I just got the link to this beautiful video sent to me by a friend. It is one of those flash mobs with a musical theme that have become popular in the recent years. This time it is in the (thoroughly) Russian city of Zaporozhie in the (currently Nazi-occupied) Ukraine. The song, in Russian, is a very well known-song from a Soviet movie filmed in Zaporozhie in the 1950s. 83 singers participated in this events organized by a local TV station and a major local steelmaker “Zaporozhstal'”.
Those interested in the original movie can view it here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v4-HNGJRSbs (in the original black and white, in Russian).
The song, entitled “Spring on the Zarechnaia Street” is one of my absolute favorite Russian songs. I hope that you enjoy it as much as I do, and I hope that beauty will return to all the Ukraine soon.
The Saker
> Will beauty save the world?
I’ve been asking myself that very same question the past few months. I’ve always loved this quote from Leonard Bernstein: “This will be our reply to violence: to make music more intensely, more beautifully, more devotedly than ever before.”
I’ve decided that for myself, the answer is yes. If the species is going down, I would prefer to focus on the beautiful, since our species has deep flaws that preclude our evolving to a place where we cannot stop soiling our own nest for the benefit of the worst among us. We hold ourselves back to easily from allowing space for peace and true evolution to happen.
The band on the Titanic is my role model right now. Since the forces of greed, power, and ignorance have won, I am leaving the field of play to devote myself to what is beautiful while I still can.
I really enjoy the flash mob dancers in other videos.

This song, sung in Ukraine, seems to be such a powerful expression of Russian culture. A love-filled song, protest of sorts, a signal to the world.
Ukraine should never have been separated from the RF.
I hope this city soon is freed from the crazed grasp of the Ukies. It is close to Donbass, obviously part of the hoped for Novorossiya.
Their voices are very musical and in 4 part harmony too! And so spontaneous. This one aspect I love about the Russians.
I laughed! I cried! No, really… both at the same time.
I watched the movie too. What a treat!
I do not know about the world but beauty sure can make my day!
Thanks Saker
