The censored reason why the US would torpedo the UN over Iran: Iranian strength
The unsaid reason the US would end the UN over Iran: Iranian strength
Why would the US end the UN over Iran? It must be due to Iran’s strength
Washington has illegally snapped back illegal sanctions on Iran illegally. No one in the world cares, but all this illegality has not gone unnoticed: The US is gutting both its international reputation and that of the United Nations all over little old Iran.
Risking the international order, which Washington partially controls, over China – ok, they could be viewed as a serious enough threat by the realpolitik fanatics in the Pentagon. Over the former USSR? Ok, that unsubmissive bloc also threatened total US control.
But over Iran?
We must remind ourselves that the question seems strange only because in all the Western coverage of Iran-US relations what is never broached is the merest notion of Iranian strength.
But if Iran is so powerless then why is the US going to such unprecedented lengths? Why did the warmongering New York Times take a pause from their yellow journalism to concede that, yes, the absurd sanctions move means, “the United States has largely isolated itself from the world order”.
But they didn’t genuinely explain, much less even ask: “Why risk so much over Iran?”
Here is the never-stated reality: the US has made this desperate, sure-to-fail gambit because US policy has been defeated by superior Iranian strength.
This is not jingoistic propaganda on my part: The New York Times conceded that, “The act was born of frustration”. Iran is not some behemoth ready to steamroll the entire world, nor is it a media darling welcomed by foreign masses with strewn flowers – so how can it frustrate the superpower so very much, even as so many other countries fear to engage in the smallest acts of independence or defiance?
It can’t merely be the morally-bankrupt answer so popular in the US, “It’s the economy, stupid,” – i.e, that Iran has a lot of oil.
No, Iranian strength rests upon the fundamental success of Iran’s unique combination of post-1917 socioeconomic political structures adapted under a genuine and modern interpretation of Islam.
This strength has even another strength on top of it – what a tremendous appeal this combination has for the huge portion of the globe known as the Muslim world.
The idea that the Iranian Islamic Revolution could be universally exported is an absurdity – forced conversion to Islam is proscribed in the Qur’an, for starters, and Islamic culture does not seem readily compatible with that of Amsterdam, Rio de Janeiro or Tokyo any more than the culture of Tokyo, Rio and Amsterdam are readily compatible with that of Iran’s. But the idea that a post-1917, Islamically-based government can not just exist but thrive – even in total and open opposition to Western imperialism – is most definitely exportable to the Muslim World.
But even allowing this option to be democratically presented within Muslim countries is something which imperialists – from any region or culture – cannot risk.
Iran’s frightening strength, and its massive threat, is thus this: it keeps democratically presenting this option. That is the true reason why the US is so very deranged over Iran that they would topple the world order just to keep Iran from succeeding.
In a sense they are right: Iran’s success really does challenge the world order, after all, given the modern importance of oil – a Muslim world not chained by arrogant imperialists would force the West to finally cooperate and not dominate, and also free up trillions of petrodollars for local use.
Washington demands that 80 million Iranians must be viciously sanctioned because they keep selecting this option; keep getting out to vote; keep democratically participating; and – in 2020 – keep on respecting the national democratic will no matter how many sanctions get levied in an effort to, as former US Secretary of State John Kerry once said by accident in Paris, “implode” Iran.
(In 2020 in the US, however, it seems like neither side will honor the national democratic will if their own candidate doesn’t win – more proof that the US is not a very democratic culture, perhaps.)
Savvy commentators know that Trump’s sanctions may have increased economic difficulties but they also know that they have only increased domestic patriotism: a country which fought for eight years to preserve 5 centimetres of Iranian land from Iraqi & Western aggressors cannot be easily cowed, nor have they come this far to stop now.
Increasing this sense of patriotism is the reality that Iranians truly feel that they deserve international respect precisely because the Iranian Islamic Revolution of 1979 has created a novel system so very strong and egalitarian that it can face endless sanctions and still win.
These post-1917 and Islamic-inspired creations, solutions and levers are what are so treasured domestically; are what explain the success for Iran’s resistance; cannot even be objectively described, much less openly admired, in the West, which is why the West doesn’t even want to inquire about possible Iranian strengths.
It also these systems – their very success, support and how they increase sovereign Iranian strength – which explain why it is China which courted Iran for the Belt and Road Initiative and not the other way around. For over five years Iran rather rejected Beijing’s overtures, in order to give the JCPOA a chance.
The most lenient analysis in 2020 would be that the JCPOA is at least a partial failure, and it seems very historically logical to predict that even a victory by Joe Biden would not lead to the US actually honouring the treaty.
But as the JCPOA’s promises continued to go unfulfilled Iranian diplomats were also laying the groundwork for the $400 billion, 25-year strategic partnership with China that now seems certain to be finalised.
None of it adds up over Iran, to the US elite:
Why would the US blow up the UN over little old Iran? Why is China making Iran (and not, say, Russia) their make-or-break node in their Belt and Road Initiative? Why is the world standing with Iran against almighty Washington?
