Greetings to the Saker community and readers.
In his book 1984, George Orwell wrote the following on how to rule over people:
He paused, and for a moment assumed again his air of a schoolmaster questioning a promising pupil: ‘How does one man assert his power over another, Winston?’
Winston thought. ‘By making him suffer,’ he said.
‘Exactly. By making him suffer. Obedience is not enough. Unless he is suffering, how can you be sure that he is obeying your will and not his own? Power is in inflicting pain and humiliation. Power is in tearing human minds to pieces and putting them together again in new shapes of your own choosing.
…
If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face — for ever.’
Yet in the eastern borderland of the EU, something unimaginable has happened: a government has asked its people if they liked a deal offered by the Master. And the people of the country, especially the young people, voted a resounding NO.
The most astonishing fact is that the NO came in spite of fierce opposition: Every single private television station and 99% of private newspapers and radio stations, the ECB, the IMF, Eurogroup, the European Commission, Greek Central Bank, the aristocracy, the palace (Greece used to be a Monarchy until 1974), hedge funds, ship owners, a good part of the star system. All these tried to terrorise the people and failed.
Reaction was immediate; first the low level stooges and gradually shifting to the big guns (courtesy of the live coverage of RT):
The head of Germany’s savings bank association (DSGV), Georg Fahrenschon, told Reuters that Greece has broken the rules of the eurozone by saying ‘No’ to the bailout, and should now leave the currency bloc.
Greece might be better off outside the single currency, Hans Michelbach, a senior German conservative lawmaker said, commenting on early results from the referendum that indicated Greeks are likely to reject the eurozone’s bailout terms.
“Now one has to ask the question whether Greece would not be better off outside the eurozone,” Michelbach from the Bavarian Christian Social Union (CSU) told Reuters.
“Unfortunately, Greece has chosen a path of isolation,” he said, adding that if the ‘No’ vote won there would be no reason to aid the country further.
“The last bridges on which Greece and Europe could have moved towards a compromise” have been “torn down” by Greek PM Alexis Tsipras’s Sunday referendum, German Economy Minister Sigmar Gabriel told the Tagesspiegel daily, as cited by Reuters.
Having rejected the rules of the Eurozone, Greece has made talks on a new bailout program “barely conceivable,” the minister, who is also the leader of Germany’s Social Democrats (SPD) party, said.
With Tsipras’s government, the country is en route to “bitter abandonment and hopelessness,” the German official added.
The top comment of this terror campaign though came from Martin Schulz, the president of the European Parliament: Mr Schulz earlier called for the elected Syriza government to be replaced by “technocrat” rule until stability is restored.
Who will be doing the replacing Mr. Schulz? And how?
So – Greeks voted NO, the EU got a slap on the face, what next?
The Empire started to strike back. Already the ECB stated that Greek debt held by the European Central Bank cannot be restructured as that would amount to the ECB financing a government, which is explicitly banned by EU rules.
And the first “casualty” appears to be Mr. Varoufakis. I believe that his removal is a political move to buy more time. After all his replacement; Mr. Tsakalotos has already been running the negotiations for some time. Note that Mr. Varoufakis is still an MP with Syriza and has every right to speak and vote at the Parliament.
Many people, especially economists argue that the best course of action for Greece is to leave Euro and issue its own currency. But Mr. Tsipras cannot do that at this moment, even if he wants to. The simple reason is that the people are not ready; the referendum vote was clearly not a command to leave the Euro let alone the EU. His best bet is to be seen to be negotiating a fair deal (hence the “removal” of Mr. Varoufakis) while at the same time preparing the country for an exit from the Euro and issuing its own currency. I do believe he gambles on the German (primarily) and every EU bureaucrat arrogance; that whatever proposal he prepares, no matter how logical or submissive it is, it will not be enough. In the meantime, he will be implementing Plan B (I believe he has some form of support / assurance from Russia and / or BRICS) which will primarily consist of preparing the people for an exit from the EU as well as the country; you cannot go to a new currency in a single day.
If he can hold long enough that the people of Greece to see and feel the vindictiveness from the Empire, then they will ask themselves to leave Euro.
Unless of course the unthinkable happens and the rest of the people or Europe rise up to the oppressing unelected Eurocrats themselves.
There is just a MAJOR problem, the banks can’t remain closed forever. The decision will have to be taken this coming sunday at the UE ”super special summit” in Brussels. Why are countries not in the eurozone taking part to this meeting?Very strange no?I guess it is because they will have to take a very important decision.Washington(and the Imf…yes) is pushing very hard for Merkel to accept a haircut because otherwise it is impossible for Greece to recover one day.The germans and the usual suspects(baltic states,Poland etc)are for the Grexit. The southern countries against because they know they will be the next targets after Greece exits. The US/UK banksters don’t care about Greece but are just afraid of some kind of Lehman 2.0 next monday.Very strange today Wall Street was closed during a few hours after a solid plunge…because of an ‘IT’ problem…hum hum…
I don’t buy that explanation.Even worse Soros is attacking no less than Chinese Markets(they lost 30 pct in a few weeks)also very strange ‘timing’ just when the Brics and Sco are meeting in Ufa.
The oil price is once again collapsing. What are these idiots and banksters still preparing in the shadow?
I think they want to make once and for all an ‘example’ of Greece.See these bastards they voted NO to the EU,we let them fallen in an ‘argentina like’ free fall bankruptcy.
No they lost everything.Which of course they will be very happy to repeat to the Spaniards, the Portuguese and the Irish(who will have general elections soon with lookalike Syriza parties, like Podemos…).
Second theory, machiavelic…Tsipras and Varoufakis are just ‘fake’ opposition, they are playing a script to krach Greece…for the EU as double agents.
Or Tsipras surrender sunday, accepts a new bailout, new austerity(even worse than before) and no haircut though no hope at all for a brighter future. If he does that,he is finished which may also be the goal of the all operation since last february.
Former pro banksters ND,Pasok,T Potami(?)political parties come back or take power together as pro EU/US/NATO etc…anti Putin of course.Turk stream via Greece is then dead.
Or Tsipras is realy a new Charles de Gaulle, and he exits from the EZ…but only 4 days left.
Nationalizing the banks including the ‘national bank'(Rothchild’s will not be happy at all),print IOU’s then new drachma….but take care of the snipers who will not be very far from Tsipras after that.
A ‘coup’ is even possible as the financial coup failled, the people voted no (oxi).
What woul be the people reaction(this happening in very high touristic season)?Very bad propaganda for the EU,this would be the final proof that is EU is simply a dictatorship.
These UE MP’s puppets voted for the Tafta..today(also very strange). They are rushing suddenly to let this Tafta pass through in july, when all people are on the beach…as usual they make their dirty work in your back.
The kleptos are in full panic mode, just read some MSM articles…they are still insulting the Greeks like if they were animals.
They dont ”deserve” to be ”european”..it reminds me the Ukies treating(in words for the moment)the people of the Donbass like second class people.
Don’t forget that there is a good 15 pct nazi vote in Greece, and much more in the Army/police.
Anything can happen.
My intuition,I don’t trust Tsipras too much…wait and see.
I hope Greek people will not be betrayed one more time, mainly the poors who don’t deserve that at all.
They will be betrayed, just see Varoufakis’ biography and his Family status, ho ho ho (Big money, his wife’s).
Also if SYRIZA wanted to be Democratic they would asked the Big Media to PAY their Obligations, at the moment they running free service from the Tax Payer.
Also small ANTI-Austerity Parties and Movements are blocked by the Media en mass.
Too many other inconsistencies to list here.
Half of the PASOK Party are now SYRIZA Ministers they cannot reform EVER.
The new finance minister is Euclid Tsakalotos.
He’s married to Heather Gibson, Scottish.
She worked for JP Morgan and Blackrock if I’m correct. And now she advises the Greek Central Bank.
This could mean nothing, but I dunno.
@ Michel
Totally agree. The guy was born in western Europe, did all his studies at Oxford. That means that his family is loaded, and he says that he is a communist? He is a member of hidden commie party.
I know the word is so dirty now a days, but most of the Syriza are ex-KKE. Nobody wants to associate with KKE, this is why KKE doesn’t want to even talk to them, yet they (KKE) strongly supported the OXI vote.
This somehow does not sit well with me.
Agree with what?
And why mention the entire communist movement of Greece?
My point is that it could be likely that the new finance minister is a lackey of the Western oligarchy.
His wife worked for JP Morgan! But you then sneer at ‘those damn commies’. Weird.
Agree? I agree with what you are not saying, that Tsakalatos at first glance most likely is a big finance man. But then again, we can only guess regarding what if, because maybe he is just what Tsipras wants. On the other hand, one has to make his big bucks somewhere to go with all the phd’s from Oxford.
I brought the Communists up because they all seem to say one way or another that they have tendencies to support certain Communist ideas. Look at Syriza’s site and read up on it.
Yep!
“In the aftermath of Sunday’s landslide “no” vote in the Greek referendum on the European Union’s austerity demands, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras is desperately seeking a new austerity deal with the EU, the European Central Bank (ECB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
At a meeting with the European “institutions” today, Tsipras is set to present what he called, in a speech before the European Parliament yesterday, “credible reforms” for a “fair and viable solution” to the crisis in Greece. By this is meant an agreement that is acceptable to the European institutions, which are demanding harsh austerity measures in return for any further bailout funds.
Even as Tsipras spoke, Syriza’s new finance minister, Euclid Tsakalotos, dispatched a letter pledging to “immediately” impose a “comprehensive set of reforms and measures to be implemented in the areas of fiscal sustainability, financial stability, and long-term economic growth.” The letter refers to unspecified “tax reform-related measures” and “pension-related measures”—i.e., increases in regressive sales taxes and cuts in retirement benefits.”

Very impressive comment.
Why Grexit Is The Most Likely Outcome.
Ahead of Greece’s referendum on a bailout plan in early July, EU decision makers, including Eurogroup Chairman Jeroen Dijsselbloem, warned a “no” vote might lead to Greece’s exit from the Euro. After Greece’s overwhelming “no”, and Eurozone leaders’ latest ultimatums, there are a number of factors that indicate that “Grexit” may indeed be the most likely outcome.
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-07-08/why-grexit-most-likely-outcome
My prediction: No Grexit, certainly no bold steps by Tsipras. Some write-down, minor concessions, declare victory & continue betraying the Greek people.
I doubt the play we are watching now is real. They’re just delaying matters to make Greek people more desperate– and of course, to take profits from all the crashing stock markets.
Penelopie, I agree.
I will not forget an article written few years back in which the author compared Greeks to “drug addicts, who know the drug is killing them, yet they hang on to it for their dear life”.
Tsipras is one of many such examples.
Nice twist insinuating it’s all the victims fault.
Tsipras is bought and paid for, or on tape with a teenager.
Greece is being robbed by the Western oligarchy on a grand scale and these oligarch use insiders, blackmailed or not.
Michel van Dijk,
I agree. The play we are watching is a cartoon. The fix is in. To give Tsipras & Varoufakis their due, they were quite open about having no intention to leave the eurozone. The lie was that any serious austerity relief could be had while continuing under the predator’s control. Poor Greece. I wonder if it’s true that the people want to stay in the eurozone; could they really be so successfully propagandized in that one area?
Hi Penelope, word is that 60% of the Greeks want to go out of the €.
Can’t remember where but in the last 24 hours i watched a documentary where Ecuador threw out the IMF and world bank and formed a committee to examine all the loans since 2000.
most of them were in some way illegal, bribed into existence etc, and declared ‘odious’ and they refused to pay and it worked.
Also declared 80 per cent oil revenues for the country and only 20 per cent to the oil giants. they had to lump it.
And the one guy in the film from Ecuador was talking to the Greeks apparently…..
in Spanish with English subs.
Anonius, I wish I thought Tsipras was so innocent.
I can say no, you can say no, every eligible voter can say no. No means ‘none of the above’; it is a vote of no confidence in an electoral system that serves the plutocracy and not the electorate. “NO” is the most powerful word the common people possess to restore their dignity and regenerate the roots of a democratic republic.
“NO” stops the totalitarian train from rolling down the track of despotism. When there isn’t a viable choice among the candidates seeking high office, when the operatives working in the shadows behind the curtain of administrative secrecy plot and scheme to further their agenda of subjugation and domination, “NO” is the antibiotic that kills the bacteria of evil that has infected the halls of the central government.
On November 8, 2016, the American people must reject the two-headed political party leviathan, the Wall Street money changers, the Department of War and the corporate media peacocks who carry the water of propaganda for the Deep State.
Vote “NO” to end the corruption in Washington, vote “NO” to dissolve it and start over.
Not exactly on the topic, but very closely related

NSA Listened as Aides Secretly Briefed Merkel on Euro-Finance Plan
The US National Security Agency (NSA) bugged German Chancellor Angela Merkel when she was given advice on a European financial stability plan from two close advisers in 2011, a document published on Wednesday by WikiLeaks revealed.
“Two of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s advisers — Helge Hassold and Albrecht Morgenstern — advised her on 28 August [2011] that the current draft of the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF) appeared satisfactory,” the top secret NSA report on US intelligence intercepts said.
The WikiLeaks files follow recent revelations of Merkel’s discussions with former French president Nicolas Sarkozy on the Greek economic crisis, as well as her private conversations with a personal assistant and other top German ministers over several years.
They also follow April 2015 revelations of Germany’s BND intelligence service spying on European citizens at the behest of the NSA.

NSA-French Flap Confirms Euro-Servility
For those who labor under the misguided delusion that Europe defines its own destiny independently, no clearer wake up call could have been given than the latest US-French spying scandal. It is a wake up call not because of revelations that the United States has been spying on the French government, but because the French government, like its neighbor Germany who was also a victim of US spying, has predictably let the matter drop with no apparent repercussions for the perpetrators.
Time magazine, recognized widely as a mouthpiece of the US State Department, essentially gloated in its article, “Why the U.S.-France Spying Scandal Will Quickly Blow Over,” that European dependence on the US economically and militarily is so deep and unswerving, that no violation of Europe’s sovereignty could endanger “relations.” By relations, of course, Time means US primacy and European servility.
Time used words like “the free world” to describe what is essentially the Western World. However, one must strain to associate “freedom” with what is apparently a global power violating the privacy of every nation on the planet, including its own, closest allies.
For France, the only thing more humiliating for national honor than its politicians and economic leaders being spied on and manipulated without their knowledge, are politicians and economic leaders who lack the self-respect to respond to such an outrage. Words like “partnership” are often used when describing the Transatlantic community, but with a brute nation monitoring the every move of those within what it appears to believe is its sphere of influence, “prison warden” and “inmates” might be a more apt description.
Well, what to say except that “Germans and French are not your grandpa’s Germans and French”!
Isn’t it clear they have no pride left. Their current response is basically “we’ll just do what ever Uncle Sam wants so he wont’ keep tapping on our communications”.
Q; The last bridges on which Greece and Europe could have moved towards a compromise” have been “torn down”
R; Those bridges were burned the moment the keys to Greece’s financial koffers were handed over to tribal paymasters. The only thing left; are the charred remains of a delusional solution; privatize profits and socialize debts and other financial f***-ups.
Isn’t it great to see the EU’s democracy finally at work [without that minimized veneer of ‘demos]?
My impression of this “Greek tragedy” was that Tsipras (in agrement with Putin) wanted to be forced by the Eu to leave, not to leave of his own initiative. And we should see another Greek proposal still not sufficent for the germans: at that point Tsipras should tell the Greeks “we did our best, but we are out of the euro”, but not in poverty, and just like Farage pointed out, “with solid friends”. The time in doing and redoing this show, helps destroying the EU psicologically, building a sense of guiltness, tearing the continent apart North from South.
@ Issamart
You speak as if financial coercion is the only tool in the toolbox of the forces arrayed against little Greece. As if you truly believe the loan sharks will passively permit their prey to skip out scott free on a debt they owe. Will the BRICS send an army to defend the Greeks when the Gladio terror gangs get unleashed upon them? Let’s not forget Italy’s experience in the 70’s with the mafia, (and that was in the heyday of the mighty USSR), the little people who voted NO, are defenseless against death squads. If they could only foresee the future realistically, or at least recollect the past accurately, the poor in Greece might not so gullibly jump at the mirage Russia and the BRICS are dangling before them. Is the loss of the comforts of the social safety net, ( a not too unreasonable price when you consider that no one forced the government to underwrite those debts at gun point)really preferable to the nightmare of war and the destruction of the state? Because that is the real choice before the people of Greece, not Grexit into Utopia as is being trumpeted by those watching from a safe distance.
Greece: The Pearl Cast Before Swine
Israel Shamir
The Greeks were right to reject paying the debts, for these debts were forced upon them by the giant vampire squid, Goldman Sachs, in words of Matt Taibbi. “The first thing you need to know about Goldman Sachs is that it’s everywhere. The world’s most powerful investment bank is a great vampire squid wrapped around the face of humanity, relentlessly jamming its blood funnel into anything that smells like money”. As we now know, Goldman Sachs (you do not have to be an anti-Semite to hate them) cooked the book,s falsely pretending Greece had a high credit rating though they knew of its huge debts. When the debts snowballed, they pulled the rug and collapsed Greece’s rating, bailing out banks at the expense of the European taxpayer.
Out of €320 billion, Greece received and used about €20 billion, while the principal sum went to the banksters. Greece could not pay it off: after five years of trying, the country is in worse shape and in deeper debt than it ever was. Austerity has destroyed lives and infrastructure. The bankers planned to sell all Greek assets: harbours, railways, lands; and you can envisage yourself who would buy it. The negotiations between the EU, IMF and Greece were dishonest, explains Ashoka Mody in widely read and technical essay. That’s why the Greeks elected the far-left party Syriza and its far-right counterpart INIL to break the rules of the rigged game.
Greece is a small country and it could not take on the whole EU banking and political establishment on its own. Fortunately, there is a country able and willing to help. That is its sister in faith, Russia.
Why No Means Yes
Michael Hudson
One factor that may have incensed Greeks to vote “No” was the revelation that an internal IMF Debt Sustainability Analysis – which Lagarde had sought to suppress – had endorsed what Syriza’s leader Alexis Tsipras has been saying all along: Greece needs a debt writedown. Its official debt is unpayable, and never should have been forced upon it in the first place – under conditions where the Troika removed the elected prime minister from office to put in their own technocrat (Lucas Papademos, who had worked with Goldman Sachs to falsify the government’s 2001 balance sheet to enable it to meet the eurozone’s entry conditions).
Yes its true that the Greeks are planning to pay back criminal debt…but its like all the red-necks say “…they shouldn’a taken the debt !…”
I wish I could get out of my debt too. No hope for Annie so far….
Bankruptcy. It’s what it’s for. Debt cancellation is as common as debt. Happens all the time, in many ways.
Debt is evil, but it’s also like that Tarot drawing with the Devil and his chains around the man and the woman’s necks. The kicker is that the chain is loose enough that the individual can lift it right off.
Yes, you have nothing to lose but your chains.
“Bankruptcy. It’s what it’s for. Debt cancellation”
On many occasions – that is another tool of the Empire.
I worked for 20 years for Nortel (a Global telecom equipment supplier). In the UK & US employees are treated as unsecured creditors – “they” used that “tool” to make hundreds allegedly “redundant” in the UK/US where employees are treated as unsecured creditors.
Outside US/UK – employees (allegedly redundant) were treated with respect (100% creditor payments).
Greived…In Canada going bankrupt will not get you out of mortgage debt…at least, you can’t even ‘go bankrupt’ unless there is only $9000 equity in your home. Its such a mess. Believe me, if I could, I would.
The Greeks will leave the Euro zone and in time NATO as well because the Greeks along with the Russians Belorussians and Kitim join to fight the battle of Armageddon in Syria. That is what is written in the Good Book.
not likely http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-33475455
The Greek people need only to remember those immortal words of Victoria Nuland:
F*CK THE EU!!
ECB DOESN’T HAVE THE VOTES TO CUT OFF EUROS.. . .Yet:
“The necessary two thirds majority needed within the ECB Governing Council to block the Greek Central Bank from creating euros to lend to Greek banks under ELA hasn’t been reached so far. As a result, the ECB has had to come up with all kinds of excuses, the latest being that it will only cut off ELA funding for Greek banks in case there is “no prospect of a deal”. The ECB’s excuses are likely to run out soon, especially if the Greek government defaults on payments to the ECB on 20 July. This week, the ECB restrained ELA a little more, but it’s expected to provide ELA funding at least until Sunday. Political cover would be needed for any further actions though.”

