As of today the situation in the Ukraine is deceptively calm. If the Novorussians have completed the withdrawal of their heavy weapons, the junta forces by all accounts did not: they did withdraw some, but most if it was not so much a case of withdrawal as a case of relocation and even rotation of forces. The OSCE knows about it, but there is nothing which they can do. Furthermore, there has been a flurry of behind the scenes contacts between the Hollande, Merkel, Putin and Poroshenko, and between Kerry and Lavrov but with nothing substantial revealed, at least not to the general public. It is hard for me to believe that the junta is preparing a “Spring offensive” after being so thoroughly thrashed last summer and this winter, but then this begs the question of what is really worse for the freaks in power, a military defeat or a peace which would leave them one on one with their extremely dissatisfied population.
Speaking of the Winter Offensive, “Uncle Martin” has posted an English translation of Colonel Cassad’s detailed analysis of what happened near Donetsk and Debaltsevo and it shows that things were not nearly as picture perfect as some might have supposed. Check out the article here, it is a very interesting read: The battle for Debalcevo. Results.
In them meantime, in the junta-controlled part of the Ukraine the persecution of the Orthodox population by Uniate thugs continues unabated. In the latest case, Human Rights activists from Kiev have reported that Orthodox Christians were assaulted and threatened inside their church during a religious ceremony. You can access the machine translated version of this article by clicking here.
US and EU leaders have declared that they are looking into more sanctions against Russia if the Minsk-2 Agreement fails in Novorussia. Apparently, they are assuming that this could only happen by the fault of the Novorussians and Russia. In the meantime, the Internet domain names registered in Crimea are being removed by ICANN (see here for details).
Bottom line: the situation appears calm, but since nothing has really changed, this calm is probably temporary at best.
The Saker
I just finished watching the movie “Tinker,Tailor,Soldier,Spy” based on John le Carré’s book. A brilliantly directed movie, in my opinion, with wonderful quiet rich cinematography and even more wonderful use of silence and facial expressions. There’s a hillarious bit in the second Christmas party flashback where one of the MI6 spies with a Lenin mask comes in dressed up as Father Christmas and they all stand up (including John Le Carré) and sing the Soviet National Anthem.
All this has led me to suggest a spy novel interpretation of the Nemskov assassination.
He is not dead. Nemskov was a Putin asset used to attract opposition and flush out dangerous opponents while posing no threat to Putin. Nemskov had received word though that he was going to be assassinated and his days are numbered so he arranged his own demise with Kremlin support. The figure running from the ‘scene’ and jumping in the car is in fact Nemskov. The reason Nemskov only had a sweater on was so that he could quickly put a jacket on behind the snow truck and look like a different person. The snow truck has a lifesize mannekin of Nemskov complete with all the props that was tossed out at the same time. Given that it was night the latter would be very convincing and even if it didn’t look lifelike, well, there’d be a reaaon for that.
Complicit in all this is the ‘girlfriend’, the snow truck driver, the pickup car and those that run up and disappear down the staircase. The latter could help arrange things, check everything looked good and scatter the shell casings in the appropriate spot. They could also previously have transferred fingerprints of some known criminal on to that metal railing adjoining the ledge that the supposed assassin hid behind on the bridge. This is a few meters from where the pedestrian staircase come up (nobody came from there on the video) and joins the bridge. Also complicit would be the police etc. that bag the ‘body’.
I am sure many here could modify and embellish this story. Soon it will be a major motion picture and all proceeds can go to support The Saker.
good idea!
i’ve seen this before, too, but in a tv show plot.
it was get smart, & max & the chief faked max being rubbed out in a kaos hit, so that a funeral could be staged to smoke out some kaos agents.
course, max showed up at the funeral disguised as an old lady, & complained to the chief that he’d never seen such a cheesy, low budget funeral.lol.
Good ol’ Get Smart. Still sometimes miss that show. Doubt you could air it nowadays.

12 USA top political figures murdered like Boris Nemtsov
Nearly the same story here http://fortruss.blogspot.fr/2015/03/was-nemtsov-killed-because-his-cover-as.html
May be it’s the truth!
Wow! Interesting -especially if somehow it was even partly true.
