A few interesting short news first.
Does Russia have air superiority over the Ukraine? See a good answer here: https://sonar21.com/combined-arms-a-look-at-russian-air-ops-in-the-donbas/
Next, speaking of aviation, here is a machine translated Q&A with aerospace officials from Rostekh and the United Aircraft Corporation about Russian plans to deal with the issue of civilian aviation in Russia:
Question: When will we see fully import-substituted SSJ and MS-21 aircraft?
Answer: The successful completion of resource and flight tests will allow us to achieve SSJ-NEW certification by the end of 2023 and start mass production. The import-substituted version of the MS-21 aircraft will be ready by the end of 2024.
Question: SSJ-100: The fuselage was fully Russian-made and ready at the end of July. How are things going with electronics and engines?
Answer: Work on import substitution of the “filling” is being actively carried out. Recently, for example, Roselectronics presented its electronic components for SSJ-NEW and MS-21 communication equipment. The holding also creates antennas and radio stations for the Superjet.
PD-8 for SSJ must pass flight and certification tests, after which its serial production will begin in 2023.
The PD-14 engine for the MS-21 is in the stage of deploying large-scale production, which will start in 2023.
Question: Tu-204: this aircraft does not need to be designed and assembled from scratch, it is already ready, how quickly can its production be resumed and is everything necessary for this available?
Answer: There is no point in resuming mass production of the domestic Tu-204 passenger aircraft now. The emphasis is on the Tu-214. The latter has proven itself well when transporting senior officials, as well as for solving various special tasks. Therefore, it was decided to increase the production of these aircraft.
Are there plans to develop/design some completely new type of Russian-made aircraft?
At the moment, our priority task is to complete the SSJ and MS-21 import substitution projects. We are concentrating all our efforts on solving this problem.
Question: What volume of production of the Tu-214/SSJ/MS-21 can we really reach by 2023/2024?
Answer: In 2024, it is planned to deliver the first 6 fully import-substituted MS-21s to airlines. Gradually, production will increase to 72 aircraft annually by 2029.
Now carriers operate about 150 “Superjets”. This year, thanks to the available stocks of components, SSJ-100 deliveries continue. From the end of 2023, it is planned to begin deliveries of a fully import-substituted version of SSJ-NEW. From 2024, the project will reach the estimated capacity of 20 liners per year.
Production of the Tu-214 will increase significantly compared to current volumes. It is planned to produce more than 70 such machines by 2030.
In general, according to the plans, about 500 aircraft should be delivered by 2030. The main focus will be on the new MS-21 and SSJ-NEW models, they will become the most popular in the Russian sky.
Now, lets get some good music going for the week-end.
First, a trio composed of Jean-Luc Ponty, Stanley Clarke and Al Di Meola:
Next, one of my absolute favorite recording of Pat Metheny and Charlie Haden, “First song”:
Next Barney Wilen and Philip Catherine play “Recado” together:
Finally, my favorite Argentinian guitarist, Luis Salinas, plays “Zamba Triste”:
I wish you all a great week-end!
Andrei
Thank you very much Andrei and thanks again for your excellent musical selection.
Great songs! Some people have different musical tastes so, here instead is Anti-Flag with ‘The Economy Is Suffering … Let It Die’. Dig.

The Saker,
Thank you for providing this blog, where even people like me can write here, with our thoughts and our feelings, and the educations we received (sometimes under our own choice – even when young). I read your words about war for a few seconds, and skipped straight to the Music
I wish I could do that

Have a nice weekend and thanks for the continuous updates.
I love to set back close my eyes and enjoy one of the greatest voices in 20-21th century music :

What a voice,fantastic.
Dear, dear Andreï. Really thank you.
Metheny was already one of my bests but I didn’t know Luis Salinas. Top. :) It’s really good to discover musicians no anglo-saxons.
You come on a blog to read about war and politic and you discover wonderfull musicians. Really brillant.
It’s not the first time. Martianov made me discover an incredible Portugese, Andre Antunes(must see and listen).
Perhaps tomorrow, Larry Johnson will make me discover an incredible musician from Congo or Indonesia.
permita-me fazer um agradecimento pela postagem do Barney Wilen de uma música da década de 50 ,Recado, de dois autores brasileiros fundamentais na criação da cultura musical brasileira, Luiz António e Djalma Ferreira

You are very welcome, I LOVE Brazilian music!!
I will post videos of Raphael Rebello (possibly with Maria Monte) in the near future.
Saker:

Super super nice, thank you so much!!
Mas, continuamos, todos, maragatos.
That is very nice! Are they Roma people? They sound kind of like the Gypsy Kings, to me.