EU Parliament backs TTIP resolution. Merchants of human destinies are on final push to seal very bad deal for all of us. They are crossing i-don’t-know-what-colour-line, but it is definitely bad colour.
I think Greece drama is now irrelevant.
You have hit the nail on the head – whilst the Grexit drama goes on the EU passes TTIP. This is an utter disaster for the whole EU. They picked this time whilst everyone was distracted!
Yep. Greece is a diversion and Tsipras is a full- fledged member of the empire. Check out his background for crying out loud. Varoufakis said he only wants one thing now: go back to Texas and teach. Yep, the guy doesn’t want to live in his native Greece or in Europe or Asia. He wants Texas.
Check out the background of the new finance minister.
I think the Russians have figured out the charade, that’s why they told the media this week this is a European problem, not theirs.
That pipeline to Greece will never be built.
Anonymous, when making claims that are not widely reported, please give links.
In this case, please show where Varoufakis said all he wants is to go back to Texas.
Also if you have NOT checked out the backgrounds of Tsipras and the new finance minister, then you are in no position to make claims that they are members of the Empire. On the other hand if you have checked them out, please give us a paragraph or two about each one.
You are making claims, it is for you to give some evidence.
There you go on Varoufakis going back to Texas:

Looks like just invented BS as usual from Belgium.
Hmm. I tend to disagree. Because as far as I know, he is an elected member of Greek Parliament and I do not think Syriza can afford to lose one seat. I do not think they can just grub someone unelected and put him in his place. Opposition would demand by-election.
So I think that you are spreading horse manure, or at least the source you are quoting is.
Anonymous, I know. I’ve been saying so since June. Sometimes there are defeats along Russia’s epic struggle against the empire. The empire managed to control too many countries that are necessary for the pipeline.
The TTIP passage by european parliament, if true, would be a bigger defeat for Europe, but I don’t know how it would affect Russia/China. I’m not quite sure that what european parliament does always has the force of law, cuz so much is decided in Brussels.
Cash for reform deal:

There you go! The referendum was a decoy to make the real deal they had in mind all along acceptable to the people, since it comes on the heels of “democracy”…
Some of us warned you guys Syriza and Tsipras were frauds to control the anger of the Greek people.
As Alain Soral, whom I know Saker follows, has always said: it is impossible to rise to power if you truly are a danger to the system.

That report ‘citing a government official’ is from Reuters.
Not a great source.
Any others?
Unfortunately, I have to agree with you. Tsipras rammed his sell out proposal through the Parliament with only Golden Dawn and few Syriza members opposing some did not vote. All the previous culprits supported Tsipras. So there you have it, the sell out is a done deal. With EU saying that the proposal is acceptable, I do not expect any vote to kick Greece out taking place.
God have mercy on Greeks.
Penelope said:
“…Russia’s epic struggle against the empire.”
you have previously posted some fantastic financial links that Russia is in fact just another part of the empire.
What struggle are you referring to?
It’s the 1 versus the 9999, not the Empire’s war on Russia.
well, from what I hear, Texas as a political entity ain’t so bad…Ron Paul is there, and it seems that Texas really wants to get away from Federal gov.
But the drought is bad. Bad here too on the west coast of Canada…its up to ‘Extreme Danger’ levels.
The reference to Orwell is interesting, but a more approriate reference would be Sheld0n Wollin, who wrote a book that perfectly describes America, the self-proclaimed Land of the Free: Interverted Totalitarianism.
This type of totaliarianism is in essence Capitalist plutocracy cloaked in the guise of liberal democracy.
Sound familiar?
America’s Inverted Totalitarianism system is exactly the model that it so graciously is exporting to Europe (like the Greece situation), which is already mutating into a replicant of America.

In a sardonic moment some years ago I remarked my grown son, an academic visiting during some school holiday, that we should cut out the middle man, just auction off the seats in Congress and the presidency directly. — He replied: “We already do”.
“the unthinkable happens”
At the very least, to be unthinkable is to be rendered improbable or even precluded.
However if some think it improbable whilst others use thinking of unthinkability to proceed onto the how to questions, then it is not only rendered thinkable but also probable.
To be unthinkable is to offer opportunity of lateral challenge.

RE: ” Already the ECB stated that Greek debt held by the European Central Bank cannot be restructured as that would amount to the ECB financing a government, which is explicitly banned by EU rules.”
“Liikanen: “A significant debt restructuring has been carried out with private investors. The ECB cannot fund a state directly, which is what it would mean in this case.” January 31, 2015
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-01-31/ecb-threatens-athens-bank-funding-cutoff-if-no-deal-one-month-february-28-now-d-day-
Odd: because that is precisely what the ECB is doing with QE, when it monetizes any of a number of Eurozone deficits. To this Liikanen also had a quick response:
• LIIKANEN SAYS ECB ISN’T FINANCING EURO GOVERNMENTS’ DEFICITS
Well, it is, but we’ll let that slide for the time being. The bigger issue is that since the ECB directly holds tens of billions of Greek debt, any impairment on this debt would crush what the ECB has been saying from day one: that it can not suffer losses on the debt it has monetized or otherwise transferred over to its balance sheet.
Such an impairment would immediately destroy Draghi’s credibility, and promptly lead to furious screams from around the Eurozone as taxpayers suddenly realize all too well they are on the hook for funding the Eurozone’s most insolvent members, first Greece and then everyone else who has already entered a toxic deflationary spiral.
And since the ECB would finally be exposed for being Europe’s “bad bank”, the scramble to dump as much toxic exposure on Draghi would begin in earnest in the process launching the beginning of the end of the Eurozone. ”

