The Internet is abuzz with articles claiming that the USA is preparing to nuke Russia. Apparently, this all began with an article in the World Socialist Website entitled “US officials consider nuclear strikes against Russia“. This article was then picked up by Global Research which “upgraded” the title to “Military Madness: US Officials Consider Nuclear Strikes against Russia“. After that everybody else picked up the panic-inducing canard and ran with it.
This is all nonsense.
Here is what is really going on.
This all really began with the Associated Press posting a story about how the “US might deploy missiles in Europe to counter Russia“. Notice that this original story speaks of “countering” not “striking”. If you read the story, you will see that it is all really simple: some circles in the USA are accusing Russia of deploying intermediate range missiles in Europe in violation of the INF treaty. When the Pentagon brass was asked about what the US could do about it they came up with a 100% predictable answer: we will deploy our own missiles. That’s it.
The first question is whether Russia did anything to violate the INF treaty. An excellent article in the National Interest entitled “Is Russia violating the INF treaty” explains it all: the entire case is based on nothing. Well, almost nothing. Here is what caused all this panic:
1) Russia did fire some ICBMs (long range intercontinental missiles) at a shorter range a couple of times which would put their trajectory under the maximum limit of the INF. But since nobody disputes that these missiles are ICBMs, this really means absolutely nothing.
2) There are suspicions that Russia might develop intermediate-range ground based cruise missile either based on the Iskander missile or on the Granat. But since there is zero proof of that having occurred, these suspicions also mean nothing.
What is really happening is very simple: since the USA is going ahead with its crazy plans to develop an anti-missile “shield” in Europe, Russia responded by *threatening* to deploy (according to some sources, already deploying) its Iskanders in Kaliningrad and along its western borders. Iskanders are very capable missile which scare the hell out of NATO because they would be perfect to strike forward deployed NATO command centers and forces. The obvious solution for NATO would be NOT to deploy its command centers of forces so far the the East. Even better, scraping the idiotic missile-defense shield would completely solve this problem. But since NATO has to terrify the Europeans by a non-existing Russian “threat”, NATO cannot do that: even though no such threat exists, the NATO boys need to show their immense courage and determination by doing all sorts of silly and useless things. Like forward deploying.
As a result of the “brilliant” strategy, NATO now has a bullseye painted on its fancy anti-missile facilities and forward deployed assets. And NATO don’t like that one bit. So they came up with yet another silly but macho statement about “we will deploy our own intermediate range missiles to threaten the Russian intermediate range missiles”. Minor detail: NATO command centers and forward deployed forces are either fixed or very easy to detect. Russian Iskanders are road mobile and basically undetectable. But nevermind that, as long as the general public get a sense of 1) fear and b) NATO’s macho courage – all is well, right?
So, let recap: NATO is *considering* deploying missile which would be deployed to *respond* to a *possible* (future) violation by Russia of the INF treats. “Military madness”? Hell no! Just a garden variety political grandstanding, that’s all. If the article in the World Socialist Website was misleading, then the “upgraded” title of Global Research is outright irresponsible. Nobody in the USA is really considering using nuclear weapons against missiles on the Russian territory because everybody knows that this would guarantee a devastating response on the territory of the continental USA. Of course, if by the verb “considering” we mean “develop the capability to” then both sides have considered nuking each other since the end of WWII. But these articles make it sound like the USA has suddenly decided to prepare for a nuclear attack on Russia, and that is utter nonsense.
Please also note that this entire debate around the INF has nothing to do with the Ukraine. This is just a remake of the “Pershing/GLCM vs SS-20” crisis of the 1980s. Been there, done that. Nothing new here.
The USA has no desire to engage in a nuclear war with Russia. The real US strategy is very different, if no less dangerous: what he USA are doing is creating a crisis out of nothing by creating tensions on all levels, from the financial sector, to sports, to the completely artificial INF issue. From the US point of view, the current attempts at subverting the FIFA and at subverting the INF Treaty are on the same conceptual level: give them Russkies hell on all levels. And *of course* that this is dangerous, bordering on the reckless, really. It is also self-defeating (you can bet that with the latest US ‘victory’ against Blatter just after he was re-elected the anti-US hatred in the world surged by another X number of points). Yes, the Empire is in a panic mode, acting stupidly and trying to “make the Russians blink” even though in the Russian culture threats and grandstanding are always interpreted as a sign of weakness.
One more thing: the Russians consider the areas of deployment of the Iskanders a state secret. In other words, they will not reveal where these missiles are deployed or what they target (remember, Russians don’t believe in threats). At the most, they will make sure that NATO knows about it, in general terms, if needed. But don’t expect threats coming out of Moscow.
Finally, the really interesting question is whether the Russians will deploy a new generation of intermediate range missiles. If yes, they will announce it and officially withdraw from the INF. My sense is that they might. The Russians are getting very, very fed up with the US/NATO/EU’s total lack of cooperation, general bad will and constant petty provocations. There is a special disgust for central European prostitutes (Poland, Romania). The Kremlin might figure a simply military reality: since Russia has no offensive plans to attack Europe, US intermediate range missiles would really serve no purpose in Europe while the local population might begin to freak out, seeing US nuclear missiles arrive in vast numbers. In contrast, since Russia is in a purely defensive posture, having intermediate range missiles might be very useful to protect against a possible NATO attack. Finally, there is the geographical factor: if Russian intermediate range missile strike in Europe, this would not be an attack on the US mainland. But if US intermediate range missiles strike in Russia, that would be an attack on the Russian mainland. So who do you think will have stronger reservation before pressing the button?
Of course, I hope that intermediate range missiles do not get deployed. The very last thing the world needs right now is yet another source of tensions and fear. And, as I have written many times here, while the USA wants as high tensions as possible (short of actual war), Russia desperately needs the lowest tensions possible. So I think that the Russians will secretly work on being ready to deploy intermediate range missiles at very short notice, but that they will try very hard to avoid a situation were this might be needed.
Anyway, the next time you come across a panic-inducing headline à la “US about to nuke Russia” take a deep breath, don’t jump to conclusions and give yourself time to find out if such hyperbole is warranted or not.
Cheers,
The Saker
Hm, “World Socialist Website” … a bunch of Trotskyites (from where all the US Neocons-Ziocons hail). And one would have expected that it all ended with an icepick in Mexico City in 1940…
In my experience, from reading the site for years, it is neither neocon nor zionist, but one of the better news and analysis sites.

