There is a lot of discussions going on about what Russia might do if the West ignores the Russian ultimatum. All I propose to do here is just share a few thoughts with you. This is not an thorough analysis, but only some musings of mine about what I hear.
First, Putin is both very predictable and, at the same time, very unpredictable. The predictable thing about Putin is that he only uses force when there is no other option left. The very unpredictable thing about Putin is how and where he is willing to use force. He did not intervene in the Donbass, which everybody expected, and he did not allow the LDNR to take even just Mariupol, nevermind the rest of the Ukraine. But when he moved a special task force into Syria, nobody saw it coming. Ditto for the move to protect Crimea from a Ukrainian invasion. When assessing Putin’s possible next steps, we need to keep in mind this paradox about him being both predictable and unpredictable. So moving nuclear nukes to Kaliningrad and/or Belarus is not the only option for Russia.
Second, there is no way Russia will simply start a war, not against the Ukraine, not against the EU or NATO and not against the USA. Only an ignorant fool would deliberately trigger a situation which might result in a planetary nuclear holocaust. But Russia has plenty of other options.
Third, while in the 60s the USSR needed Cuba to deploy her missiles to force the US to remove its missiles from Turkey, Russia has no such need today. Russian standoff weapons, both nuclear and conventional, can reach the USA from pretty much anywhere, including from Russia of course. Creating bases in Cuba, Venezuela or Nicaragua are not, in my opinion, feasible or even desirable: I rather see that money pumped into the Russian military.
Fourth, all USN carriers and other ships now have hypersonic crosshairs painted on them, and they know it. This will dramatically affect what the USN can be ordered to do or where to deploy. Some observers have accused Russia of holding the Ukraine as a hostage. This is silly nonsense. But yes, the Russians are, for all practical purposes, holding the entire USN hostage, from a small patrol boats to entire carrier battle groups. The only, but important, exception to this domination are nuclear attack submarines, where Russia has qualitative parity (or even superiority) but where the USA has a strong quantitative advantage over Russia. However, USN SSNs do not have modern missiles and they cannot win a war by themselves. They also have their hands full with China.
Fifth, we know by the size of the Russian ground forces currently deployed several hundreds miles away from the Russian-Ukrainian border that this is a defensive force whose task would be to stop a Ukrainian ground attack on the LDNR (Ukie forces, more of less of a similar size, are deployed a few tens of kilometers from that same border). So don’t expect Russian tanks in downtown Kiev anytime soon.
Besides, why should Russia interfere in any way if both the Ukraine and the EU are proactively committing cultural, economic, political, social and even spiritual suicide?
Sixth, we should not only focus on the European theater of military operations, let’s remember that China and Russia are now officially “more than allies” and that Russia can sell exactly the type of military hardware to China which would truly horrify the USA. Likewise, Russians can easily target US forces anywhere in the Pacific, covertly and overtly, by the way.
Seventh, then there is the Middle-East. Just imagine what Russia could deliver, quickly, to, say, Iran (while providing verbal, but meaningful guarantees to Israel that Russia would not allow Iran to use those systems against Israel unless, of course, Israel attacks first (Note: there is not much love between Russia and Israel, but at least both sides are intelligent enough to understand each other, so that helps a lot when needed).
Eighth, Russia has a huge advantage over US+NATO in electronic warfare (from the tactical to the strategic level) and she can easily use it to a devastating effect while NATO has nothing to retaliate in kind. This, by the way, also applies to the Middle-East where, apparently, Russia has the means to disrupt/spoof GPS signals over the entire region.
Ninth, we should not assume that Russia can only retaliate proactively, that would be a mistake. For example, Russia can do to Germany what the Kremlin did to the Ukraine: stop taking their calls and allow NS2 to be fully stopped. Why? Because while this will only marginally affect Russia (gas prices are already sky high and China was a lot of it), while being a death sentence to the German economy, especially exports. So actually allowing NS2 to get “indefinitely” (in reality temporarily) suspended would be the best and, possibly, even the only way to bring the currently delirious Germans back to reality.
Tenth, Russia could stop selling energy to the USA. Yes, the USA are importing plenty of Russia energy and if the Russians decide to stop this, the already clearly “pre-apocalyptic” state of the US economy will suffer even more and its not like the USA can turn to Venezuela or Iran for energy :-) As for “Biden”, he already had to release a part of the US reserves.
Eleventh, Russia could close her airspace to all NATO countries, I am talking about civilian air traffic here. Russia has the most expensive airspace on the planet, and if she shuts it down to western carriers, the resulting chaos in the air and on the ground will be total. As for the coasts of flying around Russia, they would be absolutely huge.
Twelfth, we all know that Russia has a huge advantage over every other country in air defenses. Combined with her advantage in electronic warfare and automated battle management systems, that means that Russia can deploy an “electronic cupola” not only over the Baltic or Black Sea, but also over the entire Ukraine or over major areas of the Middle-East. The US+NATO calls that “anti-access/area-denial (A2/AD)” and they are quite freaked out over this.
Thirteenth, then there is the obvious move: recognize the LDNR as sovereign states. There is a strong support for such a move both in the LDNR and in Russia. The Kremlin could do that without moving a single soldier or firing a single shot, and then watch what the Ukronazis in Kiev would do about it. My guess is that the Ukronazis would not do much about it, but if they do, the Russians will simply declare a no-fly zone over the LDNR and warn that any attack on the LDNR will result in the destruction of the attacking force. If the Ukies persist, the attacking forces will be vaporized while the rest of the Ukie military will lose its cohesiveness and break apart under the combined effect of Russian strikes and A2/AD capabilities. Putin recently spoke of “not yet recognized” and he spoke of “genocide“. Now that we know that a submarine launched Kalibr has a range “over 1000km”, let’s look at how a Russian sub can reach the entire Ukie coast from the very center of the Black Sea (Odessa would be less than 500km from that sub) and remember that the Ukies have no ASW capabilities at all and Soviet era air defenses only (and those are in terrible shape anyway). FYI – the Black Sea fleet has 6-7 SSKs while the Russian coastal defenses “cover” the entire Black Sea.
Fourteenth, it is rarely, if ever, reported in the West that the Ukraine has conducted terrorists attacks in both the LDNR and even Russia proper. So far, Russia has never retaliated in kind. But remember what happened after the Takfiris blew up several buildings in Russia? If not, what happened is the 2nd Chechen war and the total obliteration of the Takfiris in Chechnia (which all western “analysts” said was an impossible task to begin with). So far the FSB has successfully foiled all of the Ukrainian attacks, but if one succeeds, then it’s over for the Kiev regime.
Fifteenth, the Ukraine is currently building naval bases for NATO in several locations, including one of the Sea of Azov (that is the plan the two geniuses Johnson and Ze came up with). This plan is supposed to create a Ukrainian navy within two years. Can you imagine how easy it would be for Russia to let Johnson and Zelenskii “play Lego” for a little while and then simply disable these future bases?
I am quite sure that there are many more options which I have not even considered above.
The power of the Russian ultimatum is precisely in the fact that the Russians have promised to do “something” military and/or military-technical, but have not spelled out what that “something” might be. I bet you that, in reality, we are not dealing with one single “something”, but a succession of gradual steps which will bring more and more pressure to bear on the US and NATO/EU (not that the latter matters in the least). Keep in mind that while the USA can make counter-proposals they are in no position to make any credible threats, hence the fundamental asymmetry between the two sides: Russians can make credible threats, while the US can produce only more words, something the Russians have basically stopped paying attention to.
From now on, the game is simple: Russia will gradually turn up the “pain dial” and see how the Empire will cope with this. China will be doing the exact same as Russian and Chinese actions are obviously carefully coordinated.
My feeling is that Uncle Shmuel will let the Europeans squeal in pain and only provide them with “firm moral support for our friends, partners and allies” while only caring about one thing: himself. As soon as the pain starts seriously biting the USA, the latter will be forced to negotiate with both Russia and China.
At which point Russia and China would have won.
How soon will Russia turn up the pain dial?
By guess is that the first steps will be taken soon unless the US side shows some tangible signs of being willing to not only meaningfully negotiate but to do so quickly. Putin has just repeated today that no US delaying tactics will be acceptable to Russia.
So far, it appears that the US will make a counter-offer to Moscow. If it is the usual bullcrap about the USA’s exclusivity, the pain dial will be turned up very soon, in the next couple of weeks. If the “Biden” admin actually is serious and shows tangible, verifiable, signs that Washington will negotiate, then Russia could wait a little longer, we are talking a month, maybe just a bit more. But nobody in Russia is talking about years, or even many months. The clock is now ticking and the USA must act with great speed: before March for sure.
I will end on a semi-optimistic note: “Biden” has already surprised me at least twice and maybe “he” will do it again? Quite a few Russian analysts seem to think that Sullivan is the voice of sanity in the US admin. We also know that General Milley was not willing to risk a Chinese preemptive attack (which would be a fart in a hurricane compared to what the Russians could unleash against the USA if they decided to preempt a US attack on Russia). Maybe there are even more such sane voices in the US state (deep or otherwise)? Maybe the US will do what Russia did and try appear to retreat just to win time? Even that would be preferable to a fullscale war. Besides, the Russians are well aware of a possible delaying strategy, hence they made their ultimatum pegged to a specific deadline: “show us something tangible, not just platitudes, or else we will take unilateral action“.
Any sane US President would not try to “call Putin’s bluff”.
Let’s hope and pray that “Biden” has enough sanity to understand that. The US has just announced that an official reply will be presented to Moscow on Friday.
I remain very, very dubious, but hope dies last, I suppose.
Andrei
PS: today Putin spoke to Sholtz and Macron, yesterday with Johnson.
PPS: Putin has declared today that he is “fed up” with the West: “And when international law and the UN Charter interfere with them, they declare all this obsolete and unnecessary. And when something corresponds to their interests, they immediately refer to the norms of international law, the UN Charter, and international humanitarian rules. I’m fed up of such manipulations ”.
PPPS: just to give you an idea of the mood in Russia, today’s “60 minutes” talkshow on Russia TV featured not one but TWO generals who are both also Heroes of Russia, including General Shamanov, the man who destroyed the Takfiris in Chechnia, and who declared that Russia will “rip into shreds” any imaginable enemy. Does anybody think that Shamanov is bluffing? I sure hope not.
I should heard on Trunews.com that NATO rejected Russia’s ultimatum about an hour ago.
Clickbait.
NATO has no say at all here.
The only meaningful reply will be by the USA and it will come of Friday.
How do you know its coming on friday?
I thought they had a 1-2 months to respond…?
The US side announced it.
The Russian deadline was mid-January.
The US is moving faster than expected.
I can only welcome that speed irrespective of the contents of the US response.
Saker: Deadline mid-January. Just after the Russian Orthodox holiday, probably Monday the 10th of January, they will meet among themselves followed by a likely video call between Putin and Xi. If the US hasn’t shown any positive movement or desire to take shit seriously, Russia and China will begin to implement the pain. Buckle up.
Who set deadline at January?
The deadline of mid-January was because Russia knows the US intends the Ukraine war to start then. When it does, any “talks” will disappear.
I think Friday would the day too. The US empire loves messing up things on holidays. Christmas Eve would be an ideal day for the US empire for this reply.
Christmas Eve in Russia is on the 6th of January. New Years Eve is the big holiday.
So the americans are going to reply friday, christmas eve. One would think this is on purpose, as to fly under the radar.
I’m betting the answer will be accpetable to russia, why else do it on a holliday friday that no one in the west will be paying attention.
At the end of the day, its just more anglo zionist posturing, its all they have left.
Personally, that fact that its come to this, its absolutly ridiculous, no honor amongst thieves sadly.
Merry christmas to you and your family Andrei.
We have a new little one to celebrate with, lets hope for peace in the future!
It might be their way of saying: ‘we are going to have our holiday festivities as normal, so he’s something to chew on. Don’t bother getting back to us before January 10th…’
I would love to see the NATO/EU leaders if the USA accepts!
They will be in the position of Wile E. Coyote after he runs off the cliff edge and looks down.