But it’s not possible to intelligently answer such questions if the idea of Iranian strength cannot even be openly discussed.
Fortunately for the average Iranian: strength means having the ability to disregard the ignorance, collusion and duplicity of those weaker than yourself.
Ramin Mazaheri is currently covering the US elections. He is the chief correspondent in Paris for PressTV and has lived in France since 2009. He has been a daily newspaper reporter in the US, and has reported from Iran, Cuba, Egypt, Tunisia, South Korea and elsewhere. He is the author of ‘Socialism’s Ignored Success: Iranian Islamic Socialism’ as well as ‘I’ll Ruin Everything You Are: Ending Western Propaganda on Red China’, which is also available in simplified and traditional Chinese.
The US will collapse long before Iran.
Iran has survived Alexander the Great, the Arabs, Genghis Khan and the Mongol horde, and Tamerlane and the Turks. It will survive pathetic MAGA USA.
Jamshyd
The US will yet make a superpower out of Iran, in fact as Ramin wrote Iran moral stand on humane values, economic resiliance, modernity, homegrown system of governance that has withstand the test of time and scientific/ technological & human capital development in the face of the most draconian sanctions in history tells the Chinese that this is an ideal partner.
Ramin wasn’t exaggerating when he said it was the Chinese that are courting Iran, as I have read the interview of former Iranian ambassador to China who happens to belong to the conservative camp and he corroborate Ramin that the $400bln 25years comprehensive plan was introduced by Xi during his visit to Iran, but that it was Iran that had been delaying the signing of the deal up till now because of the JCPOA he even condemn the delay.
The fact that demonization of China is now a bipartisan project in the US and Iran is a key element for the success of the BRI eliminate the chances of Iran becoming a bargain chip for China vis US, giving Iran more leverage in sealing the 25years comprehensive agreement. The JCPOA may not have yielded economic gains for Iran but it pave the ground for future cooperation with China and Russia on the economic front without the toga of international pariah because with the recent setback Washington had suffered at the UNSC Iran is now out of the woods isolation wise vis UNSC resolution which also makes the JCPOA a political victory for Iran.
As for the peace deal between UAE, Bahrain and Israel which is actually a military deal, to me it is much ado about nothing because if the US with all its bases surrounding Iran have failed to defeat Iran or achieve regime change, Israel having a base closed to Iran just amount to providing more bullseye target for IRGC missile forces. No doubt Israel will be snooping on Iran from these bases and sabotaging Iranian facilities but has these not being the case all the while. The only thing that changed was that such activities have now become openly acknowledged.
But this just confirmed that the balance of power have tilted towards Iran and America is planning to exit West Asia, it may not happen tomorrow but the clock is ticking and it pointed to an exit.
Yk,
I see things differently. I see the Zionist elite setting up the board for another World War.
Iran is Nazi Germany, Land of the Aryans, consumed by anti-semitic hatred, on a paranoid crusade to eat all Jewish babies. Russia and China are Japan and Italy.
The Allies will fight for their billionaire Jewish masters once more.
When the war is over, the world will be destroyed. Zion will prevail and lead the world towards the new order. Or so they hope.
There is no happy ending in a world full of nuclear weapons and weaponized viruses and nerve agents lethal in the miligram range.
Well as we see with Novichok the nerve agents are less poiseness than rat poison 😁
But yes I think ww3 is in the making since years
The question is when will it start
But this time the zion devils will all be exterminatet
There won’t be any zion left after
Maybe also the planet will be destroyed
But it’s worth the price 😎
Reminiscence of the Future..

Following a long line of very arrogant american imperial “negotiators”, mr oblivion billingslea used standard “negotiating” techniques like
(a) accusing the other side of crimes americans have committed first and forever, eg, extreme lying, bad faith argumentation, military aggression, foreign government security breaching, assassination and poisoning [as in american presidents and independent thinkers], and of course, electoral cheating;
(b) putting the opponent in the “negotiation process” on the defensive or back foot by stating false news allegations amplified by the media controlled by the american empire;
(c) offering nothing useful or commitable to be done by the empire, and yet “magnanimously” demanding the moon as opponents’ concessions, eg, russian, iranian and chinese nuclear weapons limits, but not for nato’s development and deployment, and; (d) after making impossible demands, the imperials accuse the opponents of hostility and unwillingness to “negotiate”.
The russians can skillfully agree by stating that they only require the americans to reduce their nukes to 320 pieces like china, and in less than five years.
This is why it is very important for sovereign nations to read the guidebook, called the “idiot’s guide on running the american empire”, and developing deep and lasting solutions.
As for the other american imperial military “advantages”, eg, constellation of “aggression” satellites, andrei forgot to mention that these can be shot or burned down in minutes easily by russia, china and even iran, as these stations cannot hide or run away in earth orbits.
Replenishment of weapons and military supplies after 3 months is rather doomed as the cheap, mass production and manufacturing facilities do not exist. Which must be re-created somehow but now
American lands are the targets. Much, Much Different Than WW2 !!
