This is an excerpt of the (relatively short) part of Putin’s speech dealing with foreign issues:
“We really want to maintain good relations with all those engaged in international communication, including, by the way, those with whom we have not been getting along lately, to put it mildly. We really do not want to burn bridges. But if someone mistakes our good intentions for indifference or weakness and intends to burn or even blow up these bridges, they must know that Russia’s response will be asymmetrical, swift and tough.
Those behind provocations that threaten the core interests of our security will regret what they have done in a way they have not regretted anything for a long time.
At the same time, I just have to make it clear, we have enough patience, responsibility, professionalism, self-confidence and certainty in our cause, as well as common sense, when making a decision of any kind. But I hope that no one will think about crossing the “red line” with regard to Russia. We ourselves will determine in each specific case where it will be drawn.”
So, what do you think did Putin have in mind when he spoke that?
To whom is this addressed?
Enjoy the open thread!
(question: do you like these open threads or shall I limited them to acute crisis situations?)
Cheers
The Saker
PS: the Russians are announcing that they will move some forces back to their permanent bases but, at the same time, they are still having large scale maneuvers.
Please keep the open threads going! They are superb outlets for creative, constructive dialogue. One of the last places left for such profound communication.
I think it is obvious, to the parties that have been tormenting Russia, who the President is speaking to.
I also think Putin left this vague but not ambiguous on purpose. The entities who are threatening Russia know who they are. And now, with no ambiguity at all, they know they will receive a response of a quick and harsh nature. One only wonders if and when one of them will put these words to the test.
Will it be Britain? Britain, US and the Ukronazis in Donbas in May? Will they go after Lukashenko again? Cyber attack on Russia proper? In Syria? Maybe Venezuela. How about Iran?
Only then will we see the real meaning of what Putin said. I have no doubt he means it and can back it up. He is not bluffing. West in a trap of their own making with even dimwit Sanders piling on now.
I think that this warning and message everyone should take very seriously.
All of them, Shere Khan and especially pathetic Tabaquis.
Because Russians obviously lost a patience…they have had enough.
RE Bosnian Croat on April 22, 2021 · at 1:41 pm EST/EDT
“Because Russians obviously lost a patience…they have had enough.”
Your assumption is predicated on belief in the primacy of the opponents’ agency in catalysing a “response”.
Assumptions are always in some assay projections.
The assumptions/projections of opponents are always useful in facilitating “response {which} will be asymmetrical, swift and tough”.
I predict, that The Jungle Book will soon find itself on the prestigious list of antisemitic publications…🤣
Accusations of anti-semitism aren’t “Woke” enough. Sadly even modern history is slowly being forgotten. Modern people know only two things—that is “racism” and “white supremacy.” Unfortunately Semitic people are also “white” and most of the “Woke” crowd couldn’t define Semitic if they wanted to.
Funny, Juden aren’t Semites and yet they keep calling themselves that when it comes to Anti-Semitic remarks.
Obfuscation and semantics have always been a trademark of theirs, like changing names when adopting new host nations. And then creating new Anti-Semite laws.
You’ve got it right my friend. Jews are Ashkenazi or Khazars. The only semitic jews are Mizrahim which stayed & thrieved continuously in the middle east & north of Africa. Sephardim jews living in Spain & Portugal are in a lesser way or can be counted as semitic people.
Look how the whiter European Jews are treating their darker brethren in Israel today, speaks volumes how the Ashkenazi poseurs are now playing white supremacist with the older original tribes.
I think Putin & his team have made it clear that it is not an issue about patience but prudence and not wanting a blood bath for the west and its sidekicks. The Russians are far more prepared, ready, and advantageously armed against anything the hegemon could throw at them to be impatient. The Bear could slap down the hegemon any time, but chose to forebear w/its nonsense in the hope that it would come to its senses and stop playing w/fire. Russia is not deluded, but hope is all that they can hold out to avoid a cataclysmic end to the USA & its equally foolish allies/ vassals
The Saker asked: So, what do you think Putin had in mind?
By removing adjective and redundant words, and focusing only on actions, The text will be reduced to this:
“If someone intends to blow up these bridges, they must know that Russia’s response will be asymmetrical. Those threaten our security will regret what they have done.
We will determine where the red line will be drawn”.
Thus I end up with the following Conclusion:
Someone is planing to blow up Bridges vital to Russia.
If so, the Russian Response will not be tit for tat, but be so severe that those responsible will regret it.
Russia will not publicly draw a red line, as it gives its enemies a red line to test.
But most importantly, by not drawing a red line Russian reaction becomes unpredictable.
One of such red line will be the cancellation of NS 2 – not only would Russia demand their money back right away, they would also ( highly likely 😁) turn off the other pipelines to Europe and Ukraine as well – if the Middle East go up in flames again, so goes the price for oil and gas and than Europe have fun with what’s left of your post, what ever it was, economy!
It is difficult to say what red lines are. We will probably see in near future
NS2 is definitly a red line. It NS2 stops, Russia will turn completely eastern and honestly, who can blame them? Thats why germany still defends NS2.
Germany will hold onto NS 2 as long Merkel is in Office, to make her not look completely like a fool – after she is gone in September, Germany will fold – Corrupt to the bone in politics and with a population without stamina, it will be a easy game !
The German population, and in especial great sections of the middleclass, besides stamina lacks something else and far more important: national self-respect. Those people don’t bother seeing their favorite party, the Greens, selling their country out to US-interests. Let them reap the fruits of their stupidity.
I remember there being a conversation on Moon of Alabama discussing the setbacks the Greens will end up with that may potentially cause them to lose.

Thats awsome! So telling and so basic! So skillfull!
I do not think that Syria, Venezuela, or Iran adds up to Russia’s red line. It is the not so stealthy creep to Russia’s western border by NATO that is hinted at. USA & NATO would be targeted, as well as any of the western and/or eastern European countries that are home to missiles aimed at the bear – would collectively be targets for destruction. Putin & Shoigu would have followed & analysed well – the steps & measures taken and positioned by the hegemon and gang – to launch a multi-front attack on Russia simultaneously. The move to check mate is the red line for Putin & team. Is the hegemon so desperate that it would play w/fire, & run THE very real risk of being incinerated & vanquished. Ah, fools go where even the devil would not!
Open threads are just fine with me.
Anyway, Russia retreated today:
https://www.rt.com/russia/521803-crimea-drills-military-bases/
So, no war this Spring.
I am convinced there will be a war between Russia and the West in the next three years. The only reason Biden “won” the elections is for the war with Russia. But it will probably happen in 2022. or 2023.Not this year.
America will not fight with Russia.
If there is war, American Shere Khan will push little Tabaquis into hell.
Yes, America can’t fight with Russia (doesn’t matter whether they want to or not – they know they will lose) but they’ll be happy to fight them to the last drop of Ukrainian or Polish blood, maybe the French, The Germans and the Turks, anyone who is stupid enough to try. For the foreseeable future the US/ UK and Turks will continue to train and transport terrorists across the globe if necessary because they are all cowards, gutless frightened cowards, this is also true of NATO. Powerless frightened children cowering in front of the abyss that is Russia, an abyss that will swallow them whole and not even spit out the bones.
I’m sure there have been many strong words behind the scenes, messages have been sent via Russias recent military exercises, however I do not trust the West full stop. Perhaps Putin is being statesman like (which is wasted on the others as they are little more than swine or children) Putin wants peace and to be left alone but I fear he will not get that as the assassination plot in Belarus shows. (still hasn’t been mentioned in ANY western MSM outlet that I am aware of) I don’t know whether this addiction to peace will backfire and whether this was the chance to put a spear in the ground, bleed the sore that the Ukraine has become and move on. We will see. In the west it is business as usual, hammering Russia, trying to make it look like the end of exercises was Russia backing down etc. Idiots but the lumpen believe it all.
West may understand ‘messages’, but they never learned the lessons.
that’s what happens when you try to negotiate with psychopaths/terrorists
Please remember much of the West’s actions are for consumption by Western citizens. This is not about acting tough but to induce fear in the taxpayers in order to justify decades more purchases of weapon systems that may or may not work. In the US, the deep state and the major arms manufacturers are only concerned about THE CONTRACT (i.e. their cut of the weapons contract and the secure belief that their will be more lucrative contracts in the future). Soldiers, citizens do not matter. The point is to make as much money as you can for yourself right now. The purpose of the low level conflicts is to keep poking the tiger with out really getting mauled.
The other cash cow for the DEEP STATE is China. Cut deals with the Chinese leadership to keep the US Consumer Market open to Chinese products, while in parallel eliminating american products by derailing American Industrial development/capacity with environmental laws, climate change, taxes and other regulatons. The CCP pays the American political class a cut of the 3 trillion dollars in trade. The oligarchical class gets to divide 200-300 billion dollars per year among an inner circle of oligarchs and lackeys.
