This colums was originally written for the Unz Review: http://www.unz.com/tsaker/week-twelve-of-the-russian-intervention-in-syria-zag/
In last week’s review of the Russian military intervention in Syria I wrote that Kerry had lost every single negotiation he ever had with the Russians and that he had a record of agreeing to A only to come back to the US and then declare non-A. This time again, the Americans did not change their modus operandi, except that it was Obama himself who declared, yet again, that Assad must go, resulting in some commentators speaking of a “White House Schizophrenia”. Others, however, noted that this could be simply a case of face saving denials. Personally, I think that both of these explanations are correct.
There is no doubt that Obama is an exceptionally weak, and even clueless, President. The man has proven to have no vision, no understanding of international relations, his culture is minimal while his arrogance appears to be infinite – he is all about form over substance. This is the ideal mix to win a Presidential election in the USA, but once in the White House this is also a recipe for disaster. When such a non-entity is placed at the top of the Executive branch of government, the different part of government do not get a clear message of what the policy is and, as a result, they each begin doing their own thing without worrying too much about what the POTUS has to say. The recent article by Sy Hersh “Military to Military” is a good illustration of that phenomenon. Being weak and lacking vision (or even understanding) Obama’s main concern is conceal his limitations and he therefore falls back on the oldest of political tricks: he tells his audience whatever it wants to hear. Exactly the sames goes for Kerry too. Both of these man will say one thing to the Russian rulers or during an interview with a Russian journalist, and the exact opposite to an American reporter. That kind of “schizophrenia” is perfectly normal, especially in the USA.
To use the expression coined by Chris Hedges, the USA is an “Empire of Illusion”. The US society has an apparently infinite tolerance for the fake as long as the fake looks vaguely similar to the real thing. This is true on all levels, ranging from the food Americans eat, to the way they entertain themselves, to the politicians they elect and to the putative invincibility of the armed forces their taxes pay for. It is all one gigantic lie, but who cares as long as it is a fun, emotionally reassuring lie. In the Syrian context, this ability to ignore reality results in the support of terrorism in the name democracy, the conduct of an “anti-Daesh” campaign which results in Daesh dramatically increase it’s territory, the accusation that Assad used chemical weapons and now the “Assad can stay but he must go” policy. This ability to completely decouple rhetoric and reality can sometimes have a positive side-effect. For example, even if this week saw a Zag! From the US Administration in terms of rhetoric, this does not necessarily mean that the USA will continue to attempt to overthrow Assad. The opposite is also true, however. The fact that the US has said that Assad can stay in no way implies that the US will stop trying to overthrow him.
The bottom line is this: yes, there was definitely a Zag! this week, but only time will tell how much of a zag we are dealing with.
In this context I highly recommend the recent article by Alexander Mercouris entitled “Russian diplomacy achieved a trio of Security Council Resolutions over the last month which give Russia a decisive advantage” in which he explains how Russia has achieved victory after victory at the UN Security Council. What is important here is that with each of these Russian-sponsored Resolution the number of available options for the USA are gradually being reduced. Another factor also reducing the US options are all the tactical successes of the Syrian military whose progress is slow, but steady. The intensive pace of Russian airstrikes is having an effect on Daesh and the Syrians are slowly advancing on all fronts. There has been no Daesh collapse yet, but if the Syrians continue to advance as they have done so far their offensive will eventually reach a critical point when the quantity of their small (tactical) victories will end up triggering a qualitative (operational) reaction and Daesh will begin to collapse. Of course, the Daesh fighters will have the option of finding safety in Turkey, Jordan, Iraq and elsewhere, but the psychological impact of a Daesh defeat in Syria will be huge.
So far there are no signs of a possible Turkish invasion of northern Syria, no signs that anybody is still thinking about imposing a no-fly zone, and besides the murder of Samir Kuntar in an Israeli airstrike (which I discussed here), it appears that the S-400s are achieving the desired deterrent effect.
In other words, while US leaders have their heads stuck deep up into their own delusions, the events on the ground are slowly but steadily reinforcing the Russian position and vindicating Russia’s stance.
In the meantime, the Syrian Christians who follow the Gregorian Calendar are celebrating Christmas in the streets of Latakia in a clear sign that a multi-confessional Syria still exists and has a future.

Being the video gaming peace pretzel of low intelligence, it was not like the people did not know what they were going to get.. There ere enough people who were telling tales of how he tried to hoodwink others but it was to blatantly obvious to them that it was con. Now to get that kind of a reaction in an academic circle where dreams are what matters the guy must have been the biggest bullshitter around who had no clue what he was peddling. That the people can overlook all that just goes to show that the 50% who vote are of even lower intelligence..
The Iraqi shias seemed to have learnt, although it wont matter as much now… Most iraqi minorities were killed or driven off.. Even the last jewish ministry only had the caretaker as the last jew in baghdad.. When he dies Baghdad and probably most of iraq would have been cleaned off jews.. Thanks the US for exporting their democracy..
This Alloush guy wanted to go Iraqi to cleanse the area of shias.. How his 10,000 terrorists planned to kill almost 20 mil iraqi shias is not answered… His cousn or brother or someone is director of HRW.. Yea the same one that writes up reports on human rights.. with their fiends in the UN human rights watch.. chopping off heads and hanging people with their entrails are considered justified in the big book..
heh more shias in church than there are Christians in Baghdad now.. They should have done more to protect minorities before.. Yet they did nothing until the fundamentalists they came for them as well.. Too late now.. The rest who are left will also move as fast as they can.
ps.. kidney prices have doubled now that Alloush organ foundation, you need we get, lost its CEO tragically when russia bombed the operating room he was working in..