And of course, russia can always nuke down the USA and its vassal countries, and thus permanently ruin their economies for a decades or more, they don’t know how to run defense — this was always the fatal weakness of all bullies – if they’ll have enough time to “learn it”… let’s see… I doubt this.
Let’s see americans try to start and conduct a nuclear war after too many spy, internet and gps satellites are shot down. Russia can even
do this today using conventional explosives, and the world will be shocked how helpless the american military and economy can be made even without using russian nukes.
There are countries still immune to the numerous american imperial diseases that are already documented daily in zerohedge postings. The better countries still have lots of parents telling their kids to study and work hard so they can have better lives than their ancestors.
In oregon and california, they teach unemployable kids to burn something or somebody sometime before dinner.

I was about to say that what now comes out of the US & Trump’s mouth in particular, is Orwellian. But that credits it with too much gravitas. The true comparison is Alice in Wonderland:
“Words mean whatever I want them to mean”.
I teach my kid nothing of the kind….
Looking forward to the next skirmish on the chess board when Iran sends another fleet of Iranian-registered oil tankers to Venuezela, daring the US to strike first. I predict that the US will fold, just like that first time. Or they get some useful idiot to do their dirty work with some plausible — but laughable — denial. Iran must have gamed that one as well. You do not play chess lightly with people who played that game for thousands of years. LOL
One of my favourite things, which I think of every time I hear about Iran, is the Battle of Khorramshahr.
In September 1980 Saddam Hussein, with the encouragement of Amerikastan, invaded Iran. The post revolutionary Iranian armed forces were still in a shambles. Khorramshahr, just across the border from Iraq, was in the heavily ethnic Arab Khuzestan (Arabistan to Iraq) province, and Saddam Hussein imagined that they would side with Iraq against Iran. Khorramshahr was expected to fall in forty eight hours.
It held out for fifty nine days.
In one of the most epic battles of post WWII history, the 3000 defenders of Khorramshahr – militia totally outclassed in weapons and training and numbers by two Iraqi divisions attacking them – held out in such brutal city combat that Khorramshahr gained the nickname Khuninshahr (Blood City). Iranian Arabs, far from defecting to Iraq, stood with their Persian, Azeri, Balochi, Kurdish and Jewish *Iranian* brothers against the best that Iraq could throw at them. The presence of a puppet “Arabistan Liberation Army” or some such on the Iraqi side made no difference at all. Khorramshahr women organised field kitchens to cook for the fighters, helped treat casualties, and ferried weapons and ammunition to the front. And the defenders inflicted as many casualties – all military – on the Iraqis as they suffered in militia and civilians put together.
Finally, of course, Khorramshahr fell, but it had bought time for the Iranians to organise their forces. The Iraqi offensive became a stalemate, and two years later a colossal Iranian counterattack liberated the city once and for all.
Anyone who imagines Iranians can be turned against one another should merely study the Battle of Khorramshahr. But there are no historically literate people in Warshington. Not any longer.
While Khuzestan does indeed have a large Arabic-speaking minority (primarily in the Ahvaz-Abadan-Khorramshahr region of the south — the rest of Khuzestan is predominantly Persian, Lur, and Bakhtiari), they are a distinct ethnic group like the indigenous Bahrani people of Bahrain who are not originally of Arab descent. And they are almost entirely Shia (while Saddam’s Baathist regime was superficially secular but overwhelmingly Sunni and violently anti-Shia) and most have blood ties to other Iranians and they are strong Iranian nationalists. So they were not susceptible in the slightest to Saddam’s racist anti-Iranian, anti-Persian propaganda.
Saddam was an incredibly stupid and willing pawn of Anglo-American-French imperialism. He bought into their propaganda hook, line and sinker. He never stood a chance.
Thanks Biswapriya
Biswapriya Purkayastha,
If you are interested in the battle of Khorramshahr you really must read the book One Woman’s War: Da.
It has become the definitive account of the Iran-Iraq War, perhaps, and was written by an Iraqi-born Kurdish woman. Stunning, stunning book. I wrote a book review of it as well for The Saker.
The “Great Satan” thrashes about in confusion, unable to accept that its “maximum pressure” campaign against the Persians has had only minimum effect.
At the UN, its every move against Iran now ends in isolation and humiliation.
As the “Great Satan” now led by a certified clown(Trump), sees its once great power declines daily, it has begun to contemplate the previously unthinkable, but now inevitable: exiting the Middle East.
The coming exit of their protector the “Great Satan” has set off alarm bells amongst the Gulf tyrants, that are thoroughly despised by the masses.
As the Gulf tyrants huddled together in fear, they bought into the erroneous idea that forming a pact with the “Great Occupier” will save them and their crowns.
Pity the fools.

I have no doubt for a second about the evil desire of the Anglozionist, the Arab peacock rulers are just proxies to be used and dump but the world is waking up gradually and if there is a war today it will not go according to the Anglozionist plan.