I have analysed the video at painful length and disagree with parts of the analysis I have seen written in various places. The killer (assuming the primary wasn’t the girlfiend) did not come up the staircase walk towards and then pass the couple and then turn around and shoot Nemstov in the back. There is absolutely nobody walking towards the couple and the hit occurred before they or the snow truck reached the staircase. I believe the snow truck with the flashing light was the marker for the couple and obviously visible to someone below the ledge. This ledge can be seen in Google Streetview if you drop down to the street below and look up. The snow truck would also serve as a visual distraction as it came alongside and also cover any sound of the killer. I don’t believe the latter needed nor had the time to hop over the ledge -I think the shots were made from behind the ledge. Nemstov was on the right hand side, so easier to hit. The snow truck comes from the street below and turns right on to the bridge and the couple would have been easy to see even without radio notification.
I am not convinced that there is not a much deeper and hidden story behind all this.
There are many financial impacts targeted on Crimea. Even Apple is refusing to accept Apps developed in Crimea. Russia must reject and fight every attack against Crimean economy.
The strategy is to isolate and destroy the Crimea sector of the Russian economy, burdening more than anticipated the absorption of Crimea into Russian whole.
Thus, Russia needs to immediately invite in the Chinese and all non-sanctioning countries for tourism, development, and trade.
The go-slow with Crimea approach by Moscow is a mistake.
And if anyone thinks Crimea is a done deal economically, they are mistaken. I read this very differently.
The West will crush Crimea in every way it can for decades. Cuba is what is planned for Crimea.
This must get settled on the battlefield. Russia has to arm the militia much more to decisively destroy Kiev’s military. That entire Kiev line of artillery north of Donetsk and Lugansk should be destroyed by an overwhelming launch of missiles supplied by Russia.
Then tell NATO to take its advisers out or they are next.
You can’t diplomatically end this. It is a war. Wars are decided on battlefields. Only defeats are negotiated.
I don’t agree with your strategy Larchmonter. I say this “Only the endurance of those who are devoted to the Spirit will stand the test.”
Russians must endure these sanctions. Another quote: “Those who live by the sword, die by the sword.”
I’m not saying the Novorussians shouldn’t fight. I’m saying a ‘wipe-out’ is over the top.
I agree with you Ann. Russia must go thru the penance and become completely free from West. West is a “KEMO-Therapy” which looks like a cure but it KILLS everything….

I absolutely agree. The world needs anything but the American empire at this point.
Novorossiya would not even exist if the Russians hadn’t helped them “wipe out” the Ukies in the cauldrons.
If the ceasefire-pullback regime does not hold, they will need to “wipeout” the Ukies again and again.
It is only logical that you get peace from victory, not any other way. One side has to realize they can not win. Thus they lose.
Even North Ireland, 400 years of conflict, finally ended when the IRA realized they could not win.
Thus, they lost.
Watch out for this one.She is a troll.
For the foreseeable future, Crimea is an exclave, like Kaliningrad, and so is very vulnerable. It needs industry and a dependable supply of essential services ASAP to keep it from sliding into becoming an economic burden on the RF.
Up until recently Kaliningrad was buying 80%+ (iirc) of its electricity from its neighbours and had little more than a military/naval base for economic activity. That has changed since it became a special economic zone and attracted some industry, but the sudden turn to Russophobia by surrounding neighbours must make it feel rather exposed.

Larchmonter, according to Joaquin Flores it is planned that the next steps wil be civil activism followed by referendums in Kharkov and perhaps Mariupol. Such actions in support of joining Novorossiya or federation status. Then local military to support the people’s decision.
Every day it becomes more clear that the Anglozionists and NATO are worldwide aggressors and that the Russians and Chinese act w great restraint and in accordance w international law. This matters; moral authority is more powerful in the world than we have yet seen.

ok, who thinks this option (fourth in that list of 6) would be accepted by russia, & why?
This is the most interesting position because it can be supported by both Iran and Russia. It would restore the US global leadership position, as in “Desert Storm” against Iraq’s Saddam Hussein and win without fail.
nonymous,
I’m not sure about Voltairenet’s position that US is in the midst of a major position change on Syria such that Assad survives, ISIS is defeated, and the remnant of ISIS moves on to engage Russia.
