Following a similar resolution passed last week by the U.S. House, the U.S. Senate voted Thursday night to support Israel’s ongoing invasion of the Gaza Strip.
No dissenting vote was cast, and no mention was made of the hundreds of Palestinian civilians, most of whom are women and children, that have been killed by Israel in the past ten days.
Senate Resolution 498 was authored by Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC), with additional support by Ben Cardin (D-MD) and son of former Republican party politician Ron Paul, Rand Paul (R-KY).
Paul is urging the Senate to pass his own bill, S. 2265, which would end all U.S. foreign aid to the Palestinian Authority until Hamas is barred from the new Palestinian unity government, among other stipulations.
The resolution was passed on the very same night Israel launched its current ground offensive into the Gaza Strip.
The United States and Israel, this past week, signed an agreement under which $429 million of American taxpayers’ money “will be transferred immediately to Israel” to further fund the Iron Dome missile system, which has recently come under scrutiny by prize winning Israeli defense and aerospace engineering expert Dr. Moti Shefer.
Well, I guess we know who is boss now.

What words are adequate to describe the Washington Empire cess pool?
Glenn Greenwald gave an interview today on Democracy Now about how US politicians and journalists cringe with absolute fear about appearing in the slightest way anti-Israel. It was very interesting.
Never a more obvious example of who these so-called “representatives of the people” actually represent.
Wow…not one vote in opposition? The archetypal metaphor of Sodom and Gemorrah comes to mind….not one righteous man? These are dire times, indeed.
I can’t stomach this any longer. Where the *f* is the off switch to this sickening madness?
Have a good look at what you support, you ff-ing swines.

RT has been accused of biased reporting, particularly since the beginning of the Ukraine crisis last year.
Ever since the US Army’s embedded presstitude, I haven’t looked back.
It’s an election year and Senators need hundreds of millions in the big states to get re-elected.
The money comes from the Hollywood, Wall Street, Banker and big corporate and lawyer industries.
‘nuf said? You always stand with Israel even when she shoots up your ship and kills your sailors.
USS Liberty 1967.
BBC is running a long program on the tradition of holocaust remembrance and the eternal suffering of the Jewish people – while Israel is busy inflicting suffering on Palestine…
Just watched that fuking CIA asshat Mike Morrell on Charlie Rose spinning his bullshit for the sheeple. Even those without two neurons to rub together wouldn’t believe a word out of his mouth. What a duplicitous Jesuit fukwad. He couldn’t tell the truth if he wanted to. He doesn’t know the difference anymore. NO MORAL AUTHORITY.
Dear God I despise these people. They have RUINED America. May they ALL rot in hell. Charlie Rose too. For FUKS sake.
As a Jew, I find this Congressional “support” of war crimes disgusting and dehumanizing.
Okay, they own us. Now, what can we do about election reform so “our representatives” can’t get bought by ANY Big Money? Seriously — if the election season was brief, like everywhere else, there wouldn’t be so much need for advertising. Or if campaign ads themselves were limited — or nonexistent, frankly. Or if donations had to be REALLY limited, so that even the least among us would have a voice currently denied 99% of us, despite what we donate. Or what else? We’ve got to get this stuff back under OUR control, dammit.
We are NEVER going to donate ONE CENT to ANYONE who voted for this, and feel the same way about that anti-Russia bill. And unfortunately, there were a couple of people we’d rather liked. But enough already.
And yes, the USS Liberty sure does come to mind. The outrageous part of it is, We. Support. Them. and then they take our money and buy people who are supposed to represent us so they can kill even more Palestinians with utter impunity. So our tax dollars are killing people in Gaza but also enabling those responsible to bribe our leaders to ignore our wishes. And any Congresscritter who dared oppose this got marginalized/ignored or real problems getting re-elected. Enough already. We’ve financed them and put up with their crap long enough.
If the Kiev junta is responsible for the false flag of MH17 and that they worked in conjunction with Washington, then Israel would also have been privy to and part of these plans.
Hence the seemingly coincidental timing of the Gaza ground troop invasion is in fact no coincidence at all.
US: Can’t rule out Russian role in plane downing.
Time to roll out Collin Powell to do another UN magic hat trick on everyone…
For a totally different experience, switch off the sound and watch the body-language of Negroponte [the man that sits behind and to the right [for us] and to the left of Powell].
His wet dream is coming true…
Rand Paul is not Ron Paul. Ron Paul would have never voted for this. Why include Ron Paul’s name in this?
Nora, “election reform”? Really?
Democracy, republics, self government… It’s all garbage used to make you believe in their system. Don’t believe me? Read the Greeks and Romans.

