Dear friends,
I am publishing the following map and videos “for your information”, as background information about the current situation.
This map is current as of yesterday. It is in Russian, but it is also rather self-explanatory.
Please click here for a very high resolution version of this map |
I have to tell you honestly that I do not have the time or stomach the following videos which were sent to me by readers. I can’t vouch for the quality of these videos, but they look well made to me.
The following two part video deal with the Odessa massacre.
This video deals with the issues of human right violations in Banderastan:

The DPR forces certainly gave up quite a bit of territory. Hopefully that was the correct decision.
People have been saying for a while that the really long blue arrow at the bottom should be cut off.
The “terra incognita” group at Snezhnoe is apparently under the command of “Prapor”, Strelkov’s friend from all the way back in Transnistria (where Strelkov fought as a volunteer). This is all that is known about this man. There is not much information coming from that area. It is not clear why.
Life in a failed Third World state:
Ukrainian police are investigating into Saturday’s attack on the editorial office of the Kiev-based newspaper Vesti, the Kiev police department said on Sunday, adding that a criminal case had been opened on hooliganism charges, informs ITAR-TASS.
Though based in Kiev, “Vesti” is a Russian language newspaper – tough luck in Banderastan these days…
On Saturday, about 50 masked men attacked the Vesti office. One of its employees, Grigory Grin, said the attack had happened at about 11:00 local time (12:00 Moscow time). “At first I heard several gunshots, more likely it were automatic weapons. Then rocks and Molotov cocktails came crashing through the windows of the first and second floors. After that tear gas was poured into the building, spreading around quickly, and it’s still hard to breath there. One of the security men, who tried to stop the criminals, was beaten up,” Grin said.

What Dalpe said!
As of now I will not blame Putin, nor say a word against him, if a single solder of the Russian Federation never puts his foot in Donetsk or Lugansk. But if pro-Russian militia in Donetsk or Lugansk lacks a single bullet, piece of artillery or tank to defend children, women and elderlies I will curse Putin and his family for the next 9 generations.
Kiev is Fighting a Battle it Will Never Win by, Tony Cartalucci
“But even as Kiev brutalizes and belittles the people of eastern Ukraine, it is ultimately fighting a battle it cannot win. The fighters opposing Kiev’s military incursions east appear to have established sustainable defenses. The downing of Kiev’s military aircraft and the overwhelming of armored columns indicates a military prowess that will be difficult for Ukrainian troops to overcome – troops already suffering from disorganization and low morale – both of which are only increasing.
“The longer Kiev fights on, the more exhausted its troops will become and the more battle hardened their opponents will be. Additionally, Kiev suffers from multiple strategic disadvantages, including a lack of public support beyond the howling but small ranks of Ukraine’s ultra-right Neo-Nazis. This lack of support will become increasingly acute when economic hardship begins digging in after multiple setbacks regarding Russian natural gas, and advances made by the European Union to draw in what little is left of Ukraine after the so-called “Euromaidan” began a process of sociopolitical and economic implosion.

Very good explanation of the really big picture vis-a-vis Iraq, Syria, Ukraine, and the new approach to war by the USA. “Lead from the back”.
I submit that a dispassionate analysis yields the conclusion that Russia is in full military/intelligence control of Ukraine. Ukraine is wired to blow. Novorossia as a federated region or an independent state is a necessary ingredient in the endgame. Therefore it will have enough support to succeed.
Further, Novorossia has acquired an independent character as a historical revolutionary movement. It once might have been a political force that would have served as a balance, but now its destiny is far beyond that.

