Activists of the Russian community of Toronto, Montreal, and other North American cities will protest against the blanket ban on the Russian National Team of Paralympic athletes from participation in the Rio 2016 Olympics. The decision to ban the athletes demonstrates an absolute disregard for the legal right of people to the presumption of innocence. We cannot allow such blatant attacks on our morals, ethics, and democratic freedoms. Unfortunately, we are witnessing increasing politicization of sports and major sporting events on the planet.
No matter how eloquently officials of the International Paralympic Committee attempt to justify and explain their decision to ban the Russian Paralympians, people around the world understand the real politicization and partisanship behind this unprecedented action. Such restrictions on the participation of the entire team in the Olympic Games cannot disguise the growing Russophobia. We have no doubt that such blatant acts of injustice aim at the denigration and humiliation of Russia through the slandering of her outstanding athletes.
It is our moral duty to our historical homeland to make public our disagreement with this policy of hatred, enmity, and injustice by international sports committees. We are driven by compassion and solidarity with the Russian Paralympic athletes who’ve spent years preparing, overcoming their physical disabilities to earn the right to participate in the greatest international sporting event. They were deprived of their rights with the cruel and inconsiderate decision and without legitimate reasons, other than allegations and insinuations. This is direct and senseless discrimination on a national basis, which we, the citizens of democratic countries, cannot and should not accept as the norm.
On 28 Aug 2016, the United Russian Community of Canada will hold a mass protest in several cities of Canada against the decision of the International Paralympic Committee. We encourage everyone to please come out and join us in voicing support of our Paralympians. They were hit the hardest. Let’s show them our support and solidarity! Please help spread the word about our campaign across the world. People throughout the world should know that we in Canada feel a special responsibility for the unfair and biased report issued by the World Anti-Doping Agency, which initiated and provided the basis for the infamous decision by the IPC.

For a generally-tolerant, multicultural, and politically-correct nation, hatred of Russia and Putin is not only acceptable and encouraged in Canada, it is the only socially-acceptable attitude toward Russia.
The three million Ukrainian descended people in Canada together with the millions of others and their Polish cousins in USA and UK are becoming like the AIPAC lobby- a direct and powerful geopolitical influence on Anglo foreign policy. 30000 poles live in my city in UK alone. They are without fail, pro American to the core and call on nato to attack Russia.
“a generally-tolerant, multicultural, and politically-correct nation”.
Are you suggesting these are good qualities, in reality?
Now this is a diaspora with principles and heart and smarts. The defamatory attacks on Russia and Russians are not over yet.
Great idea! If Vancouver’s on the list, I’ll be there. IMHO, the only way we stand up to the oligarchs running this is to show that the people will amass against them and insist on a course correction from Canada’s govt. My first impression is that this new govt will not provide shelter to the oligarchs, from the people, in the same way that the previous one did. But I also don’t think that the new govt will initiate this corrective action either (might be too politically risky for them). It has to come from the people. Put enough pressure on our new politicians, who did not receive the support of the Ukrainian Congress anyway!!
Where and when is the Vancouver demo?
I want to know too!!
Vancouver is in!
In my zeal to be ‘part of the solution’ I promised to attend without first confirming that I actually can attend. And I can’t. Which I regret because I would love to show support for this cause and meet the people who are organising this. Anyway, I’ll send my moral support from a physical distance.
We Canadians have been abject vassals of the USA since the world was made – certainly since MY 87+ years of life began. When I worked in Iran, in the mid-70s, I was asked – politely – whether our “leader” did not take his/her orders from Washington. I was a little taken aback, but not much, since I had learned that young Iranians were far more tuned in to world affairs than we smug westerners had thought. I guess I smiled – a little – and had to answer in the affirmative. In effect, I guess I told them that we – as Russia has today – have our “Atlanticists”, powerful interests who do not think twice about selling out their country. As Canadian author James Minifie has said: We are: “Drawers of water and hewers of wood”.
And so you have a CANADIAN lawyer as front-man in america’s contrived dirty work prior to the Olympics. Personally, I do not believe the Russians would be so stupid as to try such a stunt; only a nation where a 9-11 is possible.
“We Canadians have been abject vassals of the USA since the world was made”
??? Eh! Nous avons _brûlé_ la Maison Blanche! And PM Chrétien didn’t follow Bush into the Iraq invasion.
This might be dreaming/wishful thinking on my part. But anyway.
Could we Canadians start demanding that our National Defence Ministry create a commission or something to investigate the Maidan revolution in Ukraine? Given that this event started the “Russian aggression” fervour and is being used as fuel to start a military conflict with Russia — who Canada shares a border with (kind of significant). Seems like it’s in the interests of Canada’s national defence to get the facts straight about Ukraine.
You don’t think our government doesn’t already know the truth? The Maidan protestors and shooters hid in the Canadian embassy in Kiev.
I agree, I think the govt knows exactly what happened. But the majority of Canadians only know what the MSM has told them. So is there some way, some action, that citizens can take now, which will coax some politically correct version of the truth out of our leaders? To start to correct the misperceptions held by the majority?
While I’m dreaming.
Another way we could approach this is to let our govt reps know that we don’t feel safe with the current level of tension between Canada and Russia, militarily. We could ask for some kind of joint session between the two militaries, which is broadcast, that would show Canadians that the two sides are willing to work together cooperatively. Or something.
Better set the social justice warriors on Obama. Imagine a Negro depriving Slavs equal rights under law. The Oligarchy must be howling with laughter.
what we have to ask ourselves first is, where did this witch hunt originate from, answer, the same place that the cold war started from, we know its about enhancing the abilities of the athletes, okay so Russia is using drugs, but they are not the only ones, and they are not the worst, I seem to recall that an exceptional athlete from a very exceptional country, won the Tour De France about half a dozen times on drugs, and only managed to disgrace the Event and not himself, and I do not Recall the French banning that country from any future event, when a country uses another country as a political target it usually means that they are up to no good, so if you are not using drugs, how can you get the upper hand in sports over everyone else, besides a blood transfusion or gender bending, well I seem to recall some interviews with some whistle blowing super soldiers and the programme’s that they went through, and one of the guy’s that was interviewed said that many like himself went through certain procedure’s virtually from birth, that put them through a series of genetic manipulation and some gene splicing was done from the womb, and that he himself could swim underwater further and longer than anyone else, because he had added dolphin genes, and that some others had genes of other animals that gave them more speed, this man who was doing a lot of talking said also a MK ULTRA type was the final programme but many of them had psychological problems later on, and said that two sportsmen that he knew of were experiencing those problem at the present time, and there is one thing that I am sure of and that is that a certain exceptional country would not hesitate to try doing something along these lines.
I went to the Toronto demo today. There was a pretty good turnout – about 50 people. Lots of Russian flags; chants of “sports not politics” and “let Russia play” etc. Some passers by were supportive including drivers beeping their horns.
These Russian expats were a friendly lot, especially one kind lady who gave me her St. George ribbon.

Since it’s birth, Canasta has become increasingly more of a “monkey see, monkey do” creature in the armpit of the USA. Even in Iran, in the mid 70s, my (oil industry) trainees asked me about this and I freely admitted that it was true.
