Attempts to carry out a coup in Venezuela have been regularly made since the time of Hugo Chávez. The first one in 2002, when the predecessor of Maduro was opposed by a considerable part of army and was arrested for two days by putschists, was the most productive one.
Back then the people of Venezuela took to the streets in support of Chavez. Also, many leaders of the countries of Latin America, including the late Fidel Castro, who enjoyed absolute authority on the continent, also voiced his support. Two days later the putschists released the president and surrendered. Since then the army has been a reliable stronghold of Chavists. And now too the Generals have declared their full support for Maduro.
Apparently, this time the US isn’t relying on internal opposition. Experts already said that the mutiny initiated by Washington is original and unprecedented, because the US simply recognised the the speaker of parliament Juan Guaido, who appointed himself as the interim president, as the acting head of state. However, originality and unprecedentedness in this case lies only in the speed of recognition and the degree of openness of the American interference.
Trump’s Twitter declared Guaido’s recognition a few minutes (about half an hour) after his self-declaration. At the same time, Washington neglected all existing norms of international law. But this is exactly the same scheme that was used in Libya against Gaddafi and in Syria against Assad.
This scheme is rather reliable. As practice shows, without the external support of Russia, the resistance of the national government breaks sooner or later. In Libya eight months passed between the first protests (on February 15th 2011) up to the murder of Gaddafi (on October 20th 2011). Assad in Syria stood on the verge of a catastrophe in the fourth year of the civil war.
In both cases the striking power of the mutiny consisted of foreign mercenaries supported by the aircraft of the West, which closed the sky to the national Air Force, and then giving direct support to rebels, striking blows to the national Armed Forces. The internal opposition only legitimated the invasion, having given the intervention of gangs of pro-West mercenaries the status of an internal resistance.
In both cases there was one more factor – less noticeable but probably most important. The financing of the mutiny and intervention happened at the expense of the part of the assets of the target state that was in western jurisdiction.
The US has already utilised all three components against Maduro. An alternative government that is recognised by Washington as lawful already exists in the person of Juan Guaido. The US tries to give him control over the assets of Venezuela that are in western jurisdiction, and not without success either. The Bank of England refused to return $1.2 billion in gold ingots to Maduro’s government.
The total cost of Venezuela assets abroad is $8 billion. It is possible to assume that if not all of them, then at least a considerable part of them is controlled by the West. At it is precisely with this money that the mutiny will be financed.
So the optimistic assessment of domestic experts is that it is enough to capture the Colombian Embassy in Caracas where the alternative president Juan Guaido hides himself and also to expel American diplomats (who already refused to leave since Washington doesn’t recognise Maduro, who declared a severance of diplomatic relations with the US, as the lawful president) from the country and that everything will settle down. On the contrary, violent acts against foreign diplomatic missions can only legitimate intervention.
While the US and their allies control billions of dollars of the state assets of Venezuela, they can employ “interim” presidents one after the other. The main thing was already done by Juan Guaido — he declared the existence of an alternative center of power. Now it is possible to even kill or arrest Guaido – the alternative government already leads an independent life. Now there can even be no Venezuelan politicians [in the phoney “government” – ed] at all. Statements on his behalf will be made by any blogger from London employed by the CIA.
With the Venezuelan billions requisitioned by the West, the West can maintain many-thousands gangs of mercenaries for years. The violation of the exterritoriality of diplomatic missions will be quite a sufficient pretext for the deployment of an air operation in support of rebels.
Only force sufficient enough to paralyse western efforts can stop a creeping coup in Venezuela. At the same time, it is necessary to understand that the main weight of the fight for their country in any case will fall on the national Armed Forces.
Russia and China can theoretically give military aid to Venezuela, but their geographical position practically excludes carrying out an operation similar to the Syrian one. The communications of any group that Beijing or Moscow will try to deploy in Venezuela will find themselves under the control of the American fleet and it will be rather easy for Washington to paralyse their activity, having declared a naval and air blockade of the territories under the control of Maduro’s government.
Of course, it is possible to breakthrough such a blockade, but it will be a situation that is as critical as the Caribbean Crisis. Superpowers can find themselves on the verge of a direct military clash.
Anyway, the difficulties of logistics assume limited purely military support for Maduro by his foreign allies, while the US, being based on the territory to a hostile-towards-Venezuela Colombia have the opportunity to deploy unlimited forces of mercenaries. They can try to organise an invasion in the favour of Juan Guaido and the regular armed forces of the adjacent Latin American states.
So the fate of the government of Maduro will depend: firstly, on the ability of the national Armed Forces to make a military operation against Venezuela a pleasure that is too expensive; secondly, on the ability of Russia and China to find an indirect way of responding to the West’s aggression, making it not just resource-intensive (in the mean time the US is going to fight against Maduro with Maduro’s money), but causing damage to the financially economic interests of the West – in the here and now, long before the billions stolen from the people of Venezuela will run out.
This is a nontrivial task. Moreover, it is necessary to solve the problem in real time, while the US plans its actions in advance. In the geopolitical sphere an answer will be given to Washington anyway. But whether or not Maduro’s government will survive long enough to see it is a question that so far has no answer. Assad stood and lasted long time to receive help. Gaddafi – No.
Thank you for this article, the author makes a convincing case.
This mofo is the usual masonic shill (Benjamin Franklin Lodge from NY), which is the same lodge of Sorosm, and replete with pedophiles. The Freemasonry is still hellbent on the demolition of Spain, here represented by the bananized goypublics in Latinoamérica. In this region that they call “Venezuela”, the script is blatant:
a. To literally steal the petroleum, disguised as a “contract”, where the ziocompany gets 99% of the profit and the host state only gets 1% (Chavez had forced the international standard of 74% for the zios and 26% for “Venezuela”. Enough reason to become a target by the kosher mafia)
b. To cause as much misery as possible, so the archontic entities that they serve can feed on all the suffering and pain that a generalized poverty causes (78% of people under the poverty line while literally floating on an ocean of petroleum!)
c. All the relevant actors in “Venezuela” belong to the same categories: marrano (Capriles Radonsky, Maduro), crypto (Corina), Freemason (Chávez, Guaidó). See? Always the same show run by the Khazarians.

No telling how much China steals? I am surprised that Colombia refused to join the carnage.
The greed of this nation or rather this Zio- Gov is unbelievable!
And look who Trump put in charge of all of this dirty work. Eliot Abrams. This guy really appears like the dark side of the Force. He has a history of being one of Reagan’s pre-eminent imperialist killers in the Americas. And he acts like he was built for this job. If you don’t know anything about him it is highly worth looking up his history. Trump wants the empire’s best killers on this job. Eliot Abrams, the face of the evil empire at work.
Ruslan great article.Just maybe the Cubans and to a lesser degree Evos people Bolivia will send soldiers if Maduro ask for help. Then too there already may have Russians and Chinese-personnel in Venezuela.Maduro’s air force is much better than Assad-both in modern aircraft and weaponry. The military just need to stay loyal to President Maduro-and the people and fight the imperialist just as Hezbollah fought and defeated Israel.Peace
Russia can seize Ukraine, China Taiwan if the US invades Venezuela. If the EU and U.K. join the US, then Russia can use its new military weapons to obliterate them. That inevitably means nuclear war and the end of the planet. This is stupid, stupid, stupid; criminal, criminal, criminal. These will not be war games, but the real thing. The short cut is to waste Trump, Pompeo, and Bolton.
I object to the prescript ed “short-cut”.
Justice is not built on injustice.
But Trials are.
(you may consider that as bad poetry, and deliberately ambiguous, as the Empire itself makes a mockery of Trials, Bush 43 in particular vindicated Goering’s claims at Nuremberg…nazi solidarity one supposes…)
If Venezuela realizes as a nation that their backs are to the sea, that they must fight a long terrible war, then they may, and see the Imperium retreat…
.It seems to me that “K.G.Bear” Ivan has better intel than, say Voltaire.net. Yes, they see that same stuff, but Ivan must see it first, generally, and make plans several steps out, as in chess.
In view of this probable fact, Ivan did take action preventative…those TU160 were a “don’t even think about it” message… Now this will become a failed bluff unless Maduro and his governments acts.
Because of the structures of the Empire, mitigation and compromise is never a realistic option. Rather it is a step up toward the gallows.