Bonjour,
Reading you ’Russian can easily target US forces anywhere in the Pacific, covertly’ I was curious to what you were referring to. Very curious 🙂
Russian Pacific Fleet SSBNs are currently all deployed.
You can be sure that they are not alone.
Hi ,
Don’t forget the Bastion misiles battery recently installed on a deserted kuril island !!
It will be interesting if any specialist comment on this one !
Regards to all
No specialist here, but I know Kuril Islands are less than 5,000KM from Hawaii, less than 7,500KM from Los Angeles (San Francisco or Seattle even closer, of course). That is, geodesically.
In comparison, Guam to Beijing is about 4,000KM, Warsaw to Moskow about 1,200 KM.
These are kinda data military tactical bean counters pour over in stocking their missile inventories.
More than likely the Yanks will pretend to seriously discuss, to gain time, but ultimately won’t do much at all. They’ll make a ridiculous counter proposal that will only anger Russia more. And Russia will start doing some very interesting things just after the Orthodox Christmas…
Saker – Under “Eleventh”, don’t you mean “expansive” rather than “expensive”?
No, I meant expensive. Airlines need to pay to have the right in Russian airspace.
All countries charge for overflights.
But Russian airspace if huge and links the EU to Far East Asia.
Hence it is the most expensive.
How much money would Russia lose by closing its airspace to western companies?
A lot, I don’t know how much. But the point is that Russia will lose money, but compared to the pain this will inflict on the EU/US economies it will be well worth it.
The question is how much money Russia loses by alowing Western shenanigans. The goal is to bled out Russia by constant pressure and sabotage on every level imaginable. While avoiding any consequences.
Russia should impose consequences on every culprit for any misdeed and insult. Personal consequence for those behind, collective for organizations/states involved.
As long as Western oligarchy is unaccountable at personal level, nothing will change. NS2 situation and energy crisis shows clearly they couldn’t care less for fate of its peasants.
Probably gain in terms of kerosene costs
The real question is how loud will the Western airlines be yelling at their ‘lawmakers’ to resolve this issue if it arises when they are already suffering significant losses and being handed subsidies by their governments due to COVID? I’d say that those corporations will not be backwards in coming forwards to make their statements quite strong behind closed doors.
The overflights of Russian airspace have been closed for most western airlines for years already. I personally had to fly around Russia for this reason ~5 years ago.
Not true.
Virgin and BA regularly flying me Heathrow to Hong Kong over Siberia up t0 2020.
Okay, let’s examine the post-rejection action of Russia.
What do they need to happen? What was the Ultimatum gambit all about?
Ukraine cannot join NATO.
The West has to recognize Russia’s sphere of influence.
NATO has to roll back away from East Europe.
The US and NATO have to cease flying bombers, UAVs, EW planes close to any of Russia’s borders.
And all of this in writing signed by US and NATO.
So, let’s start at the top.
Russia will do any and all things to destroy Kiev and break Ukraine into pieces. Russia has an active criminal investigation agency to pursue Ukies for war crimes and crimes against humanity. Trials could begin that are very embarrassing to the US, Germany, France and Britain.
NATO depends on EU money. Russia will damage the EU economy through cut-off of energy and imports.
Supporting a useless military will be hard as EU economics gets worse each week.
Objects flying near Russia will suffer EW impact and UAVs will be downed. Russia has the means to make flying impossible. GPS navigation, electronic controls, and communications all can be shut off in any flying platform.
No Fly Zone over Russia’s sphere of influence will become normal.
The Arctic will become almost impossible for the West.
All these are possible actions Russia can take to get the results demanded in the Ultimatums.
It will also be embarrassing for Canada, as Jason Kenney (when he was Minister of Defence) gave the orders for the Canadian military to train the Azov Nazis. I am almost entirely convinced Canada is exporting weapons to Ukraine (the 1st is Saudi Arabia, 2nd Israel, 3rd? Ukraine -1 & 2 have been proven)
Canada has its military in Ukraine already on “training” missions. Rest assured that Canadian military equipment is also there. Jason Kenney, now premier of Alberta, has proven to be a political-social disaster for the province. As for Canada, we now have much worse in the personality of Chrystia Freeland, Deputy Prime Minister – symbolic role, but good for presenting as next Liberal leader candidate, and she has a very strong Ukrainian background. She was the ‘leader’ of the now defunct Lima Group attempting to overthrow the Venezuela government and carries a strong anti-Russian sentiment.
Canada can be considered a non-sovereign nation. We are thoroughly linked in to the U.S. military and economic systems and our foreign policy is mainly that of supporting all U.S. imperial actions – military of economic – around the world. Most Canadian parliamentarians are supportive of this sycophantic relationship.
A friend’s daughter was in Ukraine for 6 months as part of the Canadian “training” mission. It was a joke, hardly any of them spoke the language, nor did they know how to operate their Soviet era hardware.
So they cut the grass and drove visiting dignitaries around.
Chrystia Freeland is the granddaughter of a Ukrainian Nazi propagandist. She is also a former Harvard Rhodes Scholar, aka brainwashed convert to the cult of globalism. Needless to say a total Russophobe. As Finance Minister she has blown government debt though the roof.
Not a good time to launch “Canada’s century” LOLOL.
If I remember correctly, before she entered “politics” she was picked to write the official biography of George Sorros…. interesting connections.
Nuland and Blinken of course also have Ukrainian grandparents. Great for objective decisions in US diplomacy.
Chrystia Freeland is one of Klaus Schwab’s personally mentored & globally planted stooges.
Chrystia Freeland graduated from the WEF’s “Young Global leaders” program, class of 2005.
She is a genocidal psycopath, the same as the current New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern, who graduated from the WEF’s “Young Global leaders” program, class of 2014.
They, like thousands of others infesting the political, corporate, judicial, media, medical and military institutions all over the world, are part of that elite cabal of Satanic Globalists intent on hijacking the planet and bringing in the New World Order in which most of the present population have been culled, but for those of us remaining, “you will all own nothing, and you will be happy”.
You can examine the full publicly available list (which is not the complete list – there are many more whose names are kept secret) of Klaus’ mentored stooges at the following links…
[ https://wikispooks.com/wiki/WEF/Global_Leaders_for_Tomorrow ]
The “Global Leaders for Tomorrow” went from 1993 to 2003 (you will see names like Tony Blair, Emmanuel Macron, Angela Merkel and Australia’s Federal Health Minister Greg Hunt in this group), and it was superceded in 2005 by the “Young Global Leaders” program which persists to this day.
If a war advances their agenda, then a war it will be.
Larchmonter, all your comments are accurate except for the idea that Russia would want to destroy Kiev and break Ukraine into pieces. That would be a losing move, and it’s not going to happen.
Attach everything to Russia or to a new Ukraine, except Galicia, and feed that to Poland, so the perpetrators of the Lvov Massacre can catch up with the descendants of their victims ? Sadly, Poland’s leaders proved in the late 1930’s that they preferred national suicide to any peace treaty with Russia. This has also been proven since 2014, I think. Poland is not really bothered by Nazis. So giving Galicia to Poland is not a bright idea.
Let Russia take 50 to 75% of the Ukraine and let the rest just fester ? That would be a huge economic drain, a cesspool for guerilla resistance. And it would still allow NATO to ratchet eastward all their bases. It’s probably the neo-con wet dream.
Let every part of the Ukraine vote in a free election with international monitors, to choose their own future – association with Russia, regional statelets, or a reformed Ukraine ? That’s the unicorn solution, with pastel colors, an Easter bunny and Santa Claus to pay for it all. Without a UN Security Council resolution, it would be impossible to get honest elections recognized internationally. Many nations have had free elections where the outcome was predictable and was hated by the empire, so the elections were intentionally obscured or simply lied about. The Western MSM sent zero reporters to cover the 2014 referendum in Crimea, despite its importance and despite the official offers of security and non-interference on the reporting. The MSM didn’t bother to have on-the-scene reporting where they could make up all sorts of lies. That was either out of laziness, because they feared the lies would unravel, or – most likely – because the MSM didn’t want anyone even thinking about anything.
Give the ethnically Hungarian part of the Ukraine to Hungary ? Great idea, and that would move the income from smuggling over to Hungary. But that does nothing to solve the rest of the Ukraine.
The only good move I can see is to invite the younger Nazis to party in Moscow. Enough beer to lubricate things, and enough good food for real conversations with real Russians. That’s one thing no one is expecting, I tend to think those Nazis who have working brains must be acutely aware by now that their beloved Ukraine is in a hell of a mess, and that the cause is not the Russians, but their corrupt leaders.
And … we need to think about what the tribe with small hats are planning for the Ukraine, as discussed in the Israeli press.
@Cosimo,
Russia doesn’t want the people that come with pieces of Ukraine. Donbass is load enough on the Russian budget. 25-30 million people who can’t fend for themselves and whose assets as a nation have been sold off to the West and others for pennies is a giant welfare state. Food, heating, energy, water, medical costs would cripple the Russian economy. That’s not empty space in Ukraine. It’s got a huge population of uneducated and not very skill or resourceful people. The brains, talent and productive have emigrated since 2015.
There is a long shot proposition that Novorossiya may be resurrected, but it will become a stand alone state, not part of Russia any time soon.
If you read the words carefully of what the Kremlin has said about Donbass you will see that recognition of Donbass as separate states is as much as Russia will do to embrace the oblasts.
The other imperative the Kremlin has stated is they will force the end of the Maidan nazi government in Kiev if they have to.
So, what I wrote is accurate and based on Kremlin policy and action for 7.5+ years. Policy statements by Grizlov, Kozak and Surkov, Lavrov and Putin are quite clear.
Of course, if attacked, Russia will reconsider everything because war means Russia will have to end the Kiev regime, and the NATO support and the US supply and training and governmental operations.
What is very clear is no one will be running Ukraine as threat to Russia. Ukraine will be neutralized.
Russia should fund solution for root problem, which is western russophobic hereiditiary oligarchy.
Until they control western pseudo democracies, relentless attacks will continue. When Ukraine is cleansed, they will shift focus on another country. Most likely Poland. After Poland, Germany. And so on, until Russia is exhausted.
I thought the Donbas region was essentially a rich industrial and coal area?
Am I wrong in that? If so it would be no or very small drain on Russian resources, or even add to Russian resources.
Could you comment on that?
I honestly cannot see that region choosing to be a separate country given the unrelenting efforts of the West to look for weak-links to undermine Russia, which I think the Donbas would be as a separate country.
“Let Russia take 50 to 75% of the Ukraine and let the rest just fester ? That would be a huge economic drain, a cesspool for guerilla resistance. ”
I just read an article yesterday about how Russia has greatly enhanced its counter-insurgency capability based on its experience in Syria and Chechnya. Since the only part of Ukraine they will take over is Russian-speaking, my guess is any insurgency will have to be imported from western Ukraine.
Also, Russia is not going to “occupy” Ukraine in any event. They will simply remove the Ukrainian military from the regions they want, then organize the locals into the same sort of militias the Donbass has. There will be few or no Russian forces permanently stationed there. Russia will simply provide cover for the local administrations, and use their counter-insurgency and intelligence forces to contain any issues with western Ukraine.
In short, there will be no “quagmire” as some have suggested might occur.
The “insurgency” in Syria is not comparable to a potential insurgency in the Ukraine.
There was some support in rural Syria for a revolt, as shown by the 1982 revolt in the town of Hama. But, as a great many people have noted, the takfiris were ruined by their foreign supporters who turned it into a murderous criminal mass. As Sheikh Nasrallah noted, the takfiris murdered many times more Sunni people and far more Sunni imams than they murdered Shias and Christians. In rural Syria, Feb. 2011 to spring of 2013, most people were on the sidelines. But that changed dramatically when the villagers realized that the takfiris (who were doped up on captagon) would rape, pillage and murder them too, and that being Sunni was no protection. That’s when the villagers began demanding arms and training from the government in Damascus. This was really the turning point in the war. Village men were airlifted to Iran where they got 4-6 weeks of basic training and Damascus provided weapons for local militias. In short, the takfiris were far more a sock puppet, a mask for aggression by foreigners, than an authentic revolt. The rural people had few serious greivances against the multicultural, multi-religious government in Damascus, which also contributed to the demise of the revolt.
