It is with great surprise that I read the other day that Cyprus and Russia have signed an agreement on allowing the use of Cyprus ports by Russian Navy vessels. Not more so than the fact that this agreement was signed by a president which two years ago spoke openly on applying for entry into Partnership for Peace.
First, let us take a look at what was signed. The complete list can be found here (in Greek). It is rather long to be translated for the sake of this article; suffice to say that it includes agreements and memoranda of understanding (MOU) of various subjects ranging from sports to science to political coordination and intelligence exchange. Most of what was signed is updates and continuation of existing agreements and MOUs.
The “hot item” is item #5 (my translation):
Memorandum of Understanding on the Cooperation between the two Ministries of Defence in the Navy Department. The Memorandum anticipates the development of naval cooperation between the Navy of the Republic of Cyprus and the Navy of the Russian Federation. It covers many aspects, among others Search and Rescue (SAR) in the area of Cyprus as well as the provision of facilities at the ports of the Republic.
Russian media, quoting Putin, indicated that the agreement “applies to Russian vessels involved in counter-terrorism and anti-piracy efforts” – no lack of those in the Cyprus area – as well as “The updated agreement envisages the right of Russian warships to visit the ports of Cyprus…for humanitarian purposes such as supply and refueling as well as saving the lives and evacuation of Russian citizens from neighboring states” in the words of Putin.
Russia on the other hand offered some sound financial incentives, with the most immediate being the extension of a €2.5 Billion loan to Cyprus up to 2021 (it was due in 2016) with an almost 50% reduction in the interest rate (2.5% instead of 4.5%).
This is “cracking open the door open a bit”. Officially this is a cooperation agreement between two navies decorated with the Western-favorite catchphrase of anti-terrorism. The catch here is that Cyprus does not have a navy to speak of bar four patrol boats, so with whom the Russian navy will cooperate in blue waters? Moreover, as Cyprus does not have a military naval base the Russian vessels will mainly use the port of Limassol which is a civilian port and the home of an estimated 30,000 to 50,000 Russians (a quarter of the city’s population). These facts have already been pointed out by the Cyprus government to beautify the agreement by saying to the EU something along the lines of “look fellas, we allowed them the use of a civilian port, in a city they will really feel like home and to combat terrorism. What is wrong with that?”
Is this what Russia has asked for? Not exactly. Russia does want military bases in the area, especially considering the state of Tartus in Syria. On the other hand, Cyprus as an EU member cannot simply go and outright give everything Russia asked for, not without some more background work at least. I believe that both countries will wait and see how this will work out (and how much pressure Cyprus is due to get) and then move on to touch the really hot potato (for Cyprus) that is the use of Paphos air force base by Russia.

Interesting. Her involvement becomes murkier and murkier. No wonder Ukraine asked for her to leave and that alleged Odessa massacre MP were detained for questioning…….wouldn’t be hard for them to get illegal arms. I think the North Ossetia plates are a red herring anyway.
Even though the march was in memory of the slain opposition figure, there were several people who carried posters with calls urging the authorities to free Ukrainian pilot Nadezhda Savchenko, including her lawyer. Just can’t help themselves. This woman is being questioned for killing 2 Russian journalists and a Russian figure has been shot and these imbeciles think it appropriate to use this mourning march for their political ends – jeez.
In regard to Cyprus it will be interesting to see EU/NATO reaction in the coming weeks apart from a lot of hot air so far. Russia also needs for Libya/Egyptian involvement on the horizon.
Greece asked today for Russia to lift sanctions for peaches, strawberries and one other fruit. That request may come wrapped up with conditions – Turk Stream etc.

I suspect Cyprus doesn’t have long to wait before “soft power” makes its appearance there.
Perhaps not much time left for making allies. The demonization of Putin is running hot and strong. Both Sputniknews and RT running articles on Russia being ready for instant response in event of nuclear strike.
that’s scare mongering

Hi Ann. Although I have done a lot of reading in the past, I am not very good at writing/explaining my thoughts but will try here.
Most of my reading was about war, how wars started, biographies ect.
The constant theme I found to be human nature. Technology/accumulated knowledge do not change human nature.
There is always the unknown, irrational action, fog of war, acts of desperation type occurrence. These are difficult or impossible to forecast in advance.
We are building up to war. There is no avoiding this fact. Perhaps it will fizzle out?
As for the articles in Sputniknews and RT I wonder why they are there at this point. To reassure Russian people? Because there was a threat and they were letting the other side know they were ready? I don’t know.
For what it is worth, these warwishing US governments we seem recently plagued with have only so far wrecked countries smaller by far than them. And although winning anything doesn’t seem to be the purposed goal, profit does. It’s hard to see profit in nuclear conflagration, though fear does provide a dividend of sorts. Sure helps boost the weapons budget.
Greed seems to be edging out other predictable aspects of human nature these days.
Isn’t their purpose power, Juliana? US is sinking, so to retain relative power over other countries, she’s reducing them to chaos. But because the Rus/China/Iran/BRICS coalition is strengthening so fast, US is now going to have to DO something to change the current trend. Especially because there’s a small current which is turning EU away from US and towards the East.
Also when a country becomes chaos US can go in and loot, which helps delay her own collapse. I see the greed only as a mechanism for achieving power, cuza the amounts of money involved are too large to be spent on anything except power.
Kakaouskia, thank you for the info. Perhaps Cyprus wd have gotten less flack about the use of the airbase if she’d presented it as a fait acompli– but who knows.
Looks as if Russia wd prefer to fight ISIS & other terrorism before it reaches her borders:
EGYPT-RUS-LIBYA COALITION TO FIGHT ISIS?
