There is less talk about the rump-Ukraine in the news these days, especially in the western corporate media, and there is a good reason for that: that short-lived Urkonazi “Banderastan” is falling apart. This is hardly surprising since the entire concept was never viable in the first place. Let’s remember how it all began.
It is crucial to remember that there was no spontaneous revolution or insurrection in the Ukraine, the Euromaidan had nothing to do with Europe and everything to do with the USA. Oh sure, the Ukrainian people were told that it was about “joining the EU”, but that was never even a remote possibility. The sole purpose of the Euromaindan was to prevent the rebirth of a “new Soviet Union”. No matter how ludicrous the notion of a USSR v2 might be, this is what was in the always paranoid, self-deluded and ignorant minds of the US “deep state”. Two of the main spokesmen for that US deep state were very clear about this:
First, we have the crucial statement made by Hillary Clinton in early December of 2012:
“There is a move to re-Sovietise the region,” (…) “It’s not going to be called that. It’s going to be called a customs union, it will be called Eurasian Union and all of that,” (…) “But let’s make no mistake about it. We know what the goal is and we are trying to figure out effective ways to slow down or prevent it.”
Now, it is absolutely irrelevant to argue about whether Hillary was right or wrong in her interpretation. what matters is that she, and her political masters, really believe is that Putin wants to re-create the Soviet Union.
Next, we need to recall another crucial statement, made this time by Zbigniew Brzezinski who wrote:
Without Ukraine Russia ceases to be empire, while with Ukraine – bought off first and subdued afterwards, it automatically turns into empire…According to him, the new world order under the hegemony of the United States is created against Russia and on the fragments of Russia. Ukraine is the Western outpost to prevent the recreation of the Soviet Union.
Again, it does not matter at all whether evil Zbig is right or wrong. What matters is that this was the real cause of the Euromaidan: the Americans wanted to create an anti-Russia right across the Russian border. This anti-Russia would have been an extremely dangerous and destabilizing neighbor for Russia. And if Russia did intervene in the Ukraine, that would have revived a simmering Cold War to new levels, justifying the “protection” of Europe by the USA for the next 50 or 60 years at least. Uncle Sam was in a win-win situation. It was a great plan, except that it never worked, of course.
First, the Russian twice stunned the Americans: first, by using military force where they were never expected to do so (Crimea) and, second, by not using military force were they were expected to do so (the Donbass). This was really bad news for the AngloZionist Empire: Crimea, the undisputed “crown jewel” of the “independent Ukraine” was reunited with Russia without a single fatality, while the Donbass (for sure the richest and most advanced part of the “independent Ukraine”) seceded without any overt Russian military intervention at all. That was not what the US strategists had hoped for.
In total disarray, they ordered the Ukronazi military and death-squads to re-take the secessionist region, and the junta almost did. Only a desperate last ditch resistance by the Novorussians followed by the opening of a vast Voentrog (lit. “military trade”, name of a well known military surplus store, “voentorg” now refers to the covert delivery of military equipment to Novorussia) and a well-organized “northern wind” (the sending of volunteer military specialists) saved the day. After that critical moment, the Ukronazis never had another major success and their operational offensives in Saur Mogila and Debaltsevo ended in total disaster.
Then the junta in Kiev tried everything, from bombings, to random artillery attacks, to the use of phosphorus gas, to terrorist attacks, to even the use of ballistic missiles and, of course, the MH-17 false flag. But nothing worked. The Novorussians had dug in and their tactical skills and morale was vastly superior to the junta’s forces. Worse, the Novorussians succeeded, albeit with great efforts, to eventually turn their volunteer militias into a single conventional military force. Of course, compared to the Russian military, the Donetsk and Lugansk forces are still a eons away in terms of capabilities, but compared to the so-called “Ukrainian army” or the Nazi death-squads – they are vastly more capable and sophisticated.
Second, the level of mis-management, corruption and plain stupidity shown by the new ruling “elite” (so to speak) was truly of an African quality. For one thing, these nationalist imbeciles committed economic seppuku by severing almost all ties with Russia. While these ties were important to Russia, they were absolutely vital to the Ukraine. Furthernmore, Poroshenko and the coterie of pseudo-nationalist oligarchs around him proceeded to embezzle everything worth embezzling and simply stole all the money which the West provided has “help” to support the New Ukraine.
Third, despite the fact that a huge strategic PSYOP had been organized in the western corporate media to present the Ukronazis as well-intentioned patriots wanting to join Europe and live free, the Ukies were so stupid and overt in their words, actions and symbols that it became more and more clear to the people in the West that far from dealing with some “liberty loving democrats” the West was in bed with bone fide Nazis. Not only that, but the West was now paying to be in bed with them. Not that the European corporate leaders ever were so squeamish as to not be willing to be in bed with psychopathic murderers, but in the Ukrainian case this meant the lose of a much more important market: Russia.
So now, in May 2016, it becomes more and more obvious, if not undeniable, that the entire “Ukrainian project” is a total mess, potentially far worse and far more dangerous than the mess in Libya or Iraq. At least Libya has a tiny population while and Iraq can probably be brought back into some semblance of normalcy by the Iranians, assuming the West stops using Daesh to destabilize the entire region. But the Ukraine has roughly 40 million people left (officially 45M, but between Crimea, the Donbass and those who fled, it is probably well under 40M by now), smack in the center of Europe (at least if, unlike me, you consider “eastern Europe” as part of Europe). And it is falling apart. Fast.
The coup in the Ukraine has been described as a coup of “millionaires against billionaires” and there much truth to this. Oligarchs are clearly one of the key forces in the New Ukraine. The other major forces are the neo-Nazis, mostly from the western Ukraine. The third, and often forgotten, force are the various criminal mobs (ethnic and regional) who, while often closely linked to the oligarchs and Nazis, is still distinct from these two, mainly by different motives and a different mindset. The key thing about all of them is this: they are now all armed to the teeth. That’s right – the oligarchs have their own “security services”, the Nazis have their death-squads while the mobsters all have their gangs of armed thugs. As for the Ukie cops, they are staying out of the way, while the much feared SBU (Ukie KGB), which has never caught a single western spy in its entire history, is so busy kidnapping, torturing and generally terrorizing any anti-Nazi Ukrainian left that they have no time, or inclination, for law and order operations. Even anything, the SBU is basically “for hire” by the oligarchs, Nazis and even mobsters.
As for the Ukrainian armed forces, they are mostly composed of men from the eastern Ukraine and they lack the kind of ideological drive which the death-squads, which are composed of mostly west-Ukrainians, have. They do, however, have more firepower than the death-squads, and that partially explains why neither the regulars nor the death-squads have performed well in combat. What is certain is that neither the regular armed forces nor the death-squads have the means, or the will, to restore law and order, nevermind do something about the economic disaster.
In other words – there is no rule of law left at all and if the country has not entirely gone down the “Somali road” yet, it is mainly by inertia. But as the consequences of the economic collapse become evident, violence will explode.
Now that western aid has more or less dried up, and the country has been robbed blind, the central government has less and less relevance to the regions, each of which is now run by local oligarchs/warlords. This is most likely the first step in the inevitable process of breakup of what is left of the Ukraine with Lvov and Ivano-Frankovsk joining forces to create a mini-Banderastan in the west of the country. Odessa and the southern Ukraine will, sooner or later, want to break free from the control of Kiev and either be independent or join Russia in one way or another, while the central Ukraine will be left with nothing except roaming gangs of thugs à la Mad Max.
As for the Donbass (and Crimea, of course), they are gone forever – and Kiev knows that. The best proof of that awareness in Kiev can be found in the undeniable fact that the Junta has made absolutely zero efforts to try to lure back or somehow attract the people in the breakaway regions of the Ukraine to return to Kiev’s fold. Instead of paying their pensions (which they legally were obliged to), the stole all the pension money of the people in the Donbass. As for Crimea, Kiev imposed a water blockade, a transportation blockade, a food blockade and an electricity blockade. And while Russia provided everything need for the people of Crimea, that kind of petty and outright nasty harassment will hardly endure the Nazi Junta in Kiev to the people of Crimea. The fact is that Kiev has long given up on the notion of convincing the “vatniki” whom they have always hated and considered as subhuman semi-Asian mongrels anyway.
The new chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, the Ukrainian parliament, and the number 2 person in the country, Andrei Parubii, a overt Nazi with, according to rumors, mental issues, is now seriously discussing establishing a visa regime with Russia – thereby depriving 4-5 million Ukrainians in Russia from working in Russia and sending money back home. Sounds crazy? It is. But these are the same folks who closed the Ukrainian airspace to Russian airlines which, predictably, resulted in Russia closer her airspace to the Ukrainians. One look at a map will tell you who lost more.
Of course, as the economy comes to a standstill, the ideological struggles will gradually be replaced by even more primitive forms of competition for good and services and, in certain regions, even for food and shelter. When this process will begin the rump-Ukraine will undergo a process of transformation from fascism to ochlocracy at which point the rump-Ukraine will probably break up and a new wave of refugees will flood the EU.
The most amazing thing in all this is that the Ukrainian nationalists really did it all to themselves. If between 1991 and 2014 the Ukraine was run in a corrupt and incompetent manner, after 2014 the new leaders in Kiev embarked on a course which can only be described as suicidal. Seeing the chaos in the Ukraine today, it is hard to believe that in 1991 the Ukraine was a highly developed country, with an immense potential and which seemed poised to immensely benefit from being a natural bridge between the East and the West. The current apocalypse is entirely man-made, driven by hate-filled ideological delusion, fantastic levels of corruption and an apparently total lack of common sense.
The Ukrainians were promised a future looking like Germany and, instead, they got Somalia. There is going to be hell to pay for all those who were involved in this gigantic deception.
The Saker
Do you see the Ukrainian military taking over the country?
Never say never, but no, I do not. Not only are most *real* Ukrainian patriots probably gone (fired or quit) because a real Soviet/Russian/Ukrainian officer would never put up with all the Nazi shit this regime has imposed, but whatever remains are probably under tight SBU monitoring. But, again, never say never. That would certainly be the best thing for the country and even after that, the USA, the EU and Russia would have to put a huge effort into rebuilding the Ukraine, and I don’t see them do it. The USA doesn’t give a damn, as for the EU and Russia – they don’t have the kind of money needed. This kind of destruction is a one-way street: you can make fish soup out of an aquarium full of fish, but you cannot make an aquarium full of fish from a pot of fish soup. This is why, at the end of the day, a breakup into 3 or 4 parts is probably the most manageable. I saddened to have to say that, but I don’t see any hopes or even any possibility of reversing what was done to the Ukraine.
Sorry for this pessimistic reply :-(
Kind regards,
The Saker
Russia will certainly not rebuild Ukraine, why would they do that? They have more than enough land, so don’t need lebensraum, with its small population they even have trouble developing what they have.Plus, they are no longer paying rent for the use of naval facilities. Let the US an EU fix the mess they created and pump more money to be stolen by ukrops.Go Poroshenko, keep stealing their money.
Russia needs to rebuild Russia. Ukraine is its own independent country. Not Russia’s problem!
The Saker,
” a breakup into 3 or 4 parts is probably the most manageable. I saddened to have to say that ” >>
You must be feeling sad because you belong to the ‘Rus’ world and you strive to present all facets of ‘Rus’ civilization to the global audience. However what you opined here, actually represents the best possible solution i.e. break-up of current Ukraine in 3 – 4 parts…
But, I am pessimistic even about that – where are the conscience and consciousness at the individual citizen level as well as at the social platform in entire Ukraine today ? Without a minimum of that, peoples will not rise against the unspeakable horror and destruction taking place every hour in Ukraine, which may finally result in such break-up. Peoples got completely zombified there (except some regions of Donbas) during the high noon of ‘globalized financial capitalism’ that swept the east Europe from 1985 (when Gorbachev came into power) to 2008. The common people (the 90% population) under the heavily armed fascist militia appear like ready to die without any organised protest … If anybody can provide info that proves otherwise, it will be so refreshing for me.
Ah, the common people and their conscience:
“Göring: Why, of course, the people don’t want war. Why would some poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best that he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally, the common people don’t want war; neither in Russia nor in England nor in America, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship.
Gilbert: There is one difference. In a democracy, the people have some say in the matter through their elected representatives, and in the United States only Congress can declare wars.
Göring: Oh, that is all well and good, but, voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.”
This was the only opportunity ever provided for the Turkey’s to vote for Christmas https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_Union_referendum,_1991
“Although the vote was boycotted by the authorities in Armenia, Estonia, Georgia (though not the breakaway province of Abkhazia, where the result was over 98% in favour, and in South Ossetia), Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova (though not Transnistria or Gagauzia), turnout was 80% across the rest of the USSR. The referendum’s question was approved by nearly 70% of voters in all nine other republics that took part. It was the only referendum in the history of the Soviet Union, which was dissolved on 26 December 1991.”
They obliged in large numbers.
Anonymous (May 14, 9:16 pm UTC),
What a poignant note from you ! (Yes, I know that the common people of Soviet Union said in no uncertain terms in 1991 that they never want to depart from the ‘civilizational construct’ their forefathers painstakingly built and maintained by shedding blood of 25 million citizens in WW II). Thank you for reminding me to keep faith on common peoples – elites-oligarchs will betray as soon as they get opportunity to pocket more wealth, it is the common people who will make history !
Straight-Bat on May 15, 2016 · at 4:25 am UTC
You miss the point entirely. The common people do exactly as the elites wish
e.g. http://www.vernoncoleman.com/howthebritishmedia.htm
“This was, in my view, the beginning of the end for the independence and integrity of the British press. Newspaper proprietors have always used their papers to promote their own views, often for their own commercial advantage, but this was I believe the first time that the British press had united to support such a sinister and dishonest purpose. If editors did not know that they were encouraging the British people to hand over their independence they were incompetent and stupid. if they knew but did it anyway then they were as guilty of treason as Heath, Rippon and the long tawdry line of British Prime Ministers and Ministers who have followed them. If any of the journalists responsible for that great betrayal are still alive they should be publicly flogged.
The result was a foregone conclusion.
Conned, tricked, lied to and spun into a world which bore no resemblance to reality , the British people voted to stay in the Common Market. A total of 17.3 million voted `yes’ and 8.4 million voted `no’. The establishment, aided and abetted by the press, had turned suspicion and disapproval of the common market into a massive level of support.”
If the people had known what was good for them they would not have supported dissolution and they should have smelt the various rats that led to that – this ‘globalized financial capitalism’ that is at the root of the problem.
Turkey’s at Christmas
Why do you relate the death of 25 million to any of this?
PS: as an aside – interesting to note the proportion YES/NO in that “British” referendum was very similar to that in Russia at the time of dissolution.
Anonymous (May 15, 10:28 am UTC),
” The common people do exactly as the elites wish “. If you pointed out British referendum as a case study where common people were conned into supporting the elites’ wish, then your statement is ok.
But going back to the referendum of Soviet Union held on March 1991, the common peoples expressed their wish overwhelmingly to remain in USSR (which was surely against the AZ clique owned leadership of soviet ruling party)… So my point was true with that referendum – it was true that USSR citizens in 1991 did not want to break the country which they built with 25 million deaths in WW II. Today, when ‘Immortals’ march’ happens in Russia as part of Victory Day celebration, the common people remember the sacrifice of their forefathers to keep the USSR flag flying high !
“So my point was true with that referendum – it was true that USSR citizens in 1991 did not want to break the country which they built with 25 million deaths in WW II.”
Yes, I see that I entirely misread those results.
Of course since the dissolution occurred anyway it makes no difference to Göring’s quote which still applies more so i.e.“it is always a simple matter to drag the people along”
So what is your point? is it that “Russian’s” are not zombified but are powerless to do anything about the position of their elites succinctly expressed here http://www.globalresearch.ca/crisis-in-ukraine-a-retrospective-on-russia-and-the-dissolution-of-the-soviet-union/5393754
“The West missed, downplayed or distorted such Putin gestures as–his reverent attitude toward Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn;
–he defined Russian patriotism not in ideological “class struggle” terms as was the case under Communism but, in Solzhenitsyn’s words, as “love for one’s country, its history, people and traditions”
–followed Solzhenitsyn’s recommendation that the main task of the government should be “saving people’s lives” (the demographic situation has lately improved)
–personally lay a wreath on the monument to the victims of GULAG in Norilsk
–stated “History proves all dictatorships, all authoritarian forms of government, are transient. Only democratic systems are intransient”.
–far from wishing to come back to Communism Putin spoke against “the outrageous price our country and its people had to pay for that Bolshevist experiment”.”
“Only democratic systems are intransient” being more accurately described as the the dictatorship of the oligarchs.
Am I correct in assuming that the majority wished to retain the USSR, even though as localised entities with autonomy?
In that case, why did the USSR fold?
Stalin died and the helm was seized by the usurpers.
Isabella,
You are right ‘majority wished to retain the USSR’ … treachery of Gorbachev – Yeltsin duo brought down USSR (they were part of the two century old AZ conspiracy against Russian empire/USSR).
Treason.
This is indeed sad. I would guess that most of the top ranks of the army are Soviet trained since it is only 25 years since the end of the USSR. Similarly a lot of the lower ranks would have been brought up in that culture. We hear very little about the Ukraininan army. What are its core values? Has it been purged after the Maidan coup? Or is it intact and biding its time? What are the current linkages between Russia and the officer corp of the Ukrainian military? I would guess that it would be quite close for reasons of history and culture and also for strategic and security reasons.
I find it hard to believe that a country of 40 million would not come up with some political resistance, especially with an extreme politically ideology at the centre of government. Even if the best have left or died there should still be second and third tiers of leadership that would take up the slack. Maybe there is something but we are not hearing of it?
You may not be aware of reports that several thousand Ukrainian military personnel defected to Russia in many separate incidents in 2014. Many people fighting for Donetsk and Lugansk and portrayed in Western MSM as “Russian separatists” were actually former members of the Ukrainian armed forces.
In March 2014, thousands of Ukrainian troops stationed in Crimea defected to Russia alone:
http://blagaroon.blogspot.com.au/2014/03/ukraine-military-in-crimea-defect-to.html
“…you can make fish soup out of an aquarium full of fish, but you cannot make an aquarium full of fish from a pot of fish soup..”
Worth the price of admission. Very good.
Saker, I value your logic, but I do not get it, why should anybody from outside, like EU, or Russia, build up UA?
This is an ill-investment. So long CIA-State Department-Neocons control the country, every investment is build on the water.
The only thing Russia, or EU for that matter, can do, is to wait until the house of cards collapses from inside.
Then chop it into pieces and forget the rest.
And the territory, called Ukraine, will be Kiev and 200 km perimeter NortSouthWestEast direction.
Oh wait!
To say that Andreiy Parubiy has mental issues, would not be the path to his going scot-free for the Odessa massacre which he, no doubt organized/ordered?
Beware with these double-edged swords….we must keep an eye with thses specimens, many psychopaths are spared from punishment for their massacres due to misclassification as mentally ill!
“Bloodbath in Odessa guided by interim rulers of Ukraine”
http://orientalreview.org/2014/05/14/bloodbath-in-odessa-guided-by-interim-rulers-of-ukraine/
elsi,
Bourgeois ideology was correctly perceived by the Soviets as a manifestation of mental illness. The Ukros prove the point superbly; especially in the Rada. I suppose Andreiy Parubiy’s mental issues, if true, facilitated his promotion appreciably :-)
Saker: yes, you predicted this falling apart process almost two years ago. And it is painful to watch. What a waste of good land and good people. Perhaps this will be a cautionary tale for people of other countries ( Brazil?) when faced with an equally venal comprador elite and the hungry Beast.
Why is it that nobody will admit that Ukraine is only being kept afloat by use of ‘currency swaps” to support the Hryvnia. This means that either the Federal Reserve or the European Central Bank are buying all the Hryvnia necessary to keep the country from collapsing. Ukraine has now become “too big to fail” as a collapse of the currency will lead to a closure of the banks, shutdown of electricity. etc.; and a mass of refugees heading for Europe.
The concept of ‘currency swaps’ may be a little difficult to grasp. It is not a loan nor is it a grant of assistance. It is sort of like you agreeing to pay for all your child’s college expenses and not expecting to ever see that money again. When you are the only buyer of a country’s currency you have assumed total responsibility for what happens. When such country gets out of control and is ‘to big to fail’ then you have areal problem.
What is your opinion regarding the oil and gas industry in the Ukraine?
It was one of the best prospects for frackers in the Donbas but Shell and Exxon bailed out with failure of their “partners” in the conflict and the Saudi and US engineered price collapse. Alternative pipelines for delivering Russian gas exist only in people’s minds. There must also be some good offshore drilling prospects in the black sea.
Only tourism, agriculture and the oil and gas industry could pay any bills. Which can most quickly be revived?
Thanks for this strategic analysis. This is a classic example of what not to do. Unfortunately, examples are not enough to deter ingrained self-destructive habits. The example of Jesus and countless other martyrs has done little to stem the tide of humanity’s hell bent ochlocracy course.
Russia is holding her thumb in the dike, building her muscle and playing for time. But the pressure is building and if the levee breaks no boat gonna row and we’re back to Desolation Row.
The only thing holding back the flood is brute force and violence with a civilized veneer of left-over inertia from generations of relative sanity and morality. Ukraine is the proverbial canary in the mine.
The new uni-polar aspiration is still sitting on a minefield of unresolved ignorance about how we were meant to live. The old temples had “Know Thyself” on their front gates. Now we have gated communities of the rich armed to the teeth against pitchforks in the night.
There’s the real war for which these money-making decoys provide cover. Mob rule is already here; it’s just a question of relative size and sophistication.
There is an entirely different way which we once had and lost: the love culture of our origins. It’s been black-listed and blacked out but even black holes turn inside out and reappear as white wholes. It will take a little time but we can turn this world right-side up by going back to the future of love.
Interesting signal price from Canada’s national paper.

