O’Hanlon parrots humanitarian interventionist humbug when he says that the Syrian air force needs to be downgraded so that it can’t drop barrelbombs on civilians. I am afraid that his livelihood depends on seeing the world through pentagon-shaped glasses.
And anyway barrel bombs, an invention of the US army, are dropped from helicopters and are more accurate than gravity bombs. The air force has nothing to do with them.
The point is that the pro Israel war faction wants to end Syria as a civilization forever. ISIS in Damascus is ok because they will be the most effective tool for the destruction of Syrian civilization and the liquidation of its non compliant population.
The problem the empire faces is that the only opposition to hegemony is the ancient civilizations like Iran and China and Russia that have the ability to rise from the ashes and reestablish themselves.
If you can bring an end to the competing civilizations then you can rule forever. Iraq Libya and now Syria are the laboratories for civilizational eradication. Syria is a work in progress and plan B is plan A. There is only plan A. Compromise is not part of the strategy.
O’Hanlon is a realist in the sense that the Empire being an Empire cannot do or be otherwise: facts must move out of the way; there shalt not be any gods before it.
Please, please, stop the foolishness of these “peace talks”. The one and only solution to the Syrian War is victory for the government. All the rest is an “illusion” that only helps the terrorists to destroy Syria. I’m so sick and tired of hearing over and over about these “peace talks”. And then hearing over and over how they aren’t working. Of course they aren’t working. The West has zero intention for them to work. Russia and Iran if they have “any” intention of saving Syria from destruction they need to strike and strike with absolute force to destroy the terrorists. If they don’t plan to save Syria ,stop doing anything and just let the terrorists and West destroy Syria. Maybe that would save “some ” people in Syria from constant unwinnable war.The choice needs to be made, and made now ,not after hundreds of thousands more Syrians die uselessly.
To solve this war I’d recommend two actions by the Syrian government. 1. Assad meet with Russian and Iranian leaders and ask them in plain language ,”Do you support us. And want to help us “fully” to defeat terrorism and save Syria”,if the answer is no. Then kick them out of Syria and arrange a surrender to the West. Trying to save what you can. If the answer is yes. Then ask them to do everything to help,or you do the other plan. 2. You have your people take the war directly to Saudi Arabia and Turkey. Let not a day or a week go by without an attack in those two countries. Not a day or week go by with a Saudi or Turkish official safe from assassination in those countries.Only by putting the absolute fear of personal death among those leaders will they have the “incentive” needed to stop supporting terrorism in Syria. That policy is 4 years late. But should be implemented today.

Ohanlon is a neoconservative douche who should be shipped to gitmo for his crimes. Crimes we hang NAZIs for.

The American war horse is a one trick pony. War!
Switched off as soon as brookings talked about barrel bombs. Much prefer the shows without the neocon punching bag.