I think Maduro will find his courage, and fight. Why? Otherwise he’s dead man walking…
@ Bill Goldman > About “short cuts” > Marx and many others have recognized that change has prerequisite condition, the prevailing institutional structure must be liquidated. Otherwise “revolution” simply replaces one schmuck with another schmuck…
Venezuela, she must either fight in concert with major allies, Ivan and Chin, or be liquidated. There is no short cut.
Speaking of TU160, a couple of them flew over the Arctic on Jan. 26th.

I would instead favor two things: that Iran who otherwise would be a losing party, allow Russia and China assemble a JOINT military base right in the mouth of persian Gulf. An allowance or permission for just 15 or 20 years lease, with no prorrogation clause.
And that both countries dump 400 billion in Dollar treasury bonds and make a deal with Maduro to mine locally and buy most of venezuelan gold for 10 years.
Would it be funny?
The Pentagon would have just one option in this case: declare war on China & Russia.
Perfect opportunity for Iran to target the Ras Tanura oilfields of Saudi Arabia, either subsequent to a false flag on an Iranian tanker, or in revenge for the recent MEK attack. Throw in the Yenbo refinery and enjoy $1000 oil.
Give Bolton something else to think about.
The author’s suggested solution to this invasion is really interesting. That Russia, China and their allies have both the strength, and the inclination, to financially and economically degrade the capitalist empire in solidarity with Venezuela. Is that really objectively the case? However I wonder if that will actually be necessary as it appears the empire is decreasingly in need of any deliberate outside help falling into its financial abyss.
Putin knows just as well, that the Western Capitalist empire would be just as quick to replace him with the neoliberal fascist Alexie Navalny, if they only they could!
In fact, Navalni supported the coup in Twitter

Use of sanctions and the jump on UBS by the US regime convinced me back then that “international norms” in the financial world are just words. The following is further proof of that,
“The US has already utilized all three components against Maduro. An alternative government that is recognized by Washington as lawful already exists in the person of Juan Guaido. The US tries to give him control over the assets of Venezuela that are in western jurisdiction, and not without success either. The Bank of England refused to return $1.2 billion in gold ingots to Maduro’s government.

What’s yours can be taken away at a blink of an eye. Gold, oil, markets …
“In autumn 1965, Norman Reddaway, a lean and erudite rising star of the Foreign Office, was briefed for a special mission. The British Ambassador to Indonesia, Sir Andrew Gilchrist, had just visited London for discussions with the head of the Foreign Office, Joe Garner. Covert operations to undermine Sukarno, the troublesome and independently minded President of Indonesia, were not going well. Garner was persuaded to send Reddaway, the FO’s propaganda expert, to Indonesia. His task: to take on anti-Sukarno propaganda operations run by the Foreign Office and M16. Garner gave Reddaway pounds 100,000 in cash “to do anything I could do to get rid of Sukarno”, he says.
Reddaway thus joined the loose amalgam of groups from the Foreign Office, M16, the State Department and the CIA in the Far East, all striving to depose Sukarno in diffuse and devious ways. For the next six months he and his colleagues chipped away at Sukarno’s regime, undermining his reputation and assisting his enemies in the army. By March 1966 Sukarno’s power base was in tatters and he was forced to hand over his presidential authority to General Suharto, the head of the army, who was already running a campaign of mass murder against alleged communists.
According to Reddaway, the overthrow of Sukarno was one of the Foreign Office’s “most successful” coups, which they have kept a secret until now.”
https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/how-we-destroyed-sukarno-1188448.html
No doubt Reddaway was proud of his role in the genocide of one to two million human beings in Indonesia. Not as grand an Imperial achievement as the ten million that Churchill murdered in the Great Bengal Famine of the 1940s, but a true example of ‘Western Moral Values’ at their finest.

“The Devil’s Chessboard: Allen Dulles, the CIA, and the Rise of America’s Secret Government Paperback – September 6, 2016
by David Talbot (Author)”
Yes! I second your recommendation of “The Devil’s Chessboard”. Fascinating reading. For others who might be interested, it starts with the Dulles brothers involvement with Nazi Germany from New York prior to WW2, his use of Catholic monasteries to help Nazi’s escape toward the end of WW2, his creation of the OSS, the forerunnier of the CIA, using Nazi’s, his creation of the CIA, and his continued control of the CIA after he retired. A true charming yet deadly psychopath working for the elite. Though officially retired, he was present and active at all of the Warren Commission meetings controlling the investigation of the JFK assassination. Some of the witness interviewed said that Allen Dulles was so intimidating, they feared telling the truth of what they witnessed. 650 pages, including 35 pages of notes in fine print. Allen Dulles started the Russophobia we still experience in the U.S. today.
