at it. We know who controls the HRW – the good old CIA. Well, let the Russians not expect to be recognized as “good guys” in this story.
Bomb now what you have to bomb. This is a war, not a picnic.
To judge from the news I get in Japan, which is strictly NATO’s point of view, it would seem the heroic Ukrainians are keeping Zaporizhzhia up and running. They don’t say that outright, but yesterday they were talking about sending a force from Kiev to Zaporizhzhia, from whence they were going to help all the poor civilians trapped in Azovstal.
Whatever commendable things Russia does do not get reported in western countries. But Russia is not playing to please the West anymore. The important thing is what Russia’s closest neighbors are thinking, especially the people remaining in Ukraine. When the dust finally settles, that’s what is going to matter.
Completely agree here. I’m baffled as to what the Russians are doing. They could bomb the entire country into submission and they don’t. There were more bombing sorties by the US in one week of the Kosovo campaign then there has been for 2+ months of the Russian campaign. We all know the west is full of propaganda but they are flooding Ukraine with weapons and Russia needs to understand now this is an all out war against NATO and the US. They should be pushing their proxies around the world (Syria, Iran, etc.) to start stirring up trouble for the West in other places. There should literally be no electricity, internet anything in any part of Ukraine. They should be bombing every single vehicle that comes across the border into Ukraine. Completely shutoff oil/gas to everyone except China/India. The west wants Russia crushed and it’s almost like they don’t realize this.
You are to eager to destroy. Relax. Go do some farm chores or dig a hole. Russia does not want a broken Ukraine. Or adversarial Ukrainians. Most will be much happier when the Nazis are driven off. It is a hearts and minds action.
I agree in general, but there is a simple problem: not easy to do. Would I love to see Russia kick out US forces out of Syria? Oh yes. And more.
But we should have learnt that nuklear power plants without external power supply could be a problem. When the cooling does no work, it explodes.
Also please do not cheer up punishment of ordinary people. I can understand it, I really want Russia to win and the West to lose. But it would be not a win for us if the west supremacy is just replaced by an eastern one.
Russia is still exporting Uranium to the US and Europe. This is necessary to operate the Nuclear Plants. Unlike Oil and Gas there are no substitutes for this anywhere.
They steal $300 Billion from us wage both economic and proxy war on us. We reward them by sending them everything they need to continue that assault.
Esse seu ponto de vista é para mim muito restrito…carece de agregar uma visão de conjunto e de longo prazo.
Translation. Mod:
That point of view of you is very narrow to me… lacks to add an overview and long-term vision.
Kazakhstan is the world’s largest producer of uranium, by far. I’m not sure about Russian exports to the US, but I do know that the nuke plant where I used to live (Duke Energy Catawba plant) in South Carolina, used to burn Russian MoX fuel.I wonder if this would reveal the Russian plutonium signature to the West, and give them the ability to foment a Russian nuke false flag.
And you can bet the very same cooling water supply and backup pump system that were in place before the Russians took over plant management are still in service. One Chernobyl is too many.
After the military phase is over, the population’s loyalty is the prize, and if the Russians, through it all, view the
Ukrainians as separated brethren, the man in the street, in Odessa, and Mariupol, even Kiev, can’t be hidden
by western propaganda, even in their own media space. First hand accounts will tally and the world will come to
an opinion about who is the aggrieved party. Ignored facts will have time to be reconsidered without the fever emotions of war clouding judgement.
Like the Patrick Lancaster coverage of DPR,LPR.
“Of course, Western historians ignore superbly that Crimea was separated from Ukraine by referendum in January 1990, six months before Ukrainian independence and under Soviet rule. In fact, it’s Ukraine that illegally annexed Crimea in 1995. Yet, western countries sanctioned Russia for that…” Only after the Madian color revolution coup in 2014 did Russia move in Crimea.
The Terrible behavior of the Azov battalion against civilians will become better known, and unable to be brushed aside, IF Russia does not burn bridges to the hearts of Ukrainians who are not of Russian heritage.
scorched earth is not necessary for Russia to prevail Militarily and the political cost post war would be huge.
“Only after the Maidan color revolution coup in 2014 did Russia move in Crimea.”
Auslander.
I will tell this truth one more time and and once more only. Since I have told this incontrovertible truth before, witnessed eyes on and with unimaginable joy by Victor Charlie Oscar and your’s truly, I will tell the tale once more only.
Mother did not immediately rush forward to seize the moment on Naxhimov Square in City Center of Sevastopol on that fateful day in March of ’14 when 40 thousands of citizens blockaded the entire city by force of unarmed will, this after the well timed even on Channel 5 in Kiev when Pravi Sector’s live interview with the two ‘victors’ of Maidan gleefully announced, both Tyagnibok and Yarosh, that they would come down to our peaceful town/village/seething city of rebellion and make our streets run red with blood and ‘put every moskal’ to the knife and swim in your blood’. Moskau stood back and watched, hoping against the nay Sayers that what she thought would happen did, indeed, happen.
Everything that happened in Naxhimov Square that day was, indeed, carefully handled 100% by the book of laws from both Russia and Ukrainah, IOW the orcs were hoist on their own petard in the end albeit the last three signatures needed for the event to legally progress may have been obtained with a certain degree of assurance that no signature at 35th Battery meant no foreseeable exit from 35th Battery way out on far west southside. As it happened, the signed documents from Sevastopol City Government authorizing the demonstrations came up the side steps of the podium set up in square just as our shortly to be appointed People’s Mayor came up the rear steps.
Not much of a sound was heard from Simferopol for the ensuing three days as personal choices were made and exchanged. It was only then that the polite young men in green were invited to come and provide security. We stood down when they appeared but did not turn in our weapons for several days after although we were unarmed in publik. All these polite young men were local based Russian Soldiers and Marines so they already knew the AO.
Rant over.
Auslander
My friend and brother-on-arms,
Good you mustered one more rant. Now go rest, please.
Full recovery. Doctors’ orders.
Your first person history, your wonderful fictional books disguising some of the actual are the Truth of Crimea.
People will always offer nonsense and lies about that reality.
It is a narrative too pure for them, too far from them to be absorbed and accepted.
Very few would do what the good citizens of Krim did in 2014.
It was you and VCO and your neighbors who made the Polite Green Men possible.
My good comrade Larchmonter 445, I must admit I caught whole double heck from two sides for that brief awakening of what is to come when I recover. Seems one of the children ratted me out to her Mother and I was heard typing away. Sigh. No wine, not a taste, since June, no beer either. Haven’t smoked in a year. Food is good though, the best.
Auslander
A very speedy and strong recovery to you, Auslander.
Trust me, I understand how hard it is to give up smoking, but I’m glad you did and sincerely do wish that everybody else would too.
But I’d happily share a nice bottle of good red with you (if no one was looking).
Very good to “hear” your voice again.
From a militairy perspective a bombing campaign would not have worked. Leveling cities perhaps but would cost much needed international backing (BICS). The Ukrainian militairy is dug in quite deeply on many locations, scattered around many tactical locations. They would just pop up again for raids. Plus they have many, many air defences which would need thousands of precision bombs with 200+ kilo warheads to be dropped from high altitude of by cruise missiles. Logistically just impossible as they are needed as well for other targets. It was obvious from the get go that it would be a ground war at first and that air domination would come in after. Plus there are more stages and scenario’s in this war where some air force and cruise missile supply will be crucial.
As for shutting down oil/gas, it seems to be used to cause some division at the opponent (EU block). Plus the contractual stuff which is actual international law instead of “rule based order”. In other words, Russia takes a bold but rational approach, strategic. On the other hand, insanity grows in the fog of war. By prolonging the war, many sentimens grow into irrational responses. This is one reason I do agree with your take. Although I do think Russia attempted to make it quick in the first day with the advancing to Kiev in combination with the failed attack from the air (airborne brigades).
It’s a Special Military Operation being fought in the context of essentially a civil war. And Russia’s “information war” is directed at the world outside the west, Zone B if you will. Consequently, Russia is both trying to prosecute the war in a manner that differs from the US way which Zone B has been subjected to for decades and also showing Zone B that unlike the US, Russia is a reliable partner in business.
Besides, Europe keeps doing what Russia might do anyhow. If Russia lets European leadership cut off energy, then European leaders get the blame rather than Russia.
But special operation in phase 1 has been proved as wrong strategy.
Many hoped with Phase 2 the correction would be introduced but the announced at great phase 2 turned out to be a tuned up phase 1…….
Has it? Only if one of the possible outcomes (quick surrender) is considered the actual goal. Ukrainian forces have not mounted any significant counter offensive, nor can they even reenforce the east with units from near Kiev since phase I proved that Russian forces can move quickly to fill that void.
We’re all assuming what the tactical and operational goals of RMoD are. Or we’re projecting what we think those goals should be. But we don’t know. We are left with a fair number of questions that have to be answered with either “can’t” or “won’t”. I’m assuming the latter in most cases because Russia could escalate. It could destroy all the civilian infrastructure throughout Ukraine. It could apply massive force ahead of large scale movements and leave pockets of resistance behind to achieve geographic goals. I guess I assume that it would do that before just letting itself be dragged down. Like everyone else though, I may well be wrong.
Everything what u ve wrote is right BUT timing in nowdays modern warfare is more important than 30 years ago.
The aphorism “Time is money” is also very well suited in modern warfare.
I would even go further and say “Time is life (less blood)” and “Time is propaganda (marketing)”
In this context phase 1 was a strategical failure and is waiting too long for correction.
But nevertheless ur arguments are justified.
Putin importantly reiterates that while the west complains/criticizes Russia for not going fast, they can go faster, but at the expense of lives. they dont have a need to go faster and lose more lives, so they go at the appropriate rhythm.
What if going slow costs more lives in the long run than going at a decent pace? Putin is King of the Festering conflict/Frozen conflict. Did it in 2014/15 and is doing it all over again.
You must be talking about the one who breaks the peace brokered by the other when you try to lie like that.
The Special Military Operation was in the beginning but that went bye bye many weeks ago. Russians better get up to speed or they will become a laughing stock of the west for decades.
respectfully, you are still talking the US/Nato way of war. Russia is the moral army the US/IDF pretend to be.
yes ok but moral army will not win wars and under current circumstances also not the hearts of ukraines. On the contrary the majority of ukraines feel screwed by russian moral army. The reaction is fierced resistance.
Here, too, the SMO (Special Moral Operation) has failed.
Thats why the USA way would be much more appropriate for Russia and after u can play out the humanitarian moral army.
USA went fast in Iraq. Still there.
USA went fast in Afghanistan. Kicked out after 20 years.
NATO went fast in Libya. Still there ten years after.
Maybe going fast is not best strategy.
Russia does not need to escalate at the moment. Its enemies are doing a good job of degrading themselves, without Russia firing one bullet at them. This is not about conquest, it is about making things go in the right direction at the enemies’ choice. If US/UK/NATO decides to formally enter hostilities, then that is the time to escalate with all guns blazing. I think patience will reward Russia at this stage, but the results will come slowly. Be patient.
It looks a lot like kabuki theatre. Civilians are still being shelled in the Donbass. What is a country like Russia thinking? The Western powers wants them “cancelled”, it’s simply another word for genocide. These soft approach to war makes them look weak in front of Western eyes, who are now simply upping the ante with all kinds of military aid and financial aid. They need to commit a much larger number of troops if they ever want to denazify Ukraine and prevent this conflict from widening much more.
Who cares what the western 12% thinks?
The rest of us are already operating in the other world, fast becoming the real world.
Exactly amarynth. It’s important for folks to know it is just 12% for the west. The west outsize cannon is a dream cannon. A hypersonic chimera of BS. And yes, the rest of us have moved on, forging a new reality.
I am glad that other people are starting to see what is staring them right in the face. The West has launched a total war on Russia and Russia is still stuck in the “Special Operation” mentality. Only the Chechens are taking it seriously. Thank God for them. They are example of what Russia use to be.
They showed a picture of the railway form Poland into Lvov the other day. It runs through a tunnel. Apparently, 100 trains a day comes through that tunnel every day. There it sits untouched on day 69 of the operation. Do you know how easy it would be to collapse that tunnel with a few missile strikes? God only knows how many tons of arms have come through that tunnel already. Also, I could be wrong and someone can correct me if I am, but I think this is the railway that all the Western Rats take to come into Kiev. You know image in war is important. Here Kiev sits perfectly safe, with one Western Rat after another coming to visit. Meanwhile, Russia border regions get shelled almost every day now.
For those that keep advocating for this new type of warfare Russia is waging, we have seen zero movement from Russia anywhere in over a week now. Remember when the Russian General Staff told us that the purpose of the Kiev feint was to lock down forces that Russia would have a free hand in the Donbass? Well that is simply not true. They have reinforced it and Russia let them do it. None of the Bridges across the Dnieper were destroyed. Now some are going to say this all part of strategy to try and destroy everything at once. Meanwhile NATO arms are coming in every day. Please don’t tell me that Ukraine has no one to operate them. It will be NATO personnel operating them. It will be NATO pilots that fly the F16’s and the Apaches. What happens when they are captured or killed? Ukraine will just say that they were drafted into their army and will provide them all the necessary documents needed. Doesn’t matter if no one believes it or not.
Hi C. V.
It sounds like you’re not from a military background and as such, I would like to say that fear can be very debilitating if left unchecked.
Your concerns are understandable and not without some merit, however, I would like to expand the possibilities on just one claim you made, and offer a counter perspective.
Just to put you at ease a bit.
It’s about the rail tunnel on the route to Kiev and the western rats using that to visit.
As far a I can tell, the only purported ‘evidence’ for that is from western rat media.
Lest we forget, their propaganda is first class and made for you too.
It seems their film productions are familiar Kiev settings, but there is no evidence they’re actually filmed on location, or that said rats are there.
Look closely & note the limited view angels & how closely cropped the scenes are.
No wider details are present to confirm the location at all.
They’ve long been staged, likely from a studio in Poland.
This war is paramount for NATO, and their one constant success is first class propaganda.
They may be reckless or even incompetent in the field, but risking their puppet stars like Elensky, or every western leader who is claimed to visit Kiev for a ‘war promo’ would be a real disaster for them.
Just imagine what havoc an opportune attack from a RF sympathiser or a Nazi fanatic who wanted to escalate the conflict, or a stray missile would do.
The rat propaganda must be micro managed in a fully secure environment.
Absolutely no risk.
That can’t be guaranteed in Kiev.
Also, Elensky and his family were evacuated about a month ago, remember, he’s the front man for the Empire of lies and only dies if they decide, not before.
The operation is in God’s hands and the RF personal are doing outstanding work with great care.
They’re not perfect but just the same, worthy of your trust.
They do know what they’re doing, even if it sometimes doesn’t seem like it.
it might be helpful to take a couple of deep breaths and count to 10 when you feel an anxiety attack coming on.
All the best
I also think that Russia is applying the strategy of slowly turn up the pain dial. If Ukie army collapsed in the first week deciding to accept the negotiations, they would not even have started a massive air bombing. In fact, troops around Kiev never intended to storm the city, indicating that Russia probably accepted to sustain losses here and on the northern front “only” to put pressure on the government and scatter the bulk of the enemy forces in a wide front. But Ukraine refused with US telling them to fight to the death. Thus, Russia updated the plans: no more spectacular incursions in depth, but slow advance in the south-east, starting to destroy oil depots and civilian infrastructures needed for the supply chain, with the definitive taking of Kherson/Zaporizha regions. Want more fight? More regions will be stormed and more civilian infrastructures will be destroyed.
If I am not mistaken, this seems the strategy, but we could judge how it worked only after a while.
“Troops around Kiev never intended to storm the city”
I think you should check this with the VDV and their efforts at Gostomel.
Intel slava brings up the Beskid tunnel – as to why it isn’t blown up. 100 trains a day?
You have taken notice of the ammunition stores and personnel being Kalibrated? RF allows the weapons to enter Ukraine, allows a stockpile to be built up …and then BOOM.
Do you think you are more capable than Russian Military Intelligence personnel?
What is more effective do you think to eliminate its transit or blow it up at some point upon its entry? What if Ukraine goes over to underground storage?
Why not do both?
As an American, I have that gene that wants to punch my opponent in the face for short-term pleasure. However, we always say that Putin plays chess, not checkers, and I think this is a perfect example. He’s like a cat playing with the mouse. Sure, he could turn off the gas, but then Europe would have someone to blame for their problems. Right now they’re intent on inflicting maximum damage on themselves, and their populations know it. As a bonus, the Euro-countries are bickering amongst themselves, all the while that Russia just goes on selling gas and earning money for their military operation, something that makes the Europeans crazy! Win-win for Russia and lose-lose for Europe.
Yes, I know, turning off the taps would be immensely satisfying to us, but this is so much craftier. The minute the taps get shut off if from Russia’s end, the Eurorats can simply start pointing at Russia as the source of all their woes. As it is, they need a mirror when they start pointing.
The only problem with that thinking is that Europe and the US already DO blame Russia for all their problems. I mean they still believe in the US that Russia caused Hilary Clinton to lose in 2016! And that’s part of this issue…Bet on some level that those same people believe that this is justified payback for that. (Biden, Pelosi, Schiff, Nadler, Clinton, etc. etc.)
I wasn’t thinking about the U.S. so much, as they’re a hopeless case, but I do enjoy seeing European countries bickering among themselves and having to pretend they’re not doing what they are doing, i.e., paying rubles. Of course they already blame Russia, but not nearly the way they could if the gas was simply turned off. It would give the hopelessly incompetent politicos a cover.
I look at it this way; Russia has entered into a War of Liberation, trying to minimise civilian casualties and destruction as well as attending to the humanitarian needs of the liberated territories; rather than a War of Conquest, where the military forces flatten everything like a steam-roller, leaving a destroyed country and population in its trail.
2nd fronts are appearing in the US where the plantation house and various ‘crackers’ (whip crackers) are busy screwing their populace. The abortion thing is going to explode in their faces. 2nd fronts are appearing in the UK and EU also. Not everyone wants to bend over and grab their ankles while enablers help our geriatric leaders up on a step stool and then hold their flaccid members in order to keep screwing us. We will refuse to bend the knee to gerontocracy or the sons and daughters of the SS.
“Don’t use it for a cacophony of complaints.”
I see there are many people here complaining why Russia is not doing what he/she thinks is the right thing to do. Ok, I understand the MSM really gets under our skin with their torrent of BS, but keep in mind these complaints will not solve the MSM problem, nor will it change anything in the battle. Russia is doing things under the constraints that only them can really balance. And yes, not going indiscriminately truculent on the civilians is the right thing to do, as is trying to preserve as much infrastructure as possible for the post-war phase.
So, I think it is more productive if we restrain ourselves to discussing only interesting news here.
I thought so, but many suffer from reading comprehension difficulties :-)
Nearly everyone commenting is focusing on Russia’s military force. What about Russia’s financial power? Just pricing its gas in rubles for the unfriendly countries and that too with easy convertibility for euros… This is a half-hearted attempt.
The West has declared FINANCIAL WAR on Russia. What is Russia’s response? Name a nation that the West has put sanctions on and not attacked it later.
Which law enables the West to freeze Russian Central Bank reserves? “For example, in 2016 Iran complained to the UN Secretary General that the sanctions [freezing of reserves] imposed by the EU and the US violated fundamental principles of state immunity. Iran’s protest was supported by a coalition of non-aligned states that issued a statement of the “Non-Aligned Movement in Rejection of Unilateral Actions by the United States in Contravention of International Law, in Particular the Principle of State Immunity.” Which nations has Russia rallied to file its protest? Have you heard Lavrov talking about this? When has Lavrov rallied support to achieve Russian goals in resolving challenges?
The West frames confiscation of central bank assets as countermeasures in response to Russia’s violations of international law in Ukraine. Yet Russia won’t talk about the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act (FSIA). The FSIA, the statutes of many other countries, and international law all provide near-absolute protection to foreign central bank assets used for central banking purposes. How many articles have you seen in the Russian media, particularly RT, about the monetary rules violations? Russian central bank comes across as if doesn’t care. Why?
Russia wants its allies to pay in adversary’s currency (it wants India to pay for oil in US$) for its resources. It is okay with the EU paying in euros which are converted to rubles. Why not the EU first earn rubles and then pay? Russia has to earn euros to spend. Its earned euro savings have been frozen. Yet it wants to trade in $ & €. Russia comes across LOST.
What has the Russian central bank done to get its investments back? What a failure in its planning to let half its reserve be frozen. It shows incompetence. If Elvira can’t get them back soon, then she better go or resign.
Please share creative moves by Russia to succeed in the Non-Military arena. It should have sold its resources in Rubles long time ago. When will it sell all its resources in Rubles? What happened to Russia’s Monetary Sovereignty? Russia doesn’t care.
America Has Stopped Playing by the Monetary Rules. Oops, there goes rules based order.
https://www.project-syndicate.org/commentary/us-freeze-russian-reserves-what-it-means-for-china-by-yu-yongding-2022-04
Max, don’t be hasty. Time is in Russia’s side. Russia has already done a lot, as we can all see from the EU wringing. The West has many problems of their own creation. What Russia has already done is starting to cause much pain. If needs arise, Russia can step up the pain dial.
HC, just questioning, curious and trying to understand, is not being hasty. Nope, time is not on Russia’s side. Please share creative moves by Russia in the Non-military arena. No whataboutism.
Russia has funded and fueled its adversaries for the past thirty years. Russia has been an enormous capital exporter in addition to energy. Its oligarchs have moved lot of its liquid assets out of the country, and enabled by the central bank’s huge $/€/£ forex reserves and keeping the currency float. What a treason.
Now that oligarchs will have more trouble parking money in London, Switzerland, France, etc., maybe now they will explore Dubai, Turkey, Israel,… The financial sanctions will slow down this looting but will it put a stop?
Let’s see how Russia holds these traitors accountable. This is as big a threat as Ukraine joining NATO. It has slowed Russia’s economic development. What has Vladimir Putin done to stop this looting?
Max,
Military RF is still making progress while being human.
Financially RF is winning, we the west are paying for the war through the resources we buy and our (at least West Europe and to a lesser extend USA ) economical / financial crisis which is getting worse. We try to bait RF into a broader war without committing NATO in the hope of overextending RF so we can eventually get our change of regime in RF ( hoping the next president will be our puppet).
My point is as long as the RF is united behind the SMO we the west are bleeding 10 times harder than the RF. And as was said in USA presidential debates: .” It is the economy stupid “
So we the west are pretending to go long term in the conflict because we have no choice while the longer the conflict lasts the more we were going down the drain.
Check close to checkmate sums it up in my opinion.
Time is on Russia’s side and time for you is running out, but let me first address your sanctions threat: ” name a country that USA has put sanctions on and never been attacked”.
Russia previously, China, Iran, Venezuela and North Korea to name just a few.
If you could have attacked these countries, you would have done it already.
Venezuela might seem the weakest, but they would make the Cuban revolution look like a cakewalk. They would be fully armed and take to the deep jungles and systematically attack and destroy you.
In the small island of Grenada, you lost 16 soldiers, some from friendly fire, but did manage to kill 26 Cuban worker’s. In Lebanon, under Regan they blew up 300 and you withdrew. Shortly, you will be kicked out of Syria and Iraq. But you must read a different kind of history.
Sanctions: China, India and many others will exchange goods and commodities in their own currencies. Europe has to pay for gas, deposited in Russian banks in rubles. Poland & Bulgaria refused and gas was cut off. The entire EU will suffer the same fate if they refuse to pay. Somebody above was right to say that Russia is making them cut off their own supplies, so that the people would know who to blame.
Why would Russia need Euros or the Dollar: theirs have been stolen? To buy BMWs? I think not. Nabullina the CB Russia is a person that I would hang from the highest tree, but I think Putin has something better for her.
Today, Russia says that they might confiscate 500 billion of western assets to compensate for the 300 stolen.
Amarynth and all,
Living in the west the mighty Wurlitzer runs 24/7 and even if you do not watch MSM you will be affected and start doubting.
This happens more during a lul in the news about military progress of the RF.
That is why repeating the facts ad nauseam is important. We are living in a world where instant satisfaction is the norm so we all except more or less a continuous good news show. If this stops for a couple of days because an operation is ongoing but nothing special can be reported until a significant gain is made then doubt creeps up. Simple example, nightvision reports every 48 hours but no major changes were made the last 48 hours so no report. There comes the doubt about one’s own believes because of the power of continuous MSM bombardement. At least I feel this effects myself and start re-evaluating my position during those times. Luckily to come to the conclusion that I am still right. I am pretty sure that I am not the only one.
This is an example not trying to force a report out of nightvision every 48hours )).
Auslander,
This is why it is important that we get the grounding of your reports of what you saw and experienced yourself. It counter balances the 24/7 MSM, but yes MSM is 24/7 so a regular repeat of your experience is needed so people remember “Aah yes my initial take on events is right” so please do not be upset because most of us need the grounding from time to time.
This was my two cents.
Kesnet
What do our doubts about the operation matter, considering that most of us are not risking, so that we are being informed at every moment about the state of the SMO, risking that the enemy finds out about the strategy?
As someone said before: “Let’s not pretend to know more than the Russian General Staff”
(I hope I didn’t misunderstand his comment)
No one who has been following the commentaries on this site would ask such a question unles they are either a fool or a troll. Russia will have to pick up the pieces in eastern Ukraine at least once this conflict. It’s must be pretty obvious by now to most civilians there that their main enemy is their own government, who are beholden to outside interests and could not care less about the people of Ukraine. For Russia, there’s no point in devastaing the country (people they regard as mostly their own kith and kin) you’re seeking to liberate. The West now knows it is going to lose this war. Their only hope now – and it is a desperate one – is to try to goad Russia into the sort of devastaing they wrought on Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and tried to do to Syria, in all of which countries they are now hated by most people. It ain’t going to happen. I hate to say it about my own country, but the idiots in power and those controlling them also our worst enemy.
Just a thought on the above debate on Russia going soft. Russia intends to keep a large part of Ukrainian territory and population. Their leaders appear to be going by The Art of War’s strategy of conquering the hearts and minds of the people they wish to (re)attach to them. One does not achieve that by flattening the entire country and disabling basic necessities of the people. Russia is imo, wisely and humanely rejecting Machiavelli’s advice to rule through fear rather than love.
I completely agree and I will add that the very fact that Russia has not turned off the electricity, internet. water, gas etc. just shows that Russia is clearly in the driver’s seat and the SMO is going exactly as planned. People have to remember that the Ukrainian people are living under a dictatorship, brainwashed and fed Russophobia 24/7 around the clock. Putin knows he is dealing with subtleties. Many Ukrainians are for the time being under a form of military mind control. People should go to SouthFront and watch the video of the Cuban woman who was living in Mariupol. She was told by the Ukrainian militants that if she set foot outside that the Russians would execute her on the spot. This is the deception many Ukrainians have been living under. FYI the very eloquent Cuban woman has been rescued by the Chechens and has relocated with her husband to Russia.
Russia might be forced to devastate Ukraine in any case. Have you seen the destruction to date: Marinka is a moonscape, Avdeevka, Popasnaya, Mariupol are in ruins. All indications are that the same wiil happen to Kharkov, Slavyansk, Kramatorsk, severodonestke, Nikolaev, Odessa and all the settlements and approaches to the major cities.
So the parts that are NOT being trashed are in central and western Ukraine that are mainly anti-Russian. Whereas the parts that ARE being trashed are in the east where Russia wants to conquer hearts and minds, we’re told. I see.
These cities may well end up devastated. But whose fault is that? Did the Russians destroy their cities through missile strikes and artillery fire as soon as they arrived? Are they dropping napalm ad random? No.
Their kindergartens, hospitals etc are being destroyed because scum has decided to fight from these locations. And the civilian population witnesses and understands this.
The same civilians witness that the newly arrived Russians are trying to bring life in their destroyed cities back to normal, and if not possible offer them the opportunity to move to Russia or other parts of Ukraine. They are given a choice, which civilian hostages weren’t given.
In short, yes it is very well possible to conquer the hearts and minds of people whose cities you have destroyed. Thus it is called the Art of war.
How can Hungary be so selfish???!!!
https://www.zerohedge.com/energy/hungary-definitively-rejects-sanctions-russian-oil-gas-well-get-supplies-without
Maybe with Orban being put on the assassination list of the NaziButNot ReallyNaziBecauseLookZelenskyIsAJew regime he might reconsider… If not, he will get “uninterrupted flow of gas,” the selfish monster!
I think there may have been a tad of sarcasm there.
Norm – maybe, but we in Hungary are hearing such voices also without sarcasm.
Most of countries do the same – but only Orban is TELLING it openly. It would be an economical suicide, if others want to commit, OK, their business. Orban is responsible for his country and his people. The article you linked in is exactly saying that.
Otherwise, Hungary had only few clashes with “the Russians” (and was always defeated), so there is no real root of hatred or anger. Most of Hungarians understand the difference between “Russian” and “Soviet/bolshevik”. On the other hand there is a numerous Hungarian minority in Ukraine who are treated by the Ukrainian state since 2014 like a piece of sh.t, similarly as ethnic Russians, Poles, Romanians etc. What we – yes, I am Hungarian from Hungary, these are first-hand infos – saw from Ukrainians are smuggeld cigarettes and vodka, maffia clashes, prostitutes and so on. In short: there is not too deep love between our countries.
Do not spare European citizens and make it as difficult as possible for Europe, only then can European citizens be freed from their tyrants.
Nonsense. We are not going west, why should they live in comfort while Ukraine goes scorched earth in the East? I am not saying bomb civilians, but civilian structure that also serves a dual military use needs to be destroyed.
A mixed day today. Serious work on the rail, an announcement by Kadyarov that phase 2 has begun, but withdrawal and lost ground in and around Kharkov. We shall see if we start to see a true offensive on the ground.
There are reports on IntelSlava and other Telegram channels that retired Canadian Forces lieutenant general Trevor Cadieu has been captured in Astoval. I cannot find official confirmation.
Given that he was under investigation for sexual misconduct, I can only imagine that Canada would not be displeased to see him dead or in permanent Russian detention.
https://ottawacitizen.com/news/politics/retired-canadian-general-under-police-investigation-for-alleged-sexual-misconduct-is-now-in-ukraine
I don’t buy the cover story Canada has cooked for him to claim he was acting on his own. The article in the link you provided claims he “retired” from the military (allegedly to escape sexual harassment allegations, yeah, right., generals have a notoriously hard time to swat such claims……) and then decided to “explore other opportunities”. No kidding. The best choice was obviously to go to Ukraine…. Pleeeaaase! And another whooper: the Canadian military had no contac with him after he left until he was rapped in Azovstal. Pleeeease.
May I make a prediction? Any other high-ranking Otan military that is grabbed out of Azovstal will also turn out to have gone to Ukraine out of personal initiative.
Correction: NATO, not Otan
ariadna, please look at the logo
https://www.nato.int/
It is referred to as OTAN here in Spain.
In all the Spanish-speaking world it is OTAN (Organizacion del Tratado del Atlántico Norte). Nowadays I exchange more e-mails in Spanish than in English so this acronym has almost become a reflex. I corrected myself so what’s the problem?
ariadna, complete agreement. I can’t imagine a top-level commander under investigation being allowed to leave the country. and to take it further, after leaving the country being allowed to take part in biological weapons experiments with active duty Nato/EU military personnel.
The Cabal who rule the West i.e. US , England etc. have the superstitious custom to reverse everything. See also 1984 of Gerog Orwell.
So nato becomes otan. See the wicked and devilish logo of the Nato!
Me thinks that allegation is more so of Canada’s politic trying to wash their hands of the man and distance themselves from him and his presence in Astoval.
Things like this can backfire as a General hung out to dry by his employee….. Well use your imagination. The narrative does not look good for Canada if he is indeed a captured asset in light of Canada’s behavior in recent years at home and abroad.
Oh and people, why the push for so much destruction and suffering? Yes, there are problems with Ukraine but is it the general populations fault? Same with the EU and West in general? Let the rope be given and the leaders of Clown World use it to their own detriment.
He left Canada in the first week of April. The timelines don’t mesh neatly with him being in Azovstal.
Definitely, the sexual-misconduct is a cover-up, it is fabricated by the Canadian Government. They know
exactly why, when, and what this general commissioned by Canadian tax dollars doing in Ukraine.
The same military lied to the Canadian media that they don’t screen (for Nazi) during training upto Nato standards. Complete BS
If you believe all of that… it is utter shit, and PR control the Trudeau government is in, and Canada has alot, alot of blood on its hands. I’m not even sure if the public knew about it, it would even make a difference.
Canada is the breeding grounds for ‘hate’ and ‘evil’.
Maybe it was a Dirty Dozen type Special Operation where The General recruited a Unit of Misfits. guaranteed their freedom by serving in Ukraine.
It seems that Azovstal merceneries are living their last hours given Russian and DPR firepower. Mariupol will be remembered has the greatest Russian victory after 1945.