The Shere Khan is UK.
I agree. Biden is their man which they have tried to very hard to place in the White House. 100% vouched by the Deep State, he will definitely give them the war for which they have been lusting.
However, time is not on the Empire’s side for with each passing moment, the stronger Russia becomes.
I have the feeling that the Empire will trigger the war despite the disadvantages maybe due to fear. Fear of being left behind before the disparity becomes embarassing.
I follow the Islamic eschatology framework of Sheikh Imran Hosein as my baseline to read world events which means I am sure that the war will happen as stated in the oral traditions of the Prophet pbuh as well as the not-so subtle hints made in the Quran about nuclear war.
Best regards and peace to all from Kuala Lumpur.
P.s. I recommend the open threads remain for it is a great source of intelligent exchange.
Not sorry to disappoint with your expected war within three years.
The West does not have the courage to attack Russia nor China nor Iran.
Sleepy Joe did not win the elections, contrary, he stole the elections from DJT, the real winner and not for the war with Russia. His mandate is to destroy America and hand it over to the Bolsjeviks. The 1917-years are in the rebound. Sleepy Joe cannot be waked anymore, leave him where he is best.
Back to Russia.
If somebody goes over the red line as Mr Putin said the russian answer will be hard, short, and to put it mild, destructive and furious. Where ever they may hide, Russia will find and destroy them.
Playing with the lives of the Western and Russian people by fooling around with wargames and lying towards our Neighbour Russia is over, political Boys and Girls of The West! Please, better stop your dum irresponsible stupid political and greedy behaviour.
One more step Eastwards and the West is trespassing. The West will be on the “receiving end” as a consequence of their perpetual aggression towards a country which wants only peace, trade and respect for each other.
I am forever amazed at the us throwing away away for real peace with Russia. Russia, made every effort to achieve a raproachment and at every turn the us took the opportunity to twist the dagger. They were only happy with Russia when it was as weak as possible.
Russia has hoped for the best and now it has acknowledged that the us is not even close to a friend or partner. All of the ex Warsaw pact counties has been flipped and approved russophobic clients have been installed in the name of democracy and “values”.
I hope the Russian people ignore the threats and provocations and build a successful country . The best revenge is succes.
The notion that Russia “retreated” as you say, has no basis in logic. There are not many indicators for large-scale war for the immediate future, in the next several weeks. The Ukies have moved tanks and heavy artillery near the front lines, but that’s about all, as I’ve read. For larger scale movements, the Ukraine military apparently does not even have the diesel fuel for trains to move supplies. So the real danger is somewhat later, if and when the Ukies bulk up their forces with US/UK material and instructors.
Russia showed its willingness to escalate and win any conflict, and they also got their military into tip-top readiness. The exercise is expensive in rubles and once the vaule of getting prepared reaches an end point, equipment and morale both deteriorate. So military logic says to call “finished” and return the troops to their bases, ready to move faster and better next time. That is not a “retreat” – and it’s a misreading to think it is. That would be a colossal miscalculation.
It would surprise me if Russia were to pull back all its long-range artillery and precision rockets, and I have yet to read that. From within Russia itself, even half the rockets and artillery could break the back of a Ukrainian offensive, at least enough to give Russia 2 or 3 days to react with full strength.
Russian “retreat” ??? The Russian invitation for the US Ambassador to go home “for consultations”, is a huge move, never done throughout the Cold War, or maybe once in 1952. This move can’t be read as Russian weakness. Alexander Mercouris has posted many recent videos where he doubts a hot war, but even he noted that the invitation to the US Ambassador to go back to Washington is a huge move. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=URedvZoxVgE Mercouris has a wide influence. I was shocked to read Scott Ritter, realizing he abandoned his crisp military style in favor of the rambling run-on British style sentences of Mercouris. Maybe there’s an echo chamber.
All the arguments which predict No War can be summed up in one undeniable statement: The Ukrainian military would certainly be defeated by the Russians, and quickly. Simple fact. But what if Washington decides, “The price is high, but we think it is worth it,” Madeline Albright was shameless in saying that on US television about the “600,000” Iraqi women and children whom the US killed. Really it was several times higher and Albright was promoted to be US Secretary Of Sate 8 months later. Total impunity ! The Biden neocons might choose to break Europe’s economy, break it off from Russia, and, as an immediate goal, prevent Nord Stream 2. We can’t rule it out. The world is slowly reaching the end of an empire and the Empire’s elites know this – probably more acutely than we do. The elites will be looking for what in American football is called a “Hail Mary pass”. So despartely crazy actions must be expected sooner or later.
At every stage since the Nazi coup in early 2014, the Empire has doubled down on its bets in the Ukraine, never de-escalating, not even in small ways. The Empire uses the Martingale betting strategy from the 1700’s which has a 100% success rate – unless the casino imposes betting limits. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martingale_(betting_system) In the clash between the Empire and a handful of sovereign nations, there is no casino and no limits. The casino is Gaia, and the gamblers are demons with nuclear weapons – either actual demons or the equivalent. Perhaps the US has sometimes de-escalated a little bit in Syria, but never in the Ukraine.
What I see from within the US, living in a blue state and unable to start real dialogue even with people I know well, is that there are absolutely no political restraints on this escalation. Nothing. Perhaps a short war with real US losses might wake up the people, but that’s extremely unlikely, and very dangerous. It’s a misreading of history to believe the domestic anti-war movement – which does not exist now – could stop this rush to war. The anti-war movement didn’t end the Vietnam War, even over a period of many years, and nowadays, modern wars only take a few hours. Wars take on a life and a logic of their own. And of course the mainstream media, the Lying MSM, the Lügenpresse, will continue to promote war fever, since that’s what they are paid to do.
I fear we will be seeing how the Fermi paradox operates, from the inside. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fermi_paradox
About the idea that the US would be willing to massively damage the EU in pursuing larger goals … I just read this quote from Poroshenko.
“Poroshenko, during his visits to Europe, said that if Brussels fails to “bring Russia to submission,” then the European Union itself will lose interest for the United States, and the Americans will begin a geopolitical invasion of Europe as an ordinary colony.” [My emphasis.]
FWIW, but it’s a novel thought. I think if Washington was to make its control of Europe more obvious, that would be a good thing, as the locals might start to resent the yoke more than they do now. Russtrat.ru has the article. You can feed this URL into Google Translate: https://russtrat.ru/analytics/22-aprelya-2021-0010-3953
He meant de-escalate, withdraw troups… English isn’t his first language… nor is it mine, so maybe that’s why I got him
I think that President Putin is sending a clear message to the west that Russia wants to have good relations but that the west had better back off the provocations. Don’t mistake patience for weakness and a lack of resolve.
Well stated.
This is going to go serious and it is inevitable so good luck to the war mongers as they will get what they have been praying for. Biden is NOT the president of USA and that will become obvious and evident very soon.
Those behind provocations that threaten the core interests of our security will regret what they have done in a way they have not regretted anything for a long time.
“I have already talked with one US President, and with another, and with the third – Presidents come and go, but the policy does not change. Do you know why? Because the power of the bureaucracy is very strong. The person gets elected, he comes with some ideas, and then people come to him with briefcases, well dressed and in dark suits, like mine, but not with a red tie, but with black or dark blue, and they begin to explain what he should do – and everything changes at once. This happens from one administration to the next.”
guess where these people sit?
I already posted here once that in case of a threat, the first targets should be Tel Aviv, the City of London, and some bunkers in the south of Chile and New Zealand.
Those blokes don’t sit. They report, sweating, to an equivalent of the mother of Howard Wolowitz in the sitcom ‘The Big Bang Theory’, who shrieks constantly through the house but is never to be seen.
It’s comedy, but I have such a feeling what the real family name could be, or similar clan names. In the end, these are the people that Putin means.
Btw, dear Saker, I like these open threads. It gives some more broader lines to the commentators which up to now results in excellent posts and discussions.
Cheers, Rob
Good call.
An interesting observation; they took down the Czar, the Kaiser and Hitler, yet thru all of this, the City of London was not touched, nor was the House of Windsor. Who else serves Red Shield?
London not touched? No Blitz?
John, City Of London, the one sq mile Zionist owned financial centre; not London the capitol.
Re first targets: Don’t forget Switzerland and also the Vatican where the orders come from for the west in the first place.
The west was pushing a certain line to keep Russia from extending influence
To the extent where traditional diplomatic efforts to resist this push by Russia were no longer effective
West and particularly US stretched diplomacy so out of shape as to make it meaningless
This forced Russia to resort to brinksmanship
Threaten to go all out and not some Georgia option
West was probably hoping for the Georgia option to paint Russia as the pariah of the global community
Russia instead indicated a willingness to go big
Looks like West was taken aback by this and blinked, thus ceding more influence to Russia
Now it looks like west respect the black sea more and Ukraine in nato wont wash with europe.
The West blinked. Exactly my feeling also.
Some time ago Lawrow put it already in diplomatic terms, that Russia is getting fed up with the western stupidity. Now Putin comes out clearly. If you don’t stop with your stupidity then (to quote Obama) ‘there will be costs’. And the West is not so stupid, that they don’t understand : when Putin draws a red line then he means a red line.
Putin once had a great vision. Economic realm from Lisbon to Vladivostok. I think he always hoped the the West would finally understand what would be the most reasonable thing to do, but meanwhile he has given up this hope.
Here is a great speech by him in 2001 in the Deutsche Bundestag outlining his vision. (In german only but worth a read with DeepL)

the open threads are great,,,,,,,the only thing that gives me a learned and clear perspective
i would not mind open threads on “hot news” topics.
on Putin`s comments i do not have much to say, he made it quite clear that silly games will have a pricetag for the anglozio alliance.
Hello,
I believe the quote section about destroying or burning bridges is both a metaphor and actual literal speak. There were rumours of Ukrainian Terrorists wanting to blow up the Kerch Strait bridge between Crimea and Russia.
I believe it is a stern warning that whoever destroys a bridge will see a lot more of theirs destroyed. That is where the asymmetrical aspect comes from.
I think tings are escalating again as the Ukrainian President as signed the bill for calling up reservists to the front.
> I believe the quote section about destroying or burning bridges is both a metaphor and actual literal speak.
Agreed. I think it was very cleverly worded as a literal metaphor with the Kerch Strait bridge in mind.
> (question: do you like these open threads or shall I limited them to acute crisis situations?)
I agree with Hank (above): “Please keep the open threads going! They are superb outlets for creative, constructive dialogue. One of the last places left for such profound communication.”
These Open Threads are stimulating, and one of the few places of value on the internet where anyone who’s genuinely interested in what’s really going on in geopolitics in these perilous times can meet and discuss matters in a focused and civil forum.
Hmm…..lots of bridges between west and east Ukraine over that big river there beside Kiev……oops…
I think Putin was referring to many things when he used the term bridge, but I think he was also issuing a very clear warning about the bridge to Crimea.
I think using Kipling was very, very clever and intended not for the USA (whose elite would not have read Kipling) but was clearly directed to the UK, which plans to send gunboats to the Crimea. They will have read Kipling. I think the UK elite are smart enough to get the message (although these days less clear).
In other words I think he was telling the UK that if they get involved is destruction in Russia they will cop a very heavy payback.
Yes exactly Kipling was chosen to send the UK a message. What use would a few Tridents be vs S500 missiles? 1980s tech vs current tech.
News at 11:
CNN reveals Kipling as a Russian agent.
“We interview an anonymous source, familiar with his thinking.”
“What he tells us is shocking.
I agree that Shere Khan is meant to be the UK and Tabaqui is the Czech Republic who under MI6 tutelage started the theater of accusing Russia of some crime in 2014 and throwing out 18 Russian diplomats.
1. any hot actions against Krim
2. any hot actions (however… explained and justified) against Novorussia (Donbas>/i>)
3. cyber attack against defense and/or critical infrastructure resulting in loss of life
4. all out economic warfare, i.e. shutting Russia out of the SWIFT system*
*while the alternative Rus/Chin infrastructures are established, a full blocking of SWIFT would still be seen, correctly, and extremely provocative aggressive war and should be categorized under UN as such – war of aggression
Grey areas:
5. nuclear strike on Iran?!
At the same time the Ukraine is now calling up all reservists?
I guess Russia will stop its pull back in view of Ukraine reinforcing its forces.
These open threads on Russia are good, the quality of the comments, including lateral thinking, explanations, counter explanations, new ideas, logic and critical thinking and the introductory article thoughts and comments, what freedom for intellectual and creative input! Thanks Saker.
My imput is slightly different and it looks at a wider issue which I call the baroque.
The emerging baroque culture wars are internally racial and political in the ‘west’ and externally Christian versus Buddist, Tao and Confuscian. While the capitalist versus socialist also forms the economic. Common sense and reason are the irregular developing baroque elements. Previously they led to a 30 year war.
The philosophies of Malebranche and Berkeley, with their radical challenges to so-called common sense, and their explanation of conventional understandings of the world as based on illusion, have something of the disturbing quality of baroque art and architecture.
Philosophers engage with themes current in baroque literature (the mad world, the world as a stage /star wars/, the quest for the self) and occasionally transform these into philosophical problems, especially of an epistemological kind (are the senses reliable? how far is our access to reality limited by our perspective?)
However I made a short video considering the consequences of this baroque thinking …
https://youtu.be/2fk55Z7HsqM
He addressed message to Shere Khan and bunch of miserable Tabaquis.
And they recognized themselves in this …they know wery well who is Shere Khan and who are Tabaquis.
Maybe this had been a specific message to the Brits (MI-6 has been very active in Ukraine).
Kipling means British establishment. They know that.
In the US, instead, people don’t even know who Kipling was.
I concur that this might well be aimed at the UK, and for the reason you state.
Here in the UK, our traditional form of governance has been completely overhauled, with Security, Propaganda, Behavioural “nudge unit”, Intelligence, being managed centrally by the Cabinet Office. It cannot have escaped anybodys notice that western Governments are persecuting a Genocidal war against their peoples, or that this belligerence is seen in the Foreign affairs. Under the Propaganda banner we have the 77th Brigade where up to 30,000 British army troops are deployed to support HMG Propaganda, along with other nefarious duties. This is a Tyranny; a Dictatorship operating pretty much regardless of and outside Parliamentary control. Our MP’s are to my view Right Honourable cowards, leaving the tyrants of Ociania to do as they will.
Yes, yes and yes Harry!
Agreed. They current political actions in the Chech Republik refer to Skripal events which are obvious british. And the russian reaction was harder than they expected…
Spot On. The main trouble maker is the City of London who instruct Boris Johnson. He is the creative genius who invented the Skripal stuff ‘on’the-hoof’ to help Theresa May from being attacked for her incompetence in dealing with 7 domestic crises of her own making. This was obvious from watching the interplay in the televised parliamentary broadcasts. Boris Johnson, whilst outwardly appearing like a clown, does actually have a cultured brain and will know he is being addressed directly by VVP… but Boris does not use his brain for constructive and moral pursuits. He shows clearly the dark side of his character – devious and a compulsive liar…not someone one can trust at face-value…so this public-schoolboy might possibly behave like a naughty kid at one stage…and need some thorough caning by the Russians before the message gets through properly.
Surely Bojo aint that sparky bright to think of Skripal stuff by himself….he has handlers and masters over him surely.
It was mostly copied straight from certain shoddy US TV “dramas”.
Skripal stuff wasn’t clever. It’s the exact opposite. Only the complete sheeple can believe such utter nonsense.
I’m just pasting this, which I think might be relevant:
WHY THE EMPIRE OF CHAOS IS PARALYZED
Pepe Escobar
Fasten your seat belts.
What you are about to read is part of an internal report by one of my top business/intel sources in the Beltway for the past decade and a half. Readers who received it include JP Morgan’s Jamie Dimon, Evelyn de Rothschild and wife Lynn, Blackrock’s Larry Fink, Michael Bloomberg – who would never hire me as a Bloomberg columnist… – Blackstone’s Stephen Schwartzman, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos and other assorted Masters of the Universe. I received a copy with all their addresses – which for obvious reasons I cannot make public.
This is a MAJOR bombshell – in the sense that the financial Masters of the Universe are now fully aware of sensitive intel not shared with non-military players. The question is what they’re gonna do about it.
The section of the report I’ll reproduce starts HERE:
“While Rome burns which I use as an extended metaphor about the hundreds of US cities that burned last summer, and the US faces internal disintegration, the Pentagon admits that the US cannot face a two front war.
The US cannot face a one front war in Europe alone and would be defeated in five to ten minutes. It is not widely known that the key means that the US has chosen conventionally to defend Europe was by its superior airpower which outguns the Russians. However, what also is not widely known is that the US will be defeated in Europe by the Russians in five to ten minutes by Russian hypersonic missiles destroying all NATO and European commercial airfields including those in England as it merrily sends its warships towards the Kerch Peninsula.
Whether all of our F-35 trillion dollar aircraft will be blown up too in five minutes depends on how fast the US can fly them out of harm’s way to some foreign shore. The remaining key question then is whether the US can evacuate Europe fast enough via a Dunkirk exit to escape to England or whether all the US forces will join their NATO comrades in a Russian prisoners of war camp.
