The first direct, high-level dialogue, under Joe Biden Administration, was held on 18-189 March 2021 in Anchorage, Alaska, USA. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, national security adviser Jake Sullivan, Chinese Director of the Office of the Central Commission for Foreign Affairs Yang Jiechi, and Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the dialogue.
After welcoming the Chinese guests, Secretary of state Mr. Blinken accused China of many issues, including Xinjiang, Hong Kong, Taiwan, cyberattacks on the United States, and economic coercion toward our allies. Each of these actions threatens the rules-based order that maintains global stability.
Director Yang responded that “What China and the international community follow or uphold is the United Nations-centered international system and the international order underpinned by international law, not what is advocated by a small number of countries of the so-called rules-based international order. And the United States has its style — United States-style democracy –and China has the Chinese-style democracy. It is not just up to the American people, but also the people of the World, to evaluate how the United States has advanced its own democracy. After decades of reform and opening up in China’s case, we have come a long way in various fields. In particular, we have engaged in tireless efforts to contribute to the peace and development of the World and to upholding the purposes and principles of the U.N. Charter.”
“The wars in this World are launched by some other countries, which have resulted in massive casualties. But for China, what we have asked for, for other countries, is to follow a path of peaceful development, which is the purpose of our foreign policy. We do not believe in invading through the use of force, in toppling other regimes through various means, or massacring other countries’ people because all of those would only cause turmoil and instability in this World. And at the end of the day, all of those would not serve the United States well. So we believe that it is important for the United States to change its own image and stop advancing its own democracy in the rest of the World. Many people within the United States actually have little confidence in the democracy of the United States, and they have various views regarding the government of the United States. In China, according to opinion polls, China’s leaders have the wide support of the Chinese people. So no attempt to — the opinion polls conducted in the United States show that China’s leaders have the support of the Chinese people. No attempt to smear China’s social system would get anywhere. Facts have shown that such practices would only lead the Chinese people to rally more closely around the Communist Party of China and work steadily towards the goals that we have set for ourselves.”
“Xinjiang, Tibet, and Taiwan are an inalienable part of China’s territory. China is firmly opposed to U.S. interference in China’s internal affairs. We have expressed our staunch opposition to such interference, and we will take firm actions in response. On human rights, we hope that the United States will do better on human rights. China has made steady progress in human rights, and the fact is that there are many problems within the United States regarding human rights, which is admitted by the U.S. itself as well. The United States has also said that countries can’t rely on force in today’s World to resolve the challenges we face. And it is a failure to use various means to topple the so-called authoritarian states. And the challenges facing the United States in human rights are deep-seated. They did not just emerge over the past four years, such as Black Lives Matter. It did not come up only recently. So we do hope that for our two countries, it’s important that we manage our respective affairs well instead of deflecting the blame on somebody else in this World. We’ve had a confrontation in the past, and the result did not serve the United States well. China will pull through and has pulled through such confrontation.”
Outcomes:
China availing this opportunity has conveyed that China will not accept U.S. supremacy and will not accept dictation. China will not allow any country to interfere in its domestic issues. Generally speaking, the Chinese are well-mannered, polite, submissive, and friendly people. It seems that the U.S. has crossed all the limits where China have to take a firm and blunt stand and express their point of view so clearly. It is up to the U.S. administration to analyze the Chinese response and do their homework before meeting them again.
The World has conceived well that the U.S. can not sustain its hegemony anymore. It is no longer a unipolar world, and the U.S. is no longer a unique superpower. The U.S. needs to understand the emerging geopolitics and have to accept realities. It might need to share power with other rising nations and respect them. The U.S. must keep in mind the existence of other emerging nations’ potential while making any decision.
It is an established fact that the U.S., after enjoying the global leadership role for seven decades, may not sustain this status anymore. The U.S. is on the decline and, with every passing day, may decline further. Whereas China is a rising power and, with the passage of each day, may grow further. The time is on the Chinese side. If Americans are wise, they might give up confronting China and extend cooperation to be the beneficiary of Chinese rise. There exists enormous goodwill about America among the general public in China.
The American claim of promoting democracy and the law-based rule is no more trusted as the Americans are a supporter of all dictators in the oil-rich Gulf countries in the Middle-East. The U.S. was behind the toppling of the democratically elected legitimate Government of Mr. Adil Morsey in Egypt. Again, it was the U.S. who was among the first nations to support the dictator General Sissi in Egypt. American history is full of supporting dictators around the globe. Regarding law-based rule, it is just a joke. It was the U.S. that destroyed Iraq, Libya, Syria, Afghanistan, etc.
Under the Trump Administration, America was deteriorated in respect of human rights violations, hate among various ethnicities in America. And official discriminatory laws were introduced against Muslims; immigration laws were biased. The pandemic was mismanaged, the economy was collapsed. President Trump harmed America so severely that it might take several decades to recover such losses. President Trump has offended some of his close allies too.
President Joe Biden’s remarks about President Putin were misconceived and may spoil the geopolitics further. More tensions between Russia and the U.S. are predictable visibly. It may cement China-Russia relations further.

