From Zamir Awan for the Saker Blog
46 allies, plus 11 supporter countries, totaling 57 countries, deployed 150,000 troops at peak time, all modern weapons, latest technology, advanced tactics, and trillions of dollars could not defeat the Taliban. Taliban were poorly equipped with light weapons, barefooted, empty stomach, and untrained, and poorly organized groups, yet, won the war. Americans must have learned a bitter lesson that it is not their war machines, not their military might, not their money, which can protect them or elevate them. It requires a different set of skills and qualities which save you from humiliation, disaster, and defeat.
What happened on 15 August 2021 in Afghanistan, is “Saigon-Plus”, with its consequences much more than the Saigon incident on 30 April 1975 in Saigon, Vietnam. The humiliation and economic loss are multiplied by many folds. The loss of lives and loss of face is also much higher in magnitude than the Saigon incident. The shock and trauma will remain for a much longer time and the US may require decades to recover completely.
However, the US has lost its two-decades-long war on the ground, yet trying to fight it politically, diplomatically, and on media. Western media is an expert in spreading fake news and fabricating stories. The US and allies are using media to distort the Taliban image, creating fuss and unrest, projecting a negative image of the Taliban. However, the world has witnessed that the Taliban are very much peaceful and even they have not fired a single bullet, have not killed a single person, have not injured a single person, have not harassed a single person, have not arrested a single person, have not threatened a single person while recapturing Kabul. Taliban has granted a general amnesty to all and ensured to protect each individual. Taliban has offered to provide full protection to all diplomatic missions, staff, and UN structures and all foreign media persons, and all foreigners in addition to all Afghan nationals. It is Western media creating confusion and spreading fake news to create unrest in the country.
The general public has welcomed the Taliban and has not offered any resistance while the Taliban were recapturing the country. Most of the local people were happy with the Taliban and supported them. In fact, the Taliban are the real son of the soil and representing Afghanistan. They were loyal to the country and looking after the national interest, they fought with the foreign occupation for two decades, they offered martyrdom and their lives. They won against the invaders and they deserve to rule the country.
The US has realized this fact long ago and initiated peace negotiations with the Taliban in 2017. The US knows very well that the puppets like Hamid Karzai or Ashraf Ghani are not the real people of Afghanistan, neither representing Afghanistan, that is why they ignored them and deliberately kept them out of negotiations. The US administration believes that the Taliban are the real pillars of power and so that they decided to negotiate with them. It is natural, while the US negotiated with them and concluded a peace deal in February 2020, it was indirect recognition of the Taliban. It is to emphasize that either USSR-backed or American puppets Presidents, all were traitors only and were not representative of Afghanistan. They served their masters and implemented their agenda. They all were not loyal to Afghanistan and never looked after the interests of the Afghan people. Only the Taliban are true representatives and looking after Afghan interests. In return, the Taliban enjoys public support and popularity.
Even, today, the US is in communication and collaboration with the Taliban for the evacuation process, the control of Kabul airport is due to direct communication between the Taliban and Americans. While the US is working in close liaison with the Taliban, there is no reason to accept the legitimacy of Taliban rule.
China and Russia have consented to work closely with the Taliban and many other countries in the region are in touch with the Taliban. It is expected in the coming few days when the Taliban declare their Government formally, there will be more than a hundred countries to recognize them officially. All countries in the region, OIC member states, countries under China or Russian influence will recognize Afghanistan soon. Most African and Latin American Countries will also recognize Taliban rule. Many countries in Europe will accept the Taliban government. As a matter of fact, the Taliban’s glorious victory is a ray of hope for all victims, suppressed, and developing and underdeveloped nations. Maybe America will face again a humiliated isolation if they persist to oppose the Taliban government. It is worth mentioning that in the recent past, the US faced embarrassing humiliation in the General Assembly, when a motion was moved to stop the Israel-Gazza conflict, the motion to shift the Capital of Israel to Jerusalem from Telaviv, etc. If the US has not learned a lesson from the past, must be ready to face such embarrassments in the future too. Informally, the US has recognized the Taliban and working closely with them. But politically may be hesitant to acknowledge their potential to rule Afghanistan. The Us may also convince a few of its close allies not to accept Taliban rule.