“Russia will begin to confiscate the property of Western businesses in Russia.”
I don’t think this would be a smart thing to do (it might even go against the constitution). Who would want to invest in a country, where his property could be confiscated?
I also would not try to sell it to interested parties in Russia.
Why not just wait and see what the owners want to do with it. If they want to close shop, let them go ahead with it. It might be difficult to move all their belongings abroad and maybe it’s cheaper to just leave everything where it is.
And if there are abandoned production facilities, maybe somebody is inclined to start producing something again with a little help from a domestic bank……
“I don’t think this would be a smart thing to do (it might even go against the constitution). Who would want to invest in a country, where his property could be confiscated?”
Surely not the westerners, it is aim for the westerners, alsl who wants to do business with them anyway today, their dollars are no longer needed… but the westerners who still had some interest might be able to bypass any restrictions through 3rd or 4th party.
“And if there are abandoned production facilities, maybe somebody is inclined to start producing something again with a little help from a domestic bank……”
That’s why the Chinese is here….
“where his property could be confiscated” you could ask that question to 30 plus million Canadians, they know first hand, they looked fascism in its ugly WEF face.
And in case you are not aware in 5 eye countries, no one owns property, you rent the land your building/s sit on….. it’s called property taxes, and if you fail to pay ground rent……you become an instant Roma, saddle up, and move along.
Easily verified if you own property of any kind. No where on the ‘Deed’ is the word ‘owner’ it reads…..”tenant” as my wife and I on ours reads “co tenants”.
Democratic illusions.
Cheers M
In fact the territory of Canada is all owned by the British crown. Nice one, eh?
Taking property without compensation is generally completely out of bounds of civilized behavior. However, West has “frozen” 300 billion USD of Russian bank deposits and bonds. Basically, declaration of financial war. In that context, Russia could as sort of collateral at least temporarily assume ownership or at least “freeze” and assume management of Western corporate assets.
As much as I disagree with you in general, I think this is a reasonably sane assessment given the circumstances.
Putin has already mentioned in recent days the possibility of seizing all foreign assets in Russia, it’s likely that he will do so.
A couple of years ago I read Russia had a nuclear bomb against pressure from west, an ace, in backhand. Could be I even read it here on Saker.
This was Russian PRIVATE debt to West, Russian Corporations, Companies or private owners.
As long as this confiscation of Western property or default in Russia is by private Russian owners or Cooperations (which are all sanctioned anyway), it would have no influence on the Russian State’s International financial nor legal obligations.
Im not quite sure if I am precise here, other than it sounds logical to me. Maybe also a logical reason for this extreme absurd and sudden freezing of Russian $300 billion assets in West. So if anyone knows more, please feel free to correct.
“The Dollar has just fallen below 67 rubles.”
That is awesome and so great to read that Russia is prevailing economically as well as militarily. Ruble is the best performing currency on the planet.
“Volodin stated that up to $500 billion worth of Western assets were blocked on the territory of the Russian Federation, which counterbalances the $300 billion of Russian reserves blocked in the West.
In the event of the confiscation of the property of Russian oligarchs in the West, Russia will begin to confiscate the property of Western businesses in Russia.”
Hope Russia follows through with this. That 300 billion theft was outrageous.
Even super diplomatic Lavrov referred to it as thieving.
Kempston,
A strong currency doesn’t mean good and a weak currency means bad.
A strong currency kills your exports and jobs.
I’m not going to post them all but here are at least a dozen articles worth reading on FX.

