Yesterday my friend AK emailed me a few YouTube links to songs by a guy calling himself “Neuromonk Theophan” (Нейромонах Феофан). I listened to it and, wow, this is truly some crazy music!
Imagine a combination of old Russian medieval-style songs with what they call “drum and bass” and then add some balalaika and rural-style vocals to it. Sounds crazy? It is.
Now, I will be honest, I personally am a “Jazz and Baroque” kind of person. To me “drum and bass” sounds more like a tank assembly factory then music. And yet, I have to admit that in a weird way, I liked this music. A lot (maybe I am having a midlife crisis when men go crazy?).
I did some digging around the Runet, turns out that this “Neuromonk Theophan” is some kind of anonymous guy who records everything himself. He also plays in night clubs, both in Russia and even the USA.
I will gladly admit that the music is puzzling, to put it mildly. And if you tell me that you hate it – I will not object. But at the same time, the “crazy” factor is so off the scale here, that I confess that I had a blast listening to this stuff. At the very least, this will provide you with some world-class ringtones for your alarm clock :-)
Anyway, after listening to a few tracks, I went to my favorite Russian file sharing site (http://rutracker.org) and I immediately downloaded all the tracks I could find (two albums). Then, I made them available for download for those of you willing to try some truly crazy Russian stuff:

or here:

Let me know what you think, okay?
Hugs and cheers,
The Saker
PS: there are some doubles in the song list, these are different versions, just keep the one you prefer and ditch the other.
Same guy’s songs on youtube:

quite love it :-)
Immortal Regiment marches on !
Neuromonk’s sense of rhythm and melody are aaaawesome!
The dude’s remixing skills, jaw dropping, wow all the way!
My number 1 for “crazy” factor has always been Return To Forever, even after 40 years (in fact older than me)
for example: Theme to the Mothership
That Mediafire would drive me crazy.answer this question,do this ,do that.WTF? i listened to a bit on YT.Good voice,that’s it.No fireworks .
that is why I offered you a choice of TWO links.
I actually like the music very much! Thank you for point him. Interesting mix. If you have other suggestions in russian music I would like to hear them.
Catchy rhythm; I’d love to know what he is singing, judging by the audience reaction, lyrics are very appealing to the people gathered in the “Brooklyn Club” in Moscow: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUEifKPWzNI. Watch the bear at 14:27!
Fair enough for 2 links when Mega says 10 hours left and then download Fail, network error,,I somehow excluded it in my plans, silly me.
fine. where do you want me to upload it?
For the convenience of anyone with a bittorrent client compatible with
magnet links, here is a magnet link for the album.
Hi Joe K, along with your link was 5 lines with letters and signs and numbers, which I supposed you were not intending to keep in the comment, but when I edited them out, I accidently deleted the link too. I am sorry….can you post the link again….
Sure, no problem at all.
“5 lines” sounds bad, like maybe the link’s URI got attacked by some
opportunistic feral newlines. But if the “signs and numbers” just
looked like a bunch of repetitions of %XY, where X and Y are ascii
characters, then they were just the cyrillic title in
percent-encoding.
Anyways, here it is again (but with romanised title):
magnet link for Neiromonakh Feofan’s V dushe dram, v serdtse svetlaia
LOL!
Well, that was closer.
Replace ‘http://thesaker.is/wild-crazy-russian-music/’ in the link
above with ‘magnet:?xt=urn:btih:’. Then you’ll have the magnet link I
was trying to post.
Anyways, thanks for the musical interlude, Saker (and commenters, and
mods). Much appreciated.

