No. 17, “Polovtsian Dance with Chorus” [“Половецкая пляска с хором”]
- [b] Gliding Dance of the Maidens [Пляска девушек плавная]: Andantino, 4/4, A major
Дремлют горы в облаках;

Fly on the wings of the wind
To out motherland land our familial song ,
Where we sing thee freely ,
Where we were so freely with you .
Fly on the wings of the wind
To out motherland land our heart’s song ,
Where we sing thee freely ,
Where we were so freely with you .
There, under the heat of the sky
Air is filled with bliss
There, under the heat of the sky
Mountains doze in the clouds ;
So bright the sun is shining ,
Familial mountains bask in light ,
In the valleys lush roses bloom ,
And the nightingales singing in the green forests.
There, under the heat of the sky
Air is filled with bliss,
Sea is whispering to the
Mountains dozing in the clouds.
Fly on the wings of the wind
To out motherland land our familial song ,
Where we sing thee freely ,
Where we were so freely with you .
There, under the heat of the sky
Mountains doze in the clouds ;
So bright the sun is shining ,
Familial mountains bask in light ,
In the valleys lush roses bloom ,
And the nightingales singing in the green forests.
Insights into what it must feel like to be Russian. Pure magic.
Looks wonderful.
Russia the Beautiful. Russia the Bountiful. Russia the Battleship.
The Empire would turn you into a Prostitute.
Love of Truth will keep you Inviolate.
Both the music (voices) and the videos sent a chill up my spine.
In my retirement, I have idly thought of immigrating to Russia as perhaps the last enclave of peaceful evolutionary possibilities (since daily reading The Saker and Club Orlov). This video moved me from idle to wishful.
Thank you for sharing.

I found this imagery breathtaking and clearly the symbolism of orthodoxy was prevalent. I am a Sunni Muslim and have admiration for the role Russia is trying to play in brokering reconciliation in a broken world. I wonder if anyone can provide a translation of the words spoken in the background music which I rather liked.
What a beautiful clip… I would be interested in offering & distributing Russian music on LP and CD (Rock, Jazz, Folk and other genres), but I still haven’t found a supplier.
I already distribute the releases of several Yugoslavian, Hungarian, Czechoslovakian, Polish and East German record and CD companies inside of Europe and overseas.
Frankly, I had to turn the thing off after a few moments — because I know what the music is supposed to sound like (one my favorite pieces as a kid) , without that electronic smacking sound which frazzled my nerves. Sounded like a Twinky tastes…

Alexander Borodin Prince Igor Polovtsian Dances Bolshoi Theatre
What was that video from Watson abut the death of culture?
Ah,common cultural ground! In the realm of music! Who would have thought it possible?
Synchronicity makes it possible.
Nice photography, much diminished musical soundtrack. I didn’t even recognize the piece……
My (Russian) wife agrees. Other people, know the classical version, as composed. It IS much, much better the way Borodin intended it.
I like this even better — and a bit longer selection. The opening singer has, I think, one of the best voices I’ve heard.

The Imperial Russian Ballet – Polovtsian Dances (Prince Igor) Sofia, Bulgaria
The oldest Slavic festival before Easter in Russia and all the Rus states is called Maslenitsa. One of the fun events they have there is group community fist-fighting. I’m not being sarcastic here. It looks like they have a lot of good fun there. With no-one getting really hurt:
