Note: today I am happy to share with you a report written by a friend and reader, ‘Y’, who asked that I convey to you his words that “I am not presenting myself as an expert on the involved history and politics of Transcarpathia. My intention is just to point out the importance of this under-reported region and that not all Ukrainians are fascist supporters“. I am immensely grateful to “Y” for his contribution which is far more interesting than much of what the so-called “experts” write. I also fully agree that it is important to keep an eye on the western Ukraine. I hope that with the help of “Y” we will be able to keep an eye on this important region.
The Saker
——-
Reports from Ukraine naturally focus on the horrendous murderous onslaught against the Russian-speaking people in south east Ukraine. Does this mean that all is quiet throughout the rest of the country?
It turns out there is a great deal of sporadic low-level activity against the Ukraine regime. This takes many forms, from peaceful protest to targeted acts of sabotage.
In Odessa, all seems quiet. Many photographs of groups of people displaying the Ukraine flag in oppressions have appeared, with some people wearing the Ukrainian embroidered shirt (Vyshyvka). These include shots of photogenic young women with flowers in their hair. However, the Right Sector symbolism no longer overtly appears. On the other hand, a candle-lit display was held outside the Trades Union building in remembrance of the killed during the false flag operation earlier in May 2014. There are undercurrents of propaganda warfare in which public monuments are painted in a cycle of Ukraine colors followed by Novorossia colors. Interestingly, the Novorossia colors are staying for longer periods of time, suggesting the other side has a reduced capacity to monitor and restore the Ukraine colors. At a more extreme level, branches of Privat Bank have suffered damage from small bombs exploded late at night. This represents an attack on the interests of Kolomoisky, the local oligarch.
In Mariupol, the scene of another attack by Ukraine forces against civilians and police in May, things also seem quiet, but checkpoints still exist on the major roads. Unconfirmed reports suggest the area may be quiet as a result of intimidation from the local right wing groups. Lyashko is reported to have commandeered the house and extensive grounds of a property belonging to Yanukovich. This is located at Uzuf, 20 miles west of Mariupol overlooking the Sea of Azov. This may have been used as the base for training of members of the Azov battalion. Interestingly, a ex-Azov member grew disenchanted with Lyashko, claiming the battalion was used primarily as a vehicle for Lyashko’s political ambitions rather than fighting in the south east. There are numerous YouTube videos supporting this, typically showing members rough handling someone or other, described as a separatist supporter, with Lyashko shouting at and intimidating the poor victim. There are more recent reports of guerilla activity against the checkpoints and other targets around Mariupol. Recent reports suggest more concerted attacks are underway. Is this the start of a second front?
Unconfirmed reports suggest that there is a base nearby where US military specialists train Ukrainians in preparation for being sent to Donbass. There have been claims made that a number of these US individuals have been killed by snipers, one whilst bathing on the beach at Mariupol on 30 July and another on 22 August. A video of this last incident was uploaded to YouTube late in the evening of the 22nd, but was quickly removed, possibly within 12 hours and certainly within 24 hours.
Elsewhere, there have been numerous protests by women throughout Ukraine opposing the mobilisation, now in its third phase. The number reported certainly underestimates the actual number of protests, as one only came to notice because a group from OSCE just happened to be in the place the protests was held at the right time. This event was noted on their website. Until recently most evidence for propaganda took the form of the usual pro-Ukraine march, with large banners, people draping themselves in the flag, the Vyshyvka shirt and the photogenic young women with flowers in their hair. This weekend, a large march was held in Kharkiv, with pro-Novorossia supporters doing the same. They had a large 30 m banner with St George stripes, people were draping themselves in St George flags and women wearing St George ribbons in their hair. The demonstration passed of peacefully, with no sign of the Right Sector opposition.
At the other extreme, there have been attempts at tactical sabotage of infrastructure, typically roads and railways. In the most recent case, a convoy of Ukrainian military fuel tankers was destroyed at a place where the road crossed a railway line. This served to sever both communications routes. The attack made use of mines, RPGs an armor piercing bullets, which in turn suggests effective prior surveillance and planning capabilities for the attackers. The attack took place in central Zaporozhye, the oblast immediately west of Donetsk oblast.
The effects of the mobilisation have had a more substantial effect on two specific areas, one (Transcarpathia) within Ukraine and one (Transnistria) adjoining Ukraine.
Transnistria is a narrow land-locked strip of territory between Moldova and Ukraine. It lies to the east of the river Dniester. It was once part of Moldova but following civil war in 1990-2 and a subsequent cease fire, it is now in an unclear legal position. The inhabitants are strongly pro-Russian and have recently asked to join the Russian Federation. Transnistria is not formally recognized by any major state, but does have a Russian troop presence. The European Court of Human Rights considers that the presence of Russian troops gives Russia effective authority over the territory. Russia states that the troops are there to keep the peace and will be withdrawn once a full settlement is reached. Ukraine is busy constructing a large trench, 5 m wide and 2.5 m deep, along the border with Transnistria. This has raised tensions within Transnistria, though in meetings with the US Ambassador to Moldova, they have stressed they are not proposing to attack anyone. Some speculate that Ukraine is raising tensions here in order to provoke a response from Russia. Any Russian military support would have to cross Ukraine territory allowing it to place Russia in the role of aggressor.
Moldova itself is pro-EU. The EU Association agreement will proceed to completion, though this does not imply automatic integration with the EU. Moldova is expected to go ahead with full integration in the near future. There are a number of complicating factors. The main arises from Moldova’s complete reliance on gas from Russia, the supply pipelines for which just happen to pass through Transnistria. Transnistria owes about $4 billion to Gazprom for gas supplied, but Moldova is held responsible for the bill. A second complication arises from a desire of another ethnic group’s desire to secede from Moldova. Gaugazia seeks to join Transnistria in an attempt to join the Russian Federation.
The second region, Transcarpathia, forms the western most oblast of Ukraine. It borders four other European countries; Poland, Slovakia, Hungary and Romania. It has a very involved political history and a very diverse ethnic composition. The majority speak Ukrainian with a significant minority speaking Hungarian. It is the home of an ethnic group, the Carpathian Rus, whose members spread into south Poland, north Romania and east Slovakia. The terrain is very hilly with steep narrow valleys, making it attractive for tourists.
This area of about 1.2 million people has seen protests against the mobilisation following the deaths in combat of 70 people from the area. The area is also under the control of a regional oligarch, another source of discontent. In the past, Right Sector members have stormed government buildings in the Transcarpathian towns of Berehove and Uzhhorod. The plight of the Hungarians has attracted the attention of the right wing Jobbik party in Hungary who see support for them as a means of gaining votes in Hungary. Representatives of the major Transcarpathian groups have come together announcing their opposition to the Ukrainian regime, and have signed a treaty of mutual assistance and support recently in Yalta. Recently the regional head of the Ukrainian SU has been replaced. A small contingent of Ukrainian military, about 1500 troops and some supporting armored vehicles, has been brought in and stationed near Uzhhorod, a major town close to the border with Slovakia. This seems to be an attempt to clamp down more effectively and to prevent a repeat the events that happened in the south east.
All four countries bordering Transcarpathia have been hit by Russia’s reverse sanctions following the imposition of EU sanctions against it. In particular, Hungary has a major trading partner in Russia. Russia is also has a nuclear reactor deal with Hungary to provide it with an alternative energy supply. providing nuclear energy technology. It appears that Hungary would have a strong interest in co-operating with Russia, particularly over the Transcarpathian issue.
Transcarpathia gains additional significance as most of the gas pipelines carrying gas to western Europe pass through it. If Russia was to gain control of this territory, it would then control this choke point on the gas system. This would negate any attempts by the US to gain control of gas flow through Ukraine. This in turn may partly explain Yatsenyuk’s haste to sell off Ukraine’s pipeline infrastructure. The loss of state control through privatization may in turn have been countered as, in a surprising recent announcement, it seems that Russian interests have acquired ownership of a German company, RWE. This company controls most of the reverse flow pipeline bringing gas back from West Europe into Ukraine.
It seems that all is superficially quiet beyond Novorossia, but this is deceptive and there is scope for dramatic changes. Is the action at Mariupol the start of a second front? Will the events at Kharkiv occur elsewhere? Will the fighting in the south east have the positive benefit of removing fascism from Ukraine? Will a neutral, federated Ukraine arise? Would that be based on existing oblasts or larger ethnic regions? Will Transnistria merge into such a state? Will the curse of the oligarchs be tamed?
I think Hungary would definitely have a strong reason for aligning itself with the FR, despite the history of the last half of the c20.
Orbans’ government is thoroughly on the outs with the EU – and has interestingly refused any attempts by Brussels to dictate economic policy. Hungary is not part of te eurozone.
having said that, they face very similar problems to Ukraine – cross-currents of right-wing, nationalist, (not at all the same thing but easily co-opted by the right), liberal-left, socialist-left and former communist- now more or less control-freaks more than anything else.
I would be very interested t hear about the Magyar minority’s views in Ukraine.
BTW: when are you going to stand up the “disappearances” in Kiev, Kharkhov and Odessa, which you referred to? Seriously. I come here to your site because I am very concerned about what is happening to ordinary people in Ukraine, whatever their ethnicity or supposed political allegiances, and think you are better informed than the EU media. Inform me, please.
Sometimes I feel this site is an echo chamber for Russian nationalists. I happen to think Russia has played a good hand in Ukraine, and generally in recent years. However that does not make me anymore likely to assume the FR is a global force for good that any other regional hegemon, aspiring to dethrone the current world hegemon.
Tell me about the Kiev disappearances. In detail.

You just have to sit back and admire the strategic thinking and action that completed this deal months ago in anticipation that Ukraine would try to do a reverse gas deal.
The people of the Carpathian region referred to have always called themselves “Carpatho-Russians” and considered themselves part of the overall Russian nation just like Russians in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. They have had a history of rejecting Ukrainian separatism since it was started up by the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the years after the Revolutions of 1848. They have always rejected the very idea of being part of the Ukraine which they see as an artificial constuct of the Soviet Communist regime which always acted against Russian national interests. ((Another example is transferring Novorussia in 1922 to Ukraine for no good reason.)
Hi Aoife,
Nice to know another irish reader here. It’s a sad but fascinating situation that we’re not being told about on the msm.

For those on Twitter who are interested in advocating for Novorussia, maybe the best mainstream western journalists currently available are @asluhn (Guardian), @harrietsalem (Vice) and @maxseddon (Buzzfeed). They are all good writers and generally deliver more balanced presentations, in the context of the prevailing US war propaganda environment.

Terrifically informative background brief concerning the Western Front.
Thank you for the clear presentation and details.
Excellent with maps also.

This is an incredible failure and yet no one has lost their job in Kiev?
Does that 12k include fascist militias too? Wow unsustainable by any measure

Sometimes I feel this site is an echo chamber for Russian nationalists.
Given the circumstances, I think the proud Russians at Saker blog have done an admirable job of containing their justifiable rage and overt nationalism. Your emphasis is wrong even though I agree with the sentiment.
It is always good to highlight those who’ve been forgotten. Do you know any of the names or stories of the dissappeared? This is a joint operation. All of us should contribute in any way we can.