Egypt bought $2 B worth of Rus military equip & now it appears will buy MiG-35s . Egypt says it wd welcome Rus participation in Libyan blockade against ISIS.. Russia does not rule out participating in an international anti-terrorism coalition in Libya. http://nsnbc.me/2015/02/28/egyptian-defense-minister-visits-moscow-mig-35s-and-defense-cooperation-on-the-agenda/
Egyptian think tank: “If there is a real will to defeat terrorism before it arrives to Egyptian territory in a clear and intensified fashion, there should be preemptive strikes against those who aid the terrorists. … I specifically mean the Qatari airplanes that aid them through Sudan.”
Egypt carrying out airstrikes in Libya w permission of her Tobruk govt. http://nsnbc.me/2015/02/19/terrorism-in-egyptlibya-must-be-fought-at-its-root-think-tank-
Regarding Egypt looking into buying MiGs, that’s a surprising turnabout. I read a week or two ago that Egypt had opted to buy Rafale rubbish instead of MiGs. It was only a 24 plane contract (a squadron plus reserves), maybe the Egyptians are thinking of buying both types or now dropping the Rafale?
E already has 230 F-16, wants to diversify away from US. France desperate to sell the Rafael, so many deals have fallen thru, so 2 incentives– avail imm’y & longterm financing w big discount.
The MiGs are in addition. E is already facing ISIS in Sinai & Libya. http://time.com/3710118/egypt-rafale-fighter-jet-france/#3710118/egypt-rafale-fighter-jet-france/
Penelope, what is NSNBC. I’ve read it on your links but don’t know much about it.
Ann,
nsnbc international is a Danish source which I think is just two years old. The principal is christof lehmann who seems to be exceptionally well-informed. The articles written by him personally tend to be unique, never reported elsewhere. In other cases I find his analysis to be months ahead of other people’s.
For example, when EU first announced the Third Energy Package (I think that’s what it’s called), he predicted right then that there wd be an attempt against Ukraine– months before it began. Once it had begun he was the first to say that it was for the purpose of driving a wedge between EU and Russian econ/trade development. I started repeating this everywhere but it was a long time before others began to pick it up.
It’s only the articles by him that are anything special.
OT.
Robert Fisk over at The Independent nails it: The difference between America and Israel? There isn’t one.
Money quote:
It’s a pity Bibi wasn’t born in New York. Then we could have US President Netanyahu – and stop pretending there’s any difference between the Israeli and American governments.
A bit off topic but the king of Thailand could have been president of the United States since he was born in Cambridge, Mass. I guess there are other positions in the world that are more important to some than being president.
Seamus Padraig
Robert Fisk over at The Independent nails it
Really? Like with this zionazi propaganda?
Obama is struggling to reach an agreement with Iran which would protect the world from any nuclear weapon production by the Islamic Republic.
Give me a f*cking break.
Zionazi stooge fisk has been shilling for the zionazi Israeli propaganda against Iran and Syria from day one and has been exposed as such years ago. Same for your sacred independent rag the Israeki shill writes for. That’s been well documented here, and on alternative sites repeatedly. Only an Israeli shill would promote this nemtsovian quisling. What’s next, promoting the guardian? Haaretz? The NYT? R2P – openly?
THE TIMING OF THE MOSCOW KILLING MAY BE TO KNOCK THIS STORY OFF THE FRONT PAGE
2 UK Planes & 1 US helicopter shot down while dropping supplies to ISIS:
“Last Monday, a senior lawmaker disclosed that Iraq’s army had shot down two British planes as they were carrying weapons for the ISIL terrorists in Al-Anbar province. The Iraqi Parliament’s National Security and Defense Committee has access to the photos of both planes that are British and have crashed while they were carrying weapons for the ISIL,” al-Zameli said, according to a Monday report of the Arabic-language information center of the Islamic Supreme Council of Iraq.
Last week, Head of the Iraqi Parliament’s National Security and Defense Committee Hakem al-Zameli announced that the helicopters of the US-led anti-ISIL coalition were dropping weapons and foodstuff for the ISIL terrorists in the Southern parts of Tikrit.
He underscored that he had documents and photos showing that the US Apache helicopters airdropped foodstuff and weapons for the ISIL.”

Excellent find!
Much more than likely …
This Moscow business is simply the puppet show to distract public attention for a few days.
The task is indeed to try and find/see what is going on ‘off’ the msm radar screen.
“He said the Iraqi parliament has asked London for explanations in this regard.”
Perhaps one for George Galloway to take up in the UK parliament.
Well, GlobalResearch will publish anything. This article was originally published by Fars News Agaency, and the only “evidence” of these downed planes is one unattributed, undated photo of some soldiers in front of a helicopter – not evidence at all given Iran’s stance towards the US.
Why would the US give anti-aircraft weapons to ISIS, when the majority of planes will be US ones?
The only evidence it has happened in the past is when 1 load out of 28 fell into ISIS hands, which could well be a stuff-up, not deliberately supplying the enemy.
Iraq– not ISIS– shot down the 2 UK planes & the one US helicopter & there is a photo of the downed chopper on the story. Globalresearch is extremely reliable. There have been numerous reports of US planes “accidentally” dropping supplies to ISIS. You have not seen the story on MSM because they don’t want it known– OBVIOUSLY.
good retort girl !!!
If you start from the proposition that GlobalResearch is reliable, then you are not discriminating. Of course they publish rubbish if it fits their point of view. It is as much propaganda as the MSM and RT. The truth invariably lies somewhere in between. Unfortunately, the internet is open slather for propaganda and rubbish, and you need to check the facts (which often turn out to be not facts) and THINK about whether it makes sense. Be especially wary of Iranian media, and sites that republish Iranian stories as is they were true.
The photo could be of ANY soldiers standing in from of ANY crashed helicopter, taken ANYWHERE, at ANY time. I know the Iranians say they are Iraqi soldiers, but how do THEY know?