Afghanistan is an important country and known as the “Heart of Asia” is situated on very important trade routes, connecting East Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, China, Russia, Eurasia, and through Gwadar to onward destination in Africa, Europe, and Middle-East. Afghanistan is rich in minerals and mines. The Fertile land and excellent climate are blessings for agriculture. Afghanistan has a long history, traditions, culture and is known for bravery. It is fact that Afghanistan is known as the “Graveyard of Great Empires”.
It is appealed to all peace-loving nations and individuals to extend support to the Taliban. A country that suffered four decades in the war due to superpowers and three generations suffered war destructions. The country suffered much more explosives than the combined explosive used in world war I and II. A country with total damaged infrastructure, no hospitals, no schools, no industry no social life, deserve your attention.
Those who destroyed Afghanistan have a responsibility to reconstruct it. The UN may initiate a case of war crimes and fix war compensation. Afghan people are not the people of lesser God, they deserve your attention and support. Be generous and be king. Save humanity, Serve Humanity!

Things are not always what they seem to be.
For instance, the planned collapse of the Kabûl land army through stopping to pay and provide for them — that indicates nefarious planning.
Also, look at which leading Talibs have been let out from US and Pakistanin presumed “captivity”
Also consider what will happen to the opium (heroin) trade and refineries.
Exactly the same will happen in 5-10 years with Ukraine, when Washington lost its fun in destroying that country and robbed enough ressources out of it. They will lay back and enjoy Ukraine sinking into civil war and chaos.
One cannot fathom the poorest and totally destroyed country can bring the combined might of NATO to its knees. Is God on the side of Afghan freedom struggle?
If so it is the same God who was on the side of the Vietnamese communists who defeated America in similar fashion with far more devastation than has been wreaked on Ahghanistan. Not that it is a competition, its just that I feel the author downplayed the Vietnam war by calling it the “Saigon Incident”.
God likes humility, not exceptionalism, He wants us to take care of the widows and the orphans…I do not think He is on one side or the other, but surely He wanted to smash American arrogance….
The ignominy of the West and those befuddled living in the land of Oz cannot even accept defeat with some dignity.
The general amnesty to collaborators and those who served the occupation forces is a remarkable display of noble victory. The CIA assets holed up in the panjshir valley providing great photography for the media demonisation of the Taliban have been offered a peaceful surrender. The taliban have even extended this magnamity to former corrupt president Ashraf Ghani. He may return and will be pardoned. The outreach and plea to different factions to come together for the sake of reconciliation is a great sign of maturity. The diplomatic endeavours to concerned regional parties. Can anyone doubt that these sons of the soil operate with a sense of patriotic duty.
The bloodless takeover and the above gestures after enduring immense sacrifices for two decades is a sight to behold. Are their any parallels in modern history. Can any anti-taliban observer recognise these feats of noble victory.
As Pepe said in his talk posted recently and after their first press conference. They never gloated at what they had accomplished and presented themselves with humility. I can only surmise the shock and trauma going through global circles over this stunning victory is not just the defeat of a superpower, but the shock of the relentless two decades of demonisation they were clearly subjected to. The good news is those very people have realised more vividly the orwellian nature of their existence and has emboldened their own spirits to challenge the beast themselves.
The chaotic scenes within the airport still under US occupation (albeit with agreement) and the relative order in the country under taliban control is quite a stark contrast to behold.
Their is no doubt that the nature of the speedy victory may have played a role in the haphazard evacuation we are seeing. However, it certainly seems the disorganised and delaying tactics is intentional to make the taliban look bad. Oh! How bitter in defeat. What great pictures we can show the world that people are fleeing the taliban takeover. Although we know many are those who worked for the occupation forces and don’t want to bare the after effects within their own society. But one thing I like about Russian diplomats is that they tend to assess things quite well. As a Russian diplomat noted, ‘its most likely most are fleeing because they see the potential of a free ride to the west’. But the wannabe masters of the universe were always about optics and never context.
