The story about the attempt to murder Lukashenko in much the same manner as Anwar Sadat (during a military parade) broke over the week-end, but even I was too tired to report it. But on Monday I wrote a reasonably detailed column about it under the title “Did the US just try to murder Lukashenko“. Much more relevantly, the Kremlin fully confirmed the story and the Russian media discussed it at length. It also became known that Putin and Biden discussed this topic during their telephone call (ironic, no? Biden called Putin a ‘killer’ while the self same “Biden” tried to kill a foreign head of state). What we are talking about here is both an act of international terrorism and a de facto act of war.
I was pretty sure that by today, Tuesday, the western media would be busy ridiculing and dismissing it all as “Russian disinformation” but, instead, there is nothing, not a word. The “united West” simply totally ignored this information.
Even more puzzling is the total silence in the “alternative” free media and the blogosphere…
Then there is the truly comical Czech fairy tale about Petrov and Boshirov (the folks the Brits accused of poisoning Skripal) blowing up a weapons depot in 2014 (!).
Again, deafening silence.
But the upcoming death of Navalnyi is the one Russia-related topic the western media seems to be interested in.
Even RT and Sputnik seemed to be “covering” this very minimally and very reluctantly (these two have become so bad, I rarely even bother reading them, but that is another story).
My request today is this: if you do come across any reports discussing either the failed coup in Belarus or the Czech mental collapse, please post the links in the open thread below. Maybe I missed all the “good” coverage the “free media” of the “allied western democracies” provided?
Finally, just to show you how different the mood is in Russia, check out this (wholly unscientific) readers survey by the Russian website Vzgliad (which I would describe as moderately patriotic, pretty close to the Russian mainstream):
Translation:
Question: Is it possible in the future to build friendly and partnership relations between Russia and the United States?
Answers:
Yes, in the short term: 1.05%
Yes, in the medium term: 4.57%
Yes, in the long run: 29.15%
no never: 65.24%
Which, in plain English, means that the Russians have basically given up on the US in total disgust.
They have also finally convinced the US Ambassador to “voluntarily” leave Russia (he was apparently waiting to be expelled).
But, of course, the narcissistic West will never admit that it mostly elicits disgust and contempt from the vodka-guzzling Russian savages. All of the above will be dismissed as yet more “Russian disinformation” and “Kremlin propaganda”.
And, in the meantime, the WP is urging Biden to meet with Svetlana Tikhanovskaya. If ignorance is truly bliss, then these two will be in heaven together.
The Saker
PS: I forgot to add that the Czech version says that the Russians blew up that weapons depot because this was the depot from which the Czechs were sending weapons to both the Ukronazi regime in Kiev and to the “good terrorists” in Syria. Interesting, no? Is that not evidence that both the US and NATO were, in fact, arming both the Nazis in the Ukraine and the Takfiris in Syria? As I have said it many times, the united West will ally itself to even the Devil if that is against Russia. This is the story of 1000 years of hatred for everything Russian and/or Orthodox.
I hope Putin will offer the D and L the possibility to join the R federation, maybe after a plebiscite referendum or so. That would make it impossible for the Ukros to continue their slaughter.anxiously waiting for the news

Hatred consumes those who hate, therefore it’s pretty obvious where all this will lead to.

No you are too severe: I don’t believe this hatred of the west for a thousand years towards Russia.
Millions of people in the West love Russia and the Russians, their culture (and they also understand their historical errors ;-).
Do not forget the words of Pope John Paul II on the West and Russia, Catholics and Orthodox as the “two lungs” of the Church, also confirmed by this Pope Francis.
The fact is that the West is led by minority criminal elites animated by ferocious hatred AGAINST ALL HUMANITY, not just the Russians.
The Russians are only the momentary obstacle in their path.
But fear not, they will be defeated after much pain.
By God himself.
The issue here on the Catholic side is submission: the Orthodox don’t submit to the Pope, because we view this “office” as an innovation, not inherent to the first 1000 years of Christianity, and destructive to the perpetuation of the Faith. The “two lungs theory” is also an innovation, certainly not believed characters such as Thomas Aquinas and anyone else in the Catholic Church up until recently… RC “orthodoxy” of the past 1000 years is that, if you’re not in communion with the Pope, then you’re not in the church, and you’re most likely going to hell.
For the Orthodox, we already have the fullness of the Christian Faith, without changes or additions. Even if the Roman Pope were to become Orthodox, it wouldn’t really benefit us in any way. So, for us, the “two lungs theory” doesn’t make any sense.
Domenico & Nick: The long term goal of the rcc is eradication/takeover of the Orthodox Church. Just like what has happened in ukraine with the schism, the rcc wants to extend that to Russia, and the rcc is actually the enemy of the Orthodox Church.
Rien à attendre de spectaculaire de Poutine
I know everyone’s getting excited over Putin’s address today but my prediction is that we won’t hear any dramatic announcements. It’s not Putin’s style. There will be acknowledgement of deteriorating relations with West but re Donbass he is likely to repeat Ru will defend.. 1/2
..its citizens if necessary. He will speak about the pandemic and Russia’s success with Sputnik V. The focus will be on Russia’s development and future. Also positive working relations with China. Any hopes of ‘Belarus anchluss’ or ‘Donbas invasion’ will be dashed.

