In the past, some major social discontent headed by wise leaders led to enduring movements and finally to the establishment of religions, instead of political parties. Leaders, instead of being seen for their practical, down-to-earth wisdom, were seen as having divine power and were then consecrated as prophets or saints. In other words: the material situation that gave origin to past social discontent was overlooked by the idealistic religions established later on.
Under the guidance of ‘scholars’, these new religions would not necessarily preserve the original ideas (‘thoughts’) that emanated from the previous movements, though… Thus, the said today’s ‘religious scholars’ critical thought’ is a huge advance from the ‘thought’ that gave origin to the religions in the first instance. This ‘critical thought’ was the ‘thought’ dominated by those forces that ultimately controlled the old ‘scholars’: by neutralizing them, they shaped submissive societies, societies that inertly accepted their rule.
In other words: if a religion adopts ‘critical thought’, it becomes an important tool for the people to liberate themselves from exploitation. This is what happened to the ‘theology of liberation’ in Latin America. Unfortunately, the assassination of clerics and the repression of the people curtailed its potential. If ‘critical thought’ is a characteristic of Shia Islam, certainly this religion has the potential to liberate the people from oppression, being, thus, a target of those who intend to dominate and exploit.
This ties in well with the “actively aiding & abetting” theme of S.A.’s activities by the usual arms peddler scum.

TEHRAN (Tasnim) – Britain has come under renewed pressure to stop arms sales to Saudi Arabia after the UN secretary general accused the Saudis of indiscriminate bombing in Yemen and said countries such as the UK had a duty to stop the flow of weapons to Riyadh-led forces.
“Yemen is in flames and coalition airstrikes in particular continue to strike schools, hospitals, mosques and civilian infrastructure,” Speaking in London, Ban Ki-moon said on Friday.
He claimed that Yemen “was awash with weapons”, adding, “We need states that are party to [the] arms trade treaty to set an example in fulfilling one of the treaty’s main purposes – controlling arms flows to actors that may use them in ways that breach international humanitarian law.”
