Boris Johnson gives the Russians a case of hysterical laughing
When I first heard that the ex-Mayor of London Boris Johnson had won an anti-Erdogan insult competition I was not too interested. But when I saw that this was reported on the hyper-official “Weekly News with Dmitri Kilesev” I was quite amazed. But when Kiselev then visually showed the original English language limerik I was amazed. Kiselev was careful to specify that he was acting according to the letter of the regulations of the Roscomnadzor, the Russian media regulatory agency he then showed the original English text full screen.
But then Kiselev went even further. He then quoted the (superb!) translation of the limerik by the Russian website Inosmi:
Один озабоченный турок
Все время дрочил свой окурок,
Пока ранней весной
Не слюбился с козой
Без всяких прелюдий придурок
At that point I was speechless.
You have to realize that the Russian media is much, much more prudish than the western media and that this kind of language is quite unthinkable, especially on the hyper-official, quasi state run, Russia 1 state channel, and especially on the most “official” of all news shows – the Sunday evening Weekly News with Dmitri Kilesev.
And then came the crowning moment. Kiselev ended up by suggesting that the “goat” in the limerik could possibly be a thinly veiled reference at Angela Merkel.
WOW. Just WOW!
It is one thing to have Maria Zakharova dance at a very serious diplomatic meeting, but to have one head of state called a “wanker” and another a “goat” on a mostly very stuck-up and constipated looking Russian TV that I have to wonder what this indicates. Not that I don’t totally approve of it. Neither Erdogan nor Merkel deserve any respect, and neither do the fools who voted for them or support then today. But still, “wanker” and “goat”?
Maybe it is a sign of a further “Putinization” of the Russian society. Putin has been known to throw in some rather slangy, if not outright crude, words or two in his otherwise very polished language. That kind of “people talk” also contributed to his popularity.
But still. WOW.
We leave in amazing and, at times, even funny times.
The Saker
That is very funny. But also remember it is merely reporting on what was said by a British politician (in detail,I admit). It isn’t being said by a Russian, as Russian opinion (though of course we all know it is at “the least” Russia’s opinion of Erdagon). I’ve also heard from many Russians that cussing is very common in Russian. Though maybe not on state television programs. Which reminds me of a lot of “memes” I’ve seem about how those that cuss have better mental health and less stress. Which I can attest to the stress part, lol.
IMO would have been better w/o those stupid platform shoes.
Good job anyway, she’s a doll with some brains.
I saw that a couple of days ago on a mainstream site here in US. I guess the language has to suit the times. In the light of the wholesale murder and plunder that causes it, I think it well justified, and the Russian TV station correctly took the pulse of the nation.
– MEE-E-E!
– I love it when you talk dirrty to me, babe :P
Hi Saker, what a cute article…
Maybe it’s the influence of Donald Trump? He uses crude language that the media routinely expected him to atone for, yet Trump refused and grew ever more popular with each inappropriate insult — be it directed against Megyn Kelly, John McCain, Jeb Bush, or even Ted Cruz’s wife.
To be clear, the “poem” is the crudest type of doggerel; I am sure Boris could do far better – indeed, I suspect that when at school he was capable of writing Latin and Greek verse.
But the crudity is of the essence. The whole point is that Erdogan decreed that no one was to criticize him, and then the German government unaccountably supported this position and declared that it was illegal to say anything nasty about the Sultan.
Boris’ reaction is typical: he behaves exactly like a very naughty, not very well educated schoolboy. This is why he is so hugely popular in Britain. (Of course people are aware that he is a clever, well-educated man with liberal values, but his sense of humour makes the difference between him and “tight-arses” like Cameron and Osborne).
The primitive and uneducated Erdogan was born in the slum of Istanbul and he made his way up by deceit and backstabbings something that has served him well but also earned him very few friends.
and even less female acquaintances in the strict Turkish Sunni-Muslim environment, so his old habit of molesting goats to “let off some steam” is probably something that has continued unabated to this day. He probably know as much about woman as the young, angry and indoctrinated migrant jihadists and rapefugees from incompatible and backward cultures he keep sending to the EU, so his disciple “jihad-Merkel” should be quite safe in that regard…
These Turks has absolutely no respect for animal rights.
A year ago in Zagreb, Croatia, a well known croatian band held a concert which included a presentation of a statue of Angela. The text is in connection with the statue, I won’t translate it here.
This is how many of us think about Angela:

These two very interesting news do deserve to be shown together! we had such a good time at the Moveable Feast Cafe last week commenting on Maria’s wonderful performance, and now Boris Johnson makes us such a joy with his literature skills. Strange times like these need to be spiced by some outstanding humor. Thank you Saker!
anyway, Maria Zakharova is AMAZING… in any sense… definitely I’m in love.
I used to dislike Johnson, but his inner America keeps creeping out.