It’s very overt, and has for decades: If you pay taxes to the US federal government, you support Terrorism and are every bit as complicit as these Senators. Ron Paul and Rand Paul are monsters cut from the same cloth as Tony Blair and Tony Benn. Neo-liberals falsely sold to the sheeple as libertarians.
Rand Paul, in particular, is being prepared as a very likely candidate for US President. Hillary Clinton, who lost her one chance to Obama, has been doing everything she can to promote Paul (using the same ploy of ‘reverse psychology’ that helped get Blair made PM for the first time).
Remember that the British created Israel and Saudi Arabia are like Siamese twins, and both have enjoyed universal support from Britain II (the USA) since inception. Both of these synthetic entities are absolutely evil, and inflict pure hatred on as many innocents as possible.
However, no-one can accuse the evil of Israel (and its people) or Saudi Arabia of being disguised. Both entities practise pure, unadulterated, in-your-face, demonic vileness of the most satanic variety, while the rest of the world does nothing.

“what you support” was taken off Youtube I could not see it. Maybe best so I could not get more depressed.
There really is no hope left and this is why I actually blank out now over Israel-Palestine and rarely read any articles on the subject. It’s like reading a never ending book where the tyrant murders, rapes & represses at will without ever facing ANY consequences. Even if there was global nuclear war I think Israel would come out unscathed somehow.
Look, my son, ALL countries of Latin America were exploited by the USA.
Some with many deaths and destruction, others with unimaginable loss of geniuses.
The population suffering not forget moreover, who gets slapped in the face does not forget.
One day the change (revenge) comes.
This is fact.
Do not think that what Israel is doing to the Palestinians (much like what the Germans did to them) will go unpunished.
One day the house will fall.

Could not disagree with this statement more. I’m not sure what you have against Tony Benn–as far as I recall he was against the war in Iraq, unlike Blair. But if you’re British, you’re entitled to your opinion on that one.
As a yank though, I can tell you that there’s a BIG difference between Ron and Rand Paul.
Ron was a very consistent, principled and spirited voice against war for decades. He was one the very few congressman (and practically the only Republican) to openly and routinely criticize the US Govt’s shameless butt-kissing of Israel through the years. Small wonder he was never elected president. Say what you want about his ‘Libertarian’ economic theories (he normally preferred the label ‘Constitutional Conservative’), he was always ready to work with anyone, regardless partisan affiliation, to stop the wars and bailouts.
Rand I’ve long had doubts about. And with his latest disgraceful acts of Zio-pandering, he’s outted himself as yet another Obama-style faker who just wants to be president.
Remember that the British created Israel and Saudi Arabia are like Siamese twins, and both have enjoyed universal support from Britain II (the USA) since inception.
Strongly agree with that one. Whenever someone starts up with the Jew-hate, let’s remember who it REALLY was the founded Israel (though not as an independent state): Lord Balfour. Another sneaky divide-and-rule plot brought to us be the conniving shits who ran the British Empire. The early Zionists were dupes of Balfour, who needed some ‘muscle’ to help keep the Arabs down. This was in reality no favor done to the Jews (though that’s how it was presented to them). Balfour himself is on record making patronizing, demeaning statements about the Jews. The fact that whole plot eventually blew up in Britain’s face is not much consolation for the people who live there. And yes, now Evil Empire II has taken over where part I left off.
Very good news.