Leon Trotsky and the defense of historical truth
By David North
20 March 2012
Trotsky was a well-documented american agent and bankers’ prostitute. Whoever has him as some sort of “hero”, is definitely a traitor and a clear servant of the empire.
…and far worse than J.V.STALIN from his dealings with NYC /Germans bankers to his end in Mexico….
@ T2015
Yes. People do not know history.
Your character assassination is typical of the historical understanding of a Stalinist. The Vietnamese Stalinists have an American lead and influenced
trotskyist anti war movement to thank for their survival.( committees to bring the troops home now and mass demonstrations in Washinton DC—many of these demonstrations were especially around “elections:”… A single issue antiwar movement, by the way, that did not lead a popular movement into the Democratic party like what happened to the worker’s protest in Wisconsin–thanks to the sell outs in the American labor movement and the neoliberal left.
I suppose you think Mozgovoi was a Trotskyist? please. The ruling class understands the need to have international contacts ( i.e. assets ) in all aspects of life ( politics, arts, universities, banks, military) to promote their interests. This means that Trotsky was merely born too early. On the contrary, we need more “Trotskyists” in the world but they had better watch their back thanks to the likes of your type of thinking.
regarding class traitors and fuzzy political understanding of the class struggle in politics:
check out Counterpunch’s article of 6/6/15 on Bernie Sanders.
No. Counterpunch is a CIA disinfo outlet.
Unfortunately, in a world awash in complex and confusing events, not to mention deliberate falsehoods being floated by many parties, it is impossible to have, as a leftist, an unerring editorial policy, albeit in the broader sense we should always know which way to point the ship, so to speak.
What we do need in this informational mess is to assume a less rigid position than I see represented here, a “syncretic position,” and look at the overall value of a particular piece of information and make a judgment “on balance”, provided the negative is not overwhelmingly toxic. It’s more an art than a science. The challenge for editors is to look at a subject, find the credible sources and expressions for that subject, and then run it as timely as possible.
The wsws.org is a Trot organization, they make no mystery of it, they insert a plug for the SEP, their tiny party every chance they get, and why not? It’s to be expected. They are using their site. (Not that property is sacred, I hardly believe that as a lifelong leftist.)
Personally I have no use for Trotskyism and their neurotic trajectory. Historically, the Trots seem to have contributed more turncoats to the Western political cesspool than any other political current, especially to the filthy neocon pool, a particularly virulent strain of ideological cancer, and their tendency to deride and insult other leftist positions is also well established. BUT, yes, sadly there is a big BUT here, it so happens that sometimes, probably more often than not, wsws.org publishes impeccable analyses of the Western imperialist enemy (they also hysterically and myopically attack China and Russia’s leadership, etc., which are certainly not flawless, but that’s part of their petty dogmatic temperament.) In such a situation we must look for the gems in the information package they provide and expunge the crap that may have been reflexively inserted. Know the animal, know the behavior, and use the good in it for the advancement of the cause. What is the cause? Right now to block an imperialist war of any kind—large or small against Russia or China, along with any other imperialist wars bent on destroying weaker nations via the usual diabolical mix of hybrid war developed so expertly by Washington and its accomplices. Further down the road, revolution to establish a completely anti-capitalist/anti-imperialist world system, and an industrial system imbued with an ecological morality that respects and pro-actively protects nature. (All of this may be too late by now, considering what’s happening globally.)
Incidentally, while on this general topic of insults deserved and not deserved, what with this indiscriminate “Jew bashing”? Granted, a lot of the world financial and media circles are permeated with more than their share of Jews, not to mention this new raging infection of utterly despicable oligarchic rightwing Jews in Ukraine commanding private Nazi (!) armies and so forth, the reasons for which would take us far afield here in terms of history and sociology, etc., but the way you talk here about that issue is alarmingly inflammatory and not only that, unjust and tactically stupid. Jews do constitute a huge presence—the dominant presence— in the rotten and utterly criminal neocon battalion, a group of people that as a whole should richly deserve a Nuremberg tribunal set up especially for their crimes. BUT, again here’s the world of contradictions and imperfections, Jews also often constitute some of the bravest, most indefatigable, and most determined enemies of injustice, war and empire. In fact, the displacement of many Jews toward the right is in part a product of Israel’s existence and its own criminal drift to the right and utterly unprincipled association with the empire of chaos, not to mention Israel was born with its own original sin: the forcible, at gunpoint theft of Arab lands, and ensuing policies of expropriation and savage repression. Still, today many of the most visible voices against the empire are Jewish. Just take as two visible examples in the Western media universe Glenn Greenwald and Seymour Hersch. Their contributions are and have been enormous. I would also mention the obvious Noam Chomsky, but sometimes Chomsky joins the left anti-communist brigade and there my gratitude and admiration stop. In recent history, in WW2, Jews also played an important role, disproportionate to their population size (typical for them). The most effective and one of the bravest anti-Nazi spy networks was set up, managed and staffed by Jews, the legendary Red Orchestra. Just Google Leopold Trepper and Die Rote Kapelle, the name given by the Gestapo to an anti-Nazi resistance movement in Berlin, as well as to Soviet espionage rings operating in German-occupied Europe and Switzerland during World War II.
But, again, speaking of Jews, while some are toxic as hell, there’re many others who play a frontline role in battling contemporary systemic crimes. Bottom line is that we can’t build a new world or a healthy nation, whether in Russia or the US or anywhere else based on some of the most perfervid age-old prejudices. Broad-brush antisemitism exists, and it cannot be accepted. What we must fight is Zionism. To see it crop up in these pages unchallenged is a disservice to the cause of justice and it degrades our own moral standing.
Where the devil did you get that? Please furnish an example. Granted, NOT everything they publish is that well advised, and obviously, given the volume of stuff they process they seem to be careless editors, but still to say they are disinfo is a bit extreme. By that standard we can say his site is is disinfo, too, and black is white and so on. Where is your criteria? Example, please. Just one.
I never knew the guy — he died 7 years before I was born, and I doubt it’s possible at this point to find out what he was about without spending years doing research of original documents, including becoming fluent in Russia. What I see is some people saying he was beneficial and others saying he was monster.
As far as WSWS and SEP, what I’ve seen from them is good stuff — good ideas and accurate news on the whole, and I’m not about to try to put them into some kinds of Manichean category. I’m fed up with extremism and binary, black or white rhetoric or thinking, and straw men from any quarter. A plague on all the rigid ideologies.
fair comment blue.
@ FarAwayObserver — the supposed Trotsky quote you posted is a crazy fake, written to discredit him (surely you know that?) which I will not perpetuate by publishing.
Johan, World Socialist Web has noting in common with neocons or Zionists. Further they often make quite incisive analysis of the background principles that are apt to go unnoticed.
This story was unfortunate.
@ Penelope
To the letter: I did not say the site was neocon or Zionist, but Trotskyite. And that all the well-known US Neocons-Ziocons are “former” Trotskyite vermin (hail from there).
BTW, concerning Stalin and Lev Davidovich Bronstein (Jew “Trotsky”), there was an interesting article on Fort Russ (republished on Russia Insider) titled “Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin: A Stalin for the 21st Century”, http://fortruss.blogspot.ru/2015/05/vladimir-vladimirovich-putin-stalin-for.html . Quite interesting, though open to discussion.
I don’t know who they root for, but they certainly and certifiably are a disinfo site. At least over the last five years or so since I know them.
And one would have expected that it all ended with an icepick in Mexico City in 1940…
One would. But the “beast” has many lives & as well spawns lots of little beasts e.g. LGBT, homo-paedophilia support group, NAMBLA,Green,Animal Rights, libturds, socialist left, southern poverty center, NACCP ect..ect..
EUSSR with well known homopaedophiles, Cohen Bendit, M. Barosso ect..ect..
You seem to be poisoning the well…
Saker,
I’m relieved that US nukes and the military in general are in sane hands, acting pursuant to US interests.
Well, I am not sure that US nukes are in what I would call “sane” hands, but would say that there are probably/hopefully enough sane minds to prevail over the crazies.
Expanding on this, could you post your thoughts on the Maj Gen Michael Carey debacle in Moscow, Saker? A full internal USAF investigation is linked on his wiki page. I’m sure readers would be interested in the unprofessional and incompetent state of a leader formerly in charge of US nuclear forces.
Isn’t it worse in a way, that “the adults are in charge here” –as it were– that there was only “responsible” nuclear brinkmanship? This sort of reminds me a story my older brother told me about his Psych rotation, about a woman wanted to ‘cut’ her man ‘ a little.’
Flash from not so distant past:
President Obama Fires High Ranking Nuclear Chiefs
http://truthinmedia.com/president-obama-fires-high-ranking-nuclear-chiefs/
Well it looks like the crazies in the UK Govt. would consider hosting nukes and Russian response:
http://tass.ru/en/world/799423
Funnily enough the UK along with over half the “G7” wouldn’t even make it to join if the group was based on GDP adjusted for purchasing power: China, US, India, Japan, Russia, Germany and Brazil – would be the group. I also wonder why are the 2 EU nobodies are allowed to go?
A problem is unintended consequences, some crazies (no shortage in the US, and elsewhere) doing something stupid, thinking a nuclear war is winnable, or just a tragedy of errors as has nearly happened numerous time in the past (some from the US side and some from USSR si8de — and now there are other nuclear powers, and some who just have big missiles which could be mistaken as nuclear armed). Consider all those people accidentally shot with an ‘unloaded’ gun.
I don’t this making the situation any safer or better. It may be difficult to consider the balance between moderately low risk and totally horrific consequences, but a key principle in computer security is assume that at one point security will be broken and plan on limiting the damage and recovery time if/when it happens. Last thing we need is another nuclear arms race.
I dunno if I’m a psycho case or not, but lookin’ at the photo of a nuclear cloud that Saker posted here, I really see: two eyes, a nose, a grinning mouth and protruding cheeks, giant elephant-like ears on sides, and even an Adam apple for good measure (or, is it the mouth wide agape?) :-)
Please report if you see the same. If you don’t, I’ll hurry to a shrink. And if you do, then we together hurry to a shrink.
Mouth agape, perhaps a bit of tongue sticking out on the lower lip. Be afraid….
I can find at least 4 or 5 faces. It’s a common phenomenon called pareidolia.

