But without any risk of war on the horizon, NATO itself became the greatest risk of war. Moreover, from the point of view of its myriad officials and employees, it provides job security and status. So, ironically, we find that NATO behaves rather like a living organism that will do anything to survive – even to the extent of flirting with thermonuclear war.
yes, all such organizations take on a life of it’s own, even if the original goal for creating them is no longer there. After all, if you include all the jobs on the line, direct and indirect, from the existence of NATO, I am sure it’s in the many millions (of people) and many Billions in $$$
