They’re still takking?
What for?
Whos going to pay the insurance damages, not the Russians.
Because it’s better than shooting.
Not when the result of not shooting is further NATO enroachment on Russia’s soil.
Nations have armies for a reason.

It’s called high level politics. Had Russia refused negotiations, no matter how useless they might be, it would have been accused of premeditated aggression against Ukraine and the West. Russia is playing it smart, limiting the number of cards the West can play against it.
It’s called high level bulls**t.
The West does not care for the amount of cards they have at the talking table. Limiting them or not accomplishes nothing.
The time for talks has ended. Russia needs to act. It does not have to be the incursion into Ukraine. Any hostile action can do the trick.
Dumping the USD, wiping out the “moderates” in Syria for real, or selling S-400 to Iran are all options on the table. Just stop talking, please. It’s useless.
“The West does not care ..”
“Exceptionalists” tend to assign importance to themselves which others do not assign to them.
As Mr. Shakespeare observed “All the world is a stage ………”
Russians …..doing both…talk and show of their military power….you apparently did not watch non MSM news…power of 1000 Hiroshima bombs……
I realize that they have to maintain the veneer of pragmatism but this is a complete waste of time. Even if the US were to give written assurances (which I am pretty sure they won’t because Blinken already said the US would not), they will simply tear the documents up in a week, a month, a year or whenever it suits their purposes.
“I realize that they have to maintain the veneer of pragmatism but this is a complete waste of time. “
“Any nation’s leader would be a fool to allow anyone from NED within their borders.”
From the 1990’s onwards the prescence of NED and associates was useful in decreasing measure in facilitating the frustration of the purposes of NED and associates until that facilitation no longer facilitated the purposes of The Russian Federation.
Practices of seeking attribution as in “We won the Cold War…” ,”See we are exceptional”, “Full spectrum dominance” and “The end of history” were components in the facilitation of the opponents’ complicities.
Omniscience is never possible in any interaction and so there was a “difference of opinion” on velocity of decrease in utility, but the general concept had been accepted/agreed in the early 1970’s when the Politburo believed in detente on the bases of influence whilst others did not, nor did/do they believe that they were/are “exceptional” and/or were/are perceived as such, thereby facilitating the complicity of some of the Politburo.
“The USA is a society in which its children are forced to place their hands on their chests and recite a pledge of allegiance “
“”With No Progress In Talks Russia Will Have To React”
Most practices in the coercive social relations self-misrepresented as “The United States of America” are attempts to reinforce conformance and immersion in methods/perceptions which facilitate conformance, as has been the case from inception “We the people hold these truths to be self-evident” refers, or Mr. Simon’s song My little town, if you prefer.
Some attempting to reinforce conformance tend to the view that the “benefits” of doing so accrue solely to themselves, an illusion reinforced by derivatives of “exceptionalism”.
However the benefits of their efforts also accrue to their opponents particularly in matters of “perception management” – sometimes known as the one does the set-up; and one does the strike routine.
A useful tool in “perception management” is to act in a way that you always intended to act at a time when you intended to act, which the opponent will “interpret” as being in reaction to something that he has done, the content of which being a function of “exceptionalism” and projection.
Another useful tool is to do nothing when your opponent expects you to react and allow the lacunae to be bridged by the opponents beliefs – an example of opponents bridging doubt by belief to attain self-confirmation – a tool that is consistently resorted to in present contexts, when evangelised known as “fake news”, Mr. Rove’s observation on “We are an Empire..” refers, although Mr. Rove apparently omitted behaviours such as impatience and tendencies of premature ejaculations predicated upon attempts at increasing the noise/signal ratio.
Therefore : Slanted Reporting Can Lead to Good Foreign policies for others with facility.
For the 1995 Russian Presidential election, those who had “generously” donated a Constitution also financed the services of “international marketing experts” to ensure the election of Mr. Yeltsin thereby increasing Mr. Putin’s and others’ opportunities from 1999 onwards.
Yes Yes dont worry be happy
Lavrov answer to a proposed meeting with Blinken in Geneva should have been, “after your administration written response, if it acceptable to us”. Not good optics in going now.
