Rebels in eastern Libya have said they will not negotiate unless Col Muammar Gaddafi quits and goes into exile. The National Libyan Council in the city of Benghazi also called for foreign intervention to stop government air strikes on the rebels. The council is led by former Libyan Interior Minister Mustafa Abdel-Jalil, who defected last month.
Oh, and guess what? Mr. Mustafa Abdel-Jalil also declares that he as proof that Gaddafi ‘personally’ gave the order for the bombing of Pan Am 103 over Lockerbie. Interesting statement considering that neither Gaddafi personally nor Libya did the Pan Am 103 bombing…
And just to make absolutely sure that the Imperial leaders would correctly appreciate his capabilities, he also declared that “responsibility for the infection of 400 children with HIV lay totally with Muammar al-Gaddafi’s regime“. I guess pretty soon will we hear that the Gaddafi regime did 9-11 with OBL and Gaddafi also tried to kill the Pope.
He guy defected LAST MONTH and now he is already the ‘Leader of the National Libyan Council’.
Am I the only one who thinks that this reeks to high heaven?! Is there not something very, very wrong with this picture?!
Speaking of pictures, I like to compare these two:
Then:
Now:
As you brought the issue, what about Pan Am flight 103? Didn’t Kaddafi admit his guilty, and paid compensations to the victims’ families and handed the suspects to an international court?
@Carlo:As you brought the issue
oops, I did, didn’t I :-(
I am about to begin work, so I will make it hyper-short (sorry).
There is evidence that the entire plot was sub-contracted to a group of hired Syrians. As to who did that, there are two version:
a) Iran as an act of revenge for the downing of the Iranian Airbus by the US Navy
b) Israel as a false flag to make it look like Iran did it
Since Israel played a role in pinning the blame on Libya, I am personally leaning towards the hypothesis of an act of revenge by Iran. If so, that would, at least to my admittedly limited and imperfect knowledge, be the last terrorist act committed by Iran.
Gotta run now. TTYL!
Cheers,
Thanks for the reply. Now I ask you something else (you may answer later, I am leaving home for work right now also, so for me it’s the same if you reply in 8 hours): if Iran did it, why didn’t the US and Israel take the chance to accuse this country of one of the few terrorist acts it committed? Why blame on Lybia?
@Carlo: I did not say that Iran did it. Only that I think that the most likely explanation is that they did it. Now, why pin it on Libya? Easy!
Gadaffi was a pain for the USA and it was easy to use Pan Am 103 to put pressure on him, just like the bombed him for the disco in Germany. Iran is a far tougher country to take on.
Remember how Reagan after getting his Marines killed in Lebanon went and invaded Grenada? Same kind of “logic” at work here.
ttyl!
If you are a US toad and leader of a foreign country in politically charged area of the world, you are in a very precarious position, because if the palace guard changes in the US, powerful forces may decide they want a different toad.- hey our toad anyway, right? If the pragmatists in the US lose out to the Likudniks, then Saddam paying some money to the widows of the suicide bombers could trigger a terrible resolve for toad change. There is no loyalty extending from one US regime to the next. You would have to be nuts if you were a foreign leader and counted on any sort or continuity in US support.
So yes maybe there is something wrong with this picture but so what can we please get our priorities straight and help the Libyans get rid of Moammar Qadhafi first.
