It is no secret that the junta in Kiev hates the Russian media. This is hardly surprising considering that with a few extraordinarily rare exceptions, the western press corps walks in lockstep with Psaki’s narrative about this war. So Russian journalists have been beating up, kidnapped, searched, detained, tortured and, of course, murdered. And just in case anybody would still hold on to the belief that this policy is the result of the action of a “few bad apples” (the use the Pentagon’s favorite expression), I want to mention two interesting developments here:
1) The Ukie “Rada” is in the process of passing a law removing the press accreditations of pretty much the entire Russian press corps in the Ukraine.
2) The Ukie secret police – the SBU – has now issued a directive ordering the attest of 80 people including several of the best known journalist currently reporting from the warzone.
Ukie arrest order for Russian reporters |
And this all makes perfect sense. Since the Russians are the only reporters courageous enough to report from places like Slaviansk and Kramatorsk and since they are the only ones honest enough to say the truth about the atrocities committed daily in Novorossia, getting rid of them (by means of murder or kidnapping) will basically remove Novorossia from the world’s “media radar”.
I am generally not a big fan of the modern press corps (where I have too many friends to have any illusions about how it really works), but I have to express my deep admiration for the absolutely fantastic work the Russian journalists do in Novorossia and, by the way, in Syria. And while I am sure that the Ukie threats and the death of their colleagues will not stop the Russian journalists of continuing to report from Novorossia, I only feel total disgust and contempt with western media whose indifference towards its Russian colleagues is absolute.
Can you imagine the kind of atrocities the Ukie death-squads would engage in if they succeeded in getting rid of the only real journalists reporting from the warzone?
In the meantime, while Poroshenko has announced that Banderastan will sign the association agreement with the EU, Russia is apparently moving some of its military forces closer to the Ukrainian border. Whether this is again a hallucination by NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen or not, I am quite sure that a Russian military intervention is imminent and that short of a miracle Putin will have to take action to protect the population of Novorossia.
Will a Russian liberation of Novorossia trigger a war with NATO?
Probably not.
But I absolutely hate this word “probably” which is not good enough when contemplating such a horrible possibility. “Probably not” implies “possibly yes” and for me, a child of the Cold War, even the prospect of a Russia-NATO war is quite literally unthinkable. But that kind of mental block is very dangerous because wars do not always happen by plan, but also by what I would call “predictable accident”.
Still, I want to believe that a Russia-NATO war is most unlikely.
For one thing, NATO does not have what it takes to fight such a war. Oh yes, I am quite aware of the fact that combined NATO forces are much bigger than Russia’s, but that is a meaningless figure. Right now the Ukies enjoy an advantage over Novorossians ranging from 5:1 to 100:1 and that does them no good at all. Since any Russian-NATO war would have to be fought either on the Dniepr or east of it, there is the first problem of getting NATO forces there. Then you would have to supply them. And only then would you have to engage them against the Russian military. That goes not only for ground forces, by the way, but also for Air Forces who, with the exception of strategic bombers, do not have the range to take off from, say, Poland or Germany, fly to, say, Kharkov, strike at their targets and come back. Don’t go by what is called “ferry range” (a one way non-combat flight) because in wartime the flight profile for a strike aircraft is completely different, especially loaded with ordinance. So while Russia does not have what it takes to attack Poland or Germany (why would Russian want such a capability anyway?!), NATO does not have what it takes to fight Russia in the eastern Ukraine either. Not boots on the ground, not aircraft in the skies. Which leaves long range cruise missile strikes. Here NATO can reach all of the eastern Ukraine and most of Russia in fact. From USN and NATO ships in the Baltic and Black seas for example. US B-52 could also deliver cruise missiles (but not the B-1 or B-2 bombers who don’t have that capability). But that would expose all of western Europe and even all of the coastal USA to Russian retaliatory strikes. And no offense intended to anybody here, but history has made the Russian people tougher than the people of any NATO member states by several orders of magnitude, which means that in practical terms the people of, say, Rostov or Smolensk will cope with a US cruise missile strike much better than, say, the folks of Amsterdam or Santa Monica. Last, but not least, once cruise missile strikes are exchanged, the risk of nuclear escalation become very, very real.
So, again, I see no thinkable scenario for a Russia-NATO war. And the recent move of 2 B-2 from CONUS to the UK do not impress me. First, because B-2 have the theoretical range to fly a combat mission from the continental USA, but because B-2 cannot be used against Russia anyway: since they cannot fire long range cruise missiles, they would have to enter Russian airspace to deliver their ordinance and since we now know that Russian radars can see and track “stealth” aircraft, that would make them sitting ducks for the Russian air-defense forces (missiles and interceptors).
And yet when I see the rhetoric, the saber-rattling, the apparently total commitment of the USA to provoke Russia I wonder if having accelerated their propaganda machine to such a velocity the western plutocrats will have the wisdom or even the capability to step on the brakes before they plunge the world into an abyss. I don’t know.
But they are certainly playing with fire. Potentially nuclear fire.

mfg,
China have not even recognized Crimea as part of Russia.
Not doing so, it is weaking herself.
Doing it, she will face the US-EU to make a choice: sanctions also on China, whose retaliation would be as a “fracking” for their economies?
If Russia is left alone, war could really possible and China too will be affected.
China actual behaviour verges on stupidity.
The following article is certainly applicable to the situation in the Ukraine:
On this side of history, during a relatively peaceful era in a stable nation, it’s nearly impossible to comprehend the atrocities of war. But the fact of the matter is that people often give orders to commit these types of crimes, and other human beings frequently obey. What does that say about human nature?
Sophie Richardot, a social psychologist at Université de Picardie, France, sought to answer this question. She first became interested in the subject in relation to Milgram’s famed obedience experiment. Milgram showed the disturbing extent to which normal people are willing to inflict pain on people in the name of obeying authority. Richardot says that Milgram’s orders were not coercive, but they were explicit.