Synopsis: Donbass is awful. Who wants to stay in such a crappy place. The skies are bluer in Ukraine and that’s where the patriots are headed.
Anything russophobe Mark MacKinnon writes for the Globe & Harper Mail (as it was known) is propaganda and that rag always has a pro-Israel stance due to its ownership. Comparitively it used to be quite good at one time and you could easily ignore the pro-Israel bias but as Russia has risen so the G&M has fallen -to tabloid level. The only parts that may still be OK are the financial and ‘human interest’ ones and in the latter there are a couple of regular writers who are plain awful. Any comments that don’t fit the rags bias may get deleted -all mine do.
Canuckistani Banderastan is a sad, sad place under the misrule of Prime Minister Hairdo and his Anglo-Zionist Banderists from Harper’s cave hideout in Al Burdah.

Not sure where you get your information from Saker, but I’ve been living in Kiev for the past 2months, and traveling back and forth to Odessa, and I see none of the apocalyptic scenes you describe. Life goes on as always, lots more police and security forces than the last time I was here. Prices are somewhat inflated, but nothing too unbearable. The country as a whole has suffered a traumatic experience, but the people are resilient, and life goes on inexorably. As far as the bleak future you forecast, you really should visit this country and see for yourself before you pass judgment. Rich agricultural land, lovely landscapes and a 40million strong workforce. I don’t know how you calculate your figures and appraise property, but the Ukraine is a real jewel in any power’s possession. Somalia and North Africa are arid and desert wastelands, not much thrives there even without war. That’s why their value is always understated. But even those wastelands have geographic and resource value with regards to mineral wealth. The Ukraine is a virtual paradise even compared to Southern Europe. I passed through Spain on my way here, and its natural wealth is incomparable to Ukraine’s natural wealth. The fact is wars come and go, life goes on. The war in Ukraine is only ravaging part of the Donbass. Of little significance when you take the country as a whole. The rest of the country only feels this war by virtue of the economic downturn. Fast forward to 10years and only monuments to the war will remind the living it ever happened. Russia survived the terrible ’90s, even with Chechnya and all the banditry and looting that occurred. removed. No attacking the author with unfounded vitriol. Mod on Duty. will pretend Ukraine cannot survive a lesser tragedy. Especially with all the powers invested as heavily as they are, and America prints her own money, as does the EU. Your analysis has no foundation in reality.
Care to explain how the USUkrainians are going to be able to pay their utility bills, as they keep getting hiked up? It might be bearable in kiev, but what about elsewhere in the country where they don’t have much income?
You do know what the USG has done to the country economically, right? – I assume you are there temp, how many USUkrainians can afford to travel outside the country (obviously excluding the upper classes)?
Wanderer, Your use of the English language suggests that you are either British or a very well educated Western European. I would lay odds on you not being American.
Anyway, you seem to have witnessed the Ukraine of the rich, whereas I have contact with the Ukraine of the poor who struggle to buy meagre food, especially those on state pensions that are now worth circa 30 US dollars per month.
You also miss the mass eviction of people from their homes in the Kiev controlled Donbass region and the constant shelling and sniping of civilians of Novorossia. Many of them who are too old and poor to move to safety. They have spent months since the Spring of 2014 sheltering in dank basements without warmth or good food and clean water.
I suppose you are a tool of the West and are just parroting the US narrative in order to get paid. No sane and truly independent Western Traveller would be free to do what you say you do, so I am minded to think that you are indeed a Fellow Traveller of the US sponsored coup of 2014.
I suppose you are a tool of the West and are just parroting the US narrative in order to get paid
Same conclusion on my part. That is why I ignored him.
Thanks,