Idea of Extra US Missiles in Europe ‘Stupid’ – Nuclear Weapons Authority
06:18 06.06.2015(updated 14:41 06.06.2015)
MIT Emeritus Professor of Science, Technology and International Security and one of the world’s leading authorities on missile defense Theodore Postol claims that deploying new US intermediate-range or cruise missiles in Europe to deter Russia is technically ridiculous.
WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Deploying new US intermediate-range or cruise missiles in Europe to deter Russia is technically ridiculous, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Emeritus Professor of Science, Technology and International Security and one of the world’s leading authorities on missile defense Theodore Postol told Sputnik.
“There is absolutely no military reason for injecting missiles into Europe,” Postol said on Friday. “That is militarily stupid.”
Any decision to deploy such weapons “could increase the chances of an unexpected accident or miscalculation that lead to nuclear war,” Postol warned.
…
Yes… I see a clown face. Very apt.
Keep up the great work Saker.
… at the end of the session, he told me it was just a curly wig. He told me he was joking after my long staring at him.
@ Do Do You See What I See?
Q; I dunno if I’m a psycho case or not,
R; At least you passed the Rorschach test [one way or the other].
It’s a clown (Bozo?)
I saw Bozo the Clown right away.
Coco the clown, eye makeup, wide grin and hair in two bunches by side.you so crazy- paved.
I looked, and saw a laughing clown.
I have always hated clowns, ever since my first – and last – circus trip at four years of age. Stupid and nasty.
Maybe my subconscious was onto something?
Coulrophobia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coulrophobia
quite widespread (and justified IMHO)
The picture is a well-known photoshop of a nuke cloud, morphed into a clown’s head. You’re not crazy, just a bit naive of photoshopping games.
if you’re ever in doubt about a picture on the net, you can use tineye.com to search for other/similar images. And thus see their context. Often not what the current instance claims it to be.
@ Do You See What I See?
I followed the hint by TerraHertz, went to the web site tineye.com, entered the web address of Saker’s nuclear cloud, and got the following result:
http://orig00.deviantart.net/6a39/f/2014/171/e/8/bomba_atomica_palhao_by_tkasabov2-d7n6f7v.jpg
Haha. Seems loosely based on a 1950s test at Maralinga, Australia.
Saker it’s good to hear from you. I know you’re busy managing the Saker newsroom nowadays – which is a very valuable contribution in this information struggle – but I enjoy your own written pieces. Thanks for this sanity reminder – be well :)
Well, I am not sure that US nukes are in what I would call “sane” hands, but would say that there are probably/hopefully enough sane minds to prevail over the crazies.
Hi Grieved,
It’s not like I don’t write regularly here – look at the “analyses” and “interview” section. And, for a giggle or a rant, the sandbox. Do you really feel that I write too little here?
Hugs and cheers,
The Saker
Good friend Saker – I support everything you do. I have a personal affection for your writing, there’s a signature feel to every author, and I get a paragraph or two into a piece and think, hey, this is Saker!
You ask and so I’ll be honest. I miss you. I used to come to hear you speak. Now it’s a mega kind of thing with lots of authors. But I support this. I can’t give you a clear answer. Only you and your server logs can say what does the best good in this world – you must follow that path for sure. I miss the days when it was just you.
You asked and so I answered. This doesn’t make it right, this doesn’t make it even something I support. Follow your path. But you did ask and so I did answer. I miss you, in all this sound and fury. But this doesn’t mean anything important, necessarily.
I miss them good ole’ days too. They had to go i think, there was no way it could have continued like it was, or was there?. ..probably not..
i’ve said this on here before, there was a great sense of immediacy and involvement in the unfolding of events in the East, in how it was before. This closeness really opened my eyes and was an incredible gift.
But also, what i have thought many times, is that the increasing harshness, severity and threat of the global situation have significantly changed the climate or view, or whatever, of the possibility of how things may be presented by Saker., ‘May be’ .. .. i don’t know entirely… It was far from roses before, but the great acceleration of the powers evil in one year are very evident.
My sense too, is that we’re in for much worse.Keep up the good work Saker, hugs!
I really miss the witty repartee between The Saker and some of the commenters from the old days of the old blog. In a way, Saker is at his best when responding to comments under his articles. So entertaining and enlightening. maybe it is the spontaneity of the moment. Nobody handles clever trolls with more panache than Saker.
“Recent documents show that the hardcore branch of the US policy during the Vietnam war, was playing dangerous games with North Vietnam and the Soviets, in order to drag the other side to negotiations. We see today a similar game played by the neocons in Ukraine and Asia-Pacific. In the new Cold War, neocons are playing more dangerous games with Russia and China, as they try to persuade that they will not hesitate to proceed in a nuclear strike against both their rivals, because they see that the Sino-Russian bloc threatens the US global sovereignty.”
http://bit.ly/1KKn0fl
Here’s the nugget, Saker:
“Nobody in the USA is really considering using nuclear weapons against missiles on the Russian territory Russia because everybody knows that this would guarantee a devastating response on the territory of the continental USA. Of course, if by the verb “considering” we mean “develop the capability to” then both sides have considered nuking each other since the end of WWII.”
So, you beg the question.
The easiest thing to keep a flame under the Cold War 2 pot is nukes and nuclear proliferation.
The US is perfectly happy doing the crazed thing. It is the old Nixon tactic in Vietnam. Christmas bombings, Haiphong and Hanoi under the bombs. He was out to scare not just Hanoi into some peace agreement. He wanted to show muscle to Mao in Beijing. And he needed to satisfy the hawks in the country who never would accept a defeat in Nam. And peace is a defeat to American military.
The US needs to damage Russia. That’s the military goal for the hawks and the State Department ideologues.
They will do the same with China. They need to damage the PLA.
The twisted, mutant American Exceptionalism in the minds of the Pentagon precludes having any military that is equal to it. Russia is up to that standard, except for “projection” capability far from home. The PLA is far less capable in almost every way. (However, they have just begun to build. Ten years from now China will have a massive, global military on the ocean and based on several continents).
I think the nukes talk has been specifically indicated by Putin and the RF military with the submarine missile tests last year, with the statement that wherever NATO places the US missile system becomes ground zero, and that if Russian troops are overwhelmed in defense of the nation, tactical nukes will be used. They demonstrated this openly in last spring and summer’s massive training, snap drills and regional maneuvers.
I think it so impressed China that it drew China closer to Russia and bonded China to protect Russia economically while it received Russian military protection. We are seeing this with Russian naval movements in the Asia-Pacific.
From now on, the muscles of all three global giants are nuclear at their core. It cannot be avoided and it will continue because technology is driving new weapons of all kinds. Space weapons and counter-weapons will be big. Weapons that can kill all communications and radars, networks and links on land, in space, and under the ocean are being developed.
The miniaturization of nukes is proceeding from many sources. Israel, France, Pakistan certainly. Imagine what the US is doing.
They will put them on drones and swarm a battlefield. There is no end to the nuclear weapon.
It will be some ten year-old Russian boy of today who will be in his fifties or sixties who gets to decide to end this next round of expansion of weapons systems.
The mighty Hegemon will never give them up.
I also believe that the think tanks in the US never stop war-gaming the nuclear strike against Russia. There is ample evidence of that scenario.
http://csis.org/files/media/csis/pubs/pm_0417.pdf
https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2013/05/01/csis-m01.html
No one should ever think that it could never happen. It will if it can. It hasn’t because it cannot be done without catastrophic loss from the counter-strike.
Russia should never be encouraged to roll back its nuclear shield. The enemies of Russian civilization are virtually eternal. As long as Satan walks the Earth, Russia is its target.
There are thousands of Americans like General Jack D. Ripper (from Dr. Strangelove). They have learned to love the Bomb. The feel entitled to develop any bomb of any capacity and rationalize the use of the bombs (Atomic, nuclear, hydrogen, uranium, plutonium, neutron, smart, cluster, fuel, JDAM, napalm, Agent Orange, and chemical and biological, too).
The US has led the way. It’s the viagra of militarism. They feel impotent without them.
Larchmonter, thank you for the pyscho-sexual insight into the crazed western war gamers.
This offensive first strike megalomania must have some sort of Pentagonal cult obsession with the phallic rites of the ancient cult of Osiris. Who married his sister ISIS. I’m not even entirely kidding.
Time for some deflating ridicule before such dickheads erase two million years of efforts to separate ourselves from the baboons.
You seem very informed on Russo-Sino tactics and strategies. Can you explain to me the point of Russian warplanes buzzing American naval vessels, or PLA submarines shadowing American naval vessels in their territorial waters. It sounds at face value, like an obvious reaction to American intrusion, but what’s the point of a toothless threat to a determined bully? Both the Russian Suhoi and the PLA sub went to the trouble of signaling they were unarmed before approaching the intruder, basically negating the need for a violent response from the Americans. Besides the propaganda value, what other use is this tactic, because it isn’t much of a deterrent upon close inspection. Why attack a heavily armed Arleigh- Burke class destroyer with an unarmed Suhoi ( which still wouldn’t amount to much of a threat even if it were armed to the teeth). There was never a threat from the Russo-Sino alliance, they simply pretended to be threatening the Americans for the benefit of the media.
First, the Chinese sub never signaled anything. In fact, the big surprise was it was there for maybe days.
Second, either you have the technology or you don’t. So you show it. You can assume that the other side then comprehends their own mortality if it comes to that.
Third, you have to have courageous pilots and ship captains and crews. If they won’t engage closely, they won’t fight when the sh*t hits the fan. So you send men who are courageous and will close with the enemy.
Fourth, you have every right to do what both Russia does and what China did.
Expect to see the Chinese take some paint off US Navy ships and maybe even tip wings with those big slow P-8 Poseidon spy planes. They have a history of hot-shot pilots.
I have told this story before. It is good to repeat.
1962, Alaska, Russian Backfire Bombers Tu-22. Flying over US region.
JFK sent AF flight to send them a lesson. My friend, Paul Johnson Jr led the 4 planes into Soviet air space, flew down onto a Soviet air base at supersonic speed, strafed the runway, all the windows blew out of all the buildings from the sonic blast of the four jets and then they flew out to Alaska. Top Secret. But a warning that JFK wanted the flyovers by the bombers to stop.
Operations Red Oak was the secret name. I discussed this with the General who had the command under which Paul flew. It happened.
This stuff goes on. Nations flex and pose and strut their stuff. Because they can.
Super powers don’t want war. Showing what you have prevents war. Doesn’t prevent accidents, but it does prevent intrigue and fear of the unknown.
You think the Russians and Chinese don’t know what the US is doing with its Super Space Spy Plane? The Russian rocket engines launch it. The X-37B. http://www.bbc.com/future/story/20121123-secrets-of-us-military-spaceplane
“First, the Chinese sub never signaled anything.” – link please.
The SU did – so what was the point?
Read your ass off, Anon. 2007 was the first big incident. Massive info. Nothing says the Chinese said, Hey we’re down here. Watch us watch you.
Now go read. Better yet, go.