I wonder perhaps if it isn’t time to stir up issues in the Mid-East where the western powers aren’t doing so well.perhaps in the bleeding hole called Afghanistan or Iraq or Syria,Libya and other places, and of course London or the U.S. is the very worst places to keep your gold…
Thanks for your insights. If Venezuela has domestic gold deposits, perhaps they could interest Russia or China to help them verify the extent and quality of those deposits. This gold in the ground would ultimately be more useful than any gold bullion stolen and stored in NY or London, where it has already been borrowed against how many times. Here is a lousy part of the whole game regarding stored gold: Number 1: possession is nine tenths of the law and #2: it’s “yours” only if you go along with any number of associated financial / political frauds.
Russia should make the most of Brazil’s membership in good standing of BRICS. If Brazil can be persuaded to maintain, at worst, a friendly neutrality towards Venezuela, the main danger can be restricted to the West and South-West.
Ideally, Russia, China and other nations should club together both diplomatically and practically. With Brazil’s cooperation, they could channel supplies and other forms of assistance to Venezuela – although the territory looks unpleasantly like that of the movie “Predator”.
My dear friend, Bolsonaro is just a puppet.
His vice is a freemason.
He simply cant do that. He is not the most powerful person in his government.
The most powerful person is Guedes, the economy minister. He is the boss!
Brazil is out.
This government do not control Brazillian Army. They do know who they are.
“This government do not control Brazillian Army” What do you mean exactly ? You mean that the Army is not going to touch Venezuela even if Bolsonaro gives them the order to do it OR that the Army is going to ” touch “Venezuela even if Bolsonaro tell them NOT to do it ?
The latin american country however has one big, priceless advantage.
She knows the script of the whole tragedy theater… and can prepare for it in advance.
Militarily and non militarily.
One of the preparations is exactly making public daily stories on what happened in Lybia and syria to the chavista majorities in the country.
Good analysis of Rostislav Ishchenko.
Somehow this painful theatre reminds me of Russia in 1993: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1993_Russian_constitutional_crisis
At a certain moment Russia had two presidents and two ministers of defense, security, and interior. It ended with shooting tanks and militaries storming the parliament.
This may be a more realistic outcome, than Maduro stating that he only recognizes Nancy Pelosi as the USA president – though she might hope so.
I wonder whether other Latin American countries, hearing the sweet talking into ‘interference’ in a Vietnam-style fine jungle, will realize that they will be… next.
Acquiring S-400’s and Khinzals might be the next big thing in international trade…
Cheers, Rob
Or,… The foreign held assets of Venezuela can keep the federal government open for about three weeks… O.o
Interesting article. Washington will certainly apply a policy of internal subversion and financial attrition against Venezuela, hoping to turn the military against Maduro and provoke massive civilian demonstrations against him. Well, theoretically anything is possible. However, Washington has one huge problem. Venezuela has a modern history which is similar to that of Russia. In Russia people cannot forget the Yeltsin years, when the country was plundered of 100 billion dollars a year by foreign banks and corporations. In Venezuela people cannot forget the pre-Chavez years, when the country was plundered of it’s oil and where poverty and illiteracy existed. Nobody wants a return to that.
Washington has succeeded in applying Soros style methods in Venezuela, bringing demonstrators from all over the country to a specific point and creating the illusion of a mass movement against Maduro, hoping this minority will tip the balance. At the moment it will not, as the majority are behind Maduro. It now remains to be seen how long Maduro can hold out, the financial situation being the chief problem.
Finally, what about the International Crimial Court in the Hague ? How has it responded to this situation ? Has it brought any charges against US officials for flagrantly breaking international law, interfearing in a sovereign country and openly demanding the removal of a foreign head of state ? No ? Ah yes, the ICC has been created to bully small, defenceless countries, it being nothing more than an imperial arm of the globalists.