> “There have been numerous reports of US planes “accidentally” dropping supplies to ISIS.”
Some links would be better than mere assertions. There is a propaganda war going on you know.
US is confirming lost aircraft. See below.
Not the same ones though.

Pure smear and innuendo. The fact is the Fars article doesn’t contain any checkable facts, and GlobalResearch just published it anyway.
I don’t want to spoil anyone’s fun, but I don’t believe the much touted idea that ISIS is controlled by US. It is controlled by Saudi Arabia, particularly the Wahhab clan there. They are the Keepers of Holy Shrines of Mecca and Medina, they run the Hajj (which makes them a lot of money), they run the madrassas, select lawyers and judges for the Sharia Courts, and issue Fatwas. The Saud clan run the Government, which means dealing with the infidel, selling oil in Dollars, buying arms, etc.
The MSM has it that Saudi Arabia is a good ally to the US, but there are numerous instances where they pursue their own foreign policy to the detriment of US objectives. They need each other, but have totallydifferent ambitions.

what nonsense is this? Report the loss a decade later to add up the tally? So it look correct in the history books? Why was it not reported at the time. It took them over a decade to rescue the pilots?
F-15 fighter jet lost over Iraq
Coalition rescue teams were searching for two US airmen from a F-15E Strike Eagle fighter jet that went down over Iraq.
Officials at US Central Command in Qatar said it was unclear whether the plane was shot down.
The fighter went missing around 3.30am local time on Monday, but its loss was not announced until later for security reasons, said Marine Maj Brad Bartelt, a Central Command spokesman.
“You want to protect the lives of any survivors on the ground,” Bartelt said. “As soon as you send that information out, what you can do potentially is tip off an adversary or an enemy as to where or what happened.”
A separate US military source said the plane went down near the city of Tikrit, the home town of Iraqi President Saddam Hussein. The town is believed to be a stronghold of Iraqi resistance.
Central Command said the airmen and their aircraft were forward deployed from the 4th Fighter Wing at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, North Carolina.
In a release, the command said: “The coalition expects Iraqi forces and Iraqi citizens to abide by all Geneva Conventions relating to the treatment of prisoners.”
A coalition A-10 “Warthog” warplane was shot down near Baghdad early yesterday in the first reported downing of a coalition aircraft by an Iraqi surface-to-air missile.
Its pilot ejected safely and was recovered by coalition ground forces near the airport, US Central Command said. The pilot was reported to be in good condition.
There is an element, not one person but a set of them ruled by one, who is behind the assassination of Nemtsov. The murder has all the careful hallmarks. The NSA intelligence reach is 100%, his apartment and that of his girlfriend were both completely bugged I assume. The snowplow quickly blocking the two with the fresh plowed snow could have easily been deliberate, the site portentous and valuable for advertising danger for more of the same as with Putin intimates sanctioned. The mass protest of the murder further advertises how easy (which may prove untrue)it will be to kill all others targeted. Some of Holllywood audience assumptions as if the protesters are Americans who expect to be stopped, punished, so they do it themselves. Russians are different. See Donensk fighter commanders yesterday. The set ruled by one I assume the one is supremely insane. By supremely because the is one can order such an elimination and have it perfectly done. By perfect, all the elements that expand and amplify the action become in play, media expansion of these elements is vital beyond vital. As stated, western media will use positive spin, beginning to be doubted as real,to help demonise Russia more, Russian media, growing by leaps and bounds, will give the reality of the negative spin as well the the power of national grief to unite. Which is the reason Obama always lies as he is destroying all peace and all chances for it:genocide. Named Democracy.
I am so grateful that this blog and blogger exist and are so excellent. I am amazed. If the United States is not stopped, and information is the only way to do so I think, the end of the species would be sure. Stopping the insane can be done by those who understand the stakes. See Donensk, Russia, China,Greece, Cyprus. Suzanne
I suspect breaking the dollar is the only way the US can be stopped.
Yes, not but before they have the opportunity to unleash their genocidal/suicidal fury. Nothing’s as dangerous as the insanely powerful & rich when they suspect their criminal enterprises are coming to an end, especially when beaten by a despised foe who is their intellectual and moral superior. (That’s why, apropos your earlier comment about those eerie nuke response articles, I can’t help but wonder if the timing of those articles suggests some knowledge we’re not privy to.)
May be a response to the missiles already at Odessa plus the missile deal that Porky agreed to w Dubai the other day. Appears US is going to arm Ukraine as if they were in NATO.
Europe shd note that it will soon be safer Not to be a NATO member.
Peter, you may be right, but everybody including Russia and China want to avoid anything happening to the dollar too SUDDENLY– because of a potentially catastrophic effect on the global economy, the worth of everybody’s currency reserves and treasury bonds. Also the effect on trade if there is chaos. Many countries depend on trade for FOOD and just can’t withstand any lapse in trade relations.
Also Russia’s SWIFT replacement (that is, the international portion ) won’t be ready until April or May. It wd not surprise me to see a catastrophic attack on Novorossiya before that. Doesn’t it feel to you as if this is the most dangerous period we’ve ever lived through?
“Doesn’t it feel to you as if this is the most dangerous period we’ve ever lived through?”
.
That it is.
Just my own thoughts and I am no expert. A slowly devaluing dollar will give the US time to wage war if they see the writing on the wall. A sudden crash and the US may lash out in desperation, or just try to get their economy and country back together.
Not good times at all.
In the last few weeks Russia has been setting up deals with Cyprus, Greece, Turkey, Syria, Egypt, Iran, India and North Korea in what seems like a surge in activity. Couple that with the ratifying of the BRICS Development Bank, the completion of its credit card system, the creation of RosSWIFT (currently only Russian banks), and the sell-down of US Treasuries and purchase of Gold, the preparations for de-dollarisation are nearly complete.