Monarchy rly? Go from a system of no accountability to a system of no accountability? How does going back to monarchy change ANYTHING and who is ‘they’?
Seamus Padraig,
A major feature of Jewish culture since there first were rabbis was following without question what they said. So, for example, when German Jews were Emancipated under Napoleon, they weren’t freed from nasty German laws, they simply no longer had to follow the rulings of the rabbis and were freed to live under the same laws as any other German. But that didn’t happen in Eastern Europe until quite a bit later and the habit of blind obedience to a thought leader persisted — and subsequently shifted, if you really think about it, to, Marx, Freud, Trotsky, Fritz Perls, ad nauseum. It’s a totalitarian mindset and Gilad Atzmon has really eviscerated it among Liberals but the Right in America never questions their leaders of choice either. Back to Jews though: when Russia ended up with the Polish Pale — where most of them, deeply resented by many non-Jews, had to live by law — for whatever reasons their population exploded and there was no place for them to expand. Things got exceedingly wretched and a lot of starving, ignorant refugees entombed in an essentially pre-Medieval culture started streaming into Western Europe and embarrassing the hell out of German and Sephardic Jews there who’d long since become successfully acculturated. One or another Rothschild, I forget whom, then got the brilliant idea of giving them what they’d long been waiting for God to provide, bought up a bunch of land from the Ottomans who then occupied Palestine (what happened forty years earlier when the Ottoman Empire required land deeds from a people who trusted them so little they refused to comply is another whole story), and plopped all who were willing into a new settlement in their long-awaited homeland maybe twenty years before Herzl got his brilliant idea. But we all have our myths and tend to follow our leaders to one extent or another (Herzl being another one, of course) and, of course, blame the other guy. And yes, Jews were resented and many were victims of hate crimes (I will not use the P-word because they are hardly the only ones who had to put up with that stuff), but their real problem was hunger, and the ongoing hatred for Russia that persists in many parts of Jewish culture stems from blaming the Czar for not doing enough to correct the results of their own fecundity.
Anonymous 05:04,
You are kidding, right? History is far more replete with royal degenerates who screwed things up, erm,. royally. Our Founding Fathers were thoroughly aware of the short period of time it took for both the Greeks and the Romans to go from a kind-of democracy to demogoguery to tyranny — which is precisely why they set up a representative government with the franchise limited to property owners and plenty of what they thought would be sufficient checks-and-balances instead. Meanwhile, “Their” history certainly demonstrates over and over again that “They” did their best, in both senses of the word, by aligning with whomever is in power. And in twenty centuries plus or minus, We The People, anywhere, Ain’t Been That, even nominally, for more than a couple of hundred years.
karlof1,
The only thing that paying taxes accomplishes is keeping oneself out of prison. The US government is not funded by tax payments. It creates dollars itself. (Indeed, government spending actually funds tax payments.) So there is no point in linking tax payments to accountability. Do yourself a favor: keep paying taxes and stay out of prison.
Two reporters removed from covering Palestine after tweets critical of Israel. (Maybe slight paraphrasing) One tweeted “State Dept agrees Hamas to blame for killing of four children playing on beach- discuss”, the other “Israelis cheer missiles hitting Gaza and threaten our car if we say one word critical of Israel. Scum.” Both tweets removed promptly. That’s our free press here in Amerikkka. And to hear about the zero dissenting votes on the pro-genocide, pro-apartheid, pro-war crime, pro-hurry up and send them more of our constituents money resolution… That’s our “representative democracy” at it’s finest. Representing Israeli interests that is. When Israeli says jump, we say, “off of what? I read that somewhere, wish I could remember who said it.

The Israeli motive appears to have been revenge for the family’s role in publicizing CCTV footage of Abu Khdeir’s brutal beating at the hands of Israeli police, and their public campaign to secure his return to the US.”

Can we maybe spend some time here figuring out what we can do, starting now, to turn things around?
Those of us who aren’t trolls may not have the total picture but we certainly have enough to get its major dimensions, right? And while learning more is essential both morally and operationally, how ’bout we spend some effort reasoning out a) what we can do to change things and b) what exactly we want to end up with when we’re done. In reverse order, of course, and preferably without any Culture Wars sniping or bluster. ;~)

Well Nora, There is not much we can do until we can get over 50% of the American population to realize what is being done in our name and on whose behalf. Some of us have been trying since 9-11-2001, when we became aware of what our foreign policy relating to Israel is doing to our country, morally, financially and since 9-11 and probably again in the future, physically. We continue to speak out but to no avail, because no one, particularly in Washington is listening. Others have spoken out since the start of the apartheid policies of the zionists in Israel have increasingly treated the Palestinian people as sub human.
To help you can join If Americans Knew http://www.ifamericansknew.org/ and arrange for Alison Weir or one of her colleagues to speak at local churches, Universites and public groups in your area. She and her group who, like myself and thousands of other Americans who for years had been supportive of the Israeli people, have become aware that the zionists who run Israel could care less about their own people to say nothing of the Palestinaians, whose land they continue to steal.
All:

Please read all ~ you’ll notice that I got my undies in a wad at first when I saw the diary ~ however, as it turned out, Margo Schulter turned the diary upside down!!! Yay Margo.
Margo provides some very thorough history of the very beginnings, which certainly bear heavily upon the events of today in Palestine/Gaza. I highly recommend you read and share her posts.
There is so much disinformation circulated by the zionist machine, that we must do everything possible to counter it.
Thank you Larry for answering Nora’s post. I wish the website If Americans Knew could be duplicated and distributed to all Americans…
Carmel by the sea… thank you for your posts… I think you especially will want to read Margo’s post at the FDL diary.
Namaste to all
Lanny V Stricherz,
Mr. Nora and I have been involved in the pro-Palestinian cause for almost fifty years now, sometimes more intensely, sometimes less. Alison Weir is one of many truly wonderful people who have tried their hardest and given their best over the years — and the sum total of all that caring, all that skill, all that time and effort, by so very many people in so very many ways, was what happened yesterday.
9/11 opened a lot of people’s eyes and many more have come around since then, but the mess in Washington began WAAAY before that; it’s just careening at warp speed now and We The People have yet to find the brakes! However, it’s not at all just a matter of educating Americans about Israel, it’s a matter of focusing on how we can get Totebaggers and Teabaggers to work together to somehow regain control of the political process and get big money of all sorts out of it. Because even if 80% of us were adamantly opposed to that slow genocide and all our pols still had their hands out for campaign donations, there’d be no net difference except maybe a few fewer candidates. I.e., nothing’s going to change in any meaningful way re: Israel or anything else until no one in Washington or anywhere else genuflects to AIPAC or any other big campaign funder rather than listening to us. There’s probably a whole lot more than that we need to do than that to regain control of our government, but that’s the only way to stop Israel. And we’re hardly the only place with that problem: France banned pro-Pal protests today, banned them entirely. Zionism has become a Fifth Column in lots more places than here — but in one way, Israel’s predations, as Godawful as they are, are only symbolic of the problem, which is the capture of the institutions of representative government by forces who leave the outer shell of those institutions while using innards solely for their own purposes and all the while conning voters into fighting each other so much they never notice what’s going on. And the only way we’ll change anything done by our government at home or abroad is by working together to change that.
This only confirms the fact that Zionist choke over America is now complete. One would hope for a severe backlash of the population … but the thought control established through media and other means is so truly Orwellian that I do not see one coming anytime soon…

@ Nora,
I’m afraid Petar is right…
Everyday I beat my head against a brick wall trying to give info to a forum where I’ve posted for eons. They claim to be progressives, but unfortunately they have not progressed from the ideology of so-called Reagan Democrats (even way back then, I saw this group as mesmerized by the Reagan “grandfather figure” – they are enamored by Obama still! (How the hell can that be!) I am beginning to realize they are authoritative types that Dave Neiwert wrote so much about at his blog http://dneiwert.blogspot.com/
Check it out at his blog, it may be Sara Robinson there that covered so much. I will help you understand the problem we’re up against.
My only hope is that this giant beastly Hegemon dies soon… I think we are in WWIII now. It’s a different war… one of propaganda and disinformation and economic struggle against neo-liberalism… the US dollar is worthless… Fed keeps printing and printing ~ rest of the world is tired of us living off their backs. Hope is that Russia and the BRICS will make the world multi-polar. That is the only way to stop US, to stop Israel. If you know of another I’m interested.
Americans are soon going to be paying the price for being blind to what has been happening right under their noses… it will make the Great Depression look like a cakewalk. So, as an American I am wishing for my own poverty, my family’s poverty. But that is preferable to living in the belly of the beast. ymmv
Sent my Congressional whores for Zionism some angry emails, not that it will matter.