The Peculiar Case of Zharan Alloush
http://www.almasdarnews.com/article/the-peculiar-case-of-zahran-alloush/
Until mmirww confirms otherwise, I’m assuming that he was being sarcastic in referring to Kenneth Roth (HRW Director) as Zahran Alloush’s brother or cousin. The reference being to the HRW director’s obvious disappointment at Alloush’s death and HRW’s obscene & sympathetic portrayal of this butchering Islamist (Alloush) as a viable democratic alternative to Bashar Al-Assad. Alloush is as much a cousin to Ken Roth as Yatsenyuk is a cousin to Ken Roth. BTW if it turned out that Alloush had actual relatives working in HRW, it wouldn’t surprise me at all.
Alloush has a very opaque past and Syrian govt Intelligence suspects he may have been both an Israeli asset as well as as officially Riyadh’s Jihadi in Syria. The amount of Post-Mortem glory, praise and sympathy Alloush received across the Western MSM (despite the fact that he was considered worse than ISIL by the Syrians) seems to indicate that he was taking care of Western interests in Syria.

Interesting. Thanks.
You’re Welcome.
Anytime. Love some of your comments BTW.
The infighting reported by Hersh I see resulting from the failure of the Vision 2020 policy to attain Full Spectrum Domination thanks to the strategic alliance of Russia and China, with this failure being admitted by military pragmatists but not by hardcore neocons, who still think they can win if they infiltrate Daesh into Central Asia.
Many are critical of Russia’s UN offensive, but I think Putin’s attempt to resurrect the primacy of International Law and make it the cornerstone of the new Multipolar World very sound as it represents the best way to attack Turkey and other NATO supporters of Daesh, GCC, and Israel. As America’s founders knew, International Opinion matters when combating Imperial Unilateralism. Will the US and/or UK veto UNSC sanctions on Turkey, GCC states and Israel for their roles in supporting International Terrorism? I don’t think they can for both domestic and international political reasons as the evidence being provided appears to be overwhelming.
The Neocon goal of remaking the Middle East will occur, but not the way they’d planned, as all of their goals will eventually be reversed and a markedly different region will emerge, with the Turks and Saudis being the biggest losers, followed by GCC and Israel. This result will take time, perhaps as much as a generation (20 years), but the current death and chaos will eventually cease barring suicidal moves by the big losers.
Thank you Saker for these thoughts. And thank you for reminding me of Chris Hedges’ book.
You make an important observation about the average American willing to live in a state of illusion/fantasy, which suits the powers-that-be as they can frame their foreign (and domestic) policy according to an imagined reality made to suit the carefully crafted American myth.
There are a few other books written in different decades that may be of interest to those who liked or are intrigued by Chris Hedges’ book.

This by no means applies only to the US, as I am slowly finding out after moving back to Europe…..
It is well known that the US allowed foreign terrorists to leave Fallujah before they invaded and destroyed the city of 300,000… So this is not surprising.. Maybe why they prevented the Iraqi forward forces from driving to Ramadi by bombing them. Just surprising to see it being in print other than as footnotes in some reports are rumors……
Love Thy Enemy? US Plot to Evacuate Top Jihadis From Ramadi Uncovered
© AFP 2015/ PATRICK BAZ
A US plot to evacuate Daesh leaders from the strategic city of Ramadi in central Iraq has reportedly been disclosed by a volunteer forces commander.
Iraqi Government Forces Advance on Daesh in Center of Ramadi City
An Iraqi volunteer forces commander has revealed US plans to evacuate Daesh (ISIL/ISIS) leaders from the central Iraqi city of Ramadi, according to the Iranian news agency FARS.
The disclosure comes as the Iraqi army and popular troops are attempting to secure victory over the jihadist group in Ramadi.
FARS quoted Imam Khamenei Battalion Commander Haidar al-Hosseini al-Ardavi as saying that “the delay in operations to liberate the cities of Ramadi and Fallujah in Anbar province has been the result of US interference.”
“It seems that the US intends to evacuate the ISIL terrorist group’s infamous ringleaders secretly (with helicopters) from Ramadi to unknown places,” he was quoted by FARS as saying.
His remarks came amid efforts by Iraqi security forces to continue gaining ground in Ramadi’s central areas, where hundreds of Daesh terrorists are trapped under siege.
In another development, the army’s special forces attacked Daesh hideouts in the al-Zubat neighborhood of the city, and started liberating government buildings in the al-Hoz district of Ramadi.
Earlier this week, Iraqi Army Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Othman al-Ghanimi said his troops needed only days to completely drive Daesh out of Ramadi, which has been under Daesh control since May 2015.