If the Ukraine situation turns worse, as seems likely, Putin could probably go off-dollar right now. However the more deals he has in place before the crunch point, the smoother things will run afterwards.
On the US-UK side, BP has announced no significant shale oil in UK, Chevron has abandoned its last European fracking project, ExxonMobil announces sanctions have cost it $1 billion in Russia,
and US fracking companies are cutting staff and mothballing drilling rigs.
Ukraine is down to pre-paying Gazprom for gas on a daily basis, the Hryvnia is collapsing, the gold is gone, and the Central Bank is saying “Don’t Panic !” (always the signal to panic).
Greece may well have made the decision to leave the Euro (the decision has to be kept secret until the last minute while preparations continue, see http://www.davekimble.org.au/grexit.htm ).
Austria is refusing to support Heta Asset Resolution, the “bad bank” holding all the toxic assets of failed Hypo Alpe Adria bank, which means the creditors are going to lose all their money. http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-03-01/spectacular-developments-austria-bail-arrives-after-%E2%82%AC76-billion-bad-bank-capital-hol
US is telling NATO countries they must increase defence spending, but Germany and France have budgeted LESS in the coming year, as will most European countries.
Everything will be fine, until WW3 starts.
sounds like the austrians have been caught (again!) reading or not reading karl marx’s classic, das crapital.
deja vu may 11 1931 kredit anstaldt all over again.
austria uses the euro, previously the krone.
recall they are one of the 3 supposed countries heavily involved in swiss banksters extending lowlow interest rate swiss franc denominated home mortgage loans to the rubes there, despite said euro in austria.
proper way to read this chart is “euro worth in swiss francs”–when the swiss had the peg on till early jan/2015, a euro was worth 1.20 francs. then it dropped the day the swiss un-pegged, to 1:1 parity, but has recovered to only worth 1.08 francs.
so anyone with a loan in francs owes about 15% more now in their euro currency they have their income in.
and the day the swiss removed the hard peg, their 600B euros on their SNB balance sheet they had bought since sept/2011 to effect the peg instantly lost many tens of billions.
oh, well.
even worse, not seen in the chart, the swiss in effect doubled down a few weeks ago & announced a “soft peg” of 1.05–u can see on the chart it’s not working & overrunning!
http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?c=$XEU:$XSF,uu%5Bd,a%5Dwaclyyay%5Bdf%5D%5Bpc50!c155%5D%5Bvc60%5D%5BiUb14!La12,26,9%5D&pref=G
Technical note: Before adopting the Euro in 2002, Austria used to use the Schilling, not the Krone, which was discontinued when the Austro-Hungarian Empire was abolished.
With gas pipeline access from Turk Stream thru to Cairo now possible (transit rights to a future node on Cyprus?) and payments in Egyptian pounds / Russian rubles – and Med-sea exploration with on-shoring at (Gaza?) it all looks like it’s all falling nicely into place ‘as if’ by design.
The recent fizzle-march outside the Kremlin’s walls looks like Round 7 of the ‘Rumble…’ is about to end. Round 8 will be a long one, and Putin is the quiet achiever type, but sometime after 9 May looks likely for the start of some public Spring ‘celebrations’ (the 85% are expecting something to party over!) and the KO in 3Q (plus or minus a few).
rumble in da jungle
With the usd$ and euro financialised faux economies in (or heading into) deep depression crisis – and maybe a Greece default Q2 will play its part in sinking some German banks – we can expect some very interesting times ahead. The ECB’s QE printing presses have just started their hyper-drive production run and I suspect this is one of the events being overshadowed by the tea-cup storm in Moscow streets — gotta dampen any market contagion risk.
A rather concerned writer thinks: “Putin has kept his eyes on the prize, the Black Sea. What the rest of the world is doing, alas, is anybody’s guess.”
putin-s-power-projection-it-s-all-about-energy-and-the-black-sea
I would agree, except I think the Black Sea as “Putin’s lake” is a tad small time thinking — he’s going right thru to the land of the Sphinx and a right turn across to Tripoli, if not Carthage, to help rebuild the mess and chaos from the recent invasions of NATO vandals and Gazprom/Rosneft right thru to Sicily or even Sardinia en route to Italy & France.
This last ‘tip of the spear’ thrust will be his ‘pay cheque’ to his Beijing Brothers in Arms who lost a whole lot of “love’n” in NATO’s usd$ protecting illegal invasion of Gaddafi’s Libyan/North African development projects and also have a whole lot of soon to be devalued usd$ paper money to burn for the ancestors to enjoy.
Today ‘$paper’ is 9/10ths of the law — tomorrow, possession and infrastructure will be 9/10ths of the law that matters and then, hopefully, the end of chaos will be a return to normal (based on real assets rather than fantastical Hollywood derivatives).
Good points you make.
The Black Sea is a huge Crimean gas field. And of course, a lake that Russia must dominate for security’s sake. Running under it will be the Turkey pipeline and on the surface will come a proliferation of trade and tourists when the war is over.
This is the equivalent of the Gulf of Mexico to the US or the Bohai-W.Yellow Sea for China. No one regards them as first tier except the nations that must dominate their own sphere of influence.

So?
First job of a serious web sayan infiltrating an alternative site or organisation is to establish bonafides as one of the local alternative crowd. Once that is established, the second step is to discredit the real alternative sources opposed to the ZPC. Such as:

In the event NATO conquers Syria, Russia will have Cyprus for a welcoming port. So it is a bit of insurance they can refuel and restock their ships mostly used for Intel (electronic listening).
Russia is getting close to a similar relationship with Egypt, for Alexandria, and will probably have something worked out with Greece if the government doesn’t fall. Piraeus is a Chinese port, so sharing with Russia should be doable.