I know less about Chechnya, but I think it’s also not comparable. As in Syria, the CIA supported the “Islamic” terrorists, and the CIA is traditionally not the least bit concerned with the “hearts and minds” of the locals. In Syria, the terrorists were run by not just the CIA, but also by the Israelis who even had officers in the central operations room, and also by Turkey, Britain, France, Jordan, Qatar and Saudi Arabia. Those countries had no love for Syrians, and that’s why the takfiris so easily slid into the worst sorts of large-scale violence. Chechnya was more complicated, but I think one point may have made all the difference in ending two wars. The central focus and the purported reason for the war centered on Islam. And Islam, peace even being in the very name Islam, tends to favor peace, justice and reconciliation. This was the life of Mohammad the prophet, as any Muslim will tell you, so his followers are obliged to do the same. Wahabbism is a deviation, a heresy against Islam, and takfiri is Arabic for heretics.
The Ukraiane is quite different. First, religion does not unify the whole country. Lots of devout Orthodox Christians yes, but also lots of competing sects that has been encouraged by foreign powers for at least the last 100 years or longer.
There is also the corruption of the Ukraine in many senses. It’s not just politicians pocketing most of the money, but it’s also the rest of the people adjusting their own responses to making a living in a criminal environment, and finding rationales to justify their lesser crimes.
Ukraine may not be mainly Russian-speaking. Map of the Ukraine which show the percentages of various regions, Russian speaking versus Ukrainian speaking are on the web. Such maps show not just linguistic, but also cultural affinity, meaning Russia could encompass all of eastern Ukraine and the coast. But this is only a crude approximation. For one thing, there seems to be little difference between Russian and Ukrainian, or Malorossiyan as it was called 100 years ago. The distinction is cultural, not so much linguistic, but that still shows the loyalties.
An extremely important item, which the Western Lügenpresse is careful to never mention, is that Ukrainian nationalism and then Nazism was implanted and nurtured in the Ukraine by outsiders, for over 100 years. The German army set up a “Ukraine” in 1918 which didn’t survive WW1. Ukrainian “nationalists” were supported by Germany in the 1930’s before WW2, and the Ukro-Nazis were committing atrocities from the first days of WW2.
General Gehlen played a crucial role for 20 years, first as head of the Wehrmacht’s Abwehr during WW2. In the week before the end of the Third Reich, The American OSS plucked Gehlen up from a field in SW Germany and hauled him off to safety. Later, the Americans came back to dig up the truckloads of records Gehlen had buried.
Allen Dulles headed the OSS in Switzerland and arranged for the rehabilitation of Gehlen. Later, John J. McCloy, a buddy of Allen Dulles, from their days on Wall Street, became the commissioner of West Germany, 1949-1951 I think, and picked Gehlen to run the West German secret police. Gehlen matters because he had established a complete working network of Nazis in the Ukraine, and this survived 1945 intact. Yes, of course there was continuity in the West’s attack on the Soviets, later the Russians, using the Ukraine. But my point is that this network is very strong in Galicia, but also effective elsewhere in the Ukraine. And this network is aimed against Russia. In Western Europe, the CIA set up Operation Gladio (google it, there’s a lot) to create underground far-right cells throughout Western Europe, complete with serious weapons caches, as precaution against the highly unlikely premise of a Soviet invasion. When Soviets invasion proved a mirage, these cells were re-purposed, particularly in Italy, to perpetrate acts of terrorism which the lying MSM then blamed on the leftists. We don’t have the data, but I presume the CIA have prepared the Nazis to fight the Russians down to the last Ukrainian.
Even given the strong and long-time ties between the Nazis and the CIA, I would hazard a guess that the Ukro-Nazi movement could be split up, because the younger thugs, who haven’t been particularly well showered with US dollars, and who certainly have at least an ideology of nationalism, might be persuaded that true nationalism and true self-interest is for the Ukraine to be friends once again with Russia.
The point I was making is that Russia has substantial experience in counter-insurgency and also that Russia won’t be involved in “running Ukraine”, therefore any insurgency will be handled by locals, not Russia per se. When needed, Russian special forces will target and destroy insurgent groups, which is their emphasis. They won’t be engaging in “nation building” like the US tries to do and fails.
> Let every part of the Ukraine vote in a free election with international monitors,
Who cares about elections and monitors.
Let there be small statelets busy with quarelling and fighting one another, rather than looking outside, onto Cimea or Donbass.
That would be good enough.
“small statelets busy with quarreling and fighting one another” can’t work. People from a wide range, John Kenneth Galbraith to Lavrov and Putin, and from the 1930’s until today, that is, from the Soviets trying to get a non-aggression pact against the Nazis, down to the modern OSCE’s founding statements, everyone says that peace and security in Europe is indivisible. In other words, that outside forces too often pour gasoline on small fires – and no European country is safe when that happens.
The west has been escalating and increasing tensions and doing more provocations year after year for a long time. At some point a forceful reaction from Russia was expected.
But at the same time the west has a distorted representation of Russia which makes them believe Russia is weaker than it really is. It’s likely that after years of escalations the west was expecting Russia s concessions rather than Russia’s ultimatum.
So I wonder if for the west what Russia is doing with this ultimatum is a surprise or not.
So I wonder if for the west what Russia is doing with this ultimatum is a surprise or not.
Considering the dismal level of education and intelligence of western “specialists”, I would say that this must have been a total shock.
Also, for a smart person working in the West, warning about this possibility would put his/her career at risk as the western “intelligence” agencies are hopelessly politicized (remember all their past “predictions”).
I think zionazis won’t back down. We all know how delusional they are, besides, they need war. Here’s a reality check published at RT recently: Germany warns China its recent naval mission was just a ‘teaser’.
Well, after hundreds of years of plundering the planet, do you really believe they will just give up on their world domination project? I wish they would.
I say, unleash the kraken!
I agree. I think the west wants a global war. For the last 30 + years Russians have been handle as second class world citizen. They have no right to security of their homeland only the west have that right. They know what they are doing and they also know that at one moment Russia would say to here and no further. (Munich speech Putin) Are we at that point now ?? The plan is world domination. For that goal you need to take out Russia, because they do not give up there right. Why would they stop now ? Russian can maybe only improve its capabilities so why wait. Further the western population is let say mentally brainwashed. Russian are bad propaganda, no stop 24/7/365 for a full let say 14 years. (2007 Munich speech putin) They can use the same slogans as with the corana virus. ‘’ We are all in it together against corona’’, O sorry today we change the slogan a little bit ‘’We are all in it together against Russia’’. Or ‘’we do it for the older’’ can become ‘’we do it for the home land’’ Why would they stop. Europe will be collateral damage. Who cares about the millions of lives lost or hurt in europe. They did not care before so why now ??
UK and US among others have seriously overrated Germans and underrated Russian and Chinese for decades.
The probable reason was they needed to portray Germans as a superior military/production people to excuse the time it took to subdue them in two wars rather than admit both German generals and Allied generals were grossly incompetent and wasted lives in tactical errors.
US-UK rehabilitated Hitler’s favourite general Erwin Rommel in a film with James Mason around the time they wanted to re-arm West Germany post war and needed a “good German” image
The UK did not over-rate German industrial efficiency: they were realistic about it.
Until recently, German military activity was completely constrained as a loser of the WWII, so it wasn’t very important to actually evaluate it.
What needs to be evaluated is a pseudo-European military grouping with German leadership. That could be problematical.
I think you need to distinguish between the gormless politicians/civil servants and the media prostitutes on the one hand; and ordinary European people on the other.
I can tell you with absolute confidence that the peoples of Europe do NOT want a World War, they don’t want a regional war, they don’t want war per se. Why? Because in wars, it’s always the ordinary people who die and the politicians/media prostitutes who survive.
What Russia needs to do is find a way to speak directly to the peoples of Europe, not having to go through European media channels nor their ‘political leaders’.
@ Rhys Jaggar
“What Russia needs to do is find a way to speak directly to the peoples”
Exactly. And that’s why they canceled RT in Germany.
The minds of Europans had been and is being poisoned constantly 24/7 that Russia is bad, an aggressor and even backward a nation. Seriously this occurs every now and then in my country Holland, a very weak country the biggest satrapy andlapdog of the US which was taken over by the Germans in just four days.
The absurd anti-Russia propaganda has created the same toxic mental illness in america as well.
I believe less than 10% of the population of america has an even minimal comprehension of Global affairs.
It’s a sewer of lies.
Radio Free Europe? I believe RT already fills that role.
I think the bigger threat to Empire is China, because once China overtakes the West there is no looking back.
Israel on the other hand sees Iran as the biggest threat, both militarily and economically. If Iran gets loose, Israel will not be able to close the gap.
What Russia has is technological superiority at the moment. The gap can be narrowed and overcome in the future. The US does not need a confrontation with Russia right now when Russia is at her strongest. The other two (one for Empire, the other for Israel and AIPAC) are bigger strategic concerns.
My guess is, the US will climb down and back off quickly from Russia. But things will heat up elsewhere.
Thanks, Saker for this excellent site for news and analysis.
I doubt the US-NATO can survive that much longer without a drastic change in fortunes. All of the air is being sucked from their lungs and the empire is collapsing in front of us. It’s do-or-die time. I assume Putin is aware that something big is being planned and his actions reflect his ‘strike first, strike hard’ philosophy. I suspect he will not allow the west to chicken dance around the dance floor while buying time. Instead I think you’re right, Saker. He will keep the west off balance and unable to respond with some new action every time they try to side track the proposals laid out by Ryabkov in the not-an-ultimatum, draft treaty.
I agree strongly, that Israel must dispose of Iran to fulfill their plan, while the US needs to curb China, but these two needs are mutually exclusive, since Israel requires the Chinese terminus of the silkroad for their project. One party must lose here, either China or US, and Israel chose China beforehand. Fascinating how China has been built from Western finance, and has succeeded in becoming, more than an ally, with Russia, against the US. After this current business is set aside, with its secret ultimatums, this relationship will dissolve, the real question is how much it will cost to get in bed with a dragon.
The “cost” would be to recognize that China has returned to its natural place as the center of Asia and do business accordingly. China has never been a nation with ambitions for acquiring territory and imposing its values on others. China is about business, trade, and economic prosperity. Respect them and they will respond in kind.
Ummm, have you looked around the US recently? The US is not closing any technological gaps anytime soon. The US is living on the accumulated intellectual capital of the past. Unless they plan on actually reverse engineering one of those UFOs the Navy keeps whining are toying with them all the time, they’re not catching up.
There is also the fact that we all know the US will collapse into civil war in next few years. The society here is disintegrating rapidly to the point where even the Pentagon and CIA types that started the problem (or at least fueled it) admit that we’re trending into civil war. Add in the inevitable economic collapse next year, and the inevitable fuel and consumer good shortages once Russia and China turn off the trade spigots, and the whole thing falls apart. The game is over. The only choice the US has is to either accept defeat or have a tantrum, start a fight and lose even worse.
But the time is up. This is pretty obvious from the totally ridiculous European panic over a harmless variant so they can push through their idiotic Great Reset, meanwhile oblivious to the fact that the rest of the world is not going to play the game and join the metaverse. The collective West knows their time is up, and they’re realizing very quickly their idiotic plans are falling apart left and right and they have anything but time on their sides. All time does is allow China to leapfrog them even more.
So we’ll know shortly whether they’re going to tap out finally or go full retard and try to blow the whole world up on the way out.
Good points but Putin is allowing vaccine mandates in Russia via QE codes!! Come on!! Tro has been shown to be a deep stater globalist little hat butt kisser. Putin is probably the same. Putin could do A LOT more in Syria to stand up to the US and the Zionists but he doesnt. The Eagle may have landed in the US but the bear is fat and sleepy as well. As a proud American I love Russians and Russian culture. I used to really believe in Putin and I respect his domestic views on transgenders, marriage etc. Russia is 90% white and majority Christian. This is her real strength! American people hate the current government. We will go to civil war and fight. Russia needs to wait it out. Russia and US could be great allies if we had the right leader in the US!!