The US has clearly not used A-10 planes for close ground support because of MANPADS in the arsenal of ISIS (thanks to Hillary Clinton to Turkey to ISIS from Libyan supply through Benghazi).
But now, they will use helos to rescue the head chopper leadership.
So, if there is any doubt that ISIS is a proxy Obama army, the veil is off the turd heap.
We all know that the Hegemon has aligned the worse scum of the globe into Ukraine’s nazi battalions and AQ and ISIS legions. Nothing is too base for the Hegemon.
@Red Ryder
There is precedent for this kind of dirty double dealing. US & British Intelligence did the same sort of thing in the defeat of Taliban post 9-11.
The event is known as the Kunduz airlift:
US Military transports were used to save and evacuate Pakistani ISI and military personnel who had holed up in Kunduz after being surrounded by the Northern Alliance. These Pakistani & Saudi agents were some of the worst criminals and terrorist creating and sponsoring scum you can imagine, but instead of handing these bast-rds over to the North Alliance for the poetic justice they were due, the CIA forced the US military to rescue these murderers and get them off scot-free.
That situation was just like the situation in Iraq today, the US acted as a new ally of the North Alliance while protecting the Northern Alliance’s enemies. (the Northern Alliance were the close allies of Russia, India and Iran, prior to 911 they had successfully kept the Taliban from fully taking over Afghanistan), post 911 they were the main ground force that defeated the Taliban, with US air-support and weapons).
Even if the Sputnik story turns out to exaggerated or wrong, the fact is that CIA has provably committed this sort of treachery in the past.
If Russian intelligence is as good as we think it is, it would seem more likely that in the event of such contact, the whereabouts of these people would be known and Russia or at least the Iraqi air force such as it is, could go in first and prevent their escape.
What do you mean by “his culture is minimal”?
Related to terminology from the American school system where total failure is marked with “minimally exceptional”. However, I would rather coin it “Empire of Delusions”.
If you live in the United States, culture of any kind is an endangered species. Our last Great Leader came from a very wealthy poitical/business dynasty, yet apparently was not curious about the world to even obtain a passport until he was elected, well into middle age. I would call that a “lack of culture.” If there’s evidence that our current leader has any more curiosity about the outside world, I’d love to see it.
Hi Saker, I was wondering why you didn’t mention the elephant in the room here :
There has been no Daesh collapse yet, but if the Syrians continue to advance as they have done so far their offensive will eventually reach a critical point when the quantity of their small (tactical) victories will end up triggering a qualitative (operational) reaction and Daesh will begin to collapse. Of course, the Daesh fighters will have the option of finding safety in Turkey, Jordan, Iraq and elsewhere, but the psychological impact of a Daesh defeat in Syria will be huge.
Hi Brett, well, do you think Obama reads philosophy and history, or comics ?
It’s been reported that Obama loves to watch sports, particularly ESPN, which is a 24-hour sports channel.
another highly cultural nonentity is instruction manuals…I think Obama might occasionally, when he’s not pretending to read the CIA report, enjoy reading instruction manuals on how to set up his new sound system…to the great admiration of his wife. And then he ‘gets down’ and makes the new system work !! Wow…
Dear Saker,
This Christmas season in our neck of the woods is much too warm. Eighty (80) degrees today, in December. Enjoying getting my feet wet in the Bay-next to the Gulf.
Let’s talk Obomber, specifically, Hollywood Obomber.
Obomber is the second Hollywood president, and portrays a fictional president. He is an actor, who previously portrayed Bin Laden. And, just as with Superman and Clark Kent, Obomber and Laden were never seen together.
The last Constitutional president of the USA was John F. Kennedy. He was shot out of office in an early ‘Arab Spring’ coup d’etat (in Dallas, on November 22, 1963). The subsequent -anointed- Presidents are a political and social mix, some with links to powerful Oligarchs, and influence in their own right, such as LB Johnson and the Bushes, (and Vice President, Rockefeller), to those with fewer power links to American political power, such as Ford, Clinton, Reagan, and Carter, to the latest sad-sack Hollywood Actor, and an individual with no links to the Zionist American Oligarchs, whatever, (except as their cringing servant and hired imposter), Hollywood Obomber.
This ‘President’ with no clothes can only portray, pretend, and prostitute. He has absolutely no political power. Obomber has not 1% of the political foundation of President Andrew Johnson. After Johnson’s impeachment (which was quite successful, even if he was able to continue collecting his paycheck), Johnson had no need to go to the White House, as the American Congress conducted all essential government business.
The Naked Hollywood Actor President, conversely, actually has some work to do. He must Act, and help maintain the public illusion of the existence of a functional American Democratic Republic. This facade is necessary, so that the Oligarchs may continue to control the minds of the quite gullible American Rubes. Foreign political leaders are stiffly polite when they meet in front of the cameras with Obomber. They know they must not laugh in his face, and they know they are not negotiating with the Hollywood actor, but through him.
America is a Zionist controlled Totalitarian terrorist state. America is not free, nor is it democratic, nor is it a Republic. Even former President Jimmy Carter recognizes this point.