KYIV (Reuters) – Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskiy has signed a law allowing reservists to be called up for military service without announcing mobilization, his office said on Wednesday.
Approved by parliament late in March, the measure makes it possible to significantly boost the armed forces, amid escalation of tension with Russia in eastern Ukraine.
“This will make it possible to quickly equip the military units of all defence forces with reservists, thereby significantly increasing their combat effectiveness during military aggression,” the office said.

The “Western” MSM has been NOT reporting far worse happenings than the Belarus happening literally for as long as the “MSM” has existed. Keeping their viewers and listeners ignorant of important happenings is their Job 1 to keep “the system” exactly as it is in a one-person-one-vote “democracy”. For example, the “happening” in East Timor:
https://scholarworks.gvsu.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1167&context=honorsprojects
The great thing about the present world is that it is much more difficult for the MSM to carry on with Job 1, as the Belarusian happening proves; as the increasing censorship of “social media” proves. The MSM can now be “gone around” and important information can be delivered DIRECTLY to those who are still worth saving. The potential problem, and it is defintely a problem, is the “source” of what is being delivered.
(I would here like to say that The Saker’s writers, readers and commenters are some of the most well-informed people I’ve ever had the privilege of interacting with on the internet. Of course I can’t know about those who have been “moderated” out of existence by the moderators. The occasional worst example sees the light of day, but only as an example of why this moderation is in fact policy, but I think that there still is some value in, for lack of a better expression, knowing at least the number of the enemy. For example, if 90% of comments submitted never see the light of day, I think that that would be a valuable thing to know.)
Here’s a slight, belated mention in the Canadian media:
https://www.ctvnews.ca/world/in-annual-address-putin-warns-russia-s-foes-will-be-sorry-1.5395961
”He harshly criticized the West for failing to condemn what he described as a botched coup attempt and failed plot to assassinate Belarus’ President Alexander Lukashenko, allegedly involving a blockade of the country’s capital, power cuts and cyberattacks. Belarusian and Russian security agencies arrested the alleged coup plotters in Moscow earlier this month.
“The practice of organizing coups and planning political assassinations of top officials goes over the top and crosses all boundaries,” Putin said, drawing parallels between the alleged coup attempt in Belarus, plots against Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and the popular protests that led to the ouster of Ukraine’s former Russia-friendly president, Viktor Yanukovych, in 2014.”
(Not to state the obvious, but over here, actions against Venezuela cause more concern than Belarus. That’s among those who follow international events. Sometimes it does seem like ‘business as usual’ on the European continent, rightly or wrongly.)
A Free Press! Hahahahahaha What joke. In the US the MSM is the propaganda arm of the government
They want take over the Russian Government, Balkanize the Country and steal all the Natural Resources and Russians won’t let them do it so they act just like a 5 year old who thinks he is entitled to more cookies than any of the other kids and his Mother tells him he can’t because that isn’t fair so he has a tantrum without end.
Things are going to end up just like Orwell predicted with a slightly different map where Eurasia is one Country instead of two Countries and much of Africa included.
Dear Saker:
Thank you for bringing this rare and relevant information to me.
Now… just who… has acted with “…hatred for everything Russian and/or Orthodox for a 1000 years?
Are we really talking about the Americans or the West?
What/who is instrumental, in the ongoing stream of rangs and hissy-fits are the leaders, of these nations.
Now just who are the most consistent rangers and hissy-fitters in history?
What foreign passports do all (or most) of the current cabinet of the dis-United States of America federal government hold?
yeah, yeah… just another one of those co-incidences….
There was IMHO another huge but embarrassing story several years ago that the Western press censored but which was reported in Russia and on this blog; I learned about it here from a video. The Russian authorities confiscated half a billion dollars in freshly printed U.S. currency that seemed to be intended for bribing Russian political figures. I think this story would have raised more then a few eyebrows if it were reported in America.