I posted a link to this article at ZeroHedge on 7 August (where I never pass up an opportunity to link to The Vineyard of the Saker ;-)), and might have included it within a comment or two here:
Ukraine – the Bee War
Brad Cabana — Rock Solid Politics
9 June 2014
Excerpt:
In fact, the war in Ukraine has its origins in, believe it or not, the honey bee…
Russia blamed the decline of the bees on genetically modified crops (GMO). Specifically, Russia accused Monsanto of killing off the bees by use of a neuro-toxin…
The issue boiled over when, last year, …Obama passed a bill…protecting Monsanto from civil suits in the US over its use of GMOs. Putin was so infuriated with Obama he made John Kerry wait for three hours for a scheduled diplomatic meeting. Putin also indicated that the issue could lead to world war.…
Saker,
Do you have any information about the following breaking news concerning the downing of the Malaysia Airlines flight?

To Aoife:
In terms of the anti-Russian terror environment in Kiev, Kharkiv, Odessa and elsewhere, I would suggest reading the two White Books on human rights violations in Ukraine published by the Russian government. The record describes an extensive record of political violence and intimidation.
However, there has and continues to be little reporting from Ukraine proper in the world media. Much less from Novorussia or Crimea, there has been practically no reporting from Kiev itself since the beginning of the ‘ATO’ . . . the English language accounts of continuing political repression are now generally expressed on Twitter, Facebook and blogs like this one. There is extensive anecdotal evidence suggesting 100s of political prisoners, 1,000s of disappearances, a general breakdown of law and order, SBU operating in NKVD mode, Right Sector freelance activities, etc.
That’s wonderful info about the honey bee.. so like Putin come to think of it….
All Hail to the Honey Bee !!!
Wild guesses.
–Is the action at Mariupol the start of a second front?
-Yes.
–Will the events at Kharkiv occur elsewhere?
-Yes.
–Will the fighting in the south east have the positive benefit of removing fascism from Ukraine?
-Only if the people who support fascism are removed. The new Canadian province of West Galicia may look good to Harper. It can be part of Alberta.
–Will a neutral, federated Ukraine arise?
-See previous answer. What to do with the 5,000,000 who dislike or hate Russia?
–Would that be based on existing oblasts or larger ethnic regions?
-Depends upon the oligarchs and Russia.
–Will Transnistria merge into such a state?
-Yes.
–Will the curse of the oligarchs be tamed?
-To a large degree. But they may move to the new province of Poland, Galicia, or West Galicia in Canada.
Baboo here,
JMHO Saker but too much philosophizing and not enough real hard data from many of the commenters. People that want to hug each other and sing Kumbaya should get a room and leave this place for reality.
Nora,
Did you ever see that Swiss mainstream study that came to the conclusion that one can make the argument that there is one company in the West that largely owns everything? In other words, Monsanto is Citibank is Halliburton is DuPont etc. As far as we can see, that would be coming out of the banking families and perhaps royalty and the weapons business.
The key company according to them is Barclay’s bank.
Transcarpathia is key to this whole situation. If the fascists in Kiev try and suppress any local dissent in Transcarpathia you can be sure Hungary will get involved to protect ethnic Hungarians.
Hungary (being a member of NATO), brings with it the entirety of the NATO alliance. If the fascist Ukrainians get drawn into some kind of conflict with Hungary/ Slovakia, who knows what could happen?
Additionally, there will be no progress at the Minsk talks this week. The talks are “window dressing” to make sure all the folks are seen to be “doing the right thing”.
There are too many key dates coming up.
September 4-5, 2014 – NATO War Summit in Wales. No way anything will happen in lieu of this meeting.
First week of September (September 7, 2014) – MH17 Preliminary Report apparently going to be released. This might be a snowjob. If it is, expect a strong and forceful Russian reaction.
September 14, 2014 – Elections in St. Petersburg & Sweden. What’s the situation in Sweden? Are the parties split at all on NATO membership?
Sweden is not currently a member of NATO, I’d be very interested to know if the major parties in Sweden hold different views on membership of NATO?
That should be a major talking point in Sweden at the moment, but I could give a guess and say it isn’t, or they’re in broad agreement.
I wouldn’t expect any hope of any agreement until November at the earliest.
The other thing is – currently both sides would still believe they’re capable of winning this conflict. This won’t change over the next few weeks, and possibly not for another few months either. So no reason for either side to “sue for peace” at present.
the honey bee… is important to civilization.. And I see reports here and there about large scale disappearance of them all over the world.
But I have not seen any studies to determine why this is so..
I also have a hard time understanding this would be done on purpose or even for money. I mean what good is money if the world just goes to sht? It is also why I have a hard time understanding a lot of things going on. You can go on a power trip but everyone still have to live on this planet. Not like they can just take it with them. Destroying the world to make a buck just does not make sense. Technology can help humanity a LOT, but it is not like technology can replace the damages we can do to the planet. We cant even safely store nuclear waste anywhere now. And when we do store it somewhere we need a secure location which cost as much as a huge secure base as nuclear weapons storage facilities.
@ Y,
Thank you for your thoughtful insight and the sharing of your views.
This is never about agreeing [on anything], but about a willingness to accept differences and live with them, accept them for what they are.
As a people we can never be as ‘one’, think as ‘one’, act as ‘one.’ What ‘we’ should keep in mind is the fact that anyone else might want to be treated the way ‘we’ want to be treated and take it from there.
The daily sowing of distrust [through deliberate misinformation, lies and propaganda] have only one goal and that’s to declare ‘the others’ to be the enemy and the root cause of all trouble. Never pick a fight with a majority, always go after the minority.
Unfortunately for the KFK infantry, this minority doesn’t sit around like garden gnomes, they’ve come alive [despite all the killing you do] and the death and mayhem you create around them [in the form of too many dead innocents], feeds their frenzy, their lust for your blood. So, yes KFK, bring it on…
@ Bambi,
Q: People that want to hug each other and sing Kumbaya should get a room and leave this place for reality.
R: Did anyone appoint you as this site’s KaPo?
If so, can you meet me tonight behind Stalag 13, just after 8?
I won’t hug. I promise.
One point about Ukrainian speakers being a majority in Transcarpathia, isn’t this because Kiev insists on recording Rusyn speakers as Ukrainian?
The Transdniester problem is rather complicated.
The area was conquered by Russia simultaneously with the Odessa region more than a century ago. However, Stalin turned it into a “Moldova” republic to highlight his territorial claims that he later realized with the annexation of Romanian Moldova in 1939 as part of the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact.
There would be some logic in attaching it back to Ukraine. However, Ukraine has not been interested. It fears demands for ethnic borders elsewhere. North of Moldova there is an area in Ukraine with a Romanian majority. And then there are those Russian speakers…

