I love the American expression “Hope for the best, prepare for the worst, and settle for anything in the middle” and since no halfway clear picture is coming out of the combat operations taking place in Novorussia, I think that this is the approach we should use.
Hope for the best is easy: the Novorussian resistance beats back the Nazi forces.
But what is the worst which can happen?
The worst which can happen is that a lot of Novorussian defenders get killed, that the towns of Slaviansk, Kramatorsk, Krasnyi Liman and others will get basically flattened and most of their inhabitants killed, that the road between Donetsk and Lugansk gets cut-off by the Ukies and that Ukie forces enter deep inside these two cities.
I have to be honest here, there is a pretty good chance that all of the above will happen in the next 24 hours.
If that happens, I would like to remind you all that entering into a city is one thing, taking control of it is quite another. Think Beirut, think Grozny, think Baghdad, think Fallujah, think Gaza, think Bint Jbeil. Even if Poroshenko announces that Donetsk and Lugansk have “fallen”, this will be only a empty statement on par with Dubya’s “mission accomplished”. What will *really* happen is that the type of warfare taking place will change. Not only will it change, but the new (urban) type of warfare will almost completely negate the current huge advantage in aviation, artillery and armor of the Ukie side. So if these cities “fall” – please do not despair.
I hope that Novorussians will be able to resist the Ukie attack, but I also know that by all accounts the kind of firepower the junta is using now is truly huge – we are dealing with a merciless and massive attack with everything the junta could muster and we have to accept that the Novorussian Defense Forces might have to retreat deeper into the cities or even go underground. While heroic for sure, it is not smart to stay in the open when your enemy is using Smerch and Uragan MRLS against you or even the building you are in. During the first Chechen war the Chechen retreated deeply inside Grozny and did not even bother defending the outskirts, in part because the city center buildings were far stronger than the flimsy houses in the suburbs. I never studied the layout of the cities of Lugansk and Donetsk, but if they are typical of the way the Soviets liked to build, then retreating into the city center and giving up the suburbs would probably make sense.
The first defensive option is to let the Ukies enter the suburbs and then cut them off, envelop (surround) them, and then attack them. If that works, great! But if the Ukies clear the way with massive sustained strikes and flatten their way in, then it will become necessarily to switch to “plan B” and retreat deeper into the cities. If the Ukie advance is multi-pronged and too fast, or if the city center defenses were not adequately prepared (for whatever reason), then plan “C” is to go more or less underground and switch to an active mobile defense centered on short but intense ambushes followed by immediate retreats.
I am not saying that this will happen, I have not heard from Juan or Gleb yet, but I think that I ought to prepare you for the worst, should it happen.

Another interesting conversation that “somehow” was taped and went public…
Hackers claim to have cracked open correspondence between top Ukrainian officials about rebellious moods brewing among troops sent to fight the self-defense forces of the breakaway Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics in the east. The screenshots of the messages acting Defense Minister Mikhail Koval and Attorney General Vitaly Yarema exchanged on June 20 have been posted on the Internet.
[…]
Koval: “There are other ideas… Relatives…, well, you know where. We will proclaim them enemies of Ukraine, separatists and so on.”
Yarema: “Don’t you fear the consequences?”
Koval: “No. They are confused. Can’t self-organize. The soldiers won’t back them. We will promise to demobilize them a couple of months earlier. We will confiscate arms. Plus we will work with their families as usual. That will be enough.”

Chechens could hide in the forests and go the mountains. Where will the Novorussians go? Into the mines?
@xiongnu: Chechens could hide in the forests and go the mountains. Where will the Novorussians go? Into the mines?
That is mostly a myth. The Russians had an easier time smashing the Chechens in the mountains and forests than in the urban areas. As for Novorussia, it is what the military call “mixed terrain” which allows for a mobile time of guerrilla warfare (as the Germans and French discovered to their horror during their invasions). And always remember, there is a border with Russia on the East and the South. That is an *ideal* geography to resist.
Things will get a lot worse before they get better, but they *will* get better!

Powerful and hopeful speech by Pablo Iglesias, candidate of the European United Left for president of the European Parliament.
He has begun recalling the antifascist strugle both in Spain and in Europe we are proud. In the end, already out of time, he has been cut but he has sent a message of hope for all tha peoples in Europe and the world:
“I want to send my last words to the public and the people of Europe who have taken to the streets in the years to defend social justice and democracy. To the millions who have said enough in European markets, I want to say that you are proud, democratic heart of Europe. Hold high the banner of dignity. The peoples of Europe have gone through worse situations and we rocked despots. I do not know if today we can not wrest the presidency of this parliament to the grand coalition but if you keep pushing us assure you that I will win. The future is ours.”

