Even if the social and economic situation is much more precarious than in 2000, when comparing both scenarios the victory of GW Bush wasn’t vehemently contested on the streets, when Gore got a 1-2% advantage in total votes and lost Florida for a few hundred votes. I don’t expect Trump supporters to contest that now after losing the popular vote.