On a more positive note, the taliban have released their statement that they expect the evacuation of foreign forces to be completed by the agreed deadline of 31 August. Not to forget that this deadline was already breached by Biden from the end of May deadline. I think the talibs have had enough of Western perfidy. Good on them! And rightly so. The British are pushing the US to extend it. Well those brave souls can’t stay on their own now can they. No doubt there will be further cry on this point from the most self righteous of these adolescents. However, the statement further goes on to say that after this date, anybody with the correct documentation can leave in civilian aircraft. No arguments there my son!
Quite pleased the taliban, already treating the defeated occupation forces with goodwill have made this statement. They are a hindrance to the reconciliation process and a grave distraction. The taliban honour their word. So be careful.
I must admit I am a little confused.
Where are the Arab dictators on the issue of Taliban and Afghanistan today? Where are the Saudis and UAE who claim to be the leaders of Muslims? Why are they So Silent? Did their boss tell them to be quiet and stay out of this?
Arab dictators? Whose left? Saudi and UAE? Seriously? They terrorize little girls……..thats it. The only ‘leader’ in the Muslim world, happens to be Iran. And they are by no means silent. Kinda busy shuffling a Great Satan out of the neioghbourhood. The dominos have started to fall.
Cheers, M
The Saudi and UAE princes are mere playboys. We should not expect any leadership from any of them, unless its leadership of the playboy lifestyle on the most extravagant scale.
They aren’t silent.
https://www.arabnews.com/node/1915461 — “Friends of Iran are now in power in Kabul”
They are just a bit distraught.
Any time an Afghani counterpart of Juan Guaidó or Svetlana Tikhanovskaya will appear, who declare themselves president of Afghanistan and get immediate recognition by the USA and the EU. We all know how absurd international politics have become the last decade…
While I question the author’s assertions that the Taliban took over without firing a single shot they have not attacked western forces during the evacuation. Afghans are much better served by the Taliban than the former government IMO. Ghani fleeing without a fight with 100’s of millions of dollars tells you all that you need to know.
Bill, soldiers fight, politicians…………not really sure what they do, other than consume valubale air the rest of us need. The Talibs are Afgnani, not bought for quislings brought in to work for US interests. I think the Afghanis will be served well, with Russia, China, Iran, providing the motivation for the Talibs to stand up ‘internationaly’ (be recognized and accepted) and be counted.
Cheers, M
$169 million, which he denies, and he has been granted a pardon already..
With Sharia Law, and no oil, almost impossible for the Taliban to count on any support from “friends”..
The truth is this is a case of TINA (There Is No Alternative). Knowing how USA operates, referring to the russian saying “you have a brick” it looks like they’ve pawned it back to the talibs for a deal that they could not refuse. The US will hold their feet to that fire for a long long time. It’s not hard to guess what it is. Seeing China and Russia trying so hard to work a deal with the talibs it’s very clear they have a strong sense of what deal the talibs cut with the US.
‘Seeing China and Russia trying so hard to work a deal with the talibs it’s very clear they have a strong sense of what deal the talibs cut with the US.’
chi and rus are NOT working a deal w talib. the deal had already worked out ages ago and the lightining speed of taking back Kabul and the country is the manifestation of it.
the only deal w US is they are completely out in Afgan by end of the month or dead americans are likely to pile up.
the talib has ONLY 2 most important pririoties! (pls heed here talib brothers)
1) form and maintain a peaceful working gov strcture then right hand to hold Iran and left hand to hold Pakistan
2) establish a 10% (not one less) of female official ministry in the rebuilding of the new afghan
the females are our mothers, sisters and daugthers, my talib brothers! they are the most solid foundation and guarantor of your family and religion traditions get passed on from generation to generation to build a new afghan. Should they not be treated w much much much more respect and honor? Go to your Koran and seek the word. We should not confuse the ancient tribal traditions or the interpretation of certain teachers w god’s teaching and command. Seek and you will find, woman are much more dear in the heart of your god more than you hv placed them in your society to date. another bonus, this lifting of woman status alone will also guarantee minimum a decade of solid support from the international community, which will lead to accessing international markets and its benefits. see japan, they are v masculine society too but 10% is the minimal line, for optics or for real. Insha’Allah.
may the peace of your god be upon you in trouble days and his wisdom guide you forward to be closer w victory. may you be strong.