Right hand side click on the word Forex.
I hope you enjoy them.
“A strong currency kills your exports and jobs.”
Maybe but you sure have much more room to negotiate. What you are saying is old news.
billy, serious question…russia is in the enviable position of owning commodities in great demand, in some cases neither readily or easily replaced in the near (2-3yr window) future. it has a motivated population with a possible influx of refugees. does the formula or truth which is true in the oligarchy of the west transfer effectively to russia, or could it be that just as the formula of traditional nato warfare is/has been radically changed, also changing? & if that paradigm/truth still holds no matter, please, be so good as to gently explain how & why. thank you.
Billy, remember the ruble is pegged to gold. If the ruble gets too strong, there will be an incentive for people to buy gold in dollars (or euros) and sell it in Russia for rubles, converting it back to dollars. This should make the ruble a little less strong (and at the same time making gold more expensive in dollars, but, hey, the West started this financial war). That guarantees a nice balance to the income from the exports.
The stuff Russia primarily exports is vital to the countries buying it.
Energy, metals, food etc.
If Russian exports were non essential your argument might hold but no – they will pay more because they need it.
Russia is actually, literally, keeping the west alive.
From RT:
“Russia retaliates against ‘unfriendly states’
…
President Putin signed a new set of tit-for-tat measures over Western sanctions
…
“Russian President Vladimir Putin introduced a package of economic measures on Tuesday to retaliate against international sanctions placed on Moscow.
The new decree seeks to protect Russia’s national interests, and was adopted “in connection with the unfriendly actions of the United States and its allies that violate international law and aim to illegally deprive the Russian Federation and Russian legal entities of their property,” the decree, published on the Kremlin’s website, states.
Putin gave the Cabinet of Ministers 10 days to determine the list of persons to be placed under the reciprocal sanctions.
The new measures prohibit government agencies, organizations, and individuals from “carrying out transactions (including signing external trade contracts) with legal entities, individuals, and organizations” on the new blacklist.
The decree also prohibits the export of products and raw materials if they are destined to sanctioned persons.
Russian entities and persons are also prohibited from fulfilling their obligations and carrying out financial transactions with the sanctioned companies and individuals….”
….

I think Russian started to go into the detail and now gonna squeeze it pretty hard from this point. Now we talk about full retaliation from Russkiye, no way back from now, the west is the past and history will be written from the east.
Does anybody knows who is behind this General SVR? 5th columnist? CIA or SBU?
Today all western media relying on his messages on telegram about Putin and Ukraine.

