I get all sorts of stuff in my inbox, sometimes nice comments, and some hate mail, but not nearly as much as I thought I would get when I started this blog. Sometimes, rarely, I get a real “gem” which makes me happy for a long, long while. Yesterday I got such a gem: an email announcing the new issue of something called Think-Israel. I took a look at the contents of the new issue and I immediately understood: this was *awesome* stuff! Here was a true cornucopia of paranoid, racist, bellicose rabid Zionist propaganda. It even included a (very well-written) eulogy of sorts for rabbi Meir Kahane (highly recommended!) and an attack on the memory of Rachel Corrie (“terrorist-loving anarchist“). Here is a full list of the rest of it:

Interesting, no?
I think that for any student, observer or analyst of the Middle-East Think-Israel articles are a must read as they provide a priceless insight into the minds of the leaders of the Israel Lobby in the USA and their counterparts in the rest of the world, including Israel itself.
Those of us who care for the Middle-East and who oppose racist, colonial and imperial wars should “join forces” with the folks at Think-Israel and spread their message as much as possible, including among the Diaspora Jews who all too often us kidding themselves about the nature of the endless conflicts involving Israel. It is great time for the general public to realize that, with the notable exception of the Wahabis, the real religious extremists, the real racist bigots, the real warmongering Fascist fanatics are *not* on the Arab or Muslim side and that Israel stands for anything *but* real democracy.
So my friends, please spread the word and help the folks at Think-Israel to “get the message out there”. Let us all, goyim and self-hating Jews, extend a helping hand to these crackpots and show them how much we appreciate their honest, direct and oh so much revealing endeavors!
The Saker
You know, the “Britain’s Treachery, France’s Revenge” by Meir Zamir is very, very interesting…
Fuck you anti-semite Nazi.
@american goy: oh yes, a lot of that stuff is very interesting. I really like the Kahane eulogy, I am not kidding, not because I agree with Kahane’s views, but because if I did share his views, I would myself have written something very similar, if maybe not in substance, but in tone, in the choice of arguments.
@anonymous: since I am not sure whether your characterization is aimed at “American goy” or at me, I will assume that it is at me (I am sure “American goy” will forgive me.
Well, what can I answer to that? I am neither a Nazi nor an Anti-Semite, and I am not sure who you think should “fuck me”, but since I am happily married I have to tell you that this could only apply to my wife.
I will make sure that I pass her the message ;-))
Most Jews and Isrealis are good people who want to live in peace and brotherhood with their Arab and muslim brothers. Most Jews and Israelis love their Arab and Muslim brothers.
Please do not imply that bigotry is widespread among Israelis.
Isreal is a good country with good values that has always not lived up to its highest aspirations, values and expectations of itself.
Reach out to Israel’s highest ideals and inspire Israel to live up to its own values and goodness.
Have faith in Israelis. They will handle their own extremists as only they can.
By the way, the Takfiris you mention are a far larger threat than every other extremist movement in the world put together. They are the ones who tore Lebanon apart in the 1970s; starting a civil war that has not yet fully ended.
They oppressed the Shia in Lebanon for centuries. And the confusion they wrought allowed terrorist groups to operate within Lebanon, and attack Israel from Lebanon—which the Lebanese would never have allowed but for their civil war.
The Israelis intervened on behalf of Amal and the Shia (and perhaps some Christians and Druze) against the Takfiri/Salafi/Wahabbi and PLO. Later the conflict morphed into something else. But that was later.
Israel similarly was compelled to fight for its national survival in the 6 day war of 1967. The segregated settlements afterwards were wrong, but that does not justify Takfiri/Salafi/Wahabbi extremists who want to destroy Israel.
Israel for all its many mistakes and shortcomings is not the devil. Most Israelis want to do right by themselves and the Palestinians. Their hearts are broken by the suffering of the Palestinian peoples.
The world must come together to find a way to help both Palestinians and Israelis succeed beyond their wildest dreams.
I am going to say something that will hurt a lot of feelings here. Among the large majority of non-muslims in the world, there is a stunning admiration for Israel and its amazing achievements—even among the many who are critical of Israeli policy towards the Palestinians. Many parents dream of having a child like Israel. Once, South Vietnamese President Ky vocalized his admiration for Israel in the 1960s. The fact is most of the world agreed with him.
Just look at the number of start-ups, publicly traded companies, universities, scientists, leaders in art and culture, in Israel and tell me that you are not wowed. David Perlutter’s team that invented so many of Intel’s best chips (and saved Intel) worked from Israel. This is true for company after company, industry after industry. The world is stunned and awed by Israel (however much they might disagree with Israel.)
I had a Pakistani friend in college who use to say that he hated Israel, and would gladly give up an arm to destroy Israel, but man did he admire Israel. Israel was amazing. He hoped that muslim countries would become more like Israel.
You know, that Indira Gandhi in 1971 demanded that the Indian army launch an “Israeli type” operation to liberate Pakistan. The overwhelming admiration for Israel transcends boundaries, countries, and cultures.
They were outnumbered 40 to 1 in 1948, and in biblical fashion, they won! The world shook and still shakes in amazement. It is true that the USSR and its satellites, including the then Czechoslovakia, assisted Israel. But still. I can think of no military engagement in recent world history that has so caught the imagination of and admiration of people around the world.
None of this is to defend segregated settlements. But it is important to understand the way the world sees Israel.
Well VS, that’s what you get for posting neoNazi propaganda from “Think-Israel”. ;-)
“Many parents dream of having a child like Israel.”
Can we all agree that this is Anand’s most hilariously idiotic quote thus far?
Irish eyes,
Israel was a very poor country in 1948, surrounded by enemies that wanted to eliminate her. Against overwhelming odds, Israel survived as a country. Israel wasn’t ethnically cleansed and driven into the sea. That any Israelis are still alive is a miracle.
Israel spent an enormous percentage of its GDP on its military, and still managed to develop economically into the envy of the world.
Around the world, when people think of economic miracles, they think of Israel, the Asian tigers, Europe’s asian tiger Ireland, and Latin America’s asian Tiger Chile.
Now maybe coming from Ireland, Israel’s economic miracle may not seem quite as impressive, but you didn’t have to spend more than 10% of GDP on defense for many decades, and constantly maneuver between a sea of enemies for national survival.
Ireland has always been protected from all her enemies by her neighbors (post WW2 by NATO.) This gave Ireland a huge leg up. But even then, hats off to the Irish. What the Irish have achieved is amazing.
Irish eyes, some of your views have always amazed me. No one has benefited more from globalization and free markets than Ireland. There is no better example of their success than Ireland.
Most countries around the world dream of becoming more like Ireland. Why don’t you want this too?
Ireland is the ultimate example of empire, both an important power center within a large global empire, and a fully integrated part of it. Hasn’t empire been good for Ireland?
To be sure, I haven’t a clue what people mean when they use the word empire. I think they mean free market globalization,
BTW, I love Israelis. Guilty as charged. I also love Palestinians. You cannot love one without loving the other. One cannot succeed until the other does. You cannot be a friend of one without being a friend of the other. Both are intertwined and interdependent. The fate of both are tied to the other. This is common sense. I want both of them to win.
Long Live Isreal, Long Live Palestine. May they both smash all their enemies, especially Takfiri.
@Irish Eyes: Can we all agree that this is Anand’s most hilariously idiotic quote thus far?
I think what he meant is that his parents want their kids to be mass murdering racists, no?
Just kiddin’of course!
Anand is, I sincerely believe, a very kind person who would probably never hurt anyone intentionally. He also happens to be absolutely and totally ignorant of what is going on in the Middle-East and he naively trust the stuff that is fed to him by imperial media outlets or the armed forces. Combing this with a irresistible urge to be “a real American” and to be accepted as such by real Americans and you get the kind of bizarre stuff Anand posts regularly.
The real tragedy is that Anand has traded his 12’000+ year old tradition (arguably the single oldest human civilization on earth) for the red-white-n-blue McPatriotism of the empire. I am not sure about what his parents want, but I am sure that his ancestors would be horrified if they saw how an “eagle is trying to become a chicken” to use an expression I like.
I will keep hoping that one day Anand will go back to where he belongs. I don’t mean India as a geographical place, but I mean a wise and noble culture and worldview which is as remote from his current ideology as the clouds in the skies are from a cesspool.
“still managed to develop economically into the envy of the world.”
Yup – the ‘envy of the world’ that still happens to be the biggest charity case in history. Tell me, Mr. Friendman, if Israel is such a stunning economic success, whjy on earth is it the biggest recipient of US taxpayers’ cash? Oh wait, I asked you that question before, didn’t I?
“Hasn’t empire been good for Ireland?”
Umm……. no. Dont’ know much about Ireland, do you Thomas? Then again, you don’t know the first thing about the Middle East, yet you ‘write’ incessantly about it.
Relative to Israel’s GDP, US (and German) aid isn’t as much as you might suggest.
As I have said before, it is in Israel’s national interest to faze out US (and German) aid to their country.
Please note that Israel has to spend an enormous percentage of GDP on defense (more implied through the draft) for national survival.
Ireland’s economy has boomed since the mid 1980s. I would gladly e-mail you a data set about it.
Ireland has been a huge beneficiary of globalization and free markets.
Does empire mean globalization?
What has Israel ever done to Ireland. Why are you so against Israel?
Vineyard, I know that Israel is an ally of the Turks and that many Eastern Orthodox South East Europeans strongly dislike Israel because of their alliance with Turkey.
But, please, this is getting ridiculous.
I have met many anti-American people in India. And when I ask them what should India do, one of the most common answers is be more like Israel (and for India to become better friends with Israel.)
Most anti-American people in India tend to be pro-Israel. And that is probably true in most countries around the world.
Of course most of these people aren’t very familiar with Palestine and don’t care one way or the other. And they certainly do not endorse settlements.
The many Israeli people I have met are good people. Why do you dislike Israelis so much?
Remember the friendship between Serbia and Israel? Israel remains one of Serbia’s closest allies in the world.
Russia remains one of Israel’s close allies. (As does India where support for India’s friendship with Israel cuts across partisan lines.)
The only way Palestine and Palestinians can win is if Israelis win. Just as the only way Israelis win is if Palestinians win.
This is one reason it is so important for Israel that Palestinians become more prosperous and successful.
Personally I am sick of Israelis and Palestinians fighting with each other and blaming each other. They should both knock it off and make up already.
I am also sick of Israelis and their sunni arab neighbors insisting that America solve their problems with each other. Why can’t they solve their own problems? Why is it America’s responsibility to solve Palestine?
Rabindranath Tagore use to say follow your own path. As you can tell, my ideas and policy perspectives are my own. They do not follow any orthodoxy or public opinion.
Why anyone who cares about poor people abroad would support sanctions on (block imports from) developing countries escapes me. This is far more imperialistic and far more condemnable than everything else put together.
Much of the anti-business and anti-corporate sentiment inside America is code for anti-foreign sentiment. Only a 5 year old doesn’t know that a majority of American headquartered companies are owned by foreigners. Or that a majority of the customers, suppliers, employees, and stakeholders for American headquartered companies are foreigners.
I am stunned that so much of the American left and right have been overtaken by anti-foreign bigotry. Of course they hide it behind words like anti-business, anti-corporate, anti-outsourcing, securing our borders, and other similar crap. But don’t insult my intelligence. Much of this is a proxy for anti-foreign sentiment. I wasn’t born yesterday.
Irish eyes, do you want to test my knowledge of the Islamic faith, sunni and shia jurisprudence, the Koran, Hadith, or the stories of Islamic prophets? Or perhaps Arab history? I am no expert in Arabic linguistic. But I can introduce you to an Iraqi linguistic scholar (and friend) who is:
http://www.huruqgal.blogspot.com/
You might want to check him out. I think you will agree with him on Turks.
Why do you automatically assume that your knowledge of the middle east is superior to that of others? Why isn’t it alright for someone to love both Israelis and Palestinians, and root for both of them to succeed?
I have tried to explain this to you before, the world is not zero sum. 1 + 1 = 3 in the real world that we all live in.
America, Israel, UK, Europeans, Kosovo, Albania, Ethiopia, Columbia, the corporations, businesses, and all the rest (Takfiri excluded of course ;-) ) are not your enemies. They actually want you to succeed because your success benefits them.
Irish eyes, have you ever considered that when you insult Israel, you are implicitly insulting Israel’s allies. Why do you think that Turkey, Russia, India, Japan, Germany (and more quietly Malaysia) are friends with Israel? What do they see in Israel that you don’t?
Israel is not Ireland’s enemy. Israel wants good relations with Ireland. Why are you against Israel so much? Criticize Israeli policies yes. But you go over the reservation.
Israel has been sending their SOF to train and do join exercises with the Indian army in Kashmir for a while. That is a good thing, don’t you agree?
Most Indians are happy that Israeli SOF are on Indian soil. Is there anything wrong with that?
Indira Gandhi created RAW in 1968 and one of her first directives to RAW was to form an intelligence relationship with Israel.
The world has benefited greatly from that relationship.
Irish eyes, do you disagree? If so why? What alternative is there?