Tymchuk boasting that the scale and organisation of Ukie attack is much better this time. But self-defence must have also grown and organised in the last week
Having Russia next door is a huge factor in favour of the Novorussian forces. It is very difficult to put down a revolt when the rebels can cross the border, re-supply and recoup in safety, and then come back over the border to fight. No one on the NATO side is seriously going to consider pursuing rebels into Russia or hitting their supply lines just over the Russian border.
Cryptome claims all Snowden files will be published in July to avert a war
http://rt.com/usa/169700-cryptome-war-snowden-docs/
“All of the National Security Agency files accessed by former contractor Edward Snowden could be published in the month of July if vaguely worded predictions tweeted this week from the digital library site Cryptome prove to be correct…”
Posting this with a qualifier. Young (Cryptome) is anti-Russian. I have not looked in on the site in quite a while, but material there about Russian subjects was completely in line with the Israeli-American propaganda memes and total rubbish. It wasn’t leaked info or documents, but propagandist manure from MSM or alike affiliated bloggers and such disinformation specialists. For that reason, I’ve long had a suspicion Young is not on the level.
I think I will despair when I see live video of flag raising over Novorossiya by the Ukies. Until that happens, most of the “news” are propaganda.
Surely, the brave, outnumbered militia will take some horrific blows. But the damage so far appears to be to clear out citizens, to lower morale of the pro-Liberty Novorossians. Starving, light chemical attacks, hammering schools and hospitals, dismantling war memorials and water sources are not without meaning. This is preparation for an ending.
However, between this tactic and strategic victory stand 20,000 plus fighters and volunteers and Mother Russia with her own ideas of a future for East Ukraine.
This war is not without infinite resources on the Russian side. Everything is possible to secure Ukraine, East, South, Crimea, and Odessa. And nothing has been taken off the game board. Nothing.
I don’t see Putin taking a geopolitical defeat, a strategic national security defeat, a psychological defeat because some bozos in Kiev think they have NATO behind them.
They have goons in the field. The conscripts they need on the ground to take a city don’t exist. The tanks they need to take and hold a city without losing half the first day and the rest eventually is beyond their capacity without direct NATO resupply.
This about a stable, secure Mother Russia. Putin and the General Staff understand the true threat of Kiev, Maidan, Nuland, Biden and Obama.
Find me a decent General who understands warfare who wants to be Kiev in East Ukraine right now.
An Army is about to be destroyed.
Article by Ukrainian journalist Vladislav Gulevich:
According to [Oleg Lyashko], half of the Azov fighters are former convicts. Liashko said that it’s better to deal with convicts who are ready to fight than with policemen who refuse to shoot at Ukrainians. The other half are members of Ukrainian ultranationalistic organizations. The members of the other battalions are no better.
The Azov fighters say a special prayer before going to the front line. The text of the prayer has already provoked the indignation of Polish priest Tadeusz Isakowicz-Zalesski, a well-known opponent of Ukrainian nationalistic ideology. Instead of God and angels, the prayer mentions Ukraine and the leaders of the Ukrainian pro-Nazi movement in WWII, Stepan Bandera and Roman Shukhevich: “Ukraine, Mother of Heroes, come to my heart… to retaliate for… the heroic death of heroes… Shukhevich, Bandera…”. Both Bandera and Shukhevich are known to be responsible for massacres committed against the Polish and Jewish populace of Western Ukraine under Nazi occupation in the 1940s.

“…Robert Oulds, Director of the Bruges Group, an independent all-party think tank, told Radio VR that President Putin spoke about how he wanted to be engaging with the rest of the world, but pointed out that the US, supported by the European Union, is still following the containment policy, as he described it, that existed during the Cold War. And in this, America has not moved on from the Cold War era and is still trying to take actions against Russia. But Vladimir Putin was clearly drawing line in this end and said it has been pushed far enough and he would take further actions if, indeed, Russia’s interests were continued to be threatened by the EU and the US.
VR’s political analyst Dmitry Babich also compared the current Western rhetoric with that of the Cold War, but said it is even worse and certainly much more belligerent.
“For example, Obama talks about complete diplomatic isolation of Russia,” he said. “I do not remember Carter or Reagan saying that. And no one could even remotely imagine a civil war on the territory of Ukraine, which is, I would say, a Slavic heartland…”

Robert Hunziker on the “virtues” of neoliberalism:
Socialism and collectivism are dead.
Thus, as a way forward for society at large, nation-states have become increasingly subservient to the forces of neoliberalism as the dicta of free markets and privatization and commoditization of everything from parking meters to people takes root around the world.
This remarkable politico-socio-economic revolution has effectively reverted humankind back to the era of serfdom as today’s wealth defines the strata of society along the same lines as feudalism during the Middle Ages (1066-1485) with very little space available at the top.
This obvious truism is followed by a telling example from none other than Chicago herself:
Several years ago the City of Chicago privatized its parking meters. Ever since, meter rates went up as much as four-fold (oh, please!), resulting in an embarrassment of riches, as some meters, unable to hold so much change, jammed along with other problems, like failed receipts. Chicagoans protested but to no avail. The city’s 36,000 parking meters belong to a private group, which paid the city a measly $1.2 billion (equivalent to approximately $1.20 per meter per day for a 75-year lease during the Daley administration. Today, almost the entire one-time payout of $1.2 billion to the city is gone from its coffers, and what do they really have to show for it?
In retrospect, the purchase/sale of Chicago’s parking meters may have been a bargain (do parking meters in Chicago bring in more than $1.20/day?) for the private hedge fund group as Mayor Daley caved in to the abyss of the “shock doctrine” syndrome, as described by Naomi Klein in her excellent book, The Shock Doctrine, The Rise of Disaster Capitalism (Knopf Canada, 2007), which argues the point that Milton Friedman’s free market policies are advantageously rushed through former governmental bureaucracies when a nation-state’s citizens are subject to shock from disasters, upheavals, or invasion.