That “sound of silence” that you hear is the complete and utter moral bankruptcy of America, the collective West, and indeed the so-called Free World in general.
Here is a fitting “tribute” from the past apropos of the present, courtesy of Simon and Garfunkel:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NAEppFUWLfc
Why the west completely downplayed this story? It could very well be for all the good motives stated above; the press might indeed being quickly sucked into a new iron curtain mentality. Already now, save for Meissan, Mazaheri, Escobar and another three or four names, the only way to get news is resorting to machine-translations.
In this specific case however, two other factors may have played a role. First, the de facto multipolar world is today’s reality, and in this reality an annual speech by Putin is something the whole world waits to hear. Press agencies in the west might easily have been told to wait and are how the facts were being addressed in this speech. Anticipating a narrative might have clashed with all sorts of interests.
The second factor however Is more puzzling, and Saker has noticed It: the few pro-russian voices, RT and Sputnik, downplayed the news all the same. They were certainly instructed to do so. I mean, the FSB officially makes a statement and publishes a video, and everyone downplayed It. This news is hot. Why noone can Jump at It?
The most ominous, tragic answer is probably what we’ve come ti understand. If correctly interpreter, the facts and the story in question cannot be seen in a different light that for what they are: the open hostilities between nato and Minsk / Moscow. The end of the infowar, and the protracting of a very serious kinetic war. Which was upon us with the murder of Soleimani, really.
And the way Iran reacted to that murder strikes more than a semblance to today’s facts. Basically, these acts of aggression are war. But the oppressed cannot go out and declare “war!” Simply because that would give the aggressor an advantage. So the only way is reframing the news, take the hit and carefully plan your countermeasure.
It could have been soo easy to give these news in the west: “Hey remember when Biden said Putin was a killer and was going to pay soon?” “Well he had this in mind: slaughtering one of his allies, a head of state.” Yeah, that would have been a nice “OP-ed” for RT. But neither side decided It was convenient for their respective audiences to hear something this terrifying: end of the infowar, fully enter the kinetic war.
Here’s a western comment. Stop showing surveillance photos of jets parked wingtip to wingtip like Clark field in the Phillipines , WW2. Unless its bait.
Do infantry dig in on a skyline and leave earth as mark ers?
Revetments for heavens sake.
Good afternoon,
Im your reader for quite some time, but I write to clarify some interesting details about the czech situation.
The main goal of the absurd fairy tale (when you hear the details, its even more beyond any reason or logic) was to take Rosatom out of the bussiness competition for the expansion of the Dukovany nuclear powerplant. It was not the first time. In 2004 i think there was a similar competition for the Temelin powerplant and the czech government thought, that they can choose whos gonna build it by themselves. They have been informed by the americans, that the american solution would be the best. The warning was not understood or ignored and the russians won. Result – the czech secret service discovered that the prime minister had an affair, and that she instructed secret service agents to spy after the prime ministers wife. The prime minister Necas had to resign…now it looked again that Rosatom could win – and they came up with this. Just a few interesting details from the czech media – another nato country had this information and told our government, that if they dont publish by themselves, well, the “other nato country” will. Thats a line from our media…someone could call it blackmailing… The ammo depot was run by several private companies, no guards, fences with holes…and the company, whom the ammo belonged to, said, that they never got an email from those two guys…but according to our secret service, they oficially registered for a visit of this ammo depot…at first it was only these two, then four and now six agents. Bellingcat kicked in, and published all kind of funny maps, details and so on. There was even a trial on this accident, few years ago and it was closed as nobodys fault. Many interesting rumours were circulating, for example about long range missles stored unoficially there, grad rockets… and that the explosion had to cover the amount of missing ammo. Oh and those two agents messed things up (you know, these clumsy russians) and the explosion happened too early. Cant even set up a timer, those two. Why the police hasnt found a second timer allthough the whole area was thoroughly searched, nobody explained. The second explosion happened a few days later…So this is in short all…not many people here believe this, the timing (7years after and right at the moment of deciding the powerplant) is exteremely suspicious even to hardcore russophobes…only brainwashed youngsters believe the whole story.
Interesting thanks
The Grad rockets stored in the Czech warehouse were destined for Syrian rebels, a.k.a. terrorists.
Nato was providing weapons to terrorists!
Hi all,
Just an update:
Belarus indicts four people in foiled coup plot – security service
“The four detained persons have been indicted under Part 1 of Article 357 of the [Belarusian] Criminal Code, plot to seize power in an unconstitutional way. They are all making full confessions and cooperating with the investigation,” the service representative stressed.

