The Crimean authorities have just announced that the referendum of the future of the Crimea will be held on March 16 and that the two questions will be:
Are you in favor of Crimea becoming a constituent territory of the Russian Federation?
or
Are you in favor of restoring Crimea’s 1992 constitution?
- Crimean MPs voted on Thursday for the region to “to become part of the Russian Federation as its constituent territory,”: 78 MPs said yes to Crimea joining Russia, while 8 abstained from voting. The parliament has also made a decision to ask the Russian leadership to “launch the procedure of Crimea becoming part of Russia.”
Comment: this is quite a surprise to me, I had not expected the Crimeans to chose to join Russia. I suppose that this is a reaction to the escalation of verbal threats coming from the US and EU.
PS: concerning the rumor about the Ukrainians placing mines around the Sevastopol harbor, this is nonsense for the following reasons:
1) Who would have placed them? The Ukrainians – impossible: the Black Sea Fleet intel would have picked up on the deployment. Also, the Ukrainians do not have the means to do that. The West – impossible. That would be an act of war. And, again, the BSF intel would have picked that up. The Russians themselves – why? And if they did, how could they lose control of the codes?
2) The BSF does have the means to remove such mines.
3) The Crimean authorities and the Russians could get a fantastic chance for some propaganda if that was true. They never mentioned it.
4) What would be the point? Give a pretext to the Russians to open up with whatever they want on the Ukrainians? Hardly. A false flag? That would not require such big deployment.
Bottom line – dismiss these crazy rumors.
Cheers and stay tuned!

Putin has masterfully manipulated the “political” world into the position where it will be no longer be able to prevent the (long overdue) legal reintegration of Crimea with Russia. Forget about the sound and fury coming from US and EU concerning Ukraine, because that is what it is, with no basis in international law, which Putin has scrupulously followed. Obviously, Crimea would choose Russia rather than the west given a legal opening and that is exactly what they now have. Of course international law has often been perverted in the past by the United States, but those days are changing as Russia gains strength. The original Crimean referendum had been scheduled for the end of May and note how the date comes forward almost on a daily basis. Any further delay will lead to continued confusion and further destabilisation and weakness within Europe, as well as in Ukraine. In my opinion, that is one of the “underlying and unofficial” goals of the United State regime.
It is somewhat naive that so many delight in pointing out the dumbness of the unimportant American public (it has always been so) and the apparent idiocy, ignorance and unscrupulousness of many American politicians (also the case). I would respectively ask them to consider that most of the “shocking revelations” deal directly or indirectly with corruption and incompetence and are damaging the “reputation” of the EU. If the unelected masters in Brussels are so stupid as to accept the bankrupt parts of the Ukraine, and even more amazingly, choose sanctions against Russia, those may be the straws which will break the Euro and them. Their inflexible and thoughtless socialist policies have brought western Europe close to financial and moral chaos. Should that scenario take place the US will shed crocodile tears, and laugh all the way to the bank. Someday their day of reckoning will occur as well, but not just yet.
If Crimea became an independent state no one would recognise it except Russia so if they’re going to break away from Ukraine they might as well join the RF.
This would be spun by the West as Russian aggression and annexation of part of sovereign Ukraine of course.
Problem with Crimean secession is that it might encourage eastern and southern provinces in mainland Ukraine to try the same thing thereby accelerating the process towards Ukrainian civil war. God help us.
Yugoslavia deja vu.
what you think of the sanctions?
It has been clear for at least a week now that Putin is not bluffing and has effectively called the West’s ‘bluff’. However, I am becoming increasingly concerned that the US-UK-NATO axis is NOT bluffing.
I asked in a comment to your last post for your view on Professor Francis Boyles ruminations (I’ve summarised them here) and would very much like to know your opinon on the matter.
It seems to me that, if the US-UK-NATO axis has indeed decided that now is the time to push it’s agenda hard against Russia (and all the signs are of Western escalation – rhetorical at least) then, to put it at its mildest, the world is facing a VERY dangerous few months
My guess: 1.) with an independent Crimea, we have something new, which is not member of OSCE, so OSCE-observers are out. This explains why declaration was immediately.
2.) Collecting material for diplomacy. Let the West diplomacy at the end of the day reach a big success that Crimea remains part of Ukraina.
I think Crimea as part of Ukraina makes a lot more of sense. Without Crimea, ukrainian russians would loose every democratic election.
On Ticotiger’s points @12:57.
It’s pretty clear to me that it is Occult – and not-so-occult – Judaic influence that has brought things to this pass. The $64,000 questions is: “Do they REALLY intend to push this beyond the wire and force the the US-NATO military to be brought to bear?”
Since they are essentially sly, slimy opportunist cowards, my fervent hope is that the answer is no, but right now, listening to the US and UK politicos + Rassmussen et al, that is beginning to look like a forlorn hope. Pace Francis Boyle: do they believe they are in a position to force Putin to “back-off” as (for public consumption) they are repeat ad-nauseam?
Hi The Saker, do you think that Russia will accept Crimea as a new autonomous republic?
http://french.ruvr.ru/news/2013_10_28/La-Russie-a-commence-a-entourer-lUkraine-de-barbeles-0440/
From 28 oktober 2013 we see that russian begin to surround Ukraina with barbe-wire.
Russia are not surprise of what happening now. They have prepare very well their response to this 4th generation war.
Forty-three military observers from 23 Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) member states attempted to enter Crimea on Thursday but then turned back to Odessa. http://rt.com/news/kiev-clashes-rioters-police-571/
http://rt.com/news/ukrainian-warships-leave-sevastopol-476/
Which flags on theese ships? If not control by Russia I think they could not have left Sevastopal.
Now we can suppose that theese ships are in Odessa. And we see that observer go to Odessa.
No doubt about the result of the referendum of 16 march. I think that Russia want to take Ukraina east from line from Kharkov to Odessa, and 150 km deep up to Transnistria. Who control Odessa now? Exxon is supposed to have the oil field of Ukraina in Black Sea. The battle is now for access to Black Sea. http://www.voltairenet.org/article182466.html
If Russian control Odessa now, I guess they could block the access of black to Kiev regime. It would be a total defeat for Nato. And if the economic retaliation are too sharp it could bring to complete fall of FED banking system.
The present crisis in Ukraina could trigger something very big. (Sorry my english is very poor, but I think you have understand what I mean).
L.
why you would hire a private security contractor to deploy in Crimea, wont the firm be more susceptible to corruption and influence, i.e goes to the highest bidder