US on the wrong side of history for supporting Israeli atrocities in Palestine – lawyer
http://voiceofrussia.com/2014_07_01/US-on-the-wrong-side-of-history-for-supporting-Israeli-atrocities-in-Palestine-expert-2097/
“…Israel has blamed Hamas, a militant Islamist organization, for abducting and murdering the youths. In a statement released on Monday, June 30, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu asserted that “Hamas is responsible” and vowed that the organization will pay, describing those who committed the hideous crime as “beasts”. He voiced the same sentiment days after the boys were abducted.
It is hardly surprising then that the majority of those detained during the search operation are alleged Hamas members. The militant group, classified as terrorist by Israel, the US, and European Union, has neither confirmed nor denied the allegations. It warned, however, that Israel “will open the gates of hell” if the punitive operation continues.
Overall, search operation lasted 18 days and saw more than 400 Palestinians arrested, hundreds of homes destroyed while five Palestinians lost their lives. Meanwhile, Israelis have rallied behind the families of the dead youths in a display of national unity.
The Israeli cabinet held an emergency meeting on Monday and plans to reconvene on Tuesday, a government official said. Whatever its decision, there is every indication that the anti Palestinian military operation is likely to continue. Indeed, early on Tuesday Israeli aircraft bombed dozens of sites on the Gaza Strip. Palestinian medics reported that a Palestinian was killed during an arrest raid in the West Bank. Israeli military razed the homes of Marwan Qawasmeh and Amer Abu Eishe, prime suspects named for the abduction…”

From looking over the reports, it appear that the nazis took heavy losses, but were unable to accomplish much of anything tactically.
In today’s Oceania, “freedom” and “democracy” have to be considered as vocabularies from the Newspeak dictionary, 10th edition. Andre Damon on paramilitary police forces and excessive violence:
The militarization of domestic policing is one symptom of a deeply dysfunctional society. While the political establishment never loses the opportunity to declare there is no money for social needs—education, pensions, health care, nutrition—billions of dollars are made available to equip the police with the latest instruments of violence.
In the United States, every social problem is treated as a police matter. The United States imprisons more people than all other developed countries combined. This monstrous system, which sweeps up hundreds of thousands of people every year, is crowned by the continuing practice of capital punishment, which is banned throughout the rest of the developed world.
Police increasingly believe, with good reason, that they can act with impunity. Recent months have seen a spate of police killings. Those that happen to have been caught on video—like the March shooting of a homeless man in Albuquerque, New Mexico—have provoked widespread popular outrage. But such acts are regular occurrences in the United States.

As horrifying as the situation is on the ground, it is more horrifying in the media.
It is, frankly, impossible to read an account of what is happening that does not imply or state that the destruction and killing that is occurring is being committed by the Novorussians.
I’ve never been exposed to this before… but of course I have as has everyone else. It is just that never before has it been possible to know the truth.
You ask, How do I know what is the truth? Well, in the words of Martin Balsam, “My mother used to say, ‘If it don’t gel, it ain’t aspic. And this ain’t gelin’.” The articles try very hard. They keep repeating that the “rebels” have three tanks that drove across the border from Russia. Three tanks can flatten cities throughout the Southeast? These articles expect that their readers will read them quickly with their minds prepared to believe the line they spin.
It’s like going to church. Your mind has been prepared. No matter what is said, you’re going to believe it.
And it’s been done before, on a variety of subjects. It’s just that never before has the other side been a superpower. Oh yes, I realize that feeds into the meme. Russians are causing all the trouble.
But where are the green uniforms?
It ain’t aspic.

I see the fascist supporters at Google are blocking the ANNA news broadcasts. Probably at the request of the American State Dept.
I have been the last holdout, when everyone else has been calling for a Russian military intervention. Alexandr Dugin has been saying it all the time, so has Mark Sleboda. Nikolai Starikov was long against but he too advocated intervention weeks ago. Even the Vineyardsaker who has been warning of the trap had his weak moment and called for intervention.
I have now made up my mind: PUTIN, SEND IN THE TANKS!
1) Putin was right to not intervene earlier. The three month delay has earned Russia enormous political capital. As “Anonymous” said on Saker’s blog: “invasion is when Russia enters in Ukraine after 3 days of shooting. Liberation is when Russia enters in Ukraine after 3 months of bloody mess.”
The one week ceasefire has further strengthened the position of Novorossiya. Poroshenko went to war against the explicit requests by Merkel and President Holland.
A limited “humanitarian” intervention in Donbass tomorrow would not even make the front page of New York Times. The war has moved on to Iraq, where the US has not yet been able to decide which side it wants to be on.
2) Nothing Putin has said so far gives any hint on Russia’s true intention. Putin has to play “good cop” and appease the Western leader. His advisers have done the barking. What will Putin do when zero hour – the time of decision arrives? Will he risk WWIII and save Novorossiya? Will he abandon the Russian nation? No one knows.
One thing we know: Russia has set the moral, political and military foundation for intervention. Once Putin nods the troops will move in.
3) Zero hour is now. Donbass held on today, but it may not hold on tomorrow. Putin needs one full news cycle day of genocidal horrors in Ukraine before he can act. The perfect time to cross the border is at 2 am. – in less than two hours. If I do not see a column of fresh T-64 tanks on the street webcams in Lugansk by 5 am tomorrow I will start worrying.
4) Russia cannot just grab Donbass as a consolation prize. It needs a permanent political solution for Novorossiya and all of the Ukraine. In any overt military action Russia must also liberate Kharkov and Odessa and everything in between. It must secure Kiev and drive out the Maidanites and Nazis. It must even somehow pacify Galicia and western Ukraine. To do this it must attack on four or five fronts at the same time. Time is not quite ripe for the overall solution.
Right after I posted this on Facebook I realized it would not be a good idea to act overtly. Everything should be done covertly.
There never was a column of T-64 tanks in Lugansk on the morning of July 2, 2014. Instead, the street webcam showed a a lonely Strela 10 anti-aircraft missile system pass at 4:03 am, three minutes behind my estimate, but well within the one hour reserve I had allowed “Putin”.
Strelkov left Slavyansk the following morning. The Russian army he was waiting for never arrived.
In the spring of 2014 half of Ukraine was hoping for the Russian army to arrive. The other half and all of the army was willing to surrender to the Russian army. This was made clear in the negotiations between Strelkov and the army. It would have hurt their pride to surrender to a ragtag group of miners and tractor drivers.
Well done Cybermarket !!!