I found a decent article in the Serbian daily “Politika.” Not quite “Western” nor independent, but certainly a mainstream Serbian paper in a “no man’s land” between the Empire and Zone B. You can probably get a good machine translation of the article.

” “Ukraine may be left without a railway”
MOSCOW, April 21, 2021, RUSTRAT Institute. The company “Ukrzaliznytsya” representing the railways of Ukraine, published an almost panicked press release about the threat of the suspension of trains after four days due to the exhaustion of existing reserves of diesel fuel.
Until 2020, Russia supplied Ukraine with 50% of its diesel and Belarus about another 33%. So is Zelensky up shit creek without paddle? Has he moved his army up to the border of Donbass and has little fuel left to fight or bring them back to their barracks, let alone keeping what is left of Ukrainian industry from flatlining.

I was thinking about diesel myself. Short term, much of the oil extracted in North America is lighter. They left the bitter, sour Permian decades and decades ago for the lighter East Texas and when they finally returned, they are lightening it via fracking. And all the mixed up stuff gas and oil, wet gas with more short chain liquids, etc. etc. And dil-bit (diuluted bitumen) from the Shale lands in Canada. It keeps getting to be more of a stretch for the making of diesel fuel in the North American refinery infrastructure they need some of thick stuff. And the price differential continues to increase diesel versus gasoline. To be blunt, North America runs on diesel for cargo.
That was alleviated by the thick sour stuff from Venezuela, but that is not happening being put into refineries for diesel. I have seen limited info that the US is actually importing thick oil for diesel from the Russian Federation. If more informed people post about what percentage of the diesel from North America comes via imports of Russian crude, that would interesting.
These “just in time” supply chains in favour these days will have more and more of tendencies to bite North America in the butt, except when it happens we (as I live in North America) will shoot ourselves in the foot, repeatedly also.
Every time I hear the strident vitriolic attacks against China, my first thought is, what per centage of the precursor chemical stocks for pharmaceuticals comes from China. And then while not all of it is made into pharmaceuticals in China, a good part of that is accomplished in India – well if that spigot gets closed, then number of fatalities (and actually morbidities bite economically worse than mortalities) in North America will really take a jump up for a bit. Yes, a real upturn in being bit in the butt and North America shooting themselves in the foot.
It’s over for now. Russian troops are going home to their bases.

To The Saker
Latest news, April 22,2021:
Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu has announced that troops deployed in the west and south of the country in recent days will soon begin returning to base, saying they have now passed tests of their combat readiness.
As a result, he has now ordered commanders to “plan and begin the return of troops to their places of regular deployment, beginning from April 23.” By the end of the month, the minister said, “the personnel of the 58th Army of the Southern Military District, the 41st Army of the Central Military District, the 7th, 76th Air Assault and 98th Airborne Divisions of the Airborne Forces” will return to their normal bases.
This is an interesting development which I did not expect. Are we, perhaps, looking at a deescalation of the conflict ? Has something been going on behind the scenes ? Would The Saker care to comment.

Hi, I’m from Czech Republic and this is really a sad day for me and our “Republic”.
Unfortunately many believe this fairy tale…
1. They decided to stop buying Russian nuclear fuel for our NPPs Dukovany and Temelín. I wonder where they get the new ones, since these reactors were build by russians and only their fuel can be used …
2. We have West’s “support” but that’s about it.
Germans immediately send their diplomats and made agreement with Russia to be “Bridge between West nad East”.
Our politicians worked about 20 years so that we could be that bridge and these (current government) idiots ruined it in a week.
3. When West crumbles in a Fall or Spring next year we’ll go under with them…
Today the czech president has announced, that there is no proof whatsoever, that the two legendary agents have evere been at the ammo depot. By the way, some of our media stated that the closest proven point of their presence is approx. 100km away.