The answer is that it cannot escape as it would take more than two weeks time to evacuate. This has been confirmed to me by the highest US military authorities.
The US use of recent sanctions on Russia was to send the message that the nation killer that they call SWIFT-CHIPS is in the US toolkit as the US reply to an invasion of the Ukraine. (It goes without saying that Nord Stream Two would be over and the pipeline presently in operation from Russia to Europe would be shut down.) The US thus is sitting back in this poker game in smug self-confidence that the Russians would not dare to invade the Ukraine, causing the US to pull the trigger on throwing Russia out of SWIFT-CHIPS payment system to their Iranian-style doom.
But the US has not seen the Russian cards in their hand yet, which would be to exercise their super financial weapon of closing the Strait of Hormuz with their ally Iran which is willing to cooperate, according to our best intelligence sources.
We have discussed this scenario with the Goldman Sachs derivative specialists in oil who predict oil price would rise to $500.00 to a $1,000.00 a barrel on such a closing, triggering the implosion of the 600 trillion to 2.5 quadrillion derivative market, destroying the entire world financial system.
The cataclysm that would hit the US would lead as in Germany in 1933 to a 50% unemployment rate or more, instigating the complete overthrow of the US government which is barely hanging on by a thread after last summer’s riots when the US military refused to intervene out of fear that its forces, as in Russia in 1918, would disintegrate along racial lines.
The defeat of the US in Europe would constitute the death knell of the US Empire as when Rome was sacked by Alaric and there would be cheering all over the world.
[Now comes the killer part, which left me, well, speechless]
The myth of fissures between Russia and China should be dispelled by the following article in the Asia Times where there is sitting on Putin’s desk a major offer by a major company to finance the redirection of all oil and natural gas going to Europe to China via pipeline.
It would constitute the largest commercial transaction in world history. China could then depend on receiving from Russia the natural resources that presently come by sea and Russia can replace all European imports to Russia by substitution and where that is not possible from China. This very deep article should be read very carefully. The hundreds of billions of dollars for this project are available today according to the highest intelligence sources.
Here is an important quote from the article:
“A closely guarded secret in Moscow is that right after German sanctions imposed in relation to Ukraine, a major global energy operator approached Russia with an offer to divert to China no less than 7 million barrels a day of oil plus natural gas. Whatever happens, the stunning proposal is still sitting on the table of Shmal Gannadiy, a top oil/gas advisor to President Putin.”

I read this as Pepe Escobar burning his obviously highly placed source to a crisp. Very interesting information, but If ear his source just got a very big target painted on his back.
Well, I think Mr Escobar has in the past been very much right on the money in terms of large-scale, public-facing developments as well as in non-public-facing developments that later proved to be likewise on the money. At first, as I read this, I thought it was him being funny and penning a parody of elite communications. But no, it appears to be sincere. I suppose he played with the wording to make it difficult to identify who leaked it? Or maybe it was “leaked” deliberately? What “major global energy operator” would risk entry into this deal? Only Gazprom, et. al., comes to mind, or maybe a Chinese energy major?
Makes me wonder what Lavrov and Shoigu communicated to US/MI-6/Nato behind the scenes that made them stand down. I doubt it was only weapon systems that caused the stand down.
By the way, if Iran hit Dimona with a ballistic missile, doesn;t that make a bit of a mockery of IDF’s missile shield and, in fact, invite more missiles?
I also like the open threads.
I think Russia is only about 3 to 6 months from leaving Swift/Mastercard/Visa voluntarily.

Sorry to keep it vague. But I have lost names and places in this anecdotical story.
There was a time where martial art practitioners roamed the land to seek confrontation with other fight schools, to improve themselves, acquire new techniques or gain fame.
On one such occasion a roaming student was to get into the arena with one such opponent.
Passing through the door they slightly touched each other, no confrontation intended, upon which one of the contestants immediately gave up. Being a professional fighter himself, he recognised the other person’s mastery and knew he could never beat him.
In regard to your comment about the content, or lack of, in RT.com. I dug up my old laptop. On said laptop I have an app that displays the location of the exit server for the website I am currently viewing. The exit server for RT is now in the USA, not in RU. This explains why the content we are seeing is so bad. Uncle schmel doesn’t let us see the real news.
But.
That was the whole point of RT.
The world/US needed a Russian worldview.
No one anywhere needed another tits-n-bums trash.
And they even fail at that.
“We really want to maintain good relations with all those engaged in international communication, including, by the way, those with whom we have not been getting along lately, to put it mildly. We really do not want to burn bridges. But if someone mistakes our good intentions for indifference or weakness and intends to burn or even blow up these bridges, they must know that Russia’s response will be asymmetrical, swift and tough.”
I take this to mean any form of weakening or destroying ties or services or trade to Russia. “burning bridges” would be like banning Russians from Europe (latest crazy news I heard), removing Russia from Swift, further sanctions of any kind, anything that destroys the proper functioning of Russia I would think that he is saying from now on, anything that burns or blows up a bridge or connection will get a response the other party was not counting on!!!
“Those behind provocations that threaten the core interests of our security will regret what they have done in a way they have not regretted anything for a long time.”
I think that’s pretty clear, as a potential provocateu, this would give me pause and maybe rethink my strategy!
“But I hope that no one will think about crossing the “red line” with regard to Russia. We ourselves will determine in each specific case where it will be drawn.”
I understand this to mean that from now on, they gonna determine by themselves where the red line is for each action and will determine the response that suits them best.
Additionally, Hal Turner brought up some interesting points on Putin’s references to the jungle book – after reading that, it made me reconsider what Putin might be having in store for “provacateurs and made me think we could soon see some changes happening globally! here is the link to this:

@Margie
Ok, in short. Next time Israel or US bomb Syria to protect ISIS, Kremlin will give Assad the S-300.
Next time if they do it again.
I think it’s quite clear…
– part over burning and blowing up the bridges is meant as a final warning to Ukraine
– part about “Those behind provocations…” is meant for US a.k.a. Shere Khan (how great metaphor is this)
– part about “…no one will think about crossing the “red line” with regard to Russia” is meant for “Tabaqui’s howling to appease their sovereign” a.k.a. minions of the US, jackals and hyenas of the global NATO.
And indeed Russia is announcing partial pull-back of the forces as a reasonable gesture of responsible player and a sign of a goodwill, but if empire misinterpret and continue further down the road there will be a hell price to pay. Everything has been said, next on the menu is just a brute force.
Putin addressed this to US.
US will accept the challenge and will try to upgrade their military technologies beyond Russia.
Until then there will be no battle with Russia.
I think this is good. However Russia should be sensible of not let her self dragging on to a arm race with US.
Nobody is going to find a way to defend against a ballistic missile attack with nuclear weapons. Not Russia, and not the United States. MAD is intact. The only problem is that some leaders in the US actually appear to BE mad.
The operative word being ‘try’.
The arms race never ended, however, the US lost a long time ago. Read Andrei Martyanov for details, see The (Real) Revolution in Military Affairs.
“….US will try to upgrade their military technologies ….”
They can try but they cannot make up the gap.
Imagine being in a 100 meter race and you just got passed by Usain Bolt or
Imagine being in a marathon and you just got passed by Eliud Kipchoge
No matter how hard you try, you are not going to catch that bus.
The United States of 2021 is not the lean focused machine of 1950-1970. Those days are gone. And no matter how much brain power the US imports or no matter how much money the US throws at a problem it will never catch China or Russia. Those bullet trains passed in the night and they are far gone..
For every one engineer the US can throw at a problem, China can throw three
For every one engineer in the US using a super computer, there is an engineer in Russia so steeped in the fundamental physics and math that he or she will solve the same problem with pen and paper before ever using a computer.
Game over. Accept it. Make peace and have a beautiful future
Resist and plunge the planet into war and darkness
First and foremost this is a stern warning aimed at the Ukro leadership. If there are any acts against Crimea or a large-scale invasion of the Donbass, Russia will target their command centres, airfields and AA-complexes then proceed to land paratroopers in Kiev and detain the criminal government at the least.
Second this is about the possible SWIFT exclusion. A response for russia in that case could be to shut off gas transport to the EU.
The Ukies already called for that this morning – removing Russia from SWIFT – seems the US only uses its Eastern European Tabaqui’s “howling to appease their sovereign”. They are on the wrong side of history:
https://www.rt.com/russia/521799-ukraine-request-cut-swift/
“Ukraine has requested that the European Union consider the possibility of disconnecting Russia from SWIFT, the international system of transfers between banks, suggesting that the measure be added to a new package of sanctions.
