Here are some of the figures which Michael Moore gave to Amy Goodman today on Democracy Now:
This is the way it is now in this country. The wealthiest one percent right have more financial wealth than the bottom 95 percent combined. When you have a situation like that, where the one percent essentially not only own all the wealth, but own Congress, call the shots, are we really telling the truth when we call this a democracy?

The number one reason, it turns out, that people lose their homes is because of medical bills. It’s the number one cause of foreclosure and the number one cause of bankruptcies in this country. And we’re at a point right now where one in eight homes are either in delinquency or foreclosure, homes with mortgages, and there’s a foreclosure filing in this country once every seven-and-a-half seconds. Every seven-and-a-half seconds there’s a foreclosure filing in this country. I mean, this is a crisis.

You know, I can’t stand the nightly news with that Dow Jones average they always show to report how well the wealthy are doing on Wall Street and how it’s climbing every day, etc., etc., and there’s never any indicators about what’s happening to people in their daily lives, the bulk of the people in this country, the 14,000 yesterday who lost their health insurance and the 14,000 who will lose their health insurance today and tomorrow and the day after that. Where’s that index?
How long will this insane obscenity go on?
The Saker
Watch the full interview:
The wealthy have forgotten that they are just another part of the pyramid. If the obscenely rich think that the rest of the pyramid can be cut out from under them and they can remain at the top they are in for a rude shock. Don’t tell the rich but those piles of fiat currency are soon to be Weimar wheelbarrow fodder.
The wealhy, the really wealthy, are members of a clique that has no nation. Stateless cash and investments break any fealty with any particular country (unless it’s Israel for some reason). They can move anywhere in the globe, and they won’t waste any time worrying about the regression to a world mean for lower and middle class workers in the US. You can’t make them care. You pick your clan affiliation. Chinese make fifty cents an hour can’t compete with the American that needs or thinks he needs 10 bucks an hour to buy housing and food and transportation. Mexicans make $1.50 per hr. If you are in the stateless international capitalism crowd, and you find your sense of belonging and national destiny, security, and wealth not tied to the US mope on Main street in Detroit, well there is no argument you can make to them to change things. Some of these elites might pay service to left wing causes because that is part of their class identity, but their dream is of international scope. Right has also this strain of pure international capitalism because it’s who they are too. So right or left, their fate lies with international capitalism. Within that, if you are Jewish, there is room for fealty to Israel. Maybe if you are Catholic, you feel that tug as well. If not, the main loyalty, the class identity, is international capitalism. The book
“The Jewish Century” is most interesting.
Lets face it, the really wealthy, if they are Right, Left, Jewish, Or even Economic Nationalists, are in a different clan. They just are.