The United States was a superior force, and then it was the Proud, but now that it is no longer a force, they are becoming Insidious. Because everything is contrary to the views of the government, but still stick to those views, they do not seem to see reality, and they are lost in their delusion, that they are still superior, and in every measurable thing they are brutally true that they are under Russia, many weaker than Russia. And how Moscow can make these people see reality, and Putin has repeatedly led them to see, but they have not. And that’s a problem if they’re insidious, but it’s much worse if they don’t really see it.
We are coming to the point in history that will define years to come, for better or worse.
May God help us all.
what if, as mentioned in another comment, advanced Russian engineers had demanded from Putin and the Russian deep state this proposal to the west, before deploying an invincible destruction system? It’s a very reasonable argument. Good reflection to consider. What has Russian military engineering theory already proved capable of? And we also know that Putin has undisclosed weapons. Something to think about and consider. It’s hard to read between the lines. The West and Ukraine are failing to read between the lines. Poland is silent, quiet, and Germany wants to spread its legs, softening with Russia, despite its clumsy and schizophrenic diplomacy. Lots of fire and heat behind the scenes of western power.
Armchair generals of this blog, I do not think that there will be the war you seem to be craving for. That’s an American mindset not being shared in the rest of the world. You believe in force only and that’s sad.
Which state would start a war knowing it will be lost?
Which state will send proxies into a war if the repercussions would be highly damaging?
Which state will openly admit to not having the means to seriously put pressure on the opponent? China has Russia’s back and Iran might attack (again) in the Persian Gulf.
Now what is the reason for the hysteria of the West about the imminent Russian invasion of Ukraine? They know that it’s not going to happen. All Russia will do ist to protect the Donbass against defeat.
In my view (and hope) it’s a face saving way out of the dangerous confrontation they have allowed themselves to create. There may be, will be an agreement fulfilling Russia’s serious and understandable demands. And thereafter the whole political West and the media will congratulate themselves that they have saved the Ukraine from the evil Russkies.
This is what rational thinking would predict.
“And thereafter the whole political West and the media will congratulate themselves that they have saved the Ukraine from the evil Russkies.”
The fall-back position is wider than that.
“The United States of America” is a net of coercive social relations not restricted to a “nation state” assigned the same name encouraging conflation.
The conflation is attempting to convince others within their nets that “The United States of America” (plural) still have relevance, and to facilitate that by highlighting an intent of others which was never intended, and frustrating that attempt which was never intended by not engaging in “fighting”, whilst hoping that Ukraine will follow advice based on “friendship”, as did Mr. Hussein in invading Kuwait, and invade their neighbour.
However the “Ukrainians” are baulking at the prospect – even comedians.
For the militants, they are invited to share the fate of Mr. Bandera thereby cauterising loose ends in the hope that they can be elevated to “sainthood” for future use, in scenarios other than “colour revolutions”.
The hope/fall back position is Oceania facilitated by Eurasia.
You forget that the CIA, the neocons and the Ukie neo-Nazi nationalists are not “rational”. They are ideologically-driven Russia haters pursuing a pointless and irrational agenda regardless of any objective consequences.
As for the rest of the Western political establishment, as Andrei Martyanov says, they are people with no comprehension of the economic and military realities. In short, they’re idiots living in a bubble they’ve created with no relation to reality.
Or there is a relation, they just haven’t found it.
What about the other Four Eyes?
And I’m not even certain it’s exclusive to US Americans – I’ve seen similar attitudes even in the Russian-language internet as well, although we may never know whether the ‘armchair generals’ are actually Russian (some may be, but others, I dunno).
May I leave aside the seriousness of it all and replace it with sarcasm: if the Russian delegation is truly optimistic about any western empty promise, If it isn’t highly professional diplomatic spin, I really want to try the drug they’re on, cause man, it must be awesome! ( Disclaimer: I do not use drugs of any kind and discourage people to self medicate with drugs)
To get back on topic: “The West I dead”. Greatness news since 1492. Word seem useless now, only the coming events…
It has taken nearly 27+ years for Russia to see that NATO is a “weapon of confrontation” to capture it and loot its resources, and is a security threat. Let’s see how Russia will achieve security and sovereignty.