There is nothing so beautiful as a nation in Revival, such as Russia. May all other oppressed nations follow suite. And may a New reborn American Republic, with all the holiday tinsel, such as a Sovereign and Constitutional Presidency and Congress, enjoy its own revival!
Peter,
Thank you for your kind words on the previous thread. I would have replied, but the moderators, I think, got fed up with our discussion and cunningly withdrew the “Reply” button. I would have agreed with more of what you said than you might think (although not all).
Here, I have a question. US Presidents have been at the service of plutocrats more or less from the off. The assassination of JFK surely didn’t materially change the system, although it no doubt made the incumbent more circumspect, as President Obama is reported to have revealed in private.
In my opinion, this zig zag approach the USA is practicing is the same Israel uses when “negotiating” with the Palestinians. IE: it’s a tactic of looking like they are negotiating in good faith when in reality they are engaging in everything but that.
This war on Syria is a war of Israeli expansion. As long as zionists continue with the goal of greater Israel, the countries bordering Israel are at risk of similar zionazi ordained aggression.
Empires are lies incarnate. They thrive on confusion and chaos. For example, is the thread following this one about Baghdadi’s Call really The Empire’s recruiting of more cannon fodder to keep the chaos bubbling? If mmiriww is right, the US tortured him as prisoner until he escaped. Now, living or dead, does the Empire still use him a la Osama?
It takes a child, and a girl at that, to tell the Empire it has no clothes. If Russia succeeds in spear-heading a multi-polar new Empire based on law will it only be a sorry attempt to cover him up with a fig leaf?
As a self-ordained meta-war analyst, allow me to share with you a naked truth I’m posting to my website: thelovegovernment.com. It’s an expose of war’s cause in chief.
“Sexual War Perverson # 1
The reason the world is in such a mess is because of sexual perversion on a massive scale. It’s been going on since the rise of patriarchy. Sex had to be perverted for patriarchs to establish their regimes of power.
In the original love culture, sex was free, open, communal, natural, womam-centered and well-governed by matrons. It bonded the communities and held them together with affectionate love.
The center of the culture was the iconic Womam Lover. She stood for joyful sex which resulted in deep states of ecstasy.
Reproductive sex was essential but secondary. The main purpose of sex was not romantic but semantic meaningfulness.
Men were primarily enhancers of womam’s meaning and pleasure. The community was lover-lineal first and matri-lineal second. Men were never intended to be rulers. They prove this over and over in the bloody story of his-story.
Patriarchal men hated nature’s way and sought to tear it down. They coveted the power that womem naturally held. They had to destroy the love world to force their new world order of power into place.
This God-awful story of terror is told over and over in the ancient his-story texts and archeology. War was born from patriarchy’s evil eye and produced the eon of sky-gods.
Earth-based sex was perverted by animal killing and eating, domestication of the free animal nation, marriage, destruction of the Lover as central anchor of thought, money mongering and a thousand other unnatural perversions.
The first war was against womem and their values. “The war of the sexes” is one more lie to obfuscate the original war of males against nature. Patriarchs have turned womam into woMAN. As the sexes become perverted, men and femen reverted to killers in a bewildering array of civilized false masks.
Empires need war like sharks water. If a multi-polar empire is the exception that proves the rule, it will be a miracle of the first water.”
I don’t buy a word of this Love gov’t nonsense. Matriarcal zionism is no different from patriarchal zionism. Love is not an aspect of government. It is a human capacity which ought not be put to use of abstract or corruptible institutions.
I am interested in growing up, not in being subject to the whims of either mummy or daddy.
If you think about the promise of communism, it is merely the rhetoric of a controlled society with carricatured values of feminity. This is no better than the carricatured values of masculinity we live under today.
I believe in the dignity of all people, not in false dialectical notions like rapacious manhood versus enlightened womanhood.
I agree with C I eh?. Dennis you’re a character, but most of what you say, I don’t agree with.
But I’m impressed that you were an RN…
You have a problem with sexuality in general, is my impression. Once you even called Jesus ‘her’…
That’s weird.
Have to politely disagree with everything you say as:
We are Ksytrias we fight for sport & with a code.
The women themselves come & submit in front of us.
Yet, we worship the divine feminine the same nonetheless.
If by patriarchy you mean abrahamic civilization or some other definition please explain.
If you mean men interfering in the household I agree, it’s unnatural.
If you men simply men knowing who their father is & a family structure / marriage system we have to laugh.
You seem like a very nice person but,
He who desires peace, should prepare for war.
Learn from the dead civilization of the greeks, whom they are trying to revive.

Father Efstathios Kollas, has described the followers of the Olympic gods as a handful of miserable resuscitators of a degenerate dead religion who wish to return to the monstrous dark delusions of the past.
You should know, they also worshipped fire & Agni Dev is the first mention in the Vedd.
Dyeus Pita, Zeus Patar, Jupiter.

Our line has been bred to protect it for eons.

Dennis Leary, – when are you going to predicate your views on logic rather than fantasy?
Re:
In the original love culture, sex was free, open, communal, natural, womam-centered and well-governed by matrons. It bonded the communities and held them together with affectionate love.
What you’re describing above is Bonobo society – a degenerate and failed devolving species of Chimpanzee where a true a matriarchy exists and where most casual social interaction is preceded or terminated by sexual intercourse. This includes incest, especially mothers having coitus with their sons, with their daughters, their brothers with sisters, fathers with daughters and fathers or other older males with infant or juvenile males. There are national geographic videos and documentaries on this as well whitepapers outlining this disgusting behavior. This is the society you are idealizing here: it is disgusting, it is immoral and it is very poorly thought out.
Oh by the way, Bonobo matriarchs will murder and tear to shreds female and infant members of other clans (in between their sexual encounters with their own children and siblings). So much for the sick perverted idealization of matriarchy based on casual deranged free for all sex and the sexist nonsense you spew that women/females are not naturally able to be violent (only males).
I do believe that it was this kind of mental illness inspired Western kumbaya insanity that Putin is trying to protect Russian children from by criminalizing attempts to corrupt children with twisted abnormal so-called alternative sexuality as well as his ban on American adoption of Russian orphans (God protect such children from people who think sex is something causal and trifling).
RE: anon 2:48
Projecting human learned values upon a non-human animal is not only completely illogical and very unscientific, in this case, just plain nutso. The author’s fanaticism goes beyond such normal lcd ignorance and borders on a psychopath mentality. Is the commenter trolling, or are they actually that far gone into freakshowland?
@Vot tak,
I wrote the comment about bonobos, and it is precisely the idiots in the West that use animal studies to buttress the claim matriarchies make for better more peaceful, more natural and stable societies. Perhaps Mr. Leary is not aware of the origin of the philosophy he ascribes to, it is precisely from this origin. They’ve created an entire mythology around it. They are even to prove that bonobo society is more stable and peaceful then chimpanzees (who are male dominated, and allegedly more violent), but what they fail to tell the kumbaya kooks is that Bonobos are stable at the price of being stagnant and shrinking while chimpanzees have thrived and expanded to cover most of sub-saharan Africa (chimps are also evolving at a faster rate too).
Your ignorance is stunning, you should be cautious in using the terms unscientific, psychopath or troll given your own behavior. Bonobos and chimps have culture that is learned. Understand? Or did that go over your head? Bonobo babies reared by Chimpanzee behave as chimps do and according to chimp society rules (learned values, learned behaviour), they do not engage in matriarchy oriented incest and compulsive/casual sexual behaviour (because this behaviour is regulated by the dominant male). This is not an instinct based behaviour it is learned. So your premise about unlearned animal behaviour does not apply to bonobos and chimps.
The next time you snap-react and paranoically accuse someone of trolling perhaps you should spend some time doing some research.
It is these same animal studies models that Western propagandists are trying to use to promote that homosexuality is natural (they point to animals and primates that exhibit these behaviors in the wild). Regarding these phenomenon existing in the continuum in nature, they do. But what they obfuscate is the following: Is it normal behavior for a given species? Is it beneficial to their survival? The answer to both is an objective No. However it is politically incorrect for the scientists to say so. So sociologists obfuscate the real data and use false reasoning to buttress their degenerate social engineering propaganda.
” Bonobo babies reared by Chimpanzee behave as chimps do”
Got links to that research, papers, articles? I didn’t find any. Or the rest of it?
(You are so vehement, surely you must have links to some sound research…)