«I would like to remind you all that entering into a city is one thing, taking control of it is quite another. Think Beirut, think Grozny, think Baghdad, think Fallujah, think Gaza, think Bint Jbeil». It seems you are now seeing things the way, I think, The Kremlin does. Putin knows well, through his experience with Chechnya, the difference between entering and controlling a city. Let’s hope Donbass people have the strength to hold against the genocide attacks, even better, let’s hope they manage to expel the nazis out of their homeland. Time flies, and sooner or later, Ukes regime will start collapsing.

Viktoria Panfilova on the search for a new US-base in Central Asia:
Representatives of the U.S. State Department and other American agencies have, over the course of the past little while, been visiting countries of Central Asia, where they are negotiating the use of certain military facilities.
After losing the Manas airbase in Kyrgyzstan, the center for U.S. military presence in the region may shift to Uzbekistan. And all this is despite the fact that, the U.S. has had a negative experience with regards to military cooperation with Tashkent. In 2001, the Americans were granted the Uzbek military airbase at Khanabad just outside of Karshi in order to conduct their anti-terrorists operation in Afghanistan.
but then something happened that changed the Uzbeks’ minds:
However, in 2005, after the events in Andijan, the U.S. was expelled from the country “for supporting local radicals and international terrorism.” In response, Washington imposed a series of sanctions against Tashkent. However, after five years, the United States, realizing what they have lost, began to seek the restarting official cooperation with Tashkent.
As usual, not showing “respect” to the Mafia Don results in harassment with “sanctions”, in order to “maintain credibility”.

I hope B’s view @ MoA will prevail. In his piece on the Ukraine /EU Association Agreement, he said:
”The temporary truce in Ukraine will soon be over and the Ukrainian army will then try to squash the insurgency by all possible means. It is unlikely to achieve that.
Today the coup president signed an EU association agreement in Brussels. The preferred trade status with Russia will thereby be over and the Ukraine will fall into a deep depression. Its industry is not competitive against western European ones and it can not be sustained without the Russian markets. The most knowledgeable engineers and workers, especially from the big weapon producers, will move to Russia and leave the Ukrainian industry to rot.”

But on the other side, it is a failure of the European diplomacy, because it will deteriorate the situations in these countries and this can be a burden for the foreign policy and for the neighbourhood in the east periphery of the EU.
But what kind of obligations does the EU take on under these agreements?
The EU has to open its market for the export of these countries. But at the same time, the agreement will allow the EU observers to interfere in the internal affairs, in the legislation of these countries and, therefore, erect the kind of soft dictatorship in the economic affairs and legislation in these countries.
And this is irreversible, as far as I understand, isn’t it?
As the examples of other countries in the Balkans and elsewhere have shown, this cannot be reversed. So, the sovereignty of these countries is undermined by the EU soft power.
As you’ve mentioned the Balkans, I remember that when the issue of Serbia closing a similar kind of agreement was on the agenda, the EU made a condition for Belgrade to put its domestic situation into order. So, how come they have signed this kind of agreement with Ukraine, a country where civil war is under way?
Yes, this is a paradox. But the EU follows the directives of the American superpower. So, there is no coherent strategy. But the strategy is shaped according to the Western interests. And in the case of Serbia the interest was to push down Serbia and let Serbia follow the rules of the Western puppet masters.
[.]
Ukraine and the putsch regime in Kiev will be a burden for the European foreign policy, because the trouble in the east of the country is so heavy that the situation will not calm down and the debts of the Kiev regime are so high, that the EU has to sponsor this regime to stabilize it a little bit, not regarding the situation in the east, but the regime and Poroshenko are also threatened by the internal rivals, especially from the Right Sector and the Svoboda Party. And this will become very expensive for Brussels and for Berlin as the biggest taxpayers in the EU.”

Elsewhere I read we should circle mid July on our calendars. And do read Mr. Putin’s speech to foreign diplomats.