An article by Olga Chetverikova on the rehabilitation of fascism:
Events in Ukraine provide clear evidence that the first phase in the rehabilitation of Nazism set in motion by the West is now complete… The Ukrainian phenomenon is unique in the fact that here the new Nazism surfaced as a monumental chimera unifying the Nazis, Zionists, liberals, occultists, ecumenists, papists, and Protestants. They march under many different masks and ideological banners, but in essence they are the same. Regardless of their formal affiliation to a particular faith, party, or sect, they all have the same vision for a future world order and for the methods needed to build it.
A Fourth Reich is already under Construction in Ukraine

This is about sectoral sanctions, not physical war. Some of the Ukr forces have openly admitted that they are not fighting to win in the east, so much as they are fighting to provoke Russia in order to see Russia destroyed by western sanctions. More discussion of this eventuality would be interesting to read. Right now three issues are key and that is the fate of the Battle of Yampol, the fate of the forces north of Lugansk that didn’t rush toward the city like the Aidar Bn did (very surprised your blog has no coverage of that – was it militarily significant?) and the fate of the column that passed through Mariupol and headed north to seal the border.

They occupy, and it becomes Kuwait II. Colin Powell leaves his nursing home, and leads the “Allies” to victory.

IMHO,
I find it unlikely that NATO attack ships would simply be allowed to sit in the Baltic or Black Sea and hurl cruise missiles at Russia or eastern Ukraine. Russia’s Black Sea fleet, not to mention the anti-ship missiles, would send those ships to the bottom of the sea not long after those attacks commenced.
This is why I agree with you Saker. I’m pretty sure the Pentagon has more than likely war-gamed these scenarios which is why even Obama stated he has taken military intervention in Ukraine off the table. The trump card, I think, is if Poland and Romania should decide to enter Ukraine to “assist” the Kiev junta. I still would not count on NATO intervention as article five is specific about collective security and Ukraine is not a member nor would Russia be attacking Poland proper directly. Poland entering Ukraine would be a purely elective move on its part and I don’t think NATO will be obligated to come to its rescue should Poland get in trouble there.

The bigger war is over Europe. The USSA will be happy about a Russian move, and call for all kinds of sanctions. But war? Really doubtful.
A tough call would be over what kind of invasion to go with – and what kind of damage to inflict to the Ukrainian forces. If you don’t deal with them, they will grow and go after Odessa or even the Crimea.
This rumor was posted yesterday here along with a video interview: http://arbaletfire.livejournal.com/

“UPD 4: Very interesting developments rolls downed IL-76; the fact that there are more than stated officialdom – known, but such a perspective quite exotic (I like it, though more like stuffing): “American officer led a delegation consisting of office of Brigadier General. Also in the plane were officials from NATO headquarters in Brussels and protection numbering 15-17 people “
As has been reported no bodies were found in the wreckage.
Yes they are playing with fire, they are evil psychopaths!
Look at how they acted in Syria! They funded ISIS in order to topple Assad. Any concern about the hundreds of thousands murdered? The suffering of children?
How many realists in the West stood up to say “if you fund these people you are going to get blow back”.
They didn’t care! These people are evil! (Lest we forget)
Remember that all the chaos in Ukraine actually accomplished for the West was to move an election up by a few months. Children had to die for that?
Evil!
As what I said before, you are playing into their hands by inaction. If you want NAF do all the work, than give them artillery. otherwise, set up not fly zone at least.
NATO is stupid, but not that stupid. West Europe is not that far away. RF fighter planes now training there almost every day. Make some crude gestures at their capitals, see their market crash, and their masters have them overthrown. For the west, banks and market is about all they have now.
You can send your people to countryside to avoid bombing, lets see where people go in West Europe.
They are playing an empty castle strategy where they have no soldiers (Or political will in this case) in the city, but their leaders calmly dare you go in to attack them in order to achieve the opposite results.
You are over thinking this. It does not matter how strong you are, you need to have a goal, and find best way to achieve it, not twiddle your fingers, doing nothing.
By the way, it is good to see RF put a little economic squeeze here and there every day this week, it is long overdue.
Clearly the junta wants a clear hand to proceed with their extermination campaign without the bother of press coverage. I don’t have a clear sense of what the state of play is at this point. The resistance is clearly accumulating hardware or various sorts and the junta seems to be continuing to round up conscripts and armor to broaden and reinforce their attacks. No Idea how the border closure operation is going. Does Poroshenko really have authority over the military operations?
Seems to me that things are coming to a head, irrespective of what Russia does or doesn’t do, with the miner’s threat the resistance forces could reach critical mass and especially if they can round up sufficient hardware to take out the artillery positions – or at least cut off the supply routes.
@Anonymous:I just want to remember you Andrea Rocchelli italian journalist killed in sloviansk. So there are not only russian journalist out there. I prefer classify journalists in two categories regardless of their country of origin: Journalists and Others. You can find both types in every country
Good point. Although I did write “with a few extraordinarily rare exceptions, the western press corps walks in lockstep with Psaki’s narrative about this war”. But still, Rocchelli would deserve to be mentioned by name in the post. I would say that as a rule southern/Mediterranean Europe is far less russophobic than northern Europe. That, in itself, is an amazing fact worth investigating.