“NATO was designed to keep the Russians out, the Americans in, and the Germans down. This statement, made by one of the participants during the discussion, succinctly… summed up the purpose of NATO to date in one word: Russia.”
– 1995 Bilderberg Meeting
Russia hasn’t achieved victories in those 27+ years to address its security, threats and confront the Empire. It sees its adversaries as a partner even though they have challenged Russia in Georgia (08.08.08), Ukraine, NS2, Syria,… Russia has cooperated with Israel and Zionist, who seems to be driving the U$A’s strategy. Please share how Russia’s strategic partners in Israel will help it. Lavrov continues his talk without any substantial ROI. He should meet Blinken after a written response. The Empire ignores Russia’s security proposals using the bait of talks. Where is Russia going?
ROI:
R – Results (short-term task result)
O – Outcomes (medium-term accomplishment)
I – Impact (Long-term goals)
Russia’s ROI?
“Biden could merely be buying time. The US has a long record of zigzagging and not sticking to international agreements… Strobe Talbott, the original choreographer of NATO expansion in the post-cold war order, triumphantly congratulated Blinken and Jake Sullivan for cornering Russia! Suffice to say, the Clinton Team of Russophobes is steering Russia relations and their dubious agenda all along has been to finish off Russia!”

“It has taken nearly 27+ years for Russia to see that NATO is a “weapon of confrontation” to capture it and loot its resources, and is a security threat.”
That was understood in 1949 by “The Soviet Union” and has been known since then.
That “The Soviet Union” had been at war with the coercive social relations self-misrepresented as “The United States of America” was understood from 1922, despite which some of the “Red experts” in the Politburo in the period from 1964 until the early 1980’s thought that detente on the bases of “spheres of influence” was a possibility in 1970, despite the advice of others who had already set in motion from 1969 onwards strategies in preparation for the implosion of “The Soviet Union” due to various factors, also understood by others outside the Soviet Union including Mr. Paul Craig Roberts by 1971.
Thank you for your ignorance which proved very helpful during the 1990’s especialy during the presidency of Mr. Clinton which still is part of the reasons why his partner remains annoyed/perplexed.
The Russians, from the start of the Ultimatums, have been writing in Bold, highlighting in Yellow, dotting the ‘i’s” and crossing the ‘t’s”. It is all legalistics. When they move, it will be a legal move.
The distraction is Ukraine-Donbass.
The threat to Russia is not Ukraine. The threat is US missile launchers, cruise missiles, intermediate ballistic missiles, B-61 nuclear gravity bombs, UAVs, drone bombers all based within Eastern Europe and close to Russia.
Punching Ukraine in the nose won’t change the NATO/US threat.
Russia has prepared the West for something that will force a NATO retreat.
Russia has escaped a color revolution and regime change by assassination of Belarus, followed by a color revolution-coup in Kazakhstan. These were serious incursions, aggressions against Russia, no less than against the primary nations themselves. The Union State and the EAEU/CIS/CSTO were targets in these attempts to destabilize Russia by affect.
Payback is long due.
It will be strategic, not just tactical.
well….neocons/neolibs are very nervous because they can not “read” mind of VVP- agree with you it will be -strategic payback….after 27 yrs. expansion toward EAST they deserve lesson……
Blinken eyes in full hate mode tonight though he said in Kyev according to bbc
“Mr Blinken said Russia had built up troops near Ukraine’s borders with “no provocation, no reason”.
“We know that there are plans in place to increase that force even more on very short notice, and that gives President [Vladimir] Putin the capacity, also on very short notice, to take further aggressive action against Ukraine,” he said.
He accused Russia of trying to weaken Ukraine’s diplomatic institutions and divide Ukrainian society “using everything from election interference to disinformation to cyber attacks”.
