There is great competition for African minerals, many of which are strategic metals and high value commodities.
The US and the EU colonizers of past centuries now have to deal with China and Russia on the continent.
Again, Putin ( i.e. New Russia ) is continuing to build foundations of the new
and more just international relations . Gradually -one step at the time.

Russia is just following in the footsteps of China, Vietnam, India and Japan who have all hosted their own Africa Summits. Interesting, although I doubt Russia has much to offer African nations economically. However, Russia has lots to offer in terms of military, diplomatic and technological support. I know that Nigeria (my country) will be grateful if they can get better weapons to fight Boko Haram terrorists and African nations have in the past have benefited from Russian veto on US perfidy at the UN Security Council