About the honey bee … there is no doubt what kills the honey bee. It’s stuff called Neonikotinoide used in insecticides. They act on lots of insects, not just the honey bee. Effects start from reducing the honey bee’s performance/diligence to disabling its orientation to killing it. The more the merrier.
These insecticides are produced by agro-chemical companies such as Bayer and Syngenta. Monsanto sells seeds impregnated with Neonikotinoide, so the poison is in the soil and the plant from the very start.
The honey bee collects the poison along with the nectar.
Once the honey bee is gone, pollination for lots of crops won’t happen any more, hence big worries. Among other things, humans will starve.
Now Monsanto will have the GMO solution to this issue. It’ll work without relying on the old-fashioned honey bee, by parthenogenesis, which will produce fruits, but without seeds. So whoever wants to eat will have to rely on Monsanto, year after year.
This is a threat to humanity.
It seems the EU has been talked into allowing GMO to member countries. In my opinion, whoever is responsible for allowing this is deservant of the gallows. And of course the legislation should simply be declared null and void because it is unethical.

This is weakness disguised as strength and as such I’m now convinced the people of Donbass will prevail.
It’s been rumoured that Monsanto have developed a species of insect immune to their poison, with which they hope to replace the honey bee.

fair points…western countries were run by psychopaths, it’s hard to find any other rational explanation..they were so blinded by greed and some projected vision of superiority which have ruined any hope of sane thinking…
The “Dirty Dozen” 12 Neo-Cons (or Useful Idiots) Obama needs to sack if he is to restore his credibility for the final 2 years of his Presidency.
1. Vice President Joe Biden (Corruption, Incompetence, Treason)
2. Assistant Secretary of State for European & Eurasian Affairs Victoria Nuland (Incompetence, Treason)
3. United States Ambassador to Ukraine Geoffrey Pyatt (Incompetence, Treason)
4. Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA Head) John O. Brennan (Incompetence, Treason)
5. Secretary of State John Kerry (Incompetence)
6. United States Ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power (Incompetence)
7. National Security Advisor Susan Rice (Incompetence)
8. United States State Department Spokesperson Jen Psaki (Incompetence)
9. Deputy United States State Department Spokesperson Marie Harf (Incompetence)
10. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey (Incompetence)
11. Attorney-General Eric Holder (Incompetence)
12. Commander, US European Command, General Philip Breedlove (Incompetence, Treason)
If Obama fires a majority of these fools before the year is out, my respect in him will return. Frankly, I doubt he has it in him, but all patriotic Americans (Democrats & Republicans) should be calling for the removal of these incompetents before they can do more damage to the United States and the International Community.
Some might think this call drastic – but if this “Dirty Dozen” were removed from their current positions, I have no doubt Putin would also gain newfound respect for Obama and on the back of that – a peaceful resolution to the crisis in Ukraine could be found. Doing so would also assist in finding a peaceful and co-operative solution to the problems in Syria & Iraq – of that I have no doubt.
Does Obama have the cojones to show such leadership? Personally, I doubt it. It seems he either doesn’t care, or he feels trapped by events and unable to influence them.
The fact is, he can, if someone he trusts could convince him that this “Dirty Dozen” need to be removed from their current positions, there might still be hope to avoid a descent into what could very easily turn into World War 3.
Who does Obama listen to, and how do we get a hold of them?
Getting rid of the “Dirty Dozen” that are currently dragging Obama’s Presidency into the mud, and will eventually destroy his legacy (whatever it actually is), is an absolute necessity for the American people, and also for President Obama himself – if he is to retain a shred of credibility after his Presidency is but a footnote in history.
Who do we contact?
A bit offtopic may be…I’ve thought about the whole “Strelkov story” for a while and at first it looked to me like the oh so familiar power game-a potent figure arises, potential treat for the power status quo and the “nest of vipers” stationed at the Kremlin(and at any other seat of power for that matter)gets bisy dealing with him. But…if ones look at it from a different angle-we have a Legend in the making here…Look at Strelkovs biography-a True Russian Hero.He has been always there where the Motherland needed him the most…The interest of the Motherland is always first! And what about Putin-~8 years in office left…”who” is going to be the next Patriot,Leader,President of the RF-Medvedev mmm NO.Eight years to go…Igor Ivanovich may be headed to performing the ultimate service to the Motherland..And he has “the looks” too;)
@AlienTech Says: I have a hard time understanding a lot of things going on.
Can I suggest you read Bob Altemeyer’s book The Authoritarians.
http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~altemey/
This is a fascinating account of the analysis and results of a game he devised for small teams to represent a country or region. The teams choose leaders and negotiate deals for their people.
It’s a sort of offline version of Microsoft’s Age of Empires (or the board game Risk) where 100 years is played out in less than a day. The experiment, carried out hundreds of times in US universities and colleges pitches two distinct types of group against each other; Right Wing Authoritarians (think politicians, leaders, businessmen, petty tyrants) and Liberals (everyone else).
With few exceptions, RWAs always end up completely destroying the world. In many cases, the game is stopped early to advise RWAs their course of action would lead to global destruction, and given the chance to restart the game. Guess what happens? Yep, they destroyed the world again and in some cases, again, and again.
Altemeyer has conducted this game with thousands of students in universities all over the world.
Personally I had a light bulb moment when I read this book. I understand more about why people behave this way now. Altemeyer has interviewed RWA’s for years now to find out why they are like this. It turns out that in almost every single case RWA’s are parented around a single, undulating, continuous frame of reference:
Fear
Equally he’s interviewed ‘liberals’ and found and equally common thread around parenting: Nurture, open mindedness, critical thinking, etc
I urge everyone to read this (short) book. It’s very liberating (sic). It also has the test you can take he uses to determine RWA pathology.
Aoife, O King of faint praise – [I] think you are better informed than the EU media. Inform me, please. Why not find this out for yourself, and post a digest here? When did this become an ephemeral news site, anyway? Why put even more pressure on the frighteningly overworked Saker?
The NATOtalitarians have Russia in their cross-hairs, and are determined to destroy her. Any Russian opposed to the globalists has to be a “Russian nationalist” by definition. Do you expect them to voluntarily submit to another Yeltsin genocide? They are trying to re-establish international law and a co-operative diplomacy between sovereign nations. How does this become new-boss-same-as-the-old-boss?
Paul II,
No, but that sounds about right, doesn’t it? Especially with interlocking directorates and such. It also reminds me of one particular (very) late-night not-wholly-sober discussion waaaay back in the day when a mathematically-inclined friend started playing around with the concept of the entire universe being comprised of one atom over time and space. You probably had to be there, and being young and a little schnockered didn’t hurt, but it sure did seem profound, and fun, simultaneously. And a bank located in City of London at the center of all of it —– gee, what a surprise! Not.
Baboo,
We didn’t sing Kumbaya though. ;~) I’m pretty sure it was Boolavogue.
Alien Tech, Lumi
Lumi is quite correct about neonicotinoid pesticides, originally made by Bayer but now by lots of other folks also, having been found to cause Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD). But the good news is that ordinary honeybees (i.e., ones that live in the wild or in permanent hives on people’s properties) have returned in many cases to close to their previous numbers — the ones in our barn wall (!) went from 450,000 down to maybe 75,000 but they’re just about right back up there again. The bee colonies that got hit hardest were the commerical ones that people truck all over the country to fertilize large monocrop fields. And perhaps there’s a lesson in that also. And of course neonicotinoids are just one on an ever-expanding list of seriously harmful agricultural chemicals that will never get banned here; Putin appears fairly serious about the worth of organic agriculture though, and, darn it, the EU certainly used to be (don’t you wonder how much the current inroads into your old anti-GMO policy cost The Conglomerate formerly known as Monsanto/Barclays Bank? Folks living there: please stop them, for your own sakes! RoundUp, a commonly-used pesticide here and the mainstay of GMO corn, hangs around in the soil, and animal cells, just about forever and has been found to cause significant damage in honestly-performed (as opposed to Monsanto-performed) studies. Plus, various weeds — big surprise — have become RoundUp-resistant, and are now called super-weeds, though of course it was totally predicted at the time by everyone who knew anything about this stuff.)

