The nazis called it “blumenkriege” (war of flowers) when the occupied people throw bouqets of flowers. I don’t think the Iranian people will go this route. Iran is three times bigger than Iraq and has terrain as rough as Afghanistan. Logistics are going to be a problem in such a large country. Of course the ivory tower armchair warrior elites will try to get it done with air force bombing which doesn’t work. You still have to take and hold territory for victory.
I wonder where this idiot got his information from? In trying to bomb Iran the US will not only open a third front but a can of worms which the US will not have the guts to swallow. This is an insult to the Iranians.
Here is some more on Elliott Abrams. As long as fanatical nutjobs like Abrams are taken seriously and are rewarded with high-ranking policy forming positions inside the Pentagon, we can continue to expect the same sort of addled thinking that gave us the Iraq and Afghanistan wars. Dennis Ross and Rahm Emanuel may not be much better than Abrams.
What’s also disturbing here is the indoctrination of the public. Just last week I saw a video clip where Bill O’Reilly claimed that Ahmadinejad wants to “kill as many Jews as possible”and might even be looking to provoke Israel into attacking his country. I haven’t seen this sort of demonisation of a world leader since the beginning of the Iraq War. Even peope who don’t take O’Reilly or Abrams’ comments at face value may begin to assume that Ahmadinejad has at least expressed some desire to kill Jews or think that the Iranian regime is an extremely unpopular one at the very least. It’s all meant to legitimize an attack.

@ ZaL: I don’t think Abrams has any real information that supports his view. It’s pure spin and propaganda. As long as reporters pretend to take the likes of Abrams or Bolton seriously, and as long as these ‘experts’ can render confident sounding pronouncements about Iran, its leadership, and its intentions, most people will accept what they say as being true or as being plausibly close to the actual truth to have some merit. It’s all bullsh!t and Abrams knows it is too.