Hi, it’s really a mess here in Germoney.
Yesterday I heard from a russian Woman that lives here in Germoney for years that her bankaccount was blocked: because she is russian, In our town are many russians they should come together and make the Commerzbank learn a lesson I think.
Ukraine is still winning and Russia losing in the media. All those who say so never learned from the previous great crisis – the Covid crisis – that the demon of hysteria rose up together with the virus starting on the same day the virus became known. I hope you know this (not trying to compete with Martyanov). May they learn about “bias”, “hysteria”, “lack of critical thinking”, “missing the other side of this story”, “professionalism”, “repentance”, etc., after Russia defeats Ukraine in this war.
Russia is winning in the media that people listen to. Samizdat long ago conquered the hearts and minds. Regimist Media gets the readership of a mid level Youtube blogger these days.
Can somebody explain to me how Russian derives tangible value from the Rubble for Gas payment system. Wouldn’t it make more sense to go for a Bartering system ? Gas is used for many practical things (e.g. as an energy source). How does digital Euros benefit a Russia under western sanctions ?
The Ruble (not Rubble ;-D) can be used internally.
You sell gas to a foreigner, get paid in your own currency Ruble which increases your investment opportunities inside your own country, plus it strengthens your Ruble as a valuable trustworthy currency backed by commodities toward friendly foreign countries you are trading with.
This enables the Russian government to issue more Rubles without inflation, ie strong Ruble, the country get richer.
The bartering system toward foreign countries doesnt make your country especially richer. You just risk to receive a lot of junk for the junk you are selling. Gas versus tomatoes. You cant build new factories offering the Contractors tomatoes. No fun.
Yes its paper money, but backed by real values.
$300 billion was stolen from Russia. A large part of the sum was payment for gas and oil supplies. It was only possible because Gazprom had to keep money in accounts in Western Banks (according to Western rules). They wanted to punish Russia, so they stole it.
Today the West suggest Russia continue trading as before, and the money remains in their accounts. They will steal it again. Somehow no one in the West discusses this issue.
So, what Russia is proposing and implementing is supplies should be considered payed for not when Gazprom Bank receives euros or dollars, but when they are converted to rubles so they cannot be stolen. That’s the entire story. The West knows this. Note, nothing changes for the buyers. They still pay the sums specified in the contracts in euros or dollars. Those currencies are then converted into rubles via currency traders on the Moscow Exchange. Only then are the deliveries considered paid.
That is how the trade value of Russian gas becomes tangible in rubles. That is to say, those rubles are now available to be spent in Russia and elsewhere for items of labor, materials, investment, etc.
The main point is to stop the blatant theft of Russian goods and services by the West via settlement in rubles in Russia.
In the West, some who can think are noticing, but others just watch TV. This blog is based in Australia, with contributors fro all over.
https://richardsonpost.com/jorge-vilches/26838/epic-dead-cat-bounce-for-stupid-euro-payment-plan/
Waba,
That is a complicated question, but “part” of it is this:
You have to think about the “fiat money” system in terms of contracts. You can write a contract in terms of anything, even conch shells. All that matters is that you fulfill the contract. And if you can’t find the required number of conch shells to fulfill the contract, then you go into default (breach of contract) with everything that entails, for example losing a piece of property, etc.
Right now the US Dollar and Euro are the default currencies. So almost all contracts are written in US dollars or Euros. So, lets say you take out a 30 year mortgage to be paid back in US dollars; that means for the next 30 years you are going to need to find US dollars. And therefore there is a need for US dollars in the world for the next 30 years. The world can’t do without them. It is a very clever system. A US dollar is a worthless piece of paper (as worthless as a conch shell) but because you agreed to the exchange in US dollars, they have value (you have to figure out how to obtain them). And it turns out the United States can print them at will.
However, Russia has insisted that all future raw material contracts will be written in rubles and all present contracts (because of the $300 billion theft) will also need to be paid in rubles. This creates a demand for the ruble, the same way there is a demand for US dollars. And now Russia can go out and offer rubles for some electronic product and the seller says: “Okay! I know someone who needs to buy Russian gas and he will buy my rubles. Perfect!”
Right now there is a demand for US dollars because almost all contracts are written in US dollars. And right now there is a demand for Russian rubles because you can buy raw materials with Russian rubles. When people stop writing contracts in US dollars, the United States is going to find that the world has little need of its currency, however, people are always going to need to buy raw materials.
And that explains a lot of the behavior of the United States over the years: the “rules based international order”. If you look beyond the history they teach us plebs, you will find that Saddam crossed the line when he began selling his oil for Euros and Gaddafi wanted to develop a gold backed trans-African currency. They both challenged the US dollar denominated contract system. However, Russia is neither Iraq nor Libya. (lol)
There are probably half a dozen other reasons, and the example I gave above is rather simplistic (apologies to the real experts reading this), but it gives you an idea of what is behind the move.
V&Z was already retaliated…
https://www.rt.com/russia/554899-russia-drone-hub-odessa/
“Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov said at a daily press briefing that a hangar with Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 combat drones was destroyed, along with weapons from the US and Europe.
The ministry released a video of three missiles being launched from the ground.
Overall, six military sites were hit by airstrikes overnight, including a fortified command center near Kharkov in eastern Ukraine, Konashenkov said.”
This is a very serious battle Russia is up against the combined zio-western evil doers. Civilized reactions by Moscow in the face of the NATO monsters, for example in the release of civilians from the Azovstal, which was carried out so professionally by the Russian Military, makes the westerners wrongly conclude that Russia is weak and in need of recognition.
It might seem like that because of the wests Msm echochamber effect reinforcing the politicians delusions of grandeur, imagine when the bubble bursts.. ropes lampposts etc.. And to every non brainwashed ppl in the west it shows that Russia , for all its flaws is NOT the AngloAmerican beast. That being said.. psalm 146:3 put not your trust in princes, nor in the son of man, in whom there is no help. Why? V 4 says his breath goeth forth, he returneth to his earth; in that very day his thoughts perish. Who shall we put our faith in then?
John 17:3 says And this is life eternal, that they may know the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom thou has sent.
May you all have a peaceful day
The brave NaziNotNaziNaziBecauseLookZelenskyIsAJew in Azovstal say that even if they run out of food they will still resist because they will… catch birds… Birds? Down there underground? Maybe bats. Anyway this is most likely BS emitted by ‘Elensky:

Friends of Auslander,
I just got off the phone with Auslander. He’s back home, out of hospital, getting oxygen treatments and trying to rest and rebuild strength after long bout with Covid.
He will be some more many days before he can contribute to the Vineyard.
He sends thanks for all the prayers and kind thoughts.
He cautions all to not believe a negative word about the Russian military. They are winning big and the Operation is going very smoothly. You don’t measure speed of war. You measure tempo of impact, targets destroyed, KIAs, prisoners, Ukie units broken.
Thanks to all for keeping Auslander in your thoughts and prayers.
Great news,
I’m really looking forward to Auslander! I send him a lot of strength!
@Larchmonter445
Thank you for the update and for Auslanders wisdom and caution regarding the SMO.
I believe I found this blog and ‘Smoothie” after Auslander became ill. However, I know he is highly respected among many on these blogs.
Will continue to keep him in prayer and thought
Thanks for this Larchmonter!
When I come to this site I look for larchmonter and auslanders posts in the replies. I wish him well, thanks for the update
Great good news! Allahou Akbar! We wish him to recover well and quick ! Friendlily
Very Good News!
Thanks for updating us Larch.
Great to hear Auslander is back home and recovering. My thoughts are with him. Hope he is completely recovered soon.
Good to hear. Thank you for the update on Auslander. Glad he is home. My prayers and thoughts are with him and I hope he makes a full recovery.
Thanks for the update!
Good to hear Auslander is on the mend.
Thank you, Larchmonter445, and many thanks to Auslander for all he has written here – I just planted black Krim tomato seeds from my own tomatoes – my link to your beautiful country from before all of this began. May you and they thrive!
Thank you, Larchmonter. I will add Auslander to my prayers. I’m glad he had good care. Now good nutrition and good sleep should help him.
Russia must not only demand payment in rubles for all its exports but must also insist that all foreign diplomats addressing Russian officials speak Russian or have their speeches previously translated into Russian, otherwise it is a huge and unfair waste of time for Russia.
PARIS, May 3. /TASS/. French President Emmanuel Macron held a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Tuesday. According to France’s BFM TV channel, the conversation lasted over two hours.
———————
Of the two hours Macron talked for an hour and a half and Putin only for half an hour because the Russian language has no definite and indefinite articles while the French does and, to make matters worse, the French language also has partitive articles that Russian (like English) lacks.
This explains why a French guy can prattle for 5 minutes and the translator renders the verbiage in a minute.
No matter the outcome of this mess, geography will remain the same. Russia will be there, over 11 time zones by far the largest country on this planet. With vast areas where gigantic quantities of resources (some unexplored yet) that will give Russia the edge. Same is true about Ukraine. Will remain Russia’s neighbor forever. Unfortunately a lot less Ukrainians will live there and their country will be pushed against Russia in perpetuity. It is hard to understand Ukrainian population. They don’t understand that hey are used as pawns? And the government is using them only to squeeze more money for the deal they made behind peoples back?! At the end of the day all peoples in power will run away and keep what they stole while Ukrainians will be used and abandoned.
A very good re[port from Alex C.

I think Serbia should comply with the EU and US demands and impose two drastic sanctions on Russia that are likely to inflict deep economic pain on Russia:”
Ban imports of Sevruga caviar and those Russian dolls (Matrushka?).
On the cultural front they should prohibit the use of the cyrillic alphabet in any Serbian language publications. Harsh? Yes. But that is all that is needed from Serbia.
What are these news about a Russian command operation center located in a school in Donbas being bombed and over 200 people killed? With Gherasimov just missing the attack?
I heard that also, is it true? How would such a strike occur? Just like Moskva – Nato
Yeah sure .. there were three Russian command operation centers located in school and they were all bombed.
/sarc
Do you not yet know that Russia does not put their command centers in schools?
You must be the same dude who believes the Russians and Chechen’s are shooting each other.
Spreading false propaganda, is beyond useless here. Move on…
you are too presumptuous. I asked because I was concerned and I wanted to have that info debunked. Unfortunately nobody was good enough with that.

Translation: “Representatives of Slovakia and Hungary said that their countries would not support the energy sanctions that the EU is preparing against Russia due to its invasion of Ukraine.”
So Slovakia is aligning its energy politics within the EU with Hungary (Viktor Orbán). This means big trouble for the Russophobe EU commission (Mrs Von der Leyen & co).
As far as I am concerned Ukraine leadership including Nazi pigs must be all lined up and receive the death penalty. Apart from that their oligarch donors 1stly Igor Kolomoisky as well including all Zelenzky advisors especially this mother f*cker Oleksiy Arestovych, including Zelenzky himself and their foreign coke snaffing paedophile Nazi western backers like the Biden family, Nuland and her husband even Bill Gates and all the cabal that is behind these bio labs.
I am curious why no top level Regime figures have been liquidated as of yet. Does Russia seriously think they will have an opportunity to arrest any of them? Rest assured the regime criminals already have citizenships with other countries, overflowing bank accounts, and bolt holes all planned out should Russian forces start to approach.
I pose this question because I think if Russia started to do this, it might help a lot to firm up the internal opposition within the cities. There are some terrible things happening to people in Dnipropetrovsk and Nikolaev.
Just stumbled upon the ‘what type of moron flys a Ukrainian flag’ story cross linked to a US run of the mill, reader supported web site…… what next, Andrei and Andrei live on Tucker Carlson.
That be so cool……
Cheers M
I for one will leave the strategy to the Russians, surely they have put a lot of thought into it. It seems to me they are accomplishing the announced goals, certainly demilitarization and denazification seems to be well underway. I suspect they will ‘cleanse’ the entire E., from Kharkov down thru to Odessa, and leave the rump state of Ukraine land locked. Details on unconditional surrender can be negotiated later. Of course they cannot bomb the F out of all of Ukraine the way the Yanks would, with 10 or so active nuclear generating plants that would leave 10 potential Chernobyls, one is enough. And why be in such an uncivilized hurry, Every day the Russians are in Ukraine consolidating goals, is a direct punch into the nose of NATO. Personally, I hope that they announce to the Poles and NATO that no cross border incursions trying to seize territory will be tolerated any more than weapons delivery, and the first time that happens a missile attack like the one that wiped out that NATO staging base in W. Ukraine will be repeated. Nip it in the bud and send a clear message.
There is a meme/poster being circulated about social media quoting Fidel Castro in Spanish which I take with a pinch of salt regarding its authenticity that says ” The next war will be fought in Europe between Russia and Fascism disguised as Democracy.” While I don’t dispute the veracity of these words, I have found absolutely no sources for them as well, at least not in the English language. This brings me to a story circulated around the globe sometime in 2012, including by our pro-western Indian presstitutes, which accused Castro of using Ex-Nazis of the German extreme right to procure small arms from Bulgaria and to train his men in 1962. The story, which was invariably planted by some US spook agency, as the story originated there, quoted Bundesnachrichtendienst (BND)—the German foreign intelligence agency, whose founder himself was Nazi Lieutenant-General Reinhard Gehlen, who surrendered to the US and turned into a CIA collaborator and anti-soviet propagandist post-WW2. Furthermore, with Bulgaria being firmly entrenched in the eastern block in those days, Castro hardly needed the services of West German Nazis to buy arms from them.
Belonging to a long tradition of western countries spewing unsubstantiated dirt and venom, disguised as news, against their enemies both current and those well past their prime, (Castro retired from politics in 2008), the story was in the same mould as many others published earlier during the 60s and 70s by the western media, similarly accusing Egypt and Syria of harbouring ex-Nazis. All the while conveniently ignoring Operation Paperclip which was the largest operation for rehabilitating Nazis and bringing them to the US. And the fact that the entire West German bureaucratic apparatus, law enforcement and the judiciary were saturated with ex-Nazis ( if there is such a thing), and even those who escaped to South America like Borman and Mengel lived there under the protection of the local Fascist Dictators who were all in one way or another planted or supported by the United States.
I am going to probably be chastised for this, but here it comes. Most of you have never fought a war on a higher level than a squad, company or battalion sized unit. Even then it takes time do actually secure an area, round up the enemy and help the local civilians, not to mention rebuilding. This conflict has just begun, it took the US coalition almost a year to get Iraq out of Kuwait.
Taking into consideration the local civilians, throws a serious monkey wrench into the equation. I took a battalion to Desert Strom and even than at our level of experience we did not know the end of the timeline. I think we left too soon as did many other high level military vets but you do what you do. The only ones that know are Putin and his advisors.
Gordon,
My rough timeline for phase 2 ( Donbass Cauldron ) starting Mid April
~ 4 weeks to move units into place from Northern Front refit, and quick brush up training
~ 12 -14 weeks to eliminate most Kiev units in cauldron; it’s 80x80km
Takes us to mid-August before Cauldron is mostly liberated and secure.
Phase 3 couldn’t begin until 6 – 8 weeks after mid-August
Thoughts ?
This is very much a civil war. Russia is showing MUCH restraint. Consider the US Civil War: The Union Army left a trail of scorched earth when it invaded the Confederacy. General Sherman showed no such restraint. What he couldn’t steal, he burnt to the ground. Threw mothers and children out of their homes and made them watch their houses burn down with nothing but the clothes on their backs. The US has followed that same tactic ever since. Kudos to the Russians for being humane to their Ukrainian brothers and sisters {for the most part}.
Sherman and other top Union commanders didn’t adopt scorched earth tactics until the third year of the war, apart from occasional instances in the second year. In the first year of the war, the Union tread lightly in the parts of the southern states it controlled, just like the Russians did when they first went in. Now the Russians have reached the second stage: grind up enemy forces without scorching the earth more than necessary. If the war continues in the months and years ahead, we’ll may start seeing Russian forces razing infrastructure and turning Ukrainian cities into new Fallujahs Mosuls and Raquaas.
the persecution continues MoD Russia.
❗️In Kharkov, fighters of the territorial defence battalions, together with officers of the SSU, conduct raids to identify local residents who express pro-Russian views or condemn the current Ukrainian authorities.
▫️Citizens whose phones contain such correspondence and calls to Russian numbers are detained and taken to an unknown location. Dozens of detainees have not returned home to date.
▫️According to reliable data, similar large-scale raids have previously been conducted in Nikolaev, Sumy, Chernigov and a number of other settlements.