It is clear Russia intends to be a Mediterranean sea power. They probably have one or two nuclear subs hugging the subterranean depths.
Libya is reaching out (the central government, barely in existence). So there is a play being made by Russia for a military-anti-terror role with Egypt for that part of No. Africa. China will join. They have many billions of dollars in Libya that they want to recapture. First, a war against ISIS must be won in North Africa.
A huge Mediterranean land war could be coming. NATO/AFRICOM + ISIS versus the indigent authorities backed by Russian and China. The Hegemon versus sovereign nations. Totalitarian global power versus independent cooperative nations.
Thus, naval bases will play a large role in the coming months.
Keep a map handy. Yemen is going to be a significant battle, proxy war between Iran and Saudi/US/AQ. Houthis versus AQ+US Special Forces
Everything recycles. 1960’s North and South Yemen. They are talking about that split again.

I had a dear friend who led Operation Hard Surface air attacks. If you read the background above you will see that nothing changes when the economic importance of real estate is the issue. The ideology is what they sell the constituents who are cannon fodder and who pay the tab. It’s always about oil, gas, trade routes and choke points.
Larchmonter445
In the event NATO conquers Syria, Russia will have Cyprus for a welcoming port.
It’s Israel and turkey who are mainly interested in Syria and Lebanon. Any [G]ATO “interest” is that of quisling gofers – and I don’t mean quislings of Turkey. Likely, if Russia doesn’t manage to domesticate Israel, the east Med will be a contest between Israel’s colonies and Russia. Turkey is sort of sitting it out on the fence now, if they don’t back off Syria, we’ll know they surrendered to Israel.
Turkey just got a “gift” from the Kurds. Peace talks from the PKK, ending their decades old insurrection.
Turkey has to worry about Kurds bearing gifts.
Turkey’s place should be with Eurasia. He’s indicated that he might be seeing the light, but he’s got his mind set on punishing Syria. Syria is the protector of Armenians and that story is a bone in the throat of Turkey. (Genocide? What genocide?)
NATO definitely wants a victory in Syria, and for that, Assad is to be vanquished. Air Power. What’s stopping them is Russian Intel, radars and maybe, soon, Iran will move some S300s there. Russia doesn’t want to do it directly. That creates issues with Israel, and Russia wants to keep some sort of balance with Israel. It is hard to know what benefit, but like China, they have a policy of open communication.
Larchmonter445
Turkey has to worry about Kurds bearing gifts.
And the reverse, depending on the Kurds on the receiving end, as well.
Turkey’s place should be with Eurasia. He’s indicated that he might be seeing the light
That’s the problem, who is “he”. Lots of quislings and capitalists (read: opportunistic parasites), none looking to be particularly reliable, yet, for the Eurasian Union.
but he’s got his mind set on punishing Syria
Punish? I don’t think that is the motive at all. I think it is old fashioned capitalist hegemonic, monopolist geostrategy (regional, in this case). The Turks want to dominate the east med energy deposits. Right now, these are mainly in Syrian, Lebanese and Cyprus territorial waters in the northern part of the region, the region that Turkey wants control of. This is also the main factor in Turkish-Israeli competition. Israel wants these resources, also.
This creates a rather complicated picture. There is Turkey, [G]ATO/USA puppet on one hand, but rival of Israel – [G]ATO massa, on another. Turkey is also heavily dependent on Russian trade, and now in the joint energy business with also, Russia, a rival of [G]ATO/USA. My opinion is Turkey is on the fence, there are deep differences among the local factions ruling the country as to what direction Turkey should take. Part wants independence, part wants to remain subservient to the ZPC/NWO. My wild guess of Russian policy is, seeing these internal differences, they are working to carve Turkey off from the ZPC/NWO, while at the same time provide Turkey a substitute for Syria. IE: Turkstream for the East Med energy deposits off Syria/Lebanon so to clean up that zionazi instigated mess.
Syria is the protector of Armenians and that story is a bone in the throat of Turkey. (Genocide? What genocide?)
Russia is the protector of Armenians.
NATO definitely wants a victory in Syria, and for that, Assad is to be vanquished. Air Power
Israeli/ZPC wants that. If [G]ATO actually represented European and USA interests, Syria would be a trading partner, not an enemy.
S-300 is not a game breaker. It’s an old weapon system and a few of them are no big deal. Russia recognizes Israel/zionazi, inc. as the “heart of the hydra”. They are working in a situation where “nazi Germany” (or israel – same thing) has nukes, control of most of the planet and are hell bent on keeping it that way.
The trick is to disarm these fanatics without going to war, or at least keeping any war the sods start to a minimum. This is what Russia is facing. Go after the heart of the hydra, all the arms/heads attack at once. Lop off a head, it just grows back. Each option results in millions dead. Better to do a heart transplant on the beast if at all possible. The main problem, the repulsive beast doesn’t want to sit still for the heart transplant.
To go after the heart of the beast rather than one of its many heads means to shoot down some Qatari planes, as Egypt suggests, no? S’posed to be Qatar who’s supplying Libya now, cuz the Saudis have power-faction troubles at home & even possibly blowback of ISIS on her borders.
Penelope
To go after the heart of the beast rather than one of its many heads means to shoot down some Qatari planes, as Egypt suggests, no?
Not really. I think I would categorize that as trimming a few whiskers off the muzzle of one of the heads. ;)
What I meant by heart was the centre of power or control. I could have metaphorically used brain, just as well, I guess. And what I meant by heart transplant was something like influencing the ZPC/NWO centres of power to change their ways to that which is much more positive and friendly. By influence, instead of war, that is. It’s a long shot it can be accomplished, those who run the ZPC/NWO are pretty much set in their psychopathic ways, but the alternative endless series of wars and civil strife make it the only practical strategy in my mind.
