OT but not really, its all a part of the same crisis:

“To Banderites and Ukrainian Nazis from someone with Galician surname Yushchuk”

A few words from me personally. From time to time the Ukrainian Nazis tell me what I am a bastard and a traitor because, having a Galician surname Yushchuk, I share pro-Russian views. They say that I would have been condemned by my Ukrainian ancestors.

I will answer the Bandera trash and Ukrainian Nazis once but in every detail.

    1. What is happening now in Ukraine is not an ethnic conflict. That’s why the National Guard Ivanov could well shoot at the indigenous resident of Lugansk and militiaman Ivanenko.

It is a geopolitical conflict, in which, in particular, there is a local fight between the Russians, even if a part of the Russians have been convinced that they are the Aryans and the descendants of the aliens from Alpha Centauri, not Mongol-Katsaps.

    2. I remember the stories told by those who had seen the life in Ukraine before the revolution, during the collectivisation, during the occupation and after the war. So do not tell me tales about the freedom-loving Ukres. They enjoyed banditry when there was such an opportunity and pretty well laboured for the Poles and the Germans when there was not.

    3. My great-grandfather was a farmer and he was shot to death by the then National Guards while he was working in the field. Those bastards were just riding past. They were drunk and bored. So, do not tell me tales about the good Ukrainian National Guards.

    4. My grandfather, a senior officer of the Soviet army, was in the hit list of a local Ukrainian gang because his unit was deployed on the border with Poland and he was an officer (of a medical unit, not a search group, at that). The Soviet special services had found them before they could shoot my grandfather, also a native Ukrainian, by the way.

Guess who I ultimately believe heroes and who I consider enemies with this set of input.

    5. Now a few words about today’s Ukraine.

If the Ukrainian Nazis are such stupid freaks that they are ready, for their own sense of freedom (probably freedom to shoot at farmers in the field), to drive the Ukrainians back to the farms so that the latter go for salt in wagons driven by oxen, I take the Ukrainian Nazis for dangerous creatures that are to be isolated from society. Because the Ukrainians deserve a much better fate than the degradation.

The fact that the Ukrainian Nazis believe that they are leading the people to prosperity, changes nothing. The economic debilism of the Ukres is not a mitigating but rather aggravating circumstance. The Taliban also believe that they are leading the people of Afghanistan to prosperity.

    6. I am sure that today a people can prosper only being a part of a major union and working hard. Now there are three unions potentially available for Ukraine: the EU, the Eurasian Economic Community (to put it simply, “together with Russia”) and “together the United States”.

America needs Ukraine only as cannon fodder against Russia.

Europe does not but it is interested in deindustrialisation of Ukraine – so, in its degradation. This stems from the bases of the competition and the cost of reformation of the Ukrainian industry to fit into the European technical regulations.

Russia, on the other hand, is the only global player that needs Ukraine as an equal and needs its development (in its own interests, of course, but it is actually good for Ukraine).

    7. I saw that in the USSR, even in such a structure as the KGB, the Russians, Ukrainians and Belarusians were, without any exaggerations, on an equal footing. A close relative of mine with the surname Yushchuk was one of the leaders of the Soviet (and later Russian) Foreign Intelligence. Given that in his USSR passport, in the column “nationality” there was written “Ukrainian”.

Even in my kindergarten at all the holidays the Ukrainian national costume was on a par with the costumes of the other peoples of the USSR. There were neither “Khokhols” nor “Katsaps’. Today as well, I have never perceived the negative attitude due to my Ukrainian surname.

That’s why I consider the concept of the Russian world as progressive for the people of Ukraine, whereas the Bandera idea is a regressive one, besides its being a Nazi idea.

That’s why, Misters Banderites, I would never betray you. it is friends that can be betrayed. You are my enemies. I will work for your defeat consistently and firmly, to the best of my ability. I will do it in the interests of both the Russian and Ukrainian peoples. I mean the real Ukrainian people, not that made up by you.

The ethnic Ukrainians who were the generals of the Soviet Army are heroes and true Ukrainians for me. Bandits from Ukrainian nationalists are the Nazis and criminals.

    Period.

I was amazed by Doctorows header:

“Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov gave a remarkable press conference that was entirely ignored by western media: For Russia, there will be no more ‘business as usual’ with the European Union or the United States. A new stage of history is dawning which can develop only on the basis of equal rights and all other principles of international law.”

So I did the horoscope. The picture did amaze me even more and after that listening into Doc.’s essay once more I understood that a kind of “Munich 2007” was in the offer, blunt and bold. The answer to the Japanese Journalist was: plain: to us truth and identity rules.