it is this kind of attitude from american / westerner that caused wars.. the underestimation of everything chinese / russian and their overestimation of their own capability in war , based of false historical data (most american think it is america that won the war in Europe, they forgot that it is russia who destroyed the german military might, not americans)..
this arrogance lead to the most embarrasing debacle in korea , when mac arthur arrogantly dismissed his staff’s warning about chinese response if they crossed to north korea.. and when US forces crossed the red line, the chinese army descended upon them and wiped out the south korean infantry divisions in HOURS (!!) and caused the most embarassing retreat in american history…
oh , the history books only wrote about the ‘gallant’ US marines in chosin reservoir , but how many americans knew about the massacre of US 2nd infantry divisions by the chinese in endless ambushes ? (the chinese’s favorite tactics in korea was to infiltrate BEHIND US formations and destroy them when they retreated)..
Anyone here remember the ARROGANCE of Crassus who brought his legions to persia and got slaughtered by the outnumbered persians ??
We never hear of this but it was the Soviets who defeated the Japanese imperial army, before WW2 and the end of WW2.The US never faced the brunt of the Japanese army, only their navy. The soviets defeated a force of 2 million men. The largest Japanese forces the US faced was under 100K. Everyone takes it for granted that the US defeated the Japanese because they landed on a Japanese colony of Okinawa. A colony which was fighting for their own freedom from the Japanese. You would think it was some great feat to defeat a small force who had no hope of resupply with the bulk of your pacific forces. But the number of films made of this heroic deeds are amazing.. Kind of like kicking dogs on your walk in the park.
All these false narratives have gone to their heads. First being able to defeat native Americans with bows and arrows with guns, then some pacific islanders and other colonies which were already beat up by other empires. The most powerful force the US has ever faced were the Iraqi’s.. But as we saw, the Iraqi’s were using far far inferior weapons. Steel tipped bullets made in Iraq by incompetents, using overwhelming firepower against their targets, And all this against a country with a population of 25 million that had gone through a decade long war and had depleted any effective weapons they already had. Don’t forget the Saudi’s and Kuwaiti’s had bribed any Sunni general in saddam’s army to run away before the fight even started, Just the munitions expense came to over 100 billion just to drive saddam back into Iraq.. The only actual fight that ever took place was to shoot soldiers running back home. Only a single Iraqi attack in defiance to Saddam in the entire so called war caused massive damage to a staging area in Saudi Arabia. Saddam himself did not want to fight and his generals all ran away first.
The only actual fight that ever took place was to shoot soldiers running back home.
Shoot? try air strikes with cluster bombs, on a convoy of 1700 – 2000 vehicles; what’s that? about 8000 people at least? including civilian refugees. Most never buried, just left to be blown over by the sands. Great brave “victory”.

I guess people will always fight, always have wars. Why not make it a bit more fair, by making a world compact to NEVER USE AVIATION? make that against international law. Let them fight man to man, toe to toe, let everyone take the SAME risks if they want to fight.

I think you vastly overstate your case and distort history here, and frankly, provide a view that is insulting to the forces and dead who suffered to take down Imperial Japan.
The Soviets invaded Manchuria on August 9 and the Japanese surrendered on August 15, with fighting continuing until September 2. The force the Soviets faced was not at its authorized strength – it was closer to 1.25 million. There were several thousand casaulties only from this campaign.
Most of the Japanese Army was faced by the Nationalist and Communist Chinese forces, seeing how Japan deployed 4 million men into the invasion of China.
The US faced over 400,000 Japanese Army troops in the Philippines Campaign.
The total size of the Imperial Navy, Naval Land Forces and Navy Air Service was around 2 million on over 400 ships.
The primary reason the Japanese were defeated was the resistance of the Chinese on land from 1937 onwards which bogged down their Army and the destruction of their naval power by America from 1942 onwards and the systematic island hopping campaign encroaching into the Japense homeland. The atomic bombings and Soviet invasion hastened a conclusion which was already imminent.
To claim the Soviets defeated Japan, as if they did more than perhaps 1/2% of the fighting in the Pacific theater is a grevious insult to the long term struggle of the Chinese, Americans, Indians, and others who actually fought Japan for 4 to 8 years and suffered enormous numbers of dead and wounded to free Asia from Japanese military imperialism.
Well! we do not ever hear anything but how wonderful yankwank is.
They that never commit, until they have overwhelming force.
I agree with Kat Kan it is not honourable to bomb defeated soldiers fleeing.
The Anglo-Americans are no soldiers….they prefer to beat and torture defenceless civilians, that is why in their later work they choose to be, police thugs, prison officers, traffic wardens etc etc.

Battle of Khalkhin Gol
“In 1938, Zhukov was directed to command the First Soviet Mongolian Army Group, and saw action against Japan’s Kwantung Army on the border between Mongolia and the Japanese-controlled state of Manchukuo. This campaign was an undeclared war that lasted from 1938 to 1939”
You’ll be singing ‘From the Halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli’ next.
I’m afraid your faith in China’s ability to rival the Americans is misplaced. How can China claim to be a super power if its citizens can’t even travel on inland waterways without the state’s guarrantee of the most basic of minimum safety standards?
Only 14 survivors out of 456 souls, and they weren’t even sailing on the open seas.
” The official death toll in the Chinese cruise ship ‘Eastern Star’ catastrophe has reached 406 on Sunday, as rescuers continued to work on the wreckage in search of the bodies. The ship overturned on Yangtze River Monday night with 456 people on board amid severe weather. Thirty-six people are still officially missing, while only 14 people have survived, including the three found alive in air pockets under the ship’s hull by the divers. The ship was righted by cranes early Friday after hopes of finding any more survivors had faded”- via RT.
No need to “rival the Americans” yet. That will inevitably come when the Imperial Hydra has lost a few of its many heads.
In the meantime, build an attractive alternative, and the heads will inevitably develop minds of their own. Today, it’s the little heads like Hungary and Czech Republic, but the big heads are also making noises. The current crop of empty suits are still full of sound and fury, but behind the curtain they’re signing up to the AIIB and China’s new Gold Investment Fund.
Their corporations are slavering over the infrastructure projects being announced. They know that getting left off the approved vendor/contractor lists for these projects is equivalent to boarding the wrong train. Their lobbies will go into overdrive to keep geo-political and ideological considerations from forcing them out of the game. Already Mercedes and Siemens are building high-tech plants in Russia, making them “indigenous”.
Either a microburst or a tornado caused the cruise ship to capsize, and no state is capable of providing such protection. A similar event happened in the Empire, but with far fewer deaths.
What does a ship accident have to do with China’s rise as a super power?
The US just had a horrific train accident.
South Korea had a boat sink. How many died in that, Whizbang?
You use Xinhua as if you are Chinese. Maybe just a Taiwanese grey market clone. Or a troll.
Your argument is specious at best. A desperate need in your pathetic reach for something to denigrate China.
Hell, in a major city in the US some years ago, two very tall skyscapers collapsed because of fire. Other one just got tired and fell down, I guess to keep company with its’ neighbors. Talk about crappy construction. Somebody should revise the building codes, or something.
Your points are salient. Anything that can happen, will at some point, happen. The universe is built that way. In the fullness of time, all physical possibilities tend to crystallize in physical events. It is only our temporal myopia, that foresees future events as a linear continuation of our remembered past, that blinds us to this. Long dormant volcanoes erupt, and long dormant fault lines move, but we build whole communities on them.
How to break that chain? Like volcanoes and faults, it will be broken whether by catastrophic or more benign events, but the chain is there and we are making it increasingly taut.
Viewing the state of the world in those aspects visible to me, my only hope for some time has been financial implosion causing across-the-board resets. Humanity has blindly sauntered to the brink. We’ve overconsumed & overproduced everything, including ourselves and our weaponry. Luckily, in our blindness, we also overproduced the means by which we were able to overconsume and overproduce on such a scale. Namely, our credit based financial system grew far beyond its original utility and morphed into a financial Tower of Babel when we couldn’t continue profitably overconsuming and overproducing everything else. That tower is shaking. Grotesquely top heavy with derivatives of derivatives and faux “assets”, its foundations long neglected, it will come crashing to earth. One can hope that, when it does, it will do so of its own accord and not because of an external, nuclear trigger. One can then further hope that it causes the physical plane on which we all live to also reset with a minimum of damage. Getting poorer is infinitely preferable to becoming radioactive ash.
We can see that Russia & China are leading the way in constructive preparation for the Tower’s collapse. The latest announcement of China’s invitation to invest in Gold mines and trading along the New Silk Road is a fundamental cornerstone of the trading system they’re preparing. It’s a monumental move, a lifesaver in anticipation of the Tower’s collapse. Quietly, 60 nations have signed up.
In the meantime…