It is incorrect of the US administration to portray Maduro as dangerous because he is described as a left wing leader. If ideological compatibility was the only criterion for judging someone suitable Washington would treat President Ngunyen Phu Trong of Vietnam or YPG commander General Sipan Hemo in exactly the same vein.
This struggle is about power, manifested as interest, which has been present in every conflict of the past – no exception. It is the underlying motivation for war. Other cultural factors might change, but not power. Interest cuts across all apparently unifying principles: family, kin, nation, religion, ideology, politics – everything. We unite with the enemies of our principles, because that is what serves our interest. It is power, not any of the above concepts, that is the cause of war.
Venezuela is just one more geopolitical flashpoint that could trigger to bring Armageddon. Though geography would suggest the outbreak will more likely come in theatres such as Europe, the Middle East or Asia.
https://www.ghostsofhistory.wordpress.com/
Excellent article thanks all around. One must assume that the deep Deep State technicians have learned from their mistakes in Libya and Syria and that they are emboldened knowing that they are on their own “stomping grounds”.
Everyone in Latin America who understands the true horror of the situation smells fresh blood of a quick kill soon. Colombia will be used to do the dirty work with the drug cartels paid to step back until it’s over.
Watch for snipers in the cities and targeted assassinations coming soon. One can hope that Maduro will not allow himself to be sodomized in the public square. The army may be the last remaining wild card and its comportment May surprise all computer run analysts.
A very well reasoned article.
It seems that there is little that can be done to stop what is happening. It is up to the people of Venezuela and they, unfortunately, will have to pay a terrible price if they resist.
I wonder if the people in the West who are responsible for this ever stop to consider that it could have been them, but for an accident of birth.
One more thing.
China will eventually have to step in this PLANET.
Venezuela is the best possible location to a Chinese naval base!
That country alone can supply China without much effort and this makes Venezuela a too big asset to be lost.
Step in baby
the US is going to fight against Maduro with Maduro’s money
Very good point.
I would suggest giving submarines to Venezuela. How many submarines of what kinds would be needed to deter the Evil Empire?
One project 995…but really, submarines require years of crew training… You’re joking. Ru is not insane or stupid.
However, Imperial Lusts have in the past been muted by Russian Fleet…in New York Harbor and San Francisco Bay.
Surface one Borei-class submarine off Nantucket…with a message…
Or launch one missile in the Catalina Channel, as China did…
Imperial Seat might be in City of London, does Betty know?
The affair Maduro is mostly a trap to unseat Trumpie the Clown. Maduro is secondary target.
Is known as “Mousetrapping”…in this case Imperium has made retreat impossible, surrender equals death, ergo there will be a fight. Trump loses…Pence wins.
but really, submarines require years of crew training
For full competence, the training would take years, true. But for simple deterrence, full competence would not be needed.
Ru is not insane or stupid.
I wasn’t suggesting that the submarines would be from Russia. China’s Bohai shipyard at Huludao can build four submarines simultaneously.
The question is, how many subs would Venezuela need for deterrence?
One…one magic submarine. Are you trying to be silly and to introduce silly ideas?
The Imperium has cast the die, war is a sure thing unless V surrenders to liquidation.
There are no magic ships.
If TU160’s (which are real, not imaginary submarines with incompetent crew) did not deter…and they did not.
Then>
War itself is the goal, and thus Trump becomes Pharmacos, maybe V fights, if so maybe Ru and Chin will help. That was obviously the message of the TU160 visit. Empire noticed, wants war, and does not care about cost…Ivan and Chin wait to see if Maduro is man or mouse, but the goal remains, Make war, lose Trump.
Citgo refineries in Texas will not be getting oil from V, this is directed at gas prices and to create layoffs, that’s Trump’s base…and enriches the fatkats…
Do some reading, Friend. If you knew more you would keep to reality.
Does China want to fight for Venezuela and accelerate the process of trade war turning into military conflict with US?
Or would it prefer to let things lie, avoid direct conflict with US in trade or worse, and simply grow it’s way from being the slightly larger economy to much the larger economic and military force?
The later I would have thought
I think you are right.
