He’s a charismatic leader, but has a severe fatalism that worries.
Maybe a warrior, especially a patriotic warrior, simply has to be fatalistic.
But i think symbolism is very important and the top leadership should be highly protected.
Givi, Motorola, Mozgovoi and Zakharchenko represent the concept of Novorossiya and losing any one of the them would be a huge victory and psychological win for Kiev.

Pray for the safety of these great freedom fighters.

    • Katherine on March 20, 2015  ·  at 10:10 pm EST/EDT

Really worries me that he doesn’t see the need for protection.
He has responsibility now. To keep himself safe and not make of himself and easy target.
The modesty etc. is great. But not realistic, IMHO.
His loss would be a huge setback.
He might actually be safer in the middle of a battle than driving around the backroads of Novorossiya by himself . . .

I hope his associates impress on him the need to avoid such unnec. risks.

You are wrong. He is right. He is a true leader. Much respect. The men underneath him will understand and will be well prepared to take his place. Abbas al-Musawi was “irreplaceable” to Hezbollah. Nasrallah is 10 times the leader he ever was. A wise man once said “Our graveyards are full of indispensable people”.

        • Anonymous on March 22, 2015  ·  at 6:45 pm EST/EDT

Hey, I didn’t say “indispensable” or even go there.
Glad you feel so confident that losing Givi wouldn’t matter.
My impression from videos and comments etc. here, plus the fact that he was awarded a major military honor of some kind for his contribution to the defense of Novorossiya, suggests that others might agree with me!

He’s a brave man. Fights for a good cause. Lays his life on the line. He’s an inspiration for me. I hate war but sometimes it’s necessary to fight fire with fire. I hope they apprehend the assassins. Looks like this is a battle to the death. Comrades in arms indeed.

  3. teranam13 on March 20, 2015  ·  at 2:41 pm EST/EDT

Givi: I love this man… He is however marked by fate and evidently he knows it.
Well, my dear friend, I admire and respect you for fighting the good fight, being true to your principles, speaking the truth to power and by being incorruptible.

Apparently, the attackers shit their pants when they saw Givi shooting at them :) Any follow up?

The video linked to the above, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2OPhCdZaQE , shows how the bullets penetrated Givi’s horizontally from right to left, exactly at the level where his body would have been hadn’t he on time jumped out of the car. His quick thinking saved his life.

He says in the video he is used to being shot at. I guess that translates to, he starts ducking hen he hears a trigger polled half a mile away.

He also says he doesn’t believe in having body guards. If he’d had them, they could have been killed or badly injured.

Please God grant these good men a long life.

  7. mikhas on March 20, 2015  ·  at 3:37 pm EST/EDT

A real living hero of our time!

The ukie trash keeps inventing artificial fairy tales so ridiculously over-inflated, they themselves dont believe in it. The one about the “cyber” heroes at the airport must have been humiliating once the truth came out. But what can they do?

Everything about the ukie trash is invented and artificial, just like the Croats and “Bosniaks”. once a traitor always a traitor, When the next empire arrives you repeat the treason and go backstabbing and inventing lies as you go along. Freaks.

    • Kat Kan on March 20, 2015  ·  at 3:46 pm EST/EDT

Who says anyone has to be loyal to an empire that just arrived? perhaps they are being loyal to themselves.

And please be sure to differentiate between the actual people and their “leaders”. You can see in the Ukraine situation exactly how brainwashing, lying and terrorising go together to silence the real people. Don’t demonise anyone, please.

  8. Anon on March 20, 2015  ·  at 3:46 pm EST/EDT

I just love that he had the presence of mind to roll out of his moving car, draw his pistol and return fire. It’s hard to believe that before the war, he worked in a factory making rope.

    • Kat Kan on March 20, 2015  ·  at 4:01 pm EST/EDT

It is sad that people with these qualities, these leadership skills, can find only manual labour.

A few weeks ago a tank commander died, heroically. There was an interview with him a few week earlier. He’d been in tanks in the Soviet army. Getting into a tank, in Donbass, was like “being home” he said. But for 20 years he could not find a proper job — he listed at least 8 jobs he’d worked at since leaving the army, all different things, whatever he could get. No mention of a family.

They need to build a society where people have security for a decent life.

      • Anonymous on March 20, 2015  ·  at 5:42 pm EST/EDT

        Who are “they”?

        We – everywhere…

& stop the aspirations of the mini oligarchs with inherited boats up their driveways.

        A brotherhood of man.

        • Ann on March 21, 2015  ·  at 12:59 am EST/EDT

Get to work then, anon…you, with your smart answers.