Tutorial on Management Cybernetics (Part 3/4) by Prof. Umpleby
from systemics, cybernetics and informatics conferenceWHSCI 2007
IHe covered material on system dynamics modeling and spoke about http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Club_of_Rome
The Club of Rome is a global think tank that deals with a variety of international political issues. Founded in 1968 at Accademia dei Lincei in Rome, Italy, the Club of Rome describes itself as “a group of world citizens, sharing a common concern for the future of humanity.”
…
including peak oil, population, carbon dioxide, and other neat ways we could end ourselves. He mentioned some books predicting the problems we are having and how we have failed to deal with them — along with ways to model and describe the situation.
I’m rather impressed with the talk and with Umpleby, and the field he teaches, and am learning a lot by searching out this stuff. It looks like it’s important for people to know about this.
blue, it is important, but once again, as in the case of the Austrian School rude quack (where did he go? He was fun!) the real test is epistemology. The Club of Rome promotes Malthusianism, genocide, and people who confront the extreme tension of threads like this one and seek relief by kind of psychologically bailing out on what actually makes us human and potentially able to surmount all these scary limits (as in Meadows and Forrester’s Limits to Growth) and retreating from our challenges.
Whereas, in principle, if we are bold enough and civilized enough we could outlive our own sun and virtually become an immortal species. That’s the goal: real evolution, not shrinking from it.
For those who are worn out with pessimism of all things Ukrainian that are not of Novorossiya, let’s refresh ourselves with the anti-Aristotelian, anti-Malthusian genius of Russian-Ukrainian Biogeochemist Vladimir Vernadsky: https://larouchepac.com/20150512/vernadsky-larouche-there-are-no-limits-growth The antidote to the the Aristotelian, Malthusian cultural pessimism of the 100% oligarchical Club of Rome. Hang in there, and don’t worry about CO2. Another oligarchical fraud Obomber uses to tell Africans to eat shit and die (stay in the mud) because if they aspire to a better living standard “the planet will boil over”. Horse puckey! The polar ice caps are growing and we are cooling because we are entering a solar minimum.
The Chinese lunar project includes mining Helium 3 and bringing it back to earth for fusion reactors. If we as a species overcome the banksters and get to the fusion platform, JFK will smile in his grave. No pollution of any kind. Electricity so abundant and cheap that it won’t be worth metering it. Human economic misery abolished. Oligarchism overcome.
Finally, an excerpt from the following link: http://modernhistoryproject.org/mhp?Article=FinalWarning&C=8.5
“Three years later, in April, 1968 a think-tank of financiers, scientists, economists, politicians, heads of state, and industrialists from ten different countries, again met at Rockefeller’s private estate in Bellagio, Italy, at the request of Aurelio Peccei, the Italian industrialist who had close ties to Fiat and the Olivetti Corporation. He claimed to have solutions for world peace and prosperity, which could be accomplished through world government. The Club of Rome (COR) was established with a membership of 75 prominent scientists, industrialists, and economists from 25 countries, which along with the Bilderberg, have become one of the most important foreign policy arms of the Round Table group.”
“Many of the COR executives were drawn from NATO and they have been able to formulate a lot of what NATO claims are its policies. Through Lord Carrington, they were able to split NATO into two factions: a left-wing political group whose doctrine was formed on the basis of Peccei’s book Human Quality, and its former military alliance.”
It is a very steep and slippery epistemological slope we tread, indeed, and like mountaineers scaling Mt Everest, we best look out for each other, especially when it comes to deep fundamental questions.
I just heard about the Club of Rome and am going by just the wikipedia article for now. That says
“The club’s worldview is based on three things. First it has a global perspective in viewing different situations, with the awareness that there is an increasing interdependency of countries. Second it seeks for holistic solutions understanding the different interactions in contemporary problems. Finally, the club has a long-term perspective for solutions.[14]”
which sounds OK by itself. It may be that it’s evil, mistaken, taken over by oligarchs, wrong-headed, misunderstood — whatever — I don’t know. Yet it seems I should learn more about it as time permits, and understand more about what it is one way or the other, and at least what they are talking about.
The cybernetics tutorial I linked to mentioned it in passing, relating to limits of growth, which is real and important, and standard biological modeling for all species. Still, what to do about it is unclear, and approaches could go the way of either very good stuff or great evil. These things are likely more complex with more said about them than I could manage to wrap my brain around in the years left to me (along with everything else I’m trying to understand).
Nonetheless, I think the concepts and methods of cybernetics and new ideas with modeling and epistemology is central to thinking about this, and that looking at the basic assumptions and styles of analysis need to be understood to see what any of the groups, oligarchs and revolutionaries include, are trying to do. One key thing which seems to important is the ‘search for meaning’, and cultural and personal normative values.
It occurs to me, for instance, that population growth depends on the ‘biological imperative to reproduce, the employment of having children in connection with personal identity and meaning, and the lack of security due to dysfunctional social systems which cause people to have children (as well as acquire personal wealth) to provide for one’s old age. Even ethnic, racial, and national identity becomes a factor in trying to increase birth rate and local population (although it’s mysterious how much of the US wants to increase birth rate while simultaneously failing to adequately provide for children once they are born).
Yes — it’s complicated. I’m hoping for and seeing some better tools to sort all this out with the material on these videos and cybernetics, systematics, and informatics generally, and I like the interdisciplinary approach. So far these people (even realizing that Umpleby is with George Washington University) seem to be a pretty decent bunch. I want to learn more.
Population growth more than anything depends on your own status more than anything. Education is a part of it but it is not because of it. As educated people are more successful and they only have so much time to take care of children. And it costs a lot to give someone an education and develop them for the world. Once you become progressive, 1 or 2 children is the norm. Most working middle class people don’t want more than 2 kids. as it takes ever more effort to raise them. Almost everyone I know have 1 or 2 children, unlike 30-50 years ago when more than 6 were the norm. Lower the status of people the more kids they have because for them 2 kids of 8 kids, the effort to raise them are pretty much the same, they just let the kids raise themselves. While hand me downs are rare in middle class families, they are the norm for lower classes. Teens these days want phones, laptops, video games and such.. You cant buy those for 5 kids.. You can barely afford them for 1 or 2. By the time you hand them down even if possible, they are outdated.. Society itself has become population control..
I think we can clearly see this in Israel and the Palestinian territories.. While people in Israel have 2 kids as the norm, its 5 or more behind the fence.. And that snot just a Jewish thing. The Arabs, wanting the same thing as their Jewish neighbors cant afford all that many kids either..
making something of oneself or wanting your children to be better than you has a lot of meaning we don’t realize and is the single most driving factor in human society. Although I have to say, the US seem to have gone off the rails.. after kicking their kids out of the house now it seems they try harder to end them. I cant see how parents are not out in drives pressuring their politicians to not do things that endanger their children. Threatening other nuclear power is in direct conflict with preserving and nurturing your future. Cutting your balls off might save everyone a lot of grief comes to mind. When you have lost empathy for your children, You sure don’t have any for strangers…
Two factors in distressed countries is having more kids shares the burden of their taking care of you when old, and if you figure on losing some because of war or poverty then you have more.
There is also, when you are poor and you have no electricity and such, what else do you do? (birth rates do tend to go up 9 months after power outages, I’ve read.)
Rural farming areas traditionally had more children to help work the land — and there was no overpopulation there, so the more the better.
There is also the religious factor where the church wanted to become stronger by having more members (and for various clans, tribes, nations, etc. this can be a part).
Nations where there is need for much cheap labor could have policies that the poor should have many children, while the rich wants only a few to keep their estates in one piece.
I suppose this relates to multiple wives too.
Seems to be complicated motives at work.
Honestly search by all means. From reading your many posts for a few months, I am fairly confident that you have the intelligence and persistence get to the bottom of The Club of Rome and conclude that they are far from a nice group of people. It may take a while and it may take adjusting a few axioms like ” limits to growth are real”. Oligarchism knows how to delphicly and skillfully package itself, there’s no doubt about that! Keep peeling the onion and get to the core of the matter and eventually: they will lead you to the last word in this post.
Like every other species on earth, we either evolve or go extinct. Unlike every other species on earth, we can DECIDE to evolve. They can’t. So we should. The Club of Rome and Meadows and Forrester are about NOT evolving. Evolution will do away with oligarchy. Do you expect that they will assist it, or do everything they can to stop it, up to and including deployment of all of the geopolitical divide and conquer evil this site is going after?
Try this short little film: https://youtu.be/0fKBhvDjuy0 The Powers of Ten Movie. Most people are almost entirely thinking and acting and being in the first state described. the square meter of normal scale above the picnic site on the shores of Lake Michigan, near Soldier’s Field.
Not Vernadsky. Not Einstein. This planet is either a stepping stone or our grave.
Beyond avoiding the short term extinction whose threat creates the tension of this thread, we can and therefore we ought to avoid the longer term extinction, not from fusion bombs, but from the exhaustion of our sun’s fusion reactor.
WE currently have the productive capability to support 36 billion people, at least 30% of our productive assets sit idle.
Thank you, Erebus. Very well said.
Dear Lach
I do agree with you. As I have said before that “WAR is Certain”. And of course it would be Nuclear and it has to. The only basic reason is There is no way of getting out of the WEsteren Mechaivilian system without destroying it. It is not a question of “IF” rather it is question of “WHEN”. and it would happen and must happen but it should be delayed as much as possible so that it should expose everything, absolute naked.
I am not sure how many folks understood what Nazism was and is after witnessing the boycott of May 9th the Russian Victory Day Parade. It is/was crystal clear what Nazism means. I don’t think it means Hitler. Hitler is/was just a bogeyman. It was the entire West and today it is again the Whole West. Any doubt??? The sadest part after the WW2 is U S …..