Wanderer looks like that Curt Doolittle guy (who runs the Propertarian blog) who infested Mark Chapman’s Kremlin Stooge comments forums for a while and then disappeared when he believed he had us all flummoxed with what he thought was brilliant insight and scintillating wit. We’re all still waiting for him to return and bedazzle us with stories about how he made his first billion in Kiev.
@ Florian
“I would lay odds on you not being American.”
But he might be a Trolling American.
@ Florian
You raised the issue of Wanderer’s origin based on his command of English. I’m not an expert linguist to offer an opinion because the text does not show the obvious tell-tale idioms/spelling to pin-point the country source. I dare anyone to make a guess.
Let’s try another tack. Wanderer said he (has to be a he, a she would have shown some common sense) passed through Spain on the way to the Ukraine, and that gives us some clue as to where he came from. There’s only one country from that direction – Portugal – but his English is too good for a Portuguese (they are really lousy learners). So that excludes the hypothesis of wandering overland to the Ukraine – too far to drive anyway – and I know a fair bit about that.
So, our Wanderer does his wandering up in the air and that means he came from across the Atlantic and whoever comes from there must do so on some kind of business. Summing up, our man came from North America (US/CAN) and, considering he’s travelling regularly between Kiev and Odessa, he works for the multicorps, the ngos or simply the gos like cia, statdept.
I know my powers of deduction do not qualify me a sleuth worthy of a Sherlock Holmes. Can you do better to unmask this seppo? Oops I already said it…
@ Wanderer
Your credibility as a commentator is much less than doubtful. Just to points for all to see:
“Ukraine has a 40 million workforce”
“Ukraine is a paradise compared with Southern Europe”
Ukraine GDP = $2,000 per capita
Spain = $26,000 per capita
Compared Spain because you gave it as an example.
You are either blind or just trolling.
Well, I acknowledge this post, in that life must go on, but I think the full reality of Maidan has still to hit home I would say next winter with full effects of service costs, rising crime lawlessness and unemployment. I do hope the contributor being in Kiev can visit the exhibition of photographs of the ATO and be aware that one of the photos claimed as a victim of the separatism is in fact a photo of Kristina and her child blown to bits by AFU shelling….maybe they could check out whether Kievans realise this, or seem at all bothered by any of the other thousands of atrocities and loss of property by looting, by shelling, acknowledging the tens of thousands that had their lives disrupted and became refugees.
Parisians have been stated to be aloof and separate from the French regions I wonder if this is a similar situation. If ukrainians aren’t really bothered……this confirms that claims for compassion for more funds EU association etc etc should just be ignored.
Hunter Biden, is that you?
I am not sure where you get your impressions, but Saker did not describe any apocalyptic scenes; moreover, he did not even mention the rich agricultural land (soon to be gobbled up by the West), the lovely landscapes (the ones not “reformed” by Kievan junta’s bombing) or the “40-million workforce” (consisting of some twenty million people), who would love to get out of Ukraine anyway.
Maybe because Saker is not a travel agent, but a political analyst, so he dealt with the political and economic situation, noting Ukraine’s general decay, which he did quite well.
With Ukraine’s increasingly come the news of the deterioration of the situation related to public safety and the aggravation of the crime situation.
Yesterday in Kiev on fire 9-storey building. The fire started on the balcony of the sixth floor and quickly engulfed the entire building. He was high-risk category was awarded. Since the beginning of this year in this country there have been hundreds of fires that claimed many lives.
And late at night, on Saturday, an unknown person threw the police administration building in Kiev Shevchenko district grenade RGD-5. The blast had knocked out three windows on the first floor. And on this floor there is a branch of the migration service. The motives of the offense being investigated by law enforcement agencies. While they are assessed as hooliganism. It is understood that the capital is somehow not “comme il faut” to recognize the possibility of terrorist acts …
In Kamenetz-Podolsk successfully completed an operation to arrest the maniac who stabbed with an awl women and girls. Blows he gets in, picked his victims from behind. Suffered the fairer sex at the age of ten to twenty-nine years.

While Ukrainian authorities continue to enthusiastically fight against his own people, the country is on the verge of a large-scale migration outcome. Official statistical agencies report that more than one million work permits for a cordon of the country was issued in 2015. For example, in Poland – 800 000, Italy – 300 000. On the other 27 EU countries modestly silent. Apparently, in order not to provoke a shock among the “Svidomo”.
Popular areas of labor migration are indicated, Israel, the US and even far-away Australia. For information about the so-called “aggressor country” – Russia will not be published. Meanwhile, in Russia until 2014, has traditionally accounted couple million official “guest workers.”
However, Ukrainians are moving across the border, not only because of economic survival reasons. Gaining momentum and educational migration – around 60,000 Ukrainian students in the past year went to “gnaw granite of science” in Polish universities, 25,000 more – in German, then, as they say, on the list. And not the fact that enriched European knowledge, young specialists will rush to return to a country where crime and corruption flourish.
It is already known that the Ukrainian IT-companies in droves to open their offices in neighboring countries and transferred to the whole staff. There, where the comfortable work due to high wages, stability and social security. Not to mention the fact that the military actions in the Donbass have an additional negative impact on the development of high-tech industry in the country.”

The European Union bears direct responsibility for what is going on in Ukraine today.
It was stated by the director of the Kiev Political Researches and Conflictology Center Mikhail Pogrebinsky at a press conference in Kiev. According to him, the European ruling elite deals doubly in the course of implementation of the Minsk agreements.
‘I consider myself to be a European and I believe that today’s European ruling elite bears responsibility for that nightmare which is being endured by our unfortunate country. Therefore, I have no hope that any correct words and actions will be taken by this elite today,’ noted the political scientist.
At the same time the expert drew attention to the fact that these days in the European mass media there is observed a stream of unprecedented anti-Russian propaganda which didn’t occur even in the days of the USSR.
‘There is no common sense, no attempts to understand the situation. Everything that I hear from the Europeans now, is an eyewash. I would believe that they want something, but there are no real efforts to set this process. How many times Steinmeier, a serious politician, told already that alleging you have time till July. It is already clear that the law on elections won’t appear till this time. And what do they tell after a meeting in Berlin? Such a process is complicated; it is difficult to agree upon the law on elections. Didn’t you know that the process was difficult after a Paris meeting a month ago? That in order to come to agreement it is necessary to do something in Kiev? He knew perfectly about it. And therefore they will further play such a double,’ resumed Pogrebinsky.

The Secretary General of the Council of Europe urged Kiev to ensure safety of journalists working in Donbass in a letter sent to Ukrainian President Poroshenko.
On May 10, the Ukrainian website Mirotvorets (Peacekeeper) disclosed the names, phone numbers and E-mail addresses of more than 4,000 journalists accredited by the republics of Donetsk and Lugansk authorities to cover developments in the conflict zone. The leak contained names of representatives of CNN, Agence France-Presse, Reuters, the BBC, New York Times, Vice News, Al Jazeera and other media, reports Sputnik.
This case was brought to my attention by prominent European journalist associations and freedom of expression organizations that have collectively submitted an alert to the Council of Europe Platform to Promote the Protection of journalism and Safety of Journalists, of which they are partners, Thorbjorn Jagland’s letter read.
Jagland pointed out that he was concerned by the “particularly worrying” fact that the publication was supported by some politicians, including members of the Ukrainian parliament.
He recalled the need to respect the European Convention on Human Rights, as well as standards related to the protection of personal data, adopted by the Council of Europe.
Moscow condemned the publication, saying it was a violation of international legal standards, in particular, the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, as well as Ukraine’s domestic laws.

Observers of the Ukrainian situation often hear about the background players who often influence the conflict in Donbass. Today we take a closer look at the money men whose greed is never satisfied no matter how much money or blood is spilled.The Ukrainian oligarchs are a group that quickly appeared on the economic and political scene of Ukraine after it’s break from Soviet leadership in 1991. As of 2008, the combined wealth of Ukraine’s 50 richest oligarchs is equal to 85% of Ukraine’s total wealth, showing the upside down income inequality of modern Ukraine.
Numerous Ukrainian Oligarchs have “taken over control” of political parties (examples of this are Party of Greens of Ukraine, Labour Ukraine and Social Democratic Party of Ukraine (united) or started new ones to gain seats and influence in government, often these parties are Nazi oriented in belief. The rise of the oligarchs has been connected to the processes of corrupt sale of state-owned assets. These processes usually involved the distribution of property titles of such enterprises, land, and real estate, on equal base to the whole population of the country, through instruments such as privatization vouchers, certificates, and coupons. Given the different preferences of people in relation to risk-adversity, property titles were easily re-sold. Businessmen who could provide fast cash to collect such property titles could thus easily buy the property of former public holdings.
The most notorious of these agents of exploitation and death include recognized names like Poroshenko, Akhmetov,Kolomoyskyi,Tymoshenko, or Pinchuk. None of them could ever accomplish their criminal achievements in the Western nations without being arrested and imprisoned. Some like Poroshenko are not simply Oligarchs, but also foreign agents operating on behalf of American governmental and business interests. The United States cultivated many of these people from 2004 forward in anticipation of overthrowing the Ukrainian government and replacing it with people like these who had an obvious stake in the West. It is safe to say all of these people have absolutely zero loyalty to Ukraine or the welfare of their citizens. Their loyalty is to the dollar, their western masters and offshore bank accounts.
In Donbass, one guy stands out like no other. Rinat Akhmetov — owner of London’s most expensive home, a deluxe £136.4 million ($221 million) penthouse property in London’s One Hyde Park. His mother was a shop assistant and his father a miner. Both were Muslim Tatars, an ethnic minority in Ukraine.The media shy multi-billionaire began massing his fortune during the lawless early 1990s as entrepreneurs vied to construct a new financial order from the ruins of the Soviet Union. Yet, despite the era’s culture of dog-eat-dog gangsterism, Akhmetov claims he made his fortunes on lucky gambles alone. “I earned my first million by trading coal and coke, and spent the money on assets that no one wanted to buy. It was a risk but it was worth it,” Ukrainian media has reported him as saying.
That almost American version of personal initiative has a darker side though. Others, however, claim the oligarch’s big break came in 1995 when his mentor, Akhat Bragin, was killed along with six of his bodyguards in a mysterious bombing. A Donetsk police chief, Vyacheslav Synenko was convicted in for murdering Bragin in 2005 after confessing that he committed the crime whilst working for a rival mob, but the former law enforcer later protested his innocence in jail. Akhmetov is said to have inherited a vast financial empire from his dead business partner, an alleged mobster, including Shakhtar Donetsk soccer club — which was renovated by the steel and coal giant to host games during the Euro 2012 soccer tournament.
Akhmetov’s fortune’s really took off once he made the leap to politics. As a member of the Party of the Regions and himself a parliamentarian from 2001 to 2006, the billionaire is reported to have used a system of patronage to exert considerable influence over several deputies in the house. According to Bloomberg, after helping fund the former-president’s election campaign in 2010 Akhmetov won five government auctions for some of the country’s biggest thermal and power generators and distributors — boosting his wealth by $3 billion in six months
Investigative journalists in Ukraine have repeatedly identified Akhmetov in shadowy connections with the criminal underworld and backroom deal-making, but the oligarch has strongly denied and even sued over the allegations. In a report by the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs Akhmetov was identified the as the potential participant in an organized crime syndicate linked to money laundering, financial fraud and numerous fictitious companies. In a leaked 2006 cable, then US Ambassador to Ukraine John Herbst, called the Party of the Regions a “haven for Donetsk-based mobsters and oligarchs” and named Akhmetov as the “godfather” of the clan.
Before the outbreak of the Ukraine crisis Akhmetov was the undisputed King of the East, controlling the region’s lucrative mining industry and dominating the political sphere via his patronage of the Party of the Regions. Now, with his political cronies lying low or hiding out in Russia and his bid to play kingmaker between the separatists and government in the east failed, the oligarch, himself living in exile in Kiev, has found his business interests under threat and friends in the capital few and far between.
In the early days of the east Ukraine conflict Akhmetov called for “calm” and “compromise” whilst engaging in behind-the-scene negotiations with the leaders of the independence movement in a bid to quell the unrest. But the break-down of talks in the build-up to Ukraine’s presidential election forced the once-most-powerful man in Donetsk to flee his heartland when armed men and supporters of the independence movement surrounded his deluxe gated-house on the outskirts of the city. Driven out of his home, the east’s coal giant has now thrown his weight, and money, behind Kiev, calling for a united Ukraine.
Ukraine’s billionaires are losing their cash, especially those with significant assets in the Donbas, an area that has become a battlefield between Donbass freedom fighters and units loyal to Kiev. According to Forbes’ 2015 billionaires list, Rinat Akhmetov, Ukraine’s richest man, has lost as much as $5.8bn over the past year. The mining, steel-making, energy and heavy engineering units of Akhmetov’s SCM Group have been forced to halt operations or reduce their capacity in territories controlled by separatists or near the front line. The Group’s media, telecommunications and banking businesses are also feeling the effects of the war by Kiev upon the new nation states of the DNR and LNR.
On October 13, 2015 the head of the DNR Alexander Zakharchenko signed a law imposing introduction of personal sanctions against the President of the country 404 Petro Poroshenko, the oligarchs Serhiy Kurchenko, Igor Kolomoisky Boris Lozhkin and Rinat Akhmetov. The sanctions were imposed in connection with activities of the oligarchs and their control structures financing military aggression in Donbass and efforts they utilize to destabilize the socio-economic situation in the Donetsk People’s Republic. Under the law, these persons are not allowed to own property or to carry out financial transactions on the territory of the DNR. For violation of the law, individuals are subject to arrest, incarceration and confiscation of assets.
While other nations seem perfectly happy to allow the uber wealthy oligarchs to determine their foreign policy, micro manage their lives and exploit them for gain, residents of Donbass have taken positive steps to control the oligarchy and restore the democratic principle of one person one vote. Future generations will look back on the Donbass example as a way society can better manage the rights of all, against the greed of a few.

In Ukraine it is necessary to forbid Ukrainian Orthodox Church under the Moscow Patriarchate as an antistate structure. It was stated by the TV host Ostap Drozdov on air of the Lviv TV channel ZIK.
‘The Moscow Patriarchy is actually turned into such a pro-Russian organization which conducts broad activity in Ukraine. Sometimes openly anti-Ukrainian which professes the disrespectful relation to the Ukrainian language, avoids the word Ukraine and doesn’t recognize participation of Russia in terrible events, and some its representatives bless separatists,’ claimed Drozdov.
The plans of the Ukrainian patriots were specified by the member of the battalion ‘Donbass’ who was present at the studio, the head of an initiative ‘Down with the Moscow Patriarchy’ Vitaly Oleshko.
‘They are the terrorist, extremist organization, and that’s it. We have to be through with it as were through with the communists. Over 25 years there was going on a discussion concerning Lenin and communists in Ukraine. Everyone was afraid to offend elderly ladies, were afraid to launch a civil war. But f*cking hell, what is going on? Well what of it? It was forbidden, and in a year already nobody remembered about them. This year in Berdyansk there came out some 100 mad elderly people, even though they had been warned for May 9 – they were called to the executive committee, they were told – guys, if you go out with St. George… the very same Colorado rags, we will beat you. And we will beat painfully, without regard to age. They understood,’ stated Oleshko.