>What Russia has is technological superiority at the moment. The gap can be narrowed and overcome in the future.
But it won’t be. The American education system is in complete shambles at the moment. You don’t get innovation and technical breakthroughs from a woke class of idiots.
I know the tiff’s between Russia and the Outlaw US Empire, but IMO the first bits of pain are already being applied to the EU via the relatively sudden reduction in gas transit through the Yamal pipe. I also found it curious that according to the Russian readout, Putin and Scholz didn’t discuss gas at all, although it was made very clear that until Kiev “honors” Minsk, there will be no further Normandy format chats. A recent item announced that China-EU trade volume via rail broke last year’s mark which IMO cements the EU’s geoeconomic dependency on China. The new Scholz regime seems very determined to obey the Outlaw US Empire’s diktat in its relations with China, so a disruption on that front would be bad for Germany and EU. You discussed Russian energy exports and there’s NASA cooperation, both of which could be delayed. As far as diplomatic expertise, both Sullivan and Blinken are boobs and lightyears behind when compared to Russia’s diplomatic cadre. The Duopoly string pullers are also way out of their league. The observation Glenn Diesen made about NATO’s expansion setting itself up for this crisis rings very true, so it could be undone by reversing its steps, which at the moment seems the most logical choice.
But as Putin and yourself note, what’s at the core of this crisis is an extremely deep-seated Russophobia akin to the most virulent racism that goes back at least to the 1850s if not earlier. The animus against Russia will continue until that racism is utterly erased, an act that will take generations. So, while the surface features of the crisis have a solution, the roots will take great effort to undo.
The geniuses in Europe decided that instead of having long-term contracts for gas, they’d deal with spot prices (opportunity for speculation) — and now they’re erm… in a spot; and serve them right.
When I read the news (on RT) about Yamal stopping, I did a double-take because RF has never weaponised gas. Turned out RF is keeping its word — Gazprom is meeting its obligations according to Euro (De and Pl) customers. Gazprom books pipe transit capacity according to demand. No requests, no booking –> gas flow zero.
Unfortunately it’s not the geniuses who will suffer: it is the ordinary people who have absolutely no influence over “their” governments.
I have not witnessed racism against Russians other than in zionist controlled media and ZOGs of the west. Mind you, I am half a world away.
It is entirely manufactured as far as I can tell. Russia is, given its history, the natural enemy.
The battle is against Zion and its ambitions.
Once again the bastards have got us ready to kill each other for their benefit.
Deal with its (real) leadership and see how the trickle down effect works for them.
A proper and long term resolution to humanities problem is at hand if they would only grasp the nettle.
I’ve been Russophobic attacked on ‘Twitch’ from a frenchfry.
Trust me, they’re out there.
“…But as Putin and yourself note, what’s at the core of this crisis is an extremely deep-seated Russophobia akin to the most virulent racism that goes back at least to the 1850s if not earlier…”
Yes, Russophobia, that’s how the West disguises their greed, and their historical resentment for not being able to subjugate Russia and turn it into another 404.
My Friend, down at the Dew Drop Inn, mused about VVP’s statement of last Summer, “even if we sank a ship they would do nothing”. He mused on…
In that quote VVP was clearly speaking of the affair in the Black Sea, and a real warship, but now one might take the utterance as metaphoric – it seems that there must be some signal action of a violent sort, possibly an electronic sort and possibly against “a ship”, eg any focused “nazi” grouping. And that could be anywhere, even in the Chesapeake Bay. And possibly a fleet carrier, not a tin-can.
Recalling Steinbeck’s “Moon is Down” and the occupying nazi officers’ discussion of a dynamo wrecking itself “if you know how”, and seeing the usage “dynamo” as also metaphorical – the dynamo of the imperium is wrecking itself. Steinbeck might have written “generator”, but chose the broader metaphorical usage…
And noting that aboard Donald Cook there was a mutiny and that now, to-day, the great generals are afraid of a general mutiny, and the “biden” obviously hysterical in fear… And he noted that the good people of “Anoxia” have stopped believing. Or obeying. And the army is always the last institution to fail. Wm Pfaff wrote about that and the symmetry Szilard noted long ago.
I replied that the imperium is constitutionally incapable of retreat. The foundational structures require this, and that retreat would trigger the dynamo wrecking itself…which may explain the hysterical fear and panic in the biden. I pointed out that, as Russian “60 minutes” said, imperium is in zuswang. And incapable of stability.
It’s now two generations in NA that have grown up neither knowing nor caring about Russia and its status as a non threat in far distant lands.
It’s political operatives and groomed politicians that are the warmongering bigoted extremist cult here. Regular people, like in Europe, have the opposite view.
Now let’s comment on the US/NATO capabilities and what are they able to accomplish in case someone decides to attack.
Can you analyze please.?
Have you noticed that the West don’t discus or threaten – they just do (500 soldiers here, anti-rocket batteries there, sanctions over there etc.). They never apologise, justify and explain their actions. There is not a single protest against this madness which sees a united West going full on on Russia and their hands are completely free. This is in a stark contrast with the Russians who add explanation on justification on clarification and very often walk back their initial statements (Peskov is notoriously known for “oh, it’s nothing, just a friendly reminder that 14000 Russians have been killed by our Vukro partnyors and brothers”.
I believe that Russia is wrong to expend its credibility by hinting and never committing (They’ve been doing it for a long time). In such high-risk situations, you either put up or shut up. You would have calculated the odds, gains and losses. In the face of universal enmity of the West, Russia must start hurting them and the current attempts to water down the impact of the initial statement can only weaken their already awkward position (Russia is very fond of this tactic).
People tiresomely insist on Russia’s wonderful weapons and spirit etc. Has it occurred to them that the West will simply steer clear of domains where it’s relatively weak and attack where it has a serious advantage.
I am going to make my grand point here: Russia’s “ultimatum that wasn’t” doesn’t change anything. Nobody has been shocked, surprised or even miffed. The US might agree to “negotiate” in order to dilute the impact of the Russian drive. Beyond that – nothing. The problem has always been and remains – at which exact point does Russia do that frightening “something” if the West makes tiny but non-stop steps towards its goal? They are not in a hurry – they just need to neutralise Russia’s ability to obtain a convincing casus belli. This of course can involve occasional negotiations which serve to buy time etc. And every time some Russian delegate will wax triumphant that the talks were “frank and constructive”.
“Have you noticed that the West don’t discus or threaten – they just do (500 soldiers here, anti-rocket batteries there, sanctions over there etc.). They never apologise, justify and explain their actions. There is not a single protest against this madness which sees a united West going full on on Russia and their hands are completely free.”
That is it.
I don’t understand what Russia is expecting by using so many words, while her “partners” ostensibly ignore them. They do know the crimes they have been committing all over the world, don’t they? So I wonder what the use is of reminding them twice a day they are criminals and hypocrites, while begging them to be more sensible and honest.
It looks like a desperate attempt of appeasement. It doesn’t project strength and confidence, and I don’t like the feeling.
I’d like to hear from Andrei on this. I hope he’d prove us wrong.

the “ultimatum that wasn’t”
Don’t count on it, huge mistake!
Patience has run out…
I believe that Russia justifies its actions because they want to avoid a WW 2 type disaster at all costs because it’s the ordinary people who’d suffer ultimately.
I can’t agree with your statement that Russia doesn’t take action. They did it back in 2014, which severely undermined the US/NATO’s ability to walk freely towards Russia.
It’s clear from Putin’s statements that he has continuous lines of intelligence about the ground situation all over Europe. The preparations that have been made in Russia over the past two months show clearly that the Rus has calculated every possible scenario and that they have made sure that the possibility for a surprise from the US side is close to nothing.
Sad to say, there is a lot of accuracy in what you are writing.
The continuing threat and concern to Russia is the build up of material means to seriously harm Russia.
Russia can wait only so long, even if there are overtures from the US. The risk of NATO/US resources on Ukraine has to be eliminated, and I mean really, and directly eliminated, as the US knows what it is doing there and why.
The US has installed a missile base in Romania, directly pointing at Russia, with another under construction in Poland. I can see a play similar to that of Iran after General Solemani was murdered; Russia informs the operators of the Romania base to vacate in one hour, or be killed in its destruction, and then reduce it to rubble. No loss of life. No harm to anyone. But a very powerful message to the US/NATO.
I am obviously no soldier, but I know from my own life history that you have to eventually respond to the bully. I know I will be ignored or very much criticized for my comments, but I appreciate your comments and I will learn from them.
Thank you.
Read Andrei Martyanov’s blog. The US or NATO forces in Europe get obliterated thirty minutes after someone fires at a Russian or tries to set foot on Russian territory (or Ukrainian territory, other than the western trainers already there.)
Russian military doctrine says that if anyone attacks Russia, not only the military assets involved will be destroyed, but the command center that launched the attack.
Neither the US nor NATO are going to do anything militarily if Russia dismembers Ukraine. So that is not an issue.
There was an article in RT on Dec 21st about how the US is ramping up its ability to deliver LNG to Europe:
https://www.rt.com/business/543875-us-poised-to-become-biggest-lng-exporter/
Where would Europe get its gas if Russia imports were shut down??? LOL
Shut out Russia and profits increase for US gas suppliers. Life is good!
What about the people in the EU? “F@#k the EU!” to quote a well-known western provocateur.
I also read today that Russia had announced that western private armies are attempting to stage a false flag chemical attack in Ukraine. The US appears to be in a hurry. Are things going that badly on the domestic front?
This is not about war. It’s about money.
“This is not about war. It’s about money.” Pretty much the same thing in the U.S.
I agree with you it’s about power and money. I think, however, the US is not that flush with money right now. Besides, I’d think their economy has being quite fragile lately. The least they’d want is a war right now.
Unless they *want* a war to desinflate their economy’s bubbles while at the same time blaming others for it… Who knows?
Your idea is good, but the U.S. in more than flush with money….if you count mass printing of debt a kind of money. When/if the bubble bursts, yes, then we will see how fragile the economy really is.
I agree with you that the US *private sector* is flush with money. The public sector, however, is not. In fact, it is awash in debt. I’d say a war on Ukraine would be a very tough sale to the US people. The US know this money printing has costs. They are tolerating it for the objective of making the rich there obscenely rich. I doubt it’d be tolerated to go to a war in Europe. That’s one of the reasons I think this pressure from Russia will be settled by negotiations, and I think Russia fully understand this.
The more I contemplate this situation, the more I think the main goal is to show the US fragility to their european allies and the global south. Europe may very well get a good dose of reality with this situation.
I also strongly think there is more pressure to come, especially from China, which may show sometime after friday’s meeting between US and Russia. We’ll see.
There is currently no LNG facilities capable of handling the quantities required to supply the EU if Russia cuts off or has it’s supply to Europe cut. It will take 3 – 5 years to create said infrastructure. In the meantime, Europe will freeze and/or go into melt down.
Putin and Xi see themselves as setting up the new global order.
With an eye to the future order, what would Putin choose to do?
This is going to be based on the UN charter (which he just declared). So self-determination for the LDNR (Article 1, Clause 2). He’s about to recognize it as a separate country from the Ukraine then wait for the response.
I think Russia is putting pressure on the western side while at the same time defending Russia’s interests. What is a mystery is the west’s reaction. I think the US will try to buy some time by starting negotiations with Russia. The fact that there is a meeting scheduled for friday is indeed a good sign. Net results may not be immediately achieved, but at least they will start talking. This should relieve some tensions. I’d say the chances of war goes down with this meeting.
Things may be somewhat clearer after friday, both from the american side, as well as from the russian side.
Things will get more interesting if China *also* makes some demands, or take some bold action. That’d be a very interesting development, and would raise the Russia ultimatum as a strategic move to another level. This would probably make the West soils its pants…
“I’d say the chances of war goes down with this meeting.”
I disagree. Any US “negotiations” are just intended to kick the can down the road while they prepare further aggression against Russia. At the very least, they intend a Ukraine-Russia war starting in January or next summer, at which point any “negotiations” will become moot.
