Hmm. I’ve thought something similar for some time. Clinton suffered the Lewinsky scandal even if he was an outstanding operator for the US Deep State Complex (not all agreed apparently). I doubt today that many Americans know what is in the Charter of the United Nations. I suspect most don’t know it even exists. Its been a long time since I was in school. Back then, American history courses ran out about at the end of WW2. Oh, there were a few chapters for the time since, but the length of the school year said that if you began at Columbus (and of course, not the mass murdering en-slaver) then the school year ran out on the history course at about the end of WW2. Don’t ever know if that’s been fixed. But if they did start to cut more out, then FDR and Eleanor Roosevelt and the founding of the United Nations after WW2 would be one of the first part to be cut by the Texas school board that controls most printed text books in the US.
The founding of the United Nations is not celebrated in the USA. And what is said in the UN Charter is not ever really mentioned. Its not in any Hollywood movies. Nobody makes any historical dramas about Franklin and Eleanor trying to prevent the horror of WW2 from ever occurring again.
To the extent that the UN is mentioned, its by the right-wingers who hate it constantly attacking it and smearing it. The fact that OMG, the USA actually pays money to the UN is politically treated as a scandal. Republican Presidents for a long time have been either cutting off the funding or threatening to do so. And of course, Israel also hates the UN and that of course does influence what’s said on American corporate mass media. There’s not really a pro-UN party in the US. Well, the Green Party maybe, for what that’s worth with their 1% of the vote, but not the Democrats and certainly not the Republicans.

The comments of the representative of Russia on the UNSC are quite reasonable and to be expected of those who take diplomacy seriously and respect for international forums and agreements.
Unfortunately, that is not the US attitude has been evidenced from Ukraine to Venezuela with stops in Libya, Kosovo and Iraq. The US regime, as Germany before it, is working its way towards its Polish moment or perhaps to a moment like June 22, 1941.
We can hope for the success of diplomacy but should not rely on it. What use is a great army if you are not willing to use it?

I started thinking about this Venezuela issue and put two and two together. Koch brothers refine “junk oil” as it is called in some circles. Koch’s father was a chemist who invented a method to refine heavy oil which was dirty but the method he had was suitable to create clean usable oil/gas and profitable to boot, disregarding, of course all the environmental side effects of refining it.
In the 20’s and 30’s and to this day pollution control was by dilution in the atmosphere, free dumping into the air and rivers. When Koch Sr. came out with the method of refining heavy oil, he was sued for patent infraction by big oil. He did not have any money to fight this, so he backed off. US “isolationist” and Roosevelt socialism, at that time, were not concerned when Russians knocked on Koch Sr.’s door. Stalin invited Koch Sr. to USSR. He helped build some 20 heavy oil refineries in USSR. Stalin was a dictator, not a communist, just like many dictators today so business is business you go, like the Qwest does today where the money can be made.
When the purges started in USSR in the 30’s Koch’s cohort in Russia wound up in Siberia and Koch became enemy number one of Communism. He supported every organization that said anything negative about Communism. His support in the US including the Birch Society no different than the Koch Brothers financial support for the Fraser Institute.
When the Sr Koch died, I think in the 60’s, his four sons took over the company. The oldest Koch son 32 years of age became the Boss. They built, I think, three heavy oil refineries in US that refine “junk oil” and there is one Venezuelan refinery in Taxes as well that also refines heavy oil.
Koch’s have huge holdings in Alberta and the royalties are very low 1% and up to 4% if the price is above $50 per barrel. The production initially of heavy oil (tar Sands) was a fraction of what it is today due to Koch involvement.
Koch brothers had a family fight and much of their dealings became public in court records, including their support of pipelines and dealings in Alberta as well as Venezuela.
Alberta is in trouble, Trudeau is in trouble, Koch’s want their profits so what to do but be Nazis and attack the competition, stop their oil flow, or steal the oil through a manufactured coup d’état, which Trudeau and Trump call “democracy”. This is what Hitler did when he was cut off from his oil supplies. Rommel was unable to break through to the Middle East oil fields, the British navy bottled up the German maritime fleet, so the German strategy was to attack someone that had oil and other resources.