Seems to me the idea that “moderates” will soon be able to call in US bombers against “ISIS” [really Asad’s forces] throws a major wrench in Voltairenet’s interpretation.
But he does seem to be a serious thinker, so we’ll see.
I find Thierry Messan too far out. I respect him, he was the first 9/11 whistleblower, but he’s really out there…
Sounds like the ZPC/NWO continues intensifying it’s cold war. Thanks for linking the translation of the CC analysis of the Donetsk and Debaltsevo fighting. I’d used auto trans earlier, but some areas were unclear.
In the meantime, the Internet domain names registered in Crimea are being removed by ICANN
This why everything will have to be rebuilt in areas outside of zionazi/western fascist control.
I agree. I mean honestly, the human race existed before swift…we’ll (the Russians) have to do it again from scratch…they’ll survive…eventually.

Just Business: US Grows Russia Trade While Urging EU to Back Off
The head of the Russian State Duma’s Foreign Affairs Committee, Aleksey Pushkov announced that the United States is “making money” by increasing trade with Russia while telling Europe to stop doing business with the country.
The State Department is pressuring EU countries to stop doing business with Russia, yet Russia’s trade with the US grew by 7 percent in 2014, Pushkov tweeted.
“US State Department: ‘This is not the time for business with Russia.’ How is it that in 2014 trade between the US and Russia grew by 7 percent? They are pressuring the EU, but making money themselves.”
Pushkov was referring to a statement by US State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf, who urged European countries not to do business with Russia on Monday, following agreements made between Russia and Cyprus last week.
During the visit, Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades announced that all European Union (EU) member states without exception have experienced the negative effect of Western sanctions against Russia.
He doesn’t say what was traded, though. It would be interesting to know what sort of things were being traded.
US Unhappy Over Cypriot President’s Visit to Moscow – Cyprus’s Minister
Cyprus’ President Nikos Anastasiades visit to Moscow in late February resulted in 11 agreements on cooperation being signed, including military, naval and anti-terrorism agreements. The visit ran counter to Washington’s and Brussels’ policy of pressuring Moscow over its alleged role in the crisis in Ukraine.
“The [US] discontent focused on the fact that they believe that Putin’s government should be isolated by the 28 EU Member States and all other members of the North Atlantic Alliance”, Kasoulides said in an interview to the state-owned TV-channel RIC after returning from Washington.
But he stressed that the United States is not “entitled to be displeased,” as Washington does not seem to be concerned by the aggressive policy of Turkey toward Cyprus, at the same time blaming Moscow for the crisis in Ukraine.
The minister lamented that the West resorted to sanctions in response to Russia’s alleged support for eastern Ukraine’s independence supporters, but showed “no similar attitude in the case of Turkey versus Cyprus.”
See also: US Ambassador to Cyprus involved in Twitter storm after Nemtsov murder post
The US Ambassador to Cyprus John Koenig has incurred the wrath of the island nation after linking Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades’ visit to Russia with the murder of Boris Nemtsov.
Koenig is an active Twitter user, with his love of the Seattle Seahawks American football team and his penchant for landscape photography apparent. One of his other passions on the social network is ‘Russia bashing’, which he is happy to do at any given opportunity.
He is also big fan of re-tweeting his colleague Geoffrey Pyatt, who is the US Ambassador to Ukraine. Pyatt is also an avid user of Twitter and has gotten himself into hot water in the past by making false statements.
Apparently one of the job requirements for a pindoland ambassador, besides the ubiquitous available bum, is an adolescent level of maturity.
Thanks for the SITREP Saker …. keep the faith. The world needs to know all. Now is not the time for silence from the situation. Hope the new blog survives ok. Друзья Удачи !!!
I do prefer the original uk bbc tv series actually…..much better supporting cast, going onto smileys people too, the next book series.
I don’t have a televsion, the better to both enjoy life and avoid the drumming sub-conscious propaganda memes. So I have not seen the BBC series although I note that it has Alec Guinness and so should be good.
Given the flagrant propaganda the BBC is pumping out about Ukraine and Russia I don’t think I would be able to support the BBC by buying it. I’ll see if the library has it or worst case buy a second hand copy.