Moscow has previously warned it would consider the move “a declaration of war.” Former Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, who now serves as the deputy chairman of the Security Council of Russia, has also dubbed it a “punch in the gut.”
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba told Reuters on Wednesday that he personally brought up the idea with his counterparts from the EU. Kuleba believes this measure could be used to deter Moscow in event of the situation in eastern Ukraine escalating.
“If Russia decides to launch another wave of its open military aggression against Ukraine, a new round of sectoral sanctions – including for example banning Russia from SWIFT and these kind of things – should be immediately imposed on it,” he told Reuters………”
The Saker – keep the specific subject open threads going please. Especially during these times. Thanks.
Bernhard at Moon of Alabama also believes Putin’s comment is a warning about possible SWIFT exclusion.
His words: ”A clear warning. Likely aimed at U.S. plans to cut Russia off from the international bank messaging system SWIFT”
Also, I noticed in a defence analyst’s Twitter account this morning that a new Twitter account has opened for NATO Air Command, @NATO_AIRCOM (which is ”a ready, robust team trained, equipped and trusted to deliver Air and Space Power for the Alliance.”) And today, SpaceX lauched a manned crew to the ISS.
Perhaps Putin was refering to this bridge between Russia and the West as well? (the international space station)
Hi Saker,
The threads are great. The very fact that they’re sequential means they’re like snapshots of the brinkmanship we have been put through by empire and VVP.
Vagueness of the promised threats, I have no idea what he could mean, maybe the same flaccid FMA moaning at horrid “partners”. VVP missed an opportunity yesterday to say “piss off you’re irrelevant we are abandoning your toilet paper currency.” Until the threat becomes kinetic but not enough to provoke a strategic nuclear reaction, then it’s more of the same give the other cheek crap. United Russia won’t get majority vote forever.
Vagueness of the red line cuts both ways. Ze is also making vague statements of vague boundaries that NATO can interpret however it suits their mood of the day. VVP is also being vague about what his red line is. Vague statements are useful domestically for “we have warned them” crisis moments when they’re interpreted to be relevant. It won’t save his domestic reputation if he elaborates what his red line is only after orcs start genocide against RF passport holders in Donbass, rather than before, like now.

Putin keeps the door open for diplomacy with the US; too bad it’s falling on deaf ears
I hope not to be disrespectful but these are statements that have been made for years in one form or another and have never frightened the enemies of Russia (which Russia calls partners …) nor have they stopped their plans, thei aggression and their advance towards East. With the Soviet Union they never dared certain actions. Without having to say a word. P.S.: Open threads are good and useful.
I think the message is targeted at both the Israelis and the Americans. For Israel, the message is False Flags will not be tolerated. For the US, don’t allow Israel to drag you into a war that will require a heavy price. The recent tit for tat attacks on shipping and infrastructure between Iran and Israel have been an on-going nuisance. The adults need to put an end to it ASAP.
I think Putin is referring to the West in general and the UK in particular. The UK says it will send 2 warships to the UK Black Sea even when the US has already given up on the idea. The UK has been the most fierce western country against Russia and Russia is warning them
It also seems to me that Putin is demanding respect for the red lines that Russia draws, which will defend its interests more vigorously
I think these opens threads are relevant, especially when the MSM do not show how close a war was between Ukraine and Russia and the enormous destructive potential for Europe and this situation, although de-escalate, is not over
The Russian retreat is just a sign. It’s a cue for the West for also to de-escalate, and at the same time to save its face.
It’s worthy to note that Shoigu’s announcement of the retreat came just after Putin’s speech about “not mistaking Russia’s good intentions [read, the retreat] for indifference or weakness”.
So, everything now depends on the West understanding Russia’s retreat as a last chance for avoiding war, or, instead, to understanding it as a chance for attacking Donbass once there are now lesser Russians defending it.
Don’t be mistaken, Russia is prepared for both scenarios.
Dear Saker, please go on with the Open Threads.
When Russia and US once again exchange ambassadors, we can conclude the immediate crisis is over. Until then I will remain pessimistic that open war will be avoided.
I was just reading (on Zerohedge) that Zelensky has called up reservists for the front line, just as Russia is drawing down some of her forces. I think that this isn’t over yet. I just think that this is Act II of the “get Russia” current plan by the usual suspects and that the collective “Biden” is feeling its way along a path that they have decided to go down come hell or high water, like a blind man on hands and knees feeling a few inches ahead of him as he cautiously moves forward toward his goal, whatever that may be. Sorry for mixing metaphors..
Putin must also know this isn’t over yet, seeing the remarks he just made about external threats (aimed primarily at the US and Ukraine, although also, i’m sure, including the hapless Brits and Brussels). The drawing down of troops may be a feign to see if the Anglozionists will truly back off and thus avert a war or to see if it will embolden them to get their show on the road and attack *after* Russia has shown some measure of goodwill internationally by withdrawing some troops from the border area. I know it won’t make an iota of difference to the Western dummies who categorize any and all actions by Russia, including breathing, as “aggression”.
This is an old cliche, but, “it ain’t over ’till the fat lady sings”… and in my opinion, she hasn’t even started singing yet.
Russia has not lost its nerve. It now sets clear boundaries, exact points. Up to here and no further. By defining “its own red lines”, it signals to the other side that you must coordinate your movements. Every step can mean a Putin mine.
In addition, Ukraine will be fixed. Because if Ukraine does not comply with Minsk, then that will be the first red line. If counter-reactions follow, then Ukraine will be taken.
And from here on there is a risk of a major escalation. But if nothing happens, then escalation will happen one way or another. Sooner or later.
I wonder what significance the Empire places on its failure to get rid of Lukashenko? Russian naval escort of Iranian tankers to Syria is also a problem for the Empire. Might Putin have also had Israeli shenanigans in mind as well?
Recalling ambassador from Washington and de facto expelling US ambassador from Moscow were unmistakable and ominous moves as well.
A biological and or cyber attack on Russia will end in swift, merciless destruction of the perps…
Putin did mention also the Poseidon bomb.
That is new doomsday bomb:
“A cobalt bomb detonated in Washington DC could contaminate Canadian or Mexican soil. Schwartz estimates the cobalt would take 53 years to return to non-dangerous levels, and that other radioactive elements could persist for much longer.”
https://www.businessinsider.com/putin-doomsday-status-6-nuclear-weapon-2018-3?r=US&IR=T
I would appreciate it if someone could explain what happened to the Russian Neutron Bombs. Neutron bombs are “ideal” weapons of war as they kill biological matter but leave buildings intact and the radioactivity level disperses within one hour, safe enough for forces to pass through the affected zone. I recall the last time Neutron Bombs were a topic, Russia withdrew them ?? whilst the USA kept theirs?? It would be great to hear some insights about this.
Neutron bombs aren’t really a thing and are not really in active use anymore. They also don’t really leave buildings intact, the blast wave is still enough to level structures as far out as the neutron pulse is incapacitating. They also leave residual radiation from the casing components.. just not quite as much as a conventional warhead. It’s better in pretty much every case to simply use a full detonation and do more damage with the same warhead. The US I believe doesn’t have any anymore, but dial-a-yield warheads could possibly be retrofitted for this purpose.
There are still two major envisioned uses:
1) Anti-ballistic-missile warhead (The neutron pulse causes partial fission and can turn warheads into a dud). In this role, I think Russia actually still has some designed for this as part of the ABM defenses. The US had a bunch (e.g. think Sprint, bomarc), but it is possible to shield warheads partially from the effect and MIRV technology now has the warheads coming in far enough apart that you would need one warhead for each instead of possibly disabling all of them at once. Where neutron weapons would be possibly effective is as an anti-satellite weapon, but Russian/US/Chinese missiles are already good enough to simply just hit the satellite anyway.
2) Anti armor column -> vs massed tank invasion of, say, Europe, the tanks would survive the blast but the operators could be disabled. Given the number of warheads required, I think doctrine has simply shifted to ‘airforce is better’.
There is a coded message here(metaphor):
”Russia’s response will be asymmetrical, swift and tough”.
Swift, of course meaning fast answer and also…don’t touch SWIFT otherwise it will be a declaration of war de facto, de jure.
Very clever from Putin, but can Sleepy Joe or Nulandistan got it? Not so sure…
If it’s all business as usual, Putin was obviously referring to known leaders of Usa. If we are really lucky, he was adressing 10 or so families that are running things behind the scene globally.
Mr. Putin is obviously one of the few most competent leaders in the world today. Just imagine Mr. Potato Head trying to deliver a speech with as many words as Mr. Putin’s to the US congress of morons, live – it would be an utter disaster.
I will (fearfully) comment on two things Mr. Putin said in his address that just happen to be relevant to this open thread.