If Russia provides Europe with only the gas it is contractually obliged to provide and China buys up all other LNG for whatever price keeps it out of the hands of Europe using the 3+ trillion in US dollars it currently holds then the pressure on Europe during this cold winter would be intense. Will the US supply Europe with LNG if they can get a better price from China in US dollars. I think not. Money talks and a friend in need is a pest, get rid of him. (That’s my inner capitalist talking). China is sitting on a shitload of this funny money. The LNG it could stockpile has far more value. I think there is a myriad of ways China and Russia working in concert can screw over the west. It will be interesting to watch the game unfold.
Pilgrim, if money is the goal- China offers a higher funny money price for the gas-OK.No gas to Europe hmmm! So Europe freezes over.Their US buddies screws them over-good and proper, again (first time being-the EU folks just following the US diktats, NS2 obstacles, wars all over the planet causing immigration issues etc, etc ) really! I think not, yeah I know the pindos are like that crave greeed- after all Geeko- did say ‘greed is good’. Hear what, where is all this gas going to come from 9 in so short notice) to supply the EU folks? The pindos are already short themselves! Where are they going to deliver too-where are the storage / delivery facilities? No concrete proposal by Friday- the VVP does not take their calls. To quote minister Lavrov “they are not listening to us”, they are not serious.Maybe we may see in the spring if we can organize something eh not now, bye! Their stock markets / banks begin the domino effect-bingo all fall down in Yankeestan.
Is Russia withholding gas deliveries to Europe (Germany)? Is this propaganda, rumor or reality? Please clarify.
“Westward gas flows through the Yamal-Europe pipeline, one of the major routes for Russian gas to Europe, had been falling since Saturday and, after stopping early on Tuesday, reversed direction, data from network operator Gascade showed.”
“The flows through the Yamal-Europe pipeline dropped to 6% of its capacity on Saturday, 5% on Sunday, and fell to zero by today morning. Plainly put, Russia has halted its gas exports to Germany and it also transpires that Gazprom, the system’s operator in Russia and Belarus, has booked no capacity for transiting natural gas to Germany for the near future, either.”

I haven’t followed this closely, but my understanding is that it is conditioned by what “spot” orders were issued by the EU countries. In other words, for some reason I don’t understand, due to the high gas prices, the EU countries aren’t even ordering more gas. Under the long-term contracts, a specified amount of gas is delivered on regular schedules. Under the “spot” system, specific contracts have to be let under no regular schedule. In other words, this is an economic situation, not a political one.
It is a political one; Germany stalls the operation of NS2.
Eastern Europe wants to classify gas as green energy, western europe + net zero banking alliance are against it.
The west and banks want to bankrupt co2 producers, what better way is there than to artificially increase gas + electricity prices.
I’m not sure the U.S. can climb down as quickly as Russia would like assuming that the Empire even understands the precarious position “they” are in.
Let’s start with economic reasons. I’ll remove about 8 zeros from the U.S. government budget and put this on the level of the common person’s budget in the U.S.
Annual Family income $21700
Money spent by family $38200
New debt on credit $16500
Outstanding credit balance $192800
Total budget cuts this year $385
What would you do if this was the situation you found your family in?
Sell drugs? Prostitution? Theft? If the income stays the same how many years would it take to pay down the outstanding debt? What if your family was heavily armed and was percieved as the baddest on the block?
I expect the Empire to attempt to make minimum concessions to buy some time and close the technological gap with Russia. I assume the Empire will attempt to appease Russia and wage war on China as quickly as possible before Russia can help bolster China’s defenses. Attempting a war in Europe against Russia at this juncture is suicidal.
If you live in the “West” I suggest you enjoy this Christmas season with your near and dear. You may never see good times like this again in your life.
“O que você faria se essa fosse a situação em que encontrou sua família?”

“What would you do if this was the situation you found your family in?”
Get out!
Indeed, if you can run for the exit do so while you still can!
It is a common mistake to equate the finances of a family with those of a sovereign nation that creates its own currency. They are not remotely alike. A family can go bankrupt, while a sovereign nation cannot. Whether or not the US economy is currently in a precarious position depends on different factors altogether.
That is true Alan, I only really wanted to create a tangible example that is easily understood by just about every adult with a budget. Governments also have budgets. It is true governments can create their own currency but that sometimes turns out to be a huge problem. For example, massive inflation created by a government simply printing more currency to cover expenses.
Sovereign nations (yes you, Argentina) can go bankrupt. The US has defaulted 4 times in it’s history, although they attempted to spin it as something else. The coming one will be the 5th.
https://thehill.com/opinion/finance/575722-the-us-has-never-defaulted-on-its-debt-except-the-four-times-it-did
It is more like a corporate bankruptcy than a family one. The debt holders take a haircut in exchange for new “promises to pay”.
“What would you do if this was the situation you found your family in?” — sell F35 junk to anyone with a positive bank account large enough to raid and gonads small enough to ignor.

The price of gas is expensive, very expensive!
Let’s go in parts, as “Jack” the Ripper said…
First, relying on lower “market” prices, they didn’t fill gas reservoirs in the summer…
Second, if you pump gas through Ukraine, everything either explodes or will be stolen in winter…
Third, they tried a colorful revolution in Belarus that didn’t work, the Yamal across `Poland, is dry.
Fourth, the new Russian-phobic Germans will close SP2, that’s cool, really cool, half of Europe is going to turn to ice cream!!!
Fifth, something a lot of people forget about, SP1, which only supplies Germany (look at the flow returning to Poland today or yesterday)… If Russia closes that pipe, the Germans will be in trouble…
Sixth, the internal crisis in the US, that’s my concern, you don’t know who’s got the finger on the red missile button… It’s certainly not the current president, I think.
Seventh, the British… For me, they’ll be the first to be outflanked by smugness, followed by Israel (despite the many Russians who live there) and, third, DC (I’m taking into account the flight time of the missiles, that’s all) .
I know that, even here in Brazil, it’s going to suck and, believe me, the world will be better off if that’s the case.

I hope the moderator understands that the expressions in the paragraph above are regional from Brazilian Portuguese and not offensive.
This is pure speculation on my part of course but working on the premise that RF wants to avoid war as much as possible I offer three possibilities:
1. Really an expansion of Andrei’s 7th point: supply Iran with weapons, specifically S400. This — along with RF’s EW equipment and reconnaisance data — will to a large extent, negate the Zog and its master’s threat to Iran. If we’re lucky the ZioWahhabis in Saudi and that gas station that is the UAE will also show a renewed interest in the system — if I’m not mistaken they had gone smelling the system before. One sale to either and the cleavage between them and the Hegemon widens.
2. While I agree that RF doesn’t need Cuba or Venezuela to attack the Empire’s homeland, it will do no harm for RF SSNs to pay port visits in Central and South America, and occasionally (allowed to be) sighted in the Gulf of Mexico. Ordinary Yanks may not be too aware of the real tensions and dangers in Europe but if an unknown sub was to be spotted by say, a fisherman, and then reported and suitably amplified by the lying MSM as a ‘Russkies are here’ event, that might even shake the ordinary Yank out of his stupor and to take notice. There is nothing more life-changing than an in-the-face threat to one’s life and livelihood. Why, it may even make a bimbo on TV or in USG change her ways.
3. More frequent naval forays and flights out of Tartus and Khmeimim into the Mediterranean, specifically around Italy — iirc Italy has the most number of US bases and stores B-61 nuclear bombs belonging to its overlord at two air bases. Practice bombing runs in international airspace over the Med won’t hurt efforts in ‘raising consciousness’ in Italians and other Europeans either. The situation in Europe, as I see it, is rather bleak but I’ve not given up hope that ordinary Europeans — or at least a significant proportion of them — will wake up and smell the coffee. Once that happens, RF will start talking to them again.
The difference is two-fold: first, early warning of an attack – flight times are massively reduced from, say, the 25-minutes of an intercontinental launch meaning that retaliation systems are on a hair trigger representing a huge cost in terms of men, resources and the scope for error; second, for the general population, having missiles pointing at you from the other side of the world is much less concerning than having enemy missiles 150km away.

To me, there are many things Russia could do before resorting to arms. Russia could:
1) Sponsor a coup in Ukraine (by pulling off their own version of the 2014 Nazi takeover of the Ukrainian government. And then the controversy wouldn’t be over joining the EU. It would be the Ukrainian government telling the USA and its minions to get the hell off their land. P.S. China could do the same in Taiwan….
2) Cut off the energy flow to the EU (a PR move would be to frame these as disruptions for maintenance) and end all oil supplies to the USA.
3) Send armadas to either coast of the USA in a series of “freedom of navigation” exercises. These could also be combined with drills and Chinese participation.
4) Warn foreign military forces that any further disruption/endangerment of civilian flights to and from Russia will result in the disrupting plane being terminated or forced to land inside Russia.
5) Adopt a more aggressive posture in Syria by creating Russia’s own version of the USA Al Tanf military base at the intersection of the M4 highway and the Iraqi border and at the town of Al Bukamal. Both bases would have similar 50-kilometer “no-go” zones around them, mirroring the policy of the USA “to provide a safe margin for its forces.” These bases would effectively shut down supplies to the USA oil facility garrison. Furthermore, Russia could simply say that no more illegal oil shipments our of Syria will be allowed. (The USA could keep its soldiers there of course – and they could spend all day drawing pretty pictures in the sand).
6) In 2018, Russia flew two TU-160s to Venezuela. This could be done monthly and, if possible, these flights could also be made to Cuba and Nicaragua.
7) Russian Navy vessels could accompany Iran oil shipments to Venezuela.
8) Russia and China could end the economic blockade of North Korea and welcome the country as an ally.
9) Russia could (and should) provide Iran with S-400s or even S-500s. In addition, it should announce that it plans to work with Iran on creating a viable Air Force. It’s too bad the Checkmate plane is not available yet.
10) Russia could create a military base in Serbia.
All these moves could be done without actual “war” and the risk of escalation to a full-scale nuclear exchange. Of course, there is some risk to these moves, but not if the USA is clear-headed. In any event, all of these require the USA to take some aggressive action to initiate conflict – not Russia. This is especially important, because Russia does not need to initiate armed conflict to solve their issues. They need only signal that the West needs to back off, and the above list and other ideas would most certainly do that.
“2) Cut off the energy flow to the EU (a PR move would be to frame these as disruptions for maintenance) and end all oil supplies to the USA.”
@TheKasan It is under constant threat of sabotage from their extremist aggressors. Wink wink.

I’m about to get your book : Disintegration: Indicators of the Coming American Collapse.
Done.
I look forward to getting started right away, as I am excited about it the book. A Christmas present to myself. And I suppose a small one for you too, my friend.
Merry Christmas( even though the Orthodox Church has their Christmas on a later date), and a Happy New Year.
Sorry, wrong post. I was meant for another one. Anyways, best regards.
Good musing, imo.
However, re “Creating bases in Cuba, Venezuela or Nicaragua are not, in my opinion, feasible or even desirable:…” — the point is not about physical bases and missiles. On that point you are correct.
Such action is a psychological attack on an extremely brittle (and begging to shatter) US/nato facarde of hegemonic hubris.
The USA schoolyard bully will keep advancing on the “poor little boy from St Petersburg” until someone/something stands up to expose the “hidden” malaise and impotence behind the “olde white male” soiled loin cloth that Biden represents.
Such a Caribbean strategy is not about missiles, but rather about exposing the “derangement syndrome” du jour to global public discourse. Is it worth the effort? That is the unknown and perhaps some kinetic sparks in the Ukraine borderlands would be just as effective and less expensive.
The risk for those tiny Latin nations is huge. So much trust is needed! They will be designated enemy for hundreds of years! Think of the great people of Haiti who started the very first successful slave revolution/ independence war 1791-1804. They still are the most screwed nation in the Western hemisphere 230 years later!
Cuba has held strong, but of course the young Cubans are very apprehensive committing themselves and be crushed later. I am with them, but do understand their reluctance…
Russia begs for talks. Empire takes action. If there are weapon systems and/or personnel in Ukraine or anywhere in Europe that Russia considers a threat, Russia should simply destroy those systems and any personnel with no warning. Announce to the world this is now Russia’s policy. Any reprisal attack will be see a full Russian response, including nuclear. That’s what the U.S. does. Even our lapdogs. Why communicate this your opponents in-advance. Just take action. NATO mobilizes – vaporize Berlin. Russia’s foe is this ruthless and more. Russians are like little boys with their talk.