One of the most alarming things about all this is that the propaganda in the media appears to have gone well past the point of no return. By turning Putin into Hitler, they’ll never be able to retract their demonization. This means that they either need to conduce a coup or start a real war. Backing down would mean having to admit the truth and destroying their own credibility, which I can’t imagine them doing.
That’s not necessarily true. They demonized the USSR for decades, but never went to war with them–directly at least. A new cold war is the most likely outcome, I think.
Just spotted this today in the UK. Military trucks on the move. I don’t trust our government here ….

Oh no! Rebellion in the colonies:
US Ambassador to South Korea Injured in Attack
According to South Korean media, witnesses at the scene said the attacker shouted his name, Kim, several times during the attack. “Kim” reportedly has a criminal record and was last in prison in 2010 for throwing a concrete sculpture at the Japanese ambassador.
Reports say “Kim” used a razor blade to attack the ambassador and shouted “No drills for war,” an apparent reference to ongoing South Korea-US military exercises.
One could say the enlightenment of the people in a country is inversely proportional to the safety of a US ambassador in that country. ;)
there must be a connection between the slicer and Kim Jong…
The connection is they are both Korean and both want a unified nation. The US does not want unity. It will have no base for 28,000 troops, no reason to be in the region.
Same with basing in Okinawa. People there hate American troops.
Was that way in Philippines until Aquino decided to fight with China and get billions from the US. He reopened the nation to American basing and now has added mortal enemy Japan to the mix.
The past 60 years has been dread and nihilism in Korean society. High young suicide rates. Stress, joyless life for many.
sorry, I was being sarcastic. the name ‘Kim” was a clue…hehehe
So then,if the Ambassador is safe. The people aren’t very enlightened.I agree totally.
Dear The Saker,
The thing that struck me about this incident was the aftermarth/use of it by the US. The Ambassador is seen today with a neck brace and bandaged left arm?? He was only cut on the face. Hmm false flag me thinks or as per usual taking advantage and making more of the situation…..yet more propoganda against N Korea.
Rgds,
Veritas
Regarding N. Korea: Head of state has been invited to Moscow. Maybe Moscow & Beijing together can convince him to give up the nukes in return for security guarantees. That wd be one step towards reunification which must be VERY much desired by Moscow & Beijing in order to get rid of US troops stationed there. And of course there is the US 7th Fleet stationed there too.
Agree. Look at US embassy in Slovakia, here is a picture taken by US tourists on their web page with this comment:
Behind us in this photo is the United States Embassy in Bratislava. It is surrounded by high fences and patrolled by police officers. We saw no other buildings in Slovakia fenced off and guarded this way.

US Expands Russian-Aimed Propaganda Budget by More Than 100%
Despite its denial of any involvement in the Ukrainian crisis, and repeated criticism of Russian media, a senior official now admits that the US State Department has nearly doubled its funding for its Russian-language propaganda programs, since the beginning of the Ukrainian crisis.
I also noticed a zio-media headline that had the zionazi freak claiming there were 1000s of Russian soldiers in the Donbas. Where is Van Helsing and his trusty wooden stake now that we really do need him?
English Col. Cassad has extensive report on MH-17 shoot down. Fairly convincing w/photos and facts proof of the rocket air-to-air missile, guns to finish off, decompression kill of the passenger plane.
What more proof exists is probably even more damning of Ukie actions, but will never see the light of day.
At the top of this page menu on this website, Brothers in Arms drop down menu
In particular, the lead photo of the pilot’s bullet hole riddled torso says it all. That is the money shot that obliterates any arguments about BUKs.
The cockpit crew was targeted by a cannon, and the plane was coming down regardless of what and how many missiles were also being used as insurance. No other conclusion possible.
A devastating presentation. It needs to go viral ’round the world.
Hi Saker/anybody:
I m Sanjay here again. How much you all are sure that Herr Hitler died by killing himself ? Any proof, pictures. I have my doubt with convictions. Same as the “BERLIN AIR LIFT” of all the Germans who you know who they were and given immunity etc….. If there is no proof of him as dead then it tells everything abt the situation in the World is in.

SK
Hitler was born in 1889. How old would he be today?
Just google “hitler death images” and you will get pictures right away, followed by large numbers of articles explaining it all how it happened, how he was found, where the remains were taken etc.