Is this a real war or kabuki theater?

Agreed. Maybe Russia is positioning herself as the “Good Guys”, still hoping for a negotiated settlement instead of outright conquest.

Completely agree here. I’m baffled as to what the Russians are doing. They could bomb the entire country into submission and they don’t.

——————————————————————
@ Lazar on May 03, 2022 · at 11:14 am EST/EDT
But special operation in phase 1 has been proved as wrong strategy.
——————————————————————-
With so many armchair generals, I am sure Russia is not bound to lose this war, if they apply as military advisors to Shoigu and Putin.
Lex, you’re going in the right direction, with some additions.
First of all, it is defined as “Special Military Operation” for a reason. It is not a war. As invaluable A. Martyanov describes it, it is a “combined arms police operation,” not kabuki theater. A Combined Arms Police Operation can also be termed as a “punitive operation,” aimed at eliminating/containing a perceived/potential threat to the security of a nation.
A war requires a declaration of war, there has been none, from Russia to Ukraine or vice versa.
More recently I copied a post from Colonel Cassad directed to the armchair generals who are impatient with the pace of the war, or discontent with the Russian military operations in Ukraine.
The headline was Difficulties of the second phase of the special military operation
https://colonelcassad.livejournal.com/7586844.html
Difficulties of the second phase of the special military operation
Quite often we encounter a lack of understanding by ordinary people of what is happening at the front. In some ways, this is the fault of television experts, who for eight years have been spreading hooray-patriotism about “worthless Ukrainians”. In some ways, this is a banal lack of understanding of the specifics of military operations in the region.
In the Kharkiv and Luhansk regions, the rate of advance of the Allied forces remains relatively slow. In the south, in the Donetsk and Zaporizhia regions, progress is almost imperceptible.
Therefore, some people may have the erroneous idea that the second phase of the CDF declared by the Russian military command has stalled.
However, this is not the case.
The main task of the second phase involves establishing full control over the Donbas. And here you need to take into account several factors:
——————————————————————
Read on and learn, hopefully it will temper your arrogance.
Russia’s SMO has been going at a deliberate pace for many reasons, overt and not, regardless, stop your requests for Russia to go on a scorch earth campaign when the goals are totally different. Long ago Russia knew Battlefield Ukraine was to become a defining battle between East and West, Zone A and Zone B, they prepared for it thoroughly, and their strategy is unfolding at no rush, while observing the US/NATO hurriedly making preparations for a war they have already lost strategically, in Ukraine and otherwise.
Phase B of the SMO comprehends LDNR and beyond, with many cities, towns, and regions, voting to leave Ukraine either with their feet or in referendums.
As the Empire of Lies and their lap dogs increase their militarization of Ukraine, Russia might make a declaration of war, which will be a totally different operation. There are rumors Putin is about to make new announcements on May 9, fundamental changes in the operation against Zone A, we will have to wait and see.
So far, the SMO is going according to plan, no problems whatsoever. Only for the armchair generals, who think (or not?) a war is like playing games in their computers. I would recommend for them to completely retreat for a weekend with A. Martyanov videos, they would learn a thing or two about the reality of this war, plus, Mr. Martyanov is real fun.
Just watch how he destroyed the Pentagon spokesperson, clown and comedian John Kirby. Few times I have seen/hear A. Martyanov that angry, this time he was really upset, which makes him even more funny, cut Kirby’s head and showed it to the world for us to see it was empty.
Enjoy, and stop making predictions and demanding actions about which you know nothing at all.
War is serious business, and few nations in the world take war as seriously as the Russian people.
They know the cost of war, the “March of the Immortal Regiment” is a living testimony to that.

Good post, apart from the nonsense blaming tv military experts talking about “worthless Ukrainians” – well they ARE worthless and hopeless Ukrainians and the Ukraine is a hopeless state that fails at everything it does. The only reason they are still fighting is because of western intelligence and oversight, western propaganda control over the population AND because they themselves view their own soldiers as worthless to the point they aren’t interested in how many of them are dead.
Check Intel Slava. Lviv power is out. Strikes all over central & western Ukraine.
Great news. Finally. Lets hope russia will continue in this way

Missile STRIKES throughout Ukraine! Latest news and videos from the fronts (18 videos)
Right now, missile strikes are being carried out on Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, Vinnytsia, Kirovograd, Ternopil, Lviv and Odessa regions. 5 missiles, explosions on the territory of the military unit flew through Lviv.
Maybe they bomb 155mm shells? The Pentagon reported that a batch of 155-mm shells to the M777 howitzers arrived in Ukraine.
Russian special services and the FSB in the Kherson and Zaporozhye regions, according to British intelligence, have established full control over Internet servers and monitor any outgoing information. All activists will be arrested, and any protests will be severely suppressed.
Military equipment of the Ukrainian army will be repaired and modernized at Slovak defense enterprises, said a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Defense of Slovakia.
Interesting from the evening report of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. In the areas of the settlements of Mykolaivka, Volcheyarovka and Lysychansk, three Ukrainian radar stations for illuminating and guiding anti-aircraft missile systems S-300 were destroyed – this is a great success. One Tochka-U launcher, the OSA-AKM anti-aircraft missile system and three Grads and three radars were destroyed. Near Izyum, 9 Smercha missiles were intercepted.

There is no chance of survival: General Patrushev told three main secrets
.
Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev told Rossiyskaya Gazeta in an interview what will happen to Ukraine and Russia and why the West expects an inglorious end. A few days before him, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov spoke on this topic in an interview with Channel One. Thus, the course of President Vladimir Putin to liberate Russia from Western dictate and economic slavery is gaining momentum and is acquiring interesting details. Read about them below.
When a statesman of such caliber as Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of the Security Council of Russia, gives a programmatic interview at the time of the global crisis, which was spurred by the events around Ukraine, this is done for a reason. There can be nothing accidental in it, and it is worthy of studying it with a magnifying glass. The interview with General of the Army Patrushev, who enjoys the full confidence of President Vladimir Putin, sheds light on what awaits Russia and the world, how the Ukrainian crisis will end. The last topic, although private, is currently the most relevant. Therefore, Patrushev’s first answer to the question asked by Rossiyskaya Gazeta about what he thinks about the US plans to defeat Russia in the Second Cold War is dedicated to her. Very revealing
Why Ukraine should disappear?
In an attempt to suppress Russia, – Patrushev emphasized, – the Americans, using their proteges in Kyiv, decided to create an antipode of our country, cynically choosing Ukraine for this, trying to divide an essentially single people. Finding no positive basis to win Ukrainians over to its side, Washington, long before the 2014 coup d’état, instilled in Ukrainians the exclusivity of their nation and hatred for everything Russian. However, history teaches that hatred can never become a reliable factor in national unity. If anything today unites the peoples living in Ukraine, it is only the fear of the atrocities of the nationalist battalions. Therefore, the result of the policy of the West and the Kyiv regime under its control can only be the disintegration of Ukraine into several states.
From this quote at the very beginning of the interview, it is clearly seen that Russia’s minimum program is “the disintegration of Ukraine into several states.” Moscow has said this before or hinted at it, but this is the first time this has been done so abruptly and at such a level. It was, in particular, about the creation of Novorossia, Little Russia – in the orbit of the “Russian World”, a separate state in Western Ukraine, in the foreseeable future unfriendly to Russia, about very small formations in the form of new regional “people’s republics”. Patrushev’s clear statement on this point speaks to several important points in Russian politics. First, Ukraine is categorically unacceptable to Moscow within its current borders, even minus the Donbass, because they give rise to misplaced geopolitical ambitions heavily fueled by the West. Secondly, the dismantling of Ukraine will be achieved through denazification, because it, so different, is united only by the “atrocities of the Nazi battalions.” Answering another question, Patrushev explained why Ukraine must be liquidated without fail:
The special military operation has specific goals, the achievement of which depends not only on the well-being, but on the lives of millions of people, saving the population of the LPR and DPR from the genocide that Ukrainian neo-Nazis have been doing for 8 years. At one time, Hitler’s fascism dreamed of destroying the entire Russian population, and today its followers, according to Hitler’s precepts, are blasphemously trying to do this with the hands of the Slavs. Russia will not let this happen. Speaking of denazification, our goal is to destroy the foothold of neo-Nazism created by the efforts of the West at our borders. The need for demilitarization is due to the fact that Ukraine, saturated with weapons, poses a threat to Russia, including from the point of view of the development and use of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons.
That is, and thirdly, for Moscow, an irresponsible country, oversaturated with weapons, imprisoned by the West for a war with Russia, is completely unacceptable at its side.
Are the goals of the special operation “far-fetched”?
In response to the question whether the United States could really orchestrate such provocations in Ukraine, Patrushev was merciless:
You are talking about a country whose elite is not capable of appreciating other people’s lives. Americans are used to walking on scorched earth. Ever since the Second World War, entire cities have been wiped off the face of the earth by bombings, including nuclear ones. They flooded the Vietnamese jungle with poison, bombed the Serbs with radioactive munitions, burned the Iraqis alive with white phosphorus, and helped the terrorists poison the Syrians with chlorine. I do not think that the lives of Ukrainians are of concern to the United States, which has repeatedly proved its aggressive anti-human nature. As history shows, NATO has also never been a defensive alliance, but only an offensive one.
Thus, it becomes obvious that the disaggregation of Ukraine alone is not enough for Moscow. None of its main components should continue to be a springboard for neo-Nazism and a breeding ground for all kinds of security threats, which the West skillfully uses to weaken Russia. So the goals of the Russian special operation in Ukraine are not at all “far-fetched” – they are completely real, have existential significance for Russia.
The United States destroys Europe and not only Ukraine:
Patrushev showed by the example of other countries, primarily European ones, what would happen if Washington succeeded in drawing its line on Ukraine:
Europe is facing a deep economic and political crisis for their countries. Rising inflation and declining living standards are already affecting the wallets and moods of Europeans. In addition, large-scale migration adds new challenges to old security threats like drug trafficking and transnational crime. Almost five million Ukrainian migrants have already arrived in Europe. In the near future, their number will grow to ten million. The majority of Ukrainians who came to the West believe that Europeans should support and provide for them, and when they are forced to work, they begin to rebel.
But that’s not all. As the de facto head of the Russian intelligence community, Patrushev knows well what he is talking about: “Representatives of the criminal community who escaped from Ukraine will try to occupy niches that are profitable for them, to put local criminal groups under control, which will undoubtedly be accompanied by a complication of the criminogenic situation in Europe. Such a widespread business as the sale of orphans taken out of Ukraine for subsequent illegal adoption in Europe will also receive a “new breath”. The West is already faced with the revival of the shadow market for the purchase of human organs from the socially vulnerable segments of the population of Ukraine for underground transplantation operations for European patients.” In addition, according to him, “only a tenth of the refugees from Ukraine have been vaccinated against coronavirus infection, viral hepatitis, tuberculosis, rubella and measles. European countries, according to the Secretary of the Security Council of Russia, are threatened not only by Ukraine:
Against the backdrop of anti-Russian sanctions, the world is gradually plunging into an unprecedented food crisis. Tens of millions of people in Africa or the Middle East, through the fault of the West, will be on the verge of starvation. To survive, they will rush to Europe. I’m not sure that Europe will survive the crisis. Political institutions, supranational associations, economy, culture, traditions can become a thing of the past.” Patrushev warned that “Europe will still bite its elbows, and America will be freed from its main geopolitical fear – the political and economic union of Russia and Europe.
The West made a bet on Nazism
Patrushev revealed a frightening phenomenon that Tsargrad has been writing about for a long time – the nazification of Europe with the involvement of Nazis from Ukraine: “Europe is already facing the activation of officially prohibited manifestations of fascism and neo-Nazism, as, together with migrants from Ukraine, criminals fed by Bandera with neo-Nazi views are fleeing from inevitable criminal prosecution . This will lead to a revival of Nazi ideas in Europe, to manifestations that not so long ago were considered impossible. The growth of ultra-right sentiments, fueled by tens of thousands of trained and combat-experienced Ukrainian radicals, who have already found a common language with Hitler’s European fans, is not ruled out.
According to Patrushev, fascism and Nazism have long been an instrument of the Anglo-Saxons in order to establish their dominance in the world, the West not only “does not see” them when it is beneficial for it, but also actively contributes, when necessary, to building up their power, as, for example, in the case with Hitler’s Germany, and Bandera’s Ukraine.
America has long divided the whole world into vassals and enemies. In the United States, from childhood, people are driven into their heads that America is a shining city on a hill, and the rest of humanity is just a testing ground for experiments and a resource appendage. Four hundred years ago, immigrants from England robbed and killed Indians because they considered them uncivilized savages. Now all this has been replaced by democratization and human rights rhetoric and piracy continues on a global scale. The American elites remember how the United States managed to become a superpower after two world wars, and now they do not want to accept the fact that the American global empire is in its death throes, – said the secretary of the Russian Security Council.
Why will Russia defend originality and traditional values?
Answering the question whether the collapse of the American-centric world is a reality, Patrushev answered in the affirmative, adding that in these conditions Russia “needs to live and build an optimal course of action”, which provides for “every possible defense of its sovereignty, firm upholding of national interests, cultural and spiritual identity, traditional values and historical memory”. Only this will help us “remain ourselves, be honest with our ancestors, preserve the individual, society and the state.” The Europeans, Patrushev stated with regret, made a different choice, meaning that “Europe and European civilization have no future.”
The Secretary of the Security Council announced the sovereignization of the national financial system, the means of payment of which “should have intrinsic value and price stability, without being tied to the dollar.” He announced the development of a project to create a “two-circuit monetary and financial system”, which means that the ruble should be backed by both gold and a group of goods that are currency values, which will bring its rate in line with real purchasing power parity. Patrushev is convinced that “the most important condition for ensuring the economic security of Russia is reliance on the country’s internal potential, the structural restructuring of the national economy on a modern technological basis.”
The tasks and priorities have been set absolutely correctly, and we will continue to implement them. Another thing is that it is necessary to significantly tighten the discipline of their implementation, including among the relevant departments, he added.
And other tasks
Here are a few more directions outlined by Patrushev for the development of Russia in the face of confrontation with the West:
– expanding the range of domestic high-tech products;
– science becomes the leading productive force, one of the locomotives of the country’s development;
– reorientation to the Asian, African and Latin American markets;
– building up cooperation with the BRICS and SCO countries, uniting about three and a half billion people;
– upholding traditional spiritual and moral values, reforming the system of education and enlightenment with the return of the historically justified advantages of the national school. In particular, the development of the applied application of fundamental sciences, “it is necessary to pay more attention to the development of logical thinking, to form stable knowledge and the ability to make independent decisions, and not just put crosses in tests.”
In conclusion, Patrushev called the key to “guaranteed successful development of Russia” “the development of personal intellectual and spiritual qualities,” since “properly brought up, comprehensively educated, physically and morally healthy children who know and understand the history and culture of their homeland” – this is wealth and the future of Russia. And it’s not just words. And the statement that the fight against the West is not a currently fashionable campaign, situationally caused by the ugly behavior of the former “partners”, but a long-term development strategy for a country that has turned its back on the West, which has become toxic, hovering over the abyss for its own good.
So what?
In the dry residue we have the following. Patrushev’s interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta, as well as the extensive, similar in content interview of Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov to Channel One on about the same topic, which appeared a few days ago, speak of a change in Russia’s course, the very fact of which leaves Ukraine no chance. As well as the West, by the way, to win the war of attrition with Russia, which has finally decided to break with its vile “world order”. There is no way back. Russia expects prosperity ahead, the West – a phenomenal collapse. With what we can congratulate each other.