Yes Germany and Japan are beating the drum of revanchism while the history of WW2 is being falsified to portray the successor state of the Soviet, Russia, as the aggressor and China is being demonized as an expansionist state in the South China sea. I can’t help but notice similar patterns in West Asia as the history of the Iran Iraq war is being rewritten to paint Iran as the aggressor with gulf Arabs sheikdoms playing the role of Poland.
But this much just confirm my assessment because if the empire is now resorting to total conflagration, that is WW3, it doesn’t show strength but the acknowledgment of the empires failure vis these leading multipolar nations. Meaning the empire have realized it has hit a brick wall because a total war would be its last option and it is hare brain as the opposing forces are also capable of taking the war to the home front of the Anglozionist and the economic catastrophe would affect the whole world. Maybe that is what the empire want, that is to take the whole world down with them.
However, life must go on that is why we have the war ministries to plan for war and the economic ministries to plan for the economy. We all know life is hard but we cannot stop developing just because of the probability of chaos and destruction, so Iran I hope would sign the 25years agreement with China on a mutually beneficial approach as the assessment of economy of resistance does not mean isolation or preclude cooperation with none aggressive nations and the reality is that China will be the driving force of the world economy for the foreseeable future and its only a blessing that Iran is geopolitically strategic to the success of China BRI, it would be pragmatic for Iran decision makers to explore this advantage for their nation’s development.
“Why would the US blow up the UN over little old Iran?”
The loss of “assets” can be disappointing for those immersed in emotional reactions to the-emperor-has-no-clothesness, and immersion in the attempt/achievement conflation.
Mr. Berezhovsky was a good example of these predelictions; but he was not alone.
Silly Ramin. The reason why the USA is willing to blow up the UN, and most likely the whole world, is Israel. That’s why we have troops in the Middle East in the first place. Even Trump admits that. That’s why the Zionists, Christian, Jewish, and otherwise, put him in office. That’s why he’s surrounded himself with Christian Zionists and Likudniks who are hell-bent on doing everything they can to start an apocalyptic war with Iran that will almost certainly involve Russia and China. That’s why Sheldon Adelson threw “thirty pieces of silver” at Trump back in 2016 so that he would kill the Iran nuclear deal. It’s as obvious as the nose on your face, Ramin.
When Israel attacked the USA on 9/11 it wasn’t just to demolish a few asbestos-laden skyscrapers for Larry Silverstein, it was to blame it all on Muslims like you. Netanyahu even said that the attacks were “very good for Israel.” It was like a new Purim, when Mordecai and Esther saved the Jews from the Persians back in the day. Don’t you get it, Ramin? Israel has always had it in for you Iranians!
Iran is strong and independent and good for them. But if the US will blow the UN (even if it can), it won’t be over Iran; it will be over the fact that it’s about the only international body of which the US is a member but which the US doesn’t control. (Well I guess technically also WTO but we’ll see what happens with that panel decision…)
The particular reason – Iran or otherwise – does not matter. I’m not sure Trump can even point Iran on the map; the only (or main) reason why the US focuses on Iran so much is Israel.
Layman
You are not getting the message RM is trying to pass, when was the last time the US suffer such humiliation in the UNSC? When was the last time the military base of the US was overtly bombed and announced by any country since the end of WW2?
The powerful hold of the Zionists lobby on America West Asia policy especially the drive to destroy Iran is no secret, but even some America presidents do shun this influence sometimes once they secure a second term i.e Obama signing the JCPOA inspite of stiff opposition from Israel and Congress is a typical example.
It is not so much about the resources of Iran but the long term grand strategic danger that Iran defiance present in the face of America imperialism in this most strategic region of the world. America for the past 4 decades have tried everything in the book less direct military invasion to destroy Iran but have failed woefully, in all ramification the US dwarf Iran yet Tehran is going toe to toe with Washington.
These are stuffs of legend one which the world have not seen in a long time, please cut Iran some slacks because Washington and other major world capitals acknowledges, even if they do not openly say it, through there actions that Tehran has been a worthy adversary to Washington.
Whilst a pro-Muslim commentator cannot mouth it openly, the way Islam is ‘exported’ to the West is using slow and steady Trojan Horse methods.
There has been a rapid expansion of the Muslim population in the UK the past 40 years and it is now absolutely clear that Muslims are flexing their Muscles in certain ways concerning traditional UK culture.
Let me be clear, I am not an apologist for Imperialism. My country’s history is littered with egotistical warmongers going all over the world to impose their will at the end of a sword, a rifle, a musket, a cannon or through profiteering from the addictive opioid drugs from the poppy. We never believed in Free Markets, we believed in rigging markets for Imperial Power. We ruthlessly traded Slaves and Opium and much of the Infrastructural Legacy of the UK Empire comes from the fortunes made in those two satanic markets.
Of course, Empires grow and Empires fall. Ours fell through bankrupting ourselves in two Twentieth Century Wars, at the end of which most of the Colonies demanded independence and our rulers had to negotiate such reverses in ways that were the least damaging to future prospects. The whole empire was pretty much dismantled before Boris Johnson and I were born in 1964. We are the post Empire Generation, even if Mr Johnson has snorted sufficient white powder to think he is still living in the 1870s (which I don’t think he has done, truth be told).