Evolution myths: Natural selection cannot explain homosexuality
There are numerous evolutionary mechanisms that might explain homosexual behaviour, which is common in many species of animals
“Simple reasoning shows that evolution cannot explain homosexuality – how would a homosexuality gene get selected for?” “Why have the genetic traits predisposing to homosexuality not been eliminated long ago?”
Such arguments are surprisingly common – and completely wrong.
Homosexual behaviour has been observed in hundreds of species, from bison to penguins. It is still not clear to what extent homosexuality in humans or other animals is genetic (rather than, say, due to hormonal extremes during embryonic development), but there are many mechanisms that could explain why gene variants linked to homosexuality are maintained in a population.

Dear Blue,
Glad you wasted your time – no one read your tirade (me included): But apparently you read my tirade LOL! (LOL a lot), which amuses me to no end.
Getting back on topic:
Saker’s article on the zag and whitehouse schizophrenia was right on point. I been trying to understand the complete disconnect between LGBT team in the Whitehouse and the religious fanatics in the State Dept who think God is a giant white-haired real-estate agent that confers certain favors to certain people and not to others. Of course the sick perverts in the whitehouse are just as fanatical about their mental illness and religion known as social liberalism as the neocon scum are about their need to re-architect the middleeast (no matter how many people they cause to be murdered).
Please post more and make absolutely sure you provide links and footnotes.
Tirade?
It was a link to an an article in a magazine about science.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Scientist
New Scientist is a UK-based weekly English-language international science magazine, founded in 1956. Since 1996 it has also run a website.
Sold in retail outlets and on subscription, the magazine covers current developments, news, reviews and commentary on science and technology. It also prints speculative articles, ranging from the technical to the philosophical. There is a readers’ letters section which discusses recent articles, and discussions also take place on the website.
So, you took a poll to see who read the post and concluded no one did, and you didn’t but somehow managed to comment on it anyway. Fascinating….
No, he’s quite serious have been hearing the same thing from him for years.
Yeah, I agree, Blue’s been posting the same kind of things for years.
That’s life, but he has a right to his views even if you may believe they clash with empirical evidence. The most important part is to be tolerant of different views () without threatening to storm off. Remember how supposed friends of Saker stormed off with French Saker site because he steadfastly stuck to the truth and said “I am not Charlie!”.
Re Vot Tak he probably has a good heart and I don’t hold anything against him for reacting they way he did. Most people that comment on this blog want things to be better and hate being lied to and manipulated.
I wish you, Vot Tak, Blue and everyone else a very Merry Christmas and New Year
I note you did not post any links to support what you said, despite my request to do so. Looks like you just made the stuff up.
Dear Blue,
Re:
I note you did not post any links to support what you said, despite my request to do so.
Are you OK? Are you really that self-centered that you think people are going to comply with your whims? Do you really think I’m going to do your homework for you?
Do it yourself!
Here’s a hint, go a few pages deep in your google search (not the 1st page), remember Google feeds you results based on your profile, ie your tastes and beliefs (since you are a believer in discredited social liberal nonsense and you’re a believer in fiat currency (heavens! that’s like believing the Earth is flat!) you will receive search results compliant with your extreme left views), as an alternative use Startpage.com (blankslate Google).
If you’re not totally incompetent in web searching and navigation, you will find the evidence for yourself. That’s about as much of a favor I’m going to do for you (from my point of view, it’s more than you deserve.). Otherwise you’re welcome to live in your self-imposed darkness.
Have a happy new year! :-))

“More than 200 rebels deserted the Raqqa Revolutionary Brigade and joined the ranks of the western-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).”
This can also mean they are being “re-branded” into moderate rebels. The relative ease of the some of the YPG advances in Syria, along with that of the Kurds in parts of Iraq, needs to be treated with a healthy skepticism. How come the SAA, Hezbollah, etc suffer stiff resistance, whereas the US “moderates” often seem to face easy victories, and jihadi forces who often flee the battlefield with only a token resistance?
I would like to think I am wrong, but I somehow doubt it, going by what has been happening these last few years.
Beware the Kurds. They are surely not what most believe they are. One thing you can be sure of is the Kurds are completely supported by and allied with the zionists and nato/empire. Which makes them allies with daesh.
“The US society has an apparently infinite tolerance for the fake as long as the fake looks vaguely similar to the real thing.”
Truer words have never been spoken. You’re just getting into your stride as a writer, Saker. Glad to have you on the planet.
Your answer was intelligently given so it will suffice, since the author didn’t provide an alternative. That being said it can be interpreted too as there is a n-gger in the White house.
People who annoy you…….naggers. Ain’t that right Stan’s dad. Don’t be a hater
moderators ? At what point does a comment become racist…nagger is ok ? But nigger isn’t ?
If you mean “nagger” as a person who keeps complaining – any person of any race – then no, nagger isn’t. Nigger has been considered offensive for a long long time Ann and would certainly not be approved. mod PS
The author made a spurious comment that the President lacks culture. Several people, including yourself, have responded in a general context that 1)america has a lack of culture and 2) the President is unintellectual and thus has a lack of culture. It is the author and the forum that has so far unanimously concurred that this is true. For better or worse he is still ‘my’ President, and calling him stupid and low class fits the bill of the n word by my book. Maybe the author should show a little more respect since he is a visitor here until he gets his citizenship.
Obama, habitual liar and war criminal, deserves no respect at all, and he sure as hell isn’t ‘my’ president, nor is the US government ‘my’ government, any more than a gang of mobsters in the neighborhood would be ‘my’ gang.
As for culture, that can be considered in various ways, but to me, culture is what culture does, and as much as Obama might like good food, music, or whatever, he’s still a gangster and as such his ‘culture’ counts for nothing — and much the same for many Americans. I would not use to word ‘culture’ to indicate what the US lacks, but ‘class’, in the meaning of someone who is classy or a class act — sophisticated and with ethical values, acting as a lady or gentleman in the good sense of the word (not as aristocrats) — an objection to Trump, for instance, is that he has no class (and contrast that with Putin who is a very classy man).
As to the ‘N’ word, I said years ago that Obama is a half-White House ni**er, picking up on his mixed race and not being authentically ‘black’ in the sense of black culture or understanding of being a minority and poor in the US (just look at the stats for income, employment, educational opportunities, living areas and conditions, treatment by police, etc.), and the long-used term of ‘house ni**er’ meaning a slave who has sold out the other slaves working in the field. That not even getting in to how ni**er is used by various blacks, sometimes as an insult, sometimes as social and political commentary. Obama has sold out not just blacks, but everyone — and that is neither classy nor cultured. He’s more of a talking head than Max Headroom ever came close to being. The guy is a prostitute.
This is the “N” word you want–neculturny. And Obama surely qualifies as do most of the Outlaw US Empire’s political and business classes.
Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Wow. The Saker should make this post part of his ‘best of collection’. It perfectly exemplifies the hate america crowd that this site has become.
Which post are you referring to?
If you are referring to mine, I’m not pot, but a citizen of the country which kettles people.

