Some of you have emailed me to ask about “Carpenter” and how he (yes, he is a “he”) can be helped (he has not found any worth in many months, is is risking losing his home and he has no savings at all). I emailed him and here is what I can share with you: “Carpenter” is actually both a framing carpenter and a mason. He has done stonework and
This was just sent to me by “pq” – who send me the “submarine in the desert” I posted earlier today. Great stuff, no? (thanks pq!!!!) Oh boy, when I posted my recent exchange with “Carpenter” along with my thoughts about the “other West” and the danger of war I had no idea that I would trigger such a deluge of comments and private email. In less than 24 hours I got well over 100 emails, often long and heartfelt ones too. First, and this really saddens me a lot, believe me, but I have to
I have said that many times on this blog and I will say that today: there is “another West” which we, all those who oppose the Empire, should never forget. This is a West which you will never *ever* see in the corporate media and it is formed a innumerable individuals who don’t go into politics, don’t organize demonstrations and who simply live a life of spiritual freedom, away from
I have to say that I personally don’t recall anything quite like what happened today in Munich. For one thing, I detected a tone in Lavrov’s words which I had not felt so strongly before. Of course, Lavrov was calm, composed and polite. But this time I also felt an immense sense of disgust on his part for the audience he was addressing and for what these so-called ‘leaders’ had
by Alexander Mercouris Part one (On 6th February 2015) They have apparently continued for 5 hours and are still not finished though it seems some sort of document is being prepared for tomorrow. Three comments: 1. If negotiations go on for 5 hours that does not suggest a smooth and conflict free discussion. 2. One of the most interesting things about the Moscow talks is that they mainly

Russia media reports that after 5 hours of negotiations the talks are over, that they were “constructive” and that results will be finalized and announced on Sunday. So nothing concrete yet. Still no news from Moscow, so I decided to quickly address a frequent misconception: US weapon deliveries and their effectiveness. US weapons deliveries to the junta US political culture and propaganda has deeply ingrained in the minds of those exposed to the corporate media the notion that weapons or technologies win wars. This is not so. Or, not really so. Yes, when the difference in technologies is very big
Couple of things: The evacuation of civilians basically failed. First, the buses got stuck and had to wait due to nearby mortar shelling, then only 3 buses (out of 20) were filled with refugees, nobody else wanted to leave and, considering the risks, I don’t blame them. This is a terrible thing to say, but not boarding these buses today was the prudent thing to do (today, the junta forces

The Novorussian and the junta have agreed to a cease-fire to allow the civilian population to leave Debaltsevo. In theory, each civilian will get to chose whether he/she wants to be evacuated to Novorussia or to the Nazi-occupied Ukraine. The convoy of refugees will be escorted by senior OSCE officials. Both sides to the conflict have pledged not to open fire during the time needed for this operation. Now consider

So Kerry and Nuland are in Kiev, and tomorrow Merkel and Hollande will be in Moscow. This is probably the strongest evidence that the Debaltsevo cauldron is closed and the surrounded junta forces desperate and defeated (one Russian military analyst stated in an interview that he believes that about half of all the truly combat capable junta forces are in the Debaltsevo cauldron – in other words, the junta army

This time this sure looks official: the Russian TV channel REN-TV has announced that the Debaltsevo cauldron has been finally closed, just north of the city of Debaltsevo itself and not further north up the highway where this had been expected. The same reports say that the DNR and LNR forces met, so we are not talking about holding the highway under direct artillery fire anymore, but about Novorussian forces