That’s when Ukraine and Moldova come in to take on all this debt.
Problem solved…
Dear The Saker,
Maybe the US Ambassador shoud be added to the undesirable list:
http://fortruss.blogspot.ca/2015/07/us-ambassador-dpr-militia-killed.html
Rgds,
Veritas
Mr. Tefft should be* immediately:
— recalled by the U.S. and fired.
— asked to pack his bags and be escorted to the airport by an employee of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
There is nothing remotely “diplomatic” about this guy. No Russian should be expected to speak to him (or even look at him) ever again. I see no reason for “diplomatic relations” with a nation whose diplomats come bearing and blabbing such blatant lies/insults.
I remind myself here, as often I remind others, “should be” and “is” are two very different concepts.
That assumes Tefft, as a diplomat, was not acting according to his instructions, but I think he was — instructions from some powerful US faction at least. These lies have been heard from many US officials, including Obama. Now we see the OSCE resolution, empire stance, singing the same tune.
Russia should exclude Tefft from it’s territory.
expel, why? he may be good for exchange if war broke out. he may be useful to save someone life.
Not “maybe”,but instead “certainly”,he should be put on that list. Its appalling that they even let him in.And doubly appalling that they haven’t kicked him out yet.The Kremlin needs a through purge of 5th column, the question is when? Are they waiting for after the maidan and coup.
Multiple agendae are being worked out now; the MOST important is preservation of the EU (and hence NATO); toward this end Syriza will be offered a barely acceptable package and the “crisis” will end–because the Hegemon WILL NOT permit the EU to dissolve (hence NATO). The banks will take a loss, but Tsipras will survive and so will the EU. The alternative is an assassination of Tsipras to hold the EU together!!
“…the Hegemon WILL NOT permit..”
Perhaps you over-estimate agency and opportunity including in the use of “Hegemon” whatever that is, and have notions of limited evaluation horizons.
It is often unfitting when a child stamps his feet in frustration, but whilst taking care not to indulge in schadenfreude, it does have uses.
@The Data Collector.
“…does have its uses.”
Let me guess.. some of which may include, though not necessarily restricted to, opportunities for lateral challenge(s)?
Like rug-pulling?
Thank you for further evidence of your inherent insecurity, which fortunately reflects in some measure that of those who deem themselves exceptional; some of whom apparently wish to be known as a continent.
Please keep it up – ignorance and guessing there upon in an opponent is always to be welcomed as has been amply illustrated.
Some wish to be known as two continents.
Others indulge in mystery as a sign of exceptionalism, when in fact it only reflects their insecurity and limited horizons; all of which is useful when evaluated by an opponent, as has been sometimes illustrated.
“Some wish to be known as two continents.
Others indulge in mystery as a sign of exceptionalism, when in fact it only reflects their insecurity and limited horizons; all of which is useful when evaluated by an opponent, as has been sometimes illustrated.”
The solace of instant gratification is encouraged in the “exceptionalists” system.
Advantage accrues to the “exceptionalists” whether such gratification is achieved or not – the integration is achieved by the practice of “others” seeking such solace.
This integration is compounded by process of adopting first hypotheses “intuitively” which then become subject to confirmation bias, and by limiting the evaluation criteria, methods and time.
This is rationalised by reliance on assertions/constructs/notions such as “in fact”.
Examples also show that often the “exceptionalists” are also subject to such processes, rendering them unexceptional.
Often opponents are at their most vulnerable when they think they have “won”, in a state of which there is greater opportunity to encourage iterations of the processes outlined above.
Thank you for your illustration and opportunities afforded.
I missed you too, DC.
All that glisters is not gold, or a possible disadvantage of instant gratification.

Plenty to say about every nuance of other people’s words but what drives and motivates you anonymous?
So I am not being a hypocrite my exampke is being against the hegemon which is what the US represents and being for multipolarity.
In several post I’ve talked about the need for a through de-nazification campaign in Banderastan. And how it would be hard but vital work. This article proves that point:
“Laurent Brayard: They told me “We did the right thing, when we murdered them on May 2nd in Odessa”
I’ve spent the last several weeks like a pilgrim, in relentless fundraising campaign in order to be able to leave for Donbass, reside and work there. After my first trip to the region I made this life-changing decision, having realized that my duty calls me there so that I would carry out journalistic activity, provide at least some aid and do everything I can to return ancient glory to the French banner, trampled into dirt by our politicians. It was a quick and easy decision for me, for I saw it as absolutely inevitable even before my return home. When I came back, I started meeting as many people as possible, who were ready to listen to me at public meetings, dinner parties and just outside, in the parks and café daises in every corner of my country. Thus, today at a literary meeting with tourists in the municipal camping of Dijon, situated near the famous Lake Kir, I stumbled upon a couple from Ukraine.
They were about my age, 40 something, and belonged, most certainly, to the middle class, or maybe even the upper class back home. With the present-day state of economy only the privileged strata of Ukrainian citizens can afford a trip abroad. This couple arrived from Odessa, the city of unhappy memory, where on May 2 of the last year a horde of berserk ultra-nationalists and neo-Nazis carried out a massacre of Russian-speaking fellow-citizens, who refused to accept the “bright [European] prospects” for their country. They were just peacefully manifesting against the rule of Kiev oligarchs, repressions, attacks at the Russian language, violence in Maidan and crimes that had already started to be committed all over the country. They had been ruthlessly murdered for that.
The man, whose name was Igor, talked to me after the cover of my book designed in the colours of Ukrainian flag attracted his attention. At first the conversation, which, by the way, was in Russian, was very friendly, having provided me with a perfect example of the metamorphoses that the Ukrainian people underwent since I visited the country. Absolutely crazy statements came crushing down on me in spite of the fact that I started with the warning that I had just returned from a trip to Donbass and am writing for the news agency Novorossia Today. At first I hoped that, notwithstanding that the conversation will remain friendly, but instead I had to endure flows of poisonous Kiev propaganda they did not hezitate to pour all over me in the course of an hour.
« We did the right thing, when we killed them all in Odessa back then, they were no on but terrorists, and they wanted to harm us”… These were the words, with which the people, who looked as peaceful holiday-makers, tried to explain to me that their country had been attacked by Russia and that their heroic volunteers defeated them and drove away no one but “Russian citizens”. According to them Ukraine had hardly any arms, but the true patriots from the right sector and Svoboda party in their unearthly drive stood up like a barrier in the way of the well-armed and equipped Russian army. The conversation went on the same note, but very soon Igor yielded the first fiddle to his wife, who came out to be much more aggressive and pushy than him. Her attitude was not threatening as such, but her seemingly peaceful speculations were the embodiment of hatred and lie. According to her, all residents of Donbass, who had at least some funds, had long ago left the region, saving themselves from the war, the militiamen were no one but Russian troopers in disguise, and young people from Donbass either relented from fighting or they had been forced to fight, moreover in the “separatists’ ranks there was a great number of mercenaries paid through the nose. She then explained to me that Russia had been preparing for the war In Donbas, as well as in the Crimea and in Odessa, for a very long time. She gave me the example of Crimea, saying that the peninsula is in total decay at the moment and that the bridge announced by Russia would never be built, as Russian economy is in awful state and the population is impoverished in the Crimea as well as in Russia itself.
This drive has completely thrown me off balance, and I listened silently, smiled and thought that even though I can no longer return to Ukraine in the nearest future, a small portion of Ukrainian people came to Dijon to see me. I was thinking about canonic Kir, an outstanding Resistance member, persecuted by Gestapo and wounded. Later he became the emblem of Burgundy, decided to create Lake Kir (which I was visiting at the moment), and facilitated the capital of Burgundy and Volgograd (former Stalingrad) becoming twin cities. I was imagining his reaction if he was unfortunate enough to have heard these people, singing glory to Nazi militants from “Azov” and “Aidar” battalions, founded by Ukrainian ultra-nationalist parties. It was sad to hear that their alleged native Ukrainian was endangered and that mean Russia was attempting to force the Russian language on them, but they have fortunately ousted the enemy from their soil. This announcement made me smile, because all this time we conversed in Russian, and it was clear that it is this language they were using in their daily life. It was both sad and hilarious to hear from them that Russian propaganda had totally warped the vision of their numerous relatives, including those living in Western Europe.
When they finally left for the beach, I realized what a meager chance Ukrainians have to resists Kiev’s propaganda, combined with the European and American ones. This comparatively young community, known in the 19th century as “Malorussian”, with the help of two of its representatives have demonstrated to me its total inability to perceive information, shallowness of its political knowledge and failure to critically assess the brainwashing it is subjected to in the course of many years already. And I automatically remembered the Germans of 1930s. Those people justified murder of innocent women and children, but when I tried to remind them about the facts, they told me that Ukraine had to defend itself from “Russian barbarity”, that it had suffered a lot and that is in retaliation it had to exterminate by starvation all the population in Donbass, it is justified and righteous… Before she left, this “nice woman” said that “anyway, they should go to hell with their Donbass, we do not need them any longer, as only beggars and gangsters live there”. And I realized that when I wrote in conclusion of my book “Ukraine : a kingdom of disinformation” that Ukrainian people “have not turned into fascists yet”, I was, probably, very very wrong.