Hope your wish come real. However per this article, there’s no difference between AQ and Taliban. https://asiatimes.com/2021/08/taliban-takeover-already-terrorizing-pakistan/
Remember, the main reason the USA invaded Afghanistan in the first place was to turn it into a corrupt narco-state. The Taliban had all but wiped out opium cultivation by 2001. It wasn’t until 2005 that the CIA ramped up production to the point where Afghanistan was once again providing 90% of the world’s heroin. This brought the cost of heroin in northern New Mexico where I am a teacher down to $5 a hit and fueled an epidemic of heroin addiction that ruined countless lives, including the children of addicts who have been making their way through the grades, damaged both mentally and physically.
The same fiends who brought us 9/11 and all the wars of this century are now blaming Biden for finally pulling the plug on this massive war crime. It was never about terrorism or nation-building. It was never about “the hunt for bin Laden” or any other phony pretext for this horrible war. Every American president since 2001, including both Biden and Trump, has had to dance around the horrible truth that Israel attacked the USA on 9/11 and got away with it.
Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) was the lone ‘no’ vote in Congress against the war in Afghanistan in 2001, voting against an authorization for use of military force (AUMF) shortly after the attacks. At the time, she was reviled for being unpatriotic, even receiving death threats. “When I voted ‘no,’ I said it was a blank check and would set the stage for perpetual war, and that’s what it’s done,” she said. How right she was.
5 bucks a hit? Junk is sold by the 10ths of a gram which is a common amount for a user to purchase. There are 4 bags in a 10th, obviously 10 10ths in a gram. A gram of Mexican dope was 35 dollars. That’s less than a buck a shot prior to 05. 5 bucks a hit would be 200 a gram. That would indicate the price went up or it’s just a heck of a lot cheaper in the big city.
The Afghani white is cut with meth and is a completely overpriced and inferior product to Khun Sa’s Thai 4/China White.
I was only told it was $5 a hit by junkie parents of the kids in the class I was teaching at the time, maybe not the best source for accurate info. Point is, our CIA peddled heroin all over the USA and Europe to fund their black ops.
So, how do you know all this?
Lots of valuable and useful info here, such as that US-Taliban negotiations began in 2017, the first year of Trump. But the writer somewhat tarnishes his neutrality with this sentence: “Taliban are very much peaceful and even they have not fired a single bullet, have not killed a single person, have not injured a single person, have not harassed a single person, have not arrested a single person, have not threatened a single person while recapturing Kabul.” It’s only the very last word – Kabul – which makes that a true statement because in Jalalabad, for example, there were reprisals and dead people; that town had been hotly contested and emotions were probably still running high. Yes, the Taliban have been exemplary in their final victory and this gives hope for Afghanistan’s future. For example, it’s amazing that the mayor of Kabul got a phone call from the Taliban asking him to stay in office. But that one sentence made this otherwise balanced and full essay seen like crude propaganda, which it was not.
There are still UN imposed sanctions on the Taliban. I would like to see a discussion how they could play out in the future.