    My astrological two cents:

    Re Europe

A key point hammered over and over again by Foreign Minister Lavrov during this conference is his consistent attempts to promote free trade between everyone He promotes the avoidance of hostilities and a rational peaceful international system between equals under a just international law. Nowhere does he seek to promote revenge against historical enemies.

For example, despite the horrors of what occurred between the Soviet Union and Nazi Germany during and after WW2, he seeks political co-operation with the Germans and remains a supporter of trade between the two countries and the individuals who reside within both. He seeks cultural, economic, informational and personal ties between them. He nowhere launches into bitter soliloquies about who did what to whom in the historical past (as so many mindlessly do). He is superior to those who seek blood-letting due to historical feuds. He sets a better example than that.

Cynics might argue that we already have a world where equals get treated the same. Countries with balance in industry, technology, weapons, money, and population are equal. A country with no industry and no technology gets left behind and is a downshifter, to use Gref’s phrase about Russia. In other words, it is a bit utopian to ask for a world where Greece is equal to Germany or Georgia is equal to Russia. For that matter, has Russia treated the Ukraine as an equal over the last 24 years? Russia practically demanded use of the Crimea and that the Ukraine not join NATO. Where is the equality here? Can the Ukraine demand that Russia not do something? Turkey can certainly make the case that Syria is in Turkey’s sphere of influence, just as the Ukraine is for Russia.

And one can make a good case that the logic behind the creation of the EU was to let Germany and France gain power to have a dominant position over countries like Greece, Bulgaria, or Portugal. It doesn’t seem that Moscow was against the idea of the EU till Schroeder, Chirac, and Berlusconi were gone.

Still, Lavrov is quite impressive. Now, if Russia could just get rid of half of her aristocracy … then Russia could lead by example, and not just impressive speakers, such as Lavrov.

      • Siotu on February 01, 2016  ·  at 6:31 pm EST/EDT

        Hello Paul 2

You are right that countries are not equal in the sense of wealth, development, culture and so on. That does not mean that one should initiate invasion, destruction, death and mayhem of the other.

To clarify, I referred to a “rational peaceful international system between equals under a just international law”. This means that people trade freely across borders (which are, after all, arbitrary constructs made up by people in the first place). It means that differences are settled by discussion, negotiation, agreement and arbitration, not by initiating coercion, not by violence and not by starting wars. There is an idea, “equal before the law”. My understanding of what Lavrov (and Putin) seek is a multipolar international situation operating in this manner. That is, one of equality under a just international law. Definitely worth working towards, surely?

Anyway, my point was that Foreign Minister Lavarov’s is a better approach to take then one of constantly revisiting the historical past, obsessing on its wrongs and evils.

One clarification could you do for me. Who are Russian aristocracy? I am not certain I understand which group you are referring to.

What a tour de force. I watched and listened to all 3+ hours, and was never bored. Lavrov is a Mozart of statesmanship. He and Putin are creating a symphony of language in a new epic narrative using an innernet world web.

Ironically, Mozart needed a Solieri for a real good movie; like Russia needs the US to show the difference between this and that.

It’s a Shakespearean drama sprinkled with salt and humor. But with real characters with a real world standing on the gallows hoping for a reprieve.

Our little vineyard has a part to play, maybe like the Little Engine That Could. Who knows? Maybe it really is us that can “Stop the Empire’s War on Russia.” Much can be done with the right information and the might of love, as radiated by the vineyard logo itself.

    • Internal Exile USA on February 01, 2016  ·  at 9:40 pm EST/EDT

A tour de force for sure, especially for us in the States because the Russian presentation is so full of intellectual activity, reason, and literacy. Did you see the ridiculous 5+ hour “pregame” presentation before the SOTU address this year? Everything drenched in funereal blue; a sad hip-hop act with audio coming out of a computer and singers out of tune. An aesthete’s disaster. I couldn’t stand listening to the Lord of the Teleprompter, I just found the circus around it very late-imperial and worthy of note. What a shoddy stage, what a sad lack of decorum, in comparison the Russian media may lack the loud, cry-in-one’s-beer melodrama but they are competent at their jobs!

      SOTU tackiness (try 5:08:03):
      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WweX6_cAV5Q
Things get weird around the five hour mark. I’d never seen a SOTU “pregame” like this before, had you? Apparently the City on Hill has never been better. Lots of empty bluescreen dead air and a celebrity MC to boot. The MC discusses the sheer depth of Joe Biden’s mutterings. The audience is something else. This is neoliberal DC on booze and prozac! “Eight years o’ change, baybeeee!”