Proof again, for the junta must go:
“Ukrainians will sort of Svidomo. Donetsk, Crimean and dissatisfied junta would deprive citizenship for disloyalty”
This is stated in the draft law “On citizenship of Ukraine”, developed by an interdepartmental working group, which in particular includes representatives of the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Information Policy of the country. The document, as follows from its content, will be designed to regulate the rules of deprivation of Ukrainian citizenship.
If approved, the bill Ukrainian citizenship will get much more complicated, and waiting for applicants rigorous selection process, which will include, in particular, and tested to comply with the political views of the applicant . In this specific requirements for wishing to obtain Ukrainian passport document not specified.
“Special care will be taken to the authorized bodies of migrants from the Crimea and the Donbass, who The principles and rules of the passage of verifying the authenticity and compliance of Ukrainian citizenship for individuals who are residents of the occupied territories of Donbass and the Crimea”, – stated in paragraph 4 of the document.
But lose Ukrainian passport, on the contrary, it will be easier. To do this, “Ministry of Truth” is preparing a separate program, which, in particular, allow the official Kiev to get rid of people who do not
Meaning of the sentence is to ensure that public authorities will have the right to check on the loyalty and patriotic views of the candidates for Ukrainian passport and valid citizens of Ukraine. If the authorities decide that an individual does not meet the stated requirements, it receives the status of a stateless person. It is noteworthy that the mechanisms for verifying the interdepartmental commission has not yet results. It turns out that the reason for the deprivation of nationality may be a position in the social networks, which can be interpreted in two ways.
“Recommendations Ready test of loyalty and patriotic spirit of certain categories of citizens with a view to depriving them of citizenship and the status of the individual who lives without citizenship status – ” stateless person “, – said in the fifth paragraph of the document.support the policy of the current government.want to issue citizenship of Ukraine.

This is an excellent overview of the key shameful declarations made recently by the European “authorities” (so-called), more particularly in the context of that referendum which led, rather unexpectedly, to such a resounding “OXI!”.
Yet the events that are unfolding go far beyond what is now narrowly known as “the Greek crisis”. What we are in fact witnessing is:
1. the fragility, precariousness and ultimate unsustainability of the Euro as created,
2. the mediocrity, incompetence, fanaticism and greed of the European “leadership”,
3. the first alarming signs of the disintegration of the European Union,
4. the threatening situation the Imperial West finds itself in, with popular revolt clearly in sight,
5. the uncertain future the declining Imperial West is now facing.
Western triumphalism has no valid reasons to be. Permanent conflict and perpetual war continue to leave only ruins behind; they never build a better world for our children and grandchildren. Today, more than ever, imagination and creativity seem to be nowhere to be found; ironically, now is when they are most needed.
The zionazis yet again busted on their ISIL connections:
Leaked Documents Reveal Israel Attempt to Transfer Weapons to Syrian Rebels
Israeli officials tried to recruit agents in Lebanon and Syria to transfer weapons to Syrian rebels, Al-Akhbar news portal reported Thursday.
According to the Haaretz newspaper, the report published on Al-Akhbar stated that documents revealed an attempt by Mendi Safadi, an influential Israeli Druse, who served as chief of staff to the former deputy minister of regional cooperation, to organize a transfer of arms to Syrian opposition groups. The existence of a contact between an Islamic State (ISIL) militant organization member and Israel was also revealed, the report said.
A group of unidentified hackers broke into Israeli defense computers to obtain the information, Al Akhbar reported. The hackers reportedly accessed the personal computer and phone of Safadi, whom the website calls “the Druze official closest to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.”
Terrorist scum.
Present day Ukraine is an on-going fulfillment of Orwell’s ‘1984’. An example:

Greece: All hail to the new Troika: Tsirpas Tsakalotos, Varoufakis! For a second time in the last two years on the planet we see how competent leadership ( Putin first) makes a total different in the outcome of a political moment. If anything Lenin “got” completely right, it was the idea of vanguard. This idea can be twisted and corrupted but from the philosopher Kings of Greece comes the idea of the right quality of people in the right place in relationship and service to the whole. Yes, Tsirpas takes us backwards to revisit perhaps the truths of an earlier time and to reconsider them in light of the desperate needs of the present.
New US Commander in Chief:
http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-33469369
Correction: The US Commander in Chief is the elected President, not this guy, Dunsford.
This A**hole is to be the next Joint Chiefs Chairman, which makes him the spokesman for a group of military dunces called the Joint Chiefs of Staff. They are mostly desk jockey military.
This guy has very little combat experience, plenty of desk time, and is a rabid anti-Russian because he knows nothing.
That makes him very dangerous. Stupidity is very dangerous when it wears a uniform and can participate in stupid decisions. American military is festooned with dunces who can’t win a war anywhere but start them all over the place.

Greeks agree “punitive” austerity deal
The Guardian’s Helena Smith in Athens reports the Greek government has just signed off on the plans they intend to send to creditors tonight.
She reports however that the terms are far more stringent that anything creditors have put before Greece before, and indeed the measures voters chose to reject on Sunday. She writes:
“The irony has not been lost on anyone – even though governing MPs are making light of it – that after the Greeks’ resounding rejection of further biting austerity at the weekend, prime minister Alexis Tsipras has with lightning speed now agreed to put his name to the most punitive austerity package any government has been asked to implement during the five years of economic crisis in Greece.”
Reports in Greek media have suggested that the package in total will amount to around €13bn in reforms and spending cuts in return for a €50bn loan.