Larchmonter,
You’re citing a book from 1951??? Might your extensive library perhaps have anything more recent?
And while I’ll agree with you that the DSM is a committee affair, hence hardly apolitical, the field has advanced just a twee in the past 63 years. In fact, one whole hell of a lot. Is any part of it perfect? Of course not, there are many complaints and problems — it just helps to have some actual facts under one’s belt to make them rather than just spouting off angry, condescending words when you don’t even know what they mean, and then slippy-sliding away with yet other pompous pronouncements.
I would also point out that, without advanced training, you are hardly in any kind of position to make any judgments on what is or is not “the end-all” of psychology, psychiatry or psychoanalysis. You may certainly ignore all three, but you haven’t a shred of the knowledge or experience to discount them on any other basis than your own visceral emotions. Aka, ignorance. And as for your father, I assume he was a wonderful man, but his position back then doesn’t necessarily correlate with either up-to-date knowledge or training; knowledge does advance, you know. That’s the beauty of science. ;~)
And no, dear, this is not a matter of opinion. It’s a matter of fact. I can’t force you to pay more attention to sourcing what you say, I can merely point out the incredible bloopers you make when you don’t. You’re a Christian, right? Try some humility; it would serve you well. So would being able to admit when you’re wrong — that’s the only way any adult learns, actually. And you really stepped in it here. Sorry.

Saker, it seems that grumbling about the Kiev regime’s incompetence and corruption is increasing even among ethnic Ukrainian nationalists. The Kyiv Post, normally very pro-regime, just released an article that was surprising candid and very critical of the regime’s handling of the war in the Donbass. Money quote:
“With disillusionment and anger at the Ukrainian government and army leadership rising, it is a question how long volunteers like Semenchenko and his men will continue fighting – or rather, just where they think that fight should be taking place.
“Glyadelov and his fellow photographers decided to disregard principles of wartime secrets or keeping up national morale in order to speak out about what they are witnessing: that more and more volunteer soldiers, tired of the government’s inability to support them, are talking about finishing the war in the east and then turning their guns on Kyiv.”
Kiev may be approaching it’s own breaking point now, too.