Regarding China and Crimea, here you have it: http://en.itar-tass.com/economy/736771
Action speak stronger then words.
Following Bakunin’s thoughts about obedience to authority, I am frequently in mind of a quote from John Law, one of the primary theorists of Actor-Network Theory:
No one, no thing, no class, no gender, can ‘have power’ unless a set of relations is constituted and held in place: a set of relations that distinguishes between this and that (distribution), and then goes on to regulate the relations between this and that.
Those relations that constitute power are, obviously, vital to authority and its hierarchies. The glue that maintains those relations can melt away instantly like snow in a sauna in the right circumstances. That’s why these connections must be maintained (ie: ‘constantly renewed’) in a variety of ways, from belief systems that preclude questioning basic assumptions, to fearing reprisals for disobeying orders, to Pavlovian conditioning, to internalizing self-victimhood. And yet entire armies could melt away as from a single local dereliction of duty (eg: from, say, grunts switching sides, to, hopefully, Ukraine’s own (successful) July Plot). Socially constructed realities, likewise, can similarly melt away: currencies that had worth one day can be made worthless with a single penstroke that substitutes a new socially constructred reality (eg: confederate money; US petrodollars).
This is one reason why the primary theatre of war in our globalized times is informational and psychological. It’s why russian journalists must be silenced. False consciousness requires a monopoly on socially constructured belief systems. Those relations must be regulated, right?
Blogs like this are vitally important because they’re the samizdat of our times. Hopefully they contribute to reconstituting some of those sets of relations that are currently precipitating our possible extinction…

You have very smart, very intelligently answered that question, I think the same as you but I would never be able to formulate in such butifull way.
I feel Russia is being bated to invade, just like Iran is being bated. I hope it does not, no matter how hard or difficult it is, i hope it does not.
I hope Russia goes the militia’s way. Arm, train, flood the locals with means to fight. But do it smart.