Excellent JJ; you work so hard for all of us and for truth.
“It is crucial to remember that there was no spontaneous revolution or insurrection in the Ukraine”
I think this is mostly an incorrect assessment, although definitely not way off the mark. History provides us with a most credible precedent to illustrate the fate of today’s Ukraine — to wit, Czechoslovakia in the 1930s. Yanukovich, like his partner in misfortune Beneš, were minor statesmen on the international stage, representing distant, rather insignificant regions of the West officially professing neutrality vis-a-vis Russia/the USSR. As crisis struck the West, however, Germany went “exceptional”, embarking on a land-grabbing spree eastwards. Nazi agitation was promoted in the German-speaking parts of Czechioslovakia. It brought violent insurrection and chaos which Beneš and his government were unwilling to address appropriately. Like Yanukovich later on, being a reliable partner of the West took precedence over national self-respect and decency. Beneš could have saved his country from the heinous Munich accord by asking for Soviet protection in accordance with the bi-lateral treaty between the two countries but, of course, never did so. He surrendered unconditionally and then went unresistingly into — yes — Western exile. Czechoslovakia was instantly gang-raped from abroad with the ecstatic approval of Konrad Henlein’s supporters.
Long story short: The Maidan shitstorm was, in part, a spontaneous revolution/insurrection in the sense that the foreign rabble-rousers had correctly located the most fertile soil for their reactionary, treacherous, and chauvinist propaganda. Honestly, it was really courageous by Yanukovich to refuse to bow to foreign colonial diktat, even though it was too little, too late. What happened next speaks volumes about the Ukros as a people.
“Euromaidan had nothing to do with Europe and everything to do with the USA.”
Makes no sense. Of course Euromaidan was the brainchild of US imperialism, but the equally rotten corporatocracy running the EU happily went along. The Maidan was a concerted effort by Western imperialism to seriously blackmail Russia by catapulting Nazi fanatics into power in a large, neighbouring country. The ultimate goal is the same old Western wet dream of burning and looting Russia; there is no difference between the US and the EU whatsoever in this regard.
“The Ukrainians were promised a future looking like Germany and, instead, they got Somalia. There is going to be hell to pay for all those who were involved in this gigantic deception.”
Wrong. Banderastan is a resurrection of Yeltsin-time Russia, further “improved” by drooling Nazi slobs and other certified human garbage. And I wouldn’t be so sure the joke will be solely on the Ukros either. Could well turn out the latter are in fact setting the template for Western Europe as neoliberalism descends into outright anti-civilization.
Euromaidan was the false promise from the EU, the EU knew it could never afford to take on Ukraine, and pour money into like with Poland. As it was, it was primarily a USG project to contain Russia – in line with PNAC – and cause it problems, with minimal cost to the US, using a proxy state.
As for ‘the EU happily went along’, no the EU did not go ‘happily’ along with it, only the likes of Britain, Poland did, there were others who didn’t want to, but because of immense USG pressure the EU (as a whole) capitulated.
While you are correct that the biggest “villains” of this story are the US,Poland,and probably Britain (in that order). Germany,Lithuania,and the Netherlands,were neck deep in this insanity too (also probably in that order). Of course those that “benefited” (for now) are slightly different. The neo-nazi Ukrainian nationalists (at most 10% of Ukrainians) were the big winners. They saw their dreams of power come true (economic benefits are another matter,but that’s another story). The US gained as well. They’ve had their dream of “containing” Russia enhanced. And gained much more power over Europe today (any economic benefits for them is another matter as well ). And the neo-con Russophobes in the countries mentioned have all benefited as well. Their power is absolute in those countries today.The losers are a different matter. The vast majority of Ukrainians have utterly lost. And the peoples of the EU and even the “local elites” in those countries have “lost”.But the benefits to the “winners” is far more important to them than the economic losses to everyone else.
Some would say (I see it here all the time),that they are standing on quicksand,and will lose in the end. Maybe that’s true. But we miss the point thinking that way. They don’t consider the future. If they did,we wouldn’t see them do what they do. Their ideology is a “here and now” ideology. And when they are old and die,they don’t care what follows them.Here and now,they are rich and powerful,and that is all that matters to them. As for particularly the neo-nazis of Ukraine. Nazism and its descendant “neo-nazism” are both “death cults” (we can add zionism to that as well,the Masada story is part of their death cult ideology). They feed off of power and killing,and the “future” is only a “word” to them. All their heroes and idols died a “glorious death” fighting for their “cause”. And that is their ideal of “patriotism” to the nation. So while we as “rational” thinking people see the problems in Ukraine as disastrous. They,the neo-nazis see them as “ideal”. They can control governments. The police and military are run by them,or knell to them,or fear them (or all three at once).Their ideology is approvingly broadcast throughout Ukrainian society by the media. And taught as historical truth to Ukraine’s youth. Seeding the soil for future Stephan Bandera’s to arise. They can rant until their voices fail about the “evil” Moskals and “satanic” Putin. So for them “what’s not to like”. If it wasn’t for a few “pesky” economic problems (which don’t affect them personally much),they’d be in “hog heaven”.
We need to stop thinking that our surviving this crisis,is the same as “winning”,its not,its “surviving”. Winning is when the neo-cons are defeated. The neo-nazis are driven from Ukraine. NATO is stopped from constantly plotting war against Russia. That is “winning”,surviving is just that,surviving. And so far,I don’t see any of those things happening. We may (or may not) have the “future”. But our enemies “right now” have the “present”. And that needs to change is we are to “win”.
Benes didn’t have a country, just a French colony, courtesy of Versailles.
Yes, that judgment seems quite fair in retrospect. At least Beneš himself was a spineless Western lackey to boot. All the massively fortified border defences just given away to the enemy so as to please the West where he cowardly took refuge at the same time.
Ukraine was one of the most developed soviet republics. A highly industrialised economy, mineral wealth, vast agricultural land, educated workforce , significant research institutes, good strategic location, etc.
Nowdays, is one of the poorest post soviet states, maybe Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan are poorer (but they were also poorer in 1991).
What the hell happened in those 25 years since the end of soviet union ?
The export of women is a major business now.
Ukrainian women are regarded as strippers and mail order brides.
That’s a shame …..
On the other hand, Belarus seems to be in far better condition as Lukashenko has retained a soviet style economy.
Ukraine wealth is looted by a few Zionist oligarchs. With the domination of Ukraine by USA, the austerity measures , and the donbass war, it is certain that Ukraine will become a third world country. American multinational corporations will dominate the Ukrainian market and ukranians will move as cheap labour into western countries
If American women were attractive they would be exported somewhere these days too. All that saves them is their breathtaking ugliness, which they wisely augment with a dress sense to match.
The Outlaw US Empire’s actions in Ukraine cemented the survival of Russia and its union with China. Despite all the harmful intent directed at Russia, it’s arguably stronger today than at any point in its history. What remains of the state of Ukraine will likely break into ethnic pieces. How it survives the meltdown of the Capitalist paradigm and associated Climate Chaos awaits to be seen as already being primitive will be an advantage. All the Neocons involved deserved to be hanged beginning with Obama, Biden and Clinton.
“Now, it is absolutely irrelevant to argue about whether Hillary was right or wrong in her interpretation. what matters is that she, and her political masters, really believe is that Putin wants to re-create the Soviet Union”.
The crucial point is, of course, that even if Hillary was right and Putin did want to re-create the SU – what right has she to intervene as long as such an act cannot be proven to be a “clear and present” danger to the US ofA. ?
I don’t know that they do / did believe anything. I think they have been angling for a break with which to attack Russia for decades – and they believed that here they had it.

Acc. to Eric Zuesse, should Killary become president, plans to take Crimea may well eventuate.
Empire continues to escalate on all fronts;
Heavily US censored Macedonian portal, iNFOMAX.mk reports, according to Serbian ‘Informer.rs’, Putin warns that the “West is preparing new Balkan War” due to begin in Republika Srpska ( BiH ) to be followed by Macedonia and finally, Serbia.
Dimitar, Informer serve the same masters as PM Vucic-US via German connections. Have you ever seen how he holds his hands, just like Angela Merkel? Whatever they say take with a sack of salt.
Although Empire will try to escalate and taking into account that Informer is pathologically incapable of saying one thing without lying this leads me to the conclusion that their plans for Balkan are not going according to their plans. It looks to me that they are quite unhappy that protests in Banja Luka yesterday have gone without violence and are just scaremongering. Pushing someone to make a wrong step prematurely.
Unfortunately, based on Putin’s comments yesterday in that meeting with defense ministers, he is focused primarily on maintaining the “strategic balance” of power with the US. He stated this is “the most reliable guarantee” against large-scale military confrontation.
What does this mean? Isn’t he saying that Russia cannot get involved in conflicts unless it is to defend this strategic balance of forces with the US? No comfort there for those already under attack, and in need of support from the international community.
I have also noticed the way Putin treats Merkel. I have convinced myself that Germany is up to something, which is off the radar of the CIA, NSA, FSB, MI5/6, IDF etc. I also think Putin believes this and keeps trying to get some signal from Merkel, or all his other German visitors, as to what it is (being the trained KGB man that he is.) I even convinced myself that Germany is going to smash the EU, and the AngloZionist empire (since this is the only way to save Germany). I convinced myself that these are Putin’s famous “Western partners”. He keeps talking to them to ensure these German revolutionaries do not blow up Russia when they make their move on the Empire. I also convinced myself that these German revolutionaries are the sole reason why Putin does not move on Europe. Thus, this stagnation we experience right now.
Please keep giving us updates, Dragan. When the campaign against Yugoslavia first started, I believed the MSM story completely. What heroes we in the West were, I thought! Now, I am so ashamed of that.
The phrase “strategic balance of forces” is very reminiscent of strategies during the Cold War. However, there have been significant changes in the relationship between the US and Russia since that time. Force balance strategies make sense only if both sides are committed to maintaining them. The US is pursuing a very aggressive posture at this point. There may be risks if Russia’s position is interpreted as weak or passive.
Thanks Dragan. Would it be fair to say that the US support for Vujcic is conditional on his expected recognition of Kosovo? This is the case in Macedonia, as US sock puppet Zaev has signalled that he will change the name, and openly courts radical Albanian/Islamist separatists.
Not being up on the subtleties of Serbian politics, I’m interested in what Vujcic’s support is based on as far as US interests go. While Vujcic has made nominally friendly overtures to Gruevski, he’s been pretty cool in so far as the so called color revolution in MKD goes. While he’s made no statements of support for the opposition nor has he condemned their openly wanton destruction.
Meanwhile, Greeks, Bulgars and Albanian/Kosovo politicians have all thrown in their lot with Empire. Latest “mediator”, German ambassador to Austria, Haindl, stopped in Athens on his way to Skopje last week before meeting separately with political leaders in MKD, and then flew directly to Athens after his departure from Skopje which is clear evidence of Greece’s involvement in the coup attempt in MKD, and its primary aim of aquiring the name Macedonia.
In fact, the seat of power of current coup attempt in MKD, is in Austria, with major actors US ambassador to MKD, Jess Bailey, EU Amb. Aivo Orav and Greek ambassador Lalakis, enjoying a reuinion of sorts as the three amigoes were all present in Turkey in 2011/12 during coup attempt @ Taksim at the time.
“Would it be fair to say that the US support for Vujcic is conditional on his expected recognition of Kosovo?”
It would be pretty accurate and fair to call him a sock puppet for he is one. But for him to recognize Kosovo and still hold reins of power (which he like sooo much) he first need to try to make it at least to look legitimate if he is to rely on the support of the police and the army to stay in power. But even then it is not safe to presume they will obey him if he betray us like that.
First step toward that legitimacy is change of the constitution and exclusion of Kosovo from the list of our territories for which he needs 2/3 of the parliament. Last step is to crown that betrayal with a signature from the president Nikolic, to give it another layer of legitimacy. That step is the only reason why Nikolic is president if you overlook his role in disastrous representation of our country as a laughing stock for foreign dignitaries, something like Yeltsin in his days.
I do not see if the Empire is pushing him to recognize Kosovo independence right now or is saving that push to coordinate it with some other plans to greater effect, latter is my bet though. But the problem is that we have many like Vucic and Nikolic that would gladly jump in their shoes. My take is that Empire is having not one but whole team in reserve. Something like DOS int the time of MIlosevic. So, he can be replaced if he agrees to recognize Kosovo independence before he change the constitution and still there is a good chance that some other puppet will just take his place and continue on the same course. Just as Vucic continued Tadic’s course. But as the time goes by that chance is lessening. Will we catch up with the rapid changes? We just might.
“Not being up on the subtleties of Serbian politics, I’m interested in what Vujcic’s support is based on as far as US interests go”
Greatly trumpeted project Belgrade on water is being build with wahhabi money. USAID is involved in Smederevo in the destruction of steel mill there, our greatest,… What is actually happening is that all our industry is being dismantled for years now. Our resources are being sold away, one of the main reasons why Kosovo got their “independence” is that it is rich with minerals. All that is covered with the lie that investments are pouring in. Which they are not. We are being sold lie that we have peace but truth is that we are occupied. Vucic’s support is based on media support and people’s hopelessness induced thru confusion. In essence, Empire is rewarding their vassal Germany by allowing them to plunder us and that goes well with political elite in Germany which makes them more pliable for further US demands from them.
Regarding Macedonia, beware of those separate talks, snake tongues work best in that kind of environment. Regarding seat of power of current coup attempt i urge you to look up Alois Mock and Hans-Dietrich Genscher. That duo helped butcher Yugoslavia and not just start the flames of war but fuel them also.
On Balkan there are two dominant groups that kept interest and maintained their networks so they are best positioned to do the dirty jobs assigned to them by the Empire now. Although they intended to use that position to better themselves and not the Empire. They lost the bid but they did not surrender the intent.
One is based in Germany and Austria but they do not represent their people. Some kind of Germanic alliance or something. That is the shape they adopt, what is their essence i cannot say.
Other is Vatican. Beware if Albanian Catholics join the fray, that will signal Vatican’s support.
These two groups have the biggest networks, intelligence, educational, media, financial, industrial,… in the Balkan Peninsula. Although,going more south i would not exclude British influence thru Greece.
I wish you unity in your struggle.
Thank you for this detailed insight, Dragan. In Serbia, too, same actors, same intrigues, same intent…
In Macedonia US is now upping the ante by directly engaging the Albanians for the next stage of the game. Gruevski’s former partner in the ruling coalition, The Democratic Union for Integration – amnestied war criminal from 2001 conflict, terrorist Ali Ahmeti’s party – little more than an Albanian fifth column whose membership is lodged in the administration of the Macedonian state like an enormous parasite, is leading the charge to re-convene the parliament which DUI themselves called to dissolve in anticipation of upcoming elections on June 5. This of course at the behest of the US ambassador Bailey, who has ordered all oppostion parties and their satellites to abstain from participating in the elections.
Gruevski has stated that the elections will proceed, even though VMRO DPMNE is the only major party participating. Albanians along with opposition SDSM, have made known that they want the parliament re-convened, even though the constitution forbids it, warning that all of their “unsolved issues are now on the table and demand resolution”! US and EU warn that if elections go ahead they will not be recognised, however, Macedonians see the upcoming vote not as a normal election but as a referendum for a unitary Macedonia, where Macedonians have any sort of voice in their own country. Gruevski has stated that further, more regular elections may be held at a future date, aware of this final chance to turn around the brutal course of events. Bar some mega-outrage cooked up by the US/Shiptar union, hopefully they will proceed.
This briefly is the situation atm. really things are on a razor’s edge.The US wants the Macedonians to come to blows ala Ukraine and then enter as “mediator”, with innocent by-stander Albanians who are now fed up with the long standing Macedonian stand-off and are finally claiming their just right to half of the country, as the Macedonians have proven to be unable to solve their internal conflict! Impose a new federal constitution etc. etc. However, all Macedonians are aware of the farce at play, who is instigator of the putch, what is at stake and are not buying into it!
Likewise, best to all freedom loving Serbs, we’re in the same boat and should never forget our historic connections and enemy. Best, D.

