The general is RETIRED General Vladimir Ruban, who has been doing an excellent job throughout, arranging POW exchanges, way before they were formalised by the first ceasefire agreement. Especially he’s been seeking out missing people believed to be prisoners (on both sides).
He is entirely sarcastic about wanting to give them medals. He is not “admitting” it is intentional but ACCUSING it, cautiously of course, given that he wants to be able to keep doing his “rescues”. Decent man who deserves a lot of respect.

However proximity of military ammo warehouse to such a huge fire makes it much more dangerous.
The first suspicion, of local police, was accident/mishandling. Then SBU got involved and said maybe sabotage/terrorism of some sort. Then another came in and said no, it’s Yatsenuk’s fault for cancelling safety inspections. Then the manager of the company announced they found explosives nearby several times since (variously August and April last year) and he thinks it’s an attempt to reduce the value of the company for purposes of cheap takeover (whether by another oligarch or sale to foreigners he didn’t really specify but the latter is more likely).
“According to Reuters, Interior Ministry official Zoryan Shkiryak said police were investigating three possible causes of the fire: “Violations of fuel storage regulations, technical malfunctions or arson”.
Ukrainian Security Council Secretary Oleksandr Turchynov promised to launch a criminal investigation into the design engineers who had placed a tight ring of fuel storage facilities around a military base loaded with heavy bombs and various rockets..”

The current episode is the Russian Currency War. So it starts with a brief background for the first two minutes. At minute 2, he starts a show on the currency battle with a shot of Sergei Shoygu crossing himself, and by explaining the difference between the Orthodox and Catholic cross, and the Russian mentality vs the Western mentality. He posited that the western view is that by sanctioning Russia, the economic hardship would cause a popular uprising which would remove Putin from power. This is an incorrect assumption, given the Russian ability to endure hardship; as an example, he inserted a clip from the 1972 movie movie The Dawns Here Are Quiet (А зори здесь тихие), based the Belorussian writer Vasilyev’s novel. Vasilyev is quite famous writer in China, and both the 1972 movie, as well as the 2007 Chinese 12 part mini-series (http://russia-ic.com/news/show/3644#.VXeB4vlVhBc ) were very popular in China.
Song goes over all that happened in 2014, including sanctions, the collapse of oil prices, all with copius charts to boot. The sudden joint Syrian/Lebanese attack on positions long-held by the Alqaeda/Nusra terrorists has resulted in some very interesting developments. Based on Ba’ath Party sources and Monzer’s memos to me, it appears the terrorists were not prepared for the kind of invasion they saw in the areas of the Qalamoon which have been liberated.
It took the Syrian Army and its Lebanese allies in Hizbollah months to prepare for this. There had to be coordination of secure communications between the units of the SAA and those of HZB. There were training programs on new weapons and techniques. And there had to be a successful disinformation campaign conducted by the SAA to give the terrorists the impression that nothing was coming soon. Hence, their complete lack of preparedness.
And don’t ever get the impression the commanders on the ground aren’t smart and professional – nobody is going to give the terrorists an opportunity to regroup in order to launch a revanchist attack on previously lost positions. It is the opinion of SyrPer that the terrorist presence in both Lebanon’s eastern mountains abutting Syria and those on the Syrian side is at a crucial end.