Wim the UN is a joke — they have a history to prove it. Also teh USA runs the UN. So I’d say any UN imposed sanctions will be a joke too. Let’s see.
pepe has a new post @ asiatimes which i’m sure will be re-posted here soon. in he cites michael hudson’s take on how the taliban ought to proceed. my take away was the us intends to proceed to strangle the country, somewhat like lebanon & haiti, into submission. i sincerely hope afghanistan avoids the $ entirely. allows all transactions to be in yuan/rubbles/lira/produce, resources/labour or pm. i believe china, russia, pakistan, iran could trade products for rights to develop & completely circumvent the need for global bankster enslavement loans. the people have withstood unimaginable poverty & devastation for decades i hope they put this resolve & strength into rebuilding their amazingly rich & beautiful home. afghanistan deserves to be as rich as its resources & heritage. i wonder why the media never plays the taliban’s visit to texas & their days with lounging about the bush ranch? i wonder why when imran khan (whom i admire & feel pakistan is indeed fortunate to have such a prime minister) is so polite during his interview on pbs doesn’t ask her why pakistan after sacrificing 70,000 lives is still expected by the citizens & govt of the u$a to sacrifice more rather than the u$a begin to pay afghanistan & pakistan reparations? the bill is due & even though the taliban doesn’t abide usury the demented empire thrives on it & the debt is now being called & the interest accruing? i suppose it will have to wait not for the imf bt the court of international settlements, slightly different than the bis.
I cannot imagine that the Russian and Chinese Governments would be unaware of the dangers you cite, and also not see the wisdom and opportunity of organized support for Afghanistan. Many share your feelings. We can be sure Pepe will write about that. So Asian politics become ever more interesting now it seems.
snow leopard, o/c, you are right. thank you, i was stupidly suffering a crisis in faith.

Recent events are characterized by a number of inconsistencies that are by no means suitable for disregarding all caution.
My preferred, certainly quite banal thesis is: We cannot win, but neither can others, and they are busy cleaning up, and we will make sure that it costs them as much as possible.
Perhaps we should also take note of that for once:
“Afghanistan’s Lies, Myths and Legends”
August 3, 2017
https://www.counterpunch.org/2017/08/03/afghanistans-lies-myths-and-legends/
This is the side of the story that all the self-appointed analysts and experts of the so-called “free West” are suppressing…not to mention the “Islamic” ones.
With due respect, Zamir writes through the lens of the Pakistani establishment and as such is fulsome in his praise of the Taliban. Read the commentary from his — apoplectic, it has to be said — Indian counterparts and you’ll get the exact opposite. I have always held that a big part of Afghanistan’s problems stem from the Pakistan-India rivalry. But I agree that the interests of Afghans must be at the forefront of any effort to bring the country back from the ruin of war.
Until they articulate their vision for Afghanistan and demonstrate that vision through their actions, the Talibs are an unknown quality at the moment. Powers dealing with them are all hedging their bets, simultaneously demonstrating their hopes of a new, better beginning for Afghanistan to making not so subtle threats.
I don’t think the Talibs — who are relatively small in number compared to the total Afghan population — won the military campaign because of universal popular support. A great many supported them (ideologically, logistically, militarily), for sure, but I believe there are also many who simply didn’t resist them because they wanted some peace in their lives, and because they’ve had it up to here with the failures of successive puppet governments, IOW after 20 years, the Talibs seemed a better proposition. At the same time, for an ordinary person — and Afghans are humans just like the rest of us, not just pawns on a chessboard –, it’s great to be able to see your daughter go to school and make a better life for herself.
These are anxious times for Afghanistan. The spectre of (foreign-induced) civil war is real, I believe. Hopefully, for the sake of the majority of Afghans, there are wise heads amongst the Taliban leadership who will guide the Talibs on a correct path to peace and prosperity.
—————————
Therefore those who win every battle are not really skillful—those who render others’ armies helpless without fighting are the best of all.
Aficionados of an ancient text on War and who like to sprinkle their comments with ‘maxims’ from it will no doubt recognise the saying above.
The remarkable collapse of the ANA will be studied and debated, books will be written — perhaps a few with ‘The Taliban Art of War’ in their titles –, military think-tanks will come up with a new theory (G5W, anyone?) etc, etc. Well, I have a simpler theory — it’s difficult to fight when one is unsure of the ideal one is fighting for and is demoralised.