Sanjay, I think it more a case of the West being Fascist. As I read recently, the US has the best government money can buy. Another idea was for congress to wear apparel similar to NASCAR drivers so that the public could see who their sponsors were.
Goverment owned by Multinational Finance and their Corporate offspring is stifling for humanity’s progress and future.
With its serial wars of aggression against Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, covert war against Syria, bombings of multiple nations from Yemen to Somalia to Pakistan, and now its sinister provocations agianst Russia and China, the American Empire has already launched World War 3–rationalized by a 1001 American media lies about WMDs in Iraq, Terrorism,Human Rights, National Security, Freedom of Navigation, or most Orwellian of all, “deterring aggresion.”
The only question is whether America will escalate its global war rampage including nuclear war.
If you want an answer to that question, just remember that America used atomic weapons against civilians in Japan based upon the lie that it was needed to end WW 2–a clear American crime against humanity that most fascistic American patriots still don’t have the guts to admit.
Aussie FM saying ISIS used chlorine and seeking chemical experts seems to indicate the game is up on support for the caliphatists…a small crack appears…but western politicians seem to get it that lots of people…voters…have twigged to the duplicity and therefore credibility of other aspects of panopticon edifice are now at stake.
What local experts do they need? According to DPR, US experts are making chlorine gas in Ukraine — they took over a chemical factory and fired all the staff. Not far to take it from there.
Chlorine is almost the easiest thing to make, with household chemicals or electrolysis of salt. We used to make it in the school toilets. Just like burning sulfur for SO2. Even some higher end Ukrainians would be able to do it under supervision…
Dear Saker/Friends
“Yes, the Empire is in a panic mode”
The above sentence in your above article is the best and in summary it says everything.
As a matter of fact in my many comments I have said many times a great and that too super power never behaves the way US is acting. But it is good and very good that it is behaving the way it is, so that the rest of the world should and must see the TRUTH that if they are witnessing an Empire or a Vampire. Accordingly the world not the “WORLD” will take action.
Oh yes the days of CR (color Rev) is over too.

A more likely “nuke” would be to seize Russian assets in the West. In fact, it is possible that a lot of the smoke in the Western media is to distract people from looking at what actual plans might be.
My questions are
1 Is there any chance of a direct military confrontation between NATO and Russia?
2 Will a direct military confrontation between NATO and Russia involve use of nukes?
Three months ago, I came across an article that convinced me that we have never been closer to a nuclear nightmare. One can all too easily imagine how it might play out….
“Whichever government launches and controls a superintelligent AI first will almost certainly end up the most powerful nation in the world because of it….it’s a winner-takes-all scenario….”
http://motherboard.vice.com/read/a-global-arms-race-to-create-a-superintelligent-ai-is-looming
That author totally misses the point. He thinks a superintelligent robot will DO AS IT’S TOLD and be slave to whoever invents it first. He needs to rethink his definition of “intelligent”.
Agreed, however it is the irrational human dimension, e.g., the unfolding AI drama (misperceptions wrapped in statist group-think, for instance), which is most alarming and damning:
“Sun Tzu said: Whoever is first in the field and awaits the coming of the enemy will be fresh for the fight; whoever is second in the field and has to hasten to battle will arrive exhausted.”
“WASHINGTON: Because China believes it is much weaker than the United States, they are more likely to launch a massive preemptive strike in a crisis. Here’s the other bad news: The current US concept for high-tech warfare, known as Air-Sea Battle, might escalate the conflict even further towards a “limited” nuclear war, says one of the top American experts on the Chinese military.”
“What US analysts call an “anti-access/area denial” strategy is what China calls “counter-intervention” and “active defense,” and the Chinese appraoch is born of a deep sense of vulnerability that dates back 200 years, China analyst Larry Wortzel said at the Institute of World Politics: “The People’s Liberation Army still sees themselves as an inferior force to the American military, and that’s who they think their most likely enemy is.”
“That’s fine as long as it deters China from attacking its neighbors. But if deterrence fails, the Chinese are likely to go big or go home. Chinese military history from the Korean War in 1950 to the Chinese invasion of Vietnam in 1979 to more recent, albeit vigorous but non-violent, grabs for the disputed Scarborough Shoal suggests a preference for a sudden use of overwhelming force at a crucial point, what Clausewitz would call the enemy’s ‘center of gravity’.”
http://breakingdefense.com/2013/10/chinas-fear-of-us-may-tempt-them-to-preempt-sinologists/
“..vigorous but non-violent, grabs […] suggests a preference for a sudden use of overwhelming force…”
What are they smoking? a non-violent grab suggests a preference for overwhelming force? do they have any evidence for China believing they are weaker than the US?
Does the US have any business trying to tell China where they can go in their own backyard? they need to start worrying about their own, and keep their noses out of other peoples’. Yeah, think about Korea and Vietnam while you’re at it – USA got beaten in both, against what they believed to be weaker forces. Think about it.
That article is America’s latest anti-China psyops to peddle their “China Threat” propaganda.
In particular, America wants to rationalize its Pivot against China and moving 60% of the American war machine to Asia by accusing China of aggressive intentions.
In reality, America wants to control China’s economic rise, which will eclipse the United States.
That is REALLY what motivates the USA.
Meanwhile, the world’s leading aggressor nation, the United States of America, has actually attacked multiple nations ranging from Iraq to Afghanistan, to Libya to Yemen.
Americans are a warped people, as they always accuse other nations of the United States’s own crimes.
America imperial strategists like anti-China analyst, Larry Wortzel, simply cannot bring themselves to admit America’s global aggression, indoctrinated as they are since birth in the cult of American Goodness(tm).
Watch Ex Machina if you get the oportunity, a bit slow evolving story, but the most interesting imo in regards to AI. Best twist of the bunch.
US is in violation of the NPT, due to its deployment of tactical nuclear weapons in EU countries. US says it may do so because the weapons remain under its control. However, the language of the treaty does not permit this exception.
It’s not just the USA, it is all through the zionazis/nazi establishment. IE: the zpc/nwo. This isn’t country vs country anymore, as in the 19th century. Neutralizing the USA will not solve the problem, the parasite has already transferred to alternate hosts.
Ahh, but the US, or more accurately, the USM – USD tag team is undoubtedly the linchpin. Neutralize it, and the EUnuchs’ strapons go limp, while the remaining 4 eyes go blind.
Unless it takes CN & RU together, who could project power for the NWO at a level remotely close to the USM – USD tag team?
@Erebus
This was published a month ago (May 18th).
Gives a very interesting update on the de-dollarization campaign (because that’s what it really is – a campaign) in, of all places, Harpoon’s Canada:
http://www.voltairenet.org/article187607.html
Bingo!
The trick is to neutralise the organisations the parasites operate through.
This I see being worked on but it is a long process and the 5 second attention span of todays society shout from the rafters because they can’t see immediate results. Although I myself would love to see change at the flick of a switch, it doesn’t work that way except total destruction which for some reason our species seems very apt at.
To move forward we not only need to deal with the destructive mechanations of the global parasites but a solid range of alternatives need to have their foundations laid.
Here’s what war looks like when it isn’t nuclear.

Get a feel for the kinetics of artillery, bombs and mortars.
Listen to the women. (I’ll bet there are hours of video in Donbass of mothers and grandmothers shouting that they don’t know why they and their kin are slaughtered, but they’d never give up the land).
I love these people from Donbass.
The thing is, if you’re going to run, you have to run early.
If being overrun is 100% certainly inevitable (eg German army advance in WW2) you do SCORCHED EARTH. Many people think scorched earth means total destruction by the invader. This is wrong. It is total destruction by the owners. Pile what food and possessions you can onto carts, herd whatever animals you can, slaughter the ones you can’t take. Burn your fields, burn your houses. Leave NOTHING for the invader to eat or take shelter in.
If you stayed and already lost a family member, a neighbour, a house — it is too late to run. You have to stand and fight because you have already paid the price. You stay to avenge them, to WIN, otherwise those losses were for nothing.
I think that Saker is partly missing the point here. It’s that military grandstanding on NATO’s part is meant to influence the political situation within Russia. The Russian population in general and its elites in particular are to be intimidated to the point where their will to resist the empire breaks. If the WSWS is a CIA-run psy-ops outlet, then the alarmism of its article about the nuclear threat would fit into the picture.
We have to ask where this policy will lead to if it does not work, that is, if the strategy fails and Russia does not break. You can not engage in grandstandinjg all the time without loosing credibility at some point. Then your only way out consists of going over to open military aggression.

Censorship to the Igor Ivanovich Strelkovs opinion , from all the controler media from fifth column and the new Boris Berezofsky ,Vlad Sourkov.Well Strelkov is antirusian and the mafa of Kremlin is patriotic and take care for interest of ordinary Russians.
Its personally to Vineyard Moderator because i know that you never will posts my comment.
Not at all, Byzantines. We’ll post YOUR comments. It’s the full copies of other blogs we don’t want to see.
I understand and i agree that part of some my commentS are copy paste from other blogs. But you accused that my comments are antirussian .because criticize the humiliating and deadlock
russian foreign policy .Everybody who dissagree with this ,very welcome to refute my post without unfairly characterizations. ps.And one copy paste”I do not agree with what you have to say, but I’ll defend to the death your right to say it.” –
anti-Russian referred to that one copy/paste I removed; but the reason was the copying, no source given, and too much to read. Many here disagree with Russian foreign policy, that is ok, just give your own reasons.
I agree with the moderator…its too long…nobody reads it…just put in the link…
those are all just assumptions. And we all know what are assumptions, mother of all fuc*ups. So far evildoers won every time. From cold war, majority of Eastern bloc states desert to EU and NATO. NATO is not and was never here to protect people. It is protecting financial elites of EU and “whores” of washington. Keeping them safe from revolutions of own people. US government and what is representing in “dark side” would never give up dismantling Russian federation. That is the goal and it would be achieved no matter how long does it take.
Neighbourhood of Russia is crumbling with generous help of Washington. Once allies to Russia, suddenly enemy of Russia. And phenomenom never stops. And then what? Of course, Russia will be put on place to decide to push away military component of dark side called NATO far away from own borders.
How anyone can think that could be done by negotiations? Only choice is using tactical nukes or few million dead russians. Choice is clear. Anyway, dark side admited that they are not interested in fair game or in “playing chess”. They will break chessboard and scatter figures, so russians would not have anything to play with.
Of course the US won’t use nukes against Russia. They would have to find them first.
Seriously, the WSW may have a CIA infiltrator. They have their dirty hands everywhere else.
anyone read the latest report on how the American red cross swindled 500 mil destined for Haiti?
When they say they are #1, they are not kidding.. There is nothing beneath the cloths.. All the pomp and glitter just shows a skeleton held together with super glue.