Yes, there is a difference between talk and action. As the old saying goes: ‘actions speak louder than words’.
The Americans/Israelis DO things. They talk a lot, but they also take action: assassinations, colour revolutions, targeted attacks, cyber attacks, invasions, selected R2P, blockades, and sanctions. And they make use of soft power: the financial systems (including the printing of money) to control/punish the rest of the world, and the media to broadcast their Narrative worldwide. Both Turkey and Israel have ‘tweaked’ Russia’s nose with apparent impunity.
Russia, we are told, has powerful weapons, but how does this get across to Joe Public when the media is silent? Yuri Gagarin shocked the world when he encircled it in Vostok 1. The USA ‘got the message’ when its U2 spy plane was shot down over the Soviet Union.
Russia has so many options, so we are told, but its enemies are now on its doorstep, hammering at the door, banging on the windows, rattling the cage. Not even a bun is thrown to the bear.
Now is the time for action: close the airspace, stop the energy flow, shoot down intruders, strengthen its borders, recognise Donbass as independent states, join forces with allies: China, North Korea, Iran, friendly states around the world, etc. Ditch the dollar.
Most important of all, let mainland America frequently know it is under threat of annihilation. Alaska is just on the border, and the USA can be attacked from all sides. Israel is also extremely vulnerable. Time for positive action, and dropping the subjunctive (could, should, can, if, may, might, and so on).
If it has REAL teeth, now is the time to show them.
The West assumes Putin will ‘react’ on their provocation.
They are wrong. Putin will not ‘react’ but act.
There is a huge difference in this.
Cheers from France.
The West would want for Russia to shutdown NS2 and it’s airspace. That is the blame Russia excuse the West will sell to the sheeple, in reality their goal is a totalitarian society after the “Great Reset”; no more tourism, no more flying, less cars, bankrupting small businesses (in favor of Big Business), micromanaging society with digitalization, never ending mass vaccinations etc.
After fall of Kabul and running away in middle of the night from Baghram air base i have no trust in the US army. If you can be defeated by Taliban, how can you face Russians and Chinese who are loaded with supersonic weapons?
How about inviting China to set up naval base in Kaliningrad if U.S. rejects the proposals? That will freak U.S. out for sure.
US will not back down yet. In their minds they can buy some time still. They just need to devour state economy or two. But where? For years their attempts were foiled to greater or lesser degree. EU of course. Scorched earth on their allies. Probably Albion planning, certainly smells like one and it does explain Brexit.
With allies like these who need enemies?
Regarding options available to Russia i will refrain from guessing, even thinking about it, but i will enjoy in its execution. Why tip the enemy? Let them stew for a change, maybe they will learn something. We know they need a lot of catching up to do.
Yes, we all could stumble into MAD due to US ineptness in anything reality based, but at his point where eternal slavery, destruction of all values and perversion is what awaits us-death is preferable. Living for something is far better but if that option is taken from you and dying is all that is left to you…well death then it will be. At least the debate what comes after will be finally ended.

Agree: “Living for something is far better but if that option is taken from you and dying is all that is left to you…well death then it will be”.

I am afraid if Russia stop any economic activity with EU , Russia will suffer more than the Europeans in the long term. I think Russia too is surrounded by more NATO countries than Russia has allied countries or regions surrounding or hemmed in by Russia. Now should Russia deployed nukes in kaliningrad and Belarus , I think the US and NATO
can also deploy nukes in the three Baltic states, and East European countries like Romania , Poland, Hungry and the rest with less equidistance from Russia. That said , then there would be 1000% COLD WAR. I for one as president Putin said the US and other countries will soon acquire hypersonic weapons and if that was the case then issues can get uglier. I think the only serious scare for the US is for Russia to put the gun directly to US’ head to get message. Cuba is just 90km or less from Florida in the US. I think as for Russia countering US’ with hypersonic weapons , that had already been the first option in the planning of Russia , consequently the reason they developed the Zircon hypersonic anti-ship missile. Of course Russia can deploy naval assets in the Atlantic and pacific in terms of subs , so too can NATO and the US deploy their subs in the seas surrounding Russia.Perhaps Russia has the military option to go war to run over the sissies in Europe and the US and that would be fine.
The Saker,
” Maybe there are even more such sane voices in the US state (deep or otherwise)? Maybe the US will do what Russia did and try appear to retreat just to win time? Even that would be preferable to a fullscale war. ”
15 points mentioned by you are sufficient to conclude that the USA (and 5-Eyes) would never engage in ‘a fullscale war’ with Russia. At the same time they would do exactly what they did since many centuries – in order to destroy Russian and allied societies, the Zionist-Capitalist Deep State used to mobilize Ottoman Turkey, the West European communities (French, German, Swede, Italian) and East European communities (Pole, Romanian) in past, which, now would include ‘Ukrainian’ (even God is unable to understand what is meant by ukrainian community!), Lithuanian, Estonian, Latvian. communities..
And, while standing on the door to 2022, a simple cool minded analysis would show that, Russian civilization (it is one of the very few civilizations in the world which sustained two types of imperialism: first, religious imperialism of Arabic Islam and Western Christianity that swept the world from 330 CE till 1914 CE and second, economic imperialism that destroyed the remaining since 1494 CE till date) has lost much of its habitat. There is NO space to continue backward. This is TIME to rebuild the Rus civilization-state – bring Belarus, Russia, east and south Ukraine, and if possible Armenia into an Union / federation and ensure every citizen gets high-level of lifestyle.
Anything short of that would be akin to kicking the can down the road – because the hegemon will treat Russian stand as weakness and double down on it by mobilising the European ‘serf’s which, in turn, would compel Russia to fight back (may be in an economic which would not be as favourable to Russia as it is today).
Dear Straight-Bat,
Please, explain what you mean by “religious imperialism of Arabic Islam”
@Balzoo,
I mentioned religious imperialism of Arabic Islam & Western Christianity that swept the world from 330 CE till 1914 CE —
It indicates (a) Arab Islamic empire’s invasion to the west of Arabia up to Atlantic coast and to the east of Arabia up to Bay of Bengal between 650 and 1300 CE , (b) (Western) Christian empires’ invasion of Europe between 330 and 1100 CE, invasion of North and South America, Africa, Asia, Australia between 1494 and 1914 CE….
Where the parenthetical analysis lacks, is in the 1914 termination of Western-christiandom, when this date marks its crowning milestone, Palestine! It is after all the conclusion of the ubermensch philosophy, ushering in the age of the absurd, as preparation for that age of terrors which is still to come. And Russia has by no means survived, since it was crushed under this boot of the antichrist, at that time; which some call a Revolution, while others call it by its proper name.
May Heaven consume you!
How will America respond to this Russian ultimatum/invitation to negotiate?
The best predictor of the future is past behavior.
And America’s behavior is best summarized by the words of Mike Pompeo speaking of his time as CIA supremo: “We Lied, We Cheated, We Stole … It reminds you of the glory of the American experiment.”
Well, the American experiment is a Frankenstein experiment.
And negotiating with the USA is worse than dealing with the Devil himself–as the latter is more agreement capable.
Perfidious Albion–the United Kingdom–spread its poisonous seed far and wide and spawned progeny like Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and its most cherished heir, Perfidious America itself.
What makes you so sure that “Russia has a huge advantage over US+NATO in electronic warfare (from the tactical to the strategic level) and she can easily use it to a devastating effect while NATO has nothing to retaliate in kind” ?
I’ve been told that in Egypt a french “rafale” disabled the electronics of a Su-35 (Egypt operates both of these aircrafts).
@ Yrr
Please let us know the source of the information regarding disablement of Su-35 electronics by French ‘Rafale’? You have been told – by whom? Was it a person [if such, what is his/her level of expertise in these matters], was it an Internet source or an article in a printed press?
its fake news. Egypt has put in an order for Rafale only 6m back. The aircraft won’t be delivered until a couple of years later. So Egypt as of now operates no Rafale.
Egypt operates rafales since 2015 : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dassault_Rafale
Russia simply needs to ignore Baerbock the farcical German Foreign Minister and route everything through Scholz. Merkel upstaged her Foreign Minister regularly. Simply sideline the Green and focus on the SPD man and drive a wedge through this unstable coalition.
Germany is already burning more coal even as it closes down nuclear power and the EU is being pressured to encourage nuclear power – the German economy is so fragile and now so vulnerable to China slowing delivery of components and Russian energy delivery
I remember a suggestion posted on this site that Russia reach out not to the German government, but rather the industrialists who favor greater rapprochement with Russia. Can’t remember if it was the Saker who suggested that, let alone whether it was before the elections or after.
And either way, I don’t know what it means for Russian mainstream media when, every time Baerbock is reported saying something dumb, some readers accuse the German population of voting for her. Clearly she isn’t chancellor, and last time I checked she only got 15% of the vote, and that’s not even a sixth of the whole voting base. I’m not even certain that foreign ministers are voted in by the people to begin with.
Besides, why should Russia interfere in any way if both the Ukraine and the EU are proactively committing cultural, economic, political, social and even spiritual suicide?
Exactly !!!!!
Be prepared while watching them implode in their own incompetence. That’s the route of least resistance.
ns2: “to bring the currently delirious Germans back to reality”
as a german i second this. DO IT! GOD DAMN DO IT ALREADY! this ppl deserves freezing and starving for some time
In Western eyes, Russia lost the cold war and is no threat anymore, merely a nuisance. They do not take Russia serious, and with Putin being political correct, appeasing and wanting to be accepted as partners, the West is more and more encouraged to push Russia into a corner until it is too late. The problem with this appeasement policy is that you will end up at the very last moment having the choice between a nuclear holocaust and a total surrender.
Russia should have long ago sent a signal to the West by shooting down an Israeli and Turkish fighter jet when Russia had the chance. Russia sent instead a signal of weakness.
By the way, another topic, did you know an F-35 was flying behind a landing passenger jet to Russia and was undetected by radar? Russia was angry about it saying it put the passenger jet in danger. It seems to me that is how how western pilots are being taught: shadow a passenger jet, it happened also in Syria with Syrian defenses taking down a Russian transporter being shadowed by a Israeli fighter jet. Maybe it happened also to MH17.
Reports at the time included ATC who said a few things and ran away fast, a Spaniard fella, I think, working the Ukie ATC. And eye witness mechanic who reported Ukie SU25 (modified to fly at 25,000 feet by Israel) returned sans missiles. Pilot bodies and nose section riddled with cannon fire, and so forth. Mechanic said pilots of SU25 said “wrong target”…aircraft of VVP maybe was real target – it was not far away.
So far as now, don’t fret, violence happens. Even in the Caribbean business the Cuban AD SAM-2 nailed a US U-2.
As to airplane F35…it’s a serving of loot to the maker and a coffin with major interoperability-communication problems. In real combat it’s a loser, but of course, dangerous. Modern digital AD radar sees it pretty well, ATC radar maybe not. One was tracked at the air show in Germany by one of the radars on display.
You can’t take the present situation outside the global pandemic context. What is being played at the moment is the implementation of Schwab’s Great Reset project. It is his side and nor Biden or Putin who will ultimately decide if a final war is necessary to advance the globalist plan. Let us not forget that both Russia and the US have their central bank under globalist control.

I am not sure that Putin wants a divided, poor and problematic Ukraine as a neighboring country. A territory that will only create problems in a political or humanitarian sense. It certainly has a plan for Ukraine. But of course it depends on the strength of Russia itself in economic terms. Ordinary people do not have the desire or knowledge to engage in geopolitics. When there is bread on the table, cheap gas and a workplace, there is no need to hate anyone. All this trendy Nazism in Ukraine can quickly subside to a small group of vengeful psychopaths who will have to flee because they have been known in the media and public for many years. A seemingly hopeless situation could be reversed. I do not dare to say directly, but here is an example: At the beginning of the intervention in Syria, the Russian command proposed the downing of American planes. Putin refused on the grounds that this is exactly what the Americans want. All right, so be it. And when does he actually plan to shoot NATO? If the West shows absolute hostility with military movements along Russia’s border, what does the mention of Libya, Yugoslavia, Iraq and Afghanistan have to do with the fact that it is time for action. All that politics looks like to me; a little dead and a little pregnant. Nothing I said at the beginning will be possible until Russia puts an end to NATO expansion. I do not believe that this will be possible by appealing to reason and any agreements. I see only Russian military action against NATO and US targets in areas that are important for Russia’s essential security. I don’t even think that Ukraine should be touched for now.
