This is the first time that I am posting an analysis in the form of a video. Actually, two separate videos glued together and subtitled thanks to Eugenia (to whom I extended a heartfelt thank you!!). The person in this video is Ruslan Ostashko, the very sharp and articulate editor in chief of the website PolitRussia.com and its YouTube channel.
I have been subscribed to the Polit Russia YouTube channel for a while now, and I have been listening to Ostashko on various Russian TV talk shows for a while now (Russian speakers can check his LiveJournal page here and his ruexpert page here). I find him, along with Sergei Mikheev, one of the best current political commentators in Russia and so I decided to share his views with you.
Check out the video below were he comments on, first, the notion of a war with NATO in 2017 and on the recent Eurovision scam. In a way, these topics are linked as they both could be filed under “the West is full of sh*t” heading. But, most importantly, what is very characteristic of the views of Ostashko is the calm confidence which he feels in this country. Whether it be the saber-rattling of NATO generals, or the fantastic dishonesty of the Eurovision scam, what people in the West need to realize is that, more than anything else, these infantile provocations, far from triggering fear, or anger, mainly trigger a reaction of disgust, like when you touch something smelly and dirty. Frankly, and this is not a politically correct thing to say, many, probably most, Russians feel a strong sense of contempt for an adversary the cannot respect.
A well-known Russian saying is “Люблю молодца и в татарине” which means “I love the courageous man even in the Tatar” (the Tatars were amongst the most formidable adversaries the Russians ever had to face). When looking at today’s Ukraine, Poland, Germany, the UK and the rest of the EU – the Russians don’t feel that they are faced with an adversary they can respect (or even take seriously). There still is some respect for the USA in Russia, but for Europe – none.
See for yourself in the video below.
Cheers,
The Saker
Thanks Saker, I enjoyed Ostashko’s presentation and mischievous sense of humor.
Excellent video, well worth watching, as Ostashko put it all very plainly and clearly.
Dear The Saker,
Thank you for posting this.
The fact that the imbecile Philip Hammond (according to news on RT today) is even attacking the ex NATO general and his book says it all……
Rgds,
Veritas
Thanks Saker, I enjoyed that.
Russia Trolling next year’s Eurovision with its entry would be brilliant. For the first time I might actually watch it.
Actually, the Russian word татарин meant a foreigner from the east in this context. Just like the nowadays word немец initially meant a European, a westerner. So the meaning of the phrase is that Russians value courage even in outsiders, people of other cultures.
and yet there is a reason why the German is called the “dumb” (as in deaf and dumb) one in Russian, he is the guy who does not understand, and there is a reason why a Tatar is a prototypical courageous foe. The choice of nationalities is far from random and the Russians had a huge selection options. There is nothing random about these choices of prototypes. Russians new which cultures to respect for courage and which did not deserve such respect (I think of the “greedy hyena of Europe” for example).
Cheers!

Very good analysis. Thank you The Saker and particularly Mr. Ruslan Ostashko. Please post more when you can. Hasta la vista.
I really enjoyed this 5 minute thoughtful comment-show. I would love to see this as a regular feature on this site!
Another heartfelt thank you to Eugenia!
Brilliant analysis by Ostashko. And yes, the best part about it is the cool, calm and analytical approach assumed by the speaker. These Euro-cucks are definitely not worth Russia’s wrath. They are only worthy of contempt, and even pity.
“They see Russian businessmen as little more than third-rate white trash”.
True as it gets.
Il est super, ce mec ! (This guy is great!).
Thank you Saker for letting us discover someone so politically, verbally, and humorously astute as Ostashko.
Thank you to the translator too, well done!
I felt good from his words. But while I totally agree with his points on Eurovision. And think he is right about the General being a self-server. Even a self-server can be right at times. But I would turn the General’s words around. And say it’s NATO that could start a war against Russia in 2017.The two points the video author missed. Are that NATO put this man in his position of power. Which means we are dealing with the same type of mindset, thinking, from NATO that the General has.Second,he leaves out the Clinton factor. If she ascends the US throne in 2017 (as is highly likely,no matter what we hear.Though I’d be happy if that is wrong). Then the possibly of a general war is greatly enhanced. She (I believe),and those around her,are neo-con warmongers. Her entire career (and mindset I believe) is a litany of Russophobia and US “exceptionalism”.As the saying would go “she never met a war she didn’t like”.Is it a “coincidence” that the General gives 2017 has a year the war would start.Or is there some thinking on his part that a new Russophobic US neo-con President is a good bet to provoke a World War (all US rulers must appear Russophobic at times. But having one like Clinton that is a believer in that ideology is another matter entirely).
Excellent and thanks for posting and the translation. Re Eurovision, he made me laugh as I’ve been saying to all my friends that the Ukrainians will be propped up by various European countries and the money will disappear into a black hole. Ha ha. Good luck with that Europe. I didn’t watch Eurovision this year as was sick of the audience booing Russia (I think there is probably a high percentage of LGBT in the audience – it’s a very camp event – and they’ve been led to believe that Russia is a living hell for the LGBT community). It’s a shame he generalises a bit about Europeans – I think the popular vote for Russia and the fact the Russian woman came second last year show that ordinary Europeans don’t swallow the propaganda they are being fed, or are more fair than we think. I saw someone once saying “Don’t mistake media opinion for popular opinion…” V true. Russia should send Pussy Riot to Eurovision next year, possibly singing a song about Bandera?
Regarding LGBT. Europeans have a very short memory and just swallow everything that is being fed to them. Russia had an entry in 2002(or thereabouts) with a duet Tattoo, two lesbian girls. This year’s Lazarev is apparently a gay. But European public is being told that Russia is very, very homophobic.
Russians seeing the duplicity of the West is a first stage to the understanding of their own self-deception based on introjecting hidden self-subverting values. Russians are learning the lesson of taking care of themselves. But unless it is True Care they won’t arrive anywhere that is worthwhile.
The icon to my right as I write proclaims the true path loud and clear in the auric field but it requires a remedial education not taught in schools to receive. Don’t worry if you can’t understand the words since it is a matter of love. Love has her own reasons and seasons.
Trust your comment. Did not undertand a word of it.
There is no western culture any more. That “multicultural” is hate each other with a vengeance but all etnicities fall over each other to buy Apple products.
Would’nt know about the EU song festival due to not owning a TV for years, what is the point!!
Sadly enough it will mean no more Bach – Mozart – Leibnitz – van Eyck – Einstein – Shakespeare ect…
Propably we can read “Mein Kampf” over and over again and do lots of kalliegrafie.
I beg you Russia if EU and Russia come to blows do take all the museum belongings back to Russia. Please save as much as you can of that once beautifull western culture that in my 60 years of life dwindeld to nothing!!!!!

I just hope Trump wins in November. As I see it, Trump’s less likely to get us into a war than Clinton, whose behavior as Secretary of State suggests that she has a mania for regime change, and whose lack of tolerance for disagreement and criticism would make her an extremely dangerous commander in chief.
That’s exactly what JMG said on the Arch Druid Report. What a coincidence!
The US elites and their allies will brook no resistance to their global dominion.
I don’t think uk politicians are capable of understanding such irony and wit sadly……….really wish there was much more of this type of thing and Solyev? type programmes translated into english somewheres…………….Kazakstan has some incredible folk songs, lets have one of these for eurovision 2017!