Saudi-led genocide in Yemen with US and British backing –
The UN estimate that nearly 20 million Yemenis are in need of humanitarian assistance – 78% of the entire population – represents an increase of 4 million since the escalation of the conflict with the Saudi intervention in March. Twelve million Yemenis are “food insecure”, having to struggle to find their next meal, up 1.4 million since March. Five million are described as “severely food insecure”, meaning they often go for days without a meal.
They are in urgent need of food, water and medical aid, in a humanitarian disaster that aid agencies say has been dramatically worsened by a naval blockade imposed by an Arab coalition and US.

why is that russia and non anglos only have limited time to run military campaign while anglos and their stooge like Saudis can be making war for months with no objection from any international bought bodies like UNO? USA ran war on afghans for decades,on Iraq for decade and on syria for 4 yerars-but in geogria russia had to negotiate after only 5 days due to pressure without killing that evil sakallaski georgian president?
why does russia not make a hue and cry about it// why is russia such a loser?
Anonym: I think it has to do with the art of counterfeiting. In the US we have printed and borrowed so much paper that we feel rich and think we can buy or threaten everyone into submission. Our government debt went from $800 billion in 2000 to $8 Trillion in 2009 to $18 Trillion and accelerating, today. Monopoly money. But our elites are aware of the fact that it will all blow up, and they are in a race against time to bend the will of all nations to their insane satanic will, STARTING WITH THEIR OWN POPULATION with that amazing magic act of disappearing steel girders on Sept 11, 2001.
Don’t be envious chilaviek. You don’t want to copy us or compete with our elites. You want to keep your guard up, your frustrations down, and outlast them. And laugh at them when they downgrade Russia’s credit rating. Apparently low debt and ample foreign reserves count for nothing in their upside down universe.
The events of 2014 in the Ukraine set off an enduring call for greater spending on ‘defensive’ weapons by Nato members.
Calls for a minimum of 2% of GDP, just what the MIC needs!,not just the US,but Britain,France,Isreal and all the other ‘western’ countries that have large arms industries.
Stationing permanent/rotating forces by the US,will be commercially welcome in the Baltic states,Poland,Romania and Bulgaria, after all look at Kosovo.
Plenty of dollars changing hands for hookers and blow and those fat GI’s love to eat!,factor in all the side effects, and occupation forces are a boost to GDP.
Jobs created etc etc.
Sanjin on June 07, 2015 · at 7:57 am UTC made some good points, however the so called developed world has lost to the Asian giant.
Just as Russia had to rebuild it’s economy, creating infastructure and getting up off it’s knees, so does the US…..deserted shopping malls, broken down bridges,an electrical grid that is vulnerable and outdated.
The water supply from the Colorado river alone is a disaster.
Those whom the Gods would destroy they first make mad!
Ironic that uk Cameron is calling for extended sanctions at G7 but has announced big budget reduction in defence budget so Obama and he are going to meet and have a chat about that……

The basic argument being pressed by Saker is that all the New Cold War drama going on is really just realpolitik, just the usual grandstanding and posturing – perhaps a bit more hsyterical on the Western side these days – so don’t worry, be happy. What WSW and GR appear to take into account is that the AP article itself cannot be regarded as a throwaway, but must be regarded as an instrument of policy, since the mainstream media – so called – cannot be considered independent. Beyond that, there is the context, where the US and Nato seem to be playing an astonishing game of nuclear chicken with Russia and China, apparently looking for nerves on edge to be pressed to a snapping point. Saker indicates that this sort of thing is all ‘been there done that’, merely ‘bordering on reckless’ – so, again, don’t worry be happy. GR and WSW seem to think that things have gone far far beyond merely ‘bordering on reckless’. They aren’t advocating that folks light their hair on fire, but they just might be advocating a degree of urgency towards reconsidering humanity’s overall direction.
I don’t think it’s very hard to see who is closer to the truth. Realpolitik was never an adequate excuse for the evil done in its name, nor was it ever an effective bulwark against apocalyptic disaster. It has never been much more than a smokescreen created by courtiers (such as Saker seems to be) as political cover for elites (Saker defends Putin one day, Obama the next). The script that we are seeing played out appears to make global nuclear war inevitable. I applaud WSW and GR for seeing that and wanting to call upon people to change the script. Saker assures us that cooler heads will prevail. Maybe what we need are some heads that are more good than cool.
Somewhat OT…
Has John Kerry been sidelined? For health reasons of course.
Nuland’s blatant public contradiction of Kerry’s Sochi statements should have got her summarily fired.
http://rinf.com/alt-news/featured/obama-sidelines-kerry-on-ukraine-policy/
We’re about to go on to a new, more dangerous course.
Is John Kerry alive????
Wild speculation:
the question being if Kerry had his stroke or heart attack before strangely steering into a curb with his bike?
As Sec of State, he’s a dead man walking. Ahem…
The point is, this battle btwn the Neocons & Realists seems ready to declare a winner. Kerry either makes a big come back, or the N/Cs are in charge.
BTW, we shouldn’t forget the recent purges at Strategic Command. Lots of noise about it a couple yrs ago. They may be quite germane to this discussion.
nuclear isssues: No, they are planning to drain Russia dry with continual defensive wars under the cover of Minsk I, II, III etc type “agreements” or some such nonsense on their borders.

This is not the place to vent but having participated in and listened to people on this blog including Saker( and having my thinking updated and changed on several things so respect is due to all of you) I want to say this: 1. Movements, people, nations make mistakes due to many things. Lenin on the train to Moscow 1917 financed by German bankers was the first example of blow back in the 20th century. It was not a conspiracy etc. etc. etc. They made a mistake thinking that Lenin was a Saashkashvili type –inept, impractical Russian hysteric-feckless intellectual who would be a useful instrument of the Czar’s destruction and thus their triumph. The law of unintended consequences works in all areas of life. What matters is the fundamental intent i.e. philosophical or religious or whatever basis and how it is put into action. Does the person walk the walk? Are disagreements merely temporary tactical ones or are there underlying differences of understanding? Will more be revealed? Is there dedication and discipline?
2. People, nations, movements can grow and change ( for better or worse) –life is a dynamic and there are larger forces at work. We need to think big picture and be careful of labeling thoughtlessly as that can restrict our own thinking thus usefulness in the struggle for the peoples of the planet.
Unlike many of my friends from the 1960’s I did not sell out to the system so I live in a rather poor neighborhood where I watch the debasement,(drugs) demoralization(election circus of powerlessness) and struggles( debt usury) of the American working class . Even so bright moments of block solidarity and compassion are shown also. And I am enraged to tears to see the rulers again cynically, callously lying the American people into another conflict and this with the Russian people.

‘–life is a dynamic and there are larger forces at work’
-that’s a great sentence, it’s not vague, mystical or abstract, though it may be to some, it’s just key to a lot within the big picture that we can’t always see.
@Lenin o financed by German bankers was the first example of blow back in the 20th century. It was not a conspiracy etc.
It was not a conspiracy of the Germans bankers, but of the German-American-British bankers. Trotsky was an American agent.
Saker,
I came across the Global Research articles about a nuclear blast in Yemen and US plans to launch a nuclear strike against Russia late one evening and they flipped me out. Your response helped me steady myself.
I was prepared to put credence in these articles, despite knowing that Michel Chossudovsky and his site are sometimes sensational, scientifically challenged and lacking in appreciation of what millions of ordinary people can do, because of the following, which I expect you will recognize:
* It is no longer a theory but accepted fact that the Masters of the Empire, from 1945 at least through the mid 60’s, fully intended to use nuclear weapons to attack and destroy the Soviet Union.
* There is good circumstantial evidence that the goal of Star Wars was to re-establish the US first strike capability.
* The Empire has been developing space-based and cyber weapons that could revolutionize warfare, and may (rightly or wrongly) believe they have developed the ability of overwhelming Russia’s defenses with a sudden attack.
* The Empire has been working hard for 95 years, and no doubt with growing effectiveness over the past 25, to build a stable of agents and stool pigeons inside Russia. They may well believe that between those assets and their electronic snooping and space-based surveillance they have the ability to locate most Russian strategic weapons in real time.
* The Empire has repeatedly shown it regards the US population as dispensable in its quest for world rule, and has never acknowledged the danger of Nuclear Winter.
* Most importantly the Empire is staring down the barrel of the collapse of its financial system and of its very currency – and hence the loss of its ability to pay for its vast military machine and network of bases, stooges and agents. They may well regard this imminent crisis as a “use it or lose it” moment.
Whatever his limitations, Chossudovsky understands and explains this horrifying reality better than most. While I thank you again for helping me keep a steady keel, still I would caution against ignoring him.
I actually agree with a lot of the things Michel Chossudovsky writes. For example I fully concur with his following quote :
“The “globalization of war” is a hegemonic project. Major military and covert intelligence operations are being undertaken simultaneously in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia and the Far East. The U.S. military agenda combines both major theatre operations as well as covert actions geared towards destabilizing sovereign state.”
Hence we are seeing chaos right across the globe through their empowerment and enabling of their death squads right from the birth of al-Qaeda in Afghanistan as a tool against the Soviet army right through to ISIS and boko haram today. And it is all about economic and military domination of the world. What did Obama say recently ? , that the US should write the laws of the global economy and not China :
“When 95 percent of our potential customers live abroad, we must be sure that we are writing the rules for the global economy, not a country like China,”
There you have it. This is what the so called “trade agreement” with the EU, the TTIP is all about and all other similar trade deals like TPP etc. Economic domination of the whole world through creating divisions and chaos everywhere. Michel Chossudovsky goes on to write :
“Now all those things, all those dimensions – the economic, the social, the military dimensions – coalesce and are sustained by an extensive apparatus of media propaganda. I’m referring to the mainstream media, the corporate media, which sustains the lies and ultimately controls what people think.
And this I would say is an inquisitorial environment. It’s much more devastating than the Spanish Inquisition. The Spanish Inquisition was also based on a Big Lie, and it lasted for three or four hundred years. But we are dealing with a media apparatus which turns realities upside down, presents the western quest, and military adventure, as a peace-making undertaking, which lies with regard to the casualties of war, which presents the war criminals as protagonists of human rights, and so on, so forth”.
There is an interesting interview he gave which is well worth hearing/reading here :