Well said, all good points. However most American people are so enmeshed in their Exceptionalism that they are unaware of the implications of their leaders’ bad decisions. Even as the country falls apart they pin the blame on everything but their own political system and faulty values.
I’m not certain that is entirely true. I do think that a large portion of the American people do not understand what has, and is happening. The population is largely distracted and uneducated about global matters. It’s sad to say, but it’s true. Most are caught in their own treadmill of survival and materialism that they don’t look up and when they do what they see confuses them. But, there also a large population that does see what is happening and are at a loss what to do about it. When our political system is corrupt, when our legal systems are corrupt and don’t produce results then what is to be done? I think there will be a movement toward “localism” here in the US … that is, when people realize that their local state government and communities are powerful, and more powerful than they currently realize. There will be a war between our own Federal government and that of the states because the global elite (central bankers and NGOs) who are attempt to own the world don’t want their chickens to run loose. Considering the outright nefarious and sociopathic tendencies of the global elite, their intent on owning everything, their intent on controlling everything through the new “space lanes” vs. the traditional “ocean lanes” and we’re in for a huge war, upset and reckoning such as the world as never seen.

It would take a colossal moron to evoke such a response from China. US has managed to do just that. Congratulations.
As for blaming Trump for everything deteriorating, that is nonsense. It has deteriorated under the stewardship of many presidents. One of the most harmful was Obama. Trump was the worst only for destroying the facade of “decency” they hide behind.
Thanks for the good read.
It doesn’t look like the Alaska meeting went well as it was immediately followed by sanctions from both sides.
China has taken gloves off to stand up to Imperialists that are challenging it! Now China and Russia are exposing the human right abuses and genocides of these Imperialists, who are losing all their credibility.
China’s rise will bring an end to the Financial Empire’s hegemony and dominance. It is great that Russia has joined with China to challenge this hegemonic power that craves for control of its resources. Nord Stream 2, de-dollarization, new sanctions, accusations and geopolitical hotspots (South China Sea, Syria, Ukraine…) will define the future course of actions. The Dollar Empire is in a big quagmire.
Are Americans asleep or lost in the consumption forest?

Why does a platform that encourages writing one liners like Schwarzenegger films even necessary? It’s idiotic and has degraded society significantly.
I consider myself very lucky to be alive to witness the humiliation of the Americans.
The chickens have come home to roost.
I wonder how bad the Americans want to get nuked.

The fastest, and I mean like really fast way to end ‘white supremist racism’ (which only exists to do one thing) is to get rid of Zionism, the most racist murderous ideology of modern times.
“Under the Trump Administration, America was deteriorated in respect of human rights violations, hate among various ethnicities in America. And official discriminatory laws were introduced against Muslims; immigration laws were biased.”
Just to remind you that US is not a muslim country, it was build on a Christian foundation.
Trump tried to restore US, save it from the completely evil globalism.
Are you the one who decides about the immigration laws in US?
“United States-style democracy “
“Chinese-style democracy. “
Comparative “evaluation” requires a common standard of measure.
The common standard of measure attempted to be used above is “democracy”, negated by assignment of labels “United States-style” and “Chinese style” thereby precluding its commonality and efficacy as a standard of measure.
This is further undermined by“democracy” not being defined but assigned a label; thereby its content is never deliniated.
The assignment of labels as above is very useful in “perception management” encouraging unproductive “wars of holograms”, sometimes known as dances of chimera, deflecting effort from transcendence.
This process had/had utility in the construction and half-lives of the myths upon which the opponents’ regime relied/relies.
Sad to see Muslim brotherhood propaganda on this respected site… But seeing who the author is, no surprise….
El Sisi has the overwhelming support of the Egyptian people. He saved Egypt from the Muslim brotherhood and turkeys neo ottoman agenda.
Iran has also been promoting the Muslim Brotherhood’s CIA-and-Mossad-dictated line on the so-called “Arab Spring” since day one. Iran supported the “colour-revolutions” against ben Ali, Mubarak, and Gaddafi, in the name of Islamist “unity” against “infidels.” Iran also supported the West’s proxy wars against Russian interests in Afghanistan and the Balkans. Recall that the MB also supported the Islamic Revolution in Iran as a bulwark against Soviet-influenced communism and pan-Arab nationalism. This perfectly suited the West’s “zero-growth” agenda and so-called “Islamic Green Belt” against conservative modernisers. The MB is notoriously anti-white, anti-Christian, and anti-Semitic (but pro-Zionist). It readily aligns with postmodernist identity politics and cultural “‘Marxism’” (Trotskyism) against nation-states. In sponsoring this, Iran has supported everything that it would rightfully refuse to accept in its own country, and in doing so has contributed to its own detriment.
That indeed is a very foolish policy and one can only hope for Iran to correct the mistake, else they will go nowhere in the long run.
“The U.S. was behind the toppling of the democratically elected legitimate Government of Mr. Adil Morsey in Egypt. Again, it was the U.S. who was among the first nations to support the dictator General Sissi in Egypt.”