A fresh article by the head of Centre for study of the contemporary crisis on Balkans of the Russian Academy of Science Dr.Yelena Guskova, titled “Serb Republic: a coloured revolution postponed?”, discusses the present political situation in Bosnian Serb Republic (Republika Srpska) and the background of the two mass rallies held on 14 May 2016 in RS capital Banja Luka.
She also refers to Putin’s warning that the West is preparing a Balkan War, targeting first Serb Republic, then Macedonia, and then Serbia (as reported in “Informer” of 13 May, http://www.informer.rs/vesti/politika/70898/PUTIN-UPOZORIO-ZAPAD-SPREMA-BALKANSKI-Prva-redu-Republika-Srpska-Makedonija-Srbija ), and says that no other than George Soros was behind the opposition protest.

““Spontaneous” gatherings of citizens are not at all spontaneous. Every “spontaneous” gathering resembles the previous one. As it turns out, all these “spontaneous” meetings of various groups of people are made in the same kitchen. The “yellow ducks” of the “We won’t give up Belgrade” initiative are mingling with the yellows from the Democratic Party (DS).
On this note, yesterday in Belgrade the meeting “The masks have fallen off” was organized over the demolition of three illegally built facilities in Savamala. Although this meeting was presented to the public as a gathering of ordinary citizens, the masks really did fall off as it is now clear that the fingers of the Democratic Party were involved in this.
Officials of the Democratic Party, which barely crossed the threshold in elections, took advantage of this “spontaneous” rally of the “We won’t give up Belgrade” initiative to cover up its disastrous election results.
The demonstrators wielded flags, humorous slogans, and shouted “Our city” and “Resign.”
If the posters that the citizens carried are carefully analyzed, it is clear that they resemble the posters carried at the rally of the census coalition which took place on April 30th in Belgrade on the eve of the re-election. Vandals gathered at the edge of the protest in front of the parliament and threw toilet paper at the institution.
Even worried and smiling DS officials appeared at the “spontaneous” rally of “We won’t give up Belgrade.” The DS promoter and actor Branislav Lečić showed up accompanied by a smiling Balša Božović.
The appearance of the posters of the citizens who gathered proves that such spontaneous rallies are organized in one kitchen. Identical placards can be seen at every protest.

“ATO Businessman”: UAF volunteers waiting to seize plots of land following “liberation” of Crimea, have no interest in Donbass
May 14, 2016 –
RusVesna –
Translated by J. Arnoldski
The famous activist and entrepreneur of the “ATO market”, Roman Donik (in the photo below), has said that many of his friends among the ranks of occupation forces in Donbass are not planning for their plots of land promised by the punitive operation in the hope that they’ll receive them in the future, re-conquered Crimea.
“I personally know about fifty ATO’ers who are not hurrying to gain any strips of land. They say that they’ll get them in Crimea. All the contractees fighting will go to liberate Crimea,” he reported on his social-network page. The proposal was met with enthusiastic approval among his internet flock in Central Ukraine and, especially, Canada.
“And they will choose there [Crimea], where they like it!” is an example on one of his raving reviews.
The “ATO businessman” replied the following to the quite reasonable objection of Crimeans themselves: “Better care for your plots and homes. Our boys haven’t come to live there yet. While you’re roaming the streets with your icons, the General Staff has begun to form the 60th Mountain-Infantry Brigade of the UAF. The Crimean one, made up exclusively of volunteers.”
Russian Spring would like to remind Mr. Donik what these plots of land look like in reality:

*Correction*: Ukraine is between those 3 and … – the one number #1 who orchestrated all this after having longed for that day and prepared/financed it over half a century!

Word just came in that Ukraine has triumphed in the prestigious Eurovision song contest with the singer Jamala (past luminaries include Conchita Wurst)- looks like things could be looking up for the country after all.
Russia has requested that the Ukrainian song be disqualified as it breaches the Eurovision ‘no politics’ stipulation, the song “1944” being about Stalin’s persecution of the CrimeanTatars.
Here’s an idea, how about a Jewish singer enter a song, say with the title “1941” which describes Hitler’s “final solution” back when. The Jewish singer coud say, as ‘Jamala’ the Kyrgistan born singer said, “it changed my grandma’s life forever,” and in that way circumvent any German/European complaint? Or maybe not, because as we know one rule applies for “civilized Europe” and another if you’re Russia, Belorussia, Serbia, Macedonia etc.
Although I never watch Eurosvision and have no interest in doing so, to me the Uki “victory” smacks of politics, which good ole Europe never fails to pass up on, especially if it can blacken Russia or any of the other aforementioned unfavorable countries/peoples.
You mean the Propagandavision song contest ? It’s nothing but politics nowadays, and everybody sings in english, despite Europe having 30 ? different languages.
Ergo, the Konchita Worst win, a self congratulatory pat on the back for Europe’s “diversity”…
I suspect that the Nazi regime was put in place to make certain that Ukraine never fell apart. The US neocons will keep the Ukraine dead body artificially alive, like a zombie, to keep pressure on Russia in its hybrid war. They could not care less about the Ukrainian people – not even an afterthought. But they do care about destruction of Russia and its eventual partition, and will maintain any effort, monetarily or otherwise, required to sustain that pressure.
@ Victor
That’s a sobering reminder that the Empire can keep the smoldering ruins of Ukraine barely alive for many years to come while Russia will be hard put to sustain the Donbass resistance. Besides, the longer Ukraine remains on the brink of doom, the easier it will be for the corporate takeover of its resources. Its almost always win/win for the thinktankers of the Anglozion cabal.
Victor is absolutely correct that the US/EU don’t care in the slightest about the Ukrainian people. But that does not mean they will not be a factor. But that doesn’t mean the don’t have to take them into account. The nazi rulers can keep Ukraine under control only be stirring up anti-Russian hatred, but that only works so long whem people are hungry. The combination of fascist brutality and the EU’s psychological trinkets (Look, Ukraine!! Eurovision!!! Europe really does love you) will sooner or later lose its charm.
I also have to disagree with the premise that fixing Ukraine will be so expensive that Russia won’t bother. Once Ukraine realizes Europe is a pipe dream and they are nothing but useful idiots to be discarded after they are no longer useful, then they will return back to the Russian space where they belong and will be welcomed. Russia will take them back, just as the father rejoiced at bringing home his prodigal son, because the value of bringing home 40 million Russians will far exceed the cost. Ukraine was much worse off in 1945, but the USSR did not say “Wow! Ukraine is totally messed up. Might as well let the nazis keep it.” And Russia won’t say it now.
You are right that nationalism will only work for so long, but we probably disagree on how long that might be. I would say the US has a good track record of keeping horrible and unpopular governments in power, including with civil wars. What matters is not the wishes of the commoners, but the plots of those in high places, such as the SBU, military, or police. And this is where the US shines.
As for the costs, you might have noticed that the Russia of today is not at all like the USSR of 1945. It is a liberal and oligarchical place that is not on an industrial and scientific binge. They are not going from the plow to the atom bomb quickly, in other words. They are still living off the fat of the Soviet legacy, and the criminals who destroyed the old system are at the top today – just like in the Ukraine. Thank God Putin and some of his allies have some power, or else all would be lost. But to think that Russia could afford to pay for the Ukraine seems incredibly optimistic. Russia can’t even industrialize and modernize inside her borders, do you really think that finding tens of billions of euros to build up a competitor is possible? The Ukraine in 1945 meant food for the USSR. If anything, it might mean no food today. A big reason for this whole disaster in the Ukraine is that the West thought Russia to be pathetically weak and unable to resist in any way. That may have been a miscalculation, but the weakness is real.
I’ve never lived in Russia, not Russian so can’t comment on corruption at the top. But from my vantage point without a doubt, Russia of today doesn’t look anything like the Russia of 1999. Maybe not wooden plows to nuclear power, but certainly in the right direction and at a decent pace (though we all wish it would be even faster.
Yes the west can keep a dead body animated for a long time. Russia will have to do some work here. I’m sure they have great secret services and must have penetrated high levels in the Ukraine by now. Maybe they need to learn a few color revolution tricks of their own. Or relearn, as the old USSR knew some tricks back in the day.
As for Russia not being the USSR of 1945, we’ll, that gives both ways. I’m not going to heap praise on the Euro fascists of 1941, but can you even compare the German army of today to the old Wehrmacht? Can German soldiers today blitzkrieg their way to Stalingrad and then fight to the death in frozen conditions??? I bet they couldn’t fight their way through Poland today. And the US army sure isn’t what it was in 1945 either.
And Russia doesn’t have to sink billions into Ukraine. The future legitimate government will simply declare all the debts of the couple government to be void and start from scratch.
So Croatization of Ukraine was success.
Congratulations…

Haha, I suppose the God-awful Euro-Trash Song Contest has cheered up the proud people of Ukraine accordingly. Haven’t bothered about this imbecilic utter non-event for decades myself, it was with refined amusement I read that the winning Ukro garbage was very much a political ditty.
Instant conclusion: The Ukros were pre-selected this year. They would have made it with some even worse crap about Holodomor, MH17, annexation of Crimea, and what-have-you. The ESC is becoming as preposterous and despicable as the Nobel Peace Prize.
I say an article by Eric Zuesse a couple of days ago on Strategic Culture Foundation saying oBOMBa wants to take Crimea by force and if he doesn’t do it then Hitlary will. The Anglo-zionists have long since lost touch with reality and collectively continue to operate in a Uni-Polar delusion while President Putin and Russia operate in a Multi-Polar Reality. The AZs consistent with their mass psychosis are a Kakistocracy, permeated with people who are Pedophiles and Child Rapists (see the Hastert Scandal on Boiling Frogs Post and the Corbett Report) and saturated by hubris. They are Crusin for a Brusen that they will never forget.

“Israel’s national jury gave no points to Russia but 12 to Ukraine, the Israeli public by contrast put Russia second. It’s also worth pointing out that Ukraine public also put Russia first- showing that anti-Russian hostility is in the country is very much elite-driven.”
Very interesting.
Indeed, that tells a lot. Perhaps there may be redemption for Ukraine.
Thanks for your short summary Anonim, that’s all I really need to know (I didn’t watch it).
Sometimes, I wish more commentators would give a short paragraph summary of the lengthy articles they post.
Dear Saker,
Your grammar is wretched! Some of your commentary has the ring of Trth (“rings true”), and I think generally makes for an enlightened
readership.
Speaking of corruption, let’s take a lok at our own country for a little
while. Isn’t it ironic that our own country, which in the very beginning
came into existence in a valiant and desperate global battle against
empire (the British Empire), has now fallen into such disrepute and infamy as to become a self-deluding global hegemon!
Will this empire succeed, even in the short term? I don’t think so,
and certainly hope it won’t. because it is so evil and malignant that, if there’s a loving God in Heaven, He won’t permit it!
Look at the nations we have destroyed since the days of John F. Kennedy—Vietnam, Afghanistan, Somalia, Iraq Libya, and now trying our damndest in Syria! In my view, as a fairly well-informed former lowranking military officer, much of whats been done by the
so-called “military industrial complex” is both villainous and treasonous!
At one time, I was glad I was born in the United States, but no more.
Back in the 1970s there was a comic strip called Pogo. I’ll
never forget the one cartoon in which Pogo proclaimed, “we have met the enemy, and he is us!”
God bless you, James.
God bless. . .
Anti-Russian spin has migrated from soccer and doping to entertainment, Ukraine won the song contest and RT is full of it. Nothing more serious than this?