China is fully committed to economic gain in Crimea and East Ukraine (whoever ultimately delivers the deal).
China is about development and growth. It never gets involved inside politics. It stresses diplomacy for resolution. It fights the Hegemonic system.
As for Poland moving to help? It will get a split in Ukraine instantly, no help from NATO and badly shocked by its action. Poles are facing tough internal times. Germany will not like Poland going off on its own.
Russia going into Ukraine?
Let’s war game that. Oh, it doesn’t work out well for Russia, for EU, for the USA.
The ships in the Black Sea will be sunk if NATO goes after Russia. The US would have to find a proportionate answer to satisfy its public. Syria port would be obliterated with Russian facilities and ships lost.
What cities in Russia would get hit?
What cities in EU/NATO would get hit in return?
The whole thing goes Nuke in three hours.
So, NATO cannot act unless it wants to go to the stone ages.
Russia can not afford to take Ukraine without being bled to death in eternal warfare. It is like fighting fifty Chechnyas at once.
Russia will punish Kiev, the fascists, the criminals in a way to get them all out of power.
Donbass will continue to bleed.
The war strategy was set when Donbass foolishly challenged both Kiev and Putin to act. One had to act, paid to act by the US. Putin would have been suckered into acting.
Russia will supply what is needed to engage Kiev and strangle Kiev on its own like a python continues to tighten on a struggling cow. Kiev is disappearing, Ukraine is dissolving.
We don’t see it because it is an economy. Data, budgets, expenses, facilities, capacities, and logistics. Kiev is a homeless with a tin cup, begging.
Feeding 42 million Ukies.
Giving them wages, utilities, medical.
Operating local governments.
Collecting taxes.
Ukraine will collapse as the python squeezes.
Donbass will bleed while this goes on.
Villages and towns and maybe a city or two will be lost and heavily damaged.
But those miners who are thinking wages now, soon will be thinking survival. That’s a division of militia, soon two divisions of militia. When the wolf pack is at the door, everyone grabs a weapon.
Then, one night, Karachun artillery will be struck! An armor counteroffensive will surround the National Guard. Yes, tanks are being made ready for an armor counter-offensive. The war will be surrendered to the survivors of Donbass. Kiev will sue for peace on Putin’s terms.
It may take 10,000 more lost.
But it will not be Russian boys going to fight inside Ukraine.
Putin is far to smart to be suckered into a war.
Meanwhile, an international criminal manhunt for the billionaires and politicos who financed the murders.
We are going to see many, many mysterious endings for fat murderers. Even if they hide in Hollywood, Huntington Beach, Tel Aviv or Langley, Virginia. Double tap!!
Kiev is sitting at the poker table but they not only don’t have any chips, they are not being dealt any cards to play. They hold nothing, like dogs at the foot of the King.
No war, no nukes, no invasion, no NATO.
More death, more destruction, more blood, more horrors, and victory at the end.
Ukraine will fall, Kiev will change.
Check out Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Vietnam.
Are those American Hegemonic victories?
They are catastrophic disasters of policy, military action, geo-political gain. All trillion dollar debacles.
America can blow up and create chaos. It cannot win the ground or change a culture.
America wins by cultural displacement after development occurs.
Ukraine is ten to twenty years too soon for America.
Premature ejaculation is a huge American problem in the bedroom and in Pentagon, State Department and Situation Room.
They shoot before they are “in”.
First time poster here from South Africa.
Over the past few months I’ve come to the conviction that US foreign policy can be summarized as: “Make sure that no rival powers emerge.” They spent so much energy and money keeping everyone else down that they can’t keep themselves up.
Military spending in the US is huge and the military industrial complex forms a large part of the US employment and skills base. It is therefore in their interest to destabilize the world, and promote the use of force, because that increases the value of their investment.
As the oil price goes up, and stays up, due to increasing demand and diminishing oil resources, Russia is almost guaranteed to keep on growing in riches and influence.
In other words, Russia is on an upwards trend and the US is on a downward trend. This violates the stated US objective of being the supreme world power. Russia is therefore a US enemy. The US tries to make the confrontation a military confrontation instead of an economic or diplomatic confrontation. The goal is to convince Europe that they need US military protection and in exchange they have to participate in sanctions against Russia and buy weapons from the US.
If Russia intervenes overtly in the Ukraine, this could succeed.
From everything I’ve read, the Ukrainian participation in the EU is doomed to failure. It seems to me that only agriculture would remain as a viable industry. Ukrainians will also be able to work in Europe(?) which should help their economy a little but not much. The pro-EU movement will die down soon after joining the EU.
It seems to me that while there is definitely a large part of the population in the eastern Ukraine that supports federalization and/or joining the Russian Federation, there is also a sizable part that supports EU membership. This pro-EU feeling would die down quickly if EU membership became a reality, but currently it is frustrating and complicating the efforts to separate from rump Ukraine(?).
The purpose of intervention is thus solely to prevent the suffering due to the killing and chaos spread by the Ukranian army and National Gaurd.
What other options are available to stop the suffering?
Loathe as I am to suggest it, might it not be a good idea to postpone the separatist movement until such a time as the general Ukrainian population becomes fed up with the EU? In other words, a strategic surrender followed by a few years wait and when pro-Russia sentiment is higher, either the entire Ukraine or some regions could form close ties with Russia again.
This depends, of course, on the likelihood of persecution of Russian speakers in Ukraine. Could they could be protected somehow?
If there is no war, Russia will almost definitely continue to prosper. It has all the natural resources it needs. Trade serves to increase Russian influence diplomatically and to speed up the improvement in Russian quality of life. Russia has no need to go to war. As long as Russia can defend itself, the reliance on Russian oil and gas almost completely ensures friendly relations with dependent nations. I’m raising this again because I want to emphasize that Russia has nothing to gain and everything to lose by intervening in Ukraine. All other methods to prevent the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine must be considered.
In a related question, what would the consequence be of Ukraine joining NATO? What is the strategic implications of this?
Porosh just made a major announcement that oblasti can choose their own governors and admin bodies and language and keep 25% of fed taxes and the constitution to be amended for decentralization. This is most of what Russia wants. The only question is: is he saying this because his forces are out on a limb such as trapped on Karachun and near Yampul and north of Lugansk? Will the pro Russians want the ATO to pull back where rebels would have to let them pass? I can see them at least wanting the Rada to codify Poroshenko’s new decentralization vision. Or maybe they are cornered themselves and want the ato to pull back asap

No matter what the circumstances, Americans have been turned into such self-satisfied and entitled babies that if Russia retaliated with cruise missile strikes on the Eastern seaboard, Americans would DEMAND nuclear retaliation just to prove that we are still the “exceptional” nation and cannot be attacked, and if we are, we must nuke the whole world to prove how butch we are. I hate to say it, but that is the “mind”set that rules in America (if we can be said to have a collective mind at all anymore – we lost it decades ago.) But, regardless, if foreign missiles ever touch US soil, Americans will demand a nuclear retaliation. Whether the military would give it to them or not is a different question that I can’t speak to.

I see no direct intervention by Russia in the cards – I am sticking to the ‘mad dog’ theory – Russia will let the mad dog die of its affliction. Having a viable Ukrainian economy requires significant trade with Russia, certainly over the next 5 years or so (not to mention a raft of economic reforms) IMO. There is no way it can survive cut off from Russia. Maybe some power drunk oligarchs imagine they can survive this way (with help from their US and EU friends), but the country as a whole cannot.
Will Kiev be willing to actually negotiate with those who have taken up arms? Seems doubtful without a decisive unequivocal defeat. On the other hand the number of casualties inflicted by the resistance has got to have a cumulative negative effect on those whose sons, fathers, and relatives are dying or coming home maimed. If Russia does not intervene this will most likely lead to ever diminishing support for the ‘anti-terrorist’ operation. I am thinking that the Russian troops near the border have to do with border security issues like the unilateral demarcation and potential incursions.
Obama seems cautious and methodical in his approach. I don’t believe he would order military action that threatened Russia. Wild cards – after 9-11 we should wonder who is actually in charge when someone is intent on throwing poo at the fan. Likewise there is always room for miscalculation that leads to unplanned escalation in situations like Ukraine. The amount of unrest and conflict at the moment has got to be stressful and distracting to those trying to direct/steer events in their favor.
The bloody mess will persist for some time most likely.