Administrations and governments change. You are correct in that Russia/UUSSR/Russia has been a target but I would say that this posture goes back to the Treaty of Vienna when the Russian Empire refused to comply with some ‘suggestions’.
The question is: where is the institutional memory that is consistant over this period of time? Who can keep a grudge for centuries?
Who can keep a grudge for centuries?
Have you missed all the discussions here in the past year? which tribe, which language, had which bit of geography before which other? who moved, who was occupied, who was pushed out, killed or enslaved? going back to 1000 years or more?
As new members move into an organisation (governing bureaucracy or society) they have these things passed on to them. It becomes part of their subconscious knowledge of “how life is”, as natural as the sun rising in the east, never questioned. It may lie dormant for a long time, but let the other win the lottery (or find oil in the backyard) and suddenly “but that was OURS” wakes up.
If that fails, some ancient memory of an inferior neighbours is dragged up, and transferred to some distant natives, to justify why it “SHOULD be ours”.
Chosen people + Exceptional people
The vacuum left by the USSR has given them 25 years to fill in and take whatever they wanted.
The counterforce was overlooked. 35 years of the rise of China and 15 years of the rise of Putin (Russia).
Now there is no way the chosen and the exceptional can get what they seek.
Add on Iran + India.
They ran out of time when they didn’t wipe out Russia before 2008. Since then, he has organized and amalgamated a consensus and the echelon of leadership to marshall all of Russia’s strengths.
Since the moves against Russia in the last 3 years it has awakened China to the inevitability that China is the next. (as it has happened.)
Never have so few, representing so small a tribe and such a degenerate ideology, faced such an enormous opponent.
History indicates the outcome. Western civilization has metastasized It offers only Death.
.. more like 3000 years.
If you haven’t yet read ‘Controversy of Zion’ I highly recommend you do so.
A lot of truth in your comment.
Brzezinki complained at a 2010 Bilderberg conference of infighting and ‘bilateral antagonisms ‘ among ‘elites’ (I use quotes as they are self-styled, not elected).
He also complained of a ‘political awakening’ unprecedented in the history of mankind: I can see why that would worry these inbred heirs of old Anglo-Zionism, still stuck in the neo-colonial mindset of control/dominance. Particularly as it upsets the plans for global governance by an elite ‘free from traditional values’ as he put it – or psychopaths as they are more accurately known.
This is why I too am inclined to concern. Psychpaths are clearly at the helm of corporations, institutions – particularly media .and government – there are clear indicators in the push to legalize prostitution, pervert the course of childhood through sexualisation, fraudulent ‘science’ promoting GMOs, stifling of dissent/critical analysis through legal means, abnormal levels of secrecy in treaty arrangements, blackmail through pathological levels of surveillance and much more.
Which makes me wonder how much of our assumptions are naive. Lord Acton said ‘great men are bad men.’ It’s certainly a partial truth, although by ‘great’ I would say he meant power-holders.
He also said ‘power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.’ Never before has this been more true.
On a happier note. French neo-colonialism has backtracked on Syria – they will no longer support Daesh, but the Syrian Aram Army. Though they avoid mention of Assad, they agree to a *mutual* deal on transitional government that respects the unity and sovereignty of the Syrian people.
It maybe as the names of the architects become more widely known, and their sectarian ‘divide and conquer’ tactics become more exposed, they fear real threats to themselves. The chain of command is psychologically necessary in extremis, but why let it get to that point in the first place?
If the military ‘question more’ too, the whole edifice tumbles down.
Lets hope they do.
The most sure and cheapest way for Russia to survive-without spending arms and ammunition on fighting so many fronts-is to give a stern warning and ultimatum to england the main evil and plotter of all major wars-that unless england refrains from interfering in Russian interests-, Russia will massively nuke england to ash heap.
that will stop all evil doing in world because us does not fight for black americans, italian, german americans and no not even for Jewish americans-it fights fort the interests of English ace only because americans have internalized that they re not free of england but a satellite or special friend of that evil country england.
all from persistent British media propaganda and british infested holloywood.(all third rate films get Oscar as long as they have British input there).
hence attacking england and destroying that evil nation at first seconds and minutes is the best Russian strategy in any ensuing war which is coming even if Russia doesn’t want war.
Nah, nuking geography won’t get rid of Dr. Evil.
War is coming, its just a question of when. Five years, a Decade, two? but its coming.
America is the proverbial irresistible force and Russia the immovable object and they are going to meet sooner or later.
Dear Saker, re your: “One more thing: the Russians consider the areas of deployment of the Iskanders a state secret”. While that might be technically true, in that the locations may not have been announced officially by the MoD, they are certainly well known. The Russian Wikipedia entry for Iskander (https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/Искандер_(ОТРК) gives them as follows:
.
.
Luga (south west of St. Petersburg), Birobizhan (near Khabarovsk), Krasdodar, Shuya (near Ivanovo), and Orenburg, 12 PU’s (launch units) each. If you drill down into the footnotes, they generally lead to a news story, in Vsglyad, RIA Novosti, wherever. I didn’t take the time to trace the original sources, or even read the news stories beyond their headlines, but they seem authoritative.
What about the Bush Doctrine and First Strike “Limited Nuclear Tactical Warfare.”
Global Research is a Canada-controlled “alternative” media rag.
As a Canada media outlet, they are part of the Anglo American Empire, though they purport to oppose it.
All Anglophone media should be treated with skepticism, even those who offer some critical analysis that goes against mainstream media propaganda.
They pull in articles from other places, without too much bias in selection. They have had Paul Craig Roberts there and also once I think The Saker. Always check the author, in tiny writing under the headline.
Pride goes before the fall..
American People , after decades of fighting low tech enemies , now hardened in their mind that they can now defeat anyone on the cheap , and quick..
They think every war will be quick and easy like the Gulf war 1 & 2
It is different when they faced opponents that dont want to quit and an opponent that willing to take losses..
American military today , is like a boxer who carefully selected his opponent to ensure his win.. and when he face a real opponent he will got he pasting of his life..
The ‘don’t panic’ picture for this article looks just like Soros, or, with the skirt, maybe Merkel
This has an interesting echo in an article on OffGuardian recently, which suggested WW3 would not have to be fought in reality just threatened with enough intensity that people would welcome any amount of global government in the name of “averting Armageddon”
WW3 – this summer’s blockbuster?
Just wonder if some of this induced panic is cynical and intentional for reasons beyond demonising Russia?
I am obviously naive but
What is left out of the analysis is the increasing probability of “mistakes”. Increase tension, increased likelihood… The stakes for everybody exceed any rationality involved. You can analyze and “understand” the probable mind set and motivations of the adversaries and conclude that “it just can’t happen”. The nature of “mistakes” puts them beyond any of that. There won’t be any “do overs”.
If more of the populace especially that of the US are alarmed by the situation that would be a good thing. Unfortunately, an apparent popular reaction, due to misinformation and boogey man creation is to circulate petitions demanding that the US government act preemptively using nuclear weapons. The mindset alone there is frightening!
Our leaders are Not planning on nuking Russia. They are planning on allowing the US to get Nuked by Russia (research PDD-60). They will allow Russia to nuke the US in oder to forever eliminate them as a world power. The leaders know this is coming and have built massive and even luxurious bumkers in Colorado, DC and other places. The bunkers hidden iunder the Denver airport was the reason for massive cost overruns on the construction of the airport. For much more detailed information read, “World Affairs Brief, Strategic Threats of the decade.” by Joel Skpousen. I have read his reports for several years and they are spot on. You can also see him on U-Tube. Ths is NOT a joke or someone talking out of order. Just like they did in WW2 we are being set up tpo take a fall. Government always gets more money and power in war time. This is always what Governments desire.
No one is nuking anyone nukes don’t work period.