First, “But I hope that no one will think about crossing the “red line” with regard to Russia. We ourselves will determine in each specific case where it will be drawn.
Who better than Dr. Strangelove himself to ask what to me is the most obvious question in the world about what Mr. Putin said:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozg7gEchjuM
“Deterrence is the art of producing in the mind of the enemy …. the FEAR!!… to attack …. and so because of the automated and irrevocable decision-making process which rules out human meddling, the Doomsday machine is terrifying …… and simple to understand … and completely credible and convincing.
………
…… Now then, a specific and clearly defined set of circumstances (“red lines”) under which the bombs are to be exploded is programmed into a tape memory bank ………………………………………(the problem is) that, uhhhh, the whole point of the doomsday machine is lost … IF YOU KEEP IT A SECRET!” (That “we ourselves will determine in each specific case where it [the red line] will be drawn”.) “WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL THE WORLD, EH?!
Russian ambassador: “It was to be announced at the Party Congress on Monday”.
I read the transcript of Mr. Putin’s speech. Unless I missed it, Mr. Putin didn’t spell out to the entire world just exactly what Russia’s red lines are that are not to be crossed, or that, if they are crossed, might start the WWIII doomsday machine running.
I think that being specific is of utmost importance at this particular time in history, with barbarians once again almost literally at the gate(s) of Russia.
I’m definitely speaking only for myself when I say that I have no idea what either Russia’s TRUE red lines are or what Russia’s responses will be if they are crossed, except that the latter are likely going to be, if recent Russian responses to “Western” aggressive military and political actions are taken as a guide for Russia’s future responses, proportional / tit-for-tat. But proportional or tit-for-tat responses might not be as obvious or easy as booting out diplomats from, or preventing certain people from entering, Russia.
For just one example among many possible examples of possible Russian red lines being crossed (bridges burned) and the difficulty of responding in a tit-for-tat manner, if, and I do mean if, a small portion of the Kerch Strait bridge (now INSIDE Russia’s borders, right?) were to be damaged by a “Western” military strike, a strike in which, say, there is no direct loss of human life, but which renders the bridge un-usable for at least some lengthy period of time, just exactly WHAT would Russia’s proportional or tit-for-tat response be to that particular aggression/red-line-crossing? Is it better for Russia to spell out EXACTLY what Russia’s response would be to a military strike on the Kerch Strait bridge for all to hear, or to keep that response a secret even from the people who would likely plan and carry out the attack and, therefore, let them hypothesize what Russia’s “proportional” response would “probably” be? Do you think that Russia has already spelled out to the State Department what that response would be? Would it be a good thing or a bad thing that in one-person-one-vote democracies such as Russia’s and the US’s, the voters should be aware that if Russia’s (not “Ukraine’s”) Kerch Strait bridge is struck and damaged by the US (or “the West”, the “international community”, the “coalition”, NATO, ISIS, al qaeda, moderate, pro-democracy rebels, Ukrainian freedom-fighters, Crimean Tatars yearning to breathe free, etc.) that an important, famous bridge ON the US mainland will be similarly, proportionally damaged, hopefully (but, obviously, not necessarily) without the loss of human life?
Speaking of Crimea and the consequences of crossing Russia’s possible red lines, there is the following published today, April 22, 2021:
Moscow Says US, NATO Continue Provocations in Black Sea Region
https://sputniknews.com/world/202104221082701018-moscow-says-us-nato-continue-provocations-in-black-sea-region/
From the above:
“Earlier, the United States strategic drone Global Hawk carried out a reconnaissance mission near the borders of Crimea ahead of the Russian military drills on the peninsula.
The US unmanned aerial vehicle flew over the Black Sea near Crimea at the height of about 16 kilometers (9.9 miles).”
I usually read the TASS online english web site every day. Yesterday I read an article there that I am almost certain reported that the Global Hawk flight mentioned in the above Sputnik article flew directly over Crimea, not just along the Crimean coast, and to me this was a pretty important event – possibly crossing a Russian red-line . Maybe that article was incorrect, because today, when I wanted to reference it here in this comment, I can not find it on the TASS web site. Having read the article yesterday, I can’t help but think that the drone’s route might have in fact been over Crimea, but was for some reason later reported to be along Crimea’s coast. An obvious, hypothetical, political reason for possibly doing that would be that with the flight path along Crimea’s coast, no POSSIBLE Russian red line would have been crossed and, therefore, no proportional, tit-for-tat Russian response required. But, again, maybe the flight was in fact along Crimea’s coast and the TASS article was removed simply because it was incorrect. But if the latter were indeed the case, it would have been best for TASS to retain the original article and make a correction to it rather than disappear it, because doing the latter makes me wonder how many other articles have suffered or will suffer the same fate.
Bottom line on Russia’s red lines? Let me put it this way, if TASS reports tomorrow that yesterday (today) the brand new Kerch Strait bridge suddenly suffered an unexpected (un-coverupable) “structural failure” — a failure that experts say was ”probably” due to some “engineering error” or “climactic issue”– I’m not buying it.
Second, from Mr. Putin’s address. “The five nuclear countries bear special responsibility.”
“Five”?
I think you hopefully misunderstood the intent.
Zeroedge purposefully did the same yesterday when they misquoted Putin promissing a “simetrical” response.
The oficial word was “asimetrical”.
The promise is the opposite of what you mention. No more “proportional, tit-for-tat Russian response”.
Whomever croses the red lines, which are purposefully undefined, will “regret it like they never regret nothing before ”
No more mr nice guys. Shere kan and tabaquis better take care.

Putin also mentioned Mowgli and the Jungle Book. Watched the version from 1942, in techni color, such a good movie.

“Open” is very fine with me. Many thanks!
Addressing the questions.
First “take” is that rhetoric is an art. VVP uses rhetoric as a master. It is not taught in US schools and has not been taught much for about 100 years. Withal, VVP created “doubt”. US grifters have zero understanding of rhetoric…but they do know how to do propaganda, eg lie.
I am minded of “I Heard You Paint Houses: Frank “The Irishman” Sheeran & Closing the Case on Jimmy Hoffa”…
Wherein we hear “Talk to your friend, tell him what it is.” This is code for “knock it off or we may make the decision to kill you. This is last warning.”
(This is not to imply that VVP is a criminal, far from it, but Policy of States includes actions that are illegal for individuals.)
Second Take? Maybe later.
I summarise this briefly as:
“If you start it, I’ll finish it”
With a nod to the Kerch Bridge, which if destroyed would technically trap forces in Crimea… By withdrawing he can’t be blamed for starting anything – only they can start hostilities. In which case it is then all on…
Yes Saker I agree with many others here that you should continue these open threads. Thank you for your time.

Hi Saker ! Hope you’re well. These open threads are great !
They encourage people to read the comments again and again to see all the newest comments. Its great.
The speech by President Putin yesterday should go into history as “the red lines speech”, in my opinion. He mentions threats, and it seems that any false flag operations by any of the oligarchs in Ukraine, would be retaliated against. Btw. I have not heard at all lately about Kolomoiskiy, Achmetov, Vekselberg, Prohorov, Deripaska – they may have independent designs for Russia´s and Ukraine´s future.
Who knows what surprises the Russians have. One thing for sure, they haven’t wasted the training and weapon testing opportunities in Syria.

It would be epic to see a proper R2P operation with a real no-fly zone to protect the people of Donbas. Use the enemy’s weapons against them.
Putin’s track record is one of accuracy, so I don’t think he is just bluffing. We seem to be in a new phase of Russian-American relations. For about 25 years, Russia has tried to engage with the U.S. diplomatically to resolve the differences, but they have given up. The U.S. is “non-agreement capable” or worse, and the Russians feel, I think, that the only way their concerns will be addressed is with 100,000 troops on Ukraine’s border and the like.
As for the statement, it sounds like a threat of war. When Putin says “asymmetrical” does that mean the Russian response will be greater? The big question, of course, is whether this is a threat of nuclear war. Russia will be destroyed in such a war unless 1) They have a “star wars” system to destroy U.S. nukes (although this won’t stop fallout) or 2) They can somehow deter an all out war and just have a limited nuclear war.
For a conventional war, does Russia have conventional weapons that are as destructive as nukes, a conventional “super weapon”? Would Russia try to fight a war near its borders only, and then let the “indispensable nation” try to do something about it? I have a hard time seeing Russia occupying all of Europe and the U.S. Are biological weapons a possibility?
Does Russia have an economic “super weapon” such as wrecking the dollar or halting world oil supplies?
The Strait of Hormuz is a water bridge.
The astonishing thing is that if Russia was forced to erase the (11?) US carrier groups with Poseidon torpedoes, and level London, Washington, New York, and Tel Aviv, is that half the planet would be dancing in the streets, in jubilation, similar to the dancing on 9-11.