Oh, you mean the REAL bad guys. I think they have to be altogether beaten before they stop coming. World-rule is an obsession w them.
I think Russia wd rather beat ISIS in Libya w the help of Egypt by means of shooting down Qatari supply planes than engaging ISIS coser to home.
Speaking of closer to Russia I think the next hotspot planned may be to take territory from Serbia:
WRESTING VOJVODINA FROM SERBIA
http://m.strategic-culture.org/news/2015/02/15/brussels-next-balkans-ersatz-state-vojvodina.html Excerpts:
“If the Brussels-based European Union and NATO have their way, the Serbian province of Vojvodina will join Kosovo, previously carved by the European Union and NATO from Serbia as an ethnic Albanian state run by the terrorist Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA), as the next ersatz independent state in the Balkans.”
“Already, Vojvodina is being referred to by Soros-financed media and NGOs as the «Hungarian Kosovo,» even though 66 percent of the population of the province is Serbian. With 25 ethnic groups, Vojvodina is one of the most ethnically-diverse regions in Europe. For the NATO war planners and Soros demographic engineers, Vojvodina represents a fertile ground for ethnic conflict and further «Balkanization» of the Balkans.”
How does the Turk annexation of northern Cyprus factor in this (for which they suffered sanctions etc) — especially given the new deal with Turk Stream and the southern Cyprus Greek sector with UK naval bases? Why the need for port facilities in Greek Cyprus? Are there no suitable harbors in the Turk controlled sector?
Why not Turkish port, not Greek?
Turkey is less malleable and less friendly. It has been a stalwart until recently within NATO. With a port, you want reliability. That’s why Crimea, once Kiev bolted from Moscow’s influence, had to come home. The treaty for basing would have been thrown away. The US would have replaced Russia, and the Black Sea fleet would be homeless.
Greece already has relationship with China. So, Cyprus is also home to Russians and Russian wealth is banked there.
With a multi-polar strategy, the more countries you can have friendly relations with, the better.
The idea of ‘dominance’ was crafted by Obama, with the two huge trade pacts he advocates clearly favoring corporations over sovereignty. So long as Putin is deferring to the latter, to national sovereignty within the norms of corporate relationships, his reaching out to countries for agreements of this nature are a far different kettle of fish.
Won’t it be great it Turkey keeps turning away from EU? Get a load of Erdogan’s quote in this:
1/18/15 After Turkey-Russ contracts incl Turkish Stream EU officials received explicit orders from Washington and Brussels to prevent the rapprochement between Turkey and Russia, which stands to directly contradict the imperial interests of the EU. Erdogan pointed out that Turkey will defend itself: “I wonder if those who have kept this country at the EU doorstep for 50 years know what this step means? Elements that threaten our national security will receive the necessary response, even if they are members of the press,” he said. “When taking such a step we don’t care what the EU might say, or if the EU is going to accept us. We don’t care… Please keep your mind to yourself.” – said Turkish President” http://journal-neo.org/2015/01/18/rus-imperskaya-politika-es/
The current Turkish occupation of northern Cyprus is illegal. The legitimate government is the Republic in the south.
So what would be the point in putting it in occupied territory?
hre is another good video: Putin in Russian news
https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=F4P3U1LeIyw&list=PLl454lB46JcJJGY_rCMdwFkGMmaIsarWV
Ann, this video is a great propaganda piece or ad for freedom. Good for explaining to all Europe’s masses what’s at stake. Enjoyable to watch.
The ‘rope’ analogy may also somewhat echo Lenin’s comment about “them” selling the rope to hang themselves with. While the usd$ is attempting to QE itself out of existence, any foreign holder indeed has a rope (China, a silk one) to pay for (dump) on those who have a need for usd$ exchange capacity with the empire — e.g., anyone buying Saudi Regime oil. The Chinese take their usd$ foreign returns and issue domestic Yuan to their state owned (and private) enterprises. Thus their ‘magic pudding’ currency holding is instantly doubled 100% in potential value — it is only for the Yuan to become a global currency of wealth holding (backed by gold and other assets) and they have made a killing. No wonder the DC & Fed are frantically trying to catch up with this new variant of 21st century state-capitalism — strangely, it looks a bit like Chavez’s 21st century socialism. Unfortunately, the US are stuck in olde 20th century 1st gear thinking and revving the engine-of-state to exploding point. The Chevy to the Levy … and it was dry!
Nicely put. It is my hope that greed will overcome revenge for future US governments. ‘If you can’t beat ’em, join ’em’ may well be a package promotion being as hastily packaged in the backrooms of power just the way the Greeks may be printing up drachmas.
The US propaganda machine is usually quick to send its political head guys to the front of the parade once the jig is up. When that happens, we will know we’ve won our way to peace.
Would that be worth losing out on our desire for a just result? Maybe, if it prevents the nuclear alternative. I’d be fine with that because I know deep in my heart that there is a final judgement none can escape. And I think maybe Putin would still accept that also.
Pushback on this thought encouraged!
Juliana, If I understand you correctly, no push back here…
Juliana, you know China offered to participate in building a silk road from Russia to Alaska and into Canada. I don’t think she got an enthusiastic reply from the Empire, who is at the moment not tempted by carrots.
The Chinese take their usd$ foreign returns and issue domestic Yuan to their state owned (and private) enterprises. Thus their ‘magic pudding’ currency holding is instantly doubled 100% in potential value
Anonymous, you lost me. Why wd selling their usd$ receipts for Yuan double their value? Or do you mean something different?