To Larchmonter445: From your commentary to God’s “will be done”. Let it happen. Make those muther-fukers in Foggy-Bottom and Langley and wherever Academi operates to “reap the whirlwind, baby”. Your observations are spot-on. (BTW — I may have blogged with you several years ago — back when I was more actively commenting on sites — until “they” started to tap my phone, take pictures of my house and stalk my neighborhood — which my husband didn’t appreciate — so I curtailed my activities — and here I am — wiser and battle-tested.) Agree with everything you’ve presented. Putin is a very competent leader. Russia suffered from the same evil deceivers that are running America. Like Russia 40 years ago — America is imploding from within. It’s the same Tribe different century.
It appears certain elements of the US military are resisting more sacrifice of blood-treasure for the Anglo-Zionist overlord hegemony. Too many average Americans — the kind-of-folks who ONCE respected military service — think that the US military have done things which are shameful. Willingness to forgive Bergdahl is because decent people prefer a deserter to a murderer. It’s time for another 911 event to punish the Muppets who are waking-up, rubbing their sleepy little eyes and resisting neo-con/neo-Bolshevik/Zionist demands for MOAR WAR. It’s coming. Take care.
Shrubber says:

– Once we get into EU, the Bulgarian will be able to travel all over Europe.
The Bulgarian understood that they will be able to travel all over Europe for free.
When the government told people
– You will be able to seek jobs all over Europe.
People understood that they will get work.”
How’s that working out then?
Do not trust the EU – It’s where European countries dump failed/unacceptable politicians. The Ukies will envy the Greeks their riches in a few years.
A question: Given that nationalists love their countries, how come they always end up destroying them?

Yes, Crimea was given to Putin on a Silver Platter and now the Ukraine is given to Putin on a Silver Platter too, by Federalizing it. Oops, I mean Decentralization.

I had an interesting exchange with Saker months ago about American Exceptionalism. I said that I still wanted to believe in it. He almost laughed me off the page. Rather than be offended I began to think about my concept of “exceptional”. My mental list of those American qualities of exceptionalism –openness, hard work, loyalty, decency, kindness, sacrifice — were human qualities which Christ exampled and taught. To be honest — I don’t recall when this notion of “exceptionalism” became part of the vernacular. In my family bragging was discouraged.”
I am not sure if you have seen my response to the above in other post, Nora is seen it. Here it is again:
“Yes, I always believed that American are exceptional, in the sense you have refereed above.
One day I want to write a SITREP about it and how the Good Christians of America helped my family. To which, my mom and dad were always indebted all their lives. God rest their souls in peace.
I hope that that Saker will allow me to post this SITREP on his blog. Not now, but not very distant in future.”
Best regards,
Mohamed.

My rants elsewhere were usually, the government of the US is a Tyranny, run as a Cult of Liberalism, defined by me as a Cultural Revolution v.2.0, with a Fraud-in-Chief as a stalking horse for every anti-American act and policy.
American citizens have been baked in ideology for four decades, while their assets, opportunities and Constitution have been stolen and destroyed.
America might as well be under the reins of a foreign government. Look at the Southern Border. Unimaginable.
In the citizens’ name contractors and black ops kill and maim and the government tells us its in our national interest.
The Cult has raised sodomists to sainthood. Drugs are legalized to placate the masses and sedate the rest.
The only reason they have not tattooed and branded everyone is the morons are doing it to themselves.
It is a big, dangerous nation that can kill but no longer inspires. Every noble act is undermined by callous and deviant behavior.
What I admire about Russians and Chinese is that they have survived the worse Century of hellish government and are rebuilding moral, legal, inspiring nations, each with their own unique characteristics.
The Hegemon is jealous and wants to destroy both.

The fact that ANNA is doing more English translations even if these are crude than RIAN from the Southeast with real news from the combat zone is as stinging an indictment if there needed to be one of RIAN and why the Kremlin was correct to shake that agency up last year and place it under new management. ANNA remember started as just the project of one professor at Moscow State University Marat Musin and a crew of middle aged veteran volunteer correspondents like the one who was badly wounded in Syria. Even if some oligarch has kicked a little bit of money their way they don’t have a fraction of the resources of RIAN or RT.
Unfortunately even the new RIAN managers still don’t seem to have a handle on things, and as Peter Lavelle recalled publically at the time of the shift last year, RIAN just wasn’t that productive when he was there in the early 2000s and industrious foreigners were making some of the older Russian journalists from the Soviet era look bad. That’s a problem the younger generation of Russian journalists including those putting their lives on the line under deliberate fire in the Donbass don’t have.
……………………………
It is a pity we don,t have the English subtitles.
What the hell is doing RIA novosti?
No surprise the wire services only mention the course of combat when the insurgents say they’re being overwhelmed. They certainly weren’t very interested in reporting the Kiev regime’s losses earlier.
Seems to me Obama’s people are hemming and hawing about air strikes on Iraq perhaps in hopes Moscow makes the first move before CENTCOM and much of the Pentagon and press get focused on Iraq air strikes/trying to keep ISIS out of Baghdad. Which I’m certain will ultimately not happen due to the Saudis saving Obama the humiliation of a Saigon-style evacuation from the Green Zone, but only after extracting a heavy price from Washington.