Many thanks for a well posted report from Comrade Gen. Patrushev.
He’s reading into the future, advancing the worldview that Russia is fighting for.
Well thought out, precisely defined.
Also, thanks for the report on Kazakhstan, which seems to be caught in a deja vu a la Belarus. It looks like they were not shaken enough with the recent coup orchestrated by the West/Mossad. They are not walking on a clear path to the future.

Thank you Patrick for sharing this informative article. The Russian people and the youth are being guided in the right direction. It is admirable when a government leads its people based on the principles of truth. Sadly it has become a rare occurrence specially in western nations. Russia is a beacon of hope for us all.
Patrick Laforet, thank you very much for posting. So far the best outlook as it suggests the best case scenario and brings happiness and confidence in the future in a sober way. I suggest that in about 15 years, years after the victory, Russia will be regarded by the whole world as a great model of a rich civilization. A self-sufficient powerhouse open to win-win partnerships with whoever wants it. I hope the victory has become the great victory of Europe and Eurasian cooperation, the “heartland” needs to fulfill its natural destiny as soon as possible.

Ya…..The Russian economy will implode any day now!!
Kazakhstan risks repeating Ukrainian mistakes
.
The President of Kazakhstan said about the danger of “language patrols” in the republic-nationalist groups that tested Russian-speaking citizens for their knowledge of the Kazakh language. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev considered such patrols “a provocation of the special services.” Who could actually be behind the creation of these groups and to whom is the statement of the Kazakh leader addressed?
The organization of “language patrols” and cases of discrimination are aimed at undermining national unity, President of the Republic Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said on Friday.By the Assembly of the People Kazakhstan. According to him, it is unacceptable that external conflicts that have been and will continue to be used to incite interethnic discord and form fault lines among Kazakhstanis.
“All these actions are organized by professional provocateurs acting on the instructions of professional services or special services. All these actions are called active activities in the language of professional special services. Unfortunately, they have a place in our country, ” Tokayev explained. However, he did not specify what kind of “external conflicts” he is talking about and whose special services are Kazakh or foreign.
According to Tokayev, provocateurs, no matter where they live, no matter what passports they hide behind, “should not and will not be able to undermine our unity, the right of our state to pursue an independent policy.” “Due to its history and ethnic specifics, Kazakhstan remains a multilingual state, and this is our plus, our asset,” the head of state stressed.
“Now there are practically no language patrols in Kazakhstan – the vast majority of them disappeared after the authorities sent part of the leadership of the National Security Committee (KNB) to jail following the January protests,” Marat Shibutov, a member of the National Council of Public Trust under the President of Kazakhstan, told VZGLYAD newspaper. “By the way, this suggests who organized these anti-Russian projects.”
According to the expert, after the arrest of the top of the National Security Committee in the country in general, the number of nationalist activists, including “fighters” against everything Russian, has sharply decreased. “The language patrols have lost, let’s say, centralized management. If they occasionally appeared, it was an initiative on the ground on the part of the “hotheads”. Tokayev’s words serve as a warning so that no one else will think to continue this vicious practice, ” the analyst noted. Now the Russian-speaking community, according to Shibutov, enjoys all rights on an equal footing with the titular ethnic group, so that there are no interethnic problems left – “everything is quiet.”
.
Recall that in August last year, the press reported that nationalists organized a check on the use of the Kazakh language at trade and public catering facilities. In particular, the founder of the YouTube channel Til Maydani Kuat Akhmetov published a series of videos about “language raids” that caused a public outcry. The footage shows conflicts that arose due to the fact that the sellers did not serve him and other customers in the state language.
First Deputy head of the Presidential Administration Dauren Abayev later said that it was unfair to talk about the infringement of the Russian language in the republic against the background of the situation with the so-called language patrols, but he called such precedents outrageous. Kazakh law enforcement agencies opened a criminal case against Akhmetov under the article on inciting “social, national, tribal, racial, class or religious discord”. He faced up to seven years in prison. After that, Akhmetov fled to Ukraine, the portal reported “”The Russian Interior Ministry banned Akhmetov from entering our country for 50 years, and his YouTube channel was blocked.
The language issue is not the only thing that overshadows the partnership between Moscow and Nur-Sultan. In early April, first deputy head of the Tokayev administration Timur Suleimenov, while in Brussels on a visit, said that Kazakhstan refuses to help Russia circumvent the sanctions imposed by Western countries. And in mid-April, the Ministry of Defense of Kazakhstan announced its refusal to hold a parade on May 9. And, as if by coincidence, at that moment the US Deputy Secretary of State Uzra Zeya was visiting the republic.
Language patrols in Kazakhstan have been almost unheard of lately, but problems in relations with Russia remain, says Vladimir Lepekhin, Director General of the Moscow Institute of EurAsEC and a former State Duma deputy. “In Kazakhstan, there is still an attitude that is not spelled out anywhere: do not take Russians into power, do not take any managerial positions, and do not promote Russian – speaking businesses. This is an axiom. Therefore, even for simple positions, a Russian cannot pass if there is a Kazakh candidate for the same position, ” the source complained.
According to the expert, such infringement of rights is manifested at the domestic level in almost any sphere. “If the Russian-speaking community had been more active, for example, it would have obtained an official investigation into cases of discrimination against Russian public figures or businessmen. If such cases were made public, then we would at least see the reaction of the Kazakh authorities and draw further conclusions. In the meantime, nothing changes. In general, this line is typical for almost the entire post-Soviet space. International domestic policy is conducted only by Russia, ” the analyst noted, recalling similar mistakes and problems in Ukraine over the past decade.
As for Tokayev’s statements, Lepekhin sees this as nothing more than a diplomatic gesture timed to coincide with a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart, which became known shortly after Tokayev’s speech at the Assembly.
“This is a kind of safety net so as not to enter into an unpleasant discussion with Moscow, and not to inflame passions in the republic itself.
But this statement by Tokayev is unlikely to be followed by a rapprochement. Such rhetoric is aimed exclusively at an external audience, primarily at Russia. In case of any inter-ethnic escalation, Tokayev will also tell Moscow: “You do remember that I’m against all of this, right?” – suggested the political scientist.
As reported by the newspaper VZGLYAD, on Friday Tokayev held a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, discussing the expansion of trade and economic cooperation and work within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). InThe Kremlin stressed that the leaders confirmed their ” determination to fully strengthen the Russian-Kazakh relations of alliance and strategic partnership.” According to the press service of the Kazakh head of state, Tokayev thanked Putin for inviting him to the CSTO anniversary summit in mid-May in Moscow.
At the same time, as TASSreports, the press secretary of the Russian leader Dmitry Peskov said that the presidents did not discuss the issue of Kazakhstan’s withdrawal from the EAEU Customs Union. “No,” Peskov told reporters, answering a question about whether such a topic was on the agenda.
As he writes “Newspaper.”, rumors about Kazakhstan’s withdrawal from the common space emerged in the media space after the start of the Russian operation in Ukraine. Some Kazakh experts also began to call for this. For example, political scientist Dosym Satpayev called for withdrawing from the EAEU, speaking at the international forum CFO Summit 2022.

Please BOYCOTT PayPal, everyone! They have just “frozen” funds belonging to two independent media sites critical of NATO (Consortium News and MintPress). Very obvious case of press censorship…
https://sputniknews.com/20220503/i-thought-id-never-see-it-paypal-seizes-funds-of-independent-media-without-offering-explanation-1095244405.html
Consortium News and MintPress news are independent media outlets that have challenged NATO’s narrative on the ongoing Ukraine crisis.
Paypal has frozen the accounts of Consortium news and MintPress news and may seize the funds of independent media voices in a chilling example of corporate-enforced censorship.
Consortium News, MintPress and various independent journalists have recently received notice that their Paypal accounts are frozen, and they are no longer allowed to use the platform. According to the notice, the funds contained within the accounts may be returned after 180 days.
But, according to Consortium News Editor in Chief Joe Lauria, who spoke to a Paypal employee, if Paypal determines that there was a violation, some or all of the $9,348.14 may be seized by Paypal as “damages.”

Still no SitRep or any comments from Nightvision. That’s too bad. I hope he’s OK and also hope he wasn’t offended by a few very negative comments made by a few board regulars.
Seems like Russia escalated things within the past 12 hours.
There will be a slow squeeze until the opponent taps out or loses consciousness
hold tight, only been a couple days since the last sitrep. The sitreps surely do take a quite a bit of time and effort to put together which nightvision has been doing a fantastic job. I’ll bet he’s laughing off the neggies. Reality is reality. Thank you for Bringing It nightvision!!! All the best
It is now becoming increasingly clear that thr ‘West’ (USA UK EU and Canada) have well and truly created a monster in Zelensky and his Team. Today Ukraine’s Foreign Minister called Olaf Schulz an offended liverwurst’ clearly forgetting that not so many weeks ago they completely refused for him to go to Kiev for a meeting. That same FM has also said the only Treaty the Ukraine will sign with Russia is total capitulation on the Russian side. Zelensky complained bitterly that Gutteres should have visited him in Kiev first before meeting with President Putin. Zelensky has defended the Azov Battalions, he supports Mayors in various regions to kill and massacre Ukranians who are pro-Russian (Nikolaev is an example). No trial, no justice, no detention, just shoot them. He consistently refuses requests from his Battalions and Senior Officers to surrender in utterly hopeless situations. He has refused to engage with the Humanitarian Corridors. The list is endless. He has no demanded that the USA pay the Ukraine 7bn Euros a month to pay the salaries of the Civil Service and other services and an extortionate amount of money for the supply of military arms. I dare say a lot of it is lining the pockets of himself and his Team. He has no interest at all in the Ukraine or the Ukrainian people, just himself. Lavrov said in his recent interview that Zelenksy will continue to request arms and money from the West because without it he’s finished in the Ukraine. If Putin had insulted Schulz in that manner my goodness, we would never hear the end of it from which now, there is no going back. The West has created the worse monster imaginable and now they are unable to control it because to do so would cause them to lose serious face over the completely hysterical reaction at the outset of this. There is not one Statesmen in the West that even matches President Putin. There must be one President out there (apart from Orban) that is willing to speak out and try to negotiate a settlement. Russia’s demands are not unreasonable. That the West is willing to destroy their economies, the livelihood of its citizens and their infrastructure for the sake of supporting the Nazi Government in the Ukraine is quite frankly, unbelievable given that many of those countries were occupied by German Troops in WW11. The USA Government is now so desperate it is well and truly out of control. They are now talking about putting missiles in Japan with which to attack China. They have threatened Nicaragua because they do not like the result of the elections there and so it goes on. On the plus side, the dollar took a bit of a nosedive against the Rouble today. Russia seems to me to have perfect, absolutely perfect timing to their strategies. Today President Putin signed an Act that has frozen US$ 500bn held in Russia which caused the dollar to drop. Just when the USA are going to send US$billions of pounds to the Ukraine in military equipment with the USA economy in tatters, this has had a real impact. I daresay the UK will be next. I also note that the UN Security Council is going to convene an urgent meeting to discuss the Ukraine. There are reports that the Russian Allied Forces have significantly ramped up air and land attacks around many areas in the Ukraine not just the Donbass. It’s all beautifully timed. The West financially is in a mess now because of their ridiculous Sanctions. Now, is there another intelligent Statesman in the West who is willing to stand up for what is right and negotiate what needs to be negotiated. I can only think of Orban. I’m not sure about Erdogan but I think he is genuinely intent on trying to achieve some breakthrough in negotiations. He’s doing, all around, a good job I think given the competing interests around him. I want to give him credit where it’s due. I just wonder when the EU is going to come to its senses. It is quite obvious Von der Leyen is a serious visceral Russophobe which is really preventing her from being objective and impartial. When you think that before this, only a couple of months before this, with the release of the Panama/Pandora Papers showing that the Ukraine Government is probably the most corrupt in Europe if not the world and there were real concerns mounting about the Nazis in Government and the Azov’s troops actions against civilians to now when the West is now actively supporting the Nazis and the needless and senseless obliteration of the UAF Armed forces it beggars belief. Putin seems to be the only one who is thinking clearly, strategically and rationally.
Exactly.