He pledged “relentless diplomatic efforts to prevent renewed aggression and to promote dialogue and peace”, and repeated a warning of tough sanctions against Russia in the event of an invasion…….”
sounds like the persecution continues amidst the projections of their falsehoods but psychotic schizophrenic belief of their own “innocence”
zerohedge reports
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is attempting to calm his population amid persisting and breathless international media reports that over 100,000 Russian troops are set for an “invasion” of Ukraine “at any point” – as the White House has been claiming.
He gave a speech Wednesday toward that end, bluntly calling the current Russia-Ukraine standoff driven by “hype” while urging calm among the Ukrainian citizenry. “The risks have not just existed for a day, and they have not become bigger. The only thing that has become bigger is the hype around them,” Zelensky said.

points out that USA military wants a lot lot more missiles and expenditure about 2 trillion worth on top of the enormous failures so far.
Biden’s comment about “minor incursions” may have been intentional.
I’m optimistic that Russia’s actions in the coming days and weeks will be more than satisfactory.
The military cant really afford to sit on these weapons for too long just to have them become obsolete by the time they need to be used.
Flip um quick, fill another order, and you wont get rich digging another ditch, but switch to weapons and now ur talkin real money.
He accused Russia of trying to weaken Ukraine’s diplomatic institutions and divide Ukrainian society “using everything from election interference to disinformation to cyber attacks”.
LoLs! Gag-worthy indeed.
They will accuse YOU of what THEY are doing. it all becomes so predictable and transparent.
If the US wants a war they can have one, but Russia wants a immediate and verified stop on import of offensive
weapons in Ukraine and in Poland and Romania as well. If the US wants to go to war over this, so be it.
Russia is not trying to reconstitute the USSR, and invade the Ukraine or Estonia or Latvia, or Lithuanian or Poland or Romania or East Germany … They just want the relentless offensive movement of missiles and forces that menace Russia, five minutes missile fly time from Moscow, to stop, and to forbid Ukraine from NATO.
So, as they used to say in the school yard, to an opponent about to start a fight, Russia can say — if you are feeling froggy, jump.
Yury Bardakhchiev explains that NATO expansion is a multi-generational strategy that will proceed apace–regardless of any “security guarantees” that the NATO (temporarily) promises to Russia.
Bardakhchiev further states that NATO expansion was originally called the “Anakonda Rings” and was designed to encircle Russia. This strategy dates back to the end of World War 2.
Moreover, some Russian elites are so blinded by their desire to assimilate into the West that they do not want to see the dangers of optimistically believing NATO promises.
Some relevant quotes from Bardakhchiev:
“NATO expansion is a fundamental process, a long-term one, designed not for a year or even a decade.” Yury Bardakhchiev explains. “This is a fundamental strategy of the alliance which dates back to the post-war period and consists in encircling Russia by the chain of military bases as tightly as possible.”
He pointed out that this strategy was once called Anakonda Rings. “Now, perhaps, it is called otherwise, but its essence has not changed. So it seems to me that no agreement, even written down and legally binding, will cancel this strategy,” he specified.
The expert stressed that the West can give Russia some guarantees, but it is unlikely to comply with them. “Russia is too huge and strong and therefore scary for the West to trust any guarantees,” Yury Bardakhchiev explained.
Expert: NATO expansion is a strategy; no guarantees will cancel it

Great interview.
Konstantin Gavrilov sounds like a straight-talking man, just the kind of personality required for dealing with the nitty gritty of arms control.
The anecdote about Tsar Alexander III, the Austro-Hungarian ambassador and the bent silver fork is interesting; all the more remarkable since there were no major wars during his reign. Perhaps Sergey Lavrov should bring along a fork with him and recount the tsar’s story when he meets Blinken who probably understands graphic demonstrations better than diplomatic language.
Just read that Biden put a rush on the shipment of weapons into the Ukraine. Boy, do they ever want their war badly.
It doesn’t leave one confident that the US and NATO are in any way interested in Russia’s requests to negotiate and agree on the terms of security guarantees.
My guess is the talks in Vienna scheduled for tomorrow will yield no progress. Its just stalling Russia while they get into position.
