The US/EU desperately trying to make a self goal? Making it virtually impossible for western business to do business with Russia, all trade will stop. To spell out the consequences, the US northwest will experience significant oil shortages as Russia stops shipping crude. A total failure of the US to build oil supply pipelines to the US NW from their oil producing regions for decades now. (The current fleet of crude super tankers are too big to pass through the Panama Canal.) Further, the US petrochemical industry will find itself without the heavier crude feedstock it needs to produce resins, plastics and other chemicals requiring heavier crude oils such as Russia’s Ural’s Blend (or heavy crude from Venezuela). Boeing will be short both Titanium stock and machined titanium parts for its airliners, Launch Alliance is still a long way (after some 6 years) from fielding a tested replacement for the RD-180 engine that powers the first stage of America’s workhorse launch vehicle, the Atlas V. And Russia also supplies much of the enriched Uranium used in US Nuclear Power Plants. Russia also exports significant amounts of Aluminum, steel, and rare earths to the US. This will also be the death knoll for the International Space Station as Russia shifts all attention to cooperation with China.
The EU will need to find replacements for 40% of its Natural Gas imports and about as much again for crude oil imports. If Russia’s food import counter sanctions were bad, fully ending trade with Russia will make that a holiday. Oh, and if Russians for all practical purposes cannot travel to the EU, why should EU airlines be allowed to overfly Russia to the far east? Just the mention of that in 2014 caused Lufthansa stock to drop 10%. Now with covid, much of the business of European airlines holding up the bottom line are cargo flights to/from the far east.

The U.S. Congress removed sanctions against Nord Stream 2, Russian sovereign debt, and 35 Russian individuals from the draft defense budget. The announcement came right after the Biden-Putin call.
SehSha won’t back down because she can’t. Russian won’t ‘back down’ because there’s nothing to ‘back down’ from. On the other hand, SehSha is painting herself in to a corner where she will either have to attack or surrender. Doubt she will surrender and Mother knows this fact. Told my wife this morning we are a gnat’s eyelash from war and this ‘conference’ did not change that opinion one iota.