Pakistani army, no matter how incompetent at running an entire state after a coup, have been very good at knowing the ground realities in the pashtun lands and fighting the terrorist organizations in the region. Pervez Musharraf, the pakistani dictator had proposed a power sharing formula in 2001, stating that the taliban be included in the afghan government as they were a political reality. US and UK rejected it as expected, but the proposition was rejected even by Russia and Iran. 20 yrs later, US held talks with the Taliban (which did not even include their own puppet government led by ghani), Iran has been building ties with the taliban (a group it fought against in tandem with it’s arch nemesis, the USA) and Russia even hosted the taliban (which is hilarious, because taliban is banned in russia and is classified as a terrorist organisation) during the peace talks. All of them accepted what the pakis were saying 2 decades ago.
The pak army also had to deal with the terrorism that spilled across the border into pakistan in the form of TTP and thousands of pakis lost their lives due to the war. Not to forget the pak intelligence agency, the ISI, which probably is the only entity that can flex some amount of control over the taliban.
As for india, it focused on humanitarian aid and development in afghanistan, due to which it has an enormous amount of good will among the afghans, at least those afghans who were a part of the puppet government. But the indian idea of piggy backing USA failed them (so will the QUAD, which China has labelled as an asian NATO) in afghanistan. As of today, india has no influence in afghan matters, it was not even included or considered in the US or russian led talks, even after investing so much in afghanistan. Worst, indians are still hopeful about the resistance by the northern alliance (which it supported during the afghan civil war) or to state my view, they are hoping for a civil war in afghanistan, which would adversely affect pakistan and give the indians some ground in afghanistan. india is an odd man out in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, with her joining the QUAD. recently, modi called putin and spoke about strengthening bilateral ties. Putin called imran kahn after that and talked about strengthening SCO, which provides collective security to the chinese BRI initiatives. Even russia, the traditional ally of India, recognizes the diminishing role of india in the afghanistan-central asian region. Pak-China combined nexus and india’s land war with them and an anti-muslim government at the center puts india at a collision course with afghanistan, iran and central asia, which have been traditionally muslims.
I’m not totally convinced that the ‘New Taliban’ represent the aspirations of Afghan women, but that is something that must be followed closely. If they truly want women to be ‘rarely seen and never heard’, they are a relic of centuries gone by. If on the other hand, they are capable of upgrading Muslim principles to recognise massive progress in the 13 centuries since the scriptures were first written, then most people on this earth will be prepared to give them a fair hearing.
The biggest test will be observing how they seek to handle any wealth resulting from resource extraction. That is Afghanistan’s route out of poverty in the 21st century but if it all ends up in the hands of a few dozen warlords and oligarchs, no change will be discernible.
The West will not want the Taliban to succeed, any more than they tolerated Gadaaffi succeeding in Libya.
So diplomacy will be a key part of any success story in Afghanistan.
What is happening and has happened, a critical analysis reveals that it is a covert plan of USA. Americans have transfered power and handed over Afghanistan to Taliban after getting assurance for protection if their national interests. The national interests of USA is to contain China and Russia ,create instability in Iran and Pakistan, ignite problem of East Turkmenistan Movement to disturb central Asian Muslim Secular states as well as China.
Taliban are not real representatives of all Afghan ethnic groups. They represent on Pushtuns. So, this is very complex issue,an anlyst can not predict simply about what has been predicted here. Undoubtedly , American allies may accept Taliban regime to materialize the plan of USA. But it will be a perilous situation in future. Pakistan wants ,perhaps, a pro Pakistan government but Indian s role in Afghanistan can not be over ruled. Afghan Taliban will definitely need money, this may provide opportunity to India to continue supporting anti Pakistan elements from Afghanistan through Taliban.
I think the honorable author must see and wait before making any predictions. China and Russia still have not announced recognition because they want assurance of peace.