Barney Wilen and Philip Catherine are blowing me to the core.
I want a very big Bass Guitar.
I know someone who can play it, and probably will this coming weekend in our local park in London.
The Musicians All Play for free.
They charge us £5-£10 to get in – for toilets and stuff…Sometimes we get over 20,000 people…but don’t advertise it much, or we will get swamped.
The Cure – just kids from South London had one of their first big gigs here in our local park (a long time ago)
(apologies for the capitals – but the drumming is phenomenal and the content – mainly about death, is pretty much on topic if you’ve been jabbed)

thanks Andrei – I always love reading your stuff – whatever it is. Have a great weekend And I’m excited to listen to the Argentinian guy.
I knew JLP. I attended a concert in France, maybe more than 40 years ago.
JLP with Zappa, with Mahavishnu is great.
I knew Al Dimeola (Elegant Gypsi with Paco De Lucia).
But Luis Salinas, incredible discovery for me. Thanks for that Saker (and all what you are doing).
Take care
A message for Europeans
A true story. I’m an Austrian-born resident of the United States, still have enough of an accent to mark me as foreign born and have seen many changes here in the last twenty years.
This week I met a woman from southeast Asia probably ten or fifteen years my junior, well educated and fluent in the English language. In the course of our conversation she asked me where I was from and I told her I was born in Europe. Her response was that she always wanted to visit Russia but given all the troubles in Ukraine was unsure she would ever have the opportunity.
Do you comprehend what she said? This woman, when told I was from Europe, thought of Russia. Not Germany, not France, not the UK. Russia. Ergo, to her Europe IS Russia.
I did not have the opportunity to explore this with her, but later my daughter explained to me that Russia is half of Europe, younger people understand that and it is natural to associate the largest component with the whole. This is alien to my way of thinking, but apparently not to others. I am somewhat relieved that my American friends still make the distinction, but only just.
When I challenged my daughter, she asked me in turn “in what language does Europe dream?” I told her there were multiple languages, and perhaps English as it has been so widespread. Her response unsettled me. “In what language does the majority of Europe dream?”
My daughter does not make a distinction between a majority and a plurality, but I do. And I know the answer to her question, even if I do not wish to say it out loud. I am wondering how many in the west and center of Europe know, or have ever thought of such things, or if it will be their children who will be the ones to say so out loud.
Your story fits in with the (it must have been Saker) telling that Kremlin/Putin redirected the middle class in Russia from focusing on Europe to East.
The progress, hope, wealth and future lie in East. As Russia is 10-20 years ahead of EU in education, military, technology, farming, and becoming a wealthy world class country (at least in the State coffers), it is natural Eastern people think of Russia as the no 1 of Europe.
Not bad. At least we Europeans have Russia to brag about when we chat with other nationalities of the world……..:-D.
“Where the Russian heart is strong
Like the beating of a drum
Where the magic lingers on
And the fight for truth is won
Deep in the European soul”
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8YEyFIczrMw
“I told her there were multiple languages, and perhaps English as it has been so widespread.”
If you think that Spaniards, Italians, French or Russians dream in English and not in their beautiful languages, you probably have spent too much time living in your “Anglocentric world” (which it is NOT the world of the majority of the Europeans)
Thank you, Andrei!! You do spoil us. I will bring a small contribution to this page with one of the most interesting human voice ever. Some say is also Russian but still disputed.

Dear Saker, I call your attention to the right hand thumb of Salinas. It’s common to Uruguayan and Argentinian guitarrists.
Yes, there are also some Jazz guitarists who play with their thumbs.
This baffles me, but they do great.
Personally, I always play with a pick/mediator/plectrum as I much prefer the sound of it to any finger technique.
But then, when I listen to Flamenco guitarists, I have to admit that their “sound attack” is pretty awesome.
So why not thumbs :-)
Cheers
Thank you Saker for providing this Friday Music venue. Beautiful music is like balsam for your soul.
Really liked that Pat Metheny and Charlie Haden piece. Never heard it before.

I’m referring to an extended thumb attitude, where you pluck without flexing the thumb joints.
It’s well described in Carlevaro works.
yes, I understood what you meant.
The Jazz guitarists I was referring to also use the straight thumb
I can think of two rock guitarists (Jeff Beck or Mark Knopfler if I remember correctly) who also use their thumbs.
Hi Andrei the late great Toy Caldwell of Marshall Tucker fame also played with his thumb.

Always makes me feel better when the fairer sex gets me down. Plays such a “fat” style.
My favorite “Argentinian” guitar player is Sabicas hands down. His fingering style is simply out of this world and can’t be replicated.

Is there a Brasilien that doesn’t know “Mas, que Nada”? Here is a lovely jam session version. Also the world cup is coming up quickly and every football fan hopes to see a team from Brasil that plays with rhythm. Good luck to the yellow and blue!