Our host said: Think Beirut, think Grozny, think Baghdad, think Fallujah, think Gaza, think Bint Jbeil.
Hunsdon: Stalingrad.
Let’s just be brutally honest.
If Russia can not protect Russian people in it’s own back yard, regardless of any kind of high politics, strategies, chess games, etc…, then it is really bad. This is not a question (and I fully understand Saker’s views, hopes and worries), of anything else, rather then just telling the world “stay out of my country, don’t kill Russian people under my nose”. If this can not be accomplished in Donetsk then what can Serbian and other Russophile people around the world expect. Sorry to say this but it is just the way it is. I would love to be proven wrong.
Those that think Putin is well advised to wait as long as possible before intervening in Ukraine are absolute fools- unwitting dupes of the monsters that rule the West. The West runs one major psychological ploy- namely telling the world that the West is the most decent, reasonable and civilised entity that Human History has yet produced. And sadly, far too many people fall for this psy-op ruse.
In truth, the longer Putin waits, the more sanctions will be imposed on Russia, no matter how Russia behaves. Worse, the zionist controlled mainstream media becomes more effective with time, both demonising Russia with constant repetition of carefully constructed ‘hate’ memes, and by moving its easily distracted audience away from the Ukraine to other, more ‘current’ world events.
When Russia finally enters its historic ethnic territories to protect the people there from NATO backed neo-Nazi death squads, the act will be successfully presented as an unjustified ‘invasion’ by every zionist news outlet. European and American politicians will have a free hand to classify present day Russia as more of a ‘threat’ than the old USSR during the worst periods of the ‘Cold War’.
However, consider what will be happening while Putin drags his feet, mistakenly thinking that the world will develop a ‘conscience’. NATO will flood the Ukraine with the ‘white’ mercenaries that were responsible for some of the worst atrocities during the recent Iraq invasion. And NATO will turn the neo-Nazi thugs from neighbouring nations into endless waves of new mercenaries- using the same tactic used to pour endless waves of Islamic mercenaries into Syria.
Time is on NATO’s side. Once the general public ‘believe’ what is happening in Ukraine is a full-blown legitimate ‘civil war’, the public will learn to take even the most extraordinary atrocities in the Ukraine for granted- just as they do with Syria. “A curse on both your houses” ploy- and this ploy works especially brilliantly with the citizens of the Anglo-Saxon nations.
If Putin, in some horrible history, concludes it is ‘too late’ to act, NATO will set fire to all the bordering European nations, spreading the neo-Nazi war in Ukraine as widely as possible, building a massive anti-Russian neo-Nazi movement- money is no object and the very worst military ‘toys’ will magically appear in all these spreading conflicts, with the hope that the terror groups that emerge will be emboldened enough to engage Russia on Russian territory with direct acts of terrorism.
If Putin believes wiser heads will prevail amongst those that rule the West, he has gone senile. Putin should consider how the USA manipulated Japan in the years leading to WW2. This isn’t a ‘moral’ comparison (Wartime Japan was utterly evil, whereas present day Russia is the innocent party) but a strategic one. All serious students of history know that ‘Pearl Harbour’ was a classic false-flag in the sense that the USA provoked Japan specifically to make Japan attack, and then ensured that the USA ‘stood down’ to allow the attack to occur unhindered. All so the USA could declare ‘total war’ against Japan and Germany (without Pearl Harbour, the USA would most certainly have entered the war, BUT constant anti-war debates in Congress would have seriously impeded the US war machine).
Likewise, Putin is being manipulated to engage Ukraine in a way that brings greatest advantage to the USA’s current military ambitions. Trying to ‘out-think’ the West simply means falling into their trap. Doing the right thing (immediately ending the conflict in Ukraine with overwhelming Russian military might, and helping Ukraine to split into new, stable, peaceful nations) is the ONLY way to possibly out-fox the West.
@Anonymous:If Russia can not protect Russian people in it’s own back yard
It all depends on what you mean by “can not”. In military terms, this is a no-brainer. It is in political terms that Putin has apparently decided that it was wiser not to intervene directly.
Kind regards,
The Saker

” Basmanny court of Moscow on Wednesday, July 2, will consider the petition of the investigation about the arrest in absentia Ukrainian oligarch, the Governor of Dnepropetrovsk region Igor Kolomoisky. This was told RIA Novosti the press Secretary of the court Anna Fadeeva.
It is expected that the application will consider at 10:00, host the meeting will be the judge Valentin Levashov.
Under Russian law, Kolomoisky may submit to the court a lawyer to defend their interests. If this does not happen, the court itself will overtake him defender of the nearest offices.
Earlier official representative of the Investigative Committee Vladimir Markin has informed, that in the near future the court will send the petition about the arrest in absentia, the acting head of the MIA of Ukraine Arsen Avakov.
on 18 June the RF IC started on Kolomoisky and Avakov criminal case, and a few days later declared them on the international wanted list. These people are accused of application of prohibited means and methods of warfare, murders and kidnappings, impeding the work of journalists.
Previously Kolomoisky said Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko that his unit would not comply with the ceasefire and will continue to destroy fighters defense of Donbass. And in the leadership of the Luhansk national Republic and does statedthat government forces are subject only to oligarchy, promising “still finish” militias.”
@ song, “Having Russia next door is a huge factor in favour of the Novorussian forces.”
This an excellent point. If the fight continues, eventually the non-combatants will, mostly, be safely evacuated. Ukraine can flatten Novorussia, but they will never overcome the well-motivated, well-supplied guerilla forces they will encounter in the rubble they’ve created. Shades of Stalingrad! With benfits!
I think Putin is making the right choice in holding back his own army.
More on Putin’s speech tuesday.
Путин проинструктировал российских дипломатов (Putin has instructed Russian diplomats)

Some excerpts:
” Putin stated that the world an increasing number of conflicts which Russia may suddenly encounter. He pointed out that to address them now “does not work, international law, elementary decency norms are not respected, triumphs principle of permissiveness”.
According to the President, the Ukrainian crisis is the consequence of the policy of containment of Moscow, which continued the West, despite the end of the cold war. As a result, in “Independent” under serious threat turned out to be rights of Russian-speaking citizens and all people who feel part of a “broad Russian world”. The manifestation of their protection, as noted by Putin, was the inclusion of Crimea in structure of Russia.
The head of state reminded the diplomats that to defend the rights of its citizens and ethnic Russian government is ready to apply the methods provided for by law and international standards, including military force.
Going back to the situation in Ukraine, Putin blamed the continuing violence in the South-East to Petro Poroshenko, who on the night of July 1, announced the termination of the ceasefire, which he previously extended. As the President noted, his Ukrainian counterpart to this point, “still had no direct relation to orders to take military action”. However now, according to the President, Poroshenko took on this responsibility to the full, and not only military but also political, that is much more important”.
Putin stated that Kyiv still speaks with militiamen in the language of ultimatums, and peace talks between the warring parties and has not begun.
According to Putin, is completely unacceptable Kiev behaves in relation to Russian journalists the President on the eve personally reminded Poroshenko. “In my opinion, is a purposeful work on the elimination of representatives of the press. It concerns both Russian and foreign journalists. Who’s afraid of objective information? Apparently, only those who commit a crime”, said the Russian leader.”
I think Putin is finalising the legal foundations he will use which will provide the core of his strategy. Poroshenko may find himself listed as a war criminal soon.

There is no reason whatsoever for Putin to trash Russia to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars for the sake of the Donbas.
There is a bigger, long game going on that is more important.