Vary interesting read indeed. The US sets death traps, and pretty successful – when by success we mean death and destruction; at the same time these traps are much cheaper than direct mil. action.
How could Russia and Iran answer? Seems Russia and Iran are doing the learning now; there is not yet an effective counter-measure.
Perhaps some kind person here can help me to understand the general situation more clearly.
I have looked at the map (thanks, Saker, for this), but I am trying to understand the diplomatic context. I should excuse myself straight away for asking what may sound like dumb questions, but the information in the Western media is very slanted.
My understanding is that following the coup, the Kiev government enacted a series of laws to marginalize the citizens of Eastern Ukraine, basically as a prelude to civil war and ethnic cleansing. Russian was no longer recognized as an official language, and I believe (but am not sure) there were other(?) laws as well. (Maybe this is a first question. Any specifics on these new “laws” would be helpful.)
In response to the antagonistic stance of the coup, a Federal State of Novorossiya was declared in May, composed of self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Luhansk. My understanding is that they are seeking recognition as a new state, independent of both Russia and the rump-Ukraine. They are not proposing to join Russia as Crimea did.
Questions: is this summary more-or-less correct? Are there any details in English on the aims and government structure of an independent Novorossiya (URL?)? Has Russia officially recognized Novorossiya as an independent state?
I understand that we are talking about a very fluid situation, but if there are any programmatic statements I would be grateful to have a link to them.

The Southeast Army in Lugansk has captured some interesting new equipment!
Foremost is the capture of an SU-25, with a pilot making an emergency landing and surrendering himself and the plane to the LC.

But also of note is the capture of a T-72 tank, and the previously mentioned capture of GRAD MLRS vehicles and howitzers.

The Yanks don’t do geography! Heaven help them when they have to start talking about Donetsk. There are two, one in south east Ukraine and one in Russia close to the Ukrainian border.
When Russia fought against the Chechens in the second war,30000 people were on the enemy side out of a population of one million.Luhanks and Donetsk Oblast have 6 million living there but only 20000 men are fighting for the federalist side. There should be least 100000 men under weapons.
This is also the reason Putin doesnt intervene and help with weapons delivery. The majority of the population doesnt really support Pushilin, Strelkow and co.
Simple as that.

The LPR Defence Minister reports that a Ukie Su-25 made a forced landing at one of the airfields under LPR control. The plane and pilot have been captured.
People commenting on the story are debating whether
A) The pilot defected, and the ‘capture’ story is a cover to protect his family from reprisals or
B) It’s a trap designed to give the Ukies plausible deniability when the next air raid on civilians goes bad

I was working for the USG in early 1975, observing Vietnam in real time, when South Vietnam gave up the Central Highlands, in order to consolidate on the coast and Saigon. The retreat quickly became a route, the country falling in a month or two. Retreats and consolidation can be devastating, I hope not in the remnant of Novorossia.

“RAND Corp. is hired by Washington insiders to play games for them, indicating that despite all the money spent on national security and intelligence the US
government is not up to the task, Chronicles magazine’s Srdja Trifkovich told RT.
…[]…
RT: The document apparently outlines an advisable course of action if the Ukraine peace plan fails. How influential is the RAND Corporation in such matters?
ST: I am pretty convinced that the US government and it minions, consultants are totally devoid of any sense of moral guidance and propriety. In other words they
are perfectly happy to contemplate de-facto genocide of Russian-speakers and pro-Russian Ukrainians. And that fits in with their equal ease of consciousness,
with which they acted in the Mekong Delta during the Tet offensive in 1968 and its aftermath and elsewhere, not least during the bombing of the Federal Republic
of Yugoslavia, of Serbia and Montenegro in 1999.
So what we are looking at is simply a blueprint for making sure that Ukraine is turned into the mirror image of the Bandera style of Galicia and Podolia
in western Ukraine. It is a little bit like trying to turn the whole of the US into the mirror image of South Carolina, Georgia in 1861.“”

