What triggered the rage??? I think there is a possibility that this is a troll (hopefully), who wrote it just for the sake of getting people angry and also for attention. Andrei, please be careful. Online threats can turn into reality.

There is such a thing as a host/guest relationship. The host is supposed by ancient custom to show generous hospitality while the guest shows appreciation and the expected manners. This was long how peace was maintained by strangers. We should not stand on our rights but rather treat each other according to the golden rule. Moderators, and certainly the site host, have every right to simply ban people who violate these customs. If they want to regain access to the community hosted by the Saker they should make a public apology – instead of thinking they can somehow litigate their way back in. Perhaps there are already guidelines of which I am ignorant. This is just my opinion. In any case I to should thank the moderators for their unpaid efforts. Much appreciated.

I received abuse like this on occasion this year, in the supermarket, if I stepped too close to someone and its generally an old lady! My only response is “calm down”.
I think that there will be increasing attempts to discredit and intimidate this blog, and we might have the odd 77th brigade contribution to contend with.

The level of insult and invective that is tolerated at some otherwise worthwhile sites is unbelievable!
That is, the original writing is good, responsible, thought-provoking, controversial, whatever.
But the commenters resort to boorish verbal flaming as soon as they encounter a note of disagreement with their own views.
Truly an insult to the effort put forth to write an essay or analysis so that these commenters have something to read. It is also an insult to the commenter who may have put considerable time into writing and even researching a comment.
Boorish comments also have the effect that readers are less eager to forward the original writing because the boorish commenters tar the whole thing with their boorishness.
Thus, boorish commenters are a real liability for any alt-news site.

I myself am generally pleased when, in dialogue, a colleague chooses to resort to ad homenim. Ad homenim is in logic considered to be concession, as the speaker has obviously exhausted his rational armament and has realized that he is in the awkward position of agreeing with me after all. If possible, then, I buy the poor sod a whisky.
Accordingly, in Saker’s Vineyard, every ad homenim is a little gold star on Saker’s score-card.
Of course they’re also rude and contribute very little to a symposium.
I am interested in why some people are so very upset with what they see, hear, and read. In this respect I recall CIA director Casey’s frankness to Ray-ghun in 1980, when he said “We’ll know our disinformation program is complete when everything the American public believes is false.”
Of course a blanket tapestry of lies cannot accord with observed reality – and thus creates a failure of suspension of disbelief – the angst of contradiction – and thus fear and strident zunftsprache or expressions of cant (such as “Russia did…whatever”)

I am hoping that you are using this material as data, meta-data it, and logging it appropriately to a database, in order to perform analyses:
1. what is driving the incidents?
2. identify sources, especially, but not limited to source trends
3. improve edit and presentation to pre-emptively mitigate honest destructive reactions (a great tool to continuously improve content creation and finalization)
4. identify what the establishment considers sensitive, thus what is dangerous to it/them
Any data source like this is bound to be useful
I know that this is work, but, assuming an ongoing enterprise, this is ultimately a labour-saving net.
I think that I would make for a well-qualified “moderator.” Why?
With all humility, working with students and their parents in the US, one had to grow a crocodile skin in order to survive.
Even more importantly, I was raised in a family who loved to debate with like-minded folks, but not exclusively. We always included those with many varied viewpoints. All were allowed to voice their views, as long as they could substantiate their views with reason, logic, and a flare for “communicative skills.” :)