Be good to yourself and others this weekend! Reach out to people you haven’t talked to in awhile. Life is more enjoyable with the company of others. My family is going to a festival this weekend with friends and I’ve been looking forward to it all work week. There isn’t much summer left and I’m going to enjoy it as much as I can. I hope you can to!
Great music again, Andrei!
I started listening to Pat Metheny in the late ’70’s. I tried to download a youtube of Watercolors, but the live version isn’t as good as the studio, which is paywalled. I still have three or four of his old vinyls.
I listened to Jean-Luc Ponty in the ’80’s.
On saxes, I love Stan Getz’s early ’60’s bossa nova stuff. It’s very smooth and soothing.
For those that understand French here is an excellent and very complete interview by Xavier Moreau with civil aviation expert Cyrille de Lattre, which more or less predicts the interview above: —

I used to play this John Klemmer song driving to the beach all the time. Then I replayed it in my head catching waves, especially going for tube rides. You hear crashing water outside the wave, but inside it’s a God-made natural horn. The falling water droplets make a resonant thrumming sound.
The song is called Whisper to the Wind. Hope you like it.

Neat summary from multipolar world order on Twitter:
The latest UN vote on Russia’s SMO in Ukraine shows growing support for Russia and increasing isolation of the West. The sentiment has changed drastically since early March
On 24 August a UN resolution to condemn Russia’s aggression against Ukraine received support from only 54 member states, less than 1/3 of the total UN member states (193)
And the support level is dramatically lower compared to 141 member states who voted for a similar resolution on 2 March.
The actual list of the 54 countries voting against Russia is also quite telling:
– Not surprisingly, supporting the anti-Russian resolution were: US, Canada, UK, EU members, Australia, NZ, Japan & S Korea. Also worth noting here is Turkey, whose vote was driven by its own geopolitical interests in the region
– The G20 vote was split 50/50. IOW half of the world’s largest economies, incl. China & India, supported Russia
– OTOH the list of the 54 voters for the anti-Russian resolution is full of small countries whose economies are insignificant & who depend on the US too much eg North Macedonia, Albania, San Marino & Federated States of Micronesia
Of 10 ASEAN members, Singapore was the only supporter [My note: The ruling Lee family are British-educated]
All 8 members of SAARC sided with Russia
The only LatAm nations siding with the US over Russia were Colombia & Guatemala
Of the 55-strong African Union & the 22 Arab League members not a single one voted to condemn Russia’s SMO
This means Russia is winning the fight for people’s hearts & minds around the world
Why does Russia have so many friends these days?
1. the world’s political leaders aren’t blind. Unlike ordinary people in some nations, who remain misled by propaganda in the Western corporate media, the leaders are fully aware of the West’s role in prosecuting this war
2. They’re also clear on the barbaric methods of warfare used by the Zelensky regime
3. Even more importantly, a growing number of nations support Russia in its efforts to counter Unipolarity which only serves the interests of a handful of Western elites at the expense of the rest of the world’s people, and that’s probably why today the peoples of many nations wish Russia success in its fight against US/NATO hegemony
Have a great weekend peeps!
Blessings,
Where can i found how each country voted?
Thanks a lot.
Just in:
Things are starting to get interesting:
An urgent meeting of EU energy ministers is being held. A “revolution” is already expected in Czechia. The Czech minister said about the risk of revolution in the EU.
The Czech Republic, who holds the EU presidency, is urgently convening an extraordinary meeting of EU energy ministers, Prime Minister Petr Fiala who said “this meeting will consider specific emergency measures to address the energy situation.”
The rapid rise in energy prices in the EU threatens the existence of the community and threatens, in particular, the political system formed in the Czech Republic, the authorities of the republic said a day earlier.
If the situation worsens for national consumers, the Ministry of Justice predicts the possibility of a repeat in the republic of revolutionary events similar to those that in November 1989 led to the removal of the Communist Party from power in Czechoslovakia.
“If the crisis in the energy sector is not resolved, then the country’s political system is under threat. If a solution is not found at the European level, the European Union as such will be at risk,” Justice Minister Pavel Blazhek said

My favorite Pat Metheny song is “Are You Going With Me” thanks for the good music!
Wether it’s this or King Crimson, Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings, Bach’s Chaconne from partita no. 2 in d minor (Raphaella Smits does a near flawless stunning version on classical guitar), Tangerine Dream’s Exit or Celtic Frost’s Monotheist, (nothing heavier has ever been written). We need real music for us to grow and help us to learn how to love more.
Peace
I could use anyone’s help in finding an article posted about six weeks ago. I believe it was by M Tajik but I cannot find it for the life of me. It was a review of several hundreds years of world history according to the author’s perspective. It was very long but a very good read. I should have bookmarked it but didn’t. Thanks for any help!