Such is the simmering hatred for the US/Anglo/Zionist alliance. There must be a fable in this. Aesop, maybe? Sun Tsu? Machievelli? Dante? Some wise body from the past has to have something to say to us dumb sh**s of today about this to us in the now. Past people are always smarter that we current a-holes are today, after all. Otherwise they’d be forgotten past people with no future.
How about this: A bear walks into a bar and says, “Hey, bartender. Give me a Red Line.” “A Red Line?” the bartender says. “What the hell’s a ‘Red Line’?” “You’ll know when you cross it.”

MOSCOW, April 22. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that he is willing to discuss bilateral relations with his Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky in Moscow at any time convenient for the Ukrainian leader. “If we are talking about developing the bilateral ties, then please, we will receive the Ukrainian president in Moscow at any time convenient for him,” Putin stressed during talks with Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko, commenting on Zelensky’s proposal to the Russian president to hold a meeting in Donbass.”
Callig his bluff?Any sign of life Merkel Macron re Minsk…Normandy.. Trilateral Group??
He is saying what everybody with a functioning brain knows: to not push too far because Russia is ready for war if there is no other option. He is speaking to western maniacs.
Nothing new.
Please stop the open threads, I am addicted and am spending too much time on them.
Putins speech was concise and clear.
When these threads started my opinion was that Russia should act quickly and swiftly to give NATO a bloody nose. However the measured approach by the Russian leadership is to be admired.
Kinetic responses are already in action in Syria, Libya, Yemen, Iraq etc. The best thing would be to put these fires out and not pour more fuel on it.
The Russian leadership has not been inactive in its response to the actions of the Empire.
The game is big, it is long, it is far reaching.
The strategy of Russia has been to build its strength inside a good defence and thrust out with ferocity when needed.
All her plans and progress would be wasted if the Empire pushes us all towards war to hide their lies.
On vacation, I have been reading James J Martin’s “An American Adventure in Bookburning: In the Style of 1918”.
The author quotes from Charles Montague’s 1922 book “Disenchatment”: “War hath no fury like a non-combatant.”
For those interested about the interesting times ahead, Martin’s book may provide much thought.
When you draw a lie in the sand, chiselers, cheats, and Israelis will find a way to cross the line in such a way that you have to move back. What Putin has done is to state that Russia is patient ony to a certain amoumt with respect to provocations, but the provocatuers will just have to guess what those limits are. This way Russia can, if it so chooses, advance its line in the sand depending on the circumstances.
In other words, Do. Not. Poke. The. Bear.
I think they had enough of zionazi stage play and next time they try something stupid (such as coup attempt in Belorusia), somebody is going to get hurt.
Keep going open threads, it makes site alive.
I love what Putin said – a perfect response not just for Russia vs MORDOR, but I also find it inspiring to guide my own way of reacting strategically during the time of COVID Democide which is happening as we speak throughout the modern day 5-Eyed MORDOR.
why need a formal war when decades of proxy cultuvation like isis can be easily plonked into any theatre required. they have all the qualities the zog require. plausible deniability, asymmetric tactics, anti islam reinforcing narratives and cheap to operate. makes A1 6 oclock headlines.
Maybe all this is about is that the Pentagon wants a trillion dollar budget, a 33% increase from the 3/4 trillion they now have. What happens to the Ukies is irrelevant, they’re expendable.
I think Putin had several players in mind with these statements. First, the US and the UK, who are the main Russophobes who have been pushing anti-Russian policies upon everyone.
Also, he definitely had Ukraine and Turkey in mind. Note the recent Russian air strike in Syria that took out about 200 jihadi head choppers. Turkey is supporting head choppers in Syria, Turkey is also supporting the Ukronazis, Russia just cancelled travel to Turkey due to ‘covid fears’ – this will really cause heavy damage to their tourist industry. This has nothing to do with Covid, it was all about Turkey’s activities with Ukraine, Syria, and Azerbaijan.
The others Putin had in mind, the hyenas, were the Poles, Baltic states, and even the Czechs with their recent idiocy. Polish fishing boats have been harassing the Russian pipe laying vessels working on Nord Stream 2 – I believe this was also a threat to them. Don’t be surprised that one of those fishing boats gets rammed if they try that nonsense again. Kaliningrad is not far away.
It was a warning to all of them, there will be no more tolerance. And it’s about time!
I think it’s directed at UK, US, and Poland. They are the instigators telling UA to make moves.
UA knows it doesn’t stand a chance if they were go it alone to “retake” the separatist republics.
What did President Putin’ mean?
His comments are crystal clear with a masterful use of rhetoric, metaphor and allegory. No further explanation needed.
Will the west get it?
That is the real question.
The Open Threads are great. They focus the discussion on a specific topic with lots of new faces.
As expected — Not a word about Putin’s speech etc in our press in Aussie.
As stated in a previous thread discussing what moves are next for Russia. I provided the suggestion that Russia should “give a sign of good faith” (this is the withdrawal of troops), and to give a warning that they will destroy NATO once and for all.
I guess I was spot on. Putin has done exactly that.
I wonder if events in Belarus could be a red line for Putin. Today he and Lukashenko met, with Lukashenko saying :
“We are actively moving forward in union programs. Remember, we started with the maps [integration roadmaps], very serious programs. We have probably already agreed 26 or 27 at the government level. A few are left, 2 or 3 serious programs of economic nature, including taxation, a well-known program which we have already made a decision on in Minsk,”
While yesterday, we had this happening:
VILNIUS (Reuters) – The U.S. ambassador to Belarus met exiled opposition leader Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya on Wednesday in a show of support on the eve of a planned meeting between President Alexander Lukashenko and his Russian sponsor Vladimir Putin in Moscow.
Putin obviously doesn’t need another Ukraine on his hands, but it appears that the interference in Belarus by the US continues, despite the recently foiled assassination attempt.
I salute Putins restraint. He is the adult in the room. Hold your card close to your chest Mr President. The Europeans will reward you for your restraint. They want that gas. Bid your time and make some profit. Russia is lucky to have such a cool headed leader.
I’m wondering if Putin backed down after the Navalny protests yesterday. This retreat is a big mistake in my opinion.
At a minimum Russia should establish a land bridge with Krim and take the rest of Donetsk and Lugansk oblasts.
President Putin consulted with Minster of Defense Shoigu and asks if the troops can be scaled back from the lines of contact without significantly reducing tactical capability. Shoigu runs the numbers and delivers the answer that Putin was looking for.
Putin is offering an olive branch to Zelensky knowing full well his military can roll over the eastern and southern borders of Ukraine with impunity.
Does Zelensky do the same? No, instead he calls up reserve boys to make himself look tough.
A Russian proverb that is most appropriate in this case is this: Дурна́я голова́ нога́м поко́я не даёт. Translation: The stupid head doesn’t leave feet in rest or in other words, no rest for the wicked.
I am more… well…
Could it be a honey pot? Retreat only to invite the attack?
These suckers are dead ducks!
be well be safe
Now why or rather what would make you believe Putin “backed down” he stated precisely where and what their red lines were, and he’s not seeking any windmills to joust with.
Putin’s a wise leader and he doesn’t run around seeking wars that will bleed them dry like we have done, their strength lies within their societies which includes the family unit which we have destroyed, in their faith in the church and who they are.
Meanwhile our society if one can call it that is bursting at the seams with riots happening almost nightly, and I’m sure that will be the summers’ entertainment as they fear to call out the military in fear that half will go over to the other side, and that’s the difference between two of the three big powers..
To understand Putin‘s historical phenomenon (and so , his messages) we have to understand
the difference between concept of Statesmen and Politician. Statesman is authentic and respected
Leader , Politician is Bureaucrat who do not lead , but just follows .
Before Vladimir Putin last European Statesman was Charles de Gaulle .
In America President is long time just Civil Servant and circle of Plutocrats ( euphemism for
the Gang of the The Richest is “Deep State” ) They make decisions, President proceeds .
If President has ambition to becoming a Leader he is removed as an obstacle .
Putin is addressing firstly to the people of Russia , and sending some laconic but important messages
to the Gang of Plutocrats that is Deep States . They will understand.

The open threads are very informative. Particularly in a fast moving crisis. But I hope they would not come at the expense of your weekly long read. If it had to be either/or I would choose your long reads. It’s your analysis in them that I value the most. Best wishes.
My mind keeps coming back to “asymmetrical”.
My first thought was Bring down the US economy. Attack the FED.
And then the next thought was if you bring down the world’s reserve currency then all nations, innocent nations who have not joined in on this farce also drink of this poison.
Russia and all of her allies would drink of this poison.