The Chinese know that the West if self-destructing. The Chinese are playing the long game. They are letting the West bankrupt itself on senseless wars and international intrigues, while China is growing infrastructure and technology.
The Pompeo’s and the Bolton’s are the best thing that could ever happen to China.
So much for me to post? Never again!
Two years ago, a US military magazine analyzed Venezuela’s ability to fight off a US military attack. They concluded that the risk to the US war profiteers was too much, and predicted that the US would use starvation and bribes instead.
“Should Venezuelan SAMs or fighters down American F-22 fighters or B-2 bombers it would be a disaster for the image of the American military and for the prestige of the country’s arms industry……. Ultimately the risks to the United States’ global power will likely prove far too great to risk testing Venezuela’s military – and the United States will need to rely on covert means, support for opposition movements and economic sanctions should it seek to depose the Venezuelan government. Against the Venezuelan state, whose intelligence services are far from world leading and whose economy has proven fragile, military strikes to confront its advanced air defence forces appear to be the most difficult and by far the most risky means of bringing about regime change. So long as the country’s air force and air defence capabilities remain in service therefore, U.S. military action against the country remains unlikely.”
We can see that starvation for the many and bribes for the few are exactly the road the US has taken. However, Venezuela has turned to using the yuan for oil deals and, on Jan. 9th, became president of OPEC. Things have therefore changed. However, Colombia has stated that they will not allow the US to use Colombian bases to attack Venezuela, which is a setback for the US. They may stick to death squads and sabotage, along with the continuing theft of resources.

Dmitry Orlov breaks down why America wants to destroy Venezuela:
“Why must Venezuela be destroyed?”
http://cluborlov.blogspot.com/2019/01/why-must-venezuela-be-destroyed.html#more
The gist is that America’s Ponzi scheme economy in general is ripe to implode, particularly with the looming crash of its Shale Oil scam.
Hence, the Americans have targeted Venezuela in order to steal its oil and prop up the house of cards called the US economy and financial system.
“A rather large oil shortage is coming, and it will rather specifically affect the US, which burns 20% of the world’s oil (with just 5% of the world’s population). Once fracking crashes, the US will go from having to import 2.5 million barrels per day to importing at least 10—and that oil won’t exist. Previously, the US was able to solve this problem by blowing up countries and stealing their oil: the destruction of Iraq and Libya made American oil companies whole for a while and kept the financial house of cards from collapsing. But the effort to blow up Syria has failed, and the attempt to blow up Venezuela is likely to fail too because, keep in mind, Venezuela has between 7 and 9 million Chavistas imbued with the Bolivarian revolutionary spirit, a large and well-armed military and is generally a very tough neighborhood.
Previously, the US resorted to various dirty tricks to legitimize its aggression against oil-rich countries and its subsequent theft of their natural resources. There was that vial of highly toxic talcum powder Colin Powell shook at the UN to get it to vote in favor of destroying Iraq and stealing its oil. There was the made-up story of humanitarian atrocities in Libya to get the votes for a no-fly zone there (which turned out to be a bombing campaign followed by a government overthrow). But with Venezuela there isn’t any such fig leaf. All we have is open threats of naked aggression and blatant lies which nobody believes, delivered incompetently by clowns, stooges and old fogies.”
America is a vampire nation that cannot live without sinking its fangs into other countries in order sustain its parasitic “way of life.”
But the oh-so-precious American Way of Life is rapidly imploding–and not a day too soon.

I am an American who lives in Costa Rica , too. 20 years outside of the interfering US.
Seems sad how fast the definition of “ democracy” changes… self determination is key…
neither the US, the UN, Israel or the any other entity has the right to interfere.
Voters decide. The reality of democracy is that it requires we leave each democracy to work
out it’s own problems. ANY outside interference nullifies the whole idea of democracy.
Marc Rich did a billion dollar scam on Chavez’s government 20 years ago. The US opened their
arms to the Venezuelan oil families from the PDVDA with that billion dollars… then Rich was
pardoned by Clinton BECAUSE he was a helper to the Mossad.
Israel played a role in the scam perpetrated on Chavez and the US has been rabble rousing against
Venezuela ever since.
Trump is a puppet to the Mossad, too.
Chavez even said that Israel was funding the opposition. Now we know he was right…