I spent the past hours translating the German subtitles into English so that more people can benefit from it. I should say that I merely focused on the speech itself. Note that the video points to its original source. So in theory, one could create a version of the speech with English subtitles only using my narrative as a starting point…
Anyway, here we go:
Sergey Glazyev, economic advisor to Russian president Vladimir Putin (excerpt from a talk on 10th of June 2014)
*Part 1*
I’d like to add a few words about Kiev’s politics.
It really is the case that Kiev’s politics are pursuing the genocide of the entire population of Donbass. They are not even ashamed of bombing social infrastructure, including the flattening of Europe’s best airport in Donetsk. Not to speak of the horrendous number of causalities these bombings have caused. The airport of Donetsk was a gigantic infrastructure object the region was proud of. They destroyed hospitals, kindergartens, schools and so on. That is, they prepare the people of Donbass for their role as slaves. And they make no secret of it.
It suffices to take a look at the ideology of Kievan Nazis to understand, i.e. Mister Lyashko. But Poroshenko too with his statements is not too far away from them. That is, as a matter of fact they consider the Donbass purely as a source of revenue, as a location where profit is to be extracted from and massive exploitation at the expense of its population.
It is obvious to us that the USA, who control the Kievan Nazis, namely President Poroshenko personally and the entire government completely. The USA are pushing them for war against the Donbass until the victorious end. In relation to this I’d oppose the previous speaker who explained there would be a limit, there would be barriers to the use of military. No, there are no barriers for them! They’ve already been using the grad multirocket launcher system!
Timoshenko threatened to drop nukes. And these aren’t mere emotions of hers, this statement resonated positively with Ukrainian Nazis. Had they gotten hold of a nuke, they would drop it, for instance a neutron bomb over Slaviansk. I have no doubt that they would make use of the bomb. That is, they make use of all means at their disposal, all of them! And they will use these means until the victorious end, until resistance in the Donbass has been totally crushed.
And why is Kiev using all means? Because this war is waged by the USA, namely against us, Russia. The United States have Kiev wage the war, the USA provide Kiev with weapons and money, the USA coordinate the military actions of Kiev. To that regard, I’d like to agree with the previous speaker who said that time is on the side of the Kievan Nazis. This may sound strange, but that’s the way it is.
For on the one hand, many think Kiev’s Nazi regime would soon collapse under the burden of the gigantic social problems the Ukraine has. But the regime of Saakashvili in Georgia did not collapse. And yet Georgia managed to kick out Saakashvili, albeit not through social revolt, but by democratic means that are totally out of reach for today’s Ukraine.
Sergey Glazyev, economic advisor to Russian president Vladimir Putin (excerpt from a talk on 10th of June 2014)
*Part 2*
So why is time working against us? And particularly against the Donbass people? Because the USA and their Kievan puppets went for the militarisation of the Ukraine. Because the USA want to install a dictatorial Nazi regime. Because the USA and Kiev pursue a total mobilisation of the Ukrainian population. And despite the mobilisation not causing much enthusiasm of the Ukrainian population at this time, do have a look at the dynamics!
In December 2013 there were 2,000 Nazis in Kiev, in February 20,000 armed Nazis were counted already. In May, there are already 50,000, including national guard and other volunteers. By mid-summer, there will be 100,000, by September 200,000 – I mean the Kievan mobilisation plans for those fit to service. And by the end of the year, Kiev is going to have half a million armed men.
Military equipment from Ukrainian reserve stocks is being put into operation, repaired, restored. The Ukraine has a large stock of military equipment, currently everything is kept in stock as a reserve. But for example the industrial plants in Kharkov in the East of the Ukraine are working at full capacity, the capacities of the industry there is geared towards putting this old military technology from the reserves back into operation.
Heavy tanks and amoured vehicles from the reserves are being repaired, this does not take much time and effort and right now, they’ve already picked up 200 armoured vehicles from the reserves and sent them to the combat areas. And each day the number of armoured vehicles of the Ukrainian army is increasing due to this revival of the reserve stock. The same is true for military planes. The industry in Odessa is working at full force to make as much old planes from the reserves as possible fit for combat again.
What does that all mean for us? It means that soon we will have to deal with a mighty military machinery that is aligned against us. And this military monstrosity will be awash with Nazis, who are ideologically indoctrinated against Russia and act as punishing units. And these most active Nazis force regular soldiers to go into combat.