I will always react to such statements. To put things into perspective, 51% of 20% (=10%) of the population “democratically elected legitimate Government of Mr. Adil Morsey” after a NED sponsored color revolution with assorted snipers shooting equally at the demonstrators and the police. The only political force that was ready for elections was the Qatar sponsored Muslim Brothers. The 10% who actually voted for Morsi were from the poorest strata of the economy and were bought literally with free distribution of rice and cooking oil. Our “legitimate” president then proceeded with plans to (again literally) auction off the entire nation, and the systematic persecution of Coptic Christians and the burning of their churches throughout the country. Is this really a legitimate president, or rather a US criminal stooge to be ousted by any means?
Under Pr. Mubarak, Egypt was essentially under US political tutelage and IMF and Saudi financial tutelage.. But already at that time serious friction appeared between the US versus KSA and Egypt due to the China factor. Morsi would have de facto weakened KSA and strengthened Qatar and by extension Turkey, which are respectively Saudi’s and Egypt’s main counterweight in the US perspective of divide to control.
Other facts that are way to easily forgotten or otherwise brushed aside. From the moment Sissi appeared on the scene to this very day, he has received the “Putin treatment” from the MSM. I havent read a single title that doesn’t systematically denigrate him with exactly zero evidence. Since his taking over the Nation, Egypt is consistently moving nearer to Russia and China on all fronts, while distancing itself from the US and EU. Sissi declined sending troops against Damascus, or joining a military coalition against Iran, stating unambiguously that Iran was no enemy. Sissi did join in writing the coalition against Yemen in exchange of badly needed Saudi financing, but has contributed exactly zero in practice, Does that look like a US supported dictator?
And I’ve only listed some of the more glaring facts, but I could probably go on for pages. So why is it that even on sites such as “The Saker”, journalists who otherwise seem well informed on current world affairs, still perpetuate that erroneous picture of Egypt and its current leader? It’s even more perplexing since they invariable simply state it as matter of facts without ever giving any context on presenting conclusive evidence?
Really weird… but otherwise good article.
Interesting comment, thanks Tarik.
“… after a NED sponsored color revolution with assorted snipers shooting equally at the demonstrators and the police.”
Sounds like Maidan happened also in Egypt.
“Our “legitimate” president then proceeded with plans to (again literally) auction off the entire nation, and the systematic persecution of Coptic Christians and the burning of their churches throughout the country.”
Well, it seems that Trump wasn´t the only one to introduce “discriminatory laws” against religious groups.
You know what´s common denominator to Muslim Brotherhood and neoliberals? Hatred against Christians, that unites one of the weirdest unholy alliances the world has ever seen.
Actually I’d say it’s just hatred of God, no matter what “flavor”. Zionism and Wahabism are twins born of the same entity that later brought us neoliberalism, and they also aim, in their own way (perversions of the religious path), for the destruction of men’s sacred link to the Divine. A sort of satanic trilogy, the way I see it.
And thank you for the appreciation.
Good analysis. But not just that, I agree with your underlying worldview. The US empire was already evil, but Trump and his supporters have made it doubly for making it overtly racist…
Allen,
There are many layers of comprehension and understanding in this complex world.
The western Nato war of sanctions under Biden is worse than under Trump.
Surely your own understanding is rather gross and crude as it seems you rather prefer dems and NWO sugar coated words and lip service.
It is talked about in Chinese Internet that before Chinese diplomats attending the meeting, they went through 20 (or so) different scenarios of what the other side would say or do, and practiced the responses accordingly.
You think US would do such preparation? Probably not.
“It is talked about in Chinese Internet that before Chinese diplomats attending the meeting, they went through 20 (or so) different scenarios of what the other side would say or do, and practiced the responses accordingly.”
that only means they are utterly insecure and without a clear goal.
OTOH, I wish Pepe would write about the bankruptcies happening in China…
that only means they are utterly insecure and without a clear goal.
It could also mean that China is sane and doesn’t want World War 3.
OTOH, I wish Pepe would write about the bankruptcies happening in China…
In any system with some capitalism, over 90% of businesses fail. This is true for China too, though the country is not totally capitalist.
We say these things about China but I wish everybody would go home and look in their closet to see how many of their clothes are made in China. Many. Also socks. We all wear them and I understand almost every sock manufactured is manufactured in China. That is a lot of socks.
The other thing to look at on your labels is the brand name. Many American name brands have their products made in China – by slave labor, say some, but who knows? The point is, some of these brands have very patriotic themes! But profit is important. The clothes are made in China for very little money and shipped by to the US and sold for lots of money by what were formerly American companies but are now multinational companies who do not put AMERICA FIRST.
The above statements are some of the reasons I think we will not go to war with China. Not gonna happen. It is all bluff and smoke. All the criticisms are just words. The multinational corporations run the US and one thing they do not want is for profits to drop.
“There exists enormous goodwill about America among the general public in China.”
Why?
The venue of this Alaska meeting was unfit for state officials of this level.