I listened to a couple of his tunes. While I didn’t translate the lyrics, musically he sounds fairly staid, not crazy. You want crazy Russian music? This is crazy Russian music:
гр. Ленинград — Нет, и ещё раз нет / Leningrad — No and No Again
(Has subtitles, but be fore warned, some of the terminology used is not approved by Mrs. Grundy.)
Король и Шут (Нашествие 2006 Северный флот)
No comment needed. :D
Тенета- Спосіб Безсмертя
Russian Alternative Rock / Nebo Zdes – Nebo Zdes
Sleep well…
A few others I neglected (along with ID’ing the first comment):
VulgarGrad sings Zhopa
“she’s got such a gorgeous zhopa…”
Мумий Тролль и Земфира-Медведица
Мумий Тролль are a music group in Russia well known for their fooling around. Земфира is probably the most famous female singer from Russia in the last 20 years.
Boney Nem – Плачет девочка с автоматом
Bot Tak…what was the name of that female singer that did that war video that Saker posted a few months ago…really strong husky vocals…the video is ‘no longer available’…but what was her name…?
Ann
what was the name of that female singer that did that war video that Saker posted a few months ago
I’m not sure what video you are talking about. Do you have a link to Saker’s article on this? Maybe I can trace her through the video?
hi ann,
I think you refer to the video with Lou’s song(Fight club, don’t know the russian name of the song) her name is Lou Gevorkian and her band is Louna. She also has other band and one of the most well known is Tracktor Bowling.
yeah, its Lou….can you give a link to that fantastic song with the video…
Bot Tak…its the Saker article about Russia’s ready for war
Крампус – cheers.
Ann, if Lou is the singer you meant.
Louna – Fight Club (Lyric Video)
Or, the studio version merged with the film:
Louna – Бойцовский Клуб
Louna’s website
lounaband (Russian youtube channel)
LounaRocks (English youtube channel)
One of my early favourite songs from them, along with this performance:
LOUNA – Зачем? / Live / “Парный Прогон”, A-ONE
Зачем means for what? It’s an anti-war song. A-One at that time was the preeminent rock music channel on the planet. Unfortunately, they were switched to the standard zio-media pop noise around 3 years ago. Great video of Louna fooling around, where they all switched instruments and played a western rock tune:
Louna – Fight for your Right (Beastie boys cover) 03.12.2010, multicam
Lou and Vit (bass player) are part of both Louna and Tracktor Bowling. The website for Tracktor Bowling appears to be defunkt now, which is odd, because the group is still active and touring. They continue updating their youtube account, though.
tracktorbowling
Tracktor Bowling has a different style, more locally derived, more metal, instead of western rock. I actually prefer their style over Louna. A few songs by them, live:
Tracktor Bowling on Krylya Fest 2005 Russian Rock Music
Studio:
TRACKTOR BOWLING – “Walking On Glass” (“Шаги по стеклу”) 2006
Another with lyrics:
Tracktor Bowling – Обреченные
Acoustic:
TRACKTOR BOWLING – “Yours” (“Твоя”) 2007
More recent:
TRACKTOR BOWLING – “Nobody’s” (“Ничья”) 2011
Wow, thanks. I’ll work on this list tonight….
well, that didn’t take long. I’m not too fond of heavy metal…and didn’t like the lyrics to “Pain” at all, although I think that is the song for the war video that Saker posted a couple of months ago….
that video is no longer available…did anyone download it ? Can you post it ?
Thanks anyway Bot Tak…I like this better –

The South Front video was probably deleted by the zoogles when they deleted South Front’s channel a while back and South Front probably has not reuploaded it since the channel was reinstated. That’s the usual purpose of zionazi censorship, to destroy the past, so “their” present isn’t shown to be rubbish. That’s why their proxies, ISIL/banderas, for example, are encouraged to destroy archaeological and historical sites, as well. Imagine the hysterics should somebody demolish the Wailing Wall, or even just spray paint it in blue and yellow stripes.
Yes Bot Tak, I so appreciate your info on those guys…the Zionists…I really do. I have learned tons from you….and so have lots of other people….we really appreciate you buddy !!
Cant believe I forgot Noiz Orchestra, a spinoff of Дети Picasso.
Noiz Orchestra – Ангел.wmv
Noiz Orchestra – Проявка
In English, a cover of Eleanor Rigby:
noiz orchestra Гаянэ Арутюнян Eleanor Rigby
BTW, Дети Picasso have been around about 15 years or so. They are Armenian originally, and mix all sorts of styles into their music.
On Russian ТВ recently, a Russian danse performance using a Дети Picasso tune:
Танцы Юлиана Бухольц и Лариса Полунина Дети Пикассо – Матрос выпуск 18
Recently, live in Hungary:
Deti Picasso – Sareri Hovin
Incredible sound.
yes that last one picasso is great…what language is that ? Sounds kind of arabic
Armenian, I believe.
Ann
A lot of Russian music “sounds Arabic” still because Russia and the USSR used to incorporate the Central Asian republics, and a lot of their culture reflects influences from Western Asia. Current Russia, though now physically without those Central Asian republics, still retains a lot of their cultural influence, especially in music.
yeah…guess what ? I was in my grocery store today and the couple with two small children were behind me…and I thought to myself…’they look Russian’ and they were !! I asked and they were from Odessa !! And I told them I wanted to fight for Novorussia and the man smiled gently…but his wife was shuddering and said they would never go back there.
Bot Tak, you have strange taste – that elenor rigby one…weird…weird…weird….
It is much easier to get to his videos via YouTube. Try this for example…

I must say that my understanding of Russian is very, very, very poor, even though I had two semesters of it in university many years ago, but, this music is possibly some of the best Russian music I’ve listened to in a long time. While I was forced to learn Korean (a long side story on that), I tried to maintain some of my previous language knowledge by getting some Russian music cds. It didn’t work out too well, but, one of my favorite songs was by Света called Другая. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvHqKtTNRCU.
I also enjoyed Irina Mikhailova’s work.
Cheers
well, I listened for a couple of minutes to a couple of choices on youtube…I didn’t like him…boring voice, and boring instrumental…but I only listened for a very short time.
Sorry Saker, but I love this.