In 1964, Britain was still a pretty universally Christian country. Yes we had started importing immigrants to do the less salubrious jobs like driving buses (almost all London bus drivers were black two generations ago). But when I was educated, there was zero consideration of Islam in compulsory education and, beyond knowing that the Koran was their equivalent of the Bible, I was universally ignorant about its culture and history when I left school aged 17. I am sure most people were exactly the same….
Now we have a victim culture in the UK, where saying anything critical about anything Muslim, Jewish, is unacceptable. It is also unacceptable to challenge the behaviour of women, gays and Climate Crusaders either, so we cannot just blame Islam for our intolerant bigotry in shutting down civilised evidence-led debate.
The fact remains that some pretty disgusting crimes have been committed in the UK by organised Muslim gangs and they have been covered up at national political level, investigations shut down or covered up, for reasons which go to the heart of how Islam is starting to influence national UK politics. It is not acceptable in any civilised culture to view 14-16 year old white girls as sexual trophies for Muslims for the simple reason that they are Kuffars. Calling non-Muslims Kuffars is absolutely racist and I have zero tolerance for any Muslim even trying to answer me back on that one. ‘F**k off back to where you came from!’ is an entirely suitable rejoinder for anyone promoting paedophilic rape of kuffars in the UK, assuming that no police force, no judge and no politician has the gumption to call muslim rapists muslim rapists and put them where they belong, namely in prison cells for most of the rest of their lives.
None of this says that raping young girls is a uniquely Islamic occupation. It is merely saying that adherents of Islam should be subject to the Laws of the Land in the same way that every other segment of society should be. We have recently had grossly unedifying spectacles of entirely innocent young white students being thrown out of University and hauled up in a court of law on what proved to be entirely made up rape allegations by a white woman. So any Muslim with honesty and discernment can see that there is not currently equality under the law for alleged rapists in the UK….Muslims have bought off political power, the ancient white culture is thrown to the dogs. Deeply uncomfortable, highly improper, but current reality….
The building of Mosques is also an emotive subject. At a time when Christianity has lost its pedestal in UK life and churches are in decline, even becoming museum pieces, Islam is seeking to expand its network of mosques and with it, expand its influence on the levers of political power. They have seen how the Jews leverage their influence to ridiculous levels in London society and fancy similar influence for themselves. Currently in the UK, the right wingers trash the Muslims but defend similar Jewish hypocrisy (the Chief Rabbi went into full ‘Death to Jeremy Corbyn!’ mode before the 2019 election) to the death. Their cognitive dissonance knows no bounds….but the Left are no better, doing the same but in the opposite direction.
We do have equality in religious hypocrisy across the political spectrum nowadays…and no-one would get an interview for the BBC if they stated the undoubted truth that Christianity, Judaism and Islam are three intolerant childish historical artefacts that would do well to expunge themselves of egotistical imperial grandstanding for the benefit of the majority of mankind who wish to have nothing to do with any of them….
The more ‘paranoid’ of commentators believe that the Muslim game is to promote plenty of breeding and immigration until a critical mass of Muslims exist in the UK, before flexing their totalitarian muscles and trying to turn the UK into an outpost of the Muslim Caliphate. Whether they are right or not, the changes the past 40 years in the UK makes it at least understandable as to why they hold their views….
My view is that Christianity was dying long before Islam had any great hold on the UK. When you have a vacuum, caused by imperial death, something new emerges to take its place. We British have always had leaders who considered the mass importation of Islam to be acceptable and there has never been a mainstream political party who sought to stop it.
We have not been invaded by Islam. We invited it in and cannot be surprised as to the consequences.
But it does not make it right for Islam to try and take over the UK, any more than it was ‘right and just’ for the UK to attempt to ‘never have the Sun set on the British Empire’.
It is just one bunch of imperial tyrants wanting to replace another tired out, old bunch of conflicting Imperial Tyrants.
Those of us who want nothing to do with either simply wish that the reality of life were rather different.
You guys looted their wealth and shouldn’t be surprised that some of them are coming to the former imperial masters to make a living.
The Islam exported to your country has nothing to do with Iran.
It is exported by Saudi Arabia, on the command of their Zionist masters, who are simply sowing division and discord.
If your country and the US had not destroyed their countries on behalf of Israel, there wouldn’t be so many refugees coming there anyway.
The Muslims are there by the will of Israel and the Jewish and Christian Zionist elite so that you will hate them, which you were sure to do, considering European notions of racial superiority coupled together with Christian Crusader anti-Islamic sentiment, the Muslims never even had a chance in your country.
They are placed in your country so that you will despise them, and be divided from your fellow man, and provide support to racist governments that wish to bomb the Mideast for Israel.
It is a shame that you are buying right into it.