Anybody know anything about this?
“Putin to undergo cancer surgery, transfer power to ex-FSB chief: report”
I’m inclined to regard it as fake news, but the video doesn’t look good.
This is truly a great site for information and analysis, and I am grateful to all those who contribute.
However, I do observe a great clamor for war, and urge to escalate among the comments. War is neither a joke nor entertainment. Putin and his advisers have done a masterful job to date against the entire West – militarily, economically and geopolitically. And by “West”, I mean not only the US, NATO, the EU, but all the international structures and instruments by which they maintain hegemony and mercilessly strangle any nation which dares to disobey.
It gets a bit tiresome this second guessing. Without exaggeration, the fact remains the future of not only the World, but that of the planet is at stake. I thank God someone as wise and patient as Putin is in the Kremlin and a strong, equally patient and visionary like Xi Peng is leading China and fully supporting him.
Three things basically tell me that things are going very well in this SMO: the ruble-dollar exchange rate, the calm and sober tone of the Russian side vs the exact opposite from the West (i.e., complete confusion and incoherence), and the litany of lies and ever changing stories from the MSM in desperate attempts to rescue their narrative.
The West is doing itself more harm right now by it’s own actions. It is self-destructing at many levels. Russia must act with integrity and proper restrain towards a multipolar world, and avoid becoming like the Anglo-Americans in their nuking, fire-bombing, turning to ruble of entire cities and countries.
With respect to turning off the energy supplies to the West, it serves Russia much better to break the hegemony of the US dollar by selling gas in rubles at high market prices than letting ordinary civilians already mislead and screwed by their elites to freeze to death.
Very well said I agree with Russia’s calculated, disciplined approach as well. Indeed I would not be here if Russia’s tactics were savage like the west.
Goldprice.com says 1gr of gold today is $59.95. 5k rubles (aka 1gr of gold) exchanges for $73.14 (from xe.com). This means that whoever buys physical gold on western markets and sells it to Russia can earn $13.19!?! That is 22% profit right there! Would this put a pressure on physical gold price correction in western markets? I cannot see how it will not. There should be even greater de-coupling between paper and physical gold price.
Net effect = Increases the gold reserves of Russian Government

Couple Of Media Points.
1. Larry Johnson posted yesterday a very good piece from his friend on Maskirovka and deception in Operation Z.
Deception. The Soviets were probably the greatest masters of battlefield deception that there has ever been. I recommend David Glantz’s book for those who want to make a real study of it and for those who want a shorter introduction I suggest this essay (“one is awed by the magician’s illusions of objects disappearing and appearing”). Some in the West may remember D-Day’s ghost army but, as far as I know, this was the only time the Western Allies did deception on this scale. As the references above make clear, the Soviets did deception operations on this scale all the time – dummy vehicles, faked tank tracks, silent movement, lights moving at night, loudspeakers making engine noises, feint attacks, radio traffic, carefully encouraging the enemy to see what he wanted to see; as House says, they almost always fooled the Germans. And not just then – the 1939 attack at Khalkhin Gol stunned the Japanese – “we had no prior clue“. One may be certain that the Russian Army has inherited this talent.
Read the whole thing at Larry’s blog–it is excellent.
2. The Hill, ever neocon and exceptionalist rag, suddenly was afflicted by a bout of clarity and in an opinion piece concluded:
The unprecedented U.S.-led Western sanctions against Russia have been likened to economic weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) that would ultimately destroy the Russian economy. In reality, the sanctions are like a double-edged sword — they inflict pain on Russia but also impose costs on their imposers. The West, in fact, is caught in a trap: The sanctions and the deepening conflict, by helping to raise global commodity and energy prices, translate into higher revenues for Moscow in spite of a significant decrease in its exports. And the higher international prices, by fueling inflation, mean political trouble at home for those behind the sanctions.
No shit, geniuses. How about learning what actual economy is and how it operates. The author also makes another discovery.
Look at another paradox: Despite Russia being cut off from the world’s financial arteries, the Russian ruble has dramatically recovered through state intervention. But, as if to signal that Japan is paying a price for following the U.S. lead on Russia, the Japanese yen (the world’s third-most-traded currency) has sunk to a 20-year low against the U.S. dollar, ranking this year as the worst performing of the 41 currencies tracked — worse than the ruble.
In general, Russophobia is being made by Russia a very expensive luxury. But the author DOES give a sensible explanation on why Operation Z proceeds the way it proceeds.
Biden’s belief that “this war could continue for a long time” is backed by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley, who testified that he expects it to last years. But as the conflict drags on and the boomerang effects of the sanctions deepen the cost-of-living crisis, the divides in the Western camp will widen and “Ukraine fatigue” will set in. The West will be left with little choice but to negotiate with Putin to end the conflict, as predicted by Javier Solana, a former NATO chief who also served as Spain’s foreign minister. Such negotiations will be vital to halt Ukraine’s destruction and avert Europe from paying the main price.
You see, Russia CAN afford to be methodical and deliberate in her demilitarization of Ukraine, the West cannot–it simply doesn’t have time. And that is the difference, a strategic one, between real economy and a virtual one. Nobody cares what Biden believes or what kind of, traditionally wrong, forecasts all those D.C. think-tanks produced, the reality “on the ground” has its own mind and those who do not understand it are bound to fail. Of course news like this:
China Calls Out U.S. Dollar Dominance As It Buys Russian Coal With Yuan
also send shivers down the spines of many in D.C. because all that is just the unfolding spectacle of the destruction of the US Dollar dominance. You see, one cannot accuse me of Russian rah-rah, all what I posted here is taken from the US sources. Repeat after me–reality is a bitch.

‘one cannot accuse me’……Larry’s friend Patrick perhaps……hmm? Well, in time of war many writers use synonyms.