I have been saying that the ATO operation along the southern border is very risky and would be catastrophic if Russia intervened. Russia has not intervened, but the breakout of Slavyansk has freed enough NAF armor to encircle and box in the Ukie forces.
The zone of operations is south of Torez and Snizhne (“Snowy”). Ukrainians claim that NAF already has 15 tanks (MBT) there. They also seem to have good anti-aircraft weaponry. The critical point is the 277.9 m high Saur-Mogila mountain (with the well-known war memorial) only 7 km from the border. It is held by NAF but constantly shelled by junta forces to the south. Amvrosievka futher west could be another choke point.
If all the numbers add up, NAF now has over 30 main battle tanks. (T-64, two IS-3) This force would be enough to box in the Ukrainian division. This could provide a *decisive* victory to NAF without Russian involvement. (Russia still needs to make sure thet the Ukrainian forces do not break out of the encirclement, at least with their heavy armor and other weapons.) Ukraine@war pointed out five T-64 tanks approaching the other end of the Ukrainian pocket from the north, near the Izvaryne border crossing.
This article says the Ukrainian General Staff is in panic because of the situation.
Генштаб Украины: мы накануне катастрофы
Saker said on Saturday (Does the shelling of the Russian border posts really matter?) that Russia should or could – under international law – react to the cross-border shelling by destroying the Ukrainian artillery with MRLS salvos. No! What Russia should do is simply move 7 km into Ukrainian territory to meet with the Novorossiyan forces and box in the whole southern division.
My apologies if this has already been commented upon – a very important article in the propaganda war appeared online on Sunday:
http://www.commondreams.org/view/2014/07/06-3
This article, written by Robert Parry of Consortium News, takes the New York Times to task for its coverage of the crisis in Ukraine, and in doing so spells out very clearly for an American audience the history of that crisis.
I think it is important because Robert Parry has in the past been an Obama apologist. He is gradually changing his view from ‘he didn’t know what he was doing’ to ‘he has joined the neocons’. Not completely reversed as yet, but clearly he is struggling with the concept that Obama knows what he is doing and is doing it deliberately.
The truth is filtering up. Consortium News isn’t quite 296mainstream, but I think it is the next level below, and I also think not many folk believe the mainstream currently thanks to their clear distortions on what is happening in Ukraine. Even longtime Guardian readers comment on how bad that coverage has become.
We are winning this battle at least.
Here is a better resolution version of the map.

via Gleb Bazov, an article about how Ukraine generals are in full panic mode. Gleb tweets: “Something to do with how they left both flanks exposed on the southern fronts along the border & now expect a major defeat shortly.”
The General staff of Ukraine: we are on the eve of catastrophe
A source from Kiev informs that in the Ukrainian General staff panic reigns – day is expected catastrophic defeat ATO forces in the South.
It is reported that the plan of the operation, prepared at the General staff and implemented from the beginning of June repeatedly and flagrantly violated under the pressure of the SBU and the so-called “expert advisors”. In particular, the plan called for cutting the bumps along the lines of Dmitrov-Debaltsevo and Amvrosiyivka-Debaltsevo to isolate Donetsk and ensure the safety of the left wing forces ATO, coming from the South along the border on Izvarino and Krasnodon.
If the offensive forces ATO on Debaltsevo from Dmitrov, ended on the outskirts of Gorlovka, but does not lead to tragic consequences, the failed attack Amvrosievka put all the atoms in a critical situation. Not only that failed “RAID” to capture the Amvrosiyivka and Snow, but in the hands of the militia also remained height Saur-Grave.
As a result of such adjustment of the operational plans of the secret services and overseas experts, the main grouping of southern forces ATO, with a large number of tanks, other armored vehicles and artillery moved forward more than 60 kilometers along the border, leaving in the rear narrow isthmus between the mountain Saur-Grave and the Russian border is no more than 7-8 km. That is, all supply columns ATO forces were at a glance before militiamen in clear weather with Saur-Grave visible even to the sea of Azov, which is 90 kilometers.
The punishment for bungling followed immediately – from mid June to the end “truce”, according to the Ukrainian General staff, in the South of reconnaissance and sabotage groups DND were attacked and partially destroyed more than 20 columns of supply. At the moment the force of ATU, who took checkpoint Dolzhanskaya” and rushed from the South to the Sverdlovsk efficient conditional, for lack of fuel and food.