I’m surprised to see no mention of Nuland’s late April trip to Kiev where she addressed the Rada and urged the jailing of those that were “ripping off the Ukrainian people”. Also no mention of the IMF funds being held up, no mention of the increasing European impatience with sanctions on Russia and no mention of Nuland’s remarks to Congress before her April trip.
It is obvious that patience is wearing thin with the whole ‘Ukraine project’. The attitudes of its benefactors surely must be given some weight in any analysis. Whatever happens in Ukraine will be influenced by outside factors as much as by the internal ones.
Below is a report from Ukrinform on Nuland’s comments to Congress.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
http://www.ukrinform.net/rubric-poli…re-nuland.html
Washington believes that Ukraine will root out corruption and total dependence of its economy from the oligarchs in 2016.
US Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland said while speaking at a hearing in U.S. Congress, the Ukrinform’s own American correspondent reports.
“We continue to believe that 2016 can and should be the year when Ukraine will be set free from the unholy alliance of dirty money and dirty politics that has robbed Ukrainians for far too long,” said Nuland.
She noted that U.S. and the IMF backing for Ukraine would depend on reshuffling the central government, breaking away from substantial influence of oligarchs on Ukraine, as well as of anti-corruption reforms, notably in the General Prosecutor’s Office and the judicial system in general. She said that given the current political instability neither the U.S. nor the IMF could continue to provide financial assistance to Ukraine, the Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs stressed.
In connection with this, she noted that this situation will continue “until we are convinced who will be our partner on the other side of the negotiating table.”
Nuland also said that delays in Ukraine reforms are directly affecting the security situation in the country as well as guarding peace in the region.
maybe the last two lines mean that ukr is messing up US intentions to escalate and orovoke the situation perhaps with more false flags against Rus as much as possible.
10 military aircraft have gone missing because have been disassembled and sold off illegally for parts reported last week by anna-news!
Dear Saker,
what is missing in your analysis is the situation about the new General Prosecutor of Ukraine.
They even changed the law so that Jurij Vitalijovyč Lucenko, who has no formal education in law, could become the new General Prosecutor of Ukraine!
He was the former party leader of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc [which merged with the UDAR party, which had been heavily supported by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (a German political foundation largely financed by German government funds)] and the former leader of its parliamentary faction.
He was also a leader of the Euromaidan. He has promised to escalate the investigation of crimes against Euromaidan activists.
When Darth Waltzman*), who begs for money and arms in the West under the stage name “Petro Oleksijovyč Porošenko”, appointed his aide as the General Prosecutor of Ukraine, he defended the removal of the requirement of a law degree as necessary innovations in order to restore public trust in the office of the General Prosecutor.
This is really like appointing a crime boss to investigate police brutality.
This has also been harshly criticized in Ukraine, e.g. by deputies of the regime’s governing coalition (such as the Self-Help party), as well as by the European Union.
I consider this an apt illustration of the decay into which Ukraine has “progressed”.
*) whom I often call “the top feudal overlord of Ukraine
UKRAINE WINS THE EUROWEENIEVISION CONTEST WITH AN ANTI-RUSSIAN SONG!!!!!
Thank you Europe.
You are making the world safe for demoncracy and freedom, one EuroVision contest at a time!!!!
The final of the international song contest, which took place on 14th May in Stockholm, was won by the Ukrainian singer Jamala (she is also half-Armenian, but opted not to sing about the genocide at the hands of the Ottomans – O.R).
Ukraine should call the North Atlantic Alliance and the UAF to start preparing Sevastopol to hold “Eurovision” in 2017. This was stated by the Director of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance Volodymyr Viatrovych.
Співорганізаторам Євробачення-2017 у Севастаполі – ЗСУ та НАТО – варто почати підготовку до фестивалю:)
— Volodymyr Viatrovych (@viatrovych) May 15, 2016
As a reminder, following the results of jury voting, Australia was in first place. The audience gave their vote to the Russian musician Sergei Lazarev. However, Ukrainian singer Jamala won the required number of points to win the competition as a whole.
http://www.fort-russ.com/2016/05/ukraine-urges-nato-to-prepare.html
What is left out here is the the Ukrainians did not destroy themselves as stated here in differing forms and statements. I can illustrate this by describing the MH17 passenger pane crash massacre. At the time of that massacre, just before it was Washington ordered to be done, Washington had ordered Angela Merkel to order the EU to sanction Russia for “invading Ukraine”, something she knew they had not done. They had saved the world from Nazi-ism. She made her “No” clear. Meanwhile the Netherlands King and his brilliant Queen had decided to visit Putin about the US State Department and Congress marching through Kiev dispensing sandwiches and advice in Ukraine, the two Kiev and Odessa massacres with US Intelligence sharpshooter troops everywhere smacking of an US intent to begin WW111. King Willem and Queen Maxima were “recommended” (ordered) not to to to Putin. They went. Washington sent out the order to bring down MH 17 to teach the lesson “No” to USA is not allowed. As with their Atomic bomb multiple lessons to Japan, the orders based on the US/Israeli “beneficial genocidal assumption” the rest of the globe does not accept, yet. All those herein described in Washington actual think tank power passionately subscribe to ‘beneficial ethnic cleansing’ i.e. genocidal wars, and are human aberrations themselves for so doing..The writer here states nothing at all about the intense US involvement in erasing Ukraine itself. Has to be done as if by Ukraine itself for US war power’s credibility of innocent Democratic assumptions behind everything they do or order done. Long gone since before Harry Truman. The crack US pilots who flew the last part of the MH17 death flight under the wings of the doomed and all dead, passenger plane to direct where the corpses were to be ejected through straw roofed small hamlet UKR houses before being flown to the civil war field it would crash to earth in, were dressed in Ukraine pilot uniforms. No Ukrainian pilot could have been trusted to fly the two support fighter jets.
I always wondered why a plane from the Netherlands was brought down. Seemed like a strange choice for a planned operation! Your explanation sheds some light on that.
The writer of this states the the dissolution of Ukraine is it’s own fault. This is exactly what the US leading it’s Western satraps wants the globe to believe.. and it they do not to lie, lie, lie. Or else another MH17 will happen with ease…as with the shotdown Russian be-header fighter jet by Turkey.
I wa unable to send my rant but before it was erased, I asked to be told where commenters to your blog can find and reread the comments we have sent in? None of mine seem to be at all available.
Are any getting to where your blog purportedly sends them please?
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has recommended the appointment of ex-Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk as head the Ukrainian Embassy in Russia.
A petition appeared on the official website on May 13th.
“In my opinion, the only worthy candidate for the post of Ambassador of Ukraine in Russia — is Andrey (author messed up the name of Yatsenyuk ed.) Petrovich Yatsenyuk. He is currently unemployed, (don’t know if it is registered in the employment center as such, but it doesn’t matter). The main thing is that in Russia, as the Ambassador of Ukraine, he will have immunity, and at the same time, the Russian authorities are afraid of him, and if they are afraid, it will mean that he as the Ambassador of Ukraine in Russia obviously has the ability to achieve things in Russia, which is useful for Ukraine for both the practical and legal consequences of the relationship,” stated the text of the petition.
even someone from Azov says ukr is in ruins
This “Azov” founder of the regiment, outspoken neo-Nazi and racist, and now a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Andriy Biletsky said in an interview with the Kiev magazine “Krajina” ( “Country” – Ed.) In response to the question, “Does the Ukrainian government merges Donbass”.
Literally: “The government is interested to freeze the current situation – said Biletskiy.- This will allow it to last longer. In that case, you can be accused of any opposition, that is the – the fifth column, and declare martial law. The main thing – not to fight really because, God forbid, there will be war with Russia! So we listen to the stories of catholicity, but seeing the deflection. ”
“People are tired of the whole – recognizes Biletsky. – But I will not be a positive prophet. I do not think it would end some Maidan, radical changes. Society must be honest to see the situation. We are facing a precipice in social, military, state plan. It is necessary to break down the old system and build a new country. In another way. This is not a patch up and not painted. This – the ruins. ”
“Just after the May holidays, a mission from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) plans to visit Ukraine from May 10-18. The Ukrainian government and the informed public pay great attention to this event, and rightly so. Ukraine is likely to obtain a much delayed credit of $1.7 billion by mid-June. The beauty of the IMF is speed, competence, simplicity, and wealth.
On March 11, 2015, the IMF offered Ukraine a four-year credit of no less than $17.5 billion. A first tranche of $5 billion was disbursed instantly, and a second tranche of $1.7 billion followed somewhat delayed, but then a long hiatus has ensued.
Among international organizations, none has greater impact than the IMF. Nobody acts faster than the IMF. If a country is in serious financial jeopardy, an IMF mission with a wide mandate arrives within a few days. No other international organization has as well qualified (and well-paid) officials as the IMF; they typically have a PhD in economics from the best universities in the world.
The IMF mission establishes a few major conditions that can and should be fulfilled within a couple of weeks. The government has little choice but to sign. If the conditions are complied with, the IMF executive board will convene about two weeks after a mission has been completed, and the day after its positive decision, the whole promised tranche will be disbursed. The principle is simple: You do what we have agreed is good for you, and we give you big money instantly. The IMF’s financing has been scaled up to meet the needs.
Other international organizations are very different. They are slow; they put forward many conditions; they offer little money; and at the end of the day it takes a long time for the money to be disbursed. Therefore, everybody pays more attention to the IMF than to anybody else. In addition, if the IMF does not approve of a country’s economic policy, the World Bank is not allowed to disburse, and the United States and the European Union are unwilling to do so.
When the next IMF tranche is disbursed, the United States may provide a loan guarantee of $1 billion, and the European Union another macroeconomic finance tranche of $650 million. However, both have a few additional demands, notably that Ukraine reforms the Prosecutor General’s Office, which may not happen. Altogether, Ukraine could receive credits of $3.5 billion in one package. That would boost Ukraine’s international currency reserves to some $17 billion, which would be sufficient to allow the National Bank to start liberalizing its strict currency regulations.
Few large organizations are as easy to understand as the IMF. It is an organization that acts in accordance with principles; it is far less politicized than other organizations; it has few and clear criteria implemented by objective and well-educated civil servants; and it is strictly hierarchical like an army. It focuses on a few major indicators: the fiscal balance, public debt, current account balance, and the exchange rate. In order to get this right, it adds a few—but only a few—major structural reforms.
By IMF standards, Ukraine’s situation is pretty straightforward, although the third tranche of the IMF loan has been delayed since September. The most important criterion is the budget balance. According to the Ukrainian government, it has improved from a deficit of 10.5 percent of GDP in 2014 to 2.3 percent of GDP in 2015. These numbers are close to unbeatable, quite at level with the Baltic countries in the global financial crisis in 2009. But the IMF had to wait for a budget for 2016 and tax amendments to be passed.
The second criterion is monetary and exchange rate policy. Ukraine has let its exchange rate float, which has eliminated the previously large current account deficit, while the exchange rate appears to have stabilized. The foreign balance is no longer a concern in spite of the extraordinary Russian trade sanctions.
The last major condition was that Ukraine needed to have a government that could negotiate and implement the agreed upon policy. The IMF mission is coming as soon as the government is in place and ready to receive the IMF.
The Ukrainian parliament needs to pass a package of nineteen laws, involving public administration, deregulation, corporate governance, extending the list of state companies subject to privatization, and elements of judicial reform, to satisfy the IMF. Prime Minister Volodymyr Groisman has promised to have them adopted and seems to have secured parliamentary support.
The IMF greatly appreciates Ukraine’s energy reform. On May 1, the Ukrainian government finally unified both gas and electricity prices. After a quarter of a century, Ukraine’s influential gas traders can no longer buy the state through privileged arbitrage. No previous Ukrainian government policy has done so much to reduce corruption. Basically, this decision to unify prices should be sufficient for the IMF to offer the Ukrainian government a new tranche of $1.7 billion. Ukraine needs it badly to be able to start economic recovery.
‘A recent national survey conducted by the International Republican Institute (IRI) found record-level public dissatisfaction regarding the country’s overall direction—a level of frustration that rivals the pre-Maidan period. Seventy-six percent of Ukrainians told pollsters the country was headed in the wrong direction in February 2016. Similarly, as previously reported, IRI’s March 2016 nationwide municipal survey, which contains the perceptions of more than 19,000 Ukrainians from twenty-four major cities, revealed that more than 90 percent of Ukrainians believe corruption is a significant or serious problem in their community, and frustration with Poroshenko and the parliament stands at troubling levels.”
“By creating a government of two, the Poroshenko Bloc and the People’s Front barely cobbled together 226 votes between two factions in order to meet the formal criteria of a coalition. Taking into account that parliament will never have 100-percent attendance, the coalition will need a cushion of twenty to thirty votes at a minimum.
With Self Reliance, Fatherland, and the radicals in the opposition, the coalition’s only fallback will be the oligarchic clubs among the deputies, be they People’s Will or Renaissance. It is the oligarchs who will be the main beneficiaries of a weak prime minister who is forced to rely on a weak coalition. Every vote will involve a payment, whether it comes in the form of a job, access to funds, a contract, or a state-owned enterprise. A parliament full of single-mandate winners can’t function any other way.
This is why the new government is doomed to corruption scandals. The worst part is that a parliament full of single-mandate winners who have tasted the fruits of the state’s coffers will be incapable of changing the election law on its own. They will only do this under pressure from the street or Western donors.