YES. That’s precisely where we’ve been for quite a while now. The issue isn’t recognizing that things suck, it’s figuring out where in all the suckitude are the best places to intervene and change it. Learning, teaching others, well, yes, But. Then. What.?? Things still won’t change until we change them (and no, guns are not the only option.)
Sara Robinson and Dave Niewert put out that Authoritarian stuff years ago (someone else too but I don’t remember his name) and they were spot-on not only about the Radical Right, which was their focus, but the Left too, just in slightly different ways. But that’s precisely my point, you see: I’m a totally data-driven person and try not to state anything I can’t back up, but collecting and analyzing data and developing a framework within which to plug more is just *the first step*. Teaching others still only gets them to that same place, but the problems we face aren’t simply our own ignorance, or even what I keep harping on here about falling into Culture Wars and fighting among ourselves.
The real problem is that we don’t focus on the real problem, and Nothing. At. All. will change until we decide on and then take concrete steps to change the underlying structure of how this country now works both politically and economically. We have an oligarchy run by people for their own benefit, not ours, and they have essentially complete control of all the levers of power, hence over all the decisions being made. How do we regain some say in the matter? And reading about and learning more about it, and teaching others, won’t magically change a bit of it: yesterday’s vote was absolute, concrete proof of that. And doing more of the same (which, as I said, Mr. Nora and I have been doing for a loooong, loooong time now) and expecting different results is actually not a definition of schizophrenia at all, clinically-speaking, but unfortunately it’s a pretty good one of stupidity and I just don’t want to spend any more of my time doing anything that has been proven to have no net effect. That said, keeping abreast of the news and finding and passing along the facts is something an involved citizen should never stop doing; it’s just not going to make a difference until we also take other concrete steps to change things. And we need to figure out how.
Rudy M,
It won’t. At best you’ll get an auto-signed form letter. Phone calls at least get tallied if they’re at all worried about re-election. Letters to the editor of your local news rag might open a couple of eyes; there’s a real art to doing it though, it’s not as easy as you think.
Nora, You have hit on the crux of the problem. Those on the right think it is those on the left who are to blame for the situations that we find ourselves in, while those on the left think it is the fault of those on the right.
A little bit of introspection on both sides and demanding that money gets taken out of the equation is the only thing that can get us back on the course that we all desire.
Lanny V Stricherz,
THANK YOU!!! It’s a joy to see that someone else gets it too! This thing just keeps getting uglier and uglier and we’ve really got to roll up our sleeves and get going trying to fix it.
Further thoughts?
This just flew across the wire…
Kerry Slams Gaza Incursion: ‘It’s a Hell of a Pinpoint Operation’:
U.S. secretary of state speaks candidly to his advisers, without noticing open
By Haaretz.
July 20, 2014 “ICH” – “Haaretz” – U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry was caught on open mic speaking to one of his advisors on Sunday, saying sarcastically “It’s a hell of a pinpoint operation,” referring to Israel’s operation in Gaza.
“We’ve got to get over there,” he said, just before an interview for Fox News Sunday. “We ought to go tonight. I think it’s crazy to be sitting around.”
Earlier it was reported that Kerry was set to arrive in the Middle East on Monday to promote efforts for a cease-fire between Israel and Gaza. Kerry was slated to land in Cairo, and head for Israel on Tuesday.
In an interview for NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Kerry said Israel “has every right in the world to defend itself” from attacks by Hamas militants in Gaza, but the U.S. is working diligently to get an immediate cease-fire in place.
Kerry said Israel long has endured rocket attack by Hamas, and no nation “would sit there while rockets are bombarding it.”
Kerry also cited tunnels constructed by Hamas in what he said was “an obvious effort” to try to kidnap Israelis.

This is a great thread. I have been reading on the left and the right now for years. The people share far more common concerns than differences. I have concluded that the culture war is something Washington and its agents have worked to create over time. Some of what we see there is political theatre and I believe it is intended to foster stereotypes that help to solidify these artificial divisions. It is a divide and conquer strategy and they are brilliant at it. As Saker said, the West is very astute at manipulating perception.
Only the libertarian sector, which I believe is growing larger all the time, is free of this. They reject both parties and understand the manipulation. The sanity is to be found with this group.
Rand Paul betrayed libertarian principles with this vote. As the son of Ron Paul, he was perhaps our best hope. Is a terrible pity. It not well-known that the core principle of libertarianism is the non-violence principle (NVP). All other libertarian beliefs are built on this concept.