I agree with Kat Kan, like the real people in Ukraine, we real people are almost powerless in the world’s situation today.

          • Anonymous on March 21, 2015  ·  at 11:05 am EST/EDT

Your powerlessness does not mean your aspiration to be a mini oligarch is to be cherished. What exactly do you agree with Kat Kan about (I found your response meaningless).

“Get to work then” – I do work. What do you mean? change my job?

            • Ann on March 22, 2015  ·  at 4:30 am EST/EDT

sorry, but its not us that are the evil ones. I really believe its ‘us’ and ‘them’.

What power do we have ? Our elections are rigged. Perhaps if I became a poitician…but how else ?

And personally I don’t hate people in SUV’s who have boats in their driveways. Divide and conquer.

              • Anonymous on March 22, 2015  ·  at 12:17 pm EST/EDT

It’s about what you consider to be right and wrong.

If you proclaim powerlessness while simultaneously thinking boats and SUV’s are fine while 50,000 starve per day I think you are a part of the problem.

A major thesis of this site is that oligarchy is, perhaps, the single biggest problem that mankind faces. A societal structure which, ultimately, enables that oligarchy (via a mini oligarchical aspiration factory) is the root problem.

Apologies “divide and conquer” – I don’t know what you mean?

              • Anonymous on March 22, 2015  ·  at 12:55 pm EST/EDT

oops I forgot to insert the link as backyp – 50,000 does seem exaggerated. It seems more like 35,000/day http://www.starvation.net/

Even if you do feel powerless why could you not take matters into your own hands and give any earnings over $100K/year to charity and manage your affairs so that an absolute maximum of $1M is provided in inheritance?

I now assume you meant “they” have divided and therefore conquered us – understood.

                Not all.

Not while we still have eyes to see and minds to think.

        Ann,

Your comments are childish, to say the least.

  13. Miroslav on March 20, 2015  ·  at 4:50 pm EST/EDT

Protection of commanders is naturally up to their superiors. This protection is not only about their safety but also about informations which they possess. Could you imagine Givi abducted and tortured by SBU/CIA?
To this particular incident: It’s beyond my imagination why was elite unit Somali used for capturing of local gangsters in Makeevka. Good enough for recruits.

  14. Anonymous on March 20, 2015  ·  at 5:31 pm EST/EDT

While not having body guards and being on the front lines is courageous, Givi has to understand that he is both symbolically and militarily important to the Resistance. He definitely needs more protection, not just for his own benefit but for NovoRussia.

  15. вот так on March 20, 2015  ·  at 5:33 pm EST/EDT

Glad the sods missed him. Novorussia can expect these sorts of assassination attempts to continue. It’s how Israel-America does international relations.

  16. Johan on March 20, 2015  ·  at 6:11 pm EST/EDT

The most important closely interrelated points, I am afraid, are the ones brought up by steeleweed and Miroslav above. Organizational structure, and protection of the field commanders – and with it the sensitive information they carry. I shiver at the very thought of CIA “enhanced interrogation techniques” “practical lessons” to SBU sadists…

  17. blue on March 20, 2015  ·  at 6:19 pm EST/EDT

He (and other such leaders) should be given an armored vehicle to use.

OK — I’m not ‘religious’, but too many times I’ve seen things that can’t be explained in ordinary ‘scientific’ terms, and I strongly suspect there is a non-physical aspect to existence — call is spirit, magick, fortune, ESP, or ‘guardian angels’, or whatever, but often enough things work out well in very mysterious ways.

Still — drive an armored vehicle and take some precautions: there’s no point in tempting ‘fate’.

That said, while it would certainly be tragic if they got him, there are plenty of others capable of taking his place because the whole organization is filled with people who have risen to the exceptional occasion. This was never a ‘one man show’, as Givi himself has often said.

    • Ann on March 21, 2015  ·  at 1:03 am EST/EDT

totally ! The spiritual has never said, “don’t do anything, we’ll do it all”

We’re not supposed to tempt fate….we have to do everything, but if we also ask for help, the Spiritual Beings, in particular, Christ, is here, wanting to help. But we have to ask….we’re not their babies any more….we need to turn to Him and ask. He said so.

  18. Jim on March 20, 2015  ·  at 6:53 pm EST/EDT

This is the kind of man fighting for freedom in the Donbas. “American sniper” is the kind of man fighting for American “freedom”. ‘Nuff said.