And the ultimate goal of all those actions and preparations is war with Russia. That means, we cannot escape this war, since once Donbass is falling, there will be no peace, but Crimea will be attacked next. And this is no joke, my colleagues! Kiev has already officially announced this war. They relentlessly and consequently put pressure on the Ukraine for the war against Russia and the reason will be Crimea.
The new president Poroshenko officially declared he wanted war with Russia, and though he did not say so directly, he did say his aim is Crimea – and that is only possible by going to war with Russia. Yesterday, even Nuland said unambiguously that she expected her Ukrainian agents to recapture Crimea. And this half a million strong Nazi army will invade Crimea. There can be be no doubt about it.
Sergey Glazyev, economic advisor to Russian president Vladimir Putin (excerpt from a talk on 10th of June 2014)
*Part 3*
In this connection, I want to remind of Winston Churchill’s known words, who stated: “He who chooses shame between war and shame will have both war and shame.” And that doesn’t mean that we should send our tanks to Kiev. No, we have to deal with a modern war and to put a stop to the genocide in the Donbass. We have the right to it and international law permits it too.
It would do to lock down the skies over Donbass, to introduce a no-fly zone over Donbass. And then, we could utilise the same mechanism the Americans used in Libya – first no-fly zone and then neutralising heavy equipment from the air – bombing tanks, armoured vehicles and planes and this way, the Americans made the Libyan regime incapable of fighting. It is still possible to make use of this mechanism – half a year from now, there won’t be such a possibility any longer.
I can now explain in detail, why the Americans need this war between Ukraine and Russia, in case someone is interested here.
The people’s republics of Donetsk and Lugansk have already formed a common federalisation parliament which is their organ of power. That the Kievan junta is unwilling to negotiate with that organ of power can be explained with Kiev lacking sovereignty. For factually, the Kievan authorities are under the control of the USA. And therefore we have to, and that is very important, consider the Ukrainian territory as occupied by the USA! Except for the Donbass area, where resistance is offered.
Once we’ve correctly determined the coordinate system, we will realise what to do and how to react.
The Ukraine is being occupied by the USA and its mercenaries, who use the Ukrainian puppet regime to indoctrinate the entire Ukrainian population, to mobilise and goad on against Russia. At first, the USA want to organise a civil war in the Ukraine in order to follow up with a world war. There they want to involve all of Europe and Eurasia.
Therefore it is vital to recognise the real situation and use the correct terminology. We call upon other regions not to join the Donbass, in the sense of striving for independence. No we call upon them to rid themselves from the US-occupation.
I insist on correctly determining the coordinate system for us. Namely, Kievan authorities are not independent, they are basically US-american agents. They are US-American puppets. Poroshenko did not win the presidential election in the Ukraine, experts estimate he gathered a maximum of 40% of all votes. That is a subject of its own, how these circus elections were held there.
Thirdly, the territory of the Ukraine is occupied. It is under control of the USA. And there are a lot of facts bearing witness of that. Americans have legalised the stay of their advisers and military instructors. The Ukrainian secret service “SBU” is completely under CIA control. As a summary, the Ukraine is occupied by the USA and we have to talk about the liberation from the illegitimate occupation of the Ukraine.
Sergey Glazyev, economic advisor to Russian president Vladimir Putin (excerpt from a talk on 10th of June 2014)
*Part 4* (final part)
And the USA use Ukrainian mass media for the emerging Nazi-psychosis in the country, together with the Ukrainian Nazis they want to unleash World War III, no, World War IV, if we count the old Cold War as World War III. Hence I would suggest to dedicate our next meeting to the reasons why the USA want this war, why they bred this Ukrainian Nazism.
The USA bred the Ukrainian Nazis in order to spark off this civil war, which will then serve as a pretext for engaging the Ukraine in a direct military confrontation with Russia. At first, they want to create a regional conflict this way in order to eventually ignite World War IV.
This aggression of the USA is not just directed towards Russia, it is primarily directed towards Europe, too – The Americans have benefitted from all their wars with Europe, they benefitted from World War I, from World War II and from the Cold War with the USSR, too. All wars in Europe were traditionally of advantage for the USA. War in Europe is the path to an economic miracle, to the blossoming of the US-economy. It has always been this way.
This war is also directed towards China, because we notice how Japan and South Korea are rearming. The USA officially announced to build up new missile defence shields in Japan and South Korea, and that is not just targetting Russia but also China. That’s why we should understand that the key to the solution of the Ukrainian catastrophe lies in Washington. In Washington lies “the death of Nazism”, so to say.
Therefore, I suggest the next meeting with this subject, we need a broad antiwar coalition.