Reading this article, it struck me how much the USA has reverted back to the McCarthy times of the late 40’s to the early 60’s. Since the 80’s I’ve been noticing how all the advances made in the USA during the 60’s and 70’s have been slowly chipped away and the old 50’s fascism creeping back.
And like a frog placed in a pan of water which is slowly heated to boiling, the obedient, ultra conformist American public just sits there obliviously taking it.

Syrian ambassador to US restricted to 25-mile radius of New York City
http://rt.com/news/syria-ambassador-travel-ban-222/
“The US State department has banned the movement of Syria’s UN delegation, headed by Bashar al-Jaafari, to within a 25-mile (40 km) radius of New York City.
North Korean and Iranian diplomats are also restricted to a 25-mile radius of the Columbus Intersection in Manhattan.”
The UN needs to be moved from the zionazi North American regional capital to a neutral location. The Americans have continuously interfered with the operation of this world body and done so in extremely childish ways.

Ukraine new leaders appoint ‘morale officers’ in army, officers fear chaos
http://voiceofrussia.com/news/2014_03_06/Ukraine-new-leaders-appoint-morale-officers-in-army-officers-fear-chaos-6548/
“The current Ukrainian government, which consists mostly of former opposition members, has appointed “morale officers” to control the actions of commanders of all levels in the 95th airmobile brigade of the Ukrainian army, which is dislocated in the Ukrainian city of Zhitomir. Officers are concerned that such move may create an atmosphere of chaos in the brigade.
This is what one of the officers of this brigade told the Russian RIA Novosti news agency on Thursday.
The “morale officers” already came to the Zhitomir airmobile brigade on Wednesday. They have been appointed mainly from members of the former opposition who were, as the new government says, most active adherents of Ukraine’s integration into Europe. In practice, this means that they were especially aggressive during the unrest in Kiev.
The “morale instructors’ are authorized to reveal soldiers and officers who are not very loyal to the current government and who are unwilling to fulfill this government’s orders. They also have the right to remove disloyal officers from their posts.
Another officer of the Zhitomir air brigade, who also doesn’t want his name to be revealed, says that this news has thrown all the brigade’s officers into confusion.
He added that he is very concerned that the appearance of such “morale officers”, who are mainly young men and who are vested with nearly unlimited authority, may create an atmosphere of chaos in the brigade.”
It looks like they are modelling their military on the nazi model, and no doubt these “young men” are loyal right sector bun bandits.

Can we seceed from Obama’s police state? Hopefully most Ukreainians will vote to leave the corrupt Ukraine now run by zio-Oligarch politcians.
As for the mines:
The guy said it was Soviet Navy who laid tens of thousands mines through WW II and Cold war. Ukrainian Navy was part of Black Sea Fleet at that time. But it may be as well nonsense. He mentioned Novorossiysk as a victim of released old mine in 1955, but Russian source claims the cause still isn’t clear and that the incident remained actually classified until the late 80s. So the whole story might be bogus.
The domino effect:
Some Russians leave the Ukraine for Russia, the remaining Russians feel more and more marginalized. They in turn petition to leave the Ukraine.
What is the shape of the Ukrainian state minus the likely lost provinces?
Can the puppet regime in Kiev answer to its own people for this nightmare they imposed upon them?
I don’t expect the puppet regime to last very long.