All of the armchair Generals complaining about Russian inaction need to consider reality.
It appears that Russia delayed the SMO until after the winter olympics as a courtesy to China. This deprived Russia of the opportunity to invade during the coldest part of winter when the ground was frozen. Frozen ground is almost ideal for tank warfare.
Now we are in Spring. It is raining. The ground is thawing. The Ukrainian has become a heaving mass of shit that tanks dare not cross except on roads. Ukraine has awful roads. Manauvere warfare is impossible.
Give it another month or two and the ground will be dry. Tanks and other vehicles will be able to roam freely. Interestingly; the Battle of Kursk occurred in July at the peak of summer.
As an added bonus, Ukrainian fuel reserves are being destroyed or depleted. A few feints here then there compels Ukraine to keep redeploying forces, exhausting its fuel supplies.
Open thread so I’m gonna say my faith is still strong and even stronger in Russia being the new light of the world for righteousness, respect, honor, God fearing, equity, and self respect. And true freedom and rights.
America has failed and her light is dimming. The remainder of the west also the light only is a flicker of waht maybe was long ago.
Russia surly is not perfect but there’s evidence of those good righteous qualities stated above and as one the great time says there is no other or something to tnat point. Yes I truly believe Russia is the new light of the world, the country the world will be bless of God by.
Sadly America everyday becomes even more wicked and depraved. Just today on npr the programming was focused on the lgbt candidates in office and those running for office this coming election cycle. We as a nation now it’s clear and should be viable to all, America now is the cursed nation. Only my humble opinion, God only knows and is the one who holds our fate in His hand. But looking arou d it does not look promising to think that the blessing of God is upon our nation.
For those who don’t know yet do so e self searching, research, and see the evil of the jewish people among us and ruling over so much of our lives. Reject that thought and fear of anti semitism. It’s propoganda. Remember tney will always tell us what happened to them but not why. Look and see, tbey are the ones satan is working through to destroy so much good and righteousness in this world.
Muslims, muslim friends, yes I call you friends becuase of all the ones I’ve known and be true ds with you are honorable and respectful peoples. Very much respect your faith and commitment to God. I will trust God will to be done in the eternity issue of salvation. So many of my fellow Christians always say God will save the jews when Christ returns. Well I believe Christ will save many upon return many will then know truth and Lord will ing believe.
And to you Christians who bow down and worship the jews, please pray and open your eyes and hearts, we Christians by Cbrist are chosen. Yes isreal is imporatant but ask yourself where Christ or Paul the Apostle or John ever said about isreal and blessing the jews ignoring their treachery.
God bless us all. Continue praying for mother Russia and President Putin. I am not Russian but I am in spirit.
GLORY to God Glory to Russia Glory to a new world light amen
I am astounded by the clamour of the gung-ho mob baying for blood in this thread and surprised they have not volunteered yet to join the fray and feast on the carnage.
While I am not a pacifist – which I proved not to be when I incited the Kremlin to extirpate Ukranazism in 2014, to no avail – I am not a fly in the General-Staff HQ wall either to advise the top brass how to do their job.
It should be clear to all customers here that Russia is not at war with Ukraine; the battle now is taking place in the Ukraine but the enemy Sauron is elsewhere hiding in Mordor (US).
I have already hinted that there is a kind of Maskirovka at work, details of which I refuse to divulge here on pain of being accused of being the fly on the wall. You work it out yourselves for amusement and learning something about strategy. Good luck.
After pressing the post button I read Lone Wolf’s comment above where, by another strange coincidence when I proffer words of wisdom (!!!), he had anticipated my play and struck first: he let the Maskirovka cat out of the bag.
But I’m grateful he did not trespass discretion and give the game away.
Cheers!
Please go on. Seriously I’m curious what you are saying and think you should share more with us. Wnat are you talking about? Speak up please. You claim understanding so please enlighten us.
I think there has been too much input on here for the last two months, it#s my opinion only, nobody needs to get uppity, it’s a great blog.
It’s a question of a volume that cannot be absorbed, and no slant on very fine individual authored contributors.
The effect of this on the one hand is distractive, lowering concentration and the ability to process, and on the other hand, lowering ethical standards, as too much of anything, not only food and drink, is harmful.
Life progresses best through balances,a virtue approach unpopular today.
So; many comments repeat the same information, of course, it is impossible to read everything presented.
High info volume blurs and weakens the power and advantage of comments expressive of experience and depth of knowledge.
Important leads, thoughts, analysis, that may take a bit more time to consider, get overlooked or forgotten, which tends to fostering detrimental, harmful outcomes. It’s life!
It’s not the blog, it’s the world that is spinning rather fast these days 🥵
@ Pennsylvania Chuck
I have already hinted at it on previous occasions with sufficient double-entendres for working out a cogent narrative for the ongoing plan of operations.
I’m not a clairvoyant or crystal ball reader nor have I insider knowledge – and I am not a genius either – and anybody with thinking brains can work out that the Russian High Command is not conducting a frontal (you could say up-front) war, hence the Maskirovka.
I’m not saying any more and do not want to reveal what could be a potential military state secret (!!!) although I believe the NATO thinktanks are probably on it among other alternative interpretations.
I had some military training in intelligence/reconnaissance and experience in brain-storming sessions to deduce what the enemy was up to and thwart his plans. But it was a low-level tactical setting at battalion strength not the multidisciplinary approach to large scale armed conflict with political, diplomatic, economic and military vectors.
It may appear outlandish to compare the current situation with previous continental-size wars but all the ingredients are there. I have been researching some aspects of the Napoleonic Wars, especially the Peninsula War, but the whole conflict – which involved near all European countries could be summarised as an Anglo-French war spanning 25 years for global domination. Then, the English (maritime power, now US) saw the upstart French Republic (continental power, now Russia) as a potential competitor to its hegemony and engendered a web of coalitions (NATO) and sanctions to prevent the emergence of a rival (Wolfowitz Doctrine). Ditto WWI (England v Germany) and WWII, the last complicated by the late interloper and the shift to new axis but Europe remaining as the main battlefield.
I’m not trying to stir up rumors, but I’m very curious about the fact that this Canadian general is the second general that has been the subject of a story of capture. The story about the American general Roger Cloutier kind of disappeared, but so has he. The idea he’d been captured was widely poo-pooed by the West, but it would be really easy to truly poo-poo it by his giving a few words to the press. He hasn’t been visible since the story, and NATO has now shuffled their top generals, with someone new in the job Cloutier had. I find that and his failure to make a public appearance, however brief, interesting.
Has anyone heard anything more about Cloutier? Is it possible that Moscow is sitting on a ‘treasure trove’ of generals?
He’s dead. If he was the highest ranking Yank at Avozstal, then he was going out on the first helo Evac. My guess, he was on the one the crashed at sea. Otherwise he and his name would still be in play. He may have been injured
and died down in the hole even.
Cheers M
@sean
Very Good point. I wonder if at some point, there will be an effort to either explore the wreckage or bring it up.
Then again, it is very likely the RF already knows who was on that chopper. There is no need at this time to publicly say.
Natural gas price record highest in USA. $7,88 per MMBTU. Dutch market future prices for May more than 97 € per MWh.
In 1 April price for British consumers rose 54%.The next price check time will be 1 Oct 2022. There seems to be no cheap gas price period during the summer because everybody is worried about reserves for next winter. Official EU consumer prices not published but most likely now around 150 €/1000 KWh in most EU 27 +UK.
Market spot price of electicity in many European countries has risen 100, 150 even 200% since last May. On average market price still mostly near 200 €/MWh. For instance Finns made 2 year conracts with price of 4,5-5 snt/KWh in spring of 2021. Now lowest price 11 snt/KWh and outside top 5 lowest around 14 snt/KWh. Then to grid owner people have to pay 3 snt/KWh, 2.7 snt/KWh tax and winter day time 8-9 snt/KWh. So during next winter the daytime price will be with taxes total 22-25 snt/KWh and even night time 16-19 snt. In mid 1990’s Finns got their electricity even during winter day paying just 48 pennies which is little bit over 8 snt/KWh. During night time and summer only 3 snt/KWh.
So annual price of electricity in Finland has risen from mid 1990’s around 4 snt to 18-21 snt/KWh. Even reducing 1,5% annual inflation the rise has been staggering 200 – 250%. Most of rise has happened since 2008 and caused by combination of Global Warming/Green Planet bullshit and anti Russia frenzy. There is looming danger that cheap energy related Finnish industry will leave whole country. Most if not all blame goes to stupid young generation politicians. People are paying now the the price of EU’s policy.
Is there any way of getting at (preferably downloading) this telegram video without registering for telegram on a smartphone (which I don’t want to do)? Some telegram links can be viewed in a browser, but some, such as the video mentioned above, say they can only be opened in telegram. I tried downloading Telegram for PC but it does not work without a linked and registered smartphone app.
I’m having a discussion on Twitter with some UAF fan who claims Russian air superiority is a myth and that Ukr ADS etc is thwarting Russian air force. Anyone shed light on this?
Almost any of the pro-Russian Telegram channels have ample proof that the RF is winning the air war.
Russians appear to have local air superiority in certain areas, that’s a far cry from theater wide Air Supremacy.
Kiev military is still flying the occaisional sortie. These few sorties are all but useless from a military perspective.
Yeah, I can. The UAF fanboy is an imbecile. Ignore him and don’t repeat his bullshit for the good of your mental health and ours.
Cheers.
yeh – I think I’ll go with that piece of advice thanks
One example of gap between green energy wet dream and reality comes ftom numbers of German electricity production, time 7 a.m 4th of May 2022:
wind energy: 1,64 GW (of capacity 64,2 GW)
coal: 21,8 GW
gas: 8,36 GW
Only 3,08% of needed electricity produced by wind mills.
Price: 224 €/MWh. Last evening price was 272 €/MWh.
Two days ago several ours German wind mills managed to produce less than 1% of its capacity. The whole wet dream of “energy wende” is becoming pure joke. The Kaiser Has No Clothes.
I have a question for contribuors to the blog.
The EoL is of the view that the SMO will drag on for years. How would they accomplish this given Russia has decimated half the UAF which has no mobility, a lack of useful weapons and no air cover, etc… ?
For years like WWII? Looks more like North Vietnam vs. South Vietnam.
I thought Biden would be better than Trump on foreign policy or more responsible. I couldn’t think it would be this much worse. Not sure how Trump might have reacted to the two Russian proposals. It’s hard to believe that he would have taken things as far as Biden has (maybe he would have been like the last to jump on board). Would he have said to Putin in private, “This is genius”?
The UK’s gas storage levels are “historically low,” according to Ofgem chief executive Jonathan Brearley.
“We have just 8.2 terawatt hours (TWh) of gas, according to Gas Infrastructure Europe. Compare that to Italy’s 71.1, Germany’s 64.3, France’s 26 TWh, and the Netherlands’ 28.9 TWh.
Many of these countries had at least double this amount of gas a few months ago. France, for instance, had 113.2 TWh – four times as much as it does now.
They’ve dipped into their reserves, which you can do during emergencies to ensure gas prices don’t skyrocket for customers – but only if you have sufficient storage levels.
But wait, maybe we don’t need as much gas as countries like the Netherlands?
Nope. We consume 512 TWh of gas per year, according to the government – 25% more than the Netherlands’ 408.67 TWh total, according to Dutch government data.
And when supply is low and demand stays the same, prices rise.
This is also true compared to other European countries, which are also suffering from a smaller than usual gas supply – but to nowhere near the extent of the UK.
And yet, the governments of France, Greece, Italy, and Spain have already intervened to reduce the cost of energy bills and slow the growing crisis.”
Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi has urged the EU to make key decisions by a qualified majority, rather than seeking unanimous consent of its member states. Draghi said that in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic and Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine, the EU must learn to work more robustly and effectively. “The geopolitical situation is undergoing rapid and profound change. We have to move, and move as quickly as possible,” Draghi told the European Parliament on Tuesday.
Well hopefully this will split Croatia Hungary and anyone else who has courage away from EU….otherwise majority consensus might lead to more direct conflict with Russia…..?
What a Hypocrite. He is not even elected himself.
Military expert Boris Rozhin with a brief summary of the results of the operation to denazify and demilitarize Ukraine at 12:00 on May 04, 2022, especially for the Voenkor Kotenok Z @voenkorKotenok channel :
1.
Mariupol.
After the evacuation of some civilians, massive artillery shelling and aerial bombardment of Azovstal continued. Sporadic breakthroughs to test for seepage from the plant site are stopped. A full-fledged assault on the plant is not being undertaken. The encircled were told that they would either surrender or be destroyed on the territory of Azovstal. There will be no corridors for them. Information about the capture of the Canadian general has not yet been verified.
2.
Zaporozhye.
There are no big changes on the Kamenskoye-Orekhov-Gulyaipole line. There were only battles south of Orekhov. There are also battles on the outskirts of Gulyai-Pole. To the east of Gulyaipole, fighting continues for various villages. There is no significant progress. The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine declares that the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are just probing the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and are accumulating a strike force, including at the expense of the troops released in Mariupol.
3.
Carbon.
On the line Novomikhailovka-Ugledar-Velikaya Novoselovka without significant changes. The RF Armed Forces entrenched themselves in the settlements south of Velikaya Novoselovka. The Ugledar fortified area continues to cover the Maryinka-Kurakhovo highway.
4.
Marinka.
There are no significant advances here. As before, the battles are going on in the area of the waste heap. The battles themselves are of a positional nature, especially since the enemy has the ability to throw reinforcements into Maryinka from the direction of Kurakhovo.
5.
Avdiivka.
In the Avdeevka industrial zone, medium-intensity battles continue without serious advances. To the north, fighting is going on at Novoselka-2 and Novobakhmutovka. The troops of the DPR managed to enter Troitskoye – fighting continues in the area of the village. Attempts to advance to New York from the east have not yet brought significant success. At the same time, the enemy continues to shell the settlements of the DPR – Donetsk, Makeevka, Yasinovataya, Yelenovka, etc. 122-152-mm cannon artillery, various types of MLRS + OTR “Tochka-U” are used.
6.
LPR.
Fighting continues in the industrial area of Rubizhne. Fighting also continues on the outskirts of Severodonetsk. In Popasna, the slow gnaw through of the fortified area of the Armed Forces of Ukraine continues. The pace of progress is low. The enemy has the ability to plant reserves here. Significant losses on both sides in Popasnaya. Both sides understand the operational value of Popasna, so the battle for the city is going on with unrelenting bitterness.
7.
Raisin.
Fighting continues north of the Barvenkovo-Slavyansk highway. It has not yet been possible to reach the highway, although it is already possible to carry out its fire defeat. The fighting is going on in the Kurulki-Pashkovo area. Fighting continues near Bolshaya Kamyshevakha. In the direction of Slavyansk, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, after the capture of Yampol, partially covered Krasny Liman, fighting is taking place on the outskirts of the city. The enemy is blowing up bridges and preparing a retreat to the next line of defense north of Slavyansk. In this direction, the Armed Forces of Ukraine continue to suffer the heaviest losses. The transfer of Volkssturm units here reflects the problem of the catastrophic loss of personnel in personnel brigades.
8.
Kharkov.
After an unsuccessful attempt to advance on Kazachya Lopan and the loss of two villages, the Armed Forces of Ukraine changed tactics and started fighting for Russkaya Lozovaya, where fighting continues to this day, and also carried out an attack in the direction of Stary Saltov, pushing a light curtain of LPR reservists. After the transfer of reinforcements, the front again moved south, but due to the lack of forces in this direction on both sides, tactical shifts in one direction or another are possible here in the future. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are also trying to establish crossings across the Seversky Donets in order to create a more serious threat to the flank of the Izyum grouping of the Armed Forces of Ukraine south of Volchansk. The main task of all these battles is to divert part of the forces of the RF Armed Forces from the Izyum direction through harassing operations against the open flank.
From the comfort of my position I must say these reports tend to support Lazar’s suggestion: “Many hoped with Phase 2 the correction would be introduced but the announced great phase 2 turned out to be a tuned up phase 1…….” and Cyric’s and a few others’ views….
A number of other comments correctly have highlighted the need to minimize damage to the cities, and to prevent civilian casualties,…But the fact is the current approach in key locations such as Rubizhne, Popasna,…has in fact destroyed these towns anyway. I dont see any merit in going house to house (in effect destroying them in the process and likely causing civilian casualties in addition to large Russian military losses, which tend to increase dissatisfaction in Russia if continued), instead of going all out and taking out a few sections of a given town. One sees many newly delivered (according to the Russian reports) NATO weapons and yet it is just now that bridges on the major river are being targeted. This just does not make any sense. The only thing that makes this comprehensible is some level of wishful thinking about how events might have proceeded on the ground, on the part of the planners. Doing something and hoping for the best and then having to step back and only then prepare for the worst. I have no idea why, but this is what it looks like from afar and could be very subjective.
There are several clouds in European energy transition project.
China’s CATL, one of the majors in the battery space, recently reported a drop in its first-quarter profit because of higher production costs. What this suggests is that the company has so far absorbed the cost increases caused by tightening raw material supply but how long it would continue to do this is an open question.
Meanwhile, the CEO of Rivian, the Amazon-backed EV startup, warned of a battery shortage in the EV space. And it was a grave warning: “Put very simply, all the world’s cell production combined represents well under 10% of what we will need in 10 years,” RJ Scaringe said, as quoted by the Wall Street Journal. “Meaning, 90% to 95% of the supply chain does not exist.”
One would think that at least with wind and solar, the supply chains are there and well developed. That may be the case; however, the metals needed to feed into these supply chains are in problematic supply, especially in Europe.
Like fossil fuels, Europe has little local mining production, so it is heavily dependent on imports. To make matters a lot more complicated for it, its main supplier of aluminum, nickel, and zinc is Russia. Almost all of the lithium and rare earths used in Europe are also sourced from abroad.
“The global energy transition is progressing faster than the mining project pipeline, with copper, cobalt, lithium, nickel, and rare earths all at risk of a disruptive demand pull between now and 2035,” said the authors of a study from Belgian KU Leuven University that warned Europe was facing a shortage of all the main ingredients of the energy transition.
With everything the people in the LDNR have suffered from the Ukrainian nazis from 2014,for 8 years, and continuing today. It is they that should be the heart of the denazification of the former Ukraine. First throughout the liberated territories. Then later in the rump of Ukraine. They more than any others have the personal incentive to root out nazi terrorists remaining in the former Ukraine. To see that unlike in the White Tiger film those groups never ever return in those lands. And they alone have had experience having to deal with those terrorist elements in the LDNR for 8 years now.The destruction of terrorist elements in the lands of the former Ukraine will be the most important action for the foreseeable future there. Unless that is done completely this time Russians will face this problem over and over again.
My opinion is that there are a lot of lessons that can be learned from the restructuring and pacification of Chechnya under Kadyrov that eliminated the terrorist threat there. And that keeps a steady hand preventing the return of those elements.Every once and a while a few weeds start to grow there, but they are quickly eliminated. And they will need to be eliminated just as quickly in the lands of the former Ukraine as well.
This article on RT looks to be a good start. But its only a start. And has to be worked on to completion:

This message could not be any clearer. The West has been warned continually. They continue, sadly and unwisely, to play with fire

But History Lass, it’s been two month and not one plane carrying weapons/howitzers/manpads/ammunition has been shot down. Why is that?
Lula’s normal way of looking at the Ukraine conflict:
“Zelensky, Biden share blame with Putin for Ukraine conflict – Lula”
https://www.rt.com/news/554986-biden-zelensky-putin-blame-lula/
Lula is the next president of Brazil. He showed the U.S. how it’s done. He would visit Iran and get his red-carpet treatment. Straight from Iran he would go to Israel and get his red-carpet treatment there too. Nobody complained, nobody criticized. ” ‘Cause you’ve got personality, charm, personality…”♬
Diesel prices hit yet another new record on Wednesday at $5.43 per gallon, now some $1.2 more than a gallon of gasoline, according to AAA.
While high prices at that pump for gasoline have somewhat leveled off, diesel continues to steadily rise, causing an increase in prices of consumer goods because it fuels the trucks that transport an estimated 70% of consumer goods freighted in the United States.
With diesel prices now up more than 75% from the year-ago average, Syracuse University supply chain expert Professor Patrick Penfield told New York’s WGRZ that there is usually a “correlation”.
“Every 10% that fuel prices go up there’s a point three percent increase in inflation. So that’s what consumers are going to see – you’re gonna keep seeing prices go up,” Professor Penfield said.