Putin and the Russian cabinet has been working overtime to “accommodate” the US/NATO/EU axis. I know there is some hope this is a pro-Novorussia strategy, but there have also been many warnings to take it at face value – that he’s meant everything he’s said about “descalation” quite literally and that there is no grand strategy, except to protect Russian’s global bank deposits and investors. . . The capitalist class will always choose the global financial system (and their loot from it) over, literally, anything else. There is no hope or help in Capitalist Sugar Daddy’s . Nationalism is only a tool of oligarchs to divide the people. the people NOT EVEN ONE of these Kiev Oligarchs cares for the well being of the people they delude and mislead, or hopes for anything less (or more)than to simply be included (in some small way) in looting the global system of exploitation. Nationalism is a forlorn hope. The best hope is in a politically independent movement of the global working class. Don’t despair, but look for real hope.

I feel the same way but I still have faith in Vlad. One of the reasons I came to this blog was to get more info his character from people who might know more than I, and so far I’ve been impressed.
There’s nothing I’d like better now than to see the Russians sweep in and scare NATO all the way back to Berlin if not out of Europe entirely.
There’s nothing we can do about it. We might as well just have faith that the one leader who can possibly make a difference – will.
The USA is definitely in desperate need of isolation by seclusion to North America where it will hopefully, in my lifetime, be dissolved.
And I live there.
Putin has intervened, is intervening and will win.
You really think the slingshots and peashooters the East were using two months ago suddenly were replaced with MANPADS, anti-tank missiles and coordinated Intel and secure communications from some Radio Shack outlet and mail order gun dealer?
Putin has boots and brains on the ground. He has political and military operatives running things. The militia is reinforced with experienced volunteers with real combat credentials.
Supplies and ratlines for egress and ingress have been established for evacuees, manpower and material. Not just at border crossings.
Putin is going to win this war. The facts are on the ground. This is a rebellion he did not encourage but he is controlling it and commanding it now that it exists.
The militia has been bled, so now they have unity and courage, and they have tactics that are working well. Death is not shocking to them any longer. The Ukie Army is frightened by combat.
Get real. Russia must protect its flank even if these people weren’t Russians. He’d be working with whoever was on the other side of the border.
One other thing, geniuses who think chopping at Putin is making any sense. The best defense of Crimea is to control the SouthEast. So, Novorossiya is important to the West flank of Russia and Crimea.
Ukraine cannot even command the airspace over Donbass. They will soon be targets in an RPG shooting gallery. Tanks sitting in holes with sandbags and tires all around lobbing shells into kindergartens and hospitals are criminal not military assets in some grand mobile strategy.
Plan B may have a few more days to unfold, but I’m betting that the more assets are brought to Donbass, the worse disaster Kiev will suffer. In the weeks ahead, many of those tanks and APC’s will be flying white flags not blue and yellow.
Consider the following with what Putin said about Poroshenko tuesday.
Poroshenko made a choice: blood, chaos and hell
http://translate.yandex.net/tr-url/ru-en.ru/voicesevas.ru/news/yugo-vostok/2381-poroshenko-sdelal-vybor-krov-haos-i-preispodnyaya.html
“Hope, however, a very little, still glimmered. The hope was that official Kiev (although any formality in capturing the power of the coup?!) come to its senses and extend the ceasefire.
Yes, the ceasefire was useless as a Fig leaf, which Poroshenko could cover only one eye, but he – this mode is demonstrated at least in words, the desire of the world to solve the problem of spreading of Ukraine.
Now the chance is missed, the only chance that could be used by Ukrainians as proof of their civilization and humanity.
Deliberately selected the blood, chaos and destruction of hell. Gangster Poroshenko signed obituary its rule with the bastard ideology, government officials, and cursing obscenities, let saliva and leaping, like a flock of goats to tune of skilful shepherd, with parades sexual perverts, who Kiev attack worse Baty.
Again beat “Grads” on Snow and Saur-Grave, from the height of the trenches militias are falling bombs, powerful howitzers crumble house in Slavyansk, where the local population has remained mostly the elderly – those who have nowhere to go.
The junta prepares new operations in Lugansk, Donetsk, will be erased from the face of the earth Slavyansk and Kramatorsk, who dared rebel against banderovskoe dominance in this area of the Russian world.
Blood covered with thick strokes Poroshenko, covers his eyes, ears, mouth, all broad face, changing the way the obrazinoy, gradually depriving it of human characteristics.
What will go down in history confectioner-President of Waltman-Poroshenko? With genocide against the population of the former Ukraine as a murderer of children along with pastor Turchynov, non-traditional rusofoba Avakov and recruited spy Nalyvaychenko.
Live to the Tribunal? Not the fact.
But it is clear that many of buggered and Nazi pride, jeering at the moment in Kiev, will run as their idol Mazepa under threat of Russian bayonets, so dear to the West. But the West will not accept them, will regurgitate as unnecessary, used a rag, fit into the fire history.
Well-known blogger and conflicts Al-Murid gave his assessment of what is happening in Ukraine. Not difficult to accept: “Preparations for the genocide completed what to draw. Special attention should be paid to the previously mentioned Lyashko turnover concerning the fact that the army will not take the bulk of the fighting, but “terrorists” will suffer great losses. If understood literally, then we can talk only about the use of weapons of mass destruction or for something a little different from him.
Legalized already “Grad”, incendiary mines and chemical weapons directly indicate, which will be achieved defeat the living forces of the enemy, which now includes all the living. The only thing not yet been used – Napalm that given the special love Bandera to fire-show, even surprising”.