@Maedhros:
“NATO exists EXCLUSIVELY to further Americans’ interests AND ONLY Americans’ interests.”
CORRECTION: NATO exists to further the interests of an imperialistic elite, not the American people. The people pay higher taxes (or encumber more debt) in order to maintain an ‘alliance’ (a corrupt Delian league, really) that does not protect them in any way, shape, or form. In fact, it only exposes us the risk of war in the Eastern Hemisphere. NATO is an imperial project. It has nothing to do with American defense or national interest. Like much else though, people have been brainwashed into accepting this through the generations.
clck and scroll down fir an amusing photograph with Putin telling Obama, “Yes, we can”
http://www.imolaoggi.it/2014/08/23/cose-divertenti-accadono-in-ucraina/
Now is when the chaos really begins. Commander of the Donbass Battalion, who is probably the most respected and reality-based anti-NAF figure, recently stated ‘volunteers should run the government’ and announced new recruiting drive for a partisan movement. The Army itself is in disarray, without funds, organization, infiltrated, defecting, losing, KIA, WIA, MIA. With the current NAF assault, it is now clear that the Kiev government is no longer the ‘winning’ party. That becomes clear to civilians in the Southeast, and the Donetsk parade was helpful internal propaganda. Russia just recognized Poroshenko as president of Ukraine – which means he is now officially and legally responsible for the war crimes of the ATO. The NAF is tending towards an ideologically socialist goal now, instead of a strictly ‘pro-Russia’ character. Which aligns it some of the best of the currently ‘pro-Kiev’ forces. Economic disaster is not a prospect, it is a current reality. And winter is coming.
Poroshenko cannot create a ceasefire even if he wanted to. And just to offer one would create a coup. At the same time, only Russia can and will pay for the final solution in Ukraine – but only at the right time and for the right result. While Russia waits, the NAF and associated forces will go stronger. Russian humanitarian aid will wind up in Donetsk, Mariupol, Kharkiv this winter – how soon in Odessa?
Now we enter the time of the Black Army and the Red Army.
Meanwhile RT reports “Lavrov: Russia to send another humanitarian convoy to Ukraine”.
I hope the RF will flood East Ukraine with white trucks.
It is a good thing to do. No question.

Which shows an interesting study of the global economy through Fractal Mathematics showing the vast ownership of most of the Western Economic System is in the hands of a few Bankers. If this is not Oligarchy then I know not what is. We are being herded into a new Dark Ages in the West by these people, for anyone who misses the historical reference, look up the the monopolization of trade and subsequent results on humanity.
This time the Feudal System is to be implemented on a global scale but there seems to be resistance to such plans. As I have stated earlier on this blog, we are in a fight for the soul of humanity. It is that dire.
Also, aside from bees and GMO food issues, look into rt.com for a recent article on micro plastic contamination of the food chain, a study out of Australia seeing the effect of plastics in commercial product waste that is toxifying the food chain. What people need to realise is what plastic molecules can do and their effect when ingested into living organisms. The glories of the Free Market, cough.
If you need a hint, look up how plastic molecules can absorb other toxins and then the effect that has on the food chain.
Anyway, back to Novo Rossiya, Our thoughts and prayers for you. God Bless and may your cause find voice in the conscience of the global population. Your fight is our fight, do not compromise with oligarchs or your ideals.
Justin.
Oh, another post. With regards to issues with declining bee populations, the culprits seem to be a combination of GMO Crops and Pesticides. A good starting point would be here for a look at the research.

There is much more information on the web available if required. Also Petro chemical farming combined with mechanisation has caused massive environmental damage. Hollande Unexpectedly Dissolves Government
Submitted by Tyler Durden on 08/25/2014 – 08:02
Earlier this morning, those expecting an out of control European deflationary tumble got one step closer to their goal when French President Francois Hollande asked his prime minister, who only assumed the post a few short months ago in March, to form a new government, following what Reuters reported was him “looking to impose his will on the cabinet after rebel leftist ministers had called for an economic policy U-turn” spearheaded by economy minister Arnaud Montebourg demanding an end to French “austerity.” The Guardian is somewhat more direct and to the point: “France has entered uncharted political waters after the prime minister, Manuel Valls, presented his government’s resignation amid a political crisis triggered by his maverick economy minister who called for an end to austerity policies imposed by Germany.”
Mariupol Offensive according to BBC/Kiev:
“It’s the Russians in militia uniforms.”
I’ll bet there are large decals on the front of the tanks with Putin’s picture, too.
The Russians are coming, the Russians are coming!
Poor Kiev. The war is beyond their control and the psychosis called Maidan can’t deal with the reality.
To Baboo… Don’t read them. If you don’t like a comment. Skip it. Problem solved. Why eliminate “voices” from this site? I skim/skip through comments all the time. Almost skipped yours. Isn’t that the point here?
The “hard” news is in the sitreps. Commenters often add good info. Frankly, the details are sometimes too-much-info — unless you’re in psyops or counterintel — and then I don’t really give a fuk what you think. But I wouldn’t suggest that your comments be prohibited either.
Nora — I would SO MUCH like to pick your brain about farming/gardening info. Been wanting to keep bees for ages. May be close to starting. I’ve noticed honey bees returning to my hydrangeas here at city-home — but not at country-home. And I’ve been battling with thistle like crazy. Its all over the county place. I dig it up constantly. There are NO work gloves heavy enough to protect my fingers from its needles. (No wonder they would let the stuff grow around the perimeter of a fort — Yeow!)
Now that I’ve totally changed the subject — yet again — I’m happy. As important as Novorussia and military strategy is to the overall focus of this site — and to defeating the hegemon (aka SOS) — sometimes one must tend to ones OWN garden.
Putin’s focus on non-GMO food was the thing that drew me in. Can’t hate a guy that understands and discusses the importance of bees. It’s the husbandry of mankind.