No walking back, or climbing down. playing for keeps. Those are the thoughts going through my mind this morning. With the concerted effort in the western media, and western govt statements, over the past few days to portray Putin as the devil incarnate; a madman; unstable; how is the U.S. going to walk this back when this crisis passes? You can’t demonize someone this badly, and then expect that you are going to be able to treat them as a “partner” a couple of months later. I could be wrong, but this signals to me that the west doesn’t want a solution to this crisis. If they didn’t plan on Russia’s strong reaction, they certainly see the opportunity in it to bring relations between the west and Russia to a head. This gives me the sense that the U.S./west is playing for keeps on this, and they won’t let go of this until Putin is gone from the stage. I don’t think Putin is going to go quietly into obscurity – he CAN’T if I read him right. So push will come to shove and we are back to looking at war again. (edit: or maybe a cold war, but time is not on the U.S. side).
No one is discussing why Jews have teamed up with Nazis to conduct this coup in the Ukraine. No one is discussing how Jews got to be so intimate with Nazis.
So, how is it that the Jews, Oleksander Turchinov, Arseniy Yatsenyuk, Vitali Klitschko, etc, have teamed up with the Ukrainian Neonazis to conduct a coup in the Ukraine.
How come everybody knows about this but nobody cares.
Are these Ukrainian Neonazis actually a “false flag” group (of Jews?).
They say that Hitler was the same. In this case, that he was actually a Jew.
The “evidence” they provide is quite interesting;
1) Hitler ordered the tanks to stop for 3 days near Dunkirk when only a short distance away. This allowed the entire British army and part of the French army to escape to Britain.
2) Hitler refused to take Gibraltar and turn the Mediterranean into a “German lake”. There was nothing to stop the Germans from driving through Spain (their ally) and doing the job.
3) Hitler declared war on the United States.
4) Hitler refused to allow the tens of thousands of tons of weaponized nerve gas that the Germans had produced (at Dyhernfurth an der Oder) to be used.
5) Hitler refused to conquer Britain. After Dunkirk, Britain was totally defenseless.
Are we witnessing an attempted re-run of WW2?

Chill out, dude! This is a free blog, in all of its meanings, and there are no mandatory topics. Folks here discuss whatever the hell they want to discuss. May I suggest something: try to make your posts more appealing. Accusing others of not caring (like they owe you anything) does not make your posts appealing. Neither does posting in bold. These are just ways to turn people off and it makes you look immature. So, be nice, ask a question, post a helpful reply, always be courteous and never act like anybody here owes you anything, and you are likely to get many more replies.
My 2cts.
Kind regards,

RT 21:14 GMT:
“Ukraine’s Central Election Committee (CEC) has requested to temporarily block access for Crimean authorities to the State Voter Registry, CEC’s press service reported”.
It looks like they are trying to derail the referendum – it will be interesting to see if the Crimean Govt. was one step ahead and has the voter register already or not….
Things are a little confusing. Jews teaming up with Nazis just doesn’t make any sense at all because of the Holocaust.
When I mentioned this elsewhere I was told that the Holocaust was not true. That the history has been completely distorted.
Jews teaming up with Nazis makes me think that they might be correct.
This page makes one think: http://guardian.150m.com/holocaust/why-believe.htm
Re “Morale Officers”:
Sounds like political commissars to me.
It also sounds as if they are looking for a return to those golden days of the Galician SS. Those fellows all had the “approved” attitude, you betcha.
Dear Saker,
thank you for your work and this very thoughtful blog. I try to make sense of Mrs Clinton’s comparison of Putin’s policies to those of Hitler. She served two terms as First Lady, one as Secretary of the State and has her sights on the Presidency (IIRC she is also a lawyer). So she must be aware of what she says and one must assume that she said it intentionally. And this statement is “not helpful” at best…
Anonymous, 6 Mar 20:00
While President Clinton did make an effort to open his genitals to all talents, the role of First Lady is not generally regarded as one of the great Offices of State. So how can she have “served two terms”? Could Laura Bush (or Barbara!) have run against her for her side of the bed? Proximity to power seems to have convinced her that power is rightfully hers by osmosis. She retains all the arrogance and formulaic certainty of a child, but has acquired none of the humility, breadth of vision and wisdom which statecraft requires. Eleanor Roosevelt she is not. Before she accuses Putin, she should look in the mirror … provided she find one which won’t crack.