We have all heard through various sources, Martyanov, Orlov, and Saker the advanced technology RF has.
Anglozionist US/UK NATO sit on Russias front porch(Putin’s Words)
Putin has presented an Ultimatum ‘which isn’t now an Ultimatum’ Russia fully well knows how the ‘Partners’ will
respond. If…Putin/RF do not act boldly to a rebuff of their proposal…the US/UK NATO will continue until they stand on the Porch and Kick the Door down.
If Russia fails to act aggressively when threatened, it’s all over for Russia, Putin or no Putin.
The diplomatic mind games have been played out, it’s time for someone to get Punched in the mouth !
“who declared that Russia will “rip into shreds” any imaginable enemy. Does anybody think that Shamanov is bluffing?”
The russians do not understand the concept of bluff at cellular level as the amercans do – if they say that they’ll smack you down, they’re not bluffing, they’re not threatening, they’re doing something much, much worse – they’re making a promise.
“The russians do not understand the concept of bluff at cellular level”
You are mistaken.
Some Russians understand the concept and opportunities afforded by the bluffs of opponents informed by understanding the opponents’ concepts of bluff not limited to “americans”.
Hence the interpretation of notices of intent as “ultimata”.
Russia just needs to wait. USA $ is going to implode.
The OPEC scam was to support the $. Loosen the spigot!
Or spear the citizen to save the Feds.
***
There is an alternate view of Putin’s actions relative to the pandemic. To avoid Russia being further labelled as a pariah, and to go along to get along, Russia released a classic viral inoculation and not the experimental mRNA gene therapy being rolled out elsewhere.
The easiest way to avoid US provocation for Russia is to offer nukes to Palestine. I bet Aipac, ADL, Adelson, Soros, etc, and all the other zionist organizations and billionaires can convince the US to avoid the provocations.

US Considering Halting Russia’s Imports of Smartphone, Aircraft and Auto Parts – Reports
WHY CAN’T RUSSIA PRODUCE THESE SIMPLE ITEMS LIKE SMARTPHONES TO ALLOW AMERICA TO BE BLACKMAILING A POWERFUL COUNTRY LIKE RUSSIA THAT MAKES SUBS . I don’t understand this. Always sanctions this, sanctions that, and this prevents Russia to take decisive steps to confront the west seriously. Is Russia not making their own aircrafts and Automobiles yet in the 21st century?
Heh, imports of smartphones. Have these idiots ever heard of Huawei? China will happily sell Russia all the smartphones it needs.
Except in one year, to the date, they will mysteriously run out of chips and cancel the sale.
Time is ticking, we wait for the end of this crisis, whatever it will be. If I have to spend my 2 cents, I would remember that, apparently, Xi and Putin have already implemented a bank circuit alternative to the SWIFT, so that they can readily respond to any trick by West on this side. How many countries will participate? Probably many, with both material and human resources. This would be a huge blow, definitely splitting the world in two. For sure the US dollar monopoly would be at stake, with all the consequences on the West economy already in shambles. But my bet is that all the Anglo-US want is to isolate the EU as much as possible from Asia, and carrying on the reshape of their societies towards a woke/green soft totalitarianism, so in the end they will buy time negotiating. Of course incidents can always happen, as in WWI. Again, we are in the hands of God, let us hope He is not going to clap.
“He did not intervene in the Donbass, which everybody expected, and he did not allow the LDNR to take even just Mariupol, nevermind the rest of the Ukraine. But when he moved a special task force into Syria, nobody saw it coming. Ditto for the move to protect Crimea from a Ukrainian invasion.”
I think those decisions were very predictable. The Donbass regi0on voted under very questionable circumstances with a vote to separate around 50%, whereas Crimea in a pre-referendum vote poll indicated support for joining the RF with above 70%.
One also has to keep in mind the economic situation in Donbass, which even before the putsch in Kiev was quite bad in Donbas, and the fact that even persons with strong connections to Russia did not necessarily want to abandon links with Kiev. Crimea also had in previously two referenda voted for independence that gained them a limited autonomy, which was then threatened by the new Kiev government.
“The power of the Russian ultimatum is precisely in the fact that the Russians have promised to do “something” military and/or military-technical, but have not spelled out what that “something” might be.”
Gilbert Doctorow has some thoughts on that:
“As I have said previously, Putin’s entire approach is that Russia is in an arm wrestling match with one country only, the USA. He knows that the USA does not really care if Russia and the EU blow one another up: that would only enforce their global hegemony. So the iron-clad logic is that the Russians would also station their hypersonic cruise missiles just off the US shores as Putin threatened three years ago, when he spoke about Russia’s cutting edge, next-generation strategic weapons that had then and today still have no equals in the world.
That is the pistol to the head that will force US negotiators to break out into a cold sweat and do what has to be done to end the madness of their NATO expansion to the East and plans to turn Ukraine into a forward missile attack post against Russia.”
https://gilbertdoctorow.com/
Several years ago Pravda Report (en) reported, quoting VVP, saying that the missiles are back in Cuba. I was unable to confirm this, but I assure you that they did so report.
In strict military sense perhaps the idea, or the reality, makes little sense. But the political-emotional effect on US would, imho, be immense.> (search term: “pravda missile back in cuba putin”)
” It is no secret that in recent years, the U.S. created a buffer zone around Russia, involving in this process not only the countries of Central Europe, but also the Baltic states, Ukraine and the Caucasus. The only response to this could be an asymmetric expansion of the Russian military presence abroad, particularly in Cuba. In Cuba, there are convenient bays for our reconnaissance and warships, a network of the so-called “jump airfields.” With the full consent of the Cuban leadership, on May 11 of this year, our country has not only resumed work in the electronic center of Lourdes, but also placed the latest mobile strategic nuclear missiles “Oak” on the island. They did not want to do it the amicable way, now let them deal with this,” Putin said.”

Of course maybe it’s not true… Don’t bet on it.
If it’s not true, maybe it should be. They’re calling the current crisis the same as the “Cuban Missile Crisis” – so why not make it so? Of course, the US would probably then invade Cuba…or simply re-enact the original crisis by blockading the island. But then that would force the US to negotiate just as it did Kennedy. Kennedy had to remove Pershing missiles in Turkey to get Russia to agree to remove the Cuban missiles. Putin could get the US to agree to remove US assets in eastern Europe.
Yes, thanks. The Pravda statement was never denied. Perhaps it’s bluff, but my bet would be “ambiguity”, and I assume that the radio receiving station Lourdes – where many secrets must exist, is properly defended. Secret stuff and weapons go hand in glove. Ambiguity has some advantage over bald announcement of fact, in terms of strategy. But it can be done away with in a heartbeat.
In 1962 the US had overwhelming financial, and military, dominance. This condition is now no longer true. I doubt very much that the US is capable of invading Cuba or laying siege. In fact, the US was not capable of invading Cuba in 1962 – as such an attempt would have resulted in the invading force being fried crispie by Soviet atomic weapons. (there was a general mobilization and the invasion was to me massive – but Guantanamo was targeted with Luna flying a-bomb, and the East Coast with medium range rockets. B-59 came to one “vote” of firing a nuclear torpedo. Over 100 a-bomb were usable by local commanders. The invasion would have been a massive fubar-failure and ruined the US in 1/2 a hour. Kennedy’s deal added to the list of those good men who wanted him dead…and may have been the “last straw” leading to that parade in Dallas…the lesson being that “biden et al” are not capable of surrender to status quo ante – unlike JFK they’re not courageous. Rather something less than that.
I’m pretty sure that the present character of the imperium is fundamentally, structurally, constitutionally unable to surrender to status quo ante of 1997, and unable to expand. In fact it’s in zuswang… The implication is that the next big event will be a deliberate upsetting of the table, kicking the chess set onto the floor. Violence. Speaking of this>
see opinion > /moveable-feast-cafe-2021-12-19/#comment-999603 (AHH) This view of AHH is a very dark view, but probably just crazy enough to match the witless “experts” big plan. Accurate, I am sorry to say.
The extraordinary thing about the Cuban crisis was that unknown to the USA the missiles ere already in Cuba. i think there were 80 of them.
When McNamara led the push to block the Russian ship, triggering the crisis, he believed ie was preventing nukes arriving, quite unaware that they were already there. I think I heard somewhere that he was really shocked to find this out years later and it switched him from a hawk to a dove.
My guess is that when the back door chat happened between Kennedy and Krushchov he was made aware of this, hence the resolution of the crisis and US willingness to remove nukes from Turkey.
I imagine something similar may be happening- but surely the USA would not fall for it again!!!!!!!!!
“I imagine something similar may be happening- but surely the USA would not fall for it again!!!!!!!!!”
This seems a strange spin to place on current circumstances.
Given that in 1962 it was the USA itself that precipitated the Cuban missile crisis by covertly placing strategic nuclear weapons in Turkey, on Russia’s doorstep, then it was the United States as the aggressor which was attempting to entrap the then Soviet Union with this existentially threatening subterfuge – and not the other way around as you seem to imply.
Jump forward 60 odd years to the present, and once again it is the USA attempting to sneak strategic assets right up to the Russian border. The USA is clearly not the victim but the villain in this game – always has been, apparently – so perhaps we should hope that the Russians will not “fall for it again” (or better, that they will once again emphatically checkmate their incurably predatory American adversaries).
If it was an “ultimatum” then there would be no prospect of “negotiations”, there would be a fairly short time-scale and the next step (on failing to acquiesce to the “ultimatum”) would be war. It is stupid to refer to Russia proposed Treaties as an “ultimatum” – it is a “demand”. You more or less concede, with how you describe how Russia might respond, that there is no “ultimatum”.
An “ultimatum” would be a tactical mistake for Russia; “ultimatums” tie the hands of the issuer. Russia’s position is clearly to respond to how the US/West reacts or behaves and to retain flexibility. So lets stop with this bed-wetting childish “ultimatum” nonsense. Lets wait until’ there is an actual “ultimatum” – it won’t be something you will have to construe – and let us hope it turns out that there is no need for actual “ultimatums”.
It seems fairly clear that both Russia and China intend to win the “narrative” and the “peace” and to put the US/West in the position of having no options other than to commit militarily or to concede. The bluster in this article actually seeks to put Russia into this dilemma. How much some significant part of the US/West would love Russia to actually strike militarily at the Empire; Pearl Harbour redux!
An “ultimatum” would be a tactical mistake for Russia; “ultimatums” tie the hands of the issuer.
TRUE!
However I do not see Russia winning the narrative. The Western mass media and those in the controlled by them territories are impermeable to any undistorted message for peace and collaboration coming from Russia. The congenital russophobia is, unfortunately, widely disseminated amongst the populations aimed by those media.
S500s in Belarus and Crimea cover airspace in Eastern Europe and the Black Sea. S500s in Kaliningrad coupled with S500s in Serbia would cover airspace over Italy, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Austria, Czechia, two-thirds of Germany, and the Baltic and Adriatic Seas. A friendly deal with Serbia would help both countries defend their independence.
Russia cannot count on Serbia. A new US ambassador is arriving in Belgrade, a close ally of Holbrook and Clinton. His job will be to reign in the stooges who have slipped the leash…

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić “made certain promises” to his US counterpart while President Biden was vice-president during the mandate of Barack Obama, and that “it might be time for him to fulfil them.”..
“Quite a few Russian analysts seem to think that Sullivan is the voice of sanity in the US admin. ”
I haven’t seen any evidence of that.