Exactamundo. The empire doing their typical job…Create the problem… lots of refugees from Muslim countries that have been wrecked by imperialism and war brought by the west … and them emigrating to Europe and the west and then here is the solution that the reactionar populist political figures offer; Racism, xenophobia , anti Muslim policies, to sow division
And the elites favorite strategy.. divide and conquer.
Same thing has been happening in America for decades with the Central American and Mexican populations.
It’s pretty easy to see if you re not blinded by prejudice.
What the hell does this overlong anti-Muslim rant have to do with this particular article, which concerns the US vs Iran? Absolutely sickening.
What the UK is suffering from (and rightly so) is a case of “chickens coming home to roost.” The UK is one of the most evil regimes in world history and betrayed the Arabs during and after the Revolt, as well as royally screwed over the traditional custodians of Mecca and Medina, the Hashemites, by sponsoring the Wahhabi Al-Saud clan of Najd.
All the Persian Gulf monarchies are a product of British imperialism, where in order to weaken and eradicate Iranian civilization, the UK imposed foreign Arab tribal dynasties from Najd over the indigenous Arabs of Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and the UAE. In the case of Kuwait and Bahrain, a large percentage of their populations are of Iranian descent going back centuries and even to this day maintain close ties with their relatives in Iran. And in the case of Bahrain, the terroristic British actions in imposing Wahhabi rulers is particularly appalling and infuriating considering that the vast majority of Bahraini people are Shia and are being subjected to British-American-Zionist sponsored genocide which is not being reported by Western media.
And this is all just the tip of the iceberg. The British Empire (and modern British society) was built on the doctrine of “divide and conquer.” The British imperialists were and continue to be destroyers of civilization, just as they continue to commit genocide through their sponsorship of Salafism/Wahhabism (which has always been an Anglo-Zionist creation.)
The UK deserves everything it is going through.
@Rhys Jaggar, there are only 70k Iranians in the UK. The vast majority of them westernized and secular. Don’t equate them with the Indian, Bangladeshi and Pakistani muslims. They are worlds apart.
An alignment of planets … many in the U.S. govt … 1. would throw a baby and a litter of kittens off the Empire State building if it harmed Iran in even the slightest manner to please Israel. 2. … hate the U.N. because Russia / China have a veto in the UN Security council.
I heard a congressman on FOX say that the U.S. should create a new international body led by the U.S. restructured for our own needs. Don’t remember his name but he said this to Maria Bartiromo. I just love how the FOX shills never question such absurdities. It would cease to be an international body. It would be those ’60 countries that recognize Guaido as President of Venezuela’, or the coalition of galley slaves that invaded Iraq and deposed Saddam.
I just love how so many commentators on FOX are livid that China, the largest country on earth with the second largest nominal GDP has veto power in the UN but believe that all is right with the world that both France / U.K., second rate powers by any reasonable definition, both have the same veto power.
‘Oh Beautiful … From sea to shining sea’ And our glory shall never end.
‘Why would the US blow up the UN over little old Iran?’
I can think of many reasons why ‘Trump’ would want to blow up the UN over Iran. Among them:
1. Iran is the major Middle-East competitor to Trump’s best friends, Bibi and MBS. A strong Iran prevents either from realizing their ‘wet-dreams’ of dominating the Middle-East. The ‘Shia Crescent’, already under control of Iran and its allies, represents the majority of the Middle-East population.
2. Trump wants to control the international oil trade, for which the Middle-East is the key player. Iran is a major obstacle.
3. Iran is the western hub of the Belt and Road Initiative. If Russia and China consolidate their presence in Iran, the Middle-East will be lost to both Trump’s American Empire and the Globalists’ ‘World without Borders’.
4. Conquering Iran is central to militarily challenging Russia, then China.
5. Trump doesn’t care about the UN. According to Luongo (tomluongo.me/2020/09/21/trump-jcpoa-break-un-before-election/) Trump sees the UN as a tool of his mortal enemies, the ‘Globalists’.
6. Time is short. Russia and China are on the move. Meanwhile, the Western economies are crashing. Western banks and the U.S. dollar are under threat. Trump and the Globalists are at each others’ throats, and even the winner is likely to emerge from this fight significantly weakened. If Russia and China, via Iran, are not challenged now, the game may be over.
Blowing up the UN is a reflection not of Iran’s strength, but of both Trump’s and the Globalists’ weakness. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
Why would the US blow up the UN over little old Iran?
Because the US will do pretty much whatever Saudi Arabia wants it to do and that means, among other things, keeping Iran in its crosshairs. Why that is the case is because of the following.
In 1971 Nixon decided that nations that had lent money to the US by buying US “treasury” bonds could no longer redeem those bonds for physical gold. He said that he was “temporarily” stopping the convertibility of bonds to physical gold. In short, because the US literally did not have enough physical gold to ship to those nations who wanted gold rather than more paper, again, Nixon was literally forced to do what he did or stop making war on the world. Again, he chose the former and all his successors have made the exact same choice.