The pro-Russian militia in Donetsk or Lugansk are not just fighting the UKIE army, Nazis, there are also fighting the Khazar Empire which includes the FED ATM $$. Time and Time again the Fed $$ buys their win, it happened in Libya, Syria, Iraq etc. I suspect that some ground commanders have been compromised among the militia, that is why the pull out. A purge will take place, after this we can expect Russian support.
It looks like the Resistance is starting to use guerilla tactics – they reportedly have killed a Ukie commander behind enemy lines.
Maybe they read Larchmonter’s post a few days back ;-)
There is buzz that the occupying army in Slovyansk is exhuming bodies of conscripts that they previously murdered for refusing to fight (near one of their checkpoints I think) and will try to blame the deaths on the militia.

fwiw:
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s richest man, coal and steel magnate Rinat Akhmetov, pleaded with the government on Monday not to bomb his home city of Donetsk and the wider Donbass region.
Mr Akhmetov, whose fortune is estimated at more than $11bn (£6.5bn), said government forces should show restraint in their operations in the east of Ukraine.
“Donetsk must not be bombed. Donbass must not be bombed. Cities, towns and infrastructure must not be destroyed,” he told Ukrainian TV. “We must avoid suffering and deaths of peaceful people.”
Dear The Saker,
I don’t know why but I found this of news a bit sinister:

Why stop children leaving a war-zone? I think some of us know – I hope the Novorussian people/Russians help these children get through to safety.

Looking at the map… If the Republicans have a way to act South to the border and cut the Ukies infiltrated there from their supplies, these bandits could begin quite soon to feel damn alone…

A railway bridge over a major motorway has been blown up. It is about 80 km from Slaviansk. I haven’t been able to figure out exactly where but I think it is south of Slaviansk. It may slow down movement of heavy armor.
Veritas 16:04
The Ukies have been attacking traffic on a road from Krasnodon towards the border crossing into Russia. Exactly the sort of road refugees would use trying to leave. This earlier video shows Ukie tanks in the area
This blog report has a number of infographics representing the losses on both sides. It mentions that the Ukie figures are based on information provided by Strelkov and others. If accurate (and the aircraft figures seem so) then the Ukies appear to have suffered major losses over the past 2 months.

That long narrow corridor along the Russian border is just asking to be closed. All it would take is for one Ukie tank to be forced to retreat over the border for the Russian forces to have full legal right to take action to defend Russia.
No wonder the Ukie General Staff is having kittens. I hope their hubris lead to their downfall.

Why stop children leaving a war-zone?
Because some people are addicted to power and privilege.
Because some people desperately look for an outlet for their pent-up hatred.
Because some people love to inflict pain on others
Because children are vulnerable and reflect everything that those people do not want to recognise on themselves – so they destroy the mirror image in order to retain their fragile balance.
None of that will stop Porky and Yats from waxing lyrical about how they had to destroy civilian lives in order to save them from the terrorists. How pain and horror is the necessary process by which Banderastan will eventually transcend to a purified and glorious nation – like Oceania and its appendix Airstrip One.

The Ukies Facebook page #ATO has some interesting pictures of what look to be PMC individuals forming close protection for general What’s-his-name. There is one individual in particular who is very interesting. He has rolled up sleeves, a watch with a brown leather strap on his left wrist, a gun slung behind his bask and a nice hand gun tucked into a pouch high up to the right of his flack jacket. The pistol looks like a Glock, but that is just guesswork based on shape rather than my expertise in guns. He is almost always by the side of the Ukie General and seems to be a commander rather than an ordinary soldier. In lots of the photos with the two, there are often one or more alert armed men in identical uniforms with pistol holsters strapped to their right thighs (see previous linked photo), something that seems to be very common with PMCs and never the case with the rather ragged Ukie army men. The man’s face is familiar. To me, he looks like this man on the left of this picture, a rather startled Jerzy Dziewulski alongside Alexander Turchinov. This article also states the PMC commander wear a pistol holstered to his chest (a coincidence? I don’t think so). This photo was taken on the outskirts of Slavyansk in early June 2014. This final photo shows the General, Dziewulski(?) and a local conferring over a map. Is the local passing on details of where Strelkov’s men were based or had weapon caches?
There are many more images of the general, the commander and the PMCs in the Facebook pages.
The article about Dziewulski states that he “is a notorious counter-terrorism expert, having been trained in the US, Israel, France, and Germany, and he currently runs his own private ‘security’ organization” and that the Pole Sikorski (ex Polish gov’t now with AEI in the States) was “playing dumb about the presence of Polish mercenaries in Ukraine and saying he’d “report the fact to the country’s prosecution office”