Saker:J.Edgar Hoover opened a top secret FBI file on my first son the year he was born 1960, grandson of Jean Urlic Marie De Kuyper of a 350 year old distiilery partnership from 1675, known all over Netherlands and in 140 countries. Since my father was brought up with Queen Wilhelmina when she was Princess, the King dead of syphilis, his new Queen and mother of Wihelmina, not his child, he unable to have another as too infectious, she a gravid commoner, invited the members of the adel or powerful community, to all feasts for the lonely Princess as well as to protect them as she grew into being Queen. My great grandmother, a widow herself, and her daughter Germaine and son Jean always came.Queen Emma and her daughter were protected, until the Yanks came.( I am trying to find out why Netherlands joined the second war that the US really set up as Holland sat out the first one.) By that time the war queen, deeply loved, deeply respected, went to Britain for safety. My father stayed managing the partner owned distillery, double agent to protect all Jewish in his employ. Half American my brother, I and our American mother were ordered to go America where my grandfather chosen by Roosevelt, was head of the new Detroit First National Bank in order to save America from the depression. He knew J. Edgar Hoover by his first name. Dad gave his house to the German command after they just walked up the dikes and gave orders, like for free Dutch gin, loved his estate. So watching the US remake of WW11 has been riveting to me. I began writing what I saw from my perspective, history, in 2006, having first moved back to Holland to stay in 2005 and Homeland Security had shut down all my US bank accounts so paying rent in Amsterdam was no longer possible.Moved back to sell my US estate to return with the cash. I returned in 2006, I began writing on a new computer only to return voluntarily to the US to check on my two grown sons as what I learned from two alternative e-lists was deeply unsettling, for instance proof sent to me that 9/11 was a government set up. As was Bush11 by the US Supreme Court and Sandra Day O’Connor. Now am trapped in Amsterdam as Netherlands is considered US territory by the US though not yet by most of the country of only 17 million. But after the set up plane crash of the Malaysian 777 Boeing, about half know they are considered cannon fodder by America. Because of my connection here I have learned in exquisite detail how the US took us over after WW11, having carefully stayed in all European countries but the France, the Yanks were thrown out there as too dangerous to stay. Intellectuals across Europe knew they were more dangerous to Europe than Russia. But Eisenhower, my granddad’s golf buddy, was ordered to start the Cold war(for which he was President) because Russia had won WW11 and she was to be further drained by the US to later be removed, happening today.. Dad had warned Wilhelmina not to start the Bilderberg Group or the Americans would take over Europe. Trusting him since childhood, she listened and did not start it after the war. The reason the Americans brought in 4 to 6 years of English learning in all grade schools, high schools, was to take over Holland with ease.. Was a cake walk after Wilhelmina’s daughter, fluent in American English, became Queen. First thing Juliana did was to start the Bilderberg Group, the CIA offered to fund in it’s first years, she delighted, accepted. The CIA never left it and now run it for generations.Since 1954. In order to make sure Netherlands was putty in their hands the US ordered Netherlands to give them Indonesian or the Marshall funds would forever be denied them. Shattered by a war they should never have joined, they gave Indonesia to the US who began gutting with it with CIA organised massacres in 1960s, three main ones, one still ongoing, then sent in the US corporations to own everything forever. Indonesia began fighting back last year. They will again be crushed as the land is impoverished completely but for US business. Indonesia threw out several hundred US trade Agreements that would lock in US ownership for a thousand years, last year. Vltchek “Indonesia Archipelago of Fear”. The massacres slaughtered 500,000 to 3 million. This was tried with Vietnam and Korea using more poisons, even brain chips developed from the thousands of Nazi the US got all secrets from. Therefor they assume erasing Russia and Russian will not be too hard. US has had lots of practice. Are you Saker protecting your self? Your family? My second son was assassinated in 2013 many other members here and in the US. I hope so. I am not a sitting duck because of my name and the royal family know the story. My mother gave the CIA our 800 year of European private history in order to destroy Netherlands by more easily using it and the family, my father removed from almost all archives as if never existed. To be done to me and my remaining son too. All ancient upper classes of Europe are to be removed, names and histories used for empire propaganda and sales. After 9/11 the US went into EU invasion in hight gear. Stripping as much EU law reachable, installing US friendly EU ministers. This is small amount of the detail preparations to invading Russia and disintegrating it. I assume the US will have started a new blog after they discovered you not too long ago…that they may plane t replace yours in time. They are quite busy and quite bankrupt, one big ponzi scheme. So grateful for all your multi-language blog. Am afraid for you. I grew up there, lived all over it. Know it well. take care.Suzanne
Suzanne,
I suppose Netherlands was pressured to enter WWII because US/UK wanted to be sure she would be in debt at the end of the war and therefore ale to be dominated by US.
I hadn’t realized that US stayed in other European countries as they did in Germany. What about Rothschild? What role are they playing?
Supposedly EU was a Bilderberg plan explicitly to conquer Europe by financial means.
Regards,
FDR started Cold War while WW2 still ongoing–proof in USA’s behavior in Italy, Greece, and liaison with USSR prior to Germany’s surrender. Netherlands were invaded and occupied by Germany. Then invaded and occupied by USA and UK. It wasn’t allowed the opportunity to be neutral in WW2. Fascinating personal history of yours; thanks!
Saker: I know the US like the back of my hand and fear for you as I suspect Washington is preparing a blog to take the place of yours in time. What blog can I write on in this Saker world where it will be secure? Thank you for what you do. Suzanne
Suzanne if you look at the very bottom of the page you will find an email address if you want to write to the Saker directly.