Ukrainian corruption isn’t just a malignant tumor; it’s become Ukraine’s dark calling card in the world. This is one of the main reasons Ukraine failed on the Dutch referendum. According to a poll, 60 percent of Euroskeptics voted “no” because of corruption in Ukraine. The Panama Papers involving the President only strengthened their case.
Time is up for Ukraine’s President to convince society, politicians, and Western partners that he’s prepared to fight corruption. Every day of delay proves the opposite. By not interfering, Poroshenko only proves that he is the main beneficiary of the status quo.
Iran will put Iraq back together? Don’t you know what the bourgeoisie are like, Saker? There’s a lot of oil in Iraq and Rafsanjani is not minded to give it away to a bunch of Iraqis just because it’s their country.
The reference to Africa is demeanting, come on.
It’s a good article on the whole but it would be better without the inconsistencies.
As stated by Doctor of Economic Sciences Sergey Korablin, according to rough estimates by international volume settled in offshore funds of Ukrainian origin range from $ 117 billion (Global Financial Integrity) to $ 167 billion (Tax Justice Network). The equivalent of this is 1.5-2 per annum Ukraine’s GDP (GDP – gross domestic product – a macroeconomic indicator that reflects the market value of all final goods and services produced in the country – Ed.).
The estimate of annual losses offshore Ukraine amounts to $ 11-12 billion, which is equal to the volume of loans received from the IMF Kiev within the last two programs (2014-2015.). In other words, if the funds are not exported from the country, the Ukraine would not have to borrow.
“As for the rich countries and the states – members of the EU, they put on each employee in fixed assets … in 18-20 times more than ours – says Ukrainian scholar. – And easy to see that this gap is increasing annually … Calling a spade a spade, it is – a road to nowhere. With such statistics, Ukraine need to worry about getting into the group of the poorest countries in the world, and not in a rich European Union. If so, the question arises about the outflow of her billion in offshore – not too expensive for a poor country, so even with European ambitions? “.
Not a secret, and for the European Union that the money allocated by the IMF and EU financial assistance to carry out reforms in Ukraine through a variety of corruption schemes in part simply stolen. And then members of the EU Budget Control Committee decided to descend to Ukraine to check on May 16-17.
“MPs who are members of the Committee on Budgetary Control, will visit Ukraine within the framework of the audit of financial support for the mission of stabilization and reform in Ukraine by the EU since the revolution on the Maidan,” – said in the European Parliament.
The visit program will consist of two parts. The first part of the visit will take place in Lviv region. Its purpose – to observe the EU-funded project, and cross-border cooperation with the EU. The delegation plans to visit projects outside of Lviv; states, inter alia, to cities such as Drohobych or Sambor and villages such as Morshyn, Shortbread, or Luke, where EU projects have been completed.
The second part of the visit will take place in Kiev. In the capital, members of the delegation will meet with representatives of the central government – the Verkhovna Rada and the newly sworn-government representatives.
During the meeting, members of the mission take an interest, as Ukraine fights against systemic corruption both at the central level is the EU financial management. The Verkhovna Rada Committee members will meet with their counterparts from the relevant body in the spirit of the recently signed cooperation agreement between the European Parliament and the Verkhovna Rada.
The delegation will meet with representatives of anti-corruption bodies established after the Maidan. In addition, to meet with representatives of civil society, the bodies supervising the fight against corruption and the journalists who work in the field of investigations.
Whether the mission will show the real state of affairs or “Potemkin villages”, it is anyone’s guess. We hope that after the visit of the mission will provide an exhaustive commentary.”
This convinced Donetsk pensioner, which did not manage to draw the pension Ukrainian and the mother of a disabled. The fact that her 90-year-old mother barely moves and go to the Ukraine is not able to, and she can not leave her.
Earlier this year, still leaving the old woman on the neighbors, the woman gave way to the familiar to Ukraine to arrange the payment required on the two pensioners. Ukrainian officials demanded a bribe. And considerable, because the amount of pensions already accumulated at that time for 18 months. This procedure is an elderly woman has managed in 8000 hryvnia, which she won in humans. But then the former head of the pension fund decided to get rid of extra pensioners. In short, neither she nor her mother had not received a penny of Ukraine and forced to live out their lives from hand to mouth.
After all the mishaps woman called to their friends in the Zaporizhia region, which designed the pension, and asked to take back the money that gave nothing. And then PF employee clearly explained that the bribe went upstairs to the top … It turns out that the right to see Mr Rozenko. Then miraculously, Mr. Rozenko begins to advance in employment and becomes deputy prime minister.
And now the Verkhovna Rada Committee Secretary for Social Policy and Employment Natalia Veselova told that interesting picture is observed in Ukraine. The DNR and LNR massively started returning migrants, as a pan Rozenko opened them hunt, announcing ahead of time crooks. They are massively deprived of benefits by conducting a so-called verification, ie verification of the material well-being. To date, 40 thousand displaced persons remained officially 9000 in Ukraine. For that, there are disclosed database. But pensioners are not transferred to the database. They are deprived of benefits without any explanation. In Ukraine, there are rumors that the scam with the “dead souls” – allegedly pensioners who have left, and he was involved the current Deputy Prime Minister …
“According to the famous Ukrainian economist, market-oriented reforms of the Center President Vladimir Lanovoi funds received from the IMF will not help Ukraine to strengthen the national currency. The expert believes that even if the IMF to resume cooperation with Ukraine, it does not help the Ukrainian economy. According Lanovoi, the money will be spent only on repayment of critical payments, such as the purchase of gas for the passage of the next winter season.
“Do not they affect and tariffs, which for two years have increased ten-fold, – the economist said. – And all because that the NBU failed financial and monetary policies. As a result, now that the money was enough, the government is pumping them out of the population. At the same time stopped the investment. I think that even the IMF does not know the way out of this situation. And nothing can not advise, because they do not govern our country and they need to strengthen the hryvnia. Therefore, the situation is hopeless. ”
According to the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Pavel Rozenko, the Ukrainian government debt to pensioners Donbass, who live in the territories beyond the control of Kiev, 10 billion hryvnia, which in dollar terms is about $ 400 million.
Rozenko convinced that Ukrainian authorities are not to blame for the fact that the residents of Donbas not receive social benefits. He was confident that his right to a pension and other benefits people can realize by moving to a permanent place of residence in the territory controlled by Kiev. Rozenko said that pensioners will receive the money owed to them, when Ukraine will return control over these territories.
“Ukraine owes pensioners Donbass more than 10 billion hryvnia. But the Ukrainian government is to blame for the fact that people did not get the money, “- said Deputy Prime Minister Pavlo Rozenko, speaking at a briefing in Kiev. And said that it was thanks to the cessation of payment of pensions and social benefits to residents of Donbass, Ukraine monthly “savings” of about 700-800 million hryvnia, and a year in the state budget can not save about 7 billion hryvnia.”
Concise dissection by Wayne Madsen of yet another smarmy US tactic, imposing “soft power” ops. usurping cultural/ sports events, media/entertainment, in order to smear political rivals, namely Russia; case in point EuroVision, etc.
Here in Canada, I call this the “being a jerk” strategy. And I consider it the fave tactic employed by the Empire. Around here, I see this on the local level (this is the view through my eyes only, no research). Say there is a charming, local coffee shop or restaurant and the Empire or local rep (oligarch) wants it. Probably to replace with a Starbucks or something similar as part of the monopolizing of everything. Suddenly swarms of our precious color revolutionaries arrive (whom I call pinheads, and if that makes me an A hole, I accept that). And become repeat guests. Regulars, even. They behave in a way which corrupts or significantly alters the experience of being in this place. Petty harassment of the place, causing disruption to the owners also goes on frequently. Like the mafia, they loyally perform to make it theirs. Sad. Unproven. Conspiracy theory. From an A hole in a tin foil hat in Canada. :-)
extract from long article re EU Ukr trade association ending with
“In a special statement, EU officials informed their newly-minted Eastern partners:
“The EU considers that Ukraine’s increasing duties on its exports of metal scrap would represent a trade restrictive measure contradicting both the spirit and the letter of the multilateral and bilateral commitments the country has undertaken. In particular, under the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) with the European Union, Ukraine has committed itself not to introduce new customs duties on exports and to dismantling existing ones over a transitional period.”
The EU warned that if Ukraine went through with this, it would no longer be able to count on Europe for further aid. In the end, on Friday, May 13th, Poroshenko was compelled to impose a veto on the adopted law.
Ukrainian industrialists and officials have full recognized that although the agreement with the EU must be fulfilled, unconditional friendship with the EU, when they beg them for forgiveness and are made concessions, is already in the past……….
In 2014, for the first time Ukraine sold less domestic gods than it imported. In 2015, once again the share of imports increased, and it is likely that this same pattern will go on, this being so even despite the triple devaluation of the gryvnia over the course of the new government’s reign. The Ukrainian market has gradually come to be controlled by imports. The more time goes on, the more the Ukrainian government feels not the pluses, but the minuses of European integration. At the beginning of the year, precisely for the benefit of the free-trade agreement with the EU, Ukraine reversed incremental import duties on imported goods, which before generated 15-20 billion gryvnia yearly for the state budget. But at the end of 2015, European officials announced that Ukraine had already received all the money provided for it by the agreements, and that Ukraine should no longer rely on handouts from the EU. Now the minuses are really being revealed in the form of lost business revenues, budget pitfalls, and lost jobs.
But that’s not all. The so-called “grace period” will also end very soon, and Ukrainian producers will have to adopt new European standards. According to calculations, this will require as a minimum 100 billion gryvnia over the next few years.
In short, the euphoria of European integration has passed, and now weekday work has begun. The lump of problems which seemed small and distant in 2013, has come all the closer and grown into a big tumor. But this is not stopping the “reformers.”
Even the scandal of the free trade zone between Turkey and Ukraine has not been able to be escaped, as the Turkish “brothers” have decides that “friendship is friendship, but business is business.” The same problems arose for the Ukrainian delegation concerning the same agreement with Canada. The free trade zone was agreed upon, but once again without considering any Ukrainian interests. I would like to ask these wonderful reformers: “Why do you need these ephemeral ‘victories’ which with a probability of 100% will merely turn into more ‘defeats’ in the near future?”
The pitiful result
In general, the calculations of European Union officials have turned out to be correct. Stronger and better-defended European business is beginning to penetrate Ukrainian markets and, the more it does, the more Ukrainian ones are pushed out. The quotas, standards, bans, and other innovations of European integration imposed upon Ukrainian business have already chipped away at its revenue, and further losses will only continue. The step-by-step appearance of European companies working on raw materials on Ukraine territory (such as the automobile industry) which the Ukrainian authorities love to be proud of, first of all do not compensate for even a tenth of the jobs lost and, secondly, in their work schemes do not provide any revenue for the Ukrainian budget.
The conclusion is sad but nothing new. Based on existing results and trends, the destruction of Ukrainian manufacturing will be the main outcome of the free trade zone between Ukraine and the EU. You’ve finally made it!”
Moscow insists that the condition of Kiev’s repayment of a $3-billion debt to Russia should be included in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) assistance program to Ukraine, said Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov.
Earlier the Russian finance minister said Moscow had given Kiev additional time to reassess realistically the situation around the repayment of $3-billion debt to Russia and start fair talks to settle the issue, reports Sputnik.
At present, we, as a sovereign creditor, in preparation of the new program of the revised IMF program on providing Ukraine with loans, will defend the interests of inclusion in this program commitments of Ukraine to Russia… If this is not done, how can we support such a program of the fund.
What prevents Russia to restore order in the Donbas – Oleg Tsarev
What prevents Russia to restore order in the Donbas – Oleg Tsarev | Russian spring
The famous Ukrainian politician, ex-chairman of the Parliament of New Russia, Oleg Tsarev talked with the publication of “to Lenta.ru» of Kiev’s policies and the situation in the Republic of Donbass.
“To Lenta.ru”: – What will change in Ukraine with the appointment of a new government of Vladimir Groisman? Can we expect to improve the socio-economic situation?
Oleg Tsarev: – The main result of recent political crisis, I believe that Petro Poroshenko managed to concentrate in their hands all the power. On the way to this he was able to put the squeeze on the Americans, the oligarchs, push opponents at home.
The final chord was the election of May 12 Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko President godfather. Poroshenko got carte blanche, and took control of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Supreme Rada and over, and over the security forces.
Opponents of Poroshenko – [Igor] Kolomoisky and [Arseniy] Yatsenyuk – have tried to confront him. In particular, with their opposition to I connect active promotion in Ukraine scandal offshore companies with Panamanian President. The whole campaign is not accidentally started in the moment when the head of state went to the talks in the United States. The aim was to weaken it so that he could not agree with the Americans.
However, he and the Doge Americans achieved their goal. The main argument is that Poroshenko has increased his powers, it was to eliminate the threat of the country sliding into anarchy. Yes, it is moving toward a dictatorship, but Americans have never opposed the dictatorship, when the dictatorship will act in their best interests.
– What this means personal success Poroshenko for the Ukrainian people?
– Go to the interests of the Ukrainian people, all this political struggle has nothing to do. It’s about control of financial flows, in particular, the major players are preparing for the emerging final privatization.