I wondered about that troll, as well. It’s response to you (criticism of Obama=racism) confirms my opinion. Good spot.
“with each of these Russian-sponsored Resolution[s,] the number of available options for the USA are gradually being reduced.”
Unfortunately we all have seen that the US is capable of tossing aside the UN altogether & taking whatever action it desires. Perhaps you are inferring that’s one of the available options remaining, or perhaps you mean their options in accordance with international law are shrinking.
“So far there are no signs of a possible Turkish invasion of northern Syria, no signs that anybody is still thinking about imposing a no-fly zone[…]”
But how much ground the Turks are willing to cede to the Kurds remains a flashpoint: “From Tishreen the Kurds can cross to the west bank of the Euphrates and proceed towards Jarablus. This would cut the corridor the Islamic State has to Turkey. The Turkish government had announced that such a move by the Kurds would be a grave transgression of its red lines and against Turkish interests.” http://www.moonofalabama.org/2015/12/the-islamic-state-is-shrinking-and-other-news.html
I endured the final Republican and Democratic presidential debates. Along with Hillary, a majority of the Republican candidates continue to call for a no-fly zone. Hillary especially appears irrevocably committed to a ‘Libyan solution’ for Syria.
The Saker: any comments on Minsk 2 with regard to January 01 2016?
A fatal error for Obama was that non-zionist experts such as Chas Freeman were barred by the Israel lobby from advising him at the beginning of his administration. Instead, political appointees filled important positions.
Yeah, do you remember that Obama started out with wanting dialogue with Tehran, and Chas Freeman for his National Security Adviser? How much more clueless and naive can you get?
Yes, both of these moves would have been in America’s best interest. But who said anything about governing in America’s best interests.
Israel and its supporters took an instant dislike to both ideas, and consequently both were abandoned.
Patriotic Americans like Chas Freeman who want to serve their country are black-listed and treated with disdain, while Israeli-firsters like Dennis Ross get appointed by successive administrations and work against the interests of America in favor of Israel.
By the way, knowledgable people worldwide know that America’s interests and Israel’s interests are at odds, especially in the ME region- and It was no less a person than Henry Kissinger -war criminal par excellence – who said that America has no permanent friends, but permanent interests-
yet no politician in America can say this openly. No one currently vying for the presidency can say we do not agree with Israel or what Israel is doing is not in our interest. The clowns keep repeating that there is “no daylight” between the US and Israel.
No one. Not even Donald Trump who says he wants to make America great again, and loves to – according to him – tell it like it is.

Its pretty pathetic. Shame is dead in America.

VV Putin and Mr Lavrov should not waste any more time meeting with Kerry. Its all a joke. Everything Kerry says gets reversed after it is processed through minds of the NeoCons.
The next time Kerry wants to meet with VV Putin, they will reshuffle his meeting to very junior members in the Kremlin.
This shows a great schism within the Deep State of USA. The World is saying “WTF?” They cant get their lies and policys straight and The Saker is right, everyone is going in different directions. Hope one of those directions is not the nuclear football. With all the confusion going on, I believe it is entirely possible.
Great article, Saker, Great analysis and great writing!

Good comment.
Saker’s analysis is top notch. I just wonder whether he attaches too much importance to POTUS and his team. I mean it’s clear Obama is just a figurehead. I think Obama is smart enough to realise what lame duck he is. (Unlike the cowboys before him).

This may be an instance of the phenomenon known as “Mental Block”.
The notion of mental block may well be a survival mechanism. Perhaps our “consciousness” would be shattered if we too readily internalized facts that are diametrically opposite to our illusions … leading to madness. The nursery rhyme Humpty Dumpty.
i have read and thought about ‘baa baa black sheep’ as a sufi story for years, and now you bring in humpty dumpty and i think you are entirely correct.
breaking one’s illusions is a powerfully painful process and you then cannot put the peices back together again, notwithstanding the power of all the king’s horses and all the king’s men.
thanks for that insight.
the fundamental problem with spiritual ‘progress’ is,
that you cannot take your illusions with you.
It is clear that the ruling group in the US is deeply divided about how to proceed. But what is more important is that the discussion has cracked the MSM barrier with the tell-it-like-it-is irreverence of Donald Trump who is quintessentially in tune with the American zeitgeist as he is alternates between making flippant, idiotic faces and comments to making reasonable presentations of his ideas