The EU gives Belgium a negative image. This move hopefully will form a start for real Belgians (and other Europeans) to take back their continent from the EU quislings.
Belgium Leaves TTIP… One Town at a Time
The problem is TTIP won’t allow the town to opt out, which displays the viscious, utterly vile nature of TTIP. In my longer commentary, I agree that TTIP will be the undoing of the EU project. It certainly provides no incentive for Greece to stay or others to join.
Here’s economist Dean Baker on US Trade Policy:
“It is important to point out that our trade policy is not free trade first because it might lead some to believe that our trade policy involves pursuing some great economic principle. It doesn’t. It’s about redistributing money to the rich. [My Emphasis.]
One of the most interesting unmentioned comparisons that can be easily made is that between the openness and democratic nature of the EEU, SCO & BRICS agendas and the uber secretive, un democratic nature of ALL Outlaw Empire “trade” schemes. Today at Ufa, Putin mentioned the requirement for truthfulness and respect at all levels of relations between members and aspiring members of EEU, SCO, & BRICS:
“Putin said that countries members of the organizations in question cooperated “on the principles of mutual respect.”
“Various religious traditions and socio-economic systems do not divide us at all,” Putin said. “On the contrary, they make it possible to build a fair and comprehensive model of partnership capable of guaranteeing sustainable global management in the 21st century,” the Russian leader stressed.
“I am convinced that this is the only base on which we should search for and find solutions to thorny international problems and respond to the threats and challenges urgent for all humanity such as weapons of mass destruction; terrorism, extremism, trans-national crime, drug trafficking, food and water deficit,” Putin said. http://tass.ru/en/russia/807491
Putin said last year he sought “honest partners” with which to do business on an “even basis,” which is the exact opposite of the Outlaw Empire’s designs. Perhaps the best weapon to be used against the EU/EC vassals is to force its level of dishonesty and authoritarian designs out into the open for all to see–the vehicle for which are the Ukraine & Greek Crisises. The dissolving of the EU/EC and return of its members to individual democratic-republics would be a boon for Russia as they would return to following their own national interests, which would be to subscribe to the EEU and Silk Road initiatives sponsored by China and Russia. NATO would also be crippled beyond repair.
As has often been mentioned by Saker himself, this is a patient game–rash moves get you nowhere and even harm your position. The EU and Outlaw Empire are wrong-footing and own-goaling themselves constantly. Currently there’s a lot of speculation the FED will raise rates during an election year–an unheard of event that will provide further fuel for Sanders’s election: As with Greece’s youth voting No!, the Metropole’s young affirm that Sanders is saying all the right things about the economy. I doubt the Deep State wants to deal with Sanders.
There is much more happening, of course. Bot Tak touched on several important points, Merkel being an Imperial pawn needing removal from the board being admitted by ever more Germans–she won’t be missed. Zionist backing of ISIL being proven is also of import.
Tsipras has long maintained that what’s happening to/in Greece is more about the EU/EC than Greece. Indeed, he has essentially said the EU/EC created the crisis and has no intent to solve it–a view shared by many. Every day the EU/EC stonewalls means its demise is another day sooner.
OT–One of the best journalists on the planet in Glenn Greenwald. Today he writes yet again about the utter hypocrisy of war criminal extraordinaire Tony Blair, concluding:
” “Excusing the slaughter of totally innocent people” — whether in Fallujah or Gaza or Yemen — is a staple of Western elite discourse to justify the militarism of the U.S., the U.K. and their most special allies. It only suddenly becomes inexcusable when carried out by Muslims against the West. It is a stunning testament to Western self-delusion that one of the prime architects and salesmen of the most destructive political crime of this generation — the invasion of Iraq — can stand up with a straight face and to applause and declare: “we’re not g’oing to allow anyone to excuse themselves by saying that the slaughter of totally innocent people is somehow a response to any decision by any government.” [Emphasis in original.]
“There will undoubtedly be all sorts of self-loving jingoists in the West, along with those whose overriding political priority is the demonization of Islam, who will find this comparison invalid and even obscene. After all, their own governments’ violence, aggression and slaughter of innocents is kind-hearted, civilized and justified, whereas the violence, aggression and slaughter of innocents by Muslims is savage and barbaric. But that’s precisely the point.
“While the leading lights of the West love to celebrate themselves as beacons of civilized, progressive rationality, their overriding mentality is just the crassest and most primitive form of tribalism: when Our Side does it, it is right, and when Their Side does it, it is wrong. [Emphasis in original.] No matter the esoteric finery in which it drapes itself, that is the primitive, banal formulation that lies at the heart of the vast, vast majority of foreign policy discourse in the West. So often, those who fancy themselves brave warriors for rationality and advancement by demonizing Islam are just rank tribalists whose own national, religious and cultural loyalties are served by doing so.
“One last point while we’re on this topic: the notion that radical Muslims commit violence in response to violence by the West is often characterized as an attempt to deny that they possess agency or autonomy. That claim is just bizarre, the opposite of the truth. Those who deny that Muslims act with agency are, in fact, those who try to claim that they are manipulated by religious dogma into committing violence without any rationale or purpose. To point out that there’s an actual, rational causal relationship between their violence and the West’s — to acknowledge that they choose violence as a calculated course of action they believe to be justified just as the West does — is not a denial of their agency, but rather an affirmation of it.
“This causal relationship is the point that Tony Blair and his like-minded comrades are, above all else, most desperate to deny. Blair thus expressly denies that the July 7 bombing in London was largely motivated by his war in Iraq even though his own government’s secret report reached exactly that conclusion; a Pentagon-commissioned report years ago acknowledged the same causal motive for “terrorism” generally. They’re desperate to deny this causation because to recognize it is necessarily to acknowledge that their professed moral superiority is the ultimate delusion, that they in fact are the embodiment of what they love to hear themselves condemning.
“It’s always comforting to believe that one’s own tribe is morally superior yet perpetually victimized, so it’s an easy sell. But as Blair’s remarkably self-unaware comments today illustrate, this mentality centrally depends upon a steadfast commitment to blinding oneself to one’s own actions and failings. Nobody is more resolute in that commitment than Tony Blair.” https://firstlook.org/theintercept/2015/07/07/tony-blair-self-exalting-mindset-west-two-paragraphs/