  19. teranam13 on March 20, 2015  ·  at 7:11 pm EST/EDT

re: Givi… Fate is not destiny….sanpaku is what shows in his face which means he must understand that his strength can be his downfall. He has a wonderfully passionate fiery nature based in his soul, heart and liver. However, it is advisable that he fast and retreat for a few days in Spring and Fall ( 3-10 days ) to clear the liver and to purify and strengthen his heart. Then perhaps his time will not be so soon and his death more consciously part of his life strategy. Make the forces of darkness have to work hard and pay dearly.

  20. Anonimo on March 20, 2015  ·  at 7:14 pm EST/EDT

It is very strange that, after criticizing Zakharchenko, Plotnitsky and the Minsk agreements, Mozgovoy and Givi have suffered attempts (frustrated) murder.
Of course it is no coincidence…
After all, we can trust – Zakharchenko, Plotnitsky ? Or Moscow is giving the message that orders are orders?
Here the link of Mozgovoi video:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jE5ELXyVb8I

That was not Ukro job, that are about POWER inside the Novorossiya. The idiots don’t understand that Givi, Mozgovoi (AND BATMAN too) are (was) HEROS and symbols, inside and OUTSIDE of the Novorossiya, important to hearts and minds of millions of people.
And about Givi, somebody need to tell him that he is IMPORTANT to the cause – he must to TAKE CARE! He, in this war, is a VIP.

    • Kat Kan on March 20, 2015  ·  at 8:36 pm EST/EDT

Don’t forget a sniper had a go at Zakharchenko… although that may have been just war and they didn’t know who he was. They’re ok on the power at the moment, even in Lugansk they’ve settled down and came to an arraignment with the Cossacks.

I think it is the orcs; they’ve declared Motorola dead at least 7 times so far. They’ve also passed a law authorising their SBU to conduct terrorist type subversive actions.

On the other hand it was just shooting, not a very well planned ambush, so maybe just some locals… considering Givi was there to help sort out some criminal activity apparently.

    • Ann on March 21, 2015  ·  at 1:06 am EST/EDT

  22. Jack on March 20, 2015  ·  at 8:38 pm EST/EDT

Several weeks ago a video was posted here, of a TV interview with Givi. At one point mortar shells began hitting nearby, with shrapnel falling all around Givi and the others in the vicinity.

As the explosions began, and others ducked and began running, Givi glanced briefly to one side and then went on with his interview as if nothing was happening. I remember thinking at the time (I had not known who he was prior to that video) “this guy is either completely nuts, or he’s the bravest SOB on the planet.”

Now that I know who he is, and what he’s done, and what kind of man he is, I join everyone else in the fervent hope that he manages to survive and to complete his mission.

  23. Blondinka Florida on March 20, 2015  ·  at 10:47 pm EST/EDT

Saker, What is it about Givi’s speech? Russian was my only language until 6 years old, as we lived with Zdedyshka from Rostov and Babyshaka from Belorussia, and since then it’s gotten more fluent. I only get about every 3rd word Givi ever says, sometimes none. He is supposed to be from Georgia, way back, but you tend to pick up the local accent soon, no matter where you live. Ya think he has a speach impediment or something? He “swallows” most words.

    • Kat Kan on March 20, 2015  ·  at 11:10 pm EST/EDT

Georgian TV interviewed him once and he said his grandfather was from there and he himself doesn’t speak the language. Claims to have grown up around Donbass, I forget the exact town. Lived in Ilovaisk when the war began.

Maybe he is just muttering? have you listened to anything else from him? is it always the same? compare with this older one

  27. greencrow on March 21, 2015  ·  at 3:39 am EST/EDT

Givi should give more thought to his own safety. He is an important resource for Novorossia…that is why they are trying to kill him. He should think of the overall welfare of the people he is charged with defending…how it would be for them to be leaderless and disheartened by his death. The people who are trying to kill him are international…they kill leaders all over the world because they want to rule the world. They don’t want humans ruling the world. These entities are not even human. David Icke calls them reptiles and I think that’s closer to the truth.

It was daylight, his car is well known, and he was on his way to “work” at the usual fighting place. Not hard to work out when and where he’d be. They overtook his car before shooting, so may have followed for a few blocks, wasn’t an ambush.

There’s a rumour it may have been some gang who was locked up by another commander some months ago (for criminal activity).

  30. Leticia on April 03, 2015  ·  at 8:13 am EST/EDT

Before finding out about [watches] you should be familiar with some of the terminology. The word horology has two meanings; it is the study or science of measuring time or the art of making clocks, [watches], and devices for telling time. Since the first appearance of man on the earth an effort has been made to determine time. The tracking of the sun’s movement across the sky, candles that were marked at intervals. Water clocks did not depend on the observation of the sky or the sun.