Because the US economy would (as George Kennan said) have collapsed without perpetual war and the economically-necessary military-industrial-complex to fight it, something had to be found to “back up” printed-out-of-thin-air USDs. A few increasingly desperate years later one was — the petro-dollar. It is vitally important to understand its secret origin, because without such understanding a person cannot make sense of the CURRENT United States of America.

The petro-dollar and the ensuing “Carter Doctrine”
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carter_Doctrine
explain most of the US’s military behavior in Latin and South America, as well as, more recently, in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Yemen, Iran, Somalia and now Venezuela. In short, by adopting the petro-dollar, the US had committed itself to use its military forces to control not only the middle east, but the entire world in order to maintain USD hegemony. From the get-go, that was a fatal mistake.
For just one example of the petro-dollar’s irresistible political power, on October 4, 2017, for the first time ever, a Saudi King flew to Moscow and met with the head of the Russian Federation, who at that time just happened to be Vladimir Putin.
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2017/oct/05/saudi-russia-visit-putin-oil-middle-east
The King’s trip sent an earth-shaking, absolutely clear message to the US Elite, as well as to the US President, who at that time just happened to be Donald Trump. Nine days after that unprecedented visit, on October 13, 2017 Trump announced that Iran was violating the JCPOA– the “Iran nuclear deal”,
http://www.cnn.com/2017/10/13/politics/iran-deal-decertify/index.html
even though Iran was NOT violating the terms of that painstakingly negotiated and detailed agreement.
The King’s visit to Russia and Trump’s announcement only a few days later were no mere coincidence. The King of the petro-dollar was telling the commander-in-chief of the US military forces that unless the President did his bidding, the USD would not remain the de facto world reserve currency for long.
Trump obeyed his orders and in May 2018, pulled the US out of the deal. It remains to be seen if the rest of the nations that signed onto the deal are able to fulfill their own obligations to it.
The US’s petrodollar quagmire is also completely responsible for the US’s reaction to MbS’s murder of Khashoggi. Here’s my headline for this part of my narrative:
Donald Trump Admits Bush’s War On Terror Is Actually President Lyndon Johnson’s War On Poverty —“I don’t want to lose an order like that.”
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/trump-promises-severe-punishment-behind-khashoggis-disappearance-1152147
From the above link:
……..
“When considering punishments if Saudi Arabia were found culpable, Trump was hesitant to suggest sanctions. ‘It depends on the sanctions,’ he said. ‘Let’s give an example: We are ordering military equipment. Everybody in the world wanted it: Russia wanted it, China wanted it, we wanted it, we got it, and we got all of it, we got every bit of it.’
‘So would you cut that off, or take…’ Stahl asked.
‘Well, I tell you what I don’t want to do: Boeing, Lockheed, Raytheon, all these companies, I don’t want to hurt jobs, I don’t want to lose an order like that. And you know, there are other ways of punishing, to use a word that’s a pretty harsh word, but it’s true,’ Trump replied.”
What Trump failed to mention is that, again, the US economy literally can not afford to “lose an order like that”. And again, George Kennan explained exactly why just a few short years before the end of the Soviet Union. (What he said is even more true today.)
“Were the Soviet Union to sink tomorrow under the waters of the ocean, the American military-industrial establishment would have to go on, substantially unchanged, until some other adversary could be invented. Anything else would be an unacceptable shock to the American economy.”
Again, the US will do pretty much whatever Saudi Arabia wants it to do and that means, among other things, keeping Iran in its crosshairs while exerting “maximum pressure” in Iran’s economy. Trump & Co. cares about the UN about as much as it cares about the WHO, the INF, the JCPOA, the ICC and international law in general — nothing.
“Anything else would be an unacceptable shock to the American economy.”
Mr. Kennan was limited in his perception in part by his purpose which was the continuance of social relations self-designated as “The United States of America” not restricted to the political geographical construct lying in large part to the south of Canada and to the north of Mexico.
By the late 1960’s some agreed with Mr. Kennan’s observation that “The United States of America” and “The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics” had a symbiotic relationship facilitating mutual co-existence on the bases of “spheres of influence” as both Mr. Cohen and Mr. Mearsheimer understood.
From the late 1960’s onwards the internal rates of accumulation in both political constructs were declining, in the case of “The United States of America” with wider “spheres of influence” this was also subject to increasing external competition primarily from Germany and Japan, and to a much lesser degree Sweden.
In the case of “The United States of America” with greater reliance on abstracting economic rent from others, the increasing costs of abstracting economic rent from others also reduced the opportunities of subsidising declining internal rates of accumulation.
In the case of “The United States of America” in the early 1970’s this subsidy was increased due to:
the US dollar being taken off the gold standard
the encouragement of China to prepare to compete industrially with Japan partly through US “re-investment” of some of the “benefits” of fiat currency.
the encouragement of Japan to increasing orientation towards financial services and investment of surpluses in “The United States of America” instead of investments in South East Asia and in the USSR to improve logistic and manufacture options throughout Eurasia in conjunction with Germany
and the adjustment of relations in Western Asia to facilitate the petro-dollar.