Agree with your point on the legal case Putin is going to mount against the criminals in Kiev.
Meanwhile, I really don’t think any Moscow politics or pressure matter to Putin or the Russian military and FSB. They will do whatever they need to keep NATO out of Ukraine, to protect all of Russia and Russian people anywhere they can.
These cries for him to act are agitprop or misplaced emotion. No one wants to see the death and destruction. But there are realities Russia must face. The Hegemon could unleash military strikes, sabotage, and economic sanctions at no cost to itself.
Putin wants this struggle close. It gives him and Russia every advantage. And since it is clear that the Ukies cannot win, Putin wins. And when it is calculated as I see it, he wins at very little cost.
The people in Donbass would be driven from their homes, scattered to the winds, killed in their beds, whatever the madness in Kiev wanted to do even if there was no rebellion. The plan was ethnic cleansing. So there was always going to be death and destruction in East Ukraine.
This is better for Russia. The losses are in the East but they would have occurred nonetheless. Russia has a small, manageable refugee problem. Otherwise, it would have had a huge problem and enormous social expenses it cannot yet afford.
Putin has a clear understanding of everything. And I believe he will extract justice from the perpetrators. Everything in his track record so indicates.
He has a record of actions, policies, words spoken and prepared speeches that are historically consistent. He is clear and easy to understand. He is precise, patient and deadly with sworn enemies of Russia and Russian people.
He has the most normal mental and psychological balance of any leader of the world since Eisenhower. He is rooted in his religion, culture and love of Russia and Russians.
The war pains us. But Putin will turn it as he turned Crimea. NATO is a chaos machine. He is throwing sugar into their fuel lines.
There is apparently going to be a big release of new Snowden documents around midnite Eastern time which will show among other things America’s plans to attack Russia. Preemptively.

Bakunin,
Our police act with impunity everywhere. Used to be “police violence” was a common cry and the departments would at least have to scramble a bit to save face. Now, for some reason — even though the violence is no longer aimed “just” at minorities — people seem to accept it.

The tide may — just may — be turning against us. Not only did Kerry have a rather unsuccessful Middle East trip, but Hungary too is going for South Stream? Perhaps the tipping point is near. It’s certainly time.
Petri Krohn,
It’s just awful sitting back and watching this happen. But your fourth point kind of negates the first three, doesn’t it? We’re all waiting for Putin as if he’s Superman and can stop the Ukies and the US and make everything right but while the tide may finally be turning, we’re not yet at a point where enough world leaders will actually dare stand up to us. So, even though Russia could certainly clean up the Donbass and even roll right through Kiev to Galicia — what would she do then with a population *perhaps* right now evenly divided on whether to hate Russians or not? And of course, the even bigger constraint is that, with all our operatives everywhere and our tendency to play dirty, there would be hell to pay both economically and in terms of terrorist attacks, weird explosions and God only knows what else.
It’s a horrible decision to have to make. I certainly don’t envy him.
Craig Paul Roberts
From the interview to VOR
“I think one unintended consequence of Washington’s brutal use of power is that it causes the NATO countries to realize that they are being driven towards a conflict by a government that is essentially insane and taking a fantastic risk with everyone’s life and with the planet.
So, perhaps, the realization by others of Washington’s danger to life is what Putin is hoping for. He is hoping that the more Russia is reasonable and not provocative, and doesn’t take provocative actions, the greater the chance that the German Government or the French Government will realize that Washington’s agenda does not serve mankind, and that Europe will take some steps to extract themselves and their countries, and their people from Washington’s control, in which case the American empire falls apart.
So, I think that’s what Putin is betting on. He is not a fool, certainly not, and he realizes the threat of a war, he can see it. And so, this is probably why he’s asked the Russian Duma to rescind the permission to use the Russian forces in Ukraine. He is trying to show the Germans, the French – look, it is not me, it is not us.
I hope he succeeds. The future of the world really depends on whether Putin’s use of diplomacy can prevail over Washington’s use of force.”

Exactly! Covert aid is reaching the NDf & they will survive.
This a weird war. The NDF is fighting back way “too nice” .
I’m not calling on them to “do the Nazi thing”. However, to get the invader/occupier to leave is to inflict as many casualties on them all day, every day. Make it very expensive to continue their OPS.
The other option is that the NDF needs to do is find “a few attack helicopters along side of the road”. This would be a dramatic game changer.

“The Russian Federation has filed a complaint with the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons after they were used by the Ukrainian armed forces against their civilian population.
White phosphorus and chloropicrin have been deployed by the Ukrainian army since June 11.
In 2004, the United States had used this weapon in Fallujah (Iraq); in 2006 Israel followed suit in Lebanon and in Gaza in 2008-09.”
Am I the only one who would like to see a Dootlittle Raid type of strike by the NAF? Not just a small act of sabotage on the road to Kharkov, but something spectacular in Kiev. Something to bring this war home to the West Ukraine besides the transit of corpses from the front.

You are an idiot.
Like it or not, the West and Russia are connected in many ways, and money is just one of them. A full on military invasion before now, and even now, would allow for an economical and political isolation of Russia a la North Korea and play right into the wrong hands.

I am wondering something. There are rumors on the net, which RT actually published an article yesterday on, that Snowden is going to release more documents this month in order to prevent a huge war.
This got me wondering about this whole careful way Putin has been orienting himself in the recent weeks.
I wonder if Snowden revealed some very damning plans to him earlier in the year which caused him to hedge his bets and navigate more carefully than ever. Which would also explain Ukraine and its illogical actions as the provocation as it seemed to us, normals.
You may want to do a bit of research on this:

It would make sense, wouldn’t it? I think a new blog entry is in order:)

Something to take heart from:
“This year, from 9 to 11 May 2014 the great-grandchildren of the Archduke (Franz-Ferdinand) invited to Austria an advisor of Metropolitan Hilarion of the Church Outside Russia, together with the Myrrh-Giving icon of Tsar Nicholas II from Moscow. It was here that a miracle took place. On 10 May at the castle of Artstetten in Lower Austria, towering with its onion domes over the Danube, before members of the family, the akathist was read before the icon.
It was at this moment that ‘the background of the icon changed and the halo around the Tsar-Martyr’s head gave out rays of golden light; in turn his clothing shone and his face seemed as if it were alive, his mouth seemed to open and his lips moved as if he were speaking. His hand made the sign of the cross in blessing and a strong fragrance was given off; it seemed as though his figure was about to move forward from the background’. (Written by Princess Rosalia von Hohenberg). A deep impression was left on all present”.