The Intercept is quite an exceptional news site dealing with the Snowden revelations and others too, https://firstlook.org/theintercept/ Yesterday’s revelations about the “Hacking Team” emails were noteworthy along with many more items related to the electronic warfare raging everywhere.
Forgive this obvious plug, but the info generated by Greenwald et al is very much related to the global anti-Empire struggle. It would be interesting to read a conversation between Saker and Greenwald.
@Outlaw Historian
Accepting Greenwald’s “assumption” that Muslims are perpetrating terrorist attacks is perpetuating the LIE that these “terrurist” acts are done by Muslim extremists.
NOT…these are false flags. Plain and simple. Anyone who does not recognize this fact is either accepting LIES foolishly or they are in cohoots with the actual monsters terrorizing the populations……from the Irgun terrorism all the way to today’s Oklahoma City, Aurora, Sandy Hook, Bostom Bombings 7/7 and especially 911….on and on they go.. Multiple goals. Instill fear in the population, gun control, demonizing a targeted group [muslims, patriotic veterans], excuse for War
In my view anyone who assists in demonizing muslims is either blindly and stupidly accepting the official LIES or participating in that demonization….
The al Quaeda and Islamic State muslim “terrurists” are a creation of the USA/UK, with Gulf States and ISRAEL. No one can convince me otherwise. Israel created Hamas. Israel harbors wounded ISIS fighters from the Golan Heights, facilitates weapon delivery to ISIS Time to tell Greenwald that this is not “blowback”, this is simply a twisted and fighting arm of the Empire of Chaos.
No different than the Death Squads of Latin America, run by none other than Negroponte, who miraculously showed up in Iraq at the same time as the Death Squads showed up.
Sorry, no links. If you don’t agree, tough!
Respectfully,
Christine
The idea is that Greeks do not learn via the spoken word from their leaders, that they are entirely resistant to spoken persuasion– and therefore that persuasion must be hidden from them & then sprung in the form of events, which they will then grasp in the knick of time, instantaneously. And be instantly ready to take all actions necessary.
Mr. Varoufakis and Mr. Tsipras are actually covert good guys just waiting to take Greece out of the eurozone, out of the EU, out of NATO & into alliance with Russia, China and the BRICS. Proving once again that the West is moronically stupid and Putin plays chess.
And Mr. Varoufakis has cleverly fooled the West by working for Soros, Gates, and being connected to Soros-funded Institute for New Economic Thinking . Both have said repeatedly that they want Greece to stay in the eurozone, that the Greek people want that; neither has offered the slightest hint that they want anything different.
What a crock! Excuse me. I mean to indicate that I think all of this very unlikely.
Tsipras has consistently said he wants to reform the EU on democratic lines. The EU as currently organized cannot exist on such lines and would need to be completely reformed–The old EU must die for a new EU to live. Those are his words, not mine.
Agreed, I’ve read it also, but if he really thinks he can do it he is on something. The EU idea is not about democracy, never was.
@Willtheyeverlearn:
Not much of a ‘safety net’ left in Greece – that’s kind of the point.
And I haven’t read anything on this blog trumpeting the BRICS as ‘Utopia’ – do you mean other blogs? The transition – if that’s what they opt for, will surely have some speed-bumps. No poster here has claimed a smooth ride – quite the reverse.
They can trade with both blocs, but are much more likely to get honest dealing/mutual benefits from a bloc that stresses sovereignity.
The EU architecture no longer even pretends to honour the sovereign will of nation-states: it has became an instrument of coercion and a servile facilitator of globalist agendas. It’s leaders are completely corrupt, paid by the banksters/cartels to replace the sovereign, democratic will of peoples with corporate governance. TTP is not remotely in the interest of European people yet is being shoved down their throats.
Do the Greeks really wish to remain within this tottering citadel? They don’t have to to trade.
That NO was pretty defiant – I can’t see the threats you outline likely to shut it down. Besides, the mafias have been around a long time. And EU membership never rescued anyone from them. It won’t now. (Current EU darling the Ukraine has – post EU-Association Agreement and junta implementation of its demands – been plunged into chaos. All that brown-nosing…and they get Nazi-battalions running loose and a civil war?)
Smart money says – all options are on.
@Eimar
I agree with you on one point, Greeks won’t get anymore of a free ride with the SCO/BRICS than they already have with the EU/NATO. So why risk chaos and uncertainty by changing alliances at all?
The high minded rhetoric about sovereignty and mutual benefits are just that, empty rhetoric with zero meaning in the real world of interstate relations. Does Belarus or Khazakstan enjoy anymore sovereignty in their current relations with Russia than Greece with its relation with the EU? For their domestic policy, the current vassals of Russia enjoy a small degree of latitude, just as Greeks are permitted to be Greeks linguistically and culturally. All latitude ceases where economics and foreign policy are concerned. Russia’s annexation of Crimea and the separatist fervor in Donbass are Russia’s response to the “Sovereign” impulse of its former vassal Ukraine. The same occurred in Georgia and Moldova, to say nothing of Chechya. Both blocs tolerate very little digression from the policy mandate of the state at the center of gravity of the respective blocs. The Americans are ruthless in enforcing loyalty and order in the ranks of their vassals, yes. But so is Russia, and China in their respective spheres of control. Ask Hongkong and the other neighbors of China who have formed an economic dependency on their oversized neighbor how much sovereignty they’re permitted to exercise in their foreign policy when it conflicts with China’s interests.
All I’m saying is, the Greeks are better off negotiating better terms for themselves within the fold of the EU. After all they’ve benefited relatively well from their membership up till this crises. Attempting to start all over again with a different bloc invites great risk and peril, without the promise of anymore prosperity than they currently enjoy. Radical change often comes inherent with this price tag, which is why the people and their government should make a sober assessment of the risks before taking a leap into the unknown.
Look, yours is the speech, archirepeated in the Western media, that the US is behaving so because so does Russia. What we do not need here is more propaganda this style because there is already too much. You go better to comment on the mass media of any vassal of the hegemon or of the hegemon itself.
Then you also insists on the archirepeated message these days, in the same media that transmit the above, to spread the fear of what will happen to the Greeks or anyone outside the EU.
To another dog with that bone. This is a blog of people awake. Your message can only penetrate between fearful and fleecy.
@elsi, Uncle Bob and blue and Eimar
All Greece needs to do is consult with Iceland and Argentina….tactics need not be exactly the same but surely they have proven it is possible to escape from the jaws of imperial banksters. It need not be a “free ride”….just a fair and equitable solution.
The sheep need not negotiate with the wolves. Just tell them enough is enough….BEFORE the auction of their god given assets.
Christine.
Hong Kong is a part of China. How much foreign policy “sovereignty” do you think Bavaria has,or Brittany,or Wales, etc, etc.
You do not seem to understand the difference between a free ride and a fair deal. Greece is not looking looking for a free ride — that’s just imperialist propaganda — but not be constantly drained by the vampire banksters and empire through fraud and coercion (as John Perkins and Michael Hudson elucidates).
Greece has not benefited from their membership but were ripped off.
As for Crimea being ‘annexed’ that’s not what happened.
Your post is just western propaganda, and we have heard it all before, and constantly still, and know better.

A nation that dropped the atomic bomb on hundreds of thousands of civilians has very little to be proud of. Or one that aided and abetted the safe passage and re-deployment of thousands of high-ranking Nazis and their supporters/backers.
Bully psychology is the most reliable sign of retarded development. When that psychology is given power over life and death, a nation is in deep trouble.
Celebrate destructive despotism at your peril.

The main Euro states especially all the small ones may well rise up and shoot Woldfang Schabel down. Metaphorically speaking, he, a powerful German politician in the 1990s, had a former Nazi official as his advisor. He is one now himself. His response to the 61% “No.” Greek vote dripped with fascist contempt for all of Greece. No European Union is there any more at all, it is gone.
Having read this I believed it was rather informative. I appreciate you finding the time and effort to put this informative article together. I once again find myself spending a lot of time both reading and leaving comments. But so what, it was still worth it!|
