On the Victims of Political Repressions memorial day the radio Echo of Moscow posted an image of the Nazi Germany soldiers captured by the Soviet Army. The text above the image talks about president Putin unveiling the memorial to the victims of the political repressions.
Published records indicate that out of approximately 3 million German soldiers captured on the territory of the Soviet Union, 381,067 German Wehrmacht POWs died. 356,700 German nationals and 24,367 from other nations.
Approximately 18 to 20 million Russian people had died as the result of the Red Terror and following Bolsheviks and Trotskyists political repressions.
From the period of 1921 to 1965, 3,777,380 persons were convicted for the counter-revolutionary crimes. 642,980 people were executed.
Approximately 10 million people died as the result of the Liberal terror of the 1990s.
From its creation, the Echo of Moscow editorial team and most of its guests have been staunch supporters of neoliberal ideology also known as Neo-Trotskyism.
Russian president lays flowers to Wall of Sorrow in Moscow
While we grieve over the innocent victims of political repressions, we also remember who were organizers.
I have wrote already about the speech of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin given at a meeting with representatives of the European Jewish Congress in September 2014. In his speech the President of Russia stated that the First Soviet government was 85% Jewish and that the Red Terror orchestrated by this government and its ideology killed millions of Russians.
The message that President Putin conveyed at a meeting with representatives of the European Jewish Congress in September 2014:
“The decision to nationalize the Schneersohn library was made by the first Soviet government, members of which were Jews. There was about 80 to 85% of Jews in this government. However, it was them who, directed by false ideological considerations went to conduct repressions and arrests of many Orthodox Christians and followers of Judaism, and representatives of other religions, including Muslims. They combed up all.[meaning, they were repressing and arresting everybody in the country.] These ideological blunders and false ideology, thank God, have collapsed.”

In case you have forgotten what happened in Ukraine, this book should refresh your memory with the incredibly precise and humorous chronicles: ANTHOLOGY OF RUSSIAN HUMOR: FROM MAIDAN TO TRUMP
Statistics of deceased POW are not correct. Soviet system calculated only those who died in camps, not when they were captured or moving to camps. I know this fail statistics when reading study of destiny of Finnish POW’s. Instead of 28%, actually 45% of captured Finns deceased. 17% between time time of captured and moving to camps. 28% in camps.
On the other hand same statistics are revealing the other side of the coin: those Finns captured during summer of 1944 were much more lucky when Finland made peace with Soviet Union in Sept 1944.
Yes, the figures for POW deaths are very complicated. The Soviet figures I’ve seen showed 2,733.739 captured,2,352,671 released, and Scott’s figure of 381,067 deceased in captivity. There are other claims of many more captured and a little over a million died. But those seem to include the around 700,000 MIA’s among the captured. And there is no way that can be proven. Many of them could very well have been KIA’s that were not recorded,or the bodies buried and not recorded. As tragic as POW deaths in any situation are.It must be remembered that even at the highest figure. That still is only around a third the number of Soviet POW’s that died after capture by the Germans. So like most Western claims, there is no moral high ground for them to stand on.
I am reminded of a book I read several years ago, “When Truth Was Treason” by Karl Heinz-Schnibbe, the autobiography of a German who as a teenager was arrested and imprisoned by the Nazi’s for participating in the anti-Nazi underground. When the Red Army approached the prison camp where he was held, he was sent home, then drafted into the German Army for the final battles of the war, captured by the Russians, and held as a POW by the Soviets for 4 years.
He was finally released and sent home when he was so sick and weakened by overwork and starvation that he was expected to live only for a few more days, that way his death would not be counted as being in a Soviet POW camp.
After arriving home as a nearly dead skeleton, careful treatment and nurturing by the family doctor and his mother eventually allowed a full recovery and a long and full life, dyeing 61 years later at age 86.
“captured by the Russians, and held as a POW by the Soviets for 4 years.”
Here even we (I’m guilty sometimes myself) use Russians and Soviets as the same. The Western leaders of course want us to do that. That way they can tar Russians with the Soviets deeds. Its important to remember that Russia ,though the largest Soviet republic was only one of them. And out of all the leaders of the USSR only a few of them were ethnic Russians. While many or even most,in that era in charge of the security services,as well as a great number of the “rank and file” ,were non-Russians. Jews,Georgians,Latvians,Estonians,Poles,Ukrainians,as well as Russians, all were well represented among the guilty. In fact in percentages by population. The Russians numbers would probably have been on the lower end of the scale.
Stalin himself was Georgian and the NKVD before and during the war:
“… formed from Felix Dzerzhinsky’s (Pole) Cheka, and it became known as the NKVD in 1934. It was was led by Genrikh Yagoda (Jew), Nikolai Yezhov (disputed, but almost certainly Jewish) and Lavrentiy Beria (Georgian)”.Some of its other heads were,Yakov Agranov (Jew),Mikhail Frinovsky (disputed, but the name is either Polish or Jewish at a glance),Vsevolod Merkulov (disputed, but born in Azerbaijan, and was considered part of the “Georgian mafia” loyal to Beria,Sergei Kruglov (Russian).
The Soviets, much like today’s West, were big believers in “diversity”. And followed within their “repressive organs”. What we could say was a form of “affirmative action”.Choosing a large amount of their killers from the many minority groups.Having less ties to the nations majority population it made it easier for them to oppress those people without feeling conflicted by personal ethnic ties. That only began to change with the abolishment of the NKVD and its later replacement by the KGB.Though,throughout,non-Russians still had positions in the repressive organs far above their percentages in the USSR’s population.
And among the non-Russian in the repressive organs there were still the Jews representing a disproportionate percentage (at all levels). When talking about the percenage of Jews in government, people tend to concentrate on the top positions, disregarding the middle-ranks and the rank and file.
People also tend to concentrate on the proportion of Jews among the Bolsheviks, disregarding the other revolutionary organizations, like the Mensheviks, Bund, SRs.
“Stalin himself was Georgian …. ” .
Stalin was born in Georgia ( in a small town Gory ) , but he was not Georgian , but jew. His name Yakov Jugashvili . Georgians were ((I think even now ) very proud of him and his deeds.
I do not recall ever hearing that Stalin was a ‘Jew’, whatever that is exactly. (But then, my memory ain’t what it use to be, or least what I think it used to be.) Interesting IF so.