Some of the above were likely alluded to in Mr. Lavrov’s observation that “The United States of America” was once good at “diplomacy”.
Simultaneously some in “The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics” partly in the hope of peace and the opportunities derived therefrom, in addition to belief in their increased “recognised” status of being “worthy” of detente, to some degree rest on their laurels.
However not all in “The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics” were party to these illusions and understood that although “The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics” would implode first, and that the attempts of others internally and externally including “The United States of America” to benefit from this implosion would afford opportunities to encourage the implosion of the social relations self-designated as “The United States of America” not restricted to the political geographical construct lying in large part to the south of Canada and to the north of Mexico.
The above is merely a thumbnail description/interpretation of events.
All true, but isn’t Israel driving homicidal animosity toward Iran? And it may make a kind of sense to go after the least powerful of the Russia, China, Iran BRI-mediated Eurasian initiative, no? Russia cannot be touched militarily. China is vulnerable economically (in a sense) to dollar-based system, but Israel wants Iran crushed and the US wants both to crush Iran just for shits and giggles (i.e., giant MIC profits) as well as to stop Eurasian integration. It seems like kind of a waiting game at this point. The dollar has maybe 5 or 6 more year, I would speculate, and the US military cannot fight even a near-peer competitor because a few hundred body bags will be political poison as well as a huge rupture in the mythology of US military might.
“China is vulnerable economically (in a sense) to dollar-based system..”
Notions of vulnerability and contingent opportunities of coercion are predicated on joint perception of vulnerability and contexts, which in the case of the PRC are informed by Chinese history through the 19th century until 1949.
In the case of “The United States of America”, they are largely informed by their focus upon, and interpretation of “The United States of America in China” history through the 19th Century until 1990 facilitates their illusion of facility in turning back time through reliance on precedence.
Hence the PRC and its associates do not perceive themselves as being significantly vulnerable economically to the US dollar-based system, whilst understanding the beliefs of opponents that they are vulnerable facilitates strategic advantages as well as blowbacks, which are capable of absorption.
“The United States of America” hopes the contrary being reliant on precedent, and engages in practices which enhances/encourages/facilitates the efforts of the PRC and others to transcend “The United States of America” including the dollar based system upon which it relies, thereby increasing the associates of the PRC.
Hi Ramin,
I enjoy reading your posts. Thanks.
I am inclined to agree, at least in part, with the following post:
https://www.zerohedge.com/geopolitical/trump-using-jcpoa-break-un-it-breaks-him
I cannot find a reference, but during Trump’s initial presidential campaign a research group at Simon Fraser University analysed facial micro expressions of the candidates. Trump stood apart from the rest as being “honest” in his public speaking. I am inclined to take his pre-presidential comments at face value, more or less.
Trumps positions at the time:
Bring the troops home
Bring the jobs home
Peaceful relations with Russia
Detach from NATO obligations
I am inclined to think that Trump is an American Nationalist in a traditional sense and not a jingoist or imperialist -MAGA.
Once he became President, I think unexpectedly, he had to swim with the sharks. In order to avoid becoming the next Dead President he needs to satisfy and maintain keys to power. Support from at least part of the military industrial, evangelical and Israeli lobbies are essential for survival. He has clearly kept some of his enemies close.
I am inclined to agree that the UN, or part of the UN, not Iran, is Trump’s target in this case, although Iran is very much a target for some of his keys to power.
“he had to swim with the sharks.”
Mr. Trump is the son of a real estate developer in New York.
Mr. Trump is a real estate developer in New York and elsewhere with relations to facilitate these activities over several years.
Mr. Trump was mentored by Mr. Roy Cohn acting as consigliere.
Mr. Trump has enjoyed a long history of swimming with would-be sharks.
” In order to avoid becoming the next Dead President he needs to satisfy and maintain keys to power. ”
Would be sharks including Mr. Trump understand that sharks rarely attack other sharks unless the shark to be attacked undermines the environment which facilitates sharks.
For those with ambitions to become/remain sharks the adherence to this understanding is motivated by self-interest of co-operation not fear.
Through his own hubris of exceptionalism, Mr. Gotti did attack the environment which facilitates sharks, but the response by others were moderated partly due to their experience of blowback between circa 1969 until 1975.
In respect to those whom from circa 1969 to 1973 undermined the environment which facilitates sharks, the responses by others were less moderate.
A similar process could be seen in Russia between 1991 and 1996.
Mr Ramin
Thank for the good article but you are missing one major element why the US doing this to Iran , which is the Israeli influence on the US foreign policy and the crazy born again Christian zionists who think Christ coming to Jerusalem to save them.
All the US policy in Middle East run but pressure from the zionists and the neocon who infiltrated the US government including Obama who turned out to be the dummest president this country ever had.
Further more the whole Iran issue is supporting and arming Hezbollah in Lebanon who is the only institution or an army which able to defeat Israel and keep it out of Lebanon .
Are we sure Iran is the target? https://tomluongo.me/2020/09/21/trump-jcpoa-break-un-before-election/
Thank you Ramin for great explanation.