Meanwhile I suggest you go to unseen.is and make yourself an email address that can be encrypted, on a server in Iceland, which has the strongest privacy laws in the world (and is where this blog is registered and hosted).
good place to put this theme-related timely info, from jim s., who granted can be a loose cannon sometimes.
i had no idea his site was up 8 years now; only heard of him after fukushima 3/11/11.
he has dire warnings about that fcc trojan horse 3-2 vote last week of a “free/fair” internet & what it really means.
it’s a very good long screed; just a short snip here:
If you are someone who bitches about windows security yet is still naive enough to run any Microsoft product while administering your truth site, you are probably newly hacked and cannot see it because your software was designed to be compatible with their hacks and never warn you of anything nefarious going on in the background. YOU ARE MOST DEFINITELY HACKED whether or not you can see it, and God only knows why they are up your rear with a stethoscope.
http://www.jimstonefreelance.com/
btw, at his site his daily feature is the top of his long main page, which runs on & on. so he has a link in each story to his forum where each topic/story has a separate section, with open comments for registered guests.
Suzanne,
you HAVE to write a book, and soon.
regards.
US is now confirming that Iraq downed a US jet near Tikrit and a coalition Warthog warplane W of Bagdad. The latter by an Iraqi surface to air missile w the pilot ejecting. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-175903/F-15-fighter-jet-lost-Iraq.html#ixzz3TC4otieQ
The original story of Iraq shooting down 2 UK planes and 1 (now perhaps two) US helicopters while they were supplying ISIS is now being reported on many sites, w not all originating from Fars.
http://www.australiannationalreview.com/iraqi-army-downs-uk-planes-carrying-weapons-isil/ Long article w other military and legislative officials claiming frequent airdrops to ISIS by US.
The Daily Mail article on the downing of an F-15 and an A-10 Warthog is to be believed, because it is attributed to Marine Maj Brad Bartelt, US Central Command in Qatar, and they would hardly be admitting to losses if they didn’t happen.
The Fars article is not to be believed (yet) because there is no credible source. I’m NOT saying it isn’t true, but THAT article doesn’t make it true, and GlobalResearch’s republishing of it doesn’t make it true either.
A quick search at GoogleNews hasn’t turned up anything yet.
Do any any of the articles that you have seen add any facts to support the story? Give me facts and I will believe, honest.
S*** up already. You’ve been outed as a western shill. And to make my point. Your simplistic propagandistic view point is ” I believe the US military. They tell the truths. I disbelieve Iran. They lie. All people need to see the world thru this filter ”
Cheap hack go away or change your screen name already. Palloy? As in hoi palloy? You’re getting paid to **** with the masses?
Note from moderation: Well, I don’t know if “Palloy”, as you state, is a “western shill” or not. But his replies seem to be closer to our moderation guidelines than yours.
Please don’t use insulting attacks. I have redacted some parts of this comment
I can’t really take you seriously. My comment was mild by all accounts. But if this is your weak attempt at fair and balanced. Have at it. We can spot these shills from a mile away and will comment accordingly.
That is complete nonsense, palloy, and you know it.
The Fars reporting represents what journalism is supposed to be, IE: reporting on events as they happen with what information that is available. The news of the shootdowns reached Fars and they reported what they found out. The daily mail, on the other hand, represents what journalism is not supposed to be, IE: dispensing the official propaganda. Not reporting the story until the official propaganda was released in order so the daily mail story would be inline with that official propaganda. While the propaganda ministry will release some factual material to remain credible, (though what comes out of the ZPC/NWO quislings lately appears to be 99% BS now), they leave out most important information and waiting for them to confirm something is not independent reporting, but simply being an official echo. Again, Fars reported on the incidents like journalists should, while the daily mail simply repeated the official propaganda and acted like good little goebbelsian sycophantic lapdogs.
As I wrote above, it is obvious you, palloy, are trying to discredit sources of information which are not zionazi sanctioned sources, IE: propaganda. While at the same time, you try to reinforce that propaganda by promoting the zionazi sources and official spokepeople as credible sources.
A little advice: once you’ve been outed, hanging around further, doing the same schtick, only causes people to get annoyed with you, and further increases their skepticism of what you are trying to scam them with. If you want to “influence people and make friends”, I suggest you try out a new scheme under a new nick. And one other thing, if the “england” spammer is working from the same telemarketing facility, don’t act on any advice he/she might offer. ;D
Good answer, Bot Tak. You’re right: It’s the job of the media to report what governmental sources and military officials say. It’s NOT their job report the tremendous volume of lies that come out of Kiev while ignoring what’s being reported in Iran & Iraq. They need to report both as newsworthy. Western, monopolistic journalism fails (again). Thanks for reminding me what journalism is.
Don’t care whether you believe or not Palloy. The Australian Review article quotes a lot of people– a general, a couple senior govt officials, etc. They claimed an aircraft near Bagdad and another near Tikrit, and a week later that’s what US finally admitted to.
Plus there are many witnesses over a long period to US dropping weapons, etc to ISIS. If you want to disbelieve all alternative sources as “propaganda”, you’ll have to do that.

mmiriww???
the item you are quoting was published April 8, 2003.Where did you get it from? if it was from one of those “read more” links in the middle of a different story, just ignore it — they’re put in based on keywords, not on true relevance..
This RECENT story I saw too, in the original FARS version. The fact that it has not shown up in any MSM does not mean it’s untrue. There is a LOT that doesn’t show up in MSM if it doesn’t fit the official story.
The fact that there have been several reports of “accidental” drops to ISIS indicates that it is happening. It’s just a matter of how many “accidents” we’ll accept before we start believing it is not an accident. Especially if it is a fair way off from where they are supposed to be dropping things.
Are AFP news trying to brainwash me?
I have news app on my phone and Ukraine story’s as a favourite. For several months now sometimes twice a week i keep getting this story.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YxwbzYep-lk
And each time it’s just been uploaded that day, this is a revolving app so new story’s never repeat story’s except this one.
Your app doesn’t choose the stories on your phone. It revolves the stories that are fed in on the other end. All such “carousel” software can be set to randomise, so you don’t get the same boring order all the time. They can also be set with “weights” for the items, so some will show up more often.
The video you get repeatedly is by UNHCR. I wonder what MH17 really has to do with human rights?