The situation there did not depend entirely on Hitler. The ideology lived on, got exported with survivors, remained hidden in Europe, and is now growing again..
The Berlin Air Lift was done to provide food and other necessities of life to Berlin, after it was totally surrounded and blockaded by the Soviet forces. Possibly they did bring out a few people, I don’t know. You’d have to google that too, or maybe check it in Wikipedia. Do some research, Sanjay, it will amaze you what extra information you can come across that way.

Interesting article here:
http://www.counterpunch.org/2015/03/05/the-suicide-of-mikhail-chechetov/
” When Poroshenko heard about Chechetov’s suicide, he said it was not a contract killing. There are not and there never will be contract killings in Ukraine, said Poroshenko.
And yet, I have doubts. Chechetov in his public speeches always reiterated that he was for a negotiated resolution of the conflict during Euromaidan. He participated in various television programs explaining the position of the Party of Regions. He did not flee Ukraine, as other high-ranking officials of the Yanukovych regime did. “
I’m sure the Nazis defenestrated him for free. No contract required. Hence Porkyshenko is technically correct.
Security experts shape Russian strategy to counter color revolutions – report
The daily quoted one of the experts, former security officer and now a professor at Moscow State University, Andrey Manoilo, who said the council supports a complex approach to the problem that would include measures against “network protest activities” and propaganda work against “romantic revolutionary stereotype,” which attracts a lot of people in the protest movements.
“Any color revolution presents itself as a natural manifestation of the people’s will, while in reality it is a chain of actions pre-planned from abroad on a very precise pattern. We can fight it only by breaking the technology chain,” Manoilo told reporters.
President Vladimir Putin again addressed the dangers of color revolutions at Wednesday’s session of the Interior Ministry’s committee. “The extremists’ actions become more complicated. We are facing attempts to use the so called ‘color technologies’ in organizing illegal street protests to open propaganda of hatred and strife on social networks,” he said.
In November last year, Putin named color revolutions as a main tool used by forces that seek to reshape the world.
“In the modern world extremism is used as a geopolitical tool for redistribution of spheres of interest. We can see the tragic consequences of the wave of the so-called color revolutions, the shock experienced by people in the countries that went through the irresponsible experiments of hidden, or sometimes brute and direct interference with their lives,” the Russian leader said.
Putin also noted in his speech that everyone advocating the freedom of assembly and expression must remember the responsibility that comes together with these rights.
However, Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated that the fight against extremism must not turn into a campaign against dissidents. “All people have the right to suggest solutions for and approaches to current problems, and they have the right to form parties and groups, to participate in elections and fight for power,” Putin told the Security Council members in November. “The most important thing is to ensure that the process of realizing citizens’ political preferences is civilized and strictly within the framework of the law,” he said.
However, Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated that the fight against extremism must not turn into a campaign against dissidents.
.
This will be the most difficult part to get right. Even getting it right, the western propaganda machine will ride it for all it’s worth. Crackdown on dissidents, undemocratic, ect ect.
Actually, it is not as hard to differentiate between dissidents and extremism. Follow the $$$
The same goes for NGO’s, shut down NGO’s with large financing from foreign sources. I am sure a line can be drawn with the limits of acceptable financing but it does require vigilance on the part of regulators to ensure nothing is amiss.

I believe the boots on the ground of “advisers” to the junta are primarily there to bolster against a counter-coup. They are very worried that Porky will fall to Azov or Privy Sector or just nationalistic military fed up with the disaster.
Porky is the good face of their evil junta. If he goes, they really have no one the EU would want to shake hands with. They have to protect him for another year of war.
We also do no know (even Col. Cassad has not hinted of this) how many special service Russian troops have infiltrated into the depths behind lines, near some of the other cities, to organize uprisings, sabotage and do Intel scouting.
The worry for the CIA and State Department is that the Ukies will rise up, join with their own soldiers and drive out the junta.
If there is not another large wave offensive launched by the Ukies, they are too worried about their rear echelons. If they can secure their rear, they will risk more offensives. Cannon fodder is not an issue. They have no jobs for these men, can’t feed them and only regard them as risk to their own stability. They can lie and lie and the EU doesn’t care.
And all the turmoil hurts Russia and costs Russia to absorb the refugees, assist the Novorossiyans and continue the voentorg.