Well, since my musical tastes are very diverse, sometimes contradictory, and very motley, I definitely love this “Neuromonk”, and find very interesting and original his mix of folk and this kind of “neuro-frequencies”, mixing the oldest with the newest. I like his voice and that two voices combination when singing. Also I find his look so funny……
I would like to understand the words that surely are not a waste. I guess their concerts are a good opportunity to spend a fun time….

UK parliament has passed a new legislation giving the intelligence officers and police immunity from prosecution for hacking into computers, laptos and mobile phones.
The unnoticed rewriting of a key clause of the Computer Misuse Act has exempted law enforcement officials from the prohibition on breaking into other people’s laptops, databases, mobile phones or digital systems. It came into force in May.

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei blasted the US for trying to make the Persian Gulf insecure, warning that insecurity in the waterway poses a stability and security threat to all the regional states.
“The US is not seeking the security in the Persian Gulf and it is not qualified to comment in this regard,” the Supreme Leader said, addressing a group of officials, Muslim countries’ ambassadors and Iranians from different walks of life in a meeting in Tehran on Saturday marking the anniversary of the appointment of Islam’s Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) to his divine mission.

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Syrian army has killed the so-called oil minster of the ISIL terrorist group in Deir Ezzur, Syrian state TV announced Saturday.
According to the country’s state TV, the Syrian troops managed to claim the life of the Takfiri group’s oil minister along with 40 other militants during a major offensive on Friday in Syria’s Eastern city of Deir Ezzur.
Back in April, Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, Saddam Hussein’s Right-Hand Man and a senior commander of the ISIL Takfiri group, was killed during an operation by Iraqi popular forces in Salahuddin province in Iraq.

US Special Forces Kill ISIL’s Abu Sayyaf in Syria Raid
May 16, 2015 – 17:54
TEHRAN (Tasnim) – US special forces killed a senior figure of the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group during a raid carried out in eastern Syria, the US secretary of defense announced.

Pentagon chief Ash Carter said in a statement on Saturday that the raid had killed Abu Sayyaf when he “engaged US forces”.
Abu Sayyaf’s wife was captured during the operation and is currently being detained by the US military in Iraq.
The statement said Abu Sayyaf was involved in planning ISIL’s military operations and had helped direct its oil, gas, and financial operations, Al Jazeera reported.

Thanks for sharing this with us, Saker. It put a great big smile on this old Drum’n’Bass pundit’s face. In that element, there’s nothing in this that hasn’t been there 15 years ago, but the combination with the Balalaika and this sing-along style -the content of which I unfortunately don’t understand – is hilarious.
As far as Drum and Bass goes, this is indeed not very wild and/or crazy, though. Try this or that.
Oh. After you recommended us Pelageya, here’s another jolly good music! He has a good clean voice, I really like listening to it even though the style is not exactly my jug of kvas. I’m adding it into my “Russian” playlist from now on, thank you!
Some other things I play often these days:
Arkona, Slavic folk-metal: 1, 2, 3, 4 (yes, that is her real voice)
Valery Kipelov, formerly from Aria, with some lovely, slow, old school rock/metal: 1, 2
Nautilus Pompilius, self-described “Ural-rock”: 1, 2
Nikolay Yemelin – 1, 2 “Мы выдержим с тобой, браток! Бывало хуже!” Damn it, instant goosebumps. This patriotic bogatyr-like streak is getting quite strong in Russian music lately, isn’t it?
And of course, here’s my all-time favorite in Soviet pop-music – Трава у Дома from “Zemlyane”. For no good reason, other than I spent too much time reading the Strugatsky brothers’ and Kir Bulychev’s books as a kid.
Hi EK … well I really liked this one…https://youtu.be/7YdzXX0TTGU…but not as much as I like Pelagya….
And I must tell you something kind of weird…that singer’s voice..that you mentioned…I think its an operation that causes that huskiness…like Bonnie Tyler here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zSAow-RRQuI … and here (my favorite of her’s)

Can anyone tell me who the ‘aggro’ male singer was at the Red Square concert or supply a link to any of his songs/albums. I never understood a word, but his voice spoke to my heart!
https://youtu.be/GTqmWzx8ds4?t=4321 at 1:12:00
Grigory Leps (Григорий Лепс) and the song title is «Спасите наши души» (Spasite nashi dushi), i.e., «Save our souls». The information is in fact provided as subtitles in the video that you link to (that’s how I found it), but it is obscured by the logo of Ruptly.
what does Agro mean ?
“Aggresive”, as a characterisation of the raspy, violent singing delivery (hence the spelling, with two g’s). By the way, yesterday, after posting the above reply, I searched for the original version which was by Vladimir Visotsky (1970). That turned out to be even more aggresive, in its way:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Wcq_-JKDyQ
I loved both versions.
Like it, not a bit crazy but a fun mix of traditional with some good Drum n Bass / Jungle Electro.
I like it, and the grungy electronica mixes well. This kind of music lends it self well to remixing by DJ’s with the strong basic melodic elements he has in it. Much potential and fun.
