The legislation, which also targets Nazi propaganda was adopted by 254 votes in favor in the 450-member parliament, or Rada. It bans all symbols and propaganda representing “the totalitarian Communist and Nazi regimes” — from street names and flags, to monuments and plaques. It effectively cancels the existence of Ukraine, since it was created by the Communist Bolsheviks government in 1919-1920 and signed into law by Lenin.
However a separate law adopted by the same hardworking Rada on Thursday April 8, officially recognizes the role of a nationalist group that fought for Ukraine’s independence in the mid-20th century and is still popular in western Ukraine.
We are talking about OUN, UPA, those various Nazi collaborators, murderers (Petro Dyachenko) , and those that haven’t been rehabilitated yet, while many were previously (Bandera, Shukevych). Most of western media skipped it altogether.
The bill is actually interesting, since it proclaims Nazi collaborators and mass murderers of Poles, Jews, Russians, and Ukrainians as freedom fighters, and calls for prosecution of Ukrainians and foreigners who show disrespect towards OUN, UPA, or any other “Ukrainian Hero.”
Some people call this law divisive and comparable to the post-Maidan ban on Russian language that led to the Ukrainian Civil war and an escape of Crimea. Others say that it’s no biggie, just the expressive use of folklore.
The biggest mistake in war and market investments is to look at the past performance and assume that the things would be the same. The First World War was different from the Anglo-Franco Crimean War in 1853-1856. the Second World War was different from the Chechen War, the Chechen war was different from the Civil war in Ukraine. The NATO war with Russia and its allies will be different from any other war in the history of mankind. Just like the investment in Citibank in 2009 wasn’t anything like investment into the same bank today.
Comparing the fascist ideology in Hitler’s Germany to the modern fascist ideology in Ukraine is a somewhat misguided and misplaced endeavor, unless you agree that the only constant here is the demonization of the Russian nation. However, the superiority of Aryan race as a driving force of the European fascism circa mid 20 century has been replaced in Ukraine by the revenge of the Semites. Not against Germans – the exterminators, mind you. It’s a revenge against Russians, the liberators. Meet Tuvia Tenenbom, a self-proclaimed “theater director, playwright, author, journalist, essayist and the founding artistic director of the Jewish Theater of New York. ” He makes his pilgrimage to Lvov in futile search of Ukrainian fascists.
Traveling down this rabbit hole, he meets Nathan Chazin, a citizen of Israel who served in IDF. He wears a Star of David and the uniform of the Right Sector. Nathan is presently commanding a Right Sector battalion and is very proud of his role in genocide of Russians in Donbas.
In the Jewish community center in Kiev, the author was informed that the Right Sector is not anti-Semitic organization. How could the Right Sector be anti-Semitic with so many Jews commanding officers, like the Chief of communications Right Sector Boris Blaher AKA Borislav Bereza, a real boyfriend of Anna Duritskaya? Moscow meanwhile is urging the removal of all foreign military formations from Ukraine, including the instructors from the United States and NATO.

J Hawk does this very well at Fort Russ. He adds a very light touch of opinion – if at all – and sometimes humor in a headline, but mostly the substance of the offering, which consists of 2 things: (1) a link that is formatted well for the eye to read as a section headline, plus (2) one paragraph or less description of what the story is about. This is crucial for this kind of report, which supplies multiple links and stories in one post. It’s a digest rather than a sitrep.

I suspected just that, but wanted to share the info about the bombing of Philadelphia in 1985. Women and children were bombed because they didn’t have money to pay rent, or jobs to earn money, and because they were black. Your allegation about “rivers of Russian blood spilled by the Soviet Communist regime” is simply an assertion without any factual or scholarly backup. How many millions were killed in the USSR during the the Stalin period as compared to that by the Nazis? Please provide some data instead of taking an holier than thou attitude. You should also compare these with the number of people killed on both sides in the US Civil War.

Given that calendar, I have no doubt Russia will be wanting to calm the situation in Ukraine at least through until August, and probably through until September. Of course, during this period the Kiev junta will be trying to stir up the situation and provoke conflict – at the urging of their Washington backers.
Now in mid-April that gives 5 months of ‘danger-time’ for Novorossiya in which they are likely to be potentially restrained against their will.
At some point I expect Russia will ‘let them have their head’ so to speak, and see what they are capable of. I fear that might not be a for a few months yet though. August/ September/ October could finally be the time they’ll be allowed a full response.
Given all this conditionality, the voentorg is the main channel by which Russia restrains the Novorossiyans, so I’d expect that be used to lever them to follow Russia’s wishes at least for the forthcoming four or five months.
In other words – expect more hard times ahead in the immediate future. Keep in mind, I’m sure China is also telling Russia not to let the situation get ‘out of control’ anytime soon.
And then you have how all this ties into the Iran negotiations deadline – which is end June for instance.

Soviet marshal statue in Prague vandalised with pink paint

We haven’t had a Carpathian sitrep for a while…..but things getting more restless in the south west of Ukraine region, re Moldovan farmers going bankrupt and complaning , the Bessarabia events of last few days etc,

We will start paying more attention to the south and north west of Ukraine region.
I actually listed a couple of the “incident” happening in the West Ukraine in Sitrep April 16th.
The technical difficulty here is the need to sift through enormous amount of local press. To translate from Ukrainian language is not difficult per se. It’s the fairytale style of the information delivery that baffles the most. It’s hard to understand, sometimes, if the journalists are quoting Die Nibelungen, or reporting on the water shortage in Lvov.
But, you’re right. We have to start paying more attention to the West of Ukraine and its people.