The Saker, I noticed an interesting evolution of your thoughts:
The Saker on March 2, 2014: “The Ukrainian military: I am sure that you have heard that the Ukrainian military is now on maximal alert and is read to repel any Russian aggression. Guys, this is laughable. There IS NO UKRAINIAN MILITARY. There is a lot of old hardware lying around, there are a number of units with basically zero training and there are a few units of higher combat readiness. Do you know what that list is called in military terms? It’s called *TARGETS*.”

The Saker on June 8, 2014: “But something needs to be done in the next 24-48 hours and my Bosnian experience makes it very hard for me to live through these next couple of days.”
http://vineyardsaker.blogspot.com/2014/06/my-rant-tonight-okay-i-will-try-to.html
The Saker on June 17, 2014: “My personal belief is that a Russian intervention is imminent.”
http://vineyardsaker.blogspot.com/2014/06/the-time-has-come-for-putin-to-make.html
The Saker on June 28, 2014: “… my disgust is directed at that sorry pseudo-ethnicity called “the Ukrainians” … Two things characterize these folks: they are phenomenally ignorant of pretty much everything, but especially of their own history, and their credulity is quite literally infinite. In other words – they are terminally stupid. As for their spiritual or cultural values, they don’t extend beyond what is shown on a typical commercial on TV. … “

A nice piece of cynicism by Poroshenko. On July 1, the members of OSCE voted 92 for, 30 against, 27 abstain on US Senator Benjamin Cardin’s resolution condemning Russia for its ‘Clear, Gross and Uncorrected Violations of Helsinki Principles’ in Ukraine. Once the vote is in, Poroshenko goes ahead with Plan B, unleashing the onslaught against Donbass.
I haven’t been able to find out who voted and how. Looking at the list of members, it seems to consist of the US and it’s stooges in the North and South hemisphere, along with Russia. The list of partners includes such pillars of democracy as Egypt, Israel and Afghanistan.
The Nazis in Ukraine are deranged with their hubris. They think the can flatten Moscow just as they are trying to flatten Donbass. Note the red/black Pravi Sektor arm badge. It also skips over their pathetic gutless combat skills as they are relying on long distance mortar/artillery bombardments.

The tide may — just may — be turning against us. Not only did Kerry have a rather unsuccessful Middle East trip, but Hungary too is going for South Stream? Perhaps the tipping point is near. It’s certainly time.”
Dearest Sister,
Yes True, the Tide Is Turning. Both Obama and Kerry are not fools, but scared shit for their lives. I believe both McCain and Graham are with them too.
You might think that I have lost my mind, but connect the dots.
Please pay my respect to Mr. Nora.
Blessed are Peace Makers, no matter how late.
Best regards,
Mohamed.

And sadly, far too many people fall for this psy-op ruse.”
> You are an idiot.
Nice piece of expression of opposite point of view.
> Like it or not, the West and Russia are connected in many ways, and money is just one of them. A full on military invasion before now, and even now, would allow for an economical and political isolation of Russia a la North Korea and play right into the wrong hands.
The West is not the Whole World! For Christ’s sake!
If it might be true what you said ’bout Russia, perhaps Russia pushed herself too much and too far in that direction? Now she’s hostage of her own decisions to join the West on the Western provisions?
Where do you see an error in the quote of another Anon? He wrote truth and only truth. You Western blackmail of Russia but you are unable to infer correct conclusions. Who’s the idiot then?
The Saker,
Will you ever admit Putin is a traitor or after tens of thousands are murdered by Ukrainian Nazis you will come to admit it?

You are. The game is between the US and Russia for global influence. Russia is coming from a long freeze and its image needs to morph and develop. Like it or not, the majority of the world trust Russia as little as they trust US, but they are afraid of the US. Showing an ability for both might and diplomacy is important.
In Russia they say: better a sparrow in hand than an eagle in the sky. Unfortunately in politics it doesn’t work that way.

Platitudes + another “idiot”.

At this rate it will be morphing for 500 years if God allows. The West will do everything the time spread to 3000 years at least.
Oh, btw, you have problems reading with understanding.

“It is, frankly, impossible to read an account of what is happening that does not imply or state that the destruction and killing that is occurring is being committed by the Novorussians.”
I agree this is disturbing, so much so I can’t stand to read the Western Media. Instead, I get my frontline news from Twitter by doing an Advanced Search listing all the main towns and cities involved. It’s not hard to sort out who’s telling the truth on Twitter.
To Unknown 21:43 who said,
“PLEASE Saker and readers watch and read these 2 links, it shines a light on recorded FACTS about the sell off of Donbas and parts of Ukraine for USA Fraking and other Corporate interests!!”
I understand one of the Rothschilds owns the leases on some of these fracking sites, and that Shell Oil and Chevron are contracted to exploit them. Tweeters from Slavyansk have said these oil extraction plans explain why Slavyansk in particular is being attacked. The Shell Oil brochure itself has a map of areas destined for fracking. These include large regions of Donbass around Slavyansk. (Sorry, 2 weeks since I read that, don’t have the link.) Another reason for the Kiev attacks is that its IMF loan is contingent on a unified Ukraine. So we have at least 3 culprits: Rothschild, the oil corporations, and the IMF.