And now we hear rumors that the usual “unspecified forces” are planning a false flag chemical weapons attack which will be blamed on the Donbass republics. More evidence that the CIA and the neocons are calling the shots, possibly bypassing both Zelensky and Biden.
Meanwhile, the US is already planning more sanctions on Russia while simultaneously claiming they will “negotiate” in January. Typical US response: Talk about “negotiations” publicly – while continuing to plan for more aggression. In addition, a NATO general is talking about moving more US forces into Eastern Europe.
The war between Ukraine and Russia is a done deal. And once that happens, there will be no “negotiations” and Russia will have to implement their countermeasures.
“…The war between Ukraine and Russia is a done deal. And once that happens, there will be no “negotiations” and Russia will have to implement their countermeasures.”
No, it is not. Banderastan is making lots of noise and provocations, so far there is nothing clear about their military plans. Russia has many options before blasting the Ukranazis to the Stone Age, i.e. deploying additional troops on the Western border, including Belarus, deploying intermediate and short range missiles pointing toward Eurostan and the lapdogs, 3B+PU, deploying nuclear weapons in Belarus and the Western border. Russia will undertake a war against Banderastan once the Ukronazis cross the line, and only the Russians know where the line is. Banderastan is low hanging fruit, the Russians will give them a lesson on good manners if and when they see it proper. There are larger and more strategic objectives to achieve before the Russians get to smack 404.
Lone Wolf
I disagree. According to Scott Ritter, NATO is planning *ten* – read that again, *ten* – military exercises in Ukraine in 2022. As I’ve said, the CIA and the neocons have convinced Zelensky that he has to do a “Hail Mary” and attack the Donbass again in order to keep his job. The transit fees get cut off next year. He’s out of time. He gets kicked out, the next President will be even less cordial and more under the thumb of the CIA and neocons.
Putin knows Russia has no time left. Ukraine has to put down. Russia won’t attack before Ukraine does, but it’s pretty clear Putin knows that is the intention. He ever referred in a recent speech to “what Ukraine…is planning to do.”
So the war with Ukraine is a done deal. Only if some other crisis derails it – or the unlikely event that a befuddled Biden can rein in his own administration – will it not happen.
Can someone who knows more about the Russian Navy than me help me with this question?
I want to know about the potential of Russia to bring some of its old submarine fleet of decommissioned and/or mothballed boats back into service?
How many old victors, akulas, etc. could be brought back into service for even just a few years until the new Yassens/Huskies can come out in larger numbers?
With the qualitative advantage Russia has in its submarine capabilities, due largely to modern systems and weapons, of Russia had a larger fleet with more boats having this capability, it would give Russia the availing to make the most of this qualitative edge while she has it, and when she needs it – the sooner the better.
How quickly could Russia’s old sub fleet be brought back into service and equipped with modern systems?
How much would it cost?
How many could feasibly be reactivated?
Maybe it would be better to just double or triple production rates of the new Husky subs?
I guess what I want to know is what are Russia’s options for quickly and substantially beefing up its submarine fleet?
The Russians are fully justified in these measures. The constant anti-Russian lies and incidents and trying to bring Missile bases ever closer to Russia, this is a reasonable Russian response. Is there enough sanity among team Biden and his Oligarch Puppet masters is the interesting question. The USA has been a rogue War criminal for so long, can they reform? May God bless Russia in this attempt to bring sanity to the world.
‘Fourth, all USN carriers and other ships now have hypersonic crosshairs painted on them, and they know it.’
People make a lot of this, and yes these missiles are even more unstoppable than previous. But, it doesn’t matter that much. Aircraft Carriers and even Navies have been obsolete for decades. Watch an early 1980’s Exocet missile hit the British Warship, the Sheffield. And, that is 1980’s technology. Missiles will sink any navy in short order and that was before any ‘hypersonic’ missiles arrived. They are even more deadly, but I don’t think they changed the equation as much as people believe.
Steve-how many lives were lost with the Sheffield. The hypersonics will be doing way more damage,3/4 thousand dead in one maybe two hits. Then too all the other vessels in the carrier armada are vulnerable-supplies,spares,fuel, maintenance -ammo,food you name it.What would that do to moral? How would back hone respond? Steve get real man.
Psaki has just announced the same nonsensical diatribe that they’ve been spewing for the past few years where, NATO is a defensive organisation and not aggressive. Only Russia is aggressive.
As if bullets and bombs won’t work for NATO if they’re aggressive.
Can anyone imagine to actually try and speak sense to someone like Jen Psaki??
My God!! Talk about circular nonsensical gobbledegook with a smile. Well, smirk.
Anyway, I suspect the US will continue with the Psaki tactics of living in a parallel world and pretending like nothing is happening.
IF America was actually going to change course well, we wouldn’t be where we presently find ourselves.
This is the moment where the players show their cards and there’ll be no more raising or bluffing.
The question then is, what will the Russians do in response?
I actually find the logic behind the West’s aggression towards Russia over the past many years as baffling. To me, what has taken place makes no logical sense so, in this world of 2021, where nonsensical is the theme under which we’ve all been forced to endure, I think the only true explanation to what we’re seeing unfold is ideological.
For some reason, there’s a hatred towards Russia. An ideological belief is all that makes sense to me.
This can be the only reason why, ‘The Scripals’, ‘Russia Hacked the Election’, ‘Trump is a Russian Agent’, Russian Aggression, bla bla bla.
And, because it’s ideological, it’s dangerous.
Russia has to defend herself against real Armies, real Navies and real Air Forces, all equipped with, real bombs and missiles.
But why has it come to this?
It makes no sense.
This has happened because, the people who really make decisions in this world hate Russia. Why?
I have no idea but, it seems to be the only logical driver behind the past 20 years or so.
I just hope it doesn’t go nuclear and Russia cuts the head off the snake rather than carpet bomb all of the innocents into oblivion of which I’m one.
Because, I don’t hate Russia or Russians.
I don’t get why we all can’t get along. Oh yeah… it’s capitalism.
Surely NATO headquarters is on the targeting list.
Cut off the head of the snake and all of the EU’s posturing goes up in smoke.
Sorry to say this but it seems than no one is taking the Russian demands/ultimatum seriously.
Have just looked at all news articles in the biggest Danish media companies, and there is absolutely nothing about this in there. No one is worried, no one cares or is discussing this.
God help us all
I think we will have a “Poland at the start of WW2” situation in Ukraine. Russian Federation forces will occupy eastern Ukraine up to the Dnieper. NATO will occupy western Ukraine.
That is of course if Kiev pulls the trigger first, or perhaps will Russia pull the trigger first?
NATO won’t occupy western Ukraine. Russia won’t allow it.
The difficulty is inflicting enough pain on the elephant that he feels it, without just shooting the elephant. Stopping oil sales to the USA would be very effective, I think.
At a higher risk level, the USA is predictable in crossing other countries red lines. For example the US Navy repeatedly sails through the Taiwan Strait.
If Russia were to announce a new red line, banning the US Navy from the Black and Baltic seas, they could be expected to violate it. This would provide the justification to sink such an offending ship.
I also suspect that China might sink the next US Navy patrol through the Strait of Taiwan, if they are coordinating together with Russia.
After the navy, the easiest targets would be the US surveillance aircraft that routinely test the borders. Using EW to shut off such an aircraft in flight would be plausibly deniable.
It is not an ultimatum. It is a life saving buoy for a (debt) drowning hegemon. Russia doesn’t want a disorderly collapse of the hegemon. It leaves the door ajar for a dignified retreat of the bald eagle from Eastern Europe. If the hegemon collapses like it looks to be doing so on its own, the scene will be left with just the dragon and the bear, which the bear doesn’t deem ideal. Why were the drafts for peace and neutrality made public? Because the hegemon wanted to entice the bear with false promises, or even give the appearance of holding secret negotiations, so that the bear would split from the dragon. The bear went public with its demands and complemented it with a videoconference with the dragon. The dragon now knows positively that the bear isn’t conspiring in secret with the bald eagle. The dragon endorsed all of the bear demands. To make it legit and credible, the bear now has to bare teeth and charge. But the bald eagle has received a life saver, one last time. There will not be any repeats. That is why it has been taken as an ultimatum but it is a helping hand.
I think what is basically happening is that Russia is trying to force the U.S. hand; their message is:
“Decide. Do you want to have peaceful relations along the terms that ended the cold war or not? If the answer is yes then the hostile activities must end.”
Russia is trying to force “Biden” to make a decision one way or another. No more ambiguity or pretending.
There is no need to include NATO in any discussion, IMO. The center of gravity is US. Once that center of gravity is gone, all vassals like NATO will be gone. Russian subs such as Borei class are likely to be working overtime currently along the US coasts and it won’t be surprised to see that Chinese and North Korean subs also are involved in patrolling US coasts, all armed with nukes.
Number 11 closing airspace has been something I have hoped they had done already. But closing to all wouldn’t be as effective as choosing a few airlines. If all airlines were blocked the extra costs would be added to the tickets and the consumer would pay. All airlines would have the same costs so none would be hurt.
Now pick only British airways but allow air France. One airline would be devastated. You could change which airlines but you get my point.
The US will reject the ultimatum, publicly. So what. For domestic political consumption, it has to. The real question is: How will the US act? In the final analysis the ultimatum is: don’t deploy significant offensive weapons near our borders. If you do, we will react militarily. Ok. If the US believes that a military reaction–an attack– will be forthcoming and it will get its ass kicked, the US will respect the ultimatum without verbally accepting it. The ultimatum is a great excuse for more profitable defense spending. That’s all the bankers, investors, and military-industrial corporations and CEOs really want. Not a war– that’s for the idiot fanatics. Idiot fanatics don’t run America. Idiot fanatics are useful, but they don’t run things. Incidentally, the same is true of the divisive domestic cultural issues: abortion, racism, sexism, white privilege, LGBT stuff–the shot callers don’t give a shit about any of these issues. They are useful to keep the peasants fighting among themselves rather than focussing on the fact that the system is run by and for the benefit of a few.
Any comment on this?

What does Martynov or others say about this hypothetical “analysis” found on YouTube.
Put them all into jail, because they transform our lifes in hell and war!
So, the question on the lips of all who comment on geopolitics is “Why now?” in response to President Putin’s ultimatum made to the US in recent days.
Consider this, (at least, those of you who are prepared to acknowledge the elephant in the room!). The West is not controlled by people or entities who think or act in rational ways. My simplified way of describing them is as, ‘pure evil’ that has renewed the age-old fight for dominance against ‘goodness’ and is now stronger than it ever was, threatening the world like a 5 mile high Tsunami wave.
Russia can see the dilemma, understands that it must be confronted now if it and the whole of humanity is to have any chance of surviving this current battle, (Putin’s use of the word genocide would support this). The citizens of the west have largely been Zombified, cannot see the problem and, therefore, cannot save themselves. They will eventually ‘wake-up’ if the evil ones are exposed and halted when they will turn upon their masters with a vengeance. Russia with China it seems, are the only threat to their global take-over plan and the forces of evil are becoming so desperate to overcome their resistance to the ‘great reset’ that they will soon unleash hell on earth to achieve this. Hell on earth may take many forms, including some that a rational mind may well refuse to consider. We do know however, that there are many bioweapon-labs positioned close to the borders of these nations, many nukes available and well-practiced methods of mass mind control in their arsenal. They have tested Nerve agents and Ebola and also have Rabies and worse, no doubt being produced ready to release soon.
I would suggest that Russia understands that this is what will soon happen and, that without immediate confrontation and a fully committed military force, ready to fight to the death, they, and the rest of us, will be overtaken by this evil force. It’s a role that the Russian people have played before and have sufficient memory and tenacity to enable them to do it once again.
If they can pull it off, perhaps the rest of the world will thank them this time. However, we need to pray and offer our support to them now.
This unbearable dispute&war seems like the one between left and right cerebral hemisphere. And Europe as corpus callosum in the middle. The problem is, mind has no heart, that’s why it will be very bad. The solution is so simple – but what to do, if they don’t do it? I would like to force them for peace!
Evil empire and partners slide into the “S bend” of history. Old women and older men all a pompous parade, wearing grand, invisible cloths. Starting to look a tad gross. You get what you submit too.