I’ve heard that Salieri was Mozart’s rival but not completely the obsessed maniac portrayed in that film. (?) The musical differences between the two countries are more radical than that.

        Hi, Anonymous

        This is excellent. What site?
        Thanks

        • Anonymous on February 01, 2016  ·  at 4:20 pm EST/EDT

Scott och JJ: I and others have posted Vineyard links about Ukraine for several months. Last spring the site had thousands of readers a day (now it is hundreds). The bad thing is the site is infested, not moderated as excellently as here, and I have received death threats. For that reason, for not to allow anyone to connect my posts here with my posts in Europe, I prefer not to name the site. I apologize for that, but as Saker was anonymous in the beginning I wish to be anonymous, too.

I suspect the worst of the bunch, the most hateful, are radical Ukrainians in exile. An indication is that some rare information from the site was posted on Ukrainian social medias. Russianspeakers and people of Russian descent, two different groups, are also active sometimes and they are balansed. Another very strange group is active. They say Ukraine is in better shape than Russia and that Poroshenko is leading the country into the Golden Age, something most Ukrainians don’t believe. I guess they work for Kiev or NATO. We also have good people who want to know more about Ukraine. Many worry about the future of Europe.

I have seen European journalists pick up rare information from the site and write articles with a new twist and a new tone. Some unique and critical information only to be found on the site shows up on blogs in the US.

We have almost invisible information chains on the net. You are not alone, never underestimate what you do. For example, when a Saker link was posted, some more Europeans from different countries came to the Vineyard and perhaps they informed others. Some of them never post, but I know they are here. When you provide a link to Anna News, rusvesna etc. these sites get new readers, too. You inform lots of ignorant Europeans, who otherwise depend on the MSM. You are part of a team and sometimes you are the strongest parts of the chain.

“The indigenous peoples of Alaska and Hawaii appealed to the international community through the United Nations with a request to ensure their right to self-determination. The letter was circulated in Geneva.

In the address, the representatives of the peoples of Alaska and Hawaii urged UN members to raise the issue on May 11th in the framework of the consideration of the UN Council on Human Rights of the periodic review of the human rights and freedoms in the United States, according to TASS.

The appeal emphasizes that the sale of Russian Alaska to the United States in 1867 did “not mean the transfer of sovereignty over Alaska to the United States” and the “US invasion of Hawaii in 1893 was a violation of bilateral treaties and international law.”

“The territory of Alaska and Hawaii in 1959 were absorbed by the United States through deception and deliberate breaches of the mandate and UN principles, and the process of self-determination”, – stated the document.

Residents of the two U.S. States urged the UN “to fix the mistake” and use peaceful means to achieve a referendum for the self-determination of Alaska and Hawaii. For a more effective action in this direction, even set up a joint working group – “Alliance of Alaska-Hawaii for self-determination.”

“They’re taking our land and are mining mineral resources in huge quantities, causing damage to the environment. We believe that the Russians can help us. The year 2017 will mark 150 years since the sale of Alaska by Russia to the USA. If we could, working with the Russians, provide the truth about what really happened in history and to reject the distorted concepts about Alaska and our people, I think it would be a good way to rectify the situation,” – said the representative of Alaska in the working group “Alliance Alaska-Hawaii for self-determination” Ronald Barnes to the meeting in the Swiss press club in Geneva.

“Our culture is suppressed. However, US actions are directed not only against our culture but also of world peace, because Hawaii hosts the military base of Pearl Harbor. During military exercises they pollute our land and water. From this people get sick. This is an abuse of our land and people. We don’t want to be a part of the war machine”, – said the representative of Hawaii Leon Siu.

In an interview with TASS, Barnes stressed that Alaska and Russia have a lot of common in history, culture and religion. “I am Orthodox”, he said in Russian. Continuing in English, he said that many of his relatives have Russian names and Russian words are used, for example, “handkerchief” and “oil”. “We believe that the Russians could help us, said Barnes. “The year 2017 will mark 150 years since the sale of Alaska by Russia to the USA. If we could, working with the Russians, provide the truth about what really happened in history and reject the distorted concepts about Alaska and our people, I think it would be a good way to fix the situation.” According to Barnes, Alaska could become “a neutral state lying between Russia and the West”.

Lavrov, you may have to plan some foreign flights…………..

      JJ

I knew that Hawaiians sought self-determination and I am familiar with the history relating to what occurred but I did not realise matters had developed to this point. I certainly was unaware of what you report about Alaska. Is there any more information you have about these two? I am especially intrigued about the sovereignty of Alaska. If it was sold by Russia to USA what does that mean for who has sovereignty? Can you elaborate on this aspect?

      Thank you