The model for the US govt. now is Syria. It will be a prolonged war in Ukraine. Both sides are sizing up their force structures for more, much more war. The dogs of war are still running loose.
Russia doesn’t want Porky overthrown either– not be Pravi Sector types, anyway.
BTW even w/o infiltration Russia must have tons of Novorossiyan/Russian sympathizers in all parts of Ukraine and in the armed forces.
if Porky falls, it will be a quick end to the Junta/Ukraine. I hope he falls. Eventually the uprisings in West Ukraine will have an effect…Media will have to look at it if Porky falls.
The CrossTalk show on RT of 2 March 2015 titled “Spinning Russia”, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0yvnHn2pDY , concluded with a somewhat strange opinion…
The moderator Peter Levelle posed a rhetorical question: why are the Western European governments pushing for more and more sanctions against Russia, when everybody sees that none of these are changing Russia’s behavior whatsoever? Aren’t they thus pursuing an irrational policy?
Gilbert Doctorow of the American Committee for East West Accord responded “… No, it’s not irrational Peter, sanctions are an alternative to military action …”. He proceeded to say that Merkel hurried with Minsk 2 not because her boys were facing defeat at Debaltsevo per se, but because she was afraid that the Americans would use that defeat as a pretext to expand the conflict into an all-European war. Her championing of more sanctions, he thought, was in hope of dampening the American push for military action, with sanctions serving presumably as a substitute… (Hmm, sanctions against Russia are actually for Russia’s own good… :-))
Be it as it may, in view of the present sending of those 600 American GI-s to Ziobanderastan, we might end with a major war anyway…
http://russia-insider.com/en/2015/02/26/3910 Jack F Matlock former US ambassador to Soviet Union gave a speech about the “autistic” and hypocritical US foreign policy. Saker,
as a catholic I dismiss the idea of “planting catholicism” and killing, destroying Orthodox churches as the beginning of a religious fighting as well. It is another zionist lie, who would like anything better that divide even more catholics and orthodox. it is true that the polish church is still too conservative and it may welcome the uprooting of orthodox church there, but it is not a vatican plan, on the contrary Pope Francis has said that he would welcame the head of the Russian orthodox church “anywhere” to put an end to this long separation.
lsammart:
While understanding your sentiments as a fellow Catholic, unfortunately, the track record of the Vatican in this regard is not particularly positive.
“Monsignor Szeptycki believed this means a real opportunity for the revival of faith and when overtures were made by Orthodox Bishops for the union of Christian chruches, he has believed that a cherished project might come to execution … The Nazi authorities expressed their desire that Mgr. Szeptycki should be appointed as metropolitan of Kiev, capital of Ukraine … Catholic cirlces in Italy confirm that Pius XII has sent a mission, headed by Cardinal Lavitrano, Archbishop of Palermo, to investigate that ecclesiastical situation in Nazi-occupied Russia. Catholic papers outside Rome have stated that this mission was sent at the invitation of the German government with the aim of studying the possible unification of the Roman Catholic Church and the Orthodox Church.” (War Department, Special Report IDS 52, 7 October 1942, USNA, RG 226, Box 179, 23570, pp 1-3)
“The Pope was said to be in favor of an anti-communist Central European Confederation of Catholic states, `which would stretch from the Baltic to the Black Seas.'” (Unholy Trinity: The Nazis, The Vatican, and Soviet Intelligence, John Aarons and Mark Loftus, p. 181).
I.e., a united Catholic state incorporating at least Poland, Lithuania, Ukraine. And shockingly, what do we see in the background today? A Ukrainian State supported by its Catholic and schismatic Orthodox western population that is persecuting its Russian Orthodox population and reaching out to Poland and Lithuania to create a mutual defense structure.
Yes, I think Catholics need to think more about their Gods and less about their pope…the vatican is a political corporate enterprise. And always has been.
the popes all play both sides.
> ” begs the question of what is really worse for the freaks in power, a military defeat or a peace which would leave them one on one with their extremely dissatisfied population.”
.. the only solution for these people will be the third option – perpetual skirmishes, antagonism, war. Ie. no attempt to win. because that would mean losing and the the sudden exposure of reality with consequences.
