I wish I could say that this throws us all back to the Cold War, and basically repeat the words Medvedev recently address to that drooling idiot Romney:
“As to ideological cliches, I have already spoken on the subject. I always get very cautious when I see a country resort to phrasings such as “number one enemy.” It is very reminiscent of Hollywood and certain period of history. I would advise two things to all US presidential candidates, including the person you just mentioned. My first advice is to listen to reason when they formulate their positions. Reason never harmed a presidential candidate. My other advice is to check their clocks from time to time: it is 2012, not the mid-1970s”
But having lived through the Cold War myself I have to honestly say that even during the Cold War we did not have such crude, illiterate, crass propaganda. Well, we did, but only in the overly “yellow” press. Not in a presumably reputable newspaper like The Guardian. No, what we see today is really much more reminiscent of the kind of propaganda Europe was flooded with before and during WWII.
It takes a special, “ideologically-roasted”, kind of militant cretinism to feel inspired, or even amused, by this kind of propaganda. Clearly a good part of our society is degenerating into a level a brute stupidity not unlike the one which got huge crowds of hysterical drones to cheer Hitler into power.
Is anybody else also bothered by this?
The Saker
Unfortunately the current major shareholder of the Guardian are Zionists. The paper has become openly pro Zionist/Israel.
“Clearly a good part of our society is degenerating into a level a brute stupidity not unlike the one which got huge crowds of hysterical drones to cheer Hitler into power.”
Fortunately, Putin has arranged matters so that Russia depends on the Anglosphere for very little.
The crude propaganda shows that the Anglosphere Foreign Policy Elite and Punditocracy know they have no leverage on Russia. The Russian government know that the AFPE&P will never do anything for them, and can’t really do anything to them.
And given the AFPE&P’s fixation on “leverage”, their lack of it regarding Russia drives them up a wall.
Its events like this that have me gameing a unilateral German/Russian raprochament following a disorderly unravelling of the Euro.
Ridiculous? Maybe, but since the current globalised capitalist system is clearly close to complete collapse, epoch-defining realignments are in the offing. It would be the beginnings of a third, multi-genrational round of the old ‘Great Game’ that had secure German access to energy supplies and short-lived alliances with Russia at their heart
There doesn’t seem to be quite as much anger directed at China which is a far more repressive state than Russia. Presumably China has too much economic leverage.
Apart from the Bolivarians in Latin America Russia and China are the only two powers independent of the Empire so it’s not surprising they are disliked. The New World Order is based on two pillars neoliberal capitalism as the only way to run the world and the violation of national sovereignty in the name of human rights. I don’t think the Russian and Chinese plutocracies offer much of an alternative to the first but they are definitely not keen on the second.
@Wikispooks:Its events like this that have me gameing a unilateral German/Russian raprochament following a disorderly unravelling of the Euro.

Short term to mid term yes. But long term? You might well be right for a least two reasons:
a) Germany needs Russian natural resources and the infrastructure to deliver them to Germany is already in place.
b) The Anglosphere (to use rkka’s expression) is the natural and historical enemy of both Russia and Germany.
to this I would add that as long as Germany is not ruled by Nazi lunatics and as long as Russia is not ruled by Bolshevik lunatics, Russia and Germany can together guarantee the stability and safety of Europe (France would also be a good candidate for such a European stability agreement).
But as long as all of Europe remains a subservient colony of the USA through NATO and the EU bureaucracy nothing will change as we can count on the Anglosphere to do all it can to sour relations between Europe and Russia.
Saker, and Putin seems to understand all of this. Note his itinerary-Minsk, Berlin, Paris, and Beijing. Those are clearly his priorities. He knows the Anglosphere has nothing useful to say to him, so they are not.
And the Germans can’t go Nazi, because they quit having kids a couple of decades ago. Russia has 12.7 births/1000 population, right up there with France. Germany has 8.3/1000. Just not an option.
@rkka:And the Germans can’t go Nazi. Very true, not only because of natality reasons, but because I think that they really have spewed up that kind of shit once and forever. But Europeans have been so “uber-castrated” by NATO that the question for me now is this: can Russia even take Europeans seriously?
Right now, most of Europe is as spineless as can be. And I am not even talking about the cheap prostitutes of East-Central Europe who have not bigger aspiration that being the best colony NATO/US can have, no, I am talking about what Rumsfeld called the “Old Europe”. Are there *any* reasons to believe that Russia can find itself an ally in this confused, spineless, value-less, denationalized European population? I am not so sure…
China – yes. Iran – yes. Latin American “Bolivarians” – yes. Some countries of Central Asia probably too (Kazakhstan). But in Europe? Russia needs a partner with some sense of national pride, not just a country with energy needs.
Of course, Putin is quite correct in his sequence of visits, but I am dubious about the results.
We shall see…
@hans
The Guardian is not Zionist as it carries anti-Israel/Zionist stories BUT it is at the forefront of the British establishment press like The Economist whose primary agenda is British hegemony and control of Eurasia and the world that Russia is the leading bulwark against historically and contemporary that see Israeli influence in pushing for US centred Mid East policy as a diversion/hindrance to this.
Their main objective is to cut Russian energy supply routes to Europe and disband Russia like Yugoslavia into a smaller fragmented country so that it can never become a regional power and expand its influence into vital trade and energy spheres while creating a Turkic economic block in Central Asia and Turkic regions in Russia and China.
This is why the European press is so anti-Serb/Russian/Orthodox Christian because they want to annex Russia’s Dagestan region via Chechen proxy so they can open up the Caspian and energy areas under US/British control through Turkey and the new Balkan states that Europe will be dependent upon that bypass Russia that has direct British/Rothschild connection even the Nord Stream that directly links Germany and Russia energy supplies bypassing transit countries.

@rkka and VINEYARDSAKER
Germans were pretty Nazi in the Balkans and covert support for Chechen jihadists along with every other EU country and there supposed Mid East rivals.
Nazi means nothing anyway as even the Nazis were not Nazis as a force seeking world domination that had a worse demographic situation than they do now thanks to Weimar era war reparations and annexation of German territory that wanted an alliance with Britain to rule over Europe even during WW2.
German expansionist influence like the British and Americans is through economic influence and cultural and ethnic trade alliances with countries traditionally allied with Germany or have traditional good relations.
Britain has traditionally been weary and hostile to Germany being the prominent economic power in Europe that Thatcher expressed concern with Gorbachev of Germany’s growing influence after re-unification so it is no surprise that there is direct British/Rothschild connection in the Nord Stream project that directly links German and Russian energy that bypasses any transit country.