Thanks for your comments. I forgot to mention the high (99% ?) majority in favor of self-rule / autonomy at the time of the formation of modern Ukraine in 1991. This obviously did not come to pass
sasy,
Oh, that was truly great — the looks on both of their faces are priceless! And I’m wondering if anyone here can tell the rest of us how to pronounce, “Yes, we can!” in Russian… ;~)
Paul II 04:03
Thanks for your thoughts on the questions I posed. At the moment, they are purely rhetorical – we will see what happens. The worst thing, of course, is that the US-enabled destruction of Ukraine is a mere sideshow. The destruction of Russia is the main objective. To those in charge, ordinary people are of no significance.
F Scott Fitzgerald 1925:
“Let me tell you about the very rich. They are different from you and me. They possess and enjoy early, and it does something to them, makes them soft when we are hard, and cynical when we are trustful, in a way that, unless you were born rich, it is very difficult to understand. They think, deep in their hearts, that they are better than we are because we had to discover the compensations and refuges of life for ourselves. Even when they enter deep into our world or sink below us, they still think that they are better than we are. They are different.”
Julian 04:13
Agreed about the Hungarians. The tie in with Novorossia is also interesting.
Daniel Rich 07:59
I agree. It takes some effort not to turn into your enemy. So far, the Novorossians have shown great humanity particularly in dealing with their PoWs. At the end of the day, the Ukrainian troops / militia are just tools of TPTB. That does not absolve them of their responsibility, rather their exposure to extreme deliberately manipulated propaganda serves as mitigation. The oligarchs and politicians, Ukrainian, US and EU, are the ones who should be marched down the streets.
Anunnaki 01:00
The block isn’t perfect in that control is indirect, but it does show excellent strategic thinking.
Maedhros 09:48
It seems to me NATO was created by the US for at least two purposes i) to provide a large captive market for US weapons systems and ii) for Europe to serve as fall guy for the first strike. This would leave the US in a strong position to counter strike.

great blog Saker
AGS,
O boy. I can’t tell you a whole lot about bees bc ours were here when we first bought the place. We were not exactly thrilled with their location (to put it mildly) but got a beekeeper in to give us some advice and to our amazement, given the lay of our land and honeybee flight patterns plus the size of the hive, the danged barn wall really did turn out to be the very best option. Kind of ugly though, since we can’t repaint it… ;~) But they do their job and that’s good enough. If you’re really interested in beekeeping, you could contact either your local state extension (sometimes they’re good, sometimes not), or follow the grapevine and find someone local who actually keeps bees instead of just advising others.
sigh. Now as for thistle… o boy. The problem is, it has all these damned underground roots and if you’ve got more than just a seedling anywhere, you’re quite unlikely to get them all and, of course, Each. One. Will. Then. Sprout. and go a’running. So (glump) what Mr. Nora does is hand-paint the suckers with, you got it, RoundUp. It’s absolutely the only thing that will work (for now: we’re just waiting for ours to develop the resistance found elsewhere) — plus, of course, you’d have to keep a very close watch and/or deadhead each and every one of them in flower anywhere near your property. (double sigh. It’s kind of like Japanese beetles — yes you can use Milky Spore and it sure works for them what’s in the ground but does not a thing for them what flies in…). Some states have it listed as a pest but that might be a double-edged sword for you since farmers can be responsible for eradicating it… Seriously deep plowing for a couple of years might work though, if you’re into that… Otherwise, you’re stuck. Welcome to the club! ;~)
And yes to everything else you said! Absolutely, positively, yes!
Aofie: there is one good reason why information on persecution and terror against dissent in Banderastan is scarce. But I am not going to reveal until Saker post his response. Its lack is quite worrying.
Also no answer to my question about Russia not revealing her intercepts of communications between MH17 and the Kiev and Dniepropetrovsk ATC, as it is demanded form the US.
Sometimes blog owner’s bias can be really bad like over at SyrianPer (racist, inflammatory, collective responsibility, no losses on Syrian side, disregard for certain parts of Syrian population) or at MoA, where many intersting contributors were banned (some my opponents, butthey did not bother me) why blatant, bold, pathetic, disgusting hasbara trolls are nourished (guess B is a coward afraid of them and possible legal action from the jewish lobby i nGermany). Not too mention B’s hypocrisy, e.g. in regarding Poland as greedy when the US bases/troops are being advocated by the Polish authorities, while Germoany have been free loading off such bases for years. The credibility of both sites suffers significantly.
Thank Providence Saker is different.
ISIS Leader Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi Trained by Israeli Mossad, NSA Documents Reveal
The former employee at US National Security Agency (NSA), Edward Snowden, has revealed that the British and American intelligence and the Mossad worked together to create the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).
Snowden said intelligence services of three countries created a terrorist organisation that is able to attract all extremists of the world to one place, using a strategy called “the hornet’s nest”.
NSA documents refer to recent implementation of the hornet’s nest to protect the Zionist entity by creating religious and Islamic slogans.
According to documents released by Snowden, “The only solution for the protection of the Jewish state “is to create an enemy near its borders”.
Leaks revealed that ISIS leader and cleric Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi took intensive military training for a whole year in the hands of Mossad, besides courses in theology and the art of speech.

Well no wonder they have not attacked the supposed enemy of all arabs. But we already knew all this beofre snowden said anything. Now Qatar is backtracking on we didnt fund anyone. The French saying we didnt know our weapons were for the ISIS. I bet soon Turkey without whom ISIS would be dead in the water would send another floatila to their arch nemesis.. So Israel and Turkey support ISIS but Turkey dont like Israel? Something fishy here…

“Tell me about the Kiev disappearances. In detail. “
Many on this blog appear to hold a notion of entitlement.
Through a combination of naivete, self-importance, wishing to appear to be a member of the cognescenti, amongst other factors, some operational intelligence could be leaked.
Your request -In detail- would give operational intelligence on sources.
Assasination, kidnapping, rape, and torture are “normal” tools used in coups and “counter-insurgency” operations by the opponents – the intensity/scope being a function of context/need – little need when invading Grenada.