Another example of how confused and at cross purposes the US ruling elites are –after Clueless Kerry gave Lavrov a high five promising military cooperation we get this:

As my teenage neighbor would say and perhaps the Russians feel the same reading the above, ” So? bite me !!” Especially as this is the military intel that allowed the bombing of the Kunduz MSF hospital supposedly. ( my take is that it was deliberate due to high value target allegedly inside).
Hmm yea…
Obama declares Médecins Sans Frontières a terrorist organization
We bombed a hospital? Of course not!
Well it was okay after all! US President Barack Obama today declared Médecins Sans Frontières a terrorist organization, with both chambers of the US Congress backing him up with a unanimous vote on terrorist organizations.
Thus he got out in front of the outcry expected from all quarters of the Western Truth-Press “We knew that the press wouldn’t waste any time about it if we perhaps hit a wrong target. “So standards of the press are maintained and suppositions quickly get turned into facts — unlike in Russia, where everything gets shoved under the rug” explained a visibly stirred Obama to the international press.
“So it ought to be clear to everyone that we weren’t bombing any humanitarian institution. Nope — this was part of our fight against a worldwide terror organization.”
Obama added that in the coming weeks there would be more airstrikes against the shady organization, primarily in Syria, Iraq, and Pakistan. Further, he had clear black-and-white satellite photos of members of this multi-celled organization trying to hide in embassies of Russia and China.
These too, could be declared legitimate targets.
This is completely necessary, since after the overthrow of ISIS in just a week by the Russians, the US administration is in dire need of come other boogieman.

Iraqi forces take control over last ISIS stronghold in Ramadi – military spokesman
Published time: 27 Dec, 2015 15:56Edited time: 28 Dec, 2015 01:46
Iraqi forces have seized the government complex in the center of Ramadi – Islamic State’s last stronghold in the western city, a military spokesman told Reuters. An official announcement is expected once counter-terrorist units dispose of explosives in the area.
“By controlling the complex this means that they [Islamic State, IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL] have been defeated in Ramadi,” Sabah al-Numani, a spokesman for the Iraqi counter-terrorism units leading the fight, told the news agency.
Al-Numani stressed the complex is under full control of the Iraqi forces with “no presence whatsoever of Daesh [ISIS] fighters” adding that some militants could still be hiding in “pockets that could exist here or there in the city.”

It is because we can not get anything like this that people are disillusioned by all the lies from the so called free presstitutes.. and they wonder why subscriptions have dropped by 90% in a decade.. Guess the state department endowments are still keeping them alive to spout even more nonsense even if no one buys it.
Russia’s game changer
Russia’s military intervention in the Syrian conflict in support of its long-time ally beginning on September 30 has transformed the dynamic. Russia’s intervention, along with that of Iran and Lebanon’s Hezbollah resistance movement, is the only lawful foreign contingency in the five-year-old war, because it has been requested and approved by the Syrian government.
All other foreign interventions in Syria from the United States and EU members, Britain, France and Germany, are in violation of international law. Russia’s intense aerial bombardment against all illegally armed militants, including the IS and Al Nusra Front, is not encumbered with the false dichotomy articulated by the US-led military coalition, which disingenuously divides militants into extremists and moderates.
In three months of Russian aerial operations, the losses suffered by anti-government militants in Syria have been much greater than during 16 months of bombing by the US-led coalition. That is because Russia is working in close liaison with the Syrian Arab Army, which is now making sweeping ground advances. Also, the US and its allies are accused of not being fully committed to combating terrorist groups in Syria, because these militants are at the same time being used by Washington and its partners as proxy forces to illegally achieve regime change in Syria.
Heresy of truth: Terrorist blowback
Most of the insurgent groups in Syria are in fact comprised of foreign mercenaries espousing radical Islamist ideologies, associated with internationally designated terrorist groups, such as Al-Qaeda and the so-called Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL). The latter claimed the massacre in Paris on November 13, when some 130 people were killed in gun and bomb attacks. But to say “blowback” in the Western media is tantamount to outrageous thought-crime. It is verboten.
The US, Britain and France have reportedly supplied weapons to so-called “moderate rebels” only for these weapons and indeed fighters to end up with the known extremist brigades of IS and Al Nusra. Saudi Arabia and Qatar have also funded Islamist networks, such as Jaish al Fatah and Ahrar al Shams, which are known to be involved with IS and Al Nusra.
Oil smugglers are us
Russia’s dramatic intervention in Syria has exposed what can only be described as a charade in which the US, European powers and their regional allies have been involved in trying to destroy a sovereign country through covertly supporting an array of illegally armed mercenary networks.
US-backed aggression in Yemen
A foreign war of aggression on Yemen by a US-backed military coalition of Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Arab states demonstrated a descent into lawlessness, where the United Nations appears more impotent than ever to uphold international law.
Nuclear deal with Iran… based on fake allegations
The conclusion in July of the P5+1 nuclear deal between Iran and the world powers was hailed as a triumph of diplomacy by US President Barack Obama. Of lesser note in the Western media was the decision by the UN nuclear watchdog, the IAEA, to terminate its 10-year investigation into alleged Iranian nuclear weapons development. The IAEA said it had concluded there was no evidence of any Iranian activity to build a nuclear bomb.
Putin speaks truth to power
Yet the year ends with the US and its European allies slapping more economic sanctions on Russia over alleged infringements in Ukraine, when conflict in the latter country is clearly, and provably, a result of the kind of Western interference that Putin highlighted at the UN.
Putin made a seminal speech at the UN General Assembly in September when he clearly called out rogue powers who have trashed international law with illegal military, political and economic interventions overseas. The deterioration of legal standards, sovereignty and explosion of conflicts and terrorism in many parts of the world can be directly attributed to the machinations of the United States and its European partners. “Do you see now what you have done?” asked Putin before the UN.
70 years on, Russia still leads the battle against barbarism
The year 2015 marked the 70th anniversary of the end of the Second World War, when Nazism and European fascism was defeated mainly through the military might and sacrifices of the Soviet Union.