One of the consequences of Ukrainian revolution and, as a consequence of the Civil War, and the severance of economic relations with Russia is the depreciation of assets from the oligarchs. Today their assets pledged against loans taken in foreign banks, less credit themselves. In fact, they are bankrupt.
Save the oligarchs could only urgent purchase at low prices of new assets in order to get them abroad under the new loans, which are due to cover the old ones. The sale should go to the ports, railways, nuclear power plants, agricultural land.
As you know, the global banking system is designed so that in the end the whole Ukrainian property should change with the Ukrainian owners in overseas. Initially, the agreement with the oligarchs were already former Prime Minister Yatsenyuk. The assets have been distributed.
For example, Kolomoisky had to pick up the Odessa Portside Plant, a number of companies. Yatsenyuk their suit, his appetites were smaller than those of the President, so the oligarchs supported the head of government in the fight against Poroshenko.
All media Kolomoisky actively fanned the Panama scandal, the work was carried out around the world, paid for an international PR campaign against President Poroshenko. But he survived, reached an agreement with the Americans, and those have leverage over the Ukrainian oligarchs who keep their money in Western countries.
Now all the oligarchs have come to an agreement Poroshenko. Kolomoisky and others control their deputies, give them guidance. This president was able to make the Prime Minister personally loyal to him Groisman, appoint Lutsenko.
– What are the prospects for this configuration of power?
– At the moment the Americans against abrupt changes. Such is the logic of the presidential elections in the United States – the outgoing President should not leave the problem the next head of state. Therefore, Russia will now be patted on the shoulder, to talk about a possible lifting of the sanctions, even rollback in oil price can be.
But this is a temporary situation! In the administration of the new American president will have a plan for Ukraine. Now Moscow has received a temporary respite, it is important to use this short time to solve domestic problems, restore order in the economy.
With regard to the Minsk agreements, I was not surprised at the lack of results from the meeting of Foreign Affairs Ministers of Normandy format. For Ukrainian power of life and death, in the full sense of the word, is not the recognition of the armed conflict in the east of the country’s civil war.
If the war in Donbass – not a war with Russia, and internal civil conflict, the beginning of “ATO” army involvement, forced mobilization, shelling of cities of Donbass – is not only a gross violation of the Constitution of Ukraine, but it is a crime for which there is no statute of limitations. And the leaders of the country – the war criminals, and all the dead, both military and civilians, as a result of the conflict on their conscience.
The representatives of the Kiev authorities, like parrots, will speak about Russian aggression in the East. At the same time that they get into a logical contradiction, they do not much care. If Russia – the aggressor, it is necessary to break off diplomatic relations with Russia and to declare war. Moreover, the most logical, to start the “liberation” of Russia with the Crimea. After that, in the Crimea, in contrast to the Donbas is acting Russian army, Russia does not hide.
But fools no one thing – to fight in the Donbas with invented by the Russian army, and another thing – to face the present personnel of the Russian army in the Crimea.
That was signed by representatives of the Minsk Agreement placed the People’s Republic, and so put the Kiev government in a difficult position.
And if the Minsk agreement to perform, and the Donbass will represent legitimately elected representatives, then, in the case of attempts to impose its will on the Donets Basin, and to impose it can only be armed by, as is obvious, including Kiev, that the supporters of the Kiev authorities in the Donbas not, militias, renamed to the local police, will give a fitting rebuff.
Even if at some point, the border will be transferred under the control of Ukraine, all understand that if necessary, to re-release it to militia – the People’s Militia – a matter of one day.
But, if the Minsk Agreement are met, then Kiev will have to deal with the legitimate representatives of Donbass (As for me, I am sure that the legitimacy from Zakharchenko and carpentry greater than that Poroshenko). This means that in case of conflict, it falls under the definition – “civil war”, and the government’s actions under the definition – “a war crime”.
Thus, in the case of implementation of the Minsk agreements, Kiev is on the twine. Fascist regimes are kept at bay, stable only if there is only one point of view, do not share that state or death squads eliminated. In the case of the creation of uncontrolled power of the enclave in the East , despite the fact that it is impossible to physically crush, making mode is very unstable.
Minsk agreement forced the Europeans, and they can not refuse to perform in public. But they can not perform. All this is well understood, both in Ukraine and in America.
That is why I am not surprised that the case will not move. If the Americans really would like to see implemented Minsk agreement, it would Nuland today sitting in Kiev, and talking to deputies, the heads of the factions, the oligarchs in a rigid form.
Arguments are many – the threat of prohibition of entry into the EU, lending in foreign banks closing, confiscation of property and seizure of accounts abroad. State media and media oligarchs slave, from morning till evening, if would be really posed such a problem, saying that the Minsk agreement must be kept. We do not observe.
Thus, it can be summed up in the fact that Kiev and the US still sufficient time, at least until the US elections, will keep the rhetoric that Minsk agreement must be fulfilled, but to implement them by voting in the Verkhovna Rada of the amnesty, the special status of the individual areas, changes in the constitution, the electoral law in the Donbass, will not.
At the same time to organize large-scale attack, they also will not be, so as not to run into a counter-attack. But the limited military operations on the border with the Donbas, obviously, will continue for the reason that the first item of the Minsk agreements is a cease-fire. Failure to comply with the first paragraph makes it possible to delay the fulfillment of others.
– In Ukraine, still periodically declare themselves radical nationalists, extremists. Why the West does not oppose this?
– Here the situation is twofold. On the one hand, to Poroshenko, and given the opportunity to concentrate power in his hands, so he strengthened the state. He slowly from the Nazis already freed, but completely remove them from the scene will not be. Thugs have on hand is convenient. We must deal with the “opposition bloc” or Vasya Volga (the leader of the “Union of the Left” – Ed.). In other some opponents?
And supposedly “public outrage” does it. President throws up his hands: “What can I do? It’s not me, it is other people. ” Radicals do not disappear completely, but will work on a team, within strictly defined borders, performing the role carried out death squads in Latin America.
– Relationship with Russia will change?
– No hope for this feed is not necessary – Ukraine will Russophobian spirit. Just Russophobia is no amateur, and sanctioned, state-run. Russian and Ukrainians with non-official point of view, it would be no better.
– Actively manifests itself in the Ukrainian political arena Saakashvili. It is clear that he has great ambitions, limited to the Odessa area, he does not want to. What are its prospects?
– He has a good chance to get into the top echelons of the Ukrainian authorities. His second personal rating after Yulia Tymoshenko.
We must understand that every more or less serious Ukrainian politician today has its American curator. Someone working with the Democrats, someone – a conservative, someone connected with the State Department, others are working with a specific officer, someone CIA “roof”, as, for example, Nalyvaychenko (former head of the Security Service of Ukraine – ed. )..
At the same time between the curators themselves is a serious struggle. Because of this, various incidents occur. Thus, the curator of the former Finance Minister of Ukraine Natalia Yaresko told her that her candidacy was approved for the position of head of government. That has already become to make any arrogant statement, but in the end Groysman government has not kept even the position of Finance Minister.
Saakashvili problem stems from the fact that his supervisors in the United States today is not at the helm. The second difficulty – his lack of his political strength. He had his ranking once converted into a movement to gain a foothold in Ukraine.
– Yulia Tymoshenko will be able to return to power?
– She has not only a high rating, but its own political party – the party of “Fatherland”. Yes, in Parliament it has only 25 members, so it is not intended to be any serious positions. I know that she Groisman in forming the government offered to enter the Cabinet. But she felt that she should even increase the rating, in opposition to the government than to take the post of a deputy minister or minister.
– What’s in the near future awaits Donbas? What will be the fate of the region?
– In fact, the residents of Donbas now become hostage to the uncertainty caused by the Minsk Agreement.
If in Moscow came clear that these agreements are not executed and will never be satisfied, then Russia would have to be more seriously to direct order there, responsible approach to recruitment, alignment of the vertical of power.
If the agreement will be carried out, it becomes a part of Donbass of Ukraine, which means that Moscow and there is no need to address some issues in the region. The uncertainty does not allow to restore order, to build a strategy. It turns out, the region stood in limbo.
– What are some reasons for optimism, you still see?
– I must say that slowly, step by step, but at the Donbass still becomes calmer, and the standard of living is increasing slightly. I, as one of those who stood at the beginning of this process, I would like more. So I may be too sharply to assess the situation, but done, of course, very much.
– There are regions of Ukraine, who are willing to go the way of DNR and LNR?
– During the reign of Poroshenko Ukrainian security forces conducted a point system work to identify dissatisfied Kiev authorities. Now, many are in prison, others have left the Ukraine. The resistance movement is largely suppressed. General dissatisfaction with those who came to power after a coup in 2014, is – the standard of living is falling, prices rising, the socio-economic situation deteriorates. But there are no leaders who can lead the people.
– Do you communicate with someone from the former leadership of Ukraine? Maybe you discuss something with the fugitive President Viktor Yanukovych?
– With deep respect I concern to the former head of government Mykola Azarov. With him we are discussing many issues. With Yanukovych, I do not communicate. You know, after a coup in Kiev killed an enormous number of people, Donbass became a war zone.
Through led me Novorossia Parliament was the first Russian humanitarian aid, another structure for the job was not simple. I had five or six visits to affected families in Luhansk, Donetsk in the day.
I was important to show people that they are not abandoned. I visited a family where the children died, the elderly, where the demolished house. I saw this mountain, which has brought, including the policy of Yanukovych. It’s very hard.
– Do you think that Yanukovych personally to blame for what is happening in Ukraine now?
– He had all the levers of power. He could fight like Gaddafi as the Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad, he could die like Allende (Salvador Allende, president of Chile, died in 1973 in a military coup – Ed.)., And remain a symbol of resistance in centuries, but he I did not. The politician has the right to think about himself. You take not only some levers of power to manage, but you take responsibility.
– And what was not then the people close to the “body”, which could put him under some influence, so he made a different decision? Or he was not listened to?
– Ukraine – oligarchic country, and classical oligarchic country. There is much to talk about democratic elections, but as a result of the Ukrainian people elect the candidate, who chose the oligarchs. Well, at least from the list of those to whom they bet. Therefore, its obligations to them were more important than to ordinary people.
– And the oligarchs, it turns out it was not profitable to preserve the country?
– At some point, the oligarchs took over the most precious thing they have – money and property. It was not an option.
Ukraine will need 180 years to reach the level of 2013 – expert | Russian spring
President of the Ukrainian Analytical Center Alexander Okhrimenko believes that Ukraine has lagged behind not only for the whole life and the lives of several generations. In order to arrive at the economic indicators of 2013, you will need 180 years.
The Economist notes that for the first quarter of this year GDP (gross domestic product) in Ukraine grew by 0.1%. It may seem that this is an economic recovery begins. But there is a caveat: it is evident by the fact that return to the standard of living is difficult enough when compared to the current GDP of Ukraine with indicators of 2013.
Take, for comparison, the first quarter of 2016 and the data for the same period of 2013. The result is alarming: Ukraine’s GDP fell by 17.9%.
According to the analyst, in order to come to Ukraine economic performance in 2013 at the current pace of development, must be no less: for almost two centuries.
“In order to Ukraine’s GDP reached the level of 2013, which can not be called a success, and successful Ukraine, or more precisely the Ukrainian business, you will need nearly 180 years”, – says Alexander Okhrimenko.
Background and reasons for calls Okhrimenko events of the year 2013-14 and Maidan.
Now, the Ukrainians will have to work a few decades to pay back to the level of 2013. And of course, the salary “in Europe” promised on the Maidan, were only in my dreams. But we received European prices and tariffs.
Experts say that those who came to power during the Maidan, were only able to promise and forget about these promises. The economy of the country simply destroyed. But the break, as you know, not to build.
Restore, all destroyed, it will be difficult for the last three years. And to do this is a generation of people in Ukraine.
“And this despite the fact that no one from the government does not recall any maidan, no promises that sounded in the Maidan on the European salary. Always easy to fall apart. That is to create and build a long and boring “- sums up the expert.
Saker, take that as an opportunity – why not?
Well what I mean is, that if and when they break apart they will be naturally weaker than they re today.
Then if and when Putin gets things prepared in anticipation, Donbass will depart in a definite form as a new state.
well Nuland has said any elections outside of Minsk should not be recognised so is that a positive or negative in that the current paralysis stays especially as it is ukraine who prevaricates, will postpone and seem determined not to hold elections=stalemate, whether deliberately or not….probably intentional I believe…”Thursday, May 19, 2016 – 10:36
The elections in areas of Donbass, uncontrolled by Kiev, can be held no earlier than in two years.
It was stated by the deputy head of the Central Election Commission Andrey Magera, reports The Politnavigator.
‘Today, it is impossible. And it will not be possible even in a year. I think the process will be extended for more than two years. This is an optimistic scenario. If the early elections to the Rada are held in a year and a half, they will not, of course, take place on the occupied territories,’ said Magera.
The deputy head of the CEC noted that, for two years on the territory of the DPR and LPR, the Ukrainian State Register of Voters has not worked, with its restoration a ‘very serious and hard work’. Magera said that, before the elections in Donbass all the necessary conditions have to be created there, electoral commission formed and the Ukrainian media allowed to cover this process.