An effective asymmetrical attack would have to be pointed at the aggressors with minimal overflow and it would have to be proportionate.
I see the partial retreat as strategic on many different levels.
The conditions are too wet for an effective ground war.
Ground wars are hard enough without battling the conditions as well as the enemy.
The partial retreat was unexpected and so it will take the “committee” time to analyse this new turn of events.
The pressure cooker atmosphere has been reduced by degrees to allow the committee time and space to come to a sensible decision – one I’m ever hopeful for but NOT banking on.
If the committee believes the partial retreat was Russia blinking and come back with force chances are that enough time has elapsed so that conditions are more favorable.
The puppets and puppet masters have been put on notice.
I, for one, believe Putin.
The three American military bases in Ukraine? Plus NATO membership of Ukraine and Georgia.
I think Putin definitely came out on top of this confrontation with Joe Biden. What I wrote today:
“Ukraine seems to have lost confidence in NATO. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky asked to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin for talks in Donbass. In exchange, Putin has declared his “training exercise” over and ordered the Russian units massed at the border to withdraw. This is a huge embarrassment for both the Biden administration and NATO. Here’s my explanation for what happened…
Biden’s early actions suggest that this might have all started as a bluff. He declared a “national emergency” and slammed Russia with harsh sanctions under absurd pretenses. The mainstream media parroted obviously false liberal talking points that Russia “meddled” in the American presidential election. Incidentally, that’s a rich thing for Democrats to accuse Russia of.
Unfortunately for Western liberals, Putin called their bluff and NATO ended up on a bridge too far. To make this predicament even more embarrassing, it was a wobbly Jenga tower of their own making. Russia has demonstrated they’re willing to bite the bullet and suffer the pain of harsh sanctions. Interestingly, there is a lot of evidence that they’ll actually come out stronger from cutting off all dependency on the West.
That realization was probably a little obvious in hindsight, but by the time the Biden administration caught on it was already too late. Pulling back then would have caused them to lose face, and there is almost nothing on earth a liberal imperialist hates more than losing face. NATO leaders dragged our nations onward with a sanctions strategy that clearly wasn’t going to work.
Globalist politicians in the U.S.A. and our Western European allies are so full of imperial hubris they’re demanding that everyone else in NATO follow them lockstep. One of the most egregious examples of this is the Czechs’ expulsion of Russian diplomats. Predictably, Russia swiftly retaliated against the much weaker state. Irritating Russia enough to bring down economic punishment is going to cost the Czechs dearly, which shows how much pressure they were under. NATO must have made it clear “you’re either with us or against us.”

The Zion West likes to attack on holidays. The Orthodox Easter is May 2. So there is still time. Russia should be very watchful during the Orthodox Easter week.
“In exchange, Putin has declared his “training exercise” over and ordered the Russian units massed at the border to withdraw.”
Reliance on interpretations by opponents always has utility of varying assay.
Training exercises are not over, but the location of these exercises have been changed as part of a pre-arranged plan.
“the” is an absolute and hence “the Russian units massed at the border to withdraw.” is an interpretation/misrepresentation of
“some Russian units present at the Russian border with Ukraine were re-deployed elsewhere as planned.”
as is:

I think to get the feel of President Putin’s “State of the Federation” speech, it is necessary to read the whole thing, which the Saker had posted previously. The first third was a declaration that COVID 19 was contained, to give thanks for all the people who had made the containment possible, and to praise the social cohesion that had contributed to the national success. It read very much like Boris Johnson in the UK (they are both good wordsmiths when they want to be), and reminded me that in 1948, when the NHS was set up, many features of the Soviet system were copied. I don’t know if the key features of medical care being free at point of use, and enrolling the entire population, with family doctors or health centres the first point of call for the sick, survived Yeltsin, but the 1948 exchange agreement between the UK and the Soviet Union, then Russia, survives- it saved me a lot of medical insurance payments over the years. Centralised healthcare is very good at tackling plagues, and Putin referred to developed countries less successful than Russia in tackling COVID.
Much of the rest of Putin’s speech was about improvement in health, education and welfare of the whole population, various social security changes, improving the lot of poor single mothers, and addressing demographic challenges. It could have come from Clement Attlee, Labour Prime Minister 1945-1953 (including the reliance on the traditional family).
There was no bombast, but spending over an hour outlining the social and medical strengths of a Russia at ease with herself, could be taken as confidence that many of Russia’s enemies, given time, would collapse of their own internal contradictions (to use the Soviet phrase). I commend the graphs of the progress of the COVID 19 pandemic in Frankfurter Algemeine Zeitung, particularly the one showing total cases per 100,000 inhabitants as a function of time. The curves for France, Germany and Italy and Spain are accelerating, with the US and Sweden showing a linear increase, and a UK with the epidemic largely over. Italy and Spain have large illegal immigrant/slave populations to work their labour intensive agriculture, and France has a hostile North African population of unknown size, none of whom will be vaccinated. It is difficult to explain the evolution of more infectious mutants of the COVID 19 virus to a Germany which seems never to have fully accepted scientific biology – homeopathy is taught as a normal system of medicine, food has to be “bio” (organic), and numerous “Querdenker” (queer thinkers, without the sexual connotation) think COVID 19 is all a hoax. Accelerating COVID19, civil disorder (of which there has been a lot already), the Eurozone stimulus package held up by the German Verfassungsgericht (Supreme Court) which holds, quite unreasonably, that a constitution which prohibits direct money transfers from the German to foreign governments in fact prohibits direct money transfers from the German to foreign governments, all point to a breakdown of law and order across the continent making Ukrainian adventures impossible.
In short, the ancient Russian tactic of biding their time will serve Russia well, and Putin’s few well-chosen sentences about enemies of Russia biting off more than they can chew may well be pro forma
Germans unscientific?
The basis of chemistry, physics, philosophy, biology are all German created. The language of science from 1820 to 1945 was Germans – English simply stole German ideas or got it translated.
German medicine is holistic and not beholden to big oharma as in shopkeepers race of english and anglos. Even modern oharma is German invention.
“Germany..which seems never to have fully accepted scientific biology” means that a significant proportion of the population today relies on völkisch witch-doctoring (Hahnemann) or “biodynamic” agriculture (Rudolf Steiner), not that Germany has had no scientific biologists of significance: the problem is how Authority treated its scientific biologists. Biological pseudoscience was a foundation of the Third Reich, but re-appeared after reunification in the Nature mysticism of the “Green” movements. By contrast, Lysenkoism did not affect biology in the DDR (R. Hagemann, Trends in Genetics Vol 18 p320 (2002)), which as a socialist country was also unaffected by Goethean mysticism and Steiner’s Kakanian codswallop. The outrageous treatment of East German academic scientists, who were all sacked and replaced with ambitious and ruthless Wesr German carpetbaggers, meant that the whole of German biology made an accommodation with “green” pseudoscience. Since 2002, the German Grundgesetz (Basic Law) says that animals, like humans, have the right to be respected by the state and to have their dignity protected. However, “animal” (Tier) includes not only reptiles and amphibians but also cephalopods. To have the state protect the dignity of invertebrates such as squids is beyond insane
I was making a contemporary point immediately relevant to the subject of the thread: obviously, if Bundeswehr doctors treat abdominal wounds with the little sugar pills of homeopathy (not as daft as respecting cuttlefish), Russia will win every engagement! Perhaps Karel Čapek is the best answer to the rest of Ayr’s post:
Solche Erfolche erreichen nur deutsche Molche!
A idéia do “fio aberto” é genial!
Gostei!
Continue! :-)
Google translation,MOD:
The idea of the “open wire” is brilliant!
Liked it!
Continues! :-)
As for the retreat of “Shoigu”, the equipment was left behind, the troops returned home to rest (perhaps increasing the population a little more)! HaHaHaHa …
I would not doubt that, those equipment seen in satellite images are so and only inflatable models, the effective hardware is probably dispersed in the surroundings.
This thing is not over yet, let’s wait until the next week without the Moon (if it seems to me, from May 11th).
Hmmm, any new bridges been built lately ??
Oh yes………………!!
Great move re: Open Threads.
Many more viewpoints to mull.
Thanks Saker.
Sort of a modern day letter similar to the one from the Zaporozhian Cossacks to the Turkish Sultan! only with more diplomacy and restraint. Nevertheless it must to carry the same meaning.
I regularly read articles on this site and find them informative. I am a little bit concerned about use of these open threads more often then absolutely. We as a community, I believe, have a very similar view of the world events that are covered on this site. I also believe that many of the visitors have deep knowledge and very few tend to troll, still there is a danger of us becoming a mutual admiration society and move even further from news to world of opinions. Do let me know what you all feel about it. (my first post after many years).