Syria: It’s Not a Civil War and it Never Was
The weapons are foreign, the fighters are foreign, the agenda is foreign. As Syrian forces fight to wrest control of their country back and restore order within their borders, the myth of the “Syrian civil war” continues on. Undoubtedly there are Syrians who oppose the Syrian government and even Syrians who have taken up arms against the government and in turn, against the Syrian people, but from the beginning (in fact before the beginning) this war has been driven from abroad. Calling it a “civil war” is a misnomer as much as calling those taking up arms “opposition.” It is not a “civil war,” and those fighting the Syrian government are not “opposition.”
Those calling this a civil war and the terrorists fighting the Syrian state “opposition” hope that their audience never wanders too far from their lies to understand the full context of this conflict, the moves made before it even started and where those moves were made from.
The 2011 conflict was not Syria’s first. The Muslim Brotherhood, a creation and cultivar of the British Empire since the fall of the Ottomans was backed in the late 70s and early 80s in an abortive attempt to overthrow then Syrian President Hafez al-Assad, father of current Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The armed militants that took part in that conflict would be scattered in security crackdowns following in its wake, with many members of the Muslim Brotherhood forming a new US-Saudi initiative called Al Qaeda. Both the Brotherhood and now Al Qaeda would stalk and attempt to stunt the destiny of an independent Middle East from then on, up to and including present day.
There is nothing “civil” about Syria’s war.
In this context, we see clearly Syria’s most recent conflict is part of this wider struggle and is in no way a “civil war” unfolding in a vacuum, with outside interests being drawn in only after it began.
The Muslim Brotherhood and its Al Qaeda spin-off were present and accounted for since the word go in 2011. By the end of 2011, Al Qaeda’s Syrian franchise (Al Nusra) would be carrying out nationwide operations on a scale dwarfing other so-called rebel groups. And they weren’t this successful because of the resources and support they found within Syria’s borders, but instead because of the immense resources and support flowing to them from beyond them.
Saudi Arabia openly arms, funds and provides political support for many of the militant groups operating in Syria since the beginning. In fact, recently, many of these groups, including allies of Al Qaeda itself, were present in Riyadh discussing with their Saudi sponsors the future of their joint endeavor.
Together with Al Nusra, there is the self-anointed Islamic State (IS). IS, like the Syrian conflict itself, was portrayed by the Western media for as long as possible as a creation within a vacuum. The source of its military and political strength was left a mystery by the otherwise omniscient Western intelligence community. Hints began to show as Russian increased its involvement in the conflict. When Russian warplanes began pounding convoys moving to and from Turkish territory, bound for IS, the mystery was finally solved. IS, like all other militant groups operating in Syria, were the recipients of generous, unending stockpiles of weapons, equipment, cash and fighters piped in from around the globe.
The Syrian conflict was borne of organizations created by centers of foreign interests decades ago who have since fought on and off not for the future of the Syrian people, but for a Syria that meshed more conveniently into the foreign global order that created them. The conflict has been fueled by a torrent of weapons, cash, support and even fighters drawn not from among the Syrian people, but from the very centers of these foreign special interests; in Riyadh, Ankara, London, Paris, Brussels and Washington.
How to settle a civil war that doesn’t exist?
If the Syrian conflict was created by foreign interests fueling militant groups it has used for decades as an instrument of executing foreign policy (in and out of Syria), amounting to what is essentially a proxy invasion, not a civil war, how exactly can a “settlement” be reached?
Who should the Syrian government be talking to in order to reach this settlement? Should it be talking to the heads of Al Nusra and IS who clearly dominate the militants fighting Damascus? Or should it be talking to those who have been the paramount factor in perpetuating the conflict, Riyadh, Ankara, London, Paris, Brussels and Washington, all of whom appear involved in supporting even the most extreme among these militant groups?

Just as you thought things couldn’t get worse:
US spotlights EU-Russia sanctions compliance
US authorities have designated dozens of people and entities over Russia “sanctions evasion,” putting a spotlight on EU compliance.
John E. Smith, the head of the Department of Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control, said on Tuesday (22 December) “By … thwarting attempts to evade sanctions¸ we are once again demonstrating the United States’ unwavering resolve to pressure Russia to respect the security and sovereignty of Ukraine.”
Its list includes “14 individuals and entities linked to those that have engaged in serious and sustained evasion of existing sanctions or are 50 percent or more owned by a designated entity,” as well as “12 entities for operating in the Crimea region of Ukraine,” which was, last year, annexed by Russia.
Among the targeted companies are Deutsche Bank and Siemens.
They should keep it up…..and drive Europe right into the hands of Russia, China and the NSR. Good Work!

What this picture shows is these guys are not rebels who want to create a new just society for people, they are just criminals who wants control over their activities and no one to judge and punish them. USA is just a part of the NWO and is being used as a proxy because of its huge military machine. Many of the actions that the American establishment promotes are not always in favour of the american national interests or the American people’s best interests. On most occasions, the american and european people suffer because of the various free trade agreements and the transition to a globalised economy, the various U.S wars and invasions, the massive illegal immigration, the false flag operations etc
The notion the USA Empire is in decline is not correct as the elites that control economic Globalisation control do not think in nation-states terms. Furthermore, these elites control many more countries (such as the countries of G7, EU, NATO etc) and the economic institutions (IMF, WORLD BANK etc). 80% of global trade and production is controlled by the conglomerates of Multinational corporations.
Russia is targeted because it has retained elements of its sovereignty because of its soviet past.
Russia will have to be destroyed so that the New Slave World of globalisation will proceed.
