The “French team” (who are doing an absolutely incredible job every day on vineyardsaker.fr) have just sent me an English-style limerick, but originally written in French by Henri Suhamy, an Anglicist specialized in Shakespeare, and then re-written, again by him, in English. Here are both versions:
Original French version
Le nouveau président Petro Porochenko
Joue un jeu dangereux en visant le banco.
Le bruit de la guerre en Ukraine
Donne à chacun de la migraine
Et peut faire tomber les murs de Jéricho.
English version:
There’s a new president in the Ukraine
Who from day to day has to rack his brain.
The awkward situation
Causes so much crispation
That the poor fellow suffers from dire strain.
Thanks guys, I sure needed the smile today :-)
Amitiés à tous,
Le Saker
Saker, the French version does not match the English one. My translation would be as follows:
New President Petro Poroshenko
is playing a dangerous game for the bank
the noise of war in the Ukraine
is giving headaches to everyone
and could bring down the walls of Jericho
Of course it no longer rhymes this way, but then you can’t have the chocolate and eat it, can you? ;-)
B.
A limerick should respect a strict rhyme scheme: AABBA.
Here is the difficulty ;-)
“Bakunin said…
Of course it no longer rhymes this way, but then you can’t have the chocolate and eat it, can you? ;-)”
Very cute! B.
Best regards,
Mohamed.
P. Poro (new Pres for the Yank)
Plays a dangerous game for the Bank
War noise in Ukraine
Gives us all a migraine
– and Jericho’s walls sank.
but I really intended to say – who knew there was a word “crispation”?
It exists, and speaks to a muscle contraction, which I immediately think of as “pucker” – and with this I think Team France has nailed Poro’s existential situation pretty accurately.
I´m reading first news from Donetsk. I´m sad. Only Russia can save this people (your own people) but it seems tied economically. Sorry but it´s not my intention to ruin the occurrence. Thanks for all you do from this space.
Nicolas from Argentina
Poroshenko has apparently issued a statement that the “cease-fire” is over. Scroll down a bit.

Ukraine now owns the war. Try as the west will, they can no longer blame it on Russia. Russia will defend and retaliate asymmetrically as long as possible, but when the military intelligence computers return a result of 51%, they will conduct a defensive operation to neutralize Nazi Ukraine.
The longer the conflict goes on, the less of Ukraine will be left to the western rump state. Guerillas will operate behind the lines and the conflict will spread.
If NATO tries to push it later this month, they will not succeed.
The remnants of Ukraine military forces in Novorossia must choose sides this summer or die by winter.
Since the major struggle (despite the physical efforts and sacrifices on the ground :( ) is really, for most westerners used to MSM accounts, perhaps targetting of western MSM shills in the media may be a route to follow? Too many comfy Hardings and Luhns and Walkers picking up easy dollars…

“I often wonder myself to what extent the uprising in the Donbas is a threat to the status quo in Russia itself.”
That third point of Limonov, plus your astute comment, certainly offer food for thought. And might explain more than a little of Putin’s extremely cautious approach: if this is the case — and it certainly would appear to be, in many quarters there — then he absolutely needs to make sure all his ducks are lined up before making the kind of move we all fantasize about. He is contstrained by the oligarchs there; appears to have a decent working relationship with most of the ones that remain, but still remains between a bit of a rock and a hard place in general, to say nothing of this particular situation.
Wow.
Theodore Svedberg,
I think there is probably a difference between “Russians” doing something and “Russia” doing it. I also think Putin is quite aware of that difference…
AGS
What you said. (Wish I’d said it.)
Xinhua News(China) has reported that Putin, Merkel, Hollande and Porky had a long (about 1hr) 4-way conference call regarding situation in Ukaraine. US not present. “The four leaders vowed to set “an effective mechanism” to reinforce border controls, it said in a communique, adding that they also agreed to work on the release of more hostages and prisoners and the organization of substantial tripartite negotiations.”
We’ll see.
But seems that the 2 Euros know who the fly in the ointment is. Whether they can or will work out something remains to be seen. Already the Euros are trying to resist further sanctions (looking ahead to winter).
I’m sure F— EU Nuland wil try her best to screw it up further and she may well succeed.
Note also that Russia has delivered the 1st bunch of SU 25’s (pretty obsolete jets – but they can still shoot and carry bombs) to Iraq while the US has done nothing so far. This is symbolic gesture, but another outmaneuvering by Putin. I think he’s too smart to get involved in an invasion of Uke if at all possible.
— Great work, Saker, from an avid reader in the tropics.
@Anonymous:SU 25’s (pretty obsolete jets – but they can still shoot and carry bombs)
Far from it. Even the original version of the SU-25 is an extremely effective close air support aircraft, make no mistake here, and it is ideally adapted to the kind of missions it would be assigned to in Iraq. I also heard that SU-24s were part of the deal. These are not CAS aircraft like the SU-25s, but bombers who can carry a lot of heavy ordinance. Really, even those these aircraft are old, they are still very, very good (just like the old but still formidable US A-10)
My 2cts.

okay, who’s got the next line, French or English!
Or German, or Russian, or Arabic, or Serbian, or…
“It exists, and speaks to a muscle contraction, which I immediately think of as “pucker” – and with this I think Team France has nailed Poro’s existential situation pretty accurately.”
That’s funny :) and so is “nailed”!
S-election winner, Porky-mafioso
Banderastani pufferfish bozo
Feels like Obama in his White House
Ordering mayhems and holocausts;
Ignorant sheeple on Maidan Square
Baaying in night – what a nightmare!
Poor, greedy bastards, ready to kill
For a few hryvnias – that is their thrill!
But wait, you’ve done it in World War Two
And what those murders improved for you?
By killing neighbors, Poles, Russians, Jews,
Women and children – curse is on you!
You lived like robbers, so you were robbed;
For “KARMA SUCKS!” says your Father God!
I see my message didn’t make it because I was very critical towards Putin (because no matter how much praise he gets, I’m losing confidence in him day by day).
It’s fine, but just be prepared for the UNEXEPEDED (like Russia being part of the NWO and only playing now the usual HEGELIAN role of FAKE opposition).
SU-25 is old design but it is very reliable. It is a Kalashnikov in world of war planes.
Andrew,