Your paranoia is quite visible. Seems like your not watching developments closely. The US and allies are tearing at the seams in agony. Taliban are averse to radical groups causing trouble outside its borders. Their statements have made this point and neighbouring countries are considerably relieved natoo is leaving. Much of that terrorism is part of their policy as a ‘strategy of tension’ and ultimately a pretext for its unholy presence. The regional countries will likely help the taliban stabalise the situation and grant them legitimacy. It appears to be heading in that direction.
@Crazy times above is letting us know that subversive forces will attempt to cause serious trouble. The West is already embarking on financial strangulation.
Taliban isn’t going to do anything anti-iran, top taliban leaders have actually been hosted by the iranians in the past few years. Besides, the iranians (, pakistanis) and the taliban have a common enemy now, IS-khorasan. Taliban is already seeking technical and medical support from Pak, they will probably seek iranian help too.
Taliban officials have on camera pledged that they will not allow any anti-pak elements on afghan soil [referring specifically to TTP(Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan)]. The only group that would do India’s bidding, the northern alliance, is now an island surrounded by the taliban ocean (panjshir valley). Mehsud’s son might be trying to project himself as a resistance leader, but his uncles were in pakistan, talking about power sharing with the taliban. Afghan taliban taking money from india to act against pakistan is the most ridiculous suggestion. The afghan taliban will in fact support kashmir separatist militants in the indian part of kashmir, escalating the problems for the indian military, already strained under the chinese and pakistani combined threat.
The reason why countries are not recognizing taliban is because there is no government right now. The talibs have said that there wont be any government until all foreign troops leave form the afghan soil. They are ultimately going to get the recognition from Pak, Iran and China, and these are the countries that matter to afghanistan.
‘What happened on 15 August 2021 in Afghanistan, is “Saigon-Plus”, with its consequences much more than the Saigon incident on 30 April 1975 in Saigon, Vietnam. The humiliation and economic loss are multiplied by many folds. The loss of lives and loss of face is also much higher in magnitude than the Saigon incident. The shock and trauma will remain for a much longer time and the US may require decades to recover completely.’
I doubt very much that you were alive during the Vietnam War. At its peak there were almost 600,000 Americans in Vietnam. The military suffered 60,000 … killed. There was a military draft.
Frankly Afghanistan is a ripple compared to Vietnam. Americans did again die for nothing, and killed many, many Afghans, also for nothing, but the scale was an order of magnitude less. Our incompetent greedy, stupid elite has been doing this forever. Vietnam put a stop to it for a while. Afghanistan will not.
Some very powerful but hidden international force made the decision that the whole “Afghanistan war enterprise” needed to end and that it was no one other than the Taliban who needed to take over.—The trillion+ dollars spent of course went to line the pockets of assorted private entities and persons. Very little
of it went to the Afghanis themselves.
This hidden force I suspect is a church-state with over 1 billion members,—whose core spiritual ideal is in the life of micromanaged-microregulated simple humble self-restricted self-afflicted austere monk-like and nun-like existence for everyone or at least for the “99%” of the population. That is what the day to day life of the so-called pious Muslim men and Muslim women is supposed to be like, if you look at the ideal lifestyle of the assorted Taliban, Wahhabists, Deobandis [from India], takfiris-daesh-ISIS, the Salafists, and the Shia Islamic revolutionists in Iran who sort of released the genie of this whole thing,—but all fitting into the spiritual ideals
of the monk and/or nun imitating the sufferings of Jesus on the cross, and seeking martyrdom. Then there would be no more consumer capitalism. There would be drastic diminution in usage of planetary resources
as the 99% will be using only 1% of planetary resources so to speak. There would be basically zero population growth as men and women will be forced apart and become extreme enemies,—think “gender warfare” in addition to notions of “class warfare” or “race warfare”. Such is that so-called “Islamic civilization” spoken of.—We see the rise of a group of fanatical cults, dealing largely with endless “holy” warfare, and fostering strife throughout society especially between men and women within all communities so no one can escape the sufferings of hatred and strife all around,—generally speaking, humans into demons.—So better not sing too many praises of what is happening in Afghanistan and how great are the Taliban, given who or what is it that they all really serve.