A word about the recent characterization of AP here: I looked up their board of directors on their web site, also their management committee. Aside from one director from the NY Times, none of the other names or pictures were obviously Jewish. The directors all represented major news organizations. Maybe one manager at most had a possibly Jewish name: Dave with a -ski at the end. I realize the poster was merely venting his spleen, blaming a Zionist conspiracy for something he dislikes. (I dislike it too, but blame our spineless politicians, plus the deep state.) I’d be careful making accusations that are demonstrably false: why should anyone pay attention to the accuser afterward ?
Regarding the AP itself: I happened to be watching its web site as the 08/08/08 Georgian attack began. AP reported everything that happened quickly, accurately, and correctly, including Mikhail-the-tie-eater’s threats to ethnically cleanse South Ossetia, threats which have disappeared down the memory hole. While AP no doubt echos the imperial line, it seemed then at least to have journalistic integrity.
But, regardless, if foreign missiles ever touch US soil, Americans will demand a nuclear retaliation.

Americans should be careful about what they wish for.
They could get it!
@ Bakunin
Smart man Glazyev, if you have known that, when there was time to react at much less costs why the F*** you did not do it?
Turf wars in Kremlin?
The Russians are not the only ones in Slavyansk. BBC Panorama has had a crew in Donetsk since February. They interviewed most of the principal rebels before any of them had any recognizable support. They covered the disappearance of the mayor and the murder of the town hall official. They still get access to the top officials and forward positions before they were giving them attention early on.
85% of Russian pharmaceuticals, by value, are imported. Mostly the modern, effective ones.
60% by value of Russian food is imported. A lot from Ukraine. In fact, Ukrainian competition in the food business has been an important escalating factor in this whole affair. Russia has been blockading Ukraine since last March.
Bakunin thanks very much! That provides some interesting and disturbing details about the junta efforts to create their “army of punishers”. One thing is certain – Russia surely has very good intelligence to work from unlike those of us forced to try and read tea leaves. If our dear Saker is correct and a Russian move is immanent all I can say is goodbye to the world as we knew it.
RT Ukraine timeline is reporting that Putin talked with Merkel and Hollande about the gas situation and the fighting in the east and also talked with Poroshenko “stressing the need to stop the attacks” to come to a workable solution. Poroshenko’s ‘peace plan’ calls for the rebels to lay down arms and leave Ukraine if they so choose – a non starter.
Russia is reportedly preparing a legal case against Kolomoisky and friends for perpetrating war crimes that would make them eligible for apprehension and removal to Russia for trial I believe.
It is being reported that massed attacks with armor and air support were carried against Jampol, Seversk, Slovyansk, and Semenovka which succeeded in driving the main militia forces out of some areas but then the attackers withdrew leaving pockets of resistance remaining.
If there is to be a Russian move I would think it would need to be soon or there will be nothing left but bombed out buildings and corpses to bury.
HI Saker… Firstly please dont stress about the demands on your time with this work. Any rational person would thank you sincerely for the load you are carrying on our behalf… you are doing the awakened world a HUGE service..
As much as no rational person wants more war on this plane If forced Russia can really dish it out as you know. I note you never
(to my knowledge ) mention Russia’s cosmospheres which they have had available to use since the late 70’s. They are mentioned several times in the audio Letters of the late Dr. Peter Beter to be found here….
http://www.peterdavidbeter.com/
and would even today be a formidable weapon.
These letters are not another “Red herring” but a true record of events that occurred at the times
specified. As we always we make our own minds up as to what is truth….
Keep up the excellent reporting but please take a breather for your own and family’s sanity..
@Mikhail II “I realize the poster was merely venting his spleen, blaming a Zionist conspiracy for something he dislikes”.
The French have a saying: ‘Qui s’excuse s’accuse”. Denying to strenuously the Zionist hand in Ukraine is to precisely draw attention on it. Look at “Benya” Kolomoyski! He actually does everything to attract attention.
I’m currently in south east. We are surrounded by armor right now. One of my neighbors was told by a National Guard that are here that all hell will break loose on us on the 21st.
Towns are being obliterated near us. There is nowhere to go. We will ride it out together with the grace of God. Keep writing friend.
Right now the Ukies enjoy an advantage over Novorossians ranging from 5:1 to 100:1
I would love to hear best estimates for soldiers, mercs and militia. 100:1 is a bit much.
@Bakunin Thank you!

I agree that military power is not simple calculation of money spent and count equipment. In case of USA is mostly about siphoning money out of taxpayer’s money into private pocket. Country needs strong military for protection but in some point limit is reached and then just continue feeding MIC. Russia and NATO have power that no one side will be winner.
Rich people do not want to war or put on vabanque whole great lifes they have. They want to enjoy life on shoulders of their serfs- domestic and conquered population. Conquest create bubble of good life in conqueror space but misery in conquered. Rulers have to spoil domestic population on expenses conquered to prevent problems. This is case of western world and their showcase of freedom and democracy. Why prosperity did not show up in Latin America since Spanish-American war and Pax Americana applied on them? You know about School for the americas and dictators. One of the most succesful man in history is Fidel Castro. Next was Stalin. See one-evil.org
Most people this days compare Russia’s economy and living standard with west. Same mistake they do with Cuba. But rest of countries under Pax Brittanica or Pax Americana did not make it better at all.
So Pax=peace is not working as we expect. The same apply for fteedom and democracy.
Democracy, as religion or constitution, are not universal values.
But no constitution, even the most brilliantly written one, can save a society from corruption, ignorance, disorder, and poverty. What is crucial in determining the level of prosperity, education, orderliness and culture in a society is not its constitution, but rather the character, quality and values of its people, and especially its leaders.
The same apply on UN and other international institutions and “international community”. International community, as you can hear from western puppets, exclude 6/7 of the world as it showed up in UN resolution condemning Russia supported by 100 countries represent 1/7 of the world population.
I watch Mr Putin since he stepped on neck of oligarchs and NGOs. His policies are actualy comparable to book: Bad Samaritans. S Korean succes is funded on military dictator. Right? Look where they are now.
Eastern Europeans were promised paradise quarter century ago. They get colonization on full scale. They supposed to run after west but what happened is that after 25 years split from hated Russia they are, some, on the same level on Purchasing Power Parity index. I am deeply disapointed. Hitleresque dictator in Russia, parodism, achieved for his people more in 12 years than democrats in Poland, Balts etc. Scary, ain’t it?
Come back to war. Important thing is morale of population which is lot better in Russia than anywhere else.
Secondly. Demoralized population in west just wait for spark to stand up.
And then we have economic intetests. As Russia let USA play game in Ukraine they are sinking deeper into mud. And guess who is target of Putin? Western Europe. His goal is set wedge between NATO countries. And he is doing what westerners want-get ripp of Anglozionist’s dominance. There is too much in the game for long strategic future to send military to falling Ukraine.
BTW.I never thought I would see so disguisting rullets as developed in Ukraine. I like Hungarian aproach: Live in unchengable past and not foresable future gives you hand cufs on brain.

> I also think he correctly point out “Therefore it is vital to recognize the real situation and use the correct terminology.
That’s exactly what Fyodorov did. War between USA and Russia.
Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Ghana, Egypt (both last mentioned moved steadily backwards for decades after independence. When Argentina was under strong British influence, it was one of the world’s 10 richest countries per head. However, only two countries in the world actually crossed the boundary from underdeveloped to developed in the first half of the 20th Century. Russia and Japan. Both were already well on their way by 1870. Education was the key in both. Ghana and Egypt had commodity booms.