I enjoy reading MOA too — but have never posted there. Tend to skim and skip a lot. “JSorrentine” is the absolute best of the best at MOA. If he/she lurks here — I want to say “thank-you” for your honestly, clarity, wisdom and intelligence. And for courageously calling out liars. And taking no prisoners. I have learned a lot by reading your posts. Only caution is “don’t spend your oil” joisting with trolls. It’s draining. They’re not in your league. And also my gratitude to Tony Wilson at ZH. You’re the zen-master. Truth and farce all rolled up in one wonderful, outrageous package. I literally hunt through ZH articles just looking for your posts. Which have me crying with laughter. I don’t post there anymore. But I read daily. Yours is an important voice. So thank you.
Golly. Am very chatty today. Watched the video of Lavrov. He’s Russian catnip to thinking Americans. (That’s a compliment to my Russian friends who often seem to think American-Anglos are bereft of humor or nuance…). You guys have Lavrov speaking without notes or teleprompter giving another master class in diplomacy — and we have Kerry on a pink bicycle in Nantucket and Psaki hash-tagging a DOS response. “Beam me up Scotty”. Calling us out as “Anglo-Zionists” is piling-on (yes — I mean you Bok Tak). Even us-idiot-Americans can see the difference between “your” team and “our” team. Frankly, I’d rather pull thistles than listen to John Kerry or Jen Psaki. “Thistle-pulling” is my new metaphor for dealing with SOS mutants.
Onward.
Anonymous 16:18,
Thank you, and wow. Mr. Nora was particularly struck with the fact that no further work appears to have been done on the topic since 2011. That in and of itself is quite telling, isn’t it. He also noted that a) while there may well be turf battles and in-fighting among the various sectors, they’re still pretty well-aligned in terms of the benefit to their entire grouping as opposed to, you know, We The People; and b) they hardly need to issue each other detailed instructions on how to proceed: it’s just What. They. Do. The fact that this dropped from the radar so quickly and so completely has me, well, not shocked or even surprised, but it sure does confirm any lingering doubts anywhere about corporatist power in this lovely empire of ours. Wasn’t it George Carlin who said, “It’s a club, and you’re not in it”? We The People matter no more here than in the Donbass. It sure would be nice to change that.
Thank you for the correction, Seamus, but it’s a bit superfluous.
“People” have long lost any political relevance, and I would also argue that they never had it.
@Y
NATO was born to “keep America in, Russia out and Europe down”!
This is what we call “un’ interpretazione autentica”, that is an interpretation coming just from the authors of the norm(s).
The captive market for US weapons is true, but only an effect.
The first strike fall guy is a pious delusion: Russia has enough nukes to first-strike Europe AND America, together, many times over.
@AlienTech
The only objective of the devil is the destruction of men and the Creation, there’s nothing else to understand.
Do not seek for any rationale, anything human, because there’s nothing human left there.
If you don’t think that those people are nothing else than arconts (very few) and playthings (most of them) of the devil, then, continue safely wondering….
You’ll wonder eternally about a reasonable (i.e. human) cause for doing evil and killing for the pure pleasure of them.
Power, control, material well-being are just derivative, a facade, of that pleasure, because they already enjoy power, control and material riches.
Even the desire to perpetuate them cannot boast anything rational, because naked they came in this world and naked they will depart from it.
They are just desperate, like all the demons, so that the pleasure to inflict human suffering is the only thing which gives them the delusion to live.
You don’t need sophisticated studies and fractal math to understand that, if you give the monopoly to create “money” and credit out of any legitimate economic process to a selected few, those same selected few will end up in control of everything!
Not only finance and economy, but also education, information, public discourse and every social dialectic.
Now you know where those arconts are.
Only Christ and Christians (real Christians, not the billions of wanna-be, but those who DO as Christians do) are out of that control, and it’s the reason why He and they annoy them so much.
They are not of this world.
They are out of control!
All the rest, all the good people, all the real heroes, Werewolves included, who rely on human intellect and vanity, will be overcome and synthesized by the ruler of this world, no matter how great their strenght and their good will.

It is fascinating how you keep spreading the idea that Ukraine is dominated by a fascist or even national-socialist regime. You are in front of a country with a Jewish extremist president, Zionists in every key position of government and media that are entirely in Jewish tribalists hands. But in your laughable narrative, these would be the traits of a ‘nazi’ state. Fine. I’m beginning to realize that there is no escape to the Jewish racists vision of the world. You are saturated by it. You are on the right side but for the wrong reasons.
@Vehme: actually, Zionism and Nazism are like twins, separated after birth, but still from the same womb: European 19th century secular nationalism. So the contradiction is only apparent. Sure, the Nazis hated the Jews, but the Trotskists hated Stalin, but they were all Marxists. Anyway, there are indeed plenty of Jews in command in Nazi Ukraine as there are plenty of Jews in command of Nazi Israel, that hardly means that the Ukraine and Israel are not Nazi states. Nazism and Fascism in general take many forms, but they are all rooted in the same nationalistic root. Brecht was right – Der Schoß ist fruchtbar noch, aus dem dies kroch.
You are on the right side for you (the wrong one) for the right reasons (your racism). With your hostility to Jews you are really much closer to Netanyahu than to an internationalist like Putin.
Cheers,
The Saker

I visited your ‘House’ and found your work very interesting.
The Russian Soul, Et Tu Putin, and of course, the calling card Vampires, Zombies and Werewolves, and your back and forth with Where-wolf.
As I pursue an education in things Russian (Saker has been very helpful with his guidance), I come full circle to items I research for my own novels which run threads of biblical matters, particularly, the fight with demons, Michael the archangel, Truth versus Power.
Your thoughts are quite appropriate for the dynamics both on the Vineyard and out in the world we observe as subject matter.
There is a key word you use that I’d like to hear you expand. “Do”. Christians do, werewolves do.
This is a litmus test you seem to express.
I interpret that as not just believe, receive, or be. But an imperative to act.
I’d like your full or deeper expression of that word ‘Do’.
Thanks.
RE: Operation Hornets Nest: Alleged Snowden document says US/UK/Israel are behind ISIS
Strange way to put out some disinfo. We already know the Saudi’s started it to get rid of Qatar and their brotherhood goons in Syria. The US took over the op and Israel provides substantial support to the group. There is no doubt that the chain of command is in fact from Al Ciada.
The only change now is, Qatar has no control over the group and it looks like the Saudi’s also have lost control over it. Also no matter who is controlling it, without Turkey, IS is dead.. So Turkey and Israel are working together as well no matter what is shown in public. And maybe they thought since everyone already knew maybe give snowden some credibility..
